As the thread title says: Storytime, /tg/.

Recently, we played a campaign set in not-France. Sort of a Three Musketeers kind of vibe, lots of courting and city adventures. To give more context, my love interest was this noble girl I'd rescued when she was being hassled by brigands.

The bad guy in question, for this instance, was this older duelist guy who had his own adventuring company. We later found out he was part of a devil's conspiracy, et cetra.

I'll point out that he wasn't even a pretty boy, he was an older guy in somewhere around his early forties. But he was basically a rich jerk with high Charisma, and he had a way with the ladies.

My character's love interest started making eyes at one of the bad guys, and it got worse when the party's female PC Sorceress actually slept with him in a one-off fling. That guy got on my nerves.

The most maddening thing was that he never got upset, or took a hint from guys. Like, I pretty much flat-out told him: "I like that girl." but it didn't stop him from hitting on the PC Sorceress or the noble girl or the elf novitate that was the paladin's girlfriend.

What was especially infuriating was that he took the latter hostage at one point, and she actually encouraged her dad to pay the ransom. We did go in to rescue her, but it turned out she'd already been released, and we were headed into a trap that involved volley-firing crossbowmen and an Iron Golem.

Anyway, we eventually cornered him, and after the requisite hack-and-slashing, he surrendered to me specifically. The problem is, he HAD to get the last word in, and he said something like:

> "I suppose I've lost, but we still know who the better man is. I surrender: After all, I'm hoping to see (GIRLNAME) again."

That's when I coup de graced that smug fucker. That guy annoyed the FUCK out of me, even more than the big devil thing that was the final boss.
>>
>>27514961

Oh, I'll point out: My love interest actually told me

> "I know you have to stop him, but...Please, try not to kill him. I don't want to see him hurt."

That guy got on my nerves. He really, really made me uncomfortable, because that felt weirdly unpleasant. That's why, even when he surrendered, I chopped him in half.

SO HE WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE WOMEN, because holy christ that shit is not right. It gives you a very crawly, unpleasant feeling.

Anyone else had villains like that? Because that guy, to me, was infinitely more personal than the big devil-thing that was the final boss.
>>
>>27514961

Kudos to your DM.
>>
>>27514961

I wish my players got so involved in campaigns. Most of them just MURDERHOBO their way through everything, and never stop to care about anything beyond gold and XP.
>>
The DM requested detailed backstories for our characters, mine involved a guy kind of inspired by the Butcher from Gangs of New York who betrayed the gang my character was a part of because they would not play ball with his big, "can you count suckas!?!" united gang.

DMPC killed him in single combat.

The villain was the DM.
>>
>>27514961
We had one BBEG who always made it personal. Thing was, he was an immature man child. After the barbarian killed his lieutenant, his idea if personal was slipping a note under the door which said Faggot.
Since he was a low wis/int guy, he took it as a mortal insult and swore vengeance. It all ended with the barbarian grabbing his hand and yelling "stop hitting yourself!"
>>
>>27514961

Our campaign was a riff on the 08th MS Team from Gundam. There was a single enemy Mobile Armour operating behind our lines, attacking convoys and so on, called the 'White Ogre'.

It was armed with energy weapons, and a nuclear reactor: So it could function nearly indefinitely. It would level entire convoys and basically was a roving terror.

We eventually managed to lure it into an artillery barrage, and took it out with a well-timed rocket. As it turned out, the pilot was actually a cute girl, who was in fact crippled. But we were so pissed-off at her, we incinerated her in the cockpit with a flamethrower.
>>
>>27514961
>>27514969
I'm actually playing this guys archetype in a villains game.
Only it would have actually ended far, far worse since my character is a worshiper of the demon queen of suicide and charms girls more to break their hearts than because he likes them. I'm planning to make it very personal when the NPC heroes get in our way.

Your GM sounds awesome, good on him.
>>
>>27514961
I think I might be someone else's villian. In a homebrew Mek-ton setting my character is from a noble family and another player is from a serf family.

My character has a sister who is a singer (under a fake name so she can sing about how much it sucks to be poor with out coming off as a hypocrite.) that the serf player starts a romance with. A big focus of the game has been on the romance and my character's effort to ruin it,. Everyone else has their big parts too, from the officer playing military politics to the new guy trying to fit in with the squad.

