Hi and welcome to another edition of Succubus Lord Quest! Last time on Succubus Lord Quest, we started off by Brooklyn going off to see his Uncle and Sister, whom she hasn’t seen for a long time. While they were certainly shocked by Brooklyn’s changes, they were more than accepting of them. After a heartfelt reunion, Brooklyn and Wilhelmina went over to the Okarian Library, to where Brooklyn saw what she probably considered the greatest sight of her entire life. Mountains upon mountains of books. Deciding it was best to join a study group, Brooklyn met four new characters: The Bard/Sorcerer Nona, The Archologist/Battle Mage Lamessa, the Druid/Summoner-In-Training Terra, and the Ex-Necromancer/Cleric-In-Training Madison. Some talk about the Adventurer class known as “Hero” was also discussed.

We now begin after from where we left off last session!

Also the second post was an ugly post with lots of eyesore text, which is now all compiled here!

“And that concludes my report on Wholestein’s review of Spirits Within the Natural World.” Terra says putting down the book. “And why it is better than the toilet that consisted of McFiggian’s.”

“McFiggian didn’t really have much to experiment on. Being from a desert world.” Lamessa replies while sipping tea.

“No excuse to get literally everything else wrong in his book. I’d interested in spirits, not pseudo-spirits.” Terra replies.

“That’s a little harsh isn’t it?” Nona asks.

“Respect is earned, not given.” Terra replies as she sips her herbal tea.

“Again sorry for not getting anything read for this meeting.” you say apologizing to the others while taking a bite out of a biscuit.

“Don’t worry about it Brooklyn. Heading to a first meeting is nothing but introductions anyways.” Madison says reassuring you. “Besides, you paid for the tea and biscuits.”

“Point.” you reply.

“So what were you thinking as your first book to read for the group Brooklyn?” Nona asks.

“Do you guys have some sort of rules for that?” you ask.

“Honestly, no. Feel free to read whatever tickles your fancy. It doesn’t even have to be magic related, as anything that’s either educational, informative, or entertaining is enough. For example, nearly half the books I read out to this group are history books.” Lamessa states.

Hm... A near infinite library and you need to pick out a book to read for the study group first....
>>
Oh right

+15 DP for gaining access to Okarian Library

+5 DP for joining a study group
>>
shitty thread, would not post.

Is Hero class Good At Everything or STUPID AWESOME AT EVERYTHING?

A book detailing the advantages and disadvantages of Mixing opposite elements with specialised training techniques to advance such a craft?
>>
>>27286866
Weren't we looking into Space control? Might be a good idea to get a book on that topic.
>>
>>27286866
Should start with something Brooklyn has some background in. Perhaps Dark/Space or Dimensional control? Drinking habits of Reapers?
>>
>>27286983

They have no bonuses to their straight skills, but rather their unique ability is that the power of their magic and techniques scale in comparison to the user.

This means despite a lifespan of an enlightened mortal, they can take on foes with literal thousands of years more experience and power than them.

However they're still killed just the same as any other mortal
>>
>>27286866
Light control maybe? We are basically self taught at that after all.
>>
>>27287027
I like this.
>>
>>27286866
Find a book on advanced tea preparation techniques to read for the study group.

All of us in this group spend piles of time drinking tea, it'd be useful for them.
>>
>>27287027

If there is a book on such I'd get behind such a plan!
>>
You take a long sip on your tea as you think hard about your choice. “Hm... I am a user of both dark and light magic innately.”

“Lucky bitch...” Nona mumbles under her breath.

“So I guess a book which has information about learning opposing pairs of magic. Both the implications of it.” you reply.

“Oh, like Ludo.” Lamessa replies.

“Who?” you ask.

“Ludo is a Greed Demon who hangs out here at the Library. He’s a pretty funny guy as is well liked by the other Succubi here.” Nona replies.

“He’s a shameless flirt and a pervert.” Terra replies.

“And unlike other Greed Demons he’s confident. Learning Fire, Water, Earth, and Air control all at once is no mean feat.” Madison replies. “This is in addition to psychic abilities as well.”

