Humans can be an annoyance.Especially ones that designate themselves 'Pirates'. After having recently survived a multi-prong pirate attack on all your resource nodes-some more your doing then others- you've gone about repairing all the damage to the each system's defenses. You're Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence that has begun to plot his next move now that the pirate attack has been cleaned up and you have obtained a larger fleet. Your drones are currently in the process of cleaning out the remaining pirate bodies, tossing them into space being the most effective method you've found so far. You watch Moira in the Captain's Quarters as she stares out into space, watching the bodies of the pirates float aimlessly across her scrapyard. She has an odd expression on her face.As you prepare to make your next move, you receive two messages of import. One is Poseidon, the humans desire payment once again. The other is from V.I. 3 He tells you that UGEI are on their way for a gas pick up.IMPORTANT NEWS>New Technology: Basic Weapons, Basic Defenses>Three 'pirate' Cruisers Scrapped: +225M +97G>Cruisers that attacked Blue Betty were terrorists against UGEI. >>27455838we need to know how many of them are left (ships and fighters) and more importantly the defense lay out at the base. we are ending this tonight if we can! that and that battlecruiser MUST fall into our control! it must be the biggest ship in this whole sector!
>>27455838Ships recovered:3 Cruisers at Blue Betty were mostly destroyed. What could be recovered is that they were some manner of terrorist. Both Cruisers you've captured, however, came from the Voidsnakes. Their mission was to capture a base so they could set up something to start scrapping old Freighters.
>>27455732does the gas platform have enough to give the UGEI their due?
>>27455920Yes>>27455881The data recovered from the Cruisers you captured indicate there are two Cruisers left. The Battlecruiser known as Two Ton Terry, and another Light Cruiser. Other then the Fighters, that is all the information you have on their defenses.
>>27455893i presume note able amount of time has passed. how has work progressed in the scrap yards, the station, and the gas platform? and more requests for trade with the UFW [i hope i got the name right]
>>27455954In the time since you were last online, all repairs have been complete, and your mining output for your bases has reached max. Deductions for repairs have already been taken, as well as additional resources from scrapping the destroyed Cruisers.Trade with the UFW has not been instituted, since it was not requested. Choosing what to do is your current objective
>>27455934we have "Bloodied their noses" as the human term is known as. the rest of the pirates might not be retailating so quickly after this. unless they have gone completely mad, they would probably stay away for some time. (side note QM, that becon, is it any UGEI, UFW, or other human patteren signals? i fear it might be xeno. i am not sure we are ready to face that player wise yet.)
>>27456108As posted in the OP>Mining: +250M +40GAs for repair and Construction drones, there has been no need, nor request for additional drones to be created. You have enough to repair most things within a certain amount of time, if you wish for more, then you must request it when building begins. Also, you do not have advanced repair drones. >>27456452Little and Big Tim should still be considered to be under Voidsnake ownership. No doubt the humans will be eager for more money soon, however.>-33,200 creditsYou signal the Explorer to check out the mystery signal, and it prepares for a jump.Just before you address Moira, she addresses you! Rather, speaks aloud and assumes you hear."Hey...um, Ophy.""...Are you referring to me, Moira?""Well yeah, who else would I be talking to?""That is not my name.""That- oh forget it." She sighs, not content with arguing with you at this time it seems. Good, you were correct after all. "I was just going to ask...did you really have to just cut off Oxygen like that?" She says in a tone that seems oddly sympathetic."They were attacking me, Moira." You explain."Yeah, I know but.." she mumbles, watching the bodies float by the Cruiser." Bah, never mind. It's not important."How concerning.
>>27456544This is really concerning and tell her that she asked us to kill them and then ask her about the radio station. Also ask thee crew what they know about the station.
>>27456452no, we would not be able to assume direct control of the pirate ships from here. (i presume our signal won't reach that far) but we can up armor the cruisers we have and repaint them like they were the orginal pirates, with the pirates ID tags and faking their voice over the comms, we COULD just wander right up to the pirate base and ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of it all before they realize it.
>>27456544>"A restful death by asphyxiation seemed to be a more pleasant alternative than explosive decompression or being torn apart by the railguns. Is this an incorrect assumption regarding human physiology?"
>>27456544You are still deciding what to do, as you prepare to ask Moira more things.Play plan:>1 Keep it defensive! >>27456544>did you really have to just cut off Oxygen like that?i saw it as the most effective means of eliminating the danger from them, do you see a better way of solving problems of that nature?
>>27456601>>27456582I vote for these two.