Awesome DM has been playing for years and only DMed twice.
>>
>>27514961
>>27514969
You got a great DM, and you are good players for playing actual characters with flaws and desires.

>>27515060
Oh wow this is great.

>>27515062
War knows no age or gender.

Considering that the most common thing among PCs when encountering something that turns them on is too try to convert it (even in those cases that it's obviously pure evil), I'll applaud your merciless humanity.
>>
>>27515138

> I'll applaud your merciless humanity.

Yeah, we were tempted to help the pretty girl, but you know what? We had a devil of a time chasing her down. That Mobile Armour mounted merciless guerilla attacks, turned up at the worst possible moments, and had a bodycount numbering in triple digits.

Also, it was incredibly fast, shrugged off anything less than a tank shell, and had great pincer claws that shredded Mobile Suits in melee. I mean, holy shit.
>>
As a DM I find it helps to have the villain swipe things from the players.

Holy shit, those characters get on my nerves too. The worse part is, it's also kind of realistic, because girls often prefer bad guys. And what is the hero going to do?

>DM pulls a similar situation on me.
>My character is a knight who values loyalty and will strength over anything. Maybe you are commiting some crime, but if you think you are on the right and are not doing it out of pure egoism, he'll spare you and give you an opportunity to redeem yourself.
>Character brother betrays the kingdom, lured by the promise of power of an enemy empire.
>Turns out my character's to-be-bride was seeing him in secret, even though my character was described from the beginning as a really great guy who treated her with respect and love, and the brother was already married and was an asshole to everyone.
>She runs off with him.
>This serves as plothook for my PC to join the party, looking for the traitor.
>Finally find him.
>Defeat him in single combat (even though he ambushed us several times).
>Bride comes out of hiding, grabs PC's arm when he is going to give the last strike.
>"Please, don't kill me, I love him!"
>Party looks at me.
>"Don't touch me, slut."
>Half the brother's body ends up in Constantinople because lol crit.
>Ex-bride covered in her lover's blood, falls unconscious.
>She enters a convent as punishment by her family.
>My PC solicits the king that he may go in peniten pilgrimage to atone for the sin of murdering his own brother, even though he was a traitor.
>Join the party.

Since some people seem to have liked this character, I could tell some more moments of similar thematic of the same character.

You see, my DM likes to push my buttons (not to piss me off IRL, but because everybody at the table always says the awesomest moments are when I've had enough bullshit from an NPC). And he does very well, because he knows what makes me rage.

Shadowrun game.
(One of a number of) BBEG is a drug-lord pimp ogre. Not only the race, also his behaviour. He's wildly mysogynistic, brutal, torturous (is that a word?) and murderous. Paranoid, but short-tempered and when he gets angry, shit gets real.
He and one of the characters (rather young female street samurai / face type) have history. She worked for him once, they split up, he took it as a betrayal. Dude gets a hate boner for her. Follows her career through the scuttlebutt, but can't grasp her. Starts fucking with her friends to draw her out. Metaphorical blows are traded over several months. He stabs her through the heart once, leaves her for dead. Learns of her continued existence and takes it (again) personally. They meet in his penthouse, with a quivering lump of meat on display on a tarpaulin. She recognizes the almost-corpse as an NPC, one she saved once, loose friend. Deals are struck, PC is chained to bed, her eyes are scooped out with a rusty knife. NPC dies anyways.
Oh, has she now motivation to take this guy out. It's slated to happen in a few sessions and all players are psyched.
Shit, yes, it's personal ^^

I have lurked on /tg/ for almost 2 months and not posted one single thing, but for whatever reason I read this and could not stop laughing.

I am GM'ing a campaign soon, was hoping for ideas on how to make things personal with some PC's, really want them to hate the BBEG.

Was thinking of giving a particularly business-minded rogue a shop sometime in the future and then maybe disrupting some of his trade? Ideas?

In a homebrew RPG I was playing based on MtG with some friends, my character was a knight who'd recently gained a spark, being the rookie in the party as far as traversing planes or casting spells went but better at actual fighting than the others. I played him as being stoic but completely out of his depth on the inside, as just following his new friends anywhere meant something would cross their path that challenged everything he knew about the world.

