You are Howard Phillips, the son of the only gravedigger in the shoddy town of Woodglenn, and a gravedigger yourself. While digging a grave for Old Man Hendrickson, the local crotchety old man who'd recently died, you found a peculiar mask buried six feet underground. You decided not to tell your father or anyone else about it, but while you were out in the woods gathering flowers for a funeral, a strange man approached you and insisted the mask belonged to him. You refused, seeing as how you spent a whole day digging it up, but the mask is a bit.. strange. You've had a nasty dream about it, and it seems to whisper into the back of your head occasionally. You were attacked by three poes, sinister ghostly beings, and you used the vast magical power the mask seems to contain to eliminate two of them. Now you're facing down the third, much larger poe, with the full arsenal of the mask's magical power at your disposal. But you feel your control beginning to fade. You cannot hold back the corrupting, dark impulses it seems to impart to you for much longer.

You have two stat points to distribute however you'd like.

You gain a new ability:
[]Majora's Avatar: You gain access to some of the mask's more rudimentary powers without having to wear it, which means you don't have to worry so much about being dominated by it. However, it may reduce your resistance in such an event..
[]Iron Will: Once per thread, you can reroll a die to decide whether or not you fail a will-save.

Power is how physically tough you are, and handles things like running long distances, fighting physically and taking damage. Will is how much willpower you've got, and handles things like fighting the mask's corrupting influence, performing magical feats, and understanding certain things. Charisma handles how well you're received by people, how diplomatic you are, and things of that nature.

You live in the land of Termina, in the town of Woodglenn, marked on the map with an arrow(I'll get a better map. Someday.). The only nearby settlement is the Deku Palace. To note, the map is not anywhere near to scale. Termina here is vastly larger than it was represented in-game.

All you have to do is pull the trigger. You fix the Big Poe with a gaze, the eyes on the mask begin glowing brightly. You begin tilting your head back and forth, and a hideous crackling sound issues from your neck. The Poe cackles at first, but is soundly cut off. "Eeh hee hee! What are you trying to do?! The Poe stiffens, as black and purple energy seems to seep out of your mask and into the surrounding area. Your neck continues crackling, and you hear the mask whispering to the Poe, yet it sounds.. wrong.

The Poe howls in anguish, clawing at it's face and trying to stop the insane, cackling voice reverberating through it's head. [x]Hex the Poe with Mayhem while it's vulnerable. Teach it to mess with you.

You decide to use what remains of your power over the mask to teach this Poe you mean business. Killing it(re-killing it) would be too easy, and you're all too eager to flex your newfound powers, anyway. This could be the answer to all of your problems. You've always been 'that weird kid who digs graves'. You have one or two friends, sure, but nobody really RESPECTS you. Maybe, if you were to.. No. You shake your head. You don't have long. You gather your willpower and unleash a torrent of magic at the hapless Poe. You can hear the mask giggling inside your head; apparently this is exactly what it wanted to do, as well. There's a crackling pressure in the air, almost like lightning just struck, and the Poe suddenly screeches louder. Dark tendrils of purple magic wrap over it's entire body, stabbing into it and pulsating. The Poe begins.. changing. It shrinks and stretches and is compressed terribly. "WH.. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?! STOP! NO! I'M SORRY, I'LL.." The Poe's pleas for mercy get quieter and quieter until you can barely hear them, the thing totally eclipsed by your magic. Then, it stops as quickly as it began, and in the Poe's place sits a tiny little fairy, glowing dully. It squeaks at you. "What have you doone to me?! I'm ruined! Ruined! I can't live in this.. degrading form!" You cackle madly until your sides are about to split, and suddenly realize you've been floating in the air for the past ten minutes. You flail around, fall on your ass, and quickly rip the mask off as you feel it's malicious will surging forward. You sigh. That was close. You ignore the fairy buzzing around you harmlessly, demanding you either kill it or change it back, and go look for the creepy salesman from before. Strange. You didn't see him leave, but he's no longer behind the log he was using as cover.

You decide to deal with the fairy now. You turn to it and snatch it out of the air, clutching it between your hands. “You’re going to have to repent for all the wrongs you did, or else I’ll never change you back. You have to be my minion now. If you’re good, I’ll change you back… eventually.” The fairy is about to protest, but you stuff it in your gunny sack. You can hear it complaining quietly, underneath all the flowers… Oh, shit! The flowers! You’ve been gone far too long! The funeral should be starting soon! What do you do?

[x]Run back to Woodglenn!

You decide, with relief, that the salesman must've run off somehow. You're not sure he was entirely sane, anyhow, so you don't think too much of it. Still, he definitely seemed to recognize the mask.. Speaking of which, you stuff it in your gunny sack, make sure the flower you picked for Marcy is safe on top of the stack, and begin running back to town. As you run, whispers from the mask enter the back of your mind. "He was a bad guy. You see? As soon as I beat his minions, he ran off. You did good. We have a puppet now. If we're going to play a game, it's more fun to have more toys to play with. More puppets." You shake your head, not sure what to say. You have some time before you reach town, if you want to try talking to the mask. What do you do?

You decide you want some answers, and begin talking to.. the mask, but it feels kind of silly. Like you’re talking to yourself, almost.
“Look, if we’re going to be playing this “game” and things are going to start attacking me, I want to know what you are. Where did you come from? And who are the bad guys, here, exactly?”
The mask is silent for a moment, and you fear it’s not going to respond at all, but then it speaks up, whispering to you. “I am Majora. I am the only good guy in this game. And.. You’ll have to be on my team. You can be a good guy, too. Everyone else is a bad guy. There are very many of them. They want to beat us. And you, too. But they can’t. Nobody can. We will play with them and then we will beat them. That’s how the game works. You put me on, so you’re playing now. You have to play.” It giggles wildly inside your head, and then becomes silent.

