Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

Xile is behind you, and you're glad to be rid of it - Aeolus's ancient kingdom was nothing but bad luck and ill-fated decisions. The Staff of Winds is still out in the world somewhere, stolen by the mysterious Melody.

However, in completing the Moonsong and defeating Fleet, you aquired two more shards - Hammer, and Breeze. There should only be two more; you're aware that one of them is waiting in the Frozen Hand, Erebus's old stomping grounds.

After tying up lose ends with Vonnegut, you decided to fly to Archon both to inform Fang about the fate of the staff, and to try and barter for his support. Archon's power and resources will be critical to cementing the union being formed by Blackwater and Auriel that is bringing together Felnoir and the fractured denizens of the Great Forest to face a common enemy - Kan-Abar's demon lords. With those nations united, she then plans to approach Arland and use Flint's influence to create a grand alliance to turn and face Kelvere.

The familiar sight of Archon's canyon fortress rises up above the river floor. You soar with Abigail secure in your arms, taking her to the central plaza in the midst of the administrative buildings in the center of the city. It isn't long before Fang's distinct aura begins to rapidly approach your position.

You linger in an alley near the plaza, waiting with Abigail. She bites her lip, then folds her arms. Unfolds them. Folds them again.

<You seem nervous.>

"...we didn't part on good terms," she mumbles.

<No. But he'll hear us. Hear you.>

She sighs, then nods. "Maybe."

The thumping boots clamp out from the other side of the plaza. Fang approaches in their midst, his eyes on your location. You step out of the Shadows with Abigail at your side.

He gestures with a hand, and the guards spread out, establishing a small perimeter to shield you from the prying eyes of nearby pedestrians. He glances at you. His eyes are as hard and determined as you remember, but his face seems tired. "Shadow."

<Fang.>

He looks to Abigail. "...Miss Fang."

"Abigail is fine, uncle."

"...Abigail, then." His eyes linger on her. His mouth opens, as if he wants to say something, but he closes it a moment later. "Come. In the open, anyone can hear."

In a few minutes, you ascend a familiar pair of stone steps and reach the bottom of his tower. The guards take up around the outside of the building; you follow Fang inside, past the wide atrium, and up the winding spiral staircase that traverses the height of the archmage's tower.

His study is as you remember it - bookshelves line the walls. Strange metal devices and trinkets rest on the shelves or float in the air. His desk is spartan in its neatness, papers carefully aligned and divided into piles. He sits in his leather chair and flicks a finger. Two chairs drift down from alcoves on the ceiling and position themselves in front of the desk. "Please, sit."

You do so. Abigail sits next to you. You exchange a quick look. Fang leans onto his desk with his elbows and sighs. "So. What happened?"

What do you tell him?

Ah, I understand now. The Sword would sever space-time and basically completely destroy the affected area. The Hammer momentarily compresses space-time, basically creating a small, temporary black hole in the area.

The amount of radiation using that thing emits must be nearly fatal to nearby living beings.

I thought that was obvious from it only momentarily compressing. Besides, the explosion wouldn't be half as fatal as the compression, if things only return to their original shape instead of slightly over-extending, which would rip EVERYTHING apart and cause a nuclear explosion worth more than the target's weight in TNT.

That didn't happen, so I can only assume any explosions caused to be due to material being superheated by first filling the area and then being rapidly moved away.

This is another point I forgot to bring up. The compressed target will become as hot as the Sun. Let that sink in for a moment.

"Xile wasn't a friendly place," you say. "We found the staff...but it was a fake."

Yi Fang stares at you for a moment. "A fake staff," he says. "Are you quite serious?"

<Let me elaborate.> You begin to shift your human form into the image of Melody you remember. In a moment, you've replicated her face, hair, and her clothing. "Does this ring any bells?" you ask in her voice.

Fang leaps up from his chair, inhaling sharply. "What - how - what is the meaning of this?!"

You shift your form back to normal. <This woman - Melody - stole the staff and left a fake one behind, along with a message: that if you wanted the staff, you'd have to find her and take it.>

Fang just stares at you. His gaze slides past you, and he stands there, peering into the wall.

And then, he chuckles. His laugh starts to build, and he puts his hand on his face and leans back, laughing. You glance at Abigail. She looks back, shrugs, and shakes her head.

<What is it?> you ask. <Who is she?>

"Was," he says. He settles back on his feet and falls into his chair. He hangs his head. "She's dead, now. She was 26...oh...143 years ago? She actually made it to Xile. I can't believe it. All this time..."

