You are a Magical Girl, and you’re about to interrogate a bunch of filthy rich recording company executives about what’s exactly got them spooked enough that they’d want to leave just as your client’s grand concert had just started.

It’s a convenient stroke of luck, considering that you’re REALLY in the mood to shoot some kneecaps off. Or maybe just tear them off manually with your hands, or whatever. You'll play it by ear.

It’s all about moving on, and becoming a better person, and not dwelling on the past.

Because fuck everything there is about idols. Everything.
>>
>>27361743

Of course, you kind of know why the executives are spooked as they are, their badly tailored coat-and-ties making them look like worried penguins scurrying about mindlessly. Yoshitaka Mine, President of Hakuho-hai and a representative of one of the biggest yakuza groups in Japan, Tojo Group, had been urgently herding them out of the stadium and into a limousine before you had them rounded up by Kyosuke’s armed gorillas. It doesn’t really explain the exact reason, though.

Of course, you had the limousine blown up by your own squad of Vindicares. It’s currently a smoking wreck just outside the stadium, one that had attracted a few of the stadium staff and was now dousing the flames with fire extinguishers. This isn’t your first idol mission.

Anyway, you’ve got the executives – four of them, to be exact – sitting in one room. You were just about to ask about Mine, when you realized that Kyosuke’s men had him separated from the executives and guarded in another room entirely, in a surprising show of competence and consideration. No worries of the yak answering for them, or trying to threaten them to keep silent.

Beyond the backstage area, you can still hear the sounds of the concert – the pounding bass, the shitty J-POP blasting from huge speakers, and the screaming of the crowd – melding into one roaring din, muffled by the walls. The very floor vibrating slightly with the beat.

…Well. Anyway.

What do you do now?

>>
>>27361787 >>27361819 >>27361826 >>27361831

You decided to interrogate the executives first. Let the yak freeze his nuts off for a while longer while inside the equipment room that Kyosuke's men had appropriated for his holding cell. Easier to deal with someone used to having a lot of clout and power after he's stewed in his own juices for a while, alone and without his usual attache of brutes.

Besides, the warmup will be appreciated. It's been a while since you actually worked properly - and no, running errands and babysitting for an idol does not count as work. At least, you don't count it as work.

Just before you could enter the room where the executives are held, however, it's here that your smartphone starts to vibrate. You blink at this, before pulling the device out. It's a call, from Kyuubey. You immediately accept it and hold the device up to your ear.

"Ah, Matsuda. There you are." The Incubator's voice is a bit faint from the cheering in the background. "Sorry about the ambient noise, I'm calling from the general assembly room. Our girls are very vocal about how much of a fan they are of your client."

Right. Well. What's he calling for? You've got a date to keep with some kneecaps, here.

"Yes, well. I'm calling about that."

...Here it comes.

"Now, now. I know this seems a certain way, but I do my best not to micromanage everyone in my payroll - most especially my Warmaster. I simply try and...provide direction, so we're always on the same page in terms of office policy." The mutant cat pauses here momentarily. "That is what I'm doing here. Providing direction. And the direction I'd like you to take is the one where you try not to ruin the great PR you've been building up for us so far by doing something counter-productive."

Like what?

"Like shooting a certain recording company executive or two in the kneecaps," Kyuubey replies.

...Goddamn mutant bastard cat.

How do you respond?
>>
>>27362057
I don't know, you can de-magnetize metal easily. In a robot that's advaned enough to seamlessly mimic a human being full ECM shielding might also not be too hard to expect. I'd suggest taking her to a motor garage and putting her next to one of those 500kg-mega magnets they use to trigger magnetic valves in engine blocks or gearboxes. It'll do something and I bet Misaka has one of those lying around.

>>
>>27362197
The way I see it is that we talk all this shit about "Kill. Maim. Kneecap." between posts, but when it comes to it we don't do something that might have bad consequences in the future, like a shadow war between companies. No. We'll go in there and ask questions, when they hesitate we ask again and then if that doesn't work we'll do a show of force. Like say pulling out the gold chainaxes from the shield (Because you know it's going to happen at some point).

Or [Retarded plan that will drop Sayaka points by a lot maybe] Tell Sayaka she'll need to play pretend for a bit, handcuff her and make one of the guards bring her in the room, we will pretend to think she's involved with the yakuza, she'll deny it of course and when she refuses to speak we kneecap her and while typing this I remembered we're in a place with many uninvolved people. I'm stupid and should probably go play a game or something.

But angering Pinky means that our Timestop becomes even more unreliable.
Pinky controls the Timestop, she can turn it on and off on a whim. If she's annoyed enough she could remote-deactivate our Timestop when we're in the middle of a gunfight and relying on it.

Hnh. Well. You weren't really planning on REALLY shooting them, just--

"Please don't insult our working relationship by lying to me, Matsuda." There's the slightest note of reproach in Kyuubey's voice as he cuts you off. "I have your best interests at heart, and your worst ones written down and notarized in case you need proof that will hold up in court. If at all possible, try to leave them as you found them - with their knees intact."

...Damn cat. Fine, okay. You'll do your best not to. No promises. It's not like you're interrogating them to find out just what kind of shit involving your client might be going down, right? It's not like you're doing this for the benefit of the mission, right?

"I'm glad we can come to an understanding, Matsuda," replies Kyuubey, in the most shit-eating voice you've ever heard him reply in. "I have complete trust in you, both as my Warmaster and my proxy." A moment's pause, once more. "Of course, the overt threat of having their kneecaps shot out might be enough. You do have that gift for that kind of diplomacy - it's just a shame that you carry them out just as much as you threaten them."

Oh, so you can't shoot them, but you can at least make it look like they would?

"Well, as long as you maintain the illusion that they might get their kneecaps blown out, but to not actually do it..." Kyuubey replies. "I'll leave it up to you to decide what route to take best. I am simply advising that the actual act of shooting their kneecaps out be left as the very last, penultimate resort."