You’re not sure you like the implications here, but it DID save you from those poes.. You reach the edge of the woods and make your way toward the town proper, beelining for the graveyard. What do you do?

You're tempted to stop and find Marcy so that you can deliver the rose you picked for her, but you realize you're already dangerously late to the funeral. You decide to run straight to the graveyard. Upon arrival, you see a few people meandering about, waiting for things to start so they can go home. NOBODY really cared for Hendrickson. The mayor is here amazingly, along with a few other townsfolk you don't know, and.. Marcy. Huh. Good thing you didn't bother looking for her. Your father is standing outside your cabin, pacing back and forth. It's now about 3 PM, and the sky is a tad overcast. "There you are, Howard! What took you so-" He sighs. "It doesn't matter, I'm just glad you made it. And not a moment too soon. Did you get a good bunch of flowers?" You nod, and extract the wildflowers from your sack. You hand them over, closing your bag JUST as the fairy tries to zip out. You'll have to deal with him later. Your father heads over to the shack-like structure you keep bodies awaiting burial in, and after a short while, calls you over. "Uhh.. Howard? Can you come here, please?" Uh oh. That doesn't sound good. You hurry over, and your father leans out of the shack's door, white as a sheet. "Old Man Hendrickson is, er.. missing. This must be somebodies idea of a prank.. we need to figure out who took him. I'll go tell the mayor about the situation. You.. well, I guess you start looking. I'll join you soon enough."

And with that, he runs off toward the small group of people at the entrance of the graveyard. What do you do?

>[x]Search the creepy mausoleum because surely nothing could go wrong

You make your way to the stone mausoleum entrance in the far corner of the graveyard, thinking that if some punks hid the body, they might've hidden it down here. You slowly descend the stairway, footsteps echoing into the darkness below. Crap. It's pitch black down here, and you don't have a.. light.. you get an idea. You reach into your sack and produce the ghostfairy, holding it before you like a torch. It illuminates the stone halls fairly well. "Hey! Hey! Let me go! Curse you! Release me! I'll do as you say!" It squeaks at you, and you decide to give it the benefit of the doubt. It hovers beside you, casting light. "Can you not sense that, dark one? There is foul magic here. Are you scared? Eeh hee hee!" It titters. Foul magic? That is terrible, terrible news. You didn't sign up for this. The interior of the mausoleum is essentially a long, dark hallway lined with large stone coffins. There are quite a few, as Woodglenn is a very old town. You come to a crossroads, two smaller hallways branching off. You hear shuffling from within the one on the left. Aha! Maybe it's whoever took the body! But even with the fairy light, you can't see that well in here. What do you do?

It should have never been taken from me to begin with. It has it's claws in you, now, so I'm afraid there's simply nothing I can do to help you, young man. I'll have to find someone else to get my mask back for me. Hohoho." He chuckles again, his soft laugh echoing throughout the mausoleum. He bows to you, and then he is gone, leaving you alone with a very angry fairy. "What are you doing, throwing me like that?! What were you afraid of? There's nobody here! You mortals are pathetic!" He goes on like that. You hear more shuffling from further down the hallway, and figure you'd better head towards it. The hallway leads you to a much larger room, circular, and illuminated by a tiny hole in the center of the roof, allowing sunlight to stream down. It doesn't help much, but at least you can SORT of see. Which is how you see the slumped over, naked man lying in the corner. Definitely Old Man Hendrickson. Guess you've found him.. You walk over toward the corpse. You've seen plenty of bodies before, so they aren't anything particularly scary to you. As you draw closer to Old Man Hendrickson, though, you see something that DOES scare you. He silently and slowly rises from his collapsed pile in the corner, arms hanging limp at his sides, and continues staring at the wall before him.

You freeze, dead in your tracks. All the hair on your entire body stands on end, and goosebumps ripple up and down your entire flesh. You know Old Man Hendrickson is dead. You helped carry him into the shack where he was SUPPOSED to stay until his burial. He even SMELLS dead. You can smell sickly sweet rot coming from the corner, almost cinnamon-like. He continues staring directly in front of him, and you're afraid to move even a muscle. The mask whispers to you. "Another gift from the bad guys. They really want to beat us. Put me on and I will take care of everything." It giggles. What do you do?

You whisper to the fairy, which is floating nearby. "H..hey. Why is he walking around? He's supposed to be dead." The ghostfairy snickers at you. Some minion. "It's a re-dead, obviously. He's been reanimated by some fell magic. If you get his attention, he's going to come try and kill you and siphon your life force." It sounds sort of smug. You're going to have to try to exit very quietly to avoid alerting Hendrickson...

You tiptoe backwards, extremely quiet, diligently making virtually no noise as you backpedal through the entire crypt, somehow having memorized the floor pattern and layout to the point where you can navigate it without light. Backwards. As you reach the top of the stairs, back to daylight, your father is waiting for you. "Find anything, Howard? The Mayor has gone and started up some sort of witchhunt in town, trying to find out who's responsible." He sighs. "Yyyyyes. Yes. Found something. Yup. Found Mr. Hendrickson. In the corner. He stood up. I left. He's down there." You stammer out your story and then point back down into the crypt. Your father raises an eyebrow. "Howard, that can't be possible. We both saw him dead. Are you sure you haven't scared yourself into seeing something that isn't there? And where'd you find that fairy?! By the Giants, that's- ahem. Okay. We'll talk about all this later. For now, I'm going down there and I'm going to go see what you're so afraid of. You can come with me, or you can wait up here. What do you say?" What do you do?