"Was she from Archon?" Abigail asks.

Fang nods. His gaze lingers on his desk. The burning hardness is gone from his face. "I knew her, long ago. A powerful shadow mage, Genius, really. She was an orphan, saved from an angelic purge near the border at Arland. Her natural talent brought her favor from one of the minor families, and she exceeded in the Scholomance. She was...a confidant, of sorts, while I was being groomed for leadership. I was surrounded by sycophants, other nobles. She was...different. Amusing in her irreverence. Creative." His voice is soft, and distance. "We were...competitive. Rivals. But really...very similar. In some ways."

"What happened to her?" Abigail asks. Her voice is soft, too. You glance at Abigail, and you see pity on her face.

"...when I emerged from the Archonium," he says, "things...changed between us." Fang stands up. He turns, facing the wide window at the back of the study, and folds his arms behind his back. "I understood duty, then. I understood what I had to do. She...disagreed with many of my early decisions. Some were...radical, I admit. But early after the power transition, I had to be harsh. Bring the families into the fold. Lead with a grand vision, restore Archon to its former power - it was my lead up to the war, you see. But...in the heat of an argument concerning one of those decisions...she threatened to leave. I dismissed her off-hand, and the next morning, I found that she really had left."

"Why didn't you go after her?" Abigail whispers.

His head lowers. He stares at his feet. "...I wanted to...but..." He turns back around to face you, and his eyes are hard once again. "I had a country to rule, and no time for one person's sentimentality. I couldn't sacrifice my momentum - my resolution - for that." He begins to pace the floor, gesturing as he continues talking. "Melody was fascinated with the Skysever. A spell of that power would, naturally, attract the attention of the best of mages. She insisted that, though it had been constructed to target Shadow, that its hasty casting had to leave some sort of loophole. I guess she really found it." He stops pacing, his eyes looking at a tall bookshelf. "Of course, she knew of my plans for the staff - the aerial fleet was her idea. A defensive tool to protect Archon. But...I never heard from her again, after that."

He looks back at you. "As to where the staff rests now...who knows? The trail is a century cold. She's long gone."

<...what about Flint?> you ask.

"...you do not have the staff," Fang says. "But - "

Abigail rises from her chair. "We went to Xile, just as you asked!" she shouts. "That place was like a piece of the nether itself. You can't just - "

"Abigail!" Fang holds up a hand. "I...will fulfill my end of the bargain concerning the knight's parasite. The point is yours - you did as I asked. And as I bargained, I will personally ensure that the shel'kath is dealt with. The question is, how can I approach Arland - to which the parasite's trail seems to lead - without raising the ire of the Ringed City?"

<We might have a solution to that,> you say.

"Is that so?" Fang asks. "What do you have in - " He stops. His gaze shifts. His eyes darken. "Abigail...your hand."

Abigail folds her good hand over the loose sleeve hanging over the end of her left arm. "...I'm glad it wasn't my life."

"Who, or what, was responsible?" He turns a glare on you, and despite yourself, you feel a small twinge of fear. "What have you done?"

"It isn't Shadow's fault," Abigail says. "We were in over our heads. We all were. Shadow has promised to help me fix it."

"Fix it," Fang says flatly. "He's promised to help 'fix it'. That's it?"

"Yes," Abigail says. "I don't need anything else." She looks at you and smiles. You swell with warmth.

Fang settles down on his heels, gives you a look, then glances back to Abigail. "...if you've come to arrangements, then it's no business of mine. What is this solution you spoke of?"

How do you approach the situation?

Abigail glances at you. You give her a single nod.

Abigail spreads her hands and begins to explain Auriel's plans. Fang frowns at first, but his expression grows thoughtful as Abigail continues. When she mentions the werewolves and orcs, he needles his fingers, and the edges of a smile builds on his lips.

When she finally finishes, you see that old, evil smile reach across Fang's face from ear to ear. "So," he says, "your growing alliance needs a backbone, I'd imagine? One like Archon?"

Abigail nods. "We came here to tell you about what happened on Xile - but this a chance for Archon, too. Smoothing over things with things you created, and abandoned - werewolves, orcs. A new relationship with Felnoir, which has been estranged from the Empire."

"A chance?" Fang asks. "It sounds more like a great risk, to me. Why should Archon bear the brunt of demon lords? We have the Black Lady to watch, and frankly, Arland is the next logical target for Kan-Abar. Why join hands with enemies that will turn on me as soon as the demons are dealt with when I can sit back and watch their power erode?"