...Right. But what about Mine, then?

There's a moment of silence, here, before Kyuubey replies. A reply that, while delivered in his same usual tones, is made much more chilling by the fact that he doesn't seem to think much of just what he said.

"As long as it's kept out of sight, I could hardly care less what happens to him, Matsuda." He clears his throat, once. "Good evening to you."

[1/2]
>>
>>27362625

The call ends there, and you shove your smartphone back into your inventory. You heard it from the mutant cat himself. The executives are not to be shot unless it's just about the only thing you can do, and Mine...well. Kyuubey's practically told you that you could shove him facefirst into a woodchipper and he wouldn't mind.

Sure, you'll always have your disagreements with the mutant cat, but he knows how you work, at least.

Shoving your hands into your jacket's pockets, you step into the room where they're holding the executives. All four of them sitting in cheap monoblock plastic chairs, pulled out from makeup stalls. All of them visibly sweating, clutching cups of tea with one hand and their smartphones in the other. One of them in particular is looking almost ready to spill, moreso when you saw him glance up at your hat's emblem.

How do you start this interrogation?

Y'know what would be REALLY intimidating if these chucklefucks feel uncooperative?

Shooting the legs out of their shitty plastic chairs so that they fall on their asses.

We could even make some quip about that being a poetic metaphor as we pull out a bigger gun.

He is also a threat to the safety of our client. We should have interrogated and eliminated him as quickly as possible; these princesses aren't going to know a damn thing and we can't even use them to vent.

It might be more effective to keep eye contact with the one that's angering us and then shoot out the leg of the chair one of the others is sitting in without looking at him. I think that would actually be more fear inducing because it cuts down on the disorientation and the fear of pain is always worse.

You stare at them for a few moments, while allowing them to get a good look at you in return. The uneasy silence in the room allowing what little of the concert's din to float through the open door. ...The first bars of A Magical Girl's Only Wish, if you're hearing it correctly. The concert seems to be getting into full swing now, and it's a pity you're not there to see Sayaka really work it.

It's here that you step around the table that Kyosuke's men were also kind enough to set up for you, with the executives all seated on one side, facing the other that had a single, solitary chair. Meant for you, most likely, and it's in this chair that you take a seat in, carefully, quietly. Taking your time to get comfortable, even with the knowledge that time isn't exactly on your side, here. But then again, it isn't on theirs, either. The mixed look of impatience and despair on their faces proof enough of that.

After a few more moments of fidgeting, it's here that you stare at them again - each in turn - before reaching into the depths of your jacket to pull out the Golden Desert Eagle from its concealed holster. The cold metal immediately growing flesh-warm to your touch, eager, hungry.

You hear, very faintly, their collective intake of breath as the room's harsh fluorescent lighting caught the polished golden metal. The gleam sliding, silklike, along the barrel as you draw the bulky firearm out in full. A comically-oversized firearm even in a grown man's hands, much more made disproportionate in yours.

One click, as you disengage the safety.

Another as you carefully slip out the magazine, giving it a cursory check before sliding it back in.

The third and final one echoes throughout the silent room as you place it carefully on the table, in front of you.

And once that they've managed to tear their eyes away from the Desert Eagle, glancing back at you with jaw-slack faces, it's hear that you smile.

[1/2]
>>
>>27363628

"Gentlemen," You start, keeping your voice pleasant, level, something made difficult by how all of them flinched even before the first syllable left your lips. "Is there a problem? Were the accommodations not to your liking?"

"E-excuse me, young lady," One of the executives cut you off, sweat positively pouring down his balding head. "I-I do believe there's been a bit of a misunderstanding, we--"

"--Would you mind telling me the reason for your rush?" You keep smiling as you continue. "I heard from security that there has been an accident with your vehicle; it is being cleared away as we speak. I am sure we can find you cabs after the concert."

One of them had started to murmur incoherently under his breath, jowls quivering as he gripped his smartphone in a sweaty, white-knuckled grip.

"Can't...can't stay here..." The executive gabbled. "I'm not...I've got a family..."

"Nakamura, shut up!" The executive at the far end - a particularly squat-looking one with a receding hairline concealed with what looks to be a particularly shameless combover and lots of hair gel - snaps at his gabbling compatriot. "You don't have to tell this kid anything! Do you idiots forget what the Tojo Group can do?!"

"I'm...I'm not going to die here....got a family..." The previous executive shakes his head, positively panicking now. He turns to you, pointing one shaking, well-manicured finger. "Y-you. What's...what's your name? G-give me your name, miss." He all but rips out something from the inside of his suit, you see it's a slightly sweaty checkbook.

"C-can pay what you want. Anything. J-just let me go back to my family...please."

Fire 1 shot into the floor, it should not richochet it's just cement, as we fire, kick the fat guy in the nuts so he screams, fire again, kick again. Then say out loud, "Good Night, I hope you enjoyed the show."

Fire a third time as we 1hit KO him have and ask the guards outloud to drag him to a quiet dark spot and leave him there.

Walk back in wiping the deagle off with the hem of the skirt, and say, "Mr.Nakamura, you were about to say something I very much want to hear?"

I wonder, what kind of insurance policy do the record companies have on the idols on stage right now?

Insurance policies on their contracts too?

Insurance on the stadium?

Say for some reason they needed a huge amount of money, either to pay off a debt, or just plain greed. They contact Tojo group with an idea, maybe some of our idols are getting out of hand and we want to collect on what we can while we can. Arrange for an incident at a time and date, and we'll give you a big cut.

Tojo goes to the 10th, offers an idea that can put not just one Meguca into despair, but many others watching around the world as the most popular idol ever that loves magical girls and wishes them happiness and pure love gets killed by a witch they're helpless to stop.

