You stare at the stopwatch under a streak of light from one of the hatch's numerous observation holes. "I think we can get this under sixteen..." You say after a moment to think about. "Let's run it again." The statement is met with groans from most of the crew- notably Patrick and Richard down in the hull, who have been doing almost nothing during this. "Cut the crap. I think we can get this under sixteen today." You say, sighting in from the Commander's sight.

"...Already feels like my arms are getting ready to come loose." Roy says, putting himself back into his original starting position.

"Good." You reply sharply. "If we can do this under sixteen with your tired arms, we can do in fifteen when you're fresh again." Twelve seconds was the goal- one round every three seconds for five rounds. It was in no way a sustainable pace, but a burst of firepower like that would be devestating in the right circumstances. "Get ready..." You say, resetting the stopwatch. "Three... Two... One... GO!"

The process repeats again as you watch rounds arc across the range through your commander's sight. You will each shot to be just a bit faster as Roy and Rose tear through another five rounds- normally you expected a round every six to eight seconds- Roy could physically load much faster than that, the main lag time was allowing Rose to sight in and fire on targets.

As you hit the stopwatch and look down- 16.16, Patrick calls up from the radioman's post at the hull machinegun. "Russells- Anzu's on the horn. She's got an announcement and wants us to head back to the hanger." He says, excited at the prospect of doing something other than play solitaire on his phone- he thinks you don't notice those things.

And Roy- well the ability to load, discard and reload a shell that weighed over fourty pounds every three seconds was- well it wasn't superhuman but it would definately be getting close.

You pop the hatch and fire the ventilation up to full, sucking fresh air into the hot, stale turret. Climbing up onto the lip, you duck your head slightly to clear the upper edge of the hanger's door. You immediately spot Anzu, standing atop the Panzer IV with her cellphone out- the rest of the crews gathered around below her. In the two weeks since the parade, training had become routine- the various Oorai crews had improved tremendously in almost every area- they still had a long way to go, but they were starting to look more and more like professional tank crews.

Out in the field, at least- in the hanger they'd gathered together, talking excitedly among themselves about what the announcement could be- you already had a pretty fair idea; they official tournement ladder was supposed to be released this week.

You cross your fingers as Richard brings Black Jack to a stop, sliding down off the turret and to the ground and striding towards Anzu.

They have enough tanks to field three teams, but there's a max limit to how much tanks you can field at the very start of the tourney. The cap is 10 at the first round. Anchovy had 12 in the 2nd round in the manga, if I'm not mistaken.

You skirt back around the crowd as they begin murmuring among themselves again. "Saunders?" "They're really well equiped!" "They're one of the favorites to win this year!" You finally find Miho in the crowd, towards the back standing next to Saori and Yukari.

"So, Saunders, then? How screwed are we?" You ask dryly of the Panzer IV's commander and your still-secret girlfriend. Well, secret to everyone except most of your crew. And Saori. And Anzu and her crew. Alright, so it wasn't the best kept secret but neither of you have really gotten around to disseminating information regarding how you were more than fellow tank-commanders.

God, you're bad at this.

Miho starts at your voice, but smiles. "It could be a lot worse- They're well equipped but they're always overconfident." She says, looking back at Anzu. "They've got a lot of tanks in their garage, though. It's hard to predict what they'll bring." She says, obviously thinking three steps ahead of what she's actually talking about.

"Over Forty, altogether!" Yukari chips in. "They've got more tanks than Black Forest and Pravda put together! In fact when they one a few years back, they brought twenty-five tanks to the final match. Pravda was completely swamped!" She looks over towards you and waves. "They've always been a really rich school, so they buy up tanks wherever they can find them."

Saunders uses American steel, you've heard this much- a lot of schools use tanks from the same country. To a certain extent there are reasons for it, tanks from the same country often use similar kinds of ammunition and are designed to work within a similar overall strategy. By using similar tanks it became easier to create larger strategies, not to mention parts and ammunition became easier. "So what sort of tanks do they like to use? Shermans I'm guessing-"

Miho nods. "Yes, and a lot of them- Most of what we saw were A2 and A3, models last year. However they did have an ace up their sleave..." She says quietly, obviously thinking back.

"A Firefly." Yukari says in awe. "It was their big killer last year- The 17pdr put the hurt on a lot of tanks- Even managed to knock out a couple of Black Forest tanks..." Yukari does a fair immitation of the noise of the British gun. Miho winces a bit.

"Their gunner is very talented." Miho says quietly. She looks at you. "We're going to need time to plan, we're going to be fighting more tanks at once than we've ever been up against..."

We find their Firefly before they find our Pershing

A Firefly is just a Sherman with a bigger gun.

Only the 38(t) is going to possibly have a tough time getting a kill-shot on it from most angles.

Possibly the M3, but that 75 can still pack a major punch.

The Excelsior and IV can punch through the Sherman's armor fairly easily as well, and God help that Firefly if GUTS finds them.

As great as it would be to gain an extra crew, I'm not sure that they'd be able to master the I-Go in whatever time we have left until our match. Moreover, I wouldn't wish that tank upon any crew, novice or otherwise.

You sigh and look up at Anzu- "So, guess I'll call my grandfather and have him put on a pot of Chili for tonight then?" You say shrugging as you turn back to Yukari and Miho. "Sounds like we need another planning session..." Both Miho and Yukari brought a ton of valuable information to the table, so to speak- Miho has practical experience with the other schools' teams and their tanks, while Yukari has more specific historical information. When the three of you had sat down last time, you'd come up with the strategy that you'd used to take down Glorianna's tank team despite being severely outmatched.

Miho nods happily. "Sounds like a plan! And your grandfather is a great cook!" She turns and smiles at Yukari. "What time can you come, Yukari?" She says. "You were a huge help last time, it'd be great if you could come help again!"

Yukari smiles. "You know, I've actually got plans tonight!" She says, rubbing the back of her head. "I know, right?!" She says after you and Miho exchange surprised looks. "Don't worry! You guys can get some basic plans started and I'll do some research of my own and see if I can narrow down what they'll be using!" Yukari smiles and salutes.

"Guess I'll save some chili for you then." You say, shrugging. "With all the spices he puts it, the stuff doesn't have a shelf-life so much as a half-life."