"The demons will turn to Archon, eventually. Distance won't protect you forever."

"When the time comes, Archon will aid its allies," Fang says. "As soon as the Empire has tired itself out fighting them, of course." He grins again. "The Black Lady could strike at any time. I can't just commit my forces in the south unless there is the most dire need. Surely the common man can rest easy with the angelic battalions on their way. Surely the Most High has things in hand. " Fang's grin spreads wider. "That arrogant bastard wouldn't ask me for help if I knew a spell to summon Hyperion."

"You'd sit and watch thousands of people be slaughtered for the sake of political positioning?!" Abigail shouts.

"I think so, yes."

Abigail clenches her jaw. She sits back in her chair, and nods. "No. You won't have to."

"And what does that mean?"

"I want Archon's support," Abigail says. "In exchange...I'll finish my training. As your student, and as a councilor."

Fang does a double-take. "...you've reconsidered? You'll...you..."

"Yes."

Fang closes his eyes. He lets out a long, quiet breath. "I see." He looks up at her. "I will need to convene the council. They will have to vote you in. The circumstances of your departure have been...controversial, shall we say. I need a day to coordinate the votes."

"Then you'll commit to the alliance?" Abigail asks.

Fang nods. "If I arrive as the vanguard against the demon lords, I have diplomatic footing in Arland, which will assist in dealing with the knight's condition. I suspect that meeting won't happen for some months - but the winter is just beginning. There is time, yet." Fang taps his chin. "Sandalphon has been quiet - and now I know why. He's waiting on Lucifer. And he'll keep waiting."

Fang looks at you. "You are free to stay here, Abigail, Shadow. Abigail...your quarters are as you left them. I won't forbid you from the city, but keep a low profile until tomorrow." And with that, Fang strides to a side door toward his private dock, no doubt heading for his personal air skiff.

Abigail looks at you. "Well...I guess that went about as well as it could have gone. What do we do now?"

Abigail blinks for a moment. "Uh...well...I'm not sure. I feel like I haven't really seen Archon in...years." She glances at you. "To be honest...it's like it never stops. Maybe we could explore the city? Or just...go on a picnic, or something." She frowns, then covers her mouth. "Wait! I don't have any money. What are we supposed to do for food?"

You open a pocket on your satchel, revealing a handful of coins. "Auriel gave these to me in case I needed them for the trip."

"Oh, good!" Abigail glances down at her clothes. You realize that, while magic helps with cleanliness, they aren't in the best of repair after the adventure on Xile. "The city might be nice. But maybe we should just avoid it altogether."

>>
>>27559765

I agree with this anon, I hate when a whole quest night is wasted on some afternoon outing with one side character.

Anyways, I was really against moving the Abigail relationship into the love interest category from "daughter" category. I still really think that our nature as a fucking Elemental should more or less preclude us from true human connection. I bow to the will of the players though, I'm just one voice in the crowd.

Abby and Shadow won't be seeing much of each other after this. Of course they'd want to spend time together, especially since it's the first downtime they've had for eachother since first leaving the Archonium. I wouldn't call it frivolous. It's perfectly in-character.

I miss the days when she was just our daughteru. I wanted us to be the father figure to a whole new city of rescued spirit and shadow mages. Aw well
>>
>>27559811
In-character and frivolous can perfectly align with shadow now that he's been tainted by humanity. It does make sense that they'd want to spend at least one day together.

Though the real reason why SM had that option there was so he could write something relaxing this early in the morning.
>Which is alright too, I guess.
>>
>>27559821
Damaged good fetish is fine too
>>
>>27559826
Wasn't the whole point of that conversation with Auriel that isolating ourselves to do all the shit because we're powerful a bad thing?

No real reason to freak out over one lapse in action.
>>
>>27559857
One-Lapse actions are the kind of things that made Abby lose her hand in the first place.
Thinking of doing something cool, rather than critical and planned.
SM's writing it now already as the action has been locked in, but this is something that we, as players, have to be aware of in meta. There is a certain responsibility that comes with being a world class mechanic.
>>
>>27559796
What?
>>
I still think Shadow/Abby's relationship can be father/daughteru. We just need to outvote/murder the waifu fucktards.
>>
>>27559806
>>27559818
Honestly, I'm fine with things they are. Abby was just a generic little girl who was kind of holding things back. SHe's much more of a character now as an adult and I feel I know her better. I'll always miss shadow puppet bed time stories but this is fine too.