A fairly unimportant artificer NPC was killed about midway through the quest, leaving behind his Myr assistant. My character, still a little fuzzy on whether or not Artifact Creatures could think, took the Myr with him. The DM had it be artificially intelligent enough to write on a little board it carried around, but it just wrote "Myr" when my character asked its name, so that was what my Knight called him. ("an ape named Ape" jokes, yadda yadda)

The Myr wasn't very strong or programmed to be all that bright, but it was a trooper and became sort of a mascot for the group, helping out with minor but useful things like sneaking in to get a key or making a distraction, and saved my Knight's life on one occasion by throwing me a sword when a demon had me on the ropes.

Myr was Shattered by the BBEG, a real nasty red mage who fancied himself an artist, purely out of spite. My character lost his cool for one of the few times in the campaign thus far and tried to decapitate the guy then and there, but he had another Shatter prepared, used it on my sword, and curb-stomped me before fleeing.

When we caught up to him, I'd leveled twice and become quite a bit more proficient as a caster. I think the GM knew what was coming, but he had the BBEG deliberately go after my character again, taunting me while casting a spell to bulk himself up and increase his speed in anticipation of me going for a swordfight again.

>"VINDICATE."
>Nat 20

By the game's rules? Not even dust left behind.
>>
>>27522549
I don't Magic. Elaborate?
>>
>>27522628
Myr are cute and fit well as sidekick characters.
Villain fucked with his familiar essentially.

So he nuked him.

Fluff-wise, look at the flavor text on the version he posted, the older version had a named character sacrifice himself to destroy the airship that had been hounding the party.
Barring that, just look up the word 'vindicate.'
>>
>>27522628

In Magic, Vindicate is a spell that will kill absolutely anything you can aim it at, no questions asked. Including planeswalkers, who are in the lore one step down from the players themselves (although more spells that can kill them outright have been printed lately.)

In the homebrew, Vindicate was a once-a-day spell with a high failure chance. If it succeeded (14+ on a d20), the target needed to roll a high save or die instantly unless they were a. indestructable through magic or equipment, or b. able to counter it. A lot of giant monsters in the setting had the ability to avoid being targeted by spells like that or could regenerate the damage enough that it stunned them instead, but in mage-to-mage combat it was the strongest one-shot in the game.

On a 20, however, no save is allowed, and the caster's target is atomized where they stand.

The campaign had some balance issues since a lot of it was made from scratch by the GM, but it was pretty fun.

So there was an Exalted Quest in this forum I go to, basically the setting was in a (hilariously dangerous) top-tier high school for dragonblooded (our term project was murdering our way though the top gangs in the city because we were the only ones who could stealth, they also had dragonblooded at their call) as a fucking (absolutely insane, 'dedicated' doesn't even begin to describe him) mortal of all things.

But that's beside the point, the point is that Anys Syn showed up, kidnapped our dragonblooded girlfriend (one of the few there who would give us the fucking time of day) to act as a fucking baby rape factory to this guy we absolutely hated (him nearly killing her in an earlier tournament match didn't help things) because of plot reasons, killing our mentor in the process and having the nerve to say that it was for all our own good.

Needless to say, when that Infernal Exaltation showed up, we gobbled it down like a fucking starving dog on meat. And then we proceeded to unanimously optimise ourselves towards killing the fuck out of her.

We eviscerated her.

It was very satisfying.

One thing to note was that she was badly weakened by some cataclysm that took out the Sidereals. We were pretty broken for a beginner, even for a Solaroid, with us getting 10 charms straight off the bat via exp we banked previously, along with the entire Wood Dragon style using a modified Dynasty charm from our mentor, but that still wasn't going to even remotely let us toss up against an Elder Sidereal without her suffering some serious nerfs.
>>
>>27530731
Also, we used her torn-out heart to help fuel the creation of our Artifact 5 starmetal sword.

That was almost as satisfying as actually killing her.
>>
>>27530790
Go on.
>>
Here's a story.
Online group, had a new guy show up claiming he wanted to DM something big, he understood the rules but wanted to try and give our group an actual challenge some of us were up for it but I showed up too late to get involved in it.

So the quest start was that the villain decided to sneak around and have some henchmen kidnap a love interest and some family members of the guild.
Cliche of course but people just wanted something different.