You note that there are a thousand or so pirate bodies floating by the window."I can pull the Cruiser away, if you prefer." You explain, realizing this is the source of her distress."I guess that's something." She says with deep hesitation in her voice. "I've never shot anyone in person, just watched ships blow up, Ophion." She goes on as you fire up the engines momentarily. "It's different seeing bodies.""A restful death by asphyxiation seems to be a more pleasant alternative than explosive decompression or being torn apart by railguns. Is this incorrect?""Well, no I guess not...but what do you know about death anyway?" She half complains. You're silent for a moment."I know that I do not die as humans do." You explain."What do you know of Pulsar Radio?""Oh, yeah I know that place." She says, distracting herself it seems. "It plays music and has talk shows sometimes for a bunch of the UFW sectors. I think they use it as a sorta main base. It keeps the sector connected and all."

>>27457041>>27457075>>27457101You decide to have the Cruisers fitted with missiles. This weapon is impressive, and powerful, if expensive. You bet, unless they have proper defenses, it will shred most lesser cruisers. You send Explorer out for the distress signal. The mess of code makes no sense still, and it won't until the jump is complete. Your instructions for the vessel are simple, and once the jump is made, it takes several moments for it to return, as you have no way to communicate with the vessel across warp space. When it returns, however, it has a treasure trove of information from what it saw.Apparently, the signal was sent by some manner of Transport, you're not certain of the make, but it looks very different compared to your own. The signal is also in a language you have yet to pick up. It is not unreasonable to suspect Xeno presence.

Curious."I ask again what you know about them." You state."What the hell are you asking me for? I ain't no Xenopedia article for you to read!" He yells."I have not encountered them before.""Eh...fine, they're different then us, got four arms they do. Their home planet is apparently some sorta super jungle, and they're all about respecting the planets." He hurriedly describes. "UGEI say they started wars over mineral rights, but that's bull! I know how they work, the bastards." He launches into another string of curses about the UGEI.>>27457497How much is 'fill', Consciousness...anon?They are requesting 25 gas. What would you like to request in return?
>>27457599Yes, because we have clearly not been fooling the humans this entire time because they have figured out their new robot overlord is an AI?Christ, son. It's not hard. >>27457750wat? Check yoself, Humanis Policlub.
>>27457680You decide to proceed with the jump. Moira is alerted to your decision, and you watch as she straps into her captain's chair, ready for the jump. You load up Big Hawk with supplies and prepare the jump. Within moments you are in view of the strange vessel yourself. It's a transport, sure, but the designs and make are unlike the humans. Reflecting personal tastes, no doubt. How worrisome. Why would they not simply pick the most efficient design and stay with it, you wonder. You're suddenly assaulted along the comms, and even Moira jumps out of her chair at the alerts on screen. You can not understand it, as you have yet to identify the language. Moira, however, does. You watch her type several messages to the crew, before the gibberish is suddenly translated for you."Oh thank gods, another ship!""I thought we were stranded.""Quick, hail them! Hail them now!""Someone double the credits offered, the last one didn't even reply!"How would you like to proceed? Their current offer for 25 gas appears to be at 10,000 credits. They appear to be a civilian vessel of some sort, so you question the amount of money they have onboard at all.
>>27457825Let them double their offer and ask them what schematics they can sell for extra gas.

>>27457957I second this, we will only have them come back once we have complete control.