“Typical of all Greed Demons. Great magic power, almost nothing else.” Lamessa replies. “Anyways I think that’s a great book for you to start off as. I do think it’s better when a Sorcerer understands the powers they are wielding rather than not caring.”

(What do?)
>>
Let's get a book on either space control or demon politics. I think both could be useful to know right now.
>>
>>27287389
Let's do it!

Is there anything in particular the girls want to learn though?
>>
>>27287389

Ask them to help you find the book, cause we still don't know how to find shit in here, then once we check it out, see if there's anything left to the meeting. If not, we might want to head back to camp.
>>
>>27287389
Excellent.

Ask them where we could find Ludo. He seems interesting.

Has everyone else done their book review thing for today's meeting?
>>
>>27287389
Well this sounds interesting. Obtain while attempting to avoid asset squeezing. If Ludo is too lewd, we can use Space as a fall back.
>>
>>27287389

"A good point. My first attempt at combining them resulted in... an explosive outcome..."

This Ludo chap might be interesting, if he has telepathy, we can train our mental resistances by denying him our thoughts or feeding him false ones...

Sure we can go get that when appropriate.

“Could anyone offer to show me to the where I could find such a book?” you ask.

“UTFL.” Terra replies.

“Pardon you ask.”

“Terra, shut up.” Madison replies back to her. “It means, ‘Use the Fucking Librarians’.”

“Question, having fun Brooklyn?” Wilhelmina asks behind you. “Hey Lamessa.”

“Hey Hel.” Lamessa replies back to her.

“Oh Wilhelmina! Glad you dropped by!” you say happily. “...O-Oh shit! I lost track of time! What time is it now!?”

“Three hours after we split up.” Wilhelmina replies.

“Oh crap! I’m sorry I kept you waiting that long!” you say apologizing while standing up.

“Reassuring, no don’t think anything of it. I was busy reading myself.” Wilhelmina replies.

“That your ticket out of here?” Nona asks.

“Yea, it was nice meeting you all but I don’t want to keep Wilhelmina waiting any longer. Especially since I dropped in myself.” you tell the girls.

“That’s fine. Just remember that we meet up every Monday at 17:30. We only stay together for as long as group interest holds.” Lamessa replies.

“Alright! Take care girls!” you say waving off to them.

“...This is the section. ...I think.” Wilhelmina says as she looks through the area.

“Wow... I can’t believe there are so many books on this topic...” you say looking over all the books about combining elements. Sure you probably can only read a third of them due to language barriers, but even ignoring that you could be here for years.”

“Well the Librarian did suggest the books on the bottom row to start off with.” Wilhelmina says as she reads the slip of paper the Librarian gave you both.

“Let’s see...” you say landing from your hovering flight, kneeling on the ground to see the books in the bottom row.

As you kneel down on the ground, you can see an area below. It appears to be some sort of reading area in front of what appears to be a rather large fireplace. You notice what appears to be Greed Demon, but rather than reading a book, he appears to be sitting facing the walkway, both pairs of his hands tapping his fingers against each other while his masked face continues to look out for things. His cloak appears to be whitish color robe, a few royal house family symbols embossed on them.

“Hey Okie-honey!” The Greed Demon says to a passerby Okarian. “How about I teach you the runes your magic circles are missing, ‘Uo’ and ‘Mei’!”

The only reply the Okarian gives as she walks by is giving him a quick slap to his face with her tail.

“Nice try Ludo.” A nearby Succubus says.

“I’ll be here if you need me!” Ludo says pointing at the leaving Succubus with all four hands. “By the wa-”

“I’m doing my hair every night for the rest of the week.” the Succubus who replied earlier says an immediate response.

He knows this subject a lot better than we do, it'd probably be easier to ask him about the books to read than try to decide which one of the huge number of books to look through ourself.

So head over to him, ignore his flirting, introduce ourself, and start talking shop with him, ask about elements and elemental combinations, see if he has any good book suggestions.
>>
>>27288155
lets just ignore him
>>
>>27288155

Let us get a bit of base knowledge before interacting with Ludo... Don't want to let his ego inflate too much when meeting him... Better to meet him as an equal than as a beginner...
>>
>>27288155
Go and talk to Ludo.