>>27559886
What the does this have to do with any of that? This isn't "something cool" or anything. When I said lapes in action I was referring to the fact that we aren't in a terrible situation right now and we could afford a small amount of time for ourselves.
>>
>>27559700
On the one hand we should do some planning and preparation so we don't run into problems we faced in Xile again. But then again we won't be able to hang out with Abigail as we do now when she starts her education.
>>
>>27559907

Good point. It's not too late for Shadow to have some good judgment and pull away from real romance, even if we started moving in that direction.

I think in some ways a relationship with Abigail would be very unhealthy for her - for those of you who have read Watchmen, it would be just like dating Dr. Manhattan - a god that thinks like a man. A relationship like this could only hurt Abigail in the long run.
>>
>>27559907
Now now, I didn't like this choice either, but slinging names is the last think you'd want to do if you wanted to make a coherent argument against actions like that.

Better examples might include,
>The world moves on,
>We have responsibilities to Haven,
>Alliances could be smoothed over,
>Territories could be explored,
>We could fulfill that succubus promise to that Alchemist in Kelvere, assuming he got out.
>>
>>27559938
That kind of logic doesn't just apply to romance but in any kind of relationship though. How would that not affect a more familial relationship too? That's more saying that Shadow should just be alone more than anything.
>>
<...let's just get out of here,> you say to her. <A picnic sounds great.>

"Yeah. Let's."

You head down to the marketplace, Abigail at your side. She has a fun time picking and choosing fruits and freshly baked goods from the stalls and shops that line the underground plazas. You line the basket with more food than two people could possibly eat. But it really isn't about the food, you know - it's about the time.

You return to Fang's tower, and then go to his private dock. Abigail sets herself at the controls. "...I built them when I was in the Archonium," she says. "It was something I always remembered. With you, and my uncle, and Adavan, and Sir Flint. Sailing on the river."

You stay quiet. The craft lifts up into the air. Abigail flies it over the water for a time, then lands it on the bank. She hops it out away from the scholomance, into the grassy hills interspersed with rocky cliffs that mark the Azoth Highlands. Eventually, you settle on a bluff open to the winds.

The air is cold, and the grasses have browned from the change of seasons. Abigail focuses for a moment, and the air around you grows still and warm. With the temperature problem solved, it's just another peaceful day with bright blue skies.

Abigail samples the fruit at random. You eat a few of the pastries. They're sweet and flaky - quite good, actually. You eat a few more.

Abigail laughs. <What is it?> you ask.

"You've got crust all over you!" She brushes the bits of bread off your shoulder. "I guess you're a messy eater."

<I'm not very subtle about it.>

"You always take things literally. But I guess it's just part of the charm, huh?"

<If you say so.>

Abigail chuckles again, then lies back on the grass. She closes her eyes, leans back on the grass, and breathes the fresh air. You share a quiet moment like that for a long time.

>let the quiet be
>say something to her
>>
>>27559920
>This isn't "something cool" or anything.
>a small amount of time for ourselves.

You missed that it's a small amount of time with Abby, which is COOL. Because we haven't actually done anything together to further our relationship. Not agreeing with the guy you responded to, but this is pretty cool and I've been waiting a while for it.
>>
>>27559939

But a daughter figure who can temper our choices, who could guide our dominion over the entire world - that is something worth fighting for.

We need a Saint, and Abigail could be that Saint. A woman with a personal relationship with the God of Shadow.

No it isn't. He literally said that he was always intending for romance if we got the Humanity and even said the Archonium arc was planned since thread 12. There was really no romantic implications until he put them there himself back in the Archonium arc with Emperess Abby and the John vision.

Pic related happened right after Abby told Shadow she loved him and he said he loved her back after that bedtime story.
>>
<I don't know, Abby. Ever since I woke up, all that time ago, I've been reacting to things around me. I know that parts of me were once Erebus, and that he wanted to destroy this whole world. But why did he want that? How much of me is him?>

You sigh heavily. <If I was made for his plan - of destroying chaos - then what happens when the plan is done? What happens when there is no plan? I have no purpose. I think I know why Flint drinks those ignorance potions, sometimes.>

Abigail gives you a small smile at that, but it quickly fades away. "...I had no idea you thought like that, Shadow."

You nod to her. <I...it's always been like that. I want to know why everything has happened the way it has. There's things beyond demon lords and armies in play. Adavan mentioned that chaos itself is growing - that mages are increasing in frequency and power. What would the world look like if every human has the ability to move mountains? People already fight enough as it is. The world would crack in two. But erasing all of it clearly isn't the right answer.