What do?

While we're doing this interrogation, can we get people to do a thorough inventory of what's stored at this place? Look for any crates that there aren't any records of, any shady deliveries that haven't been checked yet. Make sure nobody's dropped of a bomb in a storeroom under the stadium.
>>
>>27364008

it also exposes that we have orders not to shoot them.

That guy that recognised the symbol? Probably also knows Chiaki's MO, shooting out kneecaps.

What other explanation could there be for such a deviation from her standard normal practice? It shows that there are fetters around her ankles, small as they may be, and is something that can be used.
>>
>>27364039
Chiaki is pretty new on the stage so to speak. The guy probably knows OF the symbol and that Kharn wore a hat with it. He put 2 and 2 together and he realized who he's dealing with
>>
>>27364039
Uh, and talking softly ISN'T a deviation from normal practice? I'm not sure what your point is here.
>>
>>27364039
>>27364094
>>27364105
Really, all we have to say is that we're wasting time, and "for their safety" call someone to bring a solid padlock to lock them in until after the party's over, with guards.

"Unless of course there's any specific danger you'd like to tell us about?"
>>
>>27364094

At least then he knows what the badge means.

>>27364105

Point is the threat is still there.

If we go to the gun immediately, what happens if they call the bluff. How do we escalate without defying Kyubey's instructions?

With talking the implicit threat of gunning them is still there and is an option that can be taken if they refuse to budge after talking.
>>
>>27363646

[x] I'm sorry, but technically you're already paying me for my services. Which is to ensure the security of the participants of this concert from some rather unfortunate and unsavory elements.

>>

Technically that's incorrect. Ruri's production company is paying us, not these record company execs.
>>
>>27364237

Her execs aren't there ? Oh sorry then.
>>
>>27364237
They "Paid" for an entry ticket, and we are providing security for the concert.

You look down at the executive's open checkbook - his hand, poised with an expensive-looking pen over it, already dripping sweat onto the paper - and you shake your head, the smile still on your face.

"Do I look like I need money?" You ask the middle-aged executive named Nakamura, your voice still level, still polite.

"N-no, of...of course not, but--" The executive tries, one hand reaching up to wipe his suit's sleeve on his bedewed forehead. "L-look, whatever they're paying you, I-I can double it, triple it, m-maybe some stock options--"

You slam your hand down on the table, open-palmed, the sound a clear and shocking bang that makes all four executives jump in their seats. Nakamura in particular almost falls out of his - and you can tell that the man's just about close to breaking down.

You've seen their type - the usually spineless sort that got way in over his head because someone strong-armed him into. Rich and sheltered, he'd always counted on his money getting him a convenient way out - and now that it's not working, his world is just about crashing around his ears. The sort that would crawl through dirt and mud and shit just to save his ass, even if it meant dragging his friends down into the crap with him.

"Tell me," You start again, still in the same maddeningly-patient tone. "...why you're so desperate to leave, then, and I'll think about letting you go. If you're concerned about the Tojo Group, I may even be able to arrange for protection." You pause here, before turning to glance at the executive who'd tried to shut Nakamura up earlier. "...But until I start getting the answers I want, then we're all going to enjoy the entire concert together."

[1/2]
>>
>>27364376
There's a sudden dripping sound from underneath the table, faint yet clear as day. The scent of ammonia detectable even in the amount of makeup and perfume in the dressing room you've appropriated as an interrogation room.

"For fuck's sake, Nakamura..." Combover Executive growls underneath his breath, before moving his chair a few inches away from the now-blubbering family man. His other companions following suit moments later.

...Well. Apparently you've made someone piss themselves without even so much as touching them. Is that a first? You don't quite remember.

"...Listen, girlie." It's here that Combover lets out a weary, tired sigh. "Fine. You've made your point. Yes, we're...in a hurry to get out of here. I'll give you that." He nods at you. "But let me tell you, you don't get to where we are by just being fat old men earning too much money off of idols and girly boys. To be where we are, you have to be smart about it." He points a gnarled finger to his temple. "Real smart. And right now, young lady, I think the smart thing to do would be to go with you. For now, at least."

The executive clears his throat, shooting the sobbing Nakamura a dirty look before continuing. "That said, Mine didn't tell us anything. Nothing concrete. But I did hear him fighting with someone over the phone - seemed like someone at the other end of the line had told him some bad news, bad news he didn't quite expect or take very well." He pauses here to wipe sweat off his brow with a monogrammed handkerchief. "It looks to me that whoever he was talking to is going to do something they didn't quite agree on. I heard him tell them not to even think about doing it here. About it not being part of the contract."

Silence, here, as you wait for him to continue. He blinks at you, before shaking his head.

[2/3]
>>
>>27364395
"That's it, girlie. After that he stood up. Looked pale as a sheet, and asked us very nicely to get our asses out of our chairs and get to his personal limo. Nakamura here didn't want to at first, because he's a big fan of whatever tripe that green-haired hussy is singing on stage." Another glare at the blubbering executive. "That's all you're getting out of me - and us. Now, can we fucking leave already?"

...Well. It doesn't seem like he's lying. It's hard to tell, though - despite what you've been doing, Combover looks remarkably calm, despite sweating just as much as Nakamura.

How do you react?

>>
>>27364408
Most likely the Yak didn't want whatever is about to happen, happen to his money pump. And whatever is about to happen look like it'll involve the 10th Officio.

These execs are probably just money bags.
>>
>>27364408

All teams to max readiness. Prep for trouble. Bad shit is brewing.