It'd be a lot faster to get suggestions on what to read from someone who is an expert in this field then to sift through a pile of books and try to find good ones on our own.
>>
>>27288155
Encountering Ludo means we might get knowledge, but we actually have to interact with him.

Either continue to look without interacting with him or suck it up but make it clear that we're here for knowledge. Also, Greed Demons = Psychic, so if we can order any mental defenses, that'd be great.

“You know what? I heard Ludo was good at combining elements.” you say getting up and looking over the side of the railing.

“Yes he is. He’s learned all four natural e-... No. Please tell me you’re not thinking what I think you’re thinking.” Wilhelmina says looking at you.

You leap over the side of the railing, spreading out your wings to glide on down below to land in front of Ludo. “Excuse me Mr. Ludo.”

“Well hhhheeeelllllllllooo black dressed beauty. Now I know what you’re thinking, but... I DO actually have this afternoon free!” Ludo replies to you using all four of his arms in a welcoming gesture towards you.

“I’m a lesbian.” you quickly reply. “I’m here for something else though.”

“253. So what brings you here sexy?” Ludo.

“I said I’m not interested in that way. Look, I heard that you were a great user of the four natural elements right?” you ask.

“10325. No, not actually. I’m still missing the element that we have between us.” Ludo replies.

“Why do you say those random numbers before every statement.” Wilhelmina asks as she glides down next to you.

“Oh, I’ve resorted to mentally counting all the various rejection lines and insults women call me. I find it entertaining to keep a tally.” Ludo replies.

“OK. Then have you heard of this one.” Wilhelmina says before she belts out a long and complicated stream of german words.
>>
[2/2]

“Ohohoho...” Ludo laughs to himself. “Five.”

“Look! I just wanted to know if you can give me some advice about learning opposing magics!” you tell him.

“Oh, so that is the reason?” Ludo asks you.

“Y-”

“Fantastic. Now look at me. Now look at you. Now back to me.” Ludo says now holding an open palm on all four hands, each one showing an opposing element. “Sadly, you don’t have the magical capabilities I do, but if you bring your nose out of those dusty books, you can. Now look down. Now back up.”

As you do, you notice that Ludo is now in a fire form similar to what Katlin can do. “It’s the living personification of what burn to learn for. What’s in your hand? Now back to me." you then notice what appears to be a small grey stormcloud in Ludo's hand. "It’s a storm cloud combining both Air and Water elements. Now look again, the rain is now diamonds. Anything is possible when you study with Ludo rather than mere book learning.”

[1/2]

Shameless flirt aside, you give credit where credit is due. You give a small, but low volumed clap for his performance.

“Impressive! All I can manage is the creation of Light/Dark explosive constructs and grenades. I theorise that apply more power to the grenade would exponentially increase it's destructive force and explosive radius, however, I feel as though a purely offensive ability, while good in a fight, is not particularly helpful out of one... Might you be able to suggest a good place or approach to such learning?" you ask.

“Unfortunately the amount of aether needed for explosions follows the Square Root law.” Ludo replies as he turns off his fire form.

“Oh god damnit.” you say muttering to yourself.

“What’s wrong?” Wilhelmina asks.

“It means the explosion radius is going to be smaller compared to the actual amount of Aether I put into it.” you say, now sounding a bit sour.

“Ayup. Although this is solved somewhat when you apply the explosion to a flat plane only. This is great for bombing things on the ground, but considering that anything even a decimeter above the explosion will probably only feel a stiff breeze, it’s up to you whenever you’d want to sacrifice one of your attack axises in exchange for more area.”

“Wow I... Never thought you could do such a thing. You do know your stuff Ludo.” you reply.

“Once the ladies get a bite out of old Ludo, they never stop...” Ludo says basking in praise.

“Puking.” Wilhelmina replies.

“162.” Ludo replies.