>[x]Follow dad down, show him where you saw the corpse.

You light the way and your father leads, occasionally glancing back with an awed face at the red fairy following you. "I think it's, uh, a re-dead, Dad." You explain, trying to get him to believe you. "There's no reason Mr. Hendrickson would be a re-dead, son. Those monsters are only created under very specific circumstances. I'm sure your imagination just got the best of you." He sounds pretty certain. What if you DID imagine it..? He almost convinces you of that, and then you're back in the room where you found the corpse. It's right back how you found it, collapsed in the corner. Your father walks right up to it, ignoring your increasingly frantic warnings, and you stay relatively close to him. "See, son? It's just poor old Mr. Hendrickson. Some punks must've put him here. I can't imagine what sort of person would do this, though, especially in this town.." He turns around to face you. "I think we'd better carry him up. Give me a hand, would you, Howard?" Your eyes widen in horror as the body rises up, just as before. Your father is far too close for this to end well. Mr. Hendrickson's body stands up to full height, and begins slooowly turning around. You shout out a warning to your father, and it immediately lets loose with a petrifying, horrible screech!

You momentarily freeze in place, horrified by the screech and completely petrified, but you are very quickly able to break free, thanks to your experiences resisting the mask. Unfortunately, your father is not so lucky. He's frozen completely in place, facing away from the re-dead. It turns to face you and your father, and with horrifying swiftness, wraps itself around his paralyzed form, constricting him. Whatever it's about to do, it is certainly not good. The ghostfairy pipes in now. "You must slay it, dark one! Use your powers, or it will spread the curse!" You don't have much time, you're certain of that. What do you do?

>[x]Don the mask.

You know what you must do. You can almost feel the dark power radiating from the mask as you rip it out of your bag and place it on your face.

You immediately feel the consciousness that referred to itself as Majora rushing forward into your mind. It feels different this time. Last time, it was always there, but it was cowed. Watching. This time, you can feel the full force of it's will. Colossal. Gargantuan. You feel very, very small. This is a power that has destroyed kingdoms. You could use it, if you wanted. Grasp that power, follow every one of your whims. Destroy all who oppose you, and even some who don't oppose you-

Somebody cries out in pain. Your father! You must rescue him! You fling your arms at the beast, and they explode into a writhing mass of barbed tentacles that wrap around and constrict it. The might of the corpse is stronger than an average man, but nothing compared to your tentacles. You rip it off of your father brutally, and he falls over immediately, evidently unconscious.

The re-dead hangs in your tentacles, grasped by each limb. You pull him apart slowly, hoping you can milk some suffering out of him for harming your father. The re-dead screeches again as it begins to tear, but it does nothing to you.

RIP. RIIIIIIIIP. CRUNCH.

You rip it limb from limb, nearly bisecting it. The pieces of Old Man Hendrickson's corpse fall to the floor with a wet, nasty slap. You look to your father. What a pathetic man. If he were stronger, you wouldn't have had to- No! The mask is much stronger than you remember! You're going to have to try to maintain control.

Somehow, you manage to control yourself despite the horrifying dark power of the mask pouring forth. It cackles inside your head, urging you to do whatever you please. "Good guys have no consequences. We play however we like. Do whatever you want. It's all just a game. You need to find the bad guys!"

You ignore it's ramblings and decide now is a good time to help your father. You leave the mask on, as you can see perfectly in the near-dark of the crypt, and you are in control.. for now.

You turn him over and inspect him for any wounds. You see nothing but red, raw marks from the re-dead attempting to strangle him. Thankfully, you stopped it before he was bitten. You turn around and see the ghostfairy floating about aimlessly, and also- Uh oh.

The mayor stands in the hallway, holding a torch. You aren't sure when he arrived since you can see in the darkness anyway, and his torch did not alert you, but he's looking at the scene in front of you, mouth agape and eyes wide.

"H..Howard! Did you.. do this?! Mr. Hendrickson.. And Frank!?" He points at the pile of gore that was once Mr. Hendrickson's corpse and also at your prone, still-paralyzed father. "This is sick! I always knew there was something wrong with you, you weird little shit! You're a DEMON!"

You can't let this happen! If the Mayor tells everyone you're responsible for this, and that you're some sort of demon, they will listen. He's the Mayor. You'll be run out of town, or worse.

You fling your whiplike tentacles outwards and bind the mayor, dragging him back toward you much like a fish on a line. "ARGH! No! Unhand me, demon! Please don't kill m-MMPF!"

You cut him off by smothering his face with a tentacle. Can't have him screaming his head off, or someone else might come investigate.

"Listen to me carefully, Mr. Mayor. I just saved my father's life. Mr. Hendrickson turned into some.. horrible THING. I had to stop him. I did what I did to save my father. You have to believe me. And you're GOING to believe me, or else I'm going to show you other things I'm capable of."

He begins sweating profusely, and nodding his head repeatedly as if agreeing with you. You allow him to speak, and he quickly babbles an affirmation.

"Yes, yes, anything, anything you want! You're right, you were just helping; I didn't see anything nope no sir nothing at all just let me livepleaseletmeliveohwhy-" and you cut him off again, making the "SHH" gesture with a smaller tentacle. He nods, and you let him g-

"What are you doing? If he tells on us, they'll come for us. You know that. You should curse him, keep him silent. Nobody will suspect us. Or you I can make it so he can never talk again.." Majora giggles inside your head. What do you do?