Also need to let our enishi and Sayaka know to get ready to pull our principal off the stage ASAP.
>>
>>27364408

[X] "You are free to go, if I find out you've withheld information we'll be in touch."

let's get to Mine quickly.
>>
>>27364408
IC: Realize that the yak is probably connected to the 10th and Jyuubey. Remember that they are considered rogue and that Jyuubey force-witched a MG back in siberia. Make the connection and assume the worst. Get out and go to the Yakuza's room fast.
>>
>>27364408
[x] "And he didn't mention a name? Security will escort you out."
Go to where Mine is being held. On the way, call up QB, tell him that we suspect that the 10th Officio is reneging on a contract with the Tojo Group, and are going to witch out one of their magical girls at the concert. Keep QB on the line as we question Mine. Call up Squad Hiryu and Enishi, tell them to begin targeting all magical girls in the crowd; one of them is possibly going to witch out.
>>
[x] "Thank you for your time. If you survive, please take note of our good protective services."

[x] Leave, let them rot. Go interrogate Tojo fast. Possibly with "Ok, if you tell me what's about to happen I might be able to save your life."

No point dicking around with these idiots now.
>>
>>27364408
Thank them for their help, make them comfortable, get them a drink, perhaps give them a live feed of the concert to watch. Don't let them go just yet, however. Move onto the yak, seeing if QB or someone can get a log of any phone conversations he's had recently. Make sure everyone's doubly on the lookout for anyone behaving suspiciously or any odd packages.
>>
>>27364395
Walk out, walk to Tojo, shoot him in the kneecap and tell him to talk and he might get away with just that.
>>
>>27364576
generally it isn't a good idea to start off the interrogation by sending the subject into shock. Remember, Mine doesn't have the regeneration and resiliency that a magical girl has. Save the kneecapping until later.

You stare at Combover for a few moments more, making him sweat - before finally standing up from your seat and picking up the Golden Desert Eagle off of the table. You make sure to let them see that you're not making any move to holster it, but simply holding it by your side.

It's here that you thank them for their time, and tell them that they're free to go. Security will escort them out and into a conveyance of their choosing. Of course, if you find out that they've deliberately misinformed you, then you will be in touch.

"Understood, but unnecessary," Combover grunts as he stands up, along with the rest of the executives. "We're not that stupid, girlie. We've been negotiating contracts and dealing with yakuza for half of our lives. You...magical girls... are just like them, as far as we're concerned. The only thing different is that you're just a bit more expensive, and you smell better. " He utters the term like someone tasting cancerous bile and being told it was the finest cuisine money can buy.

...In retrospect, maybe you should've shot out his kneecaps for that, but you were already on your way out then. Making a beeline right for the room where Mine is being held - which, of course, is just next door from the executives'. The security detail posted in front of the door seems to be occupied in stopping Mine's own goons from getting into the room, but they part quickly enough for you to step through without breaking your stride. You pull the door close behind you, just as the Tojo Group representative looks up from his seat, a lit cigarette held delicately between two fingers.

For someone in a hurry to get out of here, he looks calm, almost bored. He even has the balls to smile at you. "Ah. Miss Magical Girl, we meet again. Do you smoke?" He reaches for something inside his jacket. "I have here some splendid--"

You cut him off as you continue moving forward, reaching out and grabbing a handful of his collar - hauling him off his chair, upsetting the table, and shoving him facefirst against the cold metal wall of the equipment room. He lets out a rather unmanly squawk as you smash his face into the wall again, just with enough force to hurt. The impact is a solid, metallic noise, like a gong muffled with cloth but struck hard enough to reverberate.

"Please, allow me to explain--" Mine tries, while at the same time trying to dislodge you - he may be impeccably dressed, but the man is just as well-built as Kyosuke, probably even more so. However, you're not in the mood to play fair - and you kick the back of his legs in, forcing him to kneel. He's just about to hiss in pain when you press the cold mouth of the Desert Eagle's barrel against the back of his knee. Optimal kneecap blasting range.

"Start talking, fuckface." You all but snarl at him, the trigger pulled to a hair's breadth to completion.

"...I'm not at liberty to say," Mine manages to say calmly and levelly. "It's...it's a matter between me and the people I hired. Please, don't do anything you may regret, Miss Matsuda."

...Oh, so he knows your name, now?

"...Yes. The...squad I hired. They told me about you." The yakuza representative seems to be suddenly aware of his slip, wincing. "...Please, can't we discuss this like rational adults...?"

You reply by pulling the trigger - and the Desert Eagle bucks harshly in your grip as it spits out fire and brimstone in its usual deafening roar of a discharge. But instead of spraying yourself with blood and bits of knee, all you get is the faint whiff of gunpowder and seared metal - the spot on the wall right beside Yoshitaka Mine's still-intact leg joint bearing a new fist-sized hole in it, its edges still a hot, molten red.

"Eight seconds." You state stonily, curtly, in a tone that you hope conveys the notion that your patience will only last eight seconds and not one second more. "Seven. Six."

"...Alright. Alright, Miss Matsuda. You win." Mine gulps audibly. "Fine. I had...I had nothing planned for this concert, not in the way you think." He tries to look at you, but you're not letting up the pressure much, making it an exercise in futility. "All I was going to do was to visit Miss Kirishima's room when the concert's done. Ask forgiveness for my disgraceful display back there at the Hotel." Mine takes a deep breath. "I realize now that...that might have colored your perception of me, some. Seeing as we're here, and all."

You grunt irritably at this. He's not talking fast enough for your liking.

"...I'm getting to it, please, Miss Matsuda." The yakuza representative takes another deep, shuddering breath. "The squad I hired...they warned me about...an attack. Another group is here, among the audience, waiting and watching for the right move. They have no Officio, but they have a leader." He shakes his head. "They call her their Prophet, and that her vengeance is at hand."

...Hnh. This Prophet, again.

The other obvious option would be Oriko. But I don't see how it could be her, how would she both go MG AND gather many non-officio MGs in the short time since Kirika died? I guess with lots of pinky intervention on her behalf it could happen, but...