<There's just too much I don't know. There's too much to do. Too many things need protecting. I'm not strong enough, and I can't be everywhere all at once. It's frustrating.> You thump the ground with a fist. <I just...want some peace and quiet, I think.>

You look at her. She's looking back, patiently listening to every word.

Screw your powergaming, let us have a human moment without OMG STATS LEVELING POWERLEVELIN.

Also, I think we want to stop antagonizing temerity. When he actively starts rebeling we're gonna get screwed to so hard.

Remeber, as we saw in the archonium, its possible to LOSE access to an entire tree.
he's already withdrawn plot armor - which we still haven't gotten back.

There was a good idea at the last of the thread - to talk him into being less of an inflexible twat.

If we're gonna strive for balance, we need to maintain it within ourselves.
That means resisting the urge to corrupt ALL our shards.

Honestly, I think that Temerity is like the Succubus. He is what he is, and no amount of talking or cajoling will get him to change. If we want access to our powers again, we should give him a Humanity treatment, or see about absorbing him into the whole.

Erebus initially created the shards because it was more efficient. Could we undo the process?

Abigail blushes. "Well, wait outside for a second, alright!" She pushes you out the door and slams it shut.

You head back inside. She's under the blankets of her bed, head exposed on the pillow. You can see the top of a fitted nightdress set on her shoulders. Apparently Fang planned of every eventuality. Or, knowing the effects of the Archonium, he'd planned that all along.

You use your hands to tuck in the blankets around her. She smiles. "Hmm. Better."

Sorry, Temerity

Does that account for our power total/pool growing as we bring more shards into the fold? It might be 3 now to trigger the alarm.
Or temerity controls the alarm, and chose not to trigger it.

Anyway! To clear up this confusion about temerity, imma post from the last thread.

>What we REALLY need to do is have a sit-down shut-up and listen talk with Temerity.
>Meditate on it, and tell him the ollowing, straight up.

>"As a being of order, you are way too set in your ways to even CONSIDER alternatives. You have a lifetime of war and unending hate for chaos to even consider the possibility that balance is possible."
>"Yet I know better. Judgement controls our actions, because I see the energies of Order manifesting in the souls of humans, the flow of our power polluting the very flow of the raw mana of this world to remake Erebus."
>"You whine and mewl about the corruption being a bad thing, but you have failed to realize it cuts both ways. "
>"If I can be affected, then the reverse is true. Period. You? You're a coward, too afraid to see if its possible, to risk changing your plans or tactics in light of new information. "
>"I agree that the rising problem of magic, chaos getting out of hand, feeing upon itself in a loop isn't a good thing. What I don't agree with are your intractable methods. "
>"You need to adapt to the situation at hand. Not I . YOU. You want to take the war to chaos? Fine.'
>"You can start by helping me come up with a plan to attack, control, possibly destroy its source. Not these piddly mages and creatures, golems and elementals you take offense to. "

>"I will not corrupt you, temerity. You are a link to my past, my true nature. But you are also a reminder that there are better ways than a one track mind. And I will show you its possible, if you stop acting like an attack dog and start acting like a general."
>"You want to strike against chaos? This is your chance to have input."

They won ages ago. I still find it hilarious that no one realizes this.

The actual romance may not have shown up until 70 or so threads in but the effect of waifu - the derailment of the plot in pursuit of a female character - happened within the first few threads. A large amount of Shadow's character only exists as it is because Abby was nice to him and he's managed to turn down pretty much every temptation to be an Evil Overlord(or even a regular Overlord) like SM originally intended mostly because his only major personal goal was her. Hell, if it wasn't for his ideals and the nature of his existence(and the role that existence plays in the setting) he probably would have fucked off to do just that a long time ago.

Shadow is a character who, at the end of day, really only wants to be with his Waifu and the only difference between him and his quest and any other MC/quest out there is that this all happened rather gradually and naturally to the point that most of the playerbase, despite containing the most vocal anti-waifu crowd outside of a QTG, didn't even really notice what was happening until SM hit you over the head with it in the Archonium arc. It was the climax to a relationship subplot that started in thread 2 that concluded with the beginning of a romantic subplot and reaffirmed something that you all should have realized fucking ages ago: that Shadow just wants to live with Abigail.

It's literally the exact same quest it's always been since thread 2. Shadow was supposed to be an Evil Overlord but instead he met a girl in a cemetery that he decided was more important than anything else.
>>
>>27561098

2 then 3

Because this is erebus, and not realizing what he's supposed to do at first, then going 'shit wrong target! is TOTALLY fitting.
>>
>>27561214
I purposely pretend to be a waifufag and then sometimes call myself a faggot. I was also the first person to roll a 1d1 in this quest, and I have been samefagging poor results since thread 22.