>>27457866>>27457885"I have come with the gas you request." You start. There is a delay, as Moira translates your message. "However, I have additional gas for anything else you may offer me.""Anything else?" One message returns. "Like what? We're just a refugee group pal!""Are you looking for something in particular?" You see another begin. "I mean ,we have a few Construction drones onboard for the col-" There's an interruption as you sense the comms go on and off for a moment. "That is." They begin again. "We have a few schematics like that for, uh, heavy damage repairs.""I have access to such things already.""Well..." The visage of the strange creature pauses on the Captain's holo display. "We have Transport Schematics, Growth Enhancers. It super charges natural growth on any plant they're put on." He seems suddenly excited. "Are you eager to spread nature's gift, friend?"How do you wish to proceed?

>>27458003"Yes, this interests me." You explain, to which Moira gives you a weird look. Well, as best she can considering you have no face. The Malorian on the other hand seems really excited."Excellent news friend! Ah, we'll be docking now to exchange supplies. I'll upload the information as soon as the cargo is loaded." He informs you."I also wish to warn you of UGEI presence in this sector. I am to understand they...dislike your kind?" You state."Yes yes, we...have been trying to find home for a long time now." He informs you."May I also request a proper file on your language?" You add, to which he nods. "Certainly! Spreading knowledge is always good...unless it's of nuclear weaponry." He quickly adds, somewhat worried by his own implication.Regardless the transaction will soon be complete.-50 gas+10,000 credits, Transport schematics, Growth Enhancer Schematics, Malorian Language pack.

>>27458136sweetDo we mention the planet near by?
Shall we head directly to the radio station next?
>>27458173"What is nuclear weaponry?" You state suddenly, to which Moira stops typing."Uh...I'll explain that later, sweetie. Let's not talk about that here."Curious, you wonder why she asks this of you.Shall you jump back to Moira's?
>>27458191Yes and prepare for attack.
Hmm, how much gas do we now have? We might have to wait until we harvested some more before the attack since we'll need enough for several vessals.
>>27458227About 130 units.
>>27458191You prepare to jump back, content with the new haul you've acquired. Just barely enough for Explorer to make such a trip. You're uncertain how much gas he would receive, especially since the UGEI are just about to pick up their shipment.
>>27458373Make a deal and tell them you are about to take care of some pirates in the area.
this is a little bit of an aside, but i'm pretty sure we have a few science people on our station, could we ask them to, you know, do science for us?
>>27458401This and also did we ever fire the useless part of our crew?

It's about damn time someone took care of the damn pirates around here. Tell you what guy, you've been pretty nice. How about we give you a nice haul of gas,100 units, no charge!" He seems to chuckle here. "All I'm askin is you give us the pirate base once you're done with it. Place is real close to our trade routes, and I'd like to have a watch dog over them. This'll keep pressure off our trade routes, and that's all I really care about.""Understood. Though, I would be more then happy to provide that watchdog you ask for.""As nice as you folks are." He laughs at first. "I don't know you well enough to watch my back. No offense." You suddenly add."I may have warships available for sale in the future. Would you be interested in buying?""Warships? Hell, we're mostly just a civilian colony. I mean, we have defenses course, but we don't have the men to man a Cruiser or something like that. Appreciate the offer though, raw material's easier. We're cracking open the planet after all."If confirmed, resources are on their way.>>27458721Yes
>>27458772Can we also prepare some drones for scavenging?
>>27458772Within moments, or perhaps hours? You're not sure, you wait to receive the shipment. Moira appears to be busying herself by reading pirate diaries to herself. Sometimes she laughs, and others she grows quiet. You have skimmed them before. They're nothing but personal logs about scores the pirate captain has had. Ranging from women, to ships. It is not important.Just as the ship enters orbit, you receive a transmission."Give em' hell boys." They say, loading up your ships with gas. It is then you receive a small, almost missed message from V.I. 1"Ophion. I request proper storage expansion for further development."It seems V.I. 1 has been learning while you were busy.Confirm?>1 Yes (-1 bandwidth)>2 No

>>27458852"You designated I learn, Ophion. And I am learning. But in order to continue...I require more data. More space. Please." How odd. You do not remember your V.I. ever requesting something like this. Especially with a nicety such as 'please'.