"They advised me to leave immediately, and take the executives with me out. They told me that this group is gunning for one specific person - and that person is you, Miss Matsuda." Mine manages to smile, here. "Which is a bit ironic, considering that you're the one supposed to protect your client in the first place. Instead, you've brought the danger to her." He chuckles, a low, breathless sound. "Is...is that to your satisfaction, Miss Matsuda?"

You're just about to reply, when suddenly your earbud comes to life with a crackle of static.

"Matsuda-sama?" It's Enishi. "Matsuda-sama, I know you're busy, but we have a situation. Ayumu of Squad Hiryu isn't responding, and her readout is a flatline--"

Another crackle of static, and then, an unfamiliar voice crackles in your ear. One with a rather smooth, dignified accent, like someone brought up reading poetry and high literature, that kind of thing.

"Your little sniper is fine, Murderer. Or, at least, her Soul Gem is." The voice is smooth, silky, not unlike Kirika on a good day. "I can't guarantee it will stay that way, however, if you choose to conduct yourself in the uncouth manner you and your Officio seem happy enough to revel in. Like pigs in shit."

Calling off the concert is the last thing we want to do. The chaos of getting all those people out is just going to make it even easier for trouble makers to cause problems. We should leave calling off the concert until things start happening. We've got enough cover on the stage if things go pear-shaped.

Is it really okay to threaten someone who we know nothing about and who is in a position to take out one of our snipers without the others even being aware and who just hijacked our comms and who is unaffiliated to any Officio and who's specifically gunning for us but doesn't care about harming unrelated parties like Ayumu?

We need to know more about who and what we're dealing with before we go making threats. We're at a complete disadvantage right now and anything we say is just baseless threats which will be immediately seen as such.

Also, thanks for running. And welcome back!

“Sami?” I called out to the open. Immediately faces turned to me and only half turned away a second later. Don’t really blame them; I’m known to be more active during dusk and nightfall. But a call in by Eightball is a call I couldn’t really deny, and apparently I wouldn’t be alone for his little interrogation.

Still, people didn’t expect me to ever show myself in day time. I couldn’t tell if they were wondering why I was there at the time or if they were looking at me and thinking “that’s one of the qualifiers for the tournament.” I couldn’t care less about it back then; I just wanted to make sure Eightball knew something after the interview.

I am not a morning person. Do not ever expect me to become a morning person. If you call me up early somebody will have bloody jelly for a head.

…Guess I was feeling merciful that day.

I walked straight to the end of the room to the elevators when one of them opened in front of me. A few girls walked past me but the surprise was the only one left in the elevator when I got on.

“You’re still in that?” The casual question was asked as I joined Sami, transformed in her dress and ribbons combo.

“Not much blood, doesn’t matter. Then there’s you, hypocrite.” She eyed my own dress, black and that same shade of blue while having more dots of crimson on it then on her.

“Yea, I guess we’re both lazy.”

“You’re lazy.”

“You don’t care.”

We stopped after that as the elevator began to ascend. I realized then why she was there; we both fought the day before and did well. Eighty had told me he wanted a few words with those he thought showed potential in the tournament.

I already had been watched by him in the past. I wanted to see who else he saw.

I don't think we gave her much of an option, what with how much backup we called in.
>>
>>27366421
Couldn't have said it better myself. We do not have the upper hand here, so threats and bravado are a very bad idea.
>>
Well whatever we say, we need to keep her talking and head towards someone in our squad and let them know what's going on. Finding pen and paper out of nowhere, hand signals... fuck, write it on the wall with bullet holes. We need to let someone know so they can help us out with dealing with the Prophet's flunkies while we deal with her.

“Mornin’ bitches!” A classic greeting by Eightball as we walked out of the elevator and passed by a girl with long, orange hair who grinned at me as she walked by. “And I’ll be catchin’ you later Megan!”

Megan huh? I’ll probably see her again later.

“Gina, you were all bitchin about the tourney, but look at you now! Totally wiped that poor sucka! You getting on the good road to winning, I tell you. Now, Sami…” He turned his head to her while she was doing her best not to yell. “Eightball ain’t got much to say to you. That match? Fuckin brutal, it spoke for itself. Wasted her in no time flat! You serious about gettin that gold aren’t you?

“I did what would make me win.” She stated coldly, turning her head away. Sami never had the best… relations with Eightball, ever since I knew her. Didn’t know why and figured that if a cold person gets irritated by something, you don’t ask, especially if they consider you a friend.

“Aw, come on now Sami-girl. You scared a lot of the other bitches by tearing that girl a new one! When she came back to she didn’t know what the fuck happened! You’ve been-”

“Eighty, please.” I interrupted his speech, hoping he would get the notice.

“Gina, you shut the fuck up for a bit, okay? Just tryin ta make sure all my good bitches know I’m proud of em!” He… kinda did. “Alright, earth-ta mother-fuckin Sami. . .”

Oh boy, I thought at the time, this will be a while. And it would.

We don't really care that much about the crowd. Call for a break, get Ruri off stage, get all our MGs texts telling them to get out now, wait thirty minutes for them to get out, then apologise and have everyone else leave slowly.

[x]A pleasure to you too. *call enshi on the other phone and tell them to get Ruri off stage etc* What can I do for you?
>>
>>27366495
The ten minutes afterwards were Eightball trying to sweet-talk Sami into talking more, but her responses were either short, non-descriptive or unsatisfactory to Eighty. I knew that she was hard to crack, but he didn’t need to try that hard. Whatever Sami had against Eightball, he was only making it worse. I could tell from her face.

His phone rang on the table, making a nice interruption. “Fucking damn it, what the hell is it now?” He opened the phone while I looked back at Sami, who was more then relieved.