I got banned a few weeks ago for posting my home address and phone number, so I need to get back in the swing of shitposting
>>
>>27561239
I like this approach. Like the succubus, we need to give Temerity a chance before we give the solid "fuck you" to it.
>>
>you voted for this

---------
---------

You lean forward and kiss Abigail on the lips.

She seems hesitant, at first, but after a moment, she kisses you back.

And then you part.

"Um...g'night," Abigail murmurs.

<...goodnight.>

You leave the room and walk back down to the study. You pace for a few moments. Was that the right thing to do?

There's no one in the room but you and yourself. Easy answers to your relationship with Abigail elude you.

But as you sense Abigail's aura fade to a tiny glow as she falls asleep, your thoughts turn to your many responsibilities. The night is young.

What do you do now?

>humanize Isolation

You do realize that there's no "corrupting" temerity right?

That's bullshit he made up to talk down to the humanity shard, calling it corruption.
If we want our shadow power back, we're going to need to convert him. And if you noticed, by the implicit conversion of the shards, they haven't been utterly human things. They've been slightly more positive synonyms to what they were before; balanced, and no longer bent on destruction of the world.
At this point it would be out of character for Shadow to try to talk-down Temerity- who is the symbol of the path that we've chosen to discard.

>humanize Isolation

People are too caught up in their PERSONAL AGENDAS to contribute to the question in meaningful ways.

Hell, people have been admitting they stir shit up on purpose (>>27561202 ) and intentionally detract from the thread INTENTIONALLY.

The fact that you see it as an antagonist thing means you're kind of part of the problem.

Romance is not an inherently negative thing, it happens in stories all the time.

It just needs to be wielded properly and maturely.
>>
>>27561708
You do realize she's going to be out of the picture for a while running Archon right?

Honestly, this was the best time for romance to happen since she'll be out of the story a while.

Why hello barman andrews!

That doesn't hold up to reason, though. WE can change our mind, so can temerity. SM is a better writer than that, as he's repeatedly proven.

Temerity just doesn't WANT TO, because he doesn't respect us, or our judgement, and resents that we're in control.

It's not an antagonist thing. Romance isn't negative at all. It's just, all the people voting 'KISS HER AND GIVE HER THE SHADOWY TENTACLE DICK' outnumber people like me who don't want our deity-like, shadowmonster protagonist to start dicking things up. There's a very narrow line where romance would enhance things, most of you people don't want to walk this line.

Temerity is a giant child that refuses to think outside the box.

Diplomacy is ALWAYS backed up by the force of your armies, for when it breaks down.

He hasn't listened before because we didn't have anything that could hurt him.
Now that we have humanity though, we're a threat - and while we COULD use it to reforge him, it may work better as a carrot-stick to force him to change voluntarily.

Alright motherfuckers, Imma lay out why you're all stupid as shit and why you're actively killing Shadow Quest.

Because you argue.

You argue on for fucking ever and it takes up a lot of space because you feel the need to shout your opinions at people, because by Jove, you've earned the right to be an indignant piece of human refuse.

I'm not only talking about waifu-ers and anit-waifu-ers, I'm talking about all you idiots.

Here's the thing, this is the internet, just because the majority has voted against something you dislike doesn't mean that you shouting why they're wrong is going to change their votes.

The only arguing you guys should be doing here, is in the form of your votes. Getting up on your high horse of opinions on why shit sucks is just cluttering up the thread.

If you feel such a huge need to shove your e-penis in people's faces, then wait until the thread ends and argue as much as you want then.

As for proxy voters, you guys are perhaps even worse filth than the incessant argumentative types which plague SQ. You're literally ignoring the multiple choice narrative in favor of your own opinions because you think you know what's best.

This has been my only non-vote or speculation post in the entire duration of SQ.

I pray I never make another one.
>>
You push forward, but Temerity resists your power.

<I think not.>

>mana: 29/29
>the base power of all Shadow magic is now halved

<There can be no more compromise with corruption,> Temerity says. <When you require guidance to the remaining shards, call upon me. Otherwise, I have nothing for you, Judgement.>

You snap back to the present. The sun is an hour in the sky outside the window of Yi Fang's study.

Sounds on the stairs draw your attention. You tense - but it's just Abigail. She's wearing an orange dress. Her hair is done up in a tight bun, held with a single pin, in the typical Archonian fashion.

