One of the devs mentioned in the Q&A thing on the official forums that they had certain "codenames" for a number of the scenes, which were always based on some item in the scene. He identified "baseball" and "muffin" as two of them, so it seemed likely that Hisao actually got hit by a baseball out of nowhere and died or something. The dev also admitted that the baseball scene was stupid and was cut for that reason, if I remember correctly.

However, with obviously little prejudice and obviously extreme logic, the muffin scene was not deemed bad, showing one of the many follies of 4LS.

But that's another story.