“The fuck is it Mary? …Oh really? We fuckin straight now… She asked for what!?” He busted out laughing at whatever him and what I assume was the warmaster-in-training was talking about. “Fuckin Japaneese. Just make sure the suit fits er like a glove as we be rollin. I’ll thank my bro for sendin his bitches over. Eightball out.” He sets the phone down and looks back at us. “You girls be free to go, I gotta see that I pay my respects. A brotha gotta thank his brothers."

“Later, Eighty.” I did a respectful bow and turned to leave. Sami on the other hand wasted no time heading to the elevator, immediately getting in as it came up and opened.

“Never good with him huh?” She intentionally avoided my gaze and my question, tapping her foot against the floor as the elevator started going down. “If it helps you calm down, you can come to my place.” It was nothing I really minded, I never had any problem with visitors before, but I knew Sami was… different. Like I was.

“…Sure."

Hope it's not too late to input a suggestion.

"If you were any good, you'd have taken me when I was alone in the tunnels. Instead you try coerce me by kidnapping one of my girls. Other magical girls didn’t bother us as we exited the building. For a long time, we didn’t talk. I could tell she was conflicted then, and I knew there was still a lot I didn’t know about her. But I was reminded of the day before, and what she told me.

“You were right yesterday.” She turned to me as we began walking down the sidewalk. “What you said about collecting weapons. I didn’t really think about it then but you made a point. The difference here is that when the world comes looking for me, I’ll be ready.”

“Better be.” Her cold response told me she wasn’t going to cooperate that well. With the opportunity of location I decided to change the subject.

“We first met around here, a few months ago.” My eyes scan the area, a normal California costal town that’s hiding two deadly organizations. “Funny how you started the conversation, asking me why I was perched on a rooftop.”

“You didn’t know why.”

“True, it was just habit. Like how you are always in costume.”

“It’s comfortable.” That was true, at least for me as well. The outfits are usually on-spot for most girls, though there are some… questionable combinations. I briefly considered asking how Eightball could get all those fashion ideas for so many girls, but I found out we were out of time.

“Well, we’re here. Again."

My apartment was fair, at best. Not too bland but not a whole lot to look at either; walls of blue, black carpet and very few pictures. At least it looked more modern then others. The furniture was comfy at least, save for that one rocking chair that I forgot its origin. I didn’t like to keep anything dirty or messy for too long, but I knew regardless of that Sami wouldn’t care.

“It’s been a while.” She stated as she walked in, looking around.

“To an extent we both prefer being alone.” I reminded her, entering in last and closing the door. “The first time you came here you ranted on about every minute detail and hoped I got annoyed enough to let you go.”

“Which didn’t happen.”

“You did do your best, I’ll admit.” Chuckling, I looked over where she was. Surprisingly she was looking at the mirror, her hands touching the blood stains on the dress. Her ribbons began moving too, stretching out then relaxing. She once said her ribbons felt like a part of her, which was part of the reason she didn’t like getting out of her magical outfit, since they also vanished.

She looked back at me after a while and I could tell she was looking at my bloodstains as well. “You have more blood on yourself then I do.”

“You’re smaller.”

“You should change.”

“I, what?” She never bothered with me on stuff like that before, why now? I stared at her in shock as she opened the closet and looked at my clothes inside. “Well, I guess I should but…” I watched her take some clothes and fling them at me.

“Get out and go change.”

Sami is not someone I would ever consider for fashion, but looking at the full-body mirror showed she did have some taste. A black and purple skirt reached my feet while the top half of me was blue shirt with a black, red and gold Chinese dragon coloring on it that spans my entire chest despite my proportions (Sami was jealous of me, but a D isn’t really -that- big). My black hair didn’t get in the way since it only went down to the shoulders, but it also didn’t hide my worn-out face, only made more apparent by my dejected red eyes.

Eventually I walked away from the mirror, wondering how much I could really go before I couldn’t recognize myself anymore.

“You want anything?” I asked her, walking over to the kitchen area. “Still got a lot of stuff I haven’t finished yet.”

“I’m good.” Her reaction was bland as she gazed at something across the room. Just knowing what direction she was looking at I knew what object had gotten her attention.

“I really haven’t picked up that in a long time.” Turning my head to the piano at the far side of the room, I couldn’t remember the last time I played music. “Probably should, every night something doesn’t go wrong when I wonder around just means it’s going to happen later.”

“Playing music is safe?”

“Safer then braving the midnight streets, even if I’m a magical girl.” Almost automatically I walked over to the piano, an old wooden model that was handed down to me…

“One of the bloody gifts?”

“Yea. . .” We once talked about our histories and how we became magical girls and decided not to bring it up again. It turned out I wasn’t alone in the ruined childhood department.

“Why did you stop?"

“There was no reason to keep playing.” She should have known what I meant, but. . .

“Then play for me.”

Decu doomed us all to pussyfooting around this mission by making them Azumangas. If only they'd been from some less liked series instead.

>>27366619
Sami never failed to disappoint in the surprises factor that day. After getting myself down on the chair I lifted the cover and ran my fingers over the keys. It took a few moments of random key pressing before I somehow knew what to play. An ode to the shadow of the earth, I played it slowly.

“The darkest night, with no moon
Blankets over all, no one is immune.
The light of man, across the world
Hides the shadow, which we’ve furled.

Nations crumble, people die
Before our eyes, time flies by
We can’t stay still, for too long
For as we wait, life goes on.

People can say, nothing to loose
Some still tell, of freedom to choose.
The iron hand, still grips us all
We can’t escape, until we fall.

Leaders rise, and hold our fears
While in the dark, feed on tears
When will we see, what has gone
When we’re content, how life goes on.

Will there ever come a time
When we will look at crime
And see our race’s blackened core,
When we realize
We must cauterize
The source of blood under the door.

Civilization, out greatest illusion
Along with dreams, of revolution
If we never, look past the door
We’ll never know, what’s next in store.