She stops when she sees you. You look at each other, then away, then back, then away again. You're not quite sure what to say.

"...morning," Abigail says.

<Good morning.>

"I...uh...slept very well."

<Me too. Well, I didn't sleep, exactly.>

"Right. You don't sleep."

<Right.>

"Must get boring."

<Sometimes.>

She rubs the back of her neck. "I guess...we should wait for..." She trails off. You turn in the direction she's looking. Yi Fang's sun-like spirit is rapidly approaching the tower.

<I think we'll have more of a schedule for today,> you say.

"Yeah."

While I like your comparison, I have to disagree with you.
Everyone points to the shards, the parts of erebus and going 'lolno can't negotiate plz lol'.
The thing is, they're shards. Parts, incomplete wholes.

Temerity is the only other shard who's Driven The Erebus Bus. Who's had to deal with inputs from other shards, form decisions.
His whole plan to subvert the elemental lords and destroy from within? That REEKS of silence.
And you know what silence is? Its NOT TEMERITY.

Temerity is one of the prime shards, something more than just a minor statthing (remember how SM said the whole Isolation thing was impromptu expansion of the story due to 100's and player input?)
Yeah. temerity was put into stats - the whole humanity/temerity struggle - from the beginning of the thread.
he's something more than just a simple one minded shard.
As a former driver, he knows what its like to make decisions.

That fact is at odds with your cyoa-adventure comparison. What he WANTS and what he's willing to do to get it are two entirely different things
>>
>>27562021
Thanks for the thread, SM. My favorite part had to have been Abby making Shadow realize his own responsibilites. She grew up a little faster than him, it seems.

I can't say I have much of an opinion on the romantic turn though. I've always felt that Abby and Shadow's relationship, undefined as it was, already fulfilled the role of "love redeems" quite nicely; so any conclusion was just going to be tying up loose ends and not much else. It's already fulfilling it's narrative role so this is just extra.

Well regardless, any conclusion would have been awkward but this is awkward as it gets. . Probably a good thing she's going to be out of the story to help out with Archon. Pretty good move on your part as it also lead to that responsibility talk from above.

Whole thing's probably been handled the best it could. Too bad a lot of people are too busy being angry to really think about that.

>>
>>27562162

No, i'm saying auriel was the training course for pursuasion.

Like temerity, she is also a shard of a dead god that is incredibly set in her ways. (SHADOW EVIL! SMASH CHAOS EVIL SMASH). There are a lot of similiarities in mannerisms, attitude.

You're forgetting that auriel took many, many threads of pursuasion, expanding her horizons, exposure to ideals that aren't the same old oppressive angelic dogma.

You haven't even started with temerity. You refuse to try. Every time its just whining about why it won't work repeatedly, instead of our usual 'Fuck it, we're gonna do the impossible!' attitude.

You're a pretty shitty judgement if you don't bother to judge, and just enforce your edict on the world through sheer force of 'haha try and stop Order' - and as we've found out that shit doesn't fly when we have allies to think about.

If you took the same approach to Temerity that we took to Auriel, he'd stop dicking us over.
I'll remind you that took a lot of reinforcement, persuasion, and SHOWING over a long period of time. Its something that doesn't happen instantly.

Nothing I write is meant to give you the middle finger. At times, writing about failure can be satisfying - see the time you rolled a nat 1 back in the library at Evinbrook - but this has never been player vs QM.

If that was the case, you'd already be dead. I play to win.
>>
>>27562214
I was just remembering when we tried to talk to the robots, and you said in the meta that that would have been impossible.
>>
>>27562214
>People are personally involved in the quest. When it doesn't go their way, they're going to be upset. That's how it is; I don't think anything I can say can change that.

I get that. But i think my core issue with it is when the 'fairness' of a community game is taken away.
Like, i get being outvoted. that's fine. But when it gets cheated to go one way or the other, that's just unfair to everyone.

As an added layer to that, when people try to make it go the intentionally worst way, it just confuses the issue and makes it worse all around - but it exacerbates it, not the root cause.

The fact that you're going through so many hoops to justify your argument means your choices aren't logically supported by the consistency of the setting.

The shards, the shadow elementals, the demons, the robots, programmed entities.
You need to realize that sometimes things are exactly as simple as they seem to be. Especially when they state it is so themselves, as the shards have, as the demons have, and as Temerity had told us during our first meeting.
If you can't see that, it means you haven't been reading in between the lines enough to gain insight on the events we've actually made it through.