You withdraw your tentacles quickly, and you have arms again. The mayor doesn't even turn around; he just NOPES right out, scooping up his fallen torch on the way. The ghostfairy pipes in.

"You should have slain him, dark one. There are no witnesses, and you would have been able to make up any story you desired. Or you could have given him the same fate you've given me. I do not understand-"

You cut him off by waving an arm at it and walk over to your father. You think the re-dead's screech should've worn off by now, but maybe he hit his head when he fell over. You aren't sure.

You remove the mask and stuff it back in your bag, and then walk to your father. You scoop him up and support him completely, which you just barely manage thanks to your burly physique. Digging those holes paid off for something, seems like.

Upon exiting the mausoleum, there is nobody left in the graveyard. You guess everyone left after the mayor told them the body was missing. You see a single flower sitting on the lip of his open grave, and briefly wonder who left it. You make your way to your cabin and lay your father in his bed. You breathe a sigh of relief. What a day. >[x]Collect Old Man Henrickson's parts and bury him yourself.
Unanimous decision! First time for that, I think.

You decide that, after everything that's happened, you'd better go collect what's left of Old Man Henrickson's body and give him a proper burial. It's strange, but you feel attached to the man. You respect him in a way you never did before you had to kill his zombie by ripping it apart. You suppose it brings you closer to someone.

About an hour and several filthy, dripping bags of disgust later, you've managed to fill Old Man Henrickson's coffin with his various parts, lower it into the grave, and bury it yourself, all with your crappy shovel. The hard work was good for you. You had a chance to reflect on the day, and ponder the strange, possibly horrible things that've happened to you. Though, before this, defeating poes and re-deads were things you'd only ever fantasized about. You're a gravedigger, not a brave adventurer exploring the ruins of Ikana, like in the stories you heard as a child.

Today, though, you feel powerful. And it's all because of that mask. You aren't sure if you should feel grateful or resentful. It hasn't really done anything to wrong you yet, but you've had to keep it on a fairly short leash.. You wonder how long you'll be able to do that.

You clean yourself off, put on fresh clothes, and stomp about the graveyard with your ghostfairy in tow. What do you do?

[]Go visit Marcy before it becomes too late; bring her the flower.
[]Go find the Mayor and iron out a story to go with.
[]Go to bed; you're completely exhausted and your father will probably sleep through the night.

[x]Go visit Marcy before it becomes too late; bring her the flower.

After properly arranging the wildflowers you picked on Hendrickson's grave and bowing your head in respect, you decide that it's time to finally bring Marcy the rose you plucked for her.

You make your way out of the graveyard and into town. There are people out and about here and there, but it's relatively quiet. Nights are certainly not exciting in Woodglenn, and people are afraid that somebody's playing violent pranks.

"Dark one, why do you occupy yourself with such trivial matters? How can one so concerned with petty things wield such great power? Perhaps I cannot understand the depths of your foul, dark mind. I am but a simple poe. My name was Nail, before. What am I to be called til I am released from my bondage, dark one?"

"Nail is fine, and you don't have to keep calling me 'dark one'. Why do you do that, anyway? And how did you know where I was, back in the woods?" Nail squeaks laughter.

"You could not tell? The mask you carry radiates a dark power. It is most attractive to beings of destruction and discord, like myself." You frown. You weren't aware the mask was any sort of beacon like that.

You arrive at Marcy's parents shop, and see that she's beginning to close up by herself. She's inside, sweeping the floor and humming to herself. What do you do?

[]Wait for her to finish and give her the rose outside. Don't want to be rude.
[]Head in. No sense in waiting around outside.
[]Forget it; she probably hates flowers anyway. Go do something else(Write-in)

>[x]Head in. No sense in waiting around outside.

You decide to meet her inside instead of standing out here like a moron. You walk up to the shop door, give it a gentle knock and walk in. She looks up at you and smiles.

"Oh, good evening Howard! I thought you'd be busy, since.. umm.. Well, the mayor told everyone what happened."

You swallow. Oh, shit. What did he say? "Oh, he did? What did you hear?"

"That some pranksters stole poor old Mr. Hendrickson's body and hid it, and that you and your father went to get it out. Only it was so dark down there, your father slipped and hit his head. How is he, by the way?" She smiles at you again, but it's kind of a pitying smile.

You shrug somewhat lamely. "Oh, er, he's fine. I think he just needs some rest. By the way, this is for you. I picked it earlier, but I didn't have a chance to give it to you.."

You produce the rose from behind your back. Her face instantly lights up and she blushes a bit. "Oh, Howard, you didn't have to do that! You were so busy all day, too.." She runs up and takes the rose, giving you a tight, squeezing hug. You blush.

"Well, er, you know, it wasn't any trouble or anything.. Heh heh.." She ignores your spaghetti babble, finds a vase, and sets it up on the front counter.

"That was really very sweet of you, Howard. I can't really talk to you for long, since I've got to finish closing up the store, but maybe we can go on that walk together tomorrow?" She smiles at you, and you nod.

"Yeah, that would be fun. Goodnight, Marcy."

"Goodnight, Howard. Oh! Wait! Before you go, why don't you take this? I made it the other day, and I've been fiddling with it, but I'm.. really quite awful." She walks up to you again and hands you a thin wooden flute. It seems quite well made, and very light.

"I made it out of a fallen branch in the woods a few days ago. It's sort of a hobby of mine.. anyway, goodnight!" She shuts the door, and you walk off the porch, holding a shiny new flute. Hm.