So basically most of the heavy hitters of the guild rallied themselves together with a good strike to break into the villain's castle and break them out.

Almost a complete Total Party kill, everyone just kept getting bad roll after bad roll, two people were captured, one person was completely brought down to near death and had even lost a limb or three before he was chosen to be sent back as an example. The only one who escaped unhurt was a Rogue who ran when things went south for them.

As for the rest, the ones who were captured were murdered by the family members they were sent to rescue who had fallen under the control of the villain.

Thankfully the last group were planning to reroll anyway so they were okay with the loss but it was completely personal after that.
>>
A villain in my campaign basically killed all the families of the Player Characters over five in game years. They hated him so much by the end that one player sacrificed himself just to put the bastard down.
>>
I have a transexual lich villian that has killed two of the PCs parents. Next game he is going to kill the npc cook they picked up five levels ago. I'm still looking for a way to make it extra vile and disturbing.
>>
>>27534588
>transsexual
But why
>>
Once one of the recurring lieutenant of the BBEG, after having defeated us, burned my spellbook in front of my eyes.
I bargained my soul to hire fiendish hitmans to sterminate "every individual whom he either share bloodties or ever felt friendship, love or affection for".
The fact is, we where being spared due to the fighter being his son, so it kinda sucked when waking up in the middle of the night we found the corpse of our fighter with "the contract has been sealed" written on his forehead
>>
>>27519526
>Was thinking of giving a particularly business-minded rogue a shop sometime in the future and then maybe disrupting some of his trade? Ideas?

The BBEG opens a shop across the street and is infinitely more successful.

He also likes to subtly rub it in your face by coming over to offer discounts, make small-talk (since the shop practically runs itself) about all the awesome leisurely activities he can do with his wealth, and recommending they possibly merge.

When the rogue inevitably breaks in and trashes the place, have the locals get incredibly upset at the action; it's like the mom and pop store got looted! Have them also idly wonder where else they could go, completely oblivious to the rogue's store until it's explicitly mentioned.

>>
>>27514961

I now firmly believe that the greatest BBEGs are not the ones with the most vile plans or highest body counts, but the ones that are either admired by people close to the party or expect the party to keep from harming them for one reason or another.

>>27535140
Well, there's always the old standby of chef stew.
>>
>>27514961
Your writing style is weird, my friend. Good campaign though, you should be giving credit to the DM. It takes observation to get under someone's skin like that, especially while running a game.
>>
Not really a villain, but my DMPC for the party is a brash and uncouth barbarian who, for whatever reason, absolutely hates elves. What really makes it funny is that my wife plays an elf druid. So he's constantly calling her racial slurs and challenging her to combat. But she's too much of a pansy to take the bait; the rest of the party keep telling her that they need him and that he's awesome.

Also happens that his pagan Storm-God was eaten by Baphomet, and he's been offering prayers to the Prince of Beasts since before the campaign started. More to the point, it's unlikely that he would care who answers his prayers anyway. So, yeah.]

What really infuriates her is that I've literally told her that I wanted him to die, since we have a melee fighter now and there's no reason to keep him around. But the rest of the party loves him, so she's just gonna have to come to terms with him IC or fight him.

Not every Chad. The campaign we just wrapped up had a total Jersey Shore fratboy Chat who was honestly capped out on the awesome meter. Had no combat ability or anything, just a friendly dude with way too much beer to share with us neighborhood watch turned Breaking Bad/mercenaries.

And this is still on-topic, since after our gigantic shootout/heist, we discovered the BBEG had killed him.

I ended up killing her, then our Empire enrolled her kingdom as a vassal state. The kid was young enough not to know/remember anything so I brought him to a foster family elsewhere - I didn't want my wife to find out about him.

My last character got killed that way. Nobody else lost jackshit and my character lost his most prized possession. Had to hunt after it solo, got a crit on my search roll, and a crit fail on "detect the knife about to ventilate your rib cage" another crit fail on the constitution check, and the rest of the group didn't bat a fucking eye, because they were busy trying to stop the unintelligible bulk from rampaging through a fine diner 8 miles away. I think the waiter bumped into him when he opened the door.

Kill the kid. If you can get away with it, kill him on the spot, in front of her.