You're silly.

>If you have a suggestion, I'm all ears.

Frankly, you may want to lift the limitation on the 'How To Vote Properly' thing.

With the new one minute post time, a shorter window before the vote closes should cut down on vote stacking - and without loss of pace if you let people throw their votes in with the other things they're talking about.

It doesn't take a LOT of extra effort to parse 'yes/no' from a block of text.
Why did you have this 'vote in a particular manner or it won't count' rule, anyway?
Was it to cut down on identical responses being spammed from the same computer?
>>
>>27562252

Well, yes, but you can't just spontaneously speak a language you don't know. There's a difference between a good plan to tackle something within the realm of possibility and something that's outright impossible.

>>27562255

I don't think there's a way of absolutely ensuring that voting is secure without drastically slowing the pace of the quest. If you think there is, post about it, I'll look into it.

>>27562265

Because they're bad motherfuckers.

PEACE OUT

Yes.

Might want to back up this thread somewhere since it may get purged.

Good night, SM

if we were to say purchase Machina Loqui, would we theoretically be able to use our new robo language skills to track down the robots and either talk them into a loophole where they take us to the real Steward or simply reprogram them. There by adding awesome robot armies to our forces and perhaps even using them to somehow analyze ourselves and fuck Temerity in a similar fashion as Micheal did to us with his sparky pain machine?

Are you okay? It feels like your recent writing seems fatigued. I still enjoyed today's story though.

It's up on sup/tg/.

It's currently on -1 after 35 votes, stay classy /tg/.

>If you have a suggestion, I'm all ears.
>People are personally involved in the quest. When it doesn't go their way, they're going to be upset. That's how it is; I don't think anything I can say can change that.

I think the forum suggestion has merit, honestly. Its not a POPULAR one, but that doesn't mean its inherently bad.

If the playerbase is as dedicated as you think, they will follow you there. That's a given. Oh no, making a name like 'sqanon' and posting in a different place when the twitter calls goes out is such a hastle

But at the same time, the environment condusive to intentional derailing, vote stacking, and general shitting up the quest just isn't present in a forum environment.

In addition, having the ability to use longer posts and character limits actually opens up the avenue for debate on good actions beyond oneliners of 'lol that'd dumb, do this.'

it allows the WHY to be discussed in detail, as well as just what do decide to do.

You can even dedicate a thread to each session to maintain the minigame feel.

Anyway, just a thought. You keep urging us to play smarter, but isn't conducive to it.

>I don't think there's a way of absolutely ensuring that voting is secure without drastically slowing the pace of the quest. If you think there is, post about it, I'll look into it.

Well. what i was suggesting was a two-part system.

The regular one you have now for snap decisions/combat time/quickresolution, and a more secure one for bigger overarching things that can doom us or have big impacts by choosing poorly

Anyway, browse through some House and Dominion quests on the archive to see what i mean.

>>27562349
Yes, and threads in the negative eventually get purged from the archive. It's a precaution.

I know it's on foolz too but that isn't as easy to navigate.

Still recovering from illness.

Strongly, strongly reacted to cold/flu medication in a way I didn't expect. Only got two hours of sleep, while sick. That's why I didn't run yesterday.

I'm never taking multi-symptom stuff again. Shit practically made me trip. Could hardly eat lunch because it made me so nauseous.

Haven't had a day off in two weeks.

Yeah, guess I'm tired.

>>27562374

thread saved just in case

man that's a lot of butthurt

>>27562351

I feel like I've written too far on /tg/ to switch formats now. I like it here. I like the community. Sometimes people take things a bit too seriously and it sets off an argument.

Maybe with Edgy Quest? I dunno.

'night all

>>27562374

This can be solved pretty easily by adding the thread ID to the story summary/episode guide pastebin

If you have the thread ID, its super easy to jump around on foolz. I use to check threads that have fallen off the board while i was at work all the time

all my yes
<Remember Micheal, we agreed that he needed to be dealt with regardless of the circumstances. And in truth all that hate was from only a few days spent with a stranger..... imagine if the culprit was of a more intimate even personal nature Temerity>

look at what you arguetards did
now edgy quest will be run on mlp or bay12 forums or reddit or some shit.
truly, this is the worst of days.

I'm not sure I'd go that far, SM :(

Still, i'd encourage you to at least explore some options with changing it up.

I'm curious what edgyquest is, but good night!

Your body is trying to purge the flu medicine I think.
Try to eat something that improves liver function like eggs or broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, and Brussels sprouts.