>>
>>27656205
You wander back to your cabin with your newfound flute, and collapse into your bed. Your father snores loudly across the room. Nail ends up sleeping in your bag, which sits beneath your bed. You hear Majora whisper into your head. "You have a nice life. They will come take it from you. That is how the game is played. You should stop fighting me. Nobody will beat us if we work together." It giggles and falls silent. You ignore it for now, and soon enough, fall into a deep slumber... and the dreams that come with it.

I'm probably missing something really obvious, but is this based on something?
>>
>>27656269
Yes. It's based almost entirely on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, in a sort of 'what if' AU sort of situation. That's the plan right now, anyway. Who knows how things'll go.
>>
>>27656269
It's based on and stuffed full with references to Majora's Mask. Like how we just got that flute, more than likely similar to the one used by the Skull Kid. Or how that poe turned fairy is apparently named Nail, which is sort of similar to Tael, the name of the fairy that accompanied the skull kid in the game. Oh, and OP outright stated that it's the same world.
>>
>>27656289
As i asked earlier what kind of images you want for the next thread?

>>
>>27656440
It possessed (probably?) the skull kid that found it, they went on a short tour of Termina screwing over people at random, then summoned the moon to crash into the world and destroy Termina. So yea, it kinda is. Seeing as this is an alternate universe though, it doesn't have to be. Hell, the game itself is vague enough that I could probably come up with a theory where it isn't evil and nothing in the game would contradict me.

Well, the Salesman saying so. It's not like Link isn't in the habit of going out of his way to help people out just for asking nicely. Most likely the best course of action is to GO ON AN ADVENTURE to find out what the mask actually is, and how to deal with it. Actually we might have a bigger window to act before link comes around then we might think. If you remember at the start of the game its skull kids actions that brings him to termina and against his will to boot. He might just pass us by for a while unless the happy mask salesmen intervenes. And then he will be without most of his masks because of the fact that we never turned him into a deku so he never learns the song of healing. Darmani doesnt die, the deku doesn't die mikau will probably die because the pirates stole the eggs and he goes to retrieve them. That is most of the map unaccessable to Link right there.

He bows to you, and then he is gone, leaving you alone with a very angry fairy

Sounds like he's going to be actively looking. But then, he could be looking for someone entirely else and OP is just trying to scare us by threatening to send Link on our asses.

You have a very good point there. Still he will not have the song of healing and we probably will not be cursing Link to be a deku so honestly he will not be able to get around as easily. More time for us to do what we need to. Then again he will probably still have his horse.

I'm still happy about our ghost fairy. Can't believe that happened and I'm so glad that our quest master made that happen.
>>
>>27656860
Oh and I just thought of this. If we don't go around breaking the Great Fairies then they might not give Link magic. He was given it as a reward for helping them after all. No magic means no fire arrows Meaning no way to get to the Goron village. Then again there isn't an insane blizzard going on so it might not be blocked off. Damn the more I think about it the more i realize that Link is going to have an easy time to get around.
>>
>>27656902
Shit wait I'm wrong I'm pretty sure you knock a icicle down onto it to smash it with your bow. No fire arrows needed.
>>
Funny the only place that isn't blocked off by Majora fucking with it is the ocean. Majora didn't even fuck with the ocean except to put a boss there. If Link has his horse he can get there no problem.
>>
>>27656860
>>27656902
Link works best when he's faced with adversity. If nothing is getting in his way, he won't have any reason to power up. He'll just march right up to us with 3 measly hearts. The tricky part is making sure he has no reason to come back, being the hero of time and all that.

>>27656911
You do. Fire arrows come from Snowhead, you'd need to be able to get in there without them.
>>
>>27656939
Hmmmm you have a very good point. If we can make ourselves as nonthreatening as possible he will not come at us as hard. As long as peoples lives aren't truely in danger I think he will take his time.

Captcha lonalink and
Link is indeed a loner.
>>
>>27656968
Well, we could always go in search for the origin of the mask - if Link does appear, we won't be that much of an issue because we're investigating the curse put on us and fleeing from a mad grinning salesman. Who's probably the BBEG.
>>
>>27656982
The only sticking point with this plan is that evil will start waking up around us. Link wouldn't have much of a problem following our tracks. Sure the monsters would slow him down a bit but in the end that wouldn't truely stop him. The best thing we can do is really not give him a time limit.
>>
>>27656982
Exactly. Our character isn't evil (yet) so not being evil is what we should logically be doing. We know that the mask is definitely evil, but that's why we can't just give it to the salesman. He won't say shit about it or what he'll do with it. If he was good, he wouldn't have to lie and dodge questions, so naturally we have to keep it from him because fuck knows what he'll do with it. The mask doesn't say anything useful either, Nail doesn't seem to know, and it's very unlikely anyone in town will know, though if we can think of any that might, we should ask them.

Given all of that, what is there to do but go somewhere else to look for answers. Such as a big city with smart people, maybe?
>>
>>27657015
They will most likely point us to Ikanya Canyon. Communing with the ancient spirits is probably our best bet.
>>
>>27657015
The Fairies?

What's weird is that the mask activated recently. You'd expect that, since it was just buried, it would draw unnatural attention to the village sooner. Did we awaken it, or does the Salesman's arrival have to do something with that?
>>
>>27656997
There's another related point. Not only will bad things happen around us, but we'll be having Majora constantly trying to make us evil, and by the nature of the dice, we are going to fail some of those saves. So unless plot progression reveals something we can use to stay good, ultimately that plan is as doomed as tetris.