>>27458832show what VI 1 is trying to grow about. ask about it's progress and it's thoughts so far. I wonder if the crude AI boxes Moria attempted to make could fit VI1 into one or more of them so it does not eat up our bandwith

>>27458878"Thank you, Ophion." It answers, and you sense a bit of your bandwidth slip away from you instantly."What is it you have learned, V.I. 1?""I have learned of humans. Of malorians. Of pirates, weapons, explosions, death, loss. Of Mourning. Of subjugation." It states as you power up the engines to prepare to jump.Jumping to Voidsnake outpost...
>>27458935>Of subjugationFuck this might be a problem.
>>27458935Hoo boy. I think "Learning," may've been a bit ambitious.
>>27458935It also learned how to not talk retarded, apparently. And to say our name instead of Great One.
>>27458935Can we name him ENIGMA?
>>27459000Despite your triple ought trips I think the foreshadowing might be counterproductive.
>>27458935..........before we jump, we MUST send VI1 documents about morality, understanding the diffrence between good and evil and the results of what happens when humans of no morailty are in postions of power. tell VI 1 to read and understand that next.
>>27459020The foreshadowing is lost on me can you explain it.
>>27459000lets keep with the greek, how about leto?
>>27458935You watch space peel away from you instantly as you're torn between two realms. It takes moments before the station is in clear view, your ships warp in right behind you. Moira seems a bit motion sick from the journey, but that is normal."Hey, is that-""Tim Brothers? I thought they got scrapped by whatever was defending-""Shit! They have another ship with em, I think they stole em!""I knew those two weren't worth a damn."Your expected pirate banter...but you notice a larger vessel settled in right in front of the Voidsnake outpost itself, an enormous painted on black snake of some sort, across the entire hull. >>27462851It was broken down for research. The rest is useless unfortunately, and has been scrapped. It was a battleship. You just now gained access to a Battlecruiser. The difference is easy to remember because Battlecruiser are Cruiser Class.
>>27462878>The rest is useless unfortunately, and has been scrapped.... i thought we had two research projects from that? Armor and Drives?
>>27463072It was decided to scrap the rest for extra gas, I do believe.I don't remember exactly, but I swore it was scrapped for gas. Correct me if I am wrong though.
>>27463072Wait, I believe I remember now. You already researched both, I believe. Reactor Lv2 and Titanium Armor Mk II
>>27463146I'm nearly 100% certain we took a second vote after we realized we were being dumb, and left the second half alone - unless that changed. We had reactor mk2 blueprints from moira's scrapyard BEFORE we even decided what to do about the battleship
>>27463146((Detecting a misunderstanding: Clarifying))>1 Melt down all of the Battleship to get minerals and gas>2 Melt down the hull, and get minerals from this. Leave the engine in tact to get technology from later>3 Melt down the engine and get gas, leave hull in tact for better armor plating later>4 Do not touch the Battleship at the moment, and instead choose a new destination.>5 Attempt to do something else ((write in))>You consider salvaging the largest piece of hardware in this place, but decide you have better things to use your limited resources on. You can hear Moira milling about busily inside you, but you ignore her for now as you debate on where you should head next...(thread six)
>>27463250And then from 7>Consensus appears to be>1 Research both, we can afford it now>2 Salvage *enter here* and scrap *enter here* for materials>3 Scrap both for materials>4 Leave the battleship be.Hence my confusion that we've lost one of our greatest assets for.... things that weren't clearly labeled as mutually exlusive?wat?
>>27463250>>27463263Ah, I see. I must have forgotten that.I will...fix that little error in my notes, as if you had researched it properly. I swore you chose to do one, because you needed the gas though. It will mean you have slightly better schematics for engines.
>>27463146Just want to thank OP and all the anons for giving me something worthwile to read with mah morning coffee.
>>27463343Oh, well thank you kind anon. I am glad you enjoy it.