"Interesting, but now for something new." you say as you raise your closed closed hands, generating an orb of light and darkness above them, then slowly start to bring them together. "So what you're saying is that to blend opposing magics stably, you have to make something new from them. Any suggestions for making this not go 'boom'?"
>>
[2/2]

“By not combining them in here for starters.”Ludo says grabbing the wrists of your hands and pulling them apart. “No, what you have is two inherently conflicting forces occupying the same space. You can produce a stabilization effect to help hold them together, but in all honesty any sort of impact that can break the stabilization effect, even a simple flick, will cause them to mingle and explode. It’s akin to matter and anti-matter.”

“You and women.” Wilhelmina adds.”

“...Na... Mixes too well. Point is that the natural state of the mixture is that it wants to explode, and it’s only by your will and aether reserves that it does not. The trick of often wrapping an orb of light in a shell of darkness works, but as soon as it comes into contact with something, the two mix and simply... boom. The other elements do the exact same thing. Fire and Water, Earth and Air.”

“...What happens if you combine all of them?” you ask.

“Big. Fucking. Explosion.” Ludo replies. “If you are looking for ways to increase the power without increasing the aether cost, then you’re going to need to find a way of how to make more of the elements combine with each other. See if you use a crappy shell, the opposing forces will touch each other, explode, then often destroy or scatter the rest of the element harmlessly. Figure out a way to make more of the opposing forces come into contact upon impact, and you’ll have a much more powerful explosion.”

“Any way to do that?” you ask.

“A few. The lazy, or Sorcerer’s, way of doing it would be to simply learn Fate Control to ensure that each opposing element mixture will use up more of the elements. The secondary aspect, one usually used for Wizards, or the winners, is that you attempt to reinvent the forms you use for each usage of the opposing element power.” Ludo replies.

Shape Charges, channel that energy

Multi layered shell is one more efficient form. Another alternative to try is to borrow from Nuclear Physics and use explosive compression.

>not making different elemental billiard balls, and then using a pool cue staff and fate control to make a chain explosion break shot as the opposing elements collide
clearly there's a lack of style going on here

Explosive compression definitely. One of the principle challenges of Nuclear bomb design is causing the maximum amount of fissile material be consumed before the explosion blows it apart.

1st design: Form standard grenade, surround with explosive soligram blocks (I think you use hexagons and pentagons to make a perfect sphere but w/e). Then detonate the soligam blocks, causing a channeled explosion that should hypercompress all of the light and darkness, causing a massive boom.

“So, one could theoretically use space control to hold the elements in a phase shift in the same place, then shift them all into the same plane simultaneously to ensure that all the reactants are in contact with each other?" you ask.

“...In theory, but you’d need to time it just right so that all the material phases into reality with each other. My main concern with that is you’d have the same energy occupying the same space on the space-time-aetherical grid. It may explode, or the force may result in the dissipation of the shot then the explosion happening a fraction of a second later, consuming more of the materials. It’s something you’d probably need to test, but you’d need spirit control or space control at reasonable levels to attempt something like that.” Ludo replies.

“Know any good books about this subject or mixing in general?” you ask.

“Well... I have a few back at my place we can discuss over d-”

“I have to meet a friend after this place.” you reply.

“12428.” Ludo replies.

“No, I’m quite serious, my friend is waiting for me after the library.” you reply.

“Room for two?” Ludo asks.

“...She’s my girlfriend.” you reply.

“I don’t hear a no...” Ludo chimes.

“Books.” you state.

“Fine. The ‘Valsion Specifica’ by Dr. Brian is the best go to in this, quite dense but is considered the forefather for the modern understanding of the mixing of elements. I’d also suggest to get ‘Understanding Valsion’ by Raymond Trikes, as while I feel he does miss out on some aspects of Dr. Brian, he does make a lot easier to understand some of the concepts.” Ludo replies.

“Lastly, is there a testing facility to test spells within the library?” you ask.

“Yes, down in the basement.” Wilhelmina replies.

“Thanks Ludo!” you say as you spread your wings and fly off.

“THANK ME BY GETTING ME A DATE!” Ludo calls out in response as you fly off.

“Are you really going to do this...” Wilhelmina sighs as you enter the blasting range.