Still, it's one I think would make sense for the character at the moment, which is what's most important to me.
>>
>>27657043
Hmmm you have a point.

I honestly am kinda worried about asking the fairies. They will know its dark magic we are playing around with. And majora might just take the chance to break the fairies while we are there. It would cause them to want to help Link in his quest.
>>
>>27657066
I have made this point earlier. Its hard to tell though since I don't have a name on. Im the guy who has been posting a bunch of images.
>>
>>27657029
I'd expect so. Ikana already was heavily implied to be strongly related to Majora, but our character wouldn't know that just from digging holes all his life.

>>27657043
I'd speculate that by nature of being a mask, it needs a wearer for it to have power. Remove the wearer and it will eventually run out of power.
>>
>>27657110
Maybe. So we could go on a quest to drop that thing someplace where it/we won't be found (the middle of the ocean, perhaps), but that probably wouldn't work since Majora now has access to our head. That'd leave us with a pilgrimage to find a way to break the curse.
>>
>>27657139
The curse on the mask. If we can remove its evil then we can have a mask of pure power.
>>
>>27657075
I bet our friendly not-fairy would make it a hilarious encounter, though.

>>27657139
Yea, it did at least manage to move from the bushes we hid it in to our bed in the first thread. Chances are dumping it isn't actually possible, though we haven't really tried.
>>
>>27657148
Sorry meant the first part to be a question.
>>
>>27657148
Or a mask of nothing, if all of that power is inherently evil, best you can do is get all of it to go away.
>>
>>27657148
I think we could. But I think the issue is less that the mask is cursed and more that it's sentient and capable of acting on its own. So even breaking the curse (if there even is one) wouldn't do us much good because we'd be stuck with a sentient artifact of evil and madness, in which case our only option is to destroy the mask somehow.
>>
>>27657189
Its possible.

So what we have basically boiled it down to is simply:

Go to clock town to try to find out more about the mask. Its origins and anyway we can resist its control.
Try not to be evil as long as possible.

I say we should add one more thing to the list.

Try to find out more about the happy mask salesman. If we have to ask the fairies.
>>
>>27657263
Ok i must be tired i meant for this post to reply to >>27657173
>>
>>27657263
Adventure, ho!
>>
>>27657263
Okay with me. We'll also have to get some experience in fighting - so far, whenever shit happened, we don the mask. We'll slip, and then fuck up big time.

I think there's another way to deal with the mask, but this is completely hypothetical and most likely won't work, but it'd fit nicely with the gravedigger bit.

You know how Majora's Mask came to be, right? There was this big, powerful monster called Majora whose armor was said is capable of granting wishes. Majora defeated every adventurer that came before it, until one day a mysterious traveler arrived. He talked with Majora, and found out that it wanted to die, but couldn't. So the traveler began playing a song, and Majora danced for three days, until it collapsed. The wish-granting armor was then made into the mask, and Majora's power was sealed in it. The mask became sentient, and began looking for a host to have its wish fulfilled.

What if it's wish is to die and be buried? Maybe that's why it resonated with Howard (he's a gravedigger and works with the dead), and why it wants us to go against the whole world.
>>
>>27657321
I have to ask where you have heard that story. Its a good one.
>>
>>27657321
Isn't that comic non-canon? It's an interesting perspective, though
>>
>>27657335
It's from the Majora's mask manga. It's considered non-canon, though, so I doubt that's what happened here.

>>27657338
Yeah. The other theories are that it's made by the Ikana Kingdom in ages past, or that the guys from Twilight Princess made it.
>>
>>27657410
Ah I actually read up on the happy mask salesmen from that. He was definitely evil in that one.
>>
>>27657410
Some think the Garo made it, but that's really just because one of the bosses in Stone Tower was a Garo. We know nothing else about them, so it's impossible to say what their involvement is.

Personally I find the Twili being the ones who made it to be the most likely theory. The stories fit very well. And Ikana seemingly did not make the Stone Tower, but were just fucked over by the darkness that came from the tower.
>>
>>27657453
The stone towers from Ikana probably got cursed by the goddess, as they were meant to be an insult to them according to some theory. They are basically giant stone dicks built to reach the sky were the goddess came from, to show them Termina didn't need the goddess.

The Majora's mask was used in dark ritual by a tribe eons ago, could have been the twili or a tribe of human that stole the mask from them.
>>
>>27657669
Yeah but the lines about majora's mask being used in a dark ritual by a tribe long ago was given to us by the happy mask salesman ingame. We don't think he is the best place for answers since he is really sinister and in this quest he was dodging questions. Majora might have a different origin story in this quest. We really don't know so we are going to see if we can find out more information about where the mask came from and about the happy mask salesman.
>>
>>27657706
Fair enough. But it doesn't look Majora want to talk about his origins yet. He dodged the question earlier in the thread.

Actually, for all we know he has no memory of his origins or no memory at all. That could explain why he needs an host to work properly.
>>
>>27657669
Yea, the tower of babel theory, I remember that one.It also involves some of the Stone Tower artwork looking like figures licking the Triforce and such, the phallic symbols being because the Terminans worshiped the MALE giants, as opposed to the three goddesses. I don't remember how Majora was involved though. That needs to be explained considering that's the centerpiece of the temple.
>>
>>27657706
>Majora might have a different origin story in this quest.
I do hope so. Best if OP has his own version of things instead of either of the popular theories. I like being surprised.
>>
>>27657732
The theory stated that Majora was the being sealed in the stone towers originally. Twinmold was simply a little something Majora left behind in his old prison.