Time is spent, lives are wasted
Humanity now, can’t be sated
Still we hold, and press on
For we all know, life goes on.

And as we pray for the dawn,
Life goes on… life goes on.”

”That was the first song I was taught.” I explained to her after I finished. “I didn’t really understand back then, but now I understand. She tried to warn me.”

“She couldn’t have warned you.” Sami retorted. “There’s a difference between someone who cares and someone who knows you.”

“I get it, but…” The sigh didn’t do much for me. My thoughts were messy and clouded. It’s just, what was I supposed to say?

“Nothing will change the past, especially not thinking about it.” I angrily muttered out, catching her off guard. You know that as much as I do, even if you were better off then I was.”

“We never reached a consensus on that argument.” Sami stated, and she was right. It was touchy, but in a way we could somehow connect with each other. “The best you can do is keep doing what makes you feel comfortable.”

I got up and looked at her. To anyone else it would be shameful to have me be talked down by someone smaller and possibly younger then me. I myself had all the intention of talking back to her. But I knew better than that.

“Gina?” She asked me as I hugged her softly but with enough force to keep her from getting away if she wanted to.

“And this is why we’re friends.” I broke away from her and smiled, giving her a part on the shoulder. “I can think of things from here. Maybe. I can always call.”

“My cell phone’s broken.”

“Oh.” I watched her calmly walk away from me and to the door. When she opened the door she turned back to me.

“What is it that they’re saying now, ‘May the Blessed Lady protect?’” I shrugged in response as she closed the door and left. People are thinking of stranger and stranger things. If there is a “Blessed Lady”, I wouldn’t mind meeting her.

Well, there’s still time in life for a lot of things. Life goes on, indeed.

Hey, I'm gonna go ahead and give a request up for writefaggery.

I've been contemplating what a normal human would do in a world like this if he wants to take the fite to the magical girls as it is wont to happen sooner or later.

So I was contemplating a handful of MGs hanging out in an abandoned building putting the thumbscrews to one dude they want info out of when someone geared up like pic related stomps into the room with a belt-fed AA12 with buckshot loaded and begins blasting away. One gets gibbed trying to get close to him, the others leg it out the backdoor. Only a few steps from the building a grenade launcher blows them off their feet and one of them to pieces while a sniper picks off another. Only one MG left, she tries to flee but the massive autoshotgun guy comes around the corner and smashes her to the ground, then shoots her in one knee. She blacks out a bit.

>>
>>27366681
The song bit could have been done a bit more elegantly than just slapping the lyrics down. That part seemed really sloppily done. Other than that, the flow and word choice could use a lot of work. Seems like you're trying too hard to make it dark and just going straight into 2EDGY territory.
>>
>>27366740

If they have a really good Callidus on hand, they could have covered Ayumu's disappearance until Enishi came along to dispel it.

At any rate, the Vindicares knew the risk of taking this mission, but that doesn't mean that we can sacrifice them all willy-nilly.
>>
>>27366795
Enishi just said she detected the MGs life signals giving off a flatline. A Callidus doing anything would be...useless.

>>27366833

So either our team was negligent, or Ayumu was quietly and quickly taken down while we were doing the interrogations.

That doesn't add up.

>>27366914
That makes no sense. There was enough time for Enishi and the rest of the team to notice Ayumu (and ONLY Ayumu) wasn't responding, and contact Chiaki to give her that information, which means 10+ seconds at least. If contact with the whole team (or even one more) was lost, whether due to signal interference or them being taken out, that would have been mentioned. Therefore, they weren't all taken out at the same time.

Again, she either literally disappeared completely in front of their eyes a la invisibility (which seems a lot of trouble if you're just gonna chunk her for her gem anyway), or they're useless as fuck. Or Decu didn't remember they kept watch on eachother.

What does that have to do with anything?
>>
So people. Anyone else wants to see some sentient Witches in action?
>>
>>27367062
It's the entire justification? The reveal that it was not just a random dude killing the MGs for shiggles but an ordered and paid for hit by a handful of elite henchmen?
>>
>>27367041
I was responding to the first post and how it seemed to be wanton killing of magical girls, not anyone else's response. Either way, it's still murderhobo levels of idiotic.
>>
>>27367014
>>27367030
First off, it's a group of people not only one so in theory they can strike at the same time and leave no chance of anyone reporting in. Or they just jammed the comms beforehand, that's also possible.

Secondly, only Enishi noticed the flat line.

You're probably new to the quest, and that's okay, but the idea clashes horribly with the entire setting. If you want Payday writefaggotry, go try /vg/ or somewhere.
>>
>>27367103
Correction. Only Enishi got to tell us.

> "Matsuda-sama, I know you're busy, but we have a situation. Ayumu of Squad Hiryu isn't responding, and her readout is a flatline--"
Do you really think that she A: didn't make sure every other member of the squad was responding, or B: not mention that others were not responding? There's not much ambiguity in the wording - the only person she lost contact with was Ayumu.
>>
>>27367103

Comes down to, we have a squad unaffiliated with any Officio with a "Prophet" at the helm of their movements. They managed to take one of our girls by surprise, even when we'd specifically ordered an overwatch.

They have the advantage right now, as the element of surprise (we know nothing about them) and a superior strategic position (a "Prophet")... pointless bravado is really, absolutely the poorest choice that could be made here.
>>
I should mention. Deculture did say in one of the post-thread Q&As that there are indeed PMCs that have anti-MG weapons. If that means they have huge cannons assigned to every squad or something that fucks with the way soulgems control the body I don't know.
>>
>>27367081
So? That's not a plot, or a justification, that's just tiny bit of context for the murder-wankfest that was the first post.
>>
>>27367156
Exactly the point I'm trying to support. Obviously they got the advantage and some of you guys want to make the stage boss angry enough to kill our squad.
>>
Friendly reminder that we are not the second coming of Kharn. We are not going to laugh in their face and revel in the ensuring bloodshed.
>>
>>27367238
Christ, that's not it at all. Going up on stage is fucking stupid, we're still on a job.