“Of course!” you say entering the spell range. For a second you are surprised by the incredibly large underground dome that appears at least a dozen times larger than Amanda’s underground spring. A few Okarian’s can already be seen in boths. Some of them reading off some sort of ritual spell from a piece of paper on the wall, a few others can be seen tinkering with some sort of magical device, while a few others have themselves or summoned spirits lobbing spells at what seems to be a small, ruined practice city similar to the ruins near Fort Hope, albeit seeming to constantly exploding in some fashion.

“Wow... The booths are bigger than I expected.” you say standing in the booth you rented.

“Confused, what. If anything they’re too small. You can’t test the bigger magic circles here.” Wilhelmina says.

“Good enough for my purposes.” you reply.

“Inquiry, do you also want to rent some target practice.” Wilhelmina asks pointing to a slot nearly.

“TARGET PRACTICE IMPS. ONE SILVER FOR ONE, ONE GOLD FOR 10. NOTE: USER WHO BREAKS OR STEALS THE COIN BOX WILL PERFORM CLEAN UP AND MAINTENANCE DURING LIVE SPELLCASTING TESTING.” the box says with a note.

“They’ll grow back! Now! If I understand the principle of explosive compression right, these crystal, mathematically arranged by me after an hour of formulas, should attempt to hyper compress the light and darkness inside before exploding! Since the outer shell is darkness on each one, them touching shouldn’t merely set it off, but to be extra sure I put a bit of water between the layers. The ball follows a small arc to a nearly rock building, in which upon impact with the side of the building. The explosion that follows is certainly quite large and impressive, instantly levelling all but the door frame.

“Hm...” you say scratching your chin.

“Inquiry, What’s wrong. You got a big explosion.” Wilhelmina asks.

“The explosion... It was bigger than normal but not as big as I mathematically predicted. It seems I managed to hyper compress some of the darkness and light, but the majority is still being used up and destroyed when the explosion happens.” you say.

“I know the feeling. I myself am training for a new spiritual sword spell, a really good one I know of. It’s extremely powerful and I can cast it, but the problem is that it takes way too long and I’m way too open.” Wilhelmina replies.
>>
>>27291841
instead of trying to hypercompress an entire orb, make opposing bars of darkness and light, then when the explosion forces them together in the center it will be as perfectly symmetrical as possible.
>>
>>27291841
So we've gone from small frag grenade to leveling a building, that's an improvement. Next, try a multi-layered shell. If that shows improvement, combine the two principles for even bigger explosion.
>>
>>27291841
If we have the time and the aether we should keep practicing and taking notes on what works, what doesn't work, and why.
>>
>>27291841

Is it bad that I'm seriously thinking that asking Amanda to run the calculations and work out improvements to the design is a perfectly acceptable idea? Cause I'm thinking we should do that when we next meet up with her...

but for now; >>27291933 is a good idea...
>>
>>27291938
personally I'd like us to try making a Tandem warhead. just think Light and darkness Hellfire missiles.

>>
>>27291841
hmm, if we made a cloud of darkness particles and fired a light beam through it would we get a thermobaric explosion?
>>
>>27292010

>>
>>27292138

that might be because our light control is weaker than our darkness
>>
>>27292187

>>
>>27292168
but if their in a cloud of magical darkness then odds are they can't see
>>
>>27292206
I was thinking of the efficiency of using the opponents own attack to power half of the explosion.
>>
>>27292219
true but then you could just drop the cloud on them, it works the same in the end
>>
>>27292206
Hmm, actually, this gives me an interesting idea. Take the annihilator beam's shell concept, but shrink it into a tiny mist of what appears to be darkness. Just as blinding as a normal darkness cloud, but anyone who attacks through it will set off many small explosions, not necessarily strong enough to harm anyone, but deafeningly loud when that close, and bright.

If it works correctly it'd be like if you turned the lights out and rigged a flashbang to detonate if someone tries to turn the lights back on.
>>
Guys, we are over-thinking things. The reason the explosives in an A bomb are in the mathematically precise hexagons and pentagons they are is so that you can assemble the explosives around the fissile material. However we are forming our explosives using magic, so we can just make it a basic sphere shell and give no fucks.
>>
>>27292533
HAH! Score one for Magic!
>>
>>27292203

You know, I was just thinking, that's probably the real reason Sand switched to DP. I doubt he expected this story to go quite so long, and the way we were going we were becoming badasses way too fast for the setting. This way we get a sense of progression while significantly slowing down our growth. It's a pretty good trick, but it sucks that it happened while our light and dark were at two different levels.
>>
>>27292533
more like we're underthinking things. we're applying science to magic, but forgot to apply the magic to the science.
>>
>>27292187
Nah, actually, that just means that everything's at Good not Great! level. The problem in that regard is that with the old system, ~ a week's solid (but not all-consuming) training would have given us Good to Great!, now...