Don't forget the triforces on the upside down blocks and pillars.

It's possible that bloody history of war in Ikana was caused by Majora.
>>
>>27657768
If we want this discussion to continue we might want to look into making a new thread because this one is going to hit the bump limit soon. Sure it may take 2 hours for a thread to 404 here but do you want to take the chance?
>>
>>27657768
But then the purpose of the tower would have been to serve as a prison, not to fuck the goddesses. Not supporting the tower of babel theory at all.

>>27657792
Eh, plenty of time. Besides, it's not even /tg/ related.
>>
>>27657792
Yes.
>>
>>27657824
The reason why they built the towers was probably to fuck the goddesses, but after the kingdom of Ikana fell, they could have used the tower to seal the Majora's mask inside.
>>
>>27657868
Man, trying to remember all this stuff is giving me a headache. Ikana was a fucking mess and I hope we'll go there so I can see how OP will present it.
>>
>>27657824
I'm currently watching a playthrough of the stone tower temple so I can remember it.

Here is a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojWNcvk6kdo
>>
>>27657992
Yeah this is going to be good. We don't have the gear to do any of the temples but maybe we could improvise if we need to go into them. i know for a fact that a simple hand mirror could replace the mirror shield
>>
>>27658400
I don't like the way you think. We are Majora, we are the one that will corrupt those temples and leave monsters for the hero to defeat at some later point.
>>
>>27658582
more like we're Majora's puppet. Even so, most of those temples are indeed bad because of Majora fucking shit over, it's not their normal state.
>>
>>27658582
So you want to be killed by the hero of time hacking the system with a continuous 3 days so he can become powerful enough to defeat us? Why don't we go in a different direction then the games? See what can happen if the skull kid COULD resist the evil in the mask. Besides we don't even know if the mask it truely evil.
>>
>>27658619
Skull kid was a mischievous little bastard before the mask. It's likely that everything aside from the moon was perfectly fine by him. They're just pranks on a bigger scale, featuring that slightly sadistic humor that woodland creature always seem to have.
>>
>>27658664
Yeah, Howard's more the grumpy, apathetic and lazy guy than a dickish trickster.
>>
>>27658619
Ah come on now. We don't see quests in which we can be a true villan that often.

>>27658664
I say we become a sadistic bastard out of revenge.

They reject us. They call us weird. They treat us like an outcast. They say something is wrong with us. Lets see how they like it when WE destroy their lives.
>>
>>27658731
I can understand that but there is also the very rare opertunity here for us to make a very unique majoras mask quest. Sure we could go full evil. Fuck over all the gorons, kill everything that lives in the swamps, pull down the moon. But what would happen if we didn't? Where could to Quest master take us? What other hidden things could we find in termina? Maybe the happy mask salesman is a lot worse then everyone imagines? I can't really pass up a chance to see where this might end.
>>
>>27658731
But that's not nearly as fun as slowly, gradually descending into despair as all of your efforts to do good get fucked over and the world just becomes worse and worse, everything you love is taken away from you, and the fear and hatred of you grows, all in spite of your intentions and wishes, until finally you can take no more. Then we'll see how much THEY can take.
>>
>>27658731
We went through this earlier. If we cause too much shit we are going to end up getting the attention of the Hero of Time, which is bad.

Also I'd like to see where this could go if we avoid doing everything the way the Skullkid did. We're bound to end up doing some horrible things whenever Majora gets control, but I'd rather fight back against that as long as possible.
>>
>>27658773
I have an idea. We could start the cult of Majora and amass worshippers. After getting a good following in termina, we could start other groups in each regions.

Instead of fuckiing Termina, we could corrupt the hell out of it.
>>
>>27658828
Yes! We could make more good guys, we don't have to be afraid of the bad guys if we have both Majora AND numbers on our side.
>>
>>27658828
I wouldn't mind if we go on a road to discover the ancient past of Termina - you know, when the original Majora lived, the Ikana Kingdoms, or maybe even go further back and meet the Twili and their predecessors.
>>
>>27658828
I really do like this idea. If this could pan out we might make ourselves gods. The only problem might be the unknown that is Majoras goal. If its to destroy the world then it would be pointless we would die in the end. If its simply to cause some havok then that could work out.
>>
>>27658851
We could start by properly hexxing the mayor. As a person in a position of power, he conld help us tremendously with the cult.

>>27658855
Imagine if we build the Kingdom of New Ikana over the dark bloody ruins of the old one?

>>27658859
If we manage corrupt Termina, we could lead our army to war with Hyrule in an insanely bloody conflict.
>>
>>27658855
This is really where the Quest is headed so far though. Everyone wants to discover the mystery's behind the mask and its connection to the happy mask salesman. Learning these 2 things will determine the rest of the quest.
>>
>>27658828
I don't mind going that way. Eventually. As it is now, I don't really get an evil vibe from our character, a sudden shift for no reason would be terrible. For now, our character has already felt the way Majora tries to seize his mind. The only thing that makes sense for him to do is to either try find a way to control Majora without losing himself either by magic or just by learning its true intentions, or to try to get rid of Majora. Most likely while doing that more shit will happen, and that shit will affect our character so we could go bad or hero the fuck up.

I just hope that whichever direction we take the character, we do it in a way that makes sense. Because character development is awesome.
>>
I think we should make a journey to figure some thing out before deciding what to do later.