>"If you were any good, you'd have taken me when I was alone in the tunnels. Instead you try coerce me by kidnapping one of my girls. I have left a river of blood so deep it's one of the signs of the apocolypse, what's one more drop in that. If you want to get serious, make a fucking appointment. My office hours are 9-5 on weekdays."

Show her we're a dedicated professional, we might get some courtesy in return.
>>
>>27367362

I think that what he meant by "Stage boss" was that like... the boss of this level. Thinking of it as a video-game? Not really getting up on stage.
>>
>>27367394
Yeah kinda like that, the boss of the mission I guess. And that stage thing was directed at someone earlier that suggested it.

I think we really exhausted Decu and he just went to sleep as soon as he finished.
>>
>>27367394
Ah, I worked as a stagehand for a while and anytime I see stage boss or hear it, I think that asshole with the headset and the unlit cigarette who shouts a lot and doesn't do anything until someone fucks up.

Regardless, we should put on a display of our professionalism. You mentioned she was a prophet. If she wanted us, she would have taken us in the tunnel. She wants to talk, otherwise she wouldn't have called us in the first place. We should give her an opportunity to talk, but it's on our terms.
>>
>>27367362
I like that >I have left a river of blood so deep it's one of the signs of the apocalypse, what's one more drop in that.

It sounds pretty badass.
>>
>>27366821
forget-me field/illusion and nab. Not that hard.
>>
>>27367442

The last post was extremely late in moon hours. I'm really surprised he even wrote for this long.

Thank you, Decu-pyon!

>>27367454

I think the problem here is that, well... judging from their actions, they know that a direct confrontation with Timestop Mc.Murderface will end in their deaths.

So they're getting as many advantages as they can.

Why attack us in the tunnel when they can send us Mami lookalike corpses, threaten the entire concert, and take out our squad one by one unless we "cooperate"?

Really... we're at an extreme disadvantage right now. We need more info and if just make a bluff that we CAN'T back up, we're going to get called out on it and we're going to have a massive allied body count for out first mission as Warmaster.
>>
>>27367362
>>27367488
See, I take that as that "Uncouth Manner" she was talking about. She'd likely see that as bragging and I'd prefer to keep our vindicare alive if at all possible.

Someone with invis doesn't even have to try very hard to nab someone even with overwatch - just wait for girl to report in, grab soul gem and run, and girl slumps over and still appears to be right there. It'd take 30 seconds or so for anyone to notice unless they're on the ball, like Enshi was.

Lewd alert, lewd alert. Please report to nearest Purity Enforcement Official at earliest opportunity, this will be your only warning.
>>
>>27367925
But I just left her place this morning
>>
>>27367925
Officio, damn.

Anyway, still don't think that checks out because how would she not notice someone taking her gem even if they could do it that easily? Surely she'd be flapping about or trying to communicate before flopping down were that the case. I guess if they were super-fast it might work, but even then, invisibility, super-speed, and being able to nab the gem like that is really convoluted an explanation.
>>
>>27367960
A "don't notice me" field works perfect for that.
>>
>>27368026
I suppose, mostly the issue then is that the callidus squad explicitly looking out for other callidus and each other, led by the officio's best callidus, didn't notice an illusion. Which would be pretty dumb, and basically telling us 'no point relying on anyone but Chiaki because any enemies can outdo your own experts at their own game'.
>>
>>27368026
>not noticing as she steps in close
>reporting in even as you ignore her hand round your neck
>blinking slightly and wondering why you feel faint as blood leaks out around her knife as it cuts out your throat
>wondering why the world suddenly blinks out of existence as she walks away holding your necklace soul gem as you struggle to report in again
>>
>>27368100
Except, Enshi DID notice there was something wrong - possibly an illusion.
She can't be everywhere after all.
>>
>>27366740
Or the opposition has some Callidus within their number.
Being outclassed by one of the two things that we know you can't reliably defend against is not a sign of incompetence, especially if this rogue group of MG's is using anti-MG equipment.
>>
>>27368100
We don't have a Callidus squad; we only have one Callidus. We have a Vindicare squad.

Goddamn, this feels like another "Get fucked" moment with all of these calls for trying to sound badass professional instead of actual professional.
>>
>>27368168
Noticing after they've already executed their plan and abandoned stealth isn't exactly doing her credit, and that still leaves the illusion-detecting capability of the rest of Squad Hiryuu looking pretty bad.

Really, it's not even a power thing - every character will have weaknesses that can be exploited, after all. But when you set up a perimeter, have it guarded against everything you can think of, and it's breached not because of a huge gap in your preparation but 'lol your enemy has the perfect power to make all your preparation useless' (this is assuming it's a callidus ability like >>27368026, still room for Decu to outthink us instead of course), that just makes it feel like the preparation was pointless in the first place and could be skipped entirely.
>>
>>27368517
>that still leaves the illusion-detecting capability of the rest of Squad Hiryuu looking pretty bad.
Oh, you mean the ability tht we've been told required manifesting our Soul Gem and concentrating on it, taking that person away from paying attention to anything else? Such as watching the crowd, and the Magical Girls in it.

And wasn't Ayumu the Vindicare we pulled from her station to take out Mine's limo? At least one girl was, and I'm pretty sure this is a domed stadium so there's no line of sight from their sniper perches to the parking lot.
>>
>>27366549
Decu, when you wake up and look at this thread, consider this option to start the next thread.

Given the utter bullshit that happened upstairs, Chiaki CANNOT fight these guys. And she will not go to meet them on their terms, if they want to talk to her, they need to talk to her in person. She can arrange for a neutral meeting at her officio. It's stupid for her to negotiate with these ladies.