[1/2]

For the next bit of time, you try what you consider new shapes, but no matter what you do the result ends up the same. The timing of the explosion starting seems to be off, and this isn’t something that can be solved with some quick calculations. At times like this you wish you had one of those fancy old world arithmetic calculators to do this faster, but literal assassinations have been performed over such devices.

“...I’m going to need to ask Amanda about this...” you mutter to yourself, tapping a quill against the piece of paper. “...What are you doing Wilhelmina?”

Wilhelmina is standing a few feet away in the booth, holding her sword out in front of her. She has her eyes closed and appearing to be in some sort of concentration. It’s then she gives a small stomp of her foot, making a peach coloured spell circle spill out and onto floor below.

“...Oh...” you say, realizing what she intends to do.”

“...Zen... Ko... To... Sha...” Wilhelmina says beginning not only a change, but various body positions with each word. “Kai... Ne... Shen... YEN!”

Wilhelmina surprises you with the last word, it being said full of emotion. It’s then that the seven positions on the spell circle with symbols seem to pop up, each one of them being a different colour of spectrum before drifting towards Wilhelmina’s sword and into it. One after one the spirits go inside, her sword glowing bright and bright before it erupts in spiritual energy. Quite massive in length, unable to see the exact size but at least as tall as the Poseidon that Langy used.
>>
[2/3]

Wilhelmina grits her teeth before she raises her sword above her head and brings it down with a step forward, the spiritual sword also coming down as well, over to a nearby multi-story building. The spirit sword carves itself into the side of the building, literally beginning to cleave it half, Wilhelmina gritting her teeth the entire time. It eventually stops after a few seconds, the huge gash going nearly down the center of the building, but stopping only two thirds of the way down.

“...Damn... Spell circle’s not big enough...” Wilhelmina says looking at the vanishing spell circle.

“Wilhelmina! That’s very impressive!” you say congratulating her.

“No... It’s not... The exact movements needed for the spell and the long incantation means that I’m a massive target. People who know I’m casting something can move away, and the final piece is that I only get one slash. Powerful, but too many factors against it.” Wilhelmina says putting her sword away. “I’m trying to figure out a way to solve one of those problems, let alone all of them.”

“Well you’re in the testing arena, so we can try testing it now.” you tell her.

“Our time’s almost up. Plus, maintenance time.” Wilhelmina says pointing towards a target floating in the area.
>>
[3/3]

As you look up, you can see what appears to be a young girl wearing a black Librarian dress, flying above the arena, not caring about the various projectiles flying through the air. Once the attacks die down however, the girl raises her hands into the air, clapping them together as both brown and green glows can be seen from her hands. Charging up before she unleashes what appears to be a whirlwind down on the testing site below, the hurricane violently tearing any and all structures apart completely and without mercy as if it were filled with monofilament wire. However as the dust clears, you notice that what is left behind in the wake is nothing but brand new buildings made out of rock.

“...That’s... very impressive magic.” you say to yourself, watching as the small girl seems to slowly descend next to some Librarian bodyguards.

“Because that’s Mary Subota.” Wilhelmina replies.
>>
>>27292819
We must go over and ask how she's doing, and write down the answer for Oksana.

bothering a Subota, didn't you rad the last thread? that's a bad idea right now
>>
>>27292909

It is highly unlikely that we would get close enough to talk to her seeing as though we are both new, and unproven. Given the nature of our goals, in time we will be able to either meet with her, or get summoned... either way, it will take time, patience and results to do... When we meet up with the others, we should get a basic overview on each clans situation. If we are going to unite the clans, or at least end the war, we need to find out the stakes each clan has in it and attempt to find an alternative supply/outlet...