Maybe we'll try to dispose of the mask, or uncurse it.
Maybe we'll give in and play Majoras game of good guys-bad guys.
Personally I like the idea of making a cult, but we'll have to see how things work out while our character figures things out.
>>
>>27658939
I agree in the end its not the destination that matters, its how you get there that is truly important. You may find that somewhere along the way you don't even need to go anywhere.
>>
>>27658894
As I stated previously the only problem that I can see with this is what are the happy mask salesman's intentions with Majora's mask, and the intentions of the mask itself.

Starting a cult without knowing either of these things is somewhat like starting a cult to Cthulhu. Your going to die a horrible death. We just don't know if its going to be at the hands of the happy mask salesmen or the mask itself causing Armageddon by Moon.
>>
>>27658908
True, and it's the only logical thing the character can decide upon. He doesn't know what he's dealing with, so his next step should be figuring out what's going on, what's the mask, and who is the masked salesman.
>>
>>27659139
That may proves extremely difficult as it doesn't look like Majora want to talk about his origins or his goal. We may have to threaten Majora to get anything out of him.

I doubt we'll get much out of the Happy Mask Salesman, he talks a lot but doesn't say much.
>>
>>27659191
As stated above there are other ways to find out. The fairies are still together but securing their help will probably take some work since we are using dark magic. They should have a clue on who or what the happy mask salesmen is and a glimpse into his motives if he is a not a human. The giants would also probably remember the origins of the mask at least.
>>
>>27659191
>threat Majora
Holy shit you've got some balls, dude.

Someone in the world has to know about it. A scholar or a sage or even some magical entity. It's just a matter of finding that person. I still suggest that Clock Town would be the place to ask, being the "metropolitan" center of Termina.
>>
>>27659271
Didn't the Fairy of Magic accept the help from Skull kid? If we prove ourselves useful, no reason she help us.
>>
>>27659284
Well, lets not forget that there is one person Majora seem to be afraid of; the happy mask salesman.

We could simply offer majora a deal: either he tells us the truth or we give him to the salesman.
>>
>>27659303
Majora can see into our mind. If we don't resist he could easily call our bluff. And if we make an enemy of Majora he could probably just find another puppet to play his game of good guys and bad guys. We want to come out with a net positive and being killed by Majora or the happy mask salesmen (if he turns out to be evil) is probably a big negative in most peoples books.

There is also the possibility that BOTH are evil, and the happy mask salesmen just wants the masks power for his own use.

In the end we don't know and it would probably be better to not make an enemy of the only ally we have for as long as possible.
>>
>>27659300
They were friends before the skullkid got a hold of the mask I believe. The way they bring it up though makes me think that they might not care too much about the dark magic as long as we don't hurt people. They seem to be creatures of balance and know that both good and evil is needed.
>>
>>27659353
Then again they always help the hero and evil always goes out of its way to destroy them. Soo take from that what you will.
>>
>>27659365
Well, the Skullkid broke them apart, how we do something a bit different and bring them to your side?
>>
>>27659390
our side *
>>
>>27659390
That is the question isn't it how do you help a being that is while not your equal in magic still quite powerful? What could it possibly want?
>>
>>27659416
An excellent question.

We could use deceit and treachery to make her believe we helped her after causing her some major trouble.

We could also break her apart under another guise then forcefully corrupt a few pieces of her using the mask. Once reunited, lets hope that the corruption will overtake her.
>>
>>27659390
>>27659416
They're generally on the side of everyone that isn't trying to hurt them. Similarly to how the generic fairies will respond to you stuffing them in a bottle by helping, great fairies are usually inherently helpful. There's a reason they're a prime target for any evil dudes trying to grab some easy power.
>>
>>27659530
True enough. But how do we prevent our opponents from getting the blessing of the fairy?
>>
>>27659530
>>27659552
So we can impress them by telling them that our fairy companion isn't a really fairy but a poe. We are using a fairy substitute.
>>
Reading all this, I sure hope OP is on his game, because this has some great potential.
>>
>>27659567
That might be more damning then we might think.

>>27659552
In all honestly the best we can do is try to prove that we are not evil and hope the fairies refuse to help because we haven't done any evil
>>
>>27659567
New idea: we hex a bunch of monsters to turn them into fairies and start building a dark fairy army.
>>
>>27659552
Can we get the fairy to bless us instead of our enemy? We prove our worth, show her that we're a good guy trying to survive and undo the mask, and we become the designated hero instead of Link?
>>
>>27659567
I have no idea how that is supposed to impress them.

>>27659552
Have our opponents be evil. If you're evil, either destroy the greats (this never seems to work) or look into finding a way to turn fairies into anti fairies. There's no way that's only a one way street.
>>
>>27659618
Basically become their friends and hope they are bro enough to not hinder us in our quest to find answers.
>>
>>27659644
Probably. Explain the problem to them and they're likely to sympathise with you. Plus, if you're trying to do good, well, in most of their appearances the great fairies seem to have the hero version of a gaydar.
>>
>>27659646
It impresses them because we aren't abducting and torturing natural fairies, and instead imprisoning an evil monster?
>>
>>27659736
I'm pretty sure that most fairies would be against torture period.
>>
>>27659736
By all indications, fairies are barely concerned by abduction rates at all. They probably consider it a minor nuisance at worst, an interesting day at best.

Torture probably isn't cool, but I didn't know we were going to torture our fake-fairy anyway.
>>
>>27659770
We're not torturing our fake-fairy buddy. Messing around with him, sure, but he'll probably be our only friend once we get exiled from the town.
>>
>>27659896
Even then he thinks of his existence as a fairy as a bondage. He does not like being a fairy and only sticks around in the hopes that we can change him back. I'm pretty sure he could just fly the fuck away and never return otherwise.