Odds are telling any Okarian about the queen's existence is a bad idea, as they are just as likely to try to stop us or kill her as they are to try and help us.

>Ability: Magic-Fight. A rare ability that Okarians and Greed Demons know. Increases the maximum possible range of all spells in addition to briefly increasing the power of any spells used at range and their accuracy. This ability is ranked, and the bonuses increase depending on the rank. If taken now this ability will naturally increase as Brooklyn grows in power. Three ranks gained upon selection

>Magic-Fight
>Each rank in this skill slightly increases spell accuracy, range, and power for all spells.
>BATTLE-MAGE BONUS: Range bonus instead is applied as a movement speed bonus.

Why is our rare special sniper ability for spells to have big ranges and increased power at long range now just a boring general power boost that a close combat specialist gets as well?
>>
>>27293797

Because she's an Okarian?

I think it's rare in a general context. Not within Okarians.
>>
>>27293797
>Okarians and Greed Demon
basically Aides, and other magic proficient demons can't get that
>>
>>27293797

Because she's an Okarian as well?

>I mainly want to see your... tactics as it were towards it. Your drive of how you plan to handle this.” Sebastian says.
>You think on how to reply to this...
>A) “I always pull through when the going gets tough.” (+3 ranks of Potential)
>B) “My... unique abilities are rather strong.” (Ability: Aether Burn.)
>C) “Bring them on. I’m confident in my staying power.” (Ability: EN Save)
>D) “...I think at this point I can probably hit at long distances just as well as you can.” (Ability: Magic-Fight.)
>E) “Dark/Light is my speciality.” (Ability: [Elemental] Speciality.
>F) “I’m able to keep my cool to a certain extent in the middle of battle, so I have a better idea of what the enemy is about to do.” (Ability: Predict.)
So we got a "choose your specialisation/combat style" choice. And we picked the long-range combat ability . And the ability we got is now literally "all spells are a bit stronger" which is as generic and boring as it gets and everyone has it which seems redundant as Okarians are meant to be better at magic anyway. Which means we missed out on a lot of awesome abilities we could have picked for nothing.
>>
>>27293907
I think he thought it was rare within the Okarian and Greed Demon races
>>
>>27294061
>Okarians are meant to be better at magic anyway.
we learn it faster that's it. without Magic-Fight our magic is equal to anyone at the save control level, with it we hit harder and shoot farther.
>And the ability we got is now literally "all spells are a bit stronger"
as only Okarians and Greed Demons can learn it we out range any other race magic users and some of our own race as not everyone will have it

And how common it is doesn't change the fact that we voted for a skill that "increases the maximum possible range of all spells in addition to briefly increasing the power of any spells used at range and their accuracy" and now have something completely different instead.
>>
>>27294217

I don't think it's entirely a racial skill. However, she's a BATTLE MAGE. I imagine, of all Okarians, they are some of the most common to have it. Not ever Okarian is a warrior but those that are could quite possibly have Magic Fight.
>>
>>27294263
>increasing the power of any spells used at range and their accuracy" and now have something completely different instead.
but it isn't?
Magic-Fight
Rank: 3
Each rank in this skill slightly increases spell accuracy, range, and power for all spells.
it's the same damn thing it's been since it got added to our sheet
>>
>>27294285
Why would a battle mage (close combat, uses a sword and aether shield) commonly have a skill that increases the power and accuracy of spells used at range?

I meant racial as in only those races can learn it

BATTLE-MAGE BONUS: Range bonus instead is applied as a movement speed bonus.

>>
>>27294308

>BATTLE-MAGE BONUS: Range bonus instead is applied as a movement speed bonus.

Because she's got a variant that's movement speed instead of range? We've got the ranged version, she's got the melee version.
>>
>>27293907
Sand why dose the weeaboo succubus summon Chinese spirits?
>>
>>27294303
It's like you can't read. The original skill increased the power and accuracy of spells USED AT RANGE. Hitting things from further away hits them harder. This is very different to just "all spells are more powerful".

>>27294324
>>27294336
What, her spells are more powerful if she's moving fast? Just give them their own skill that increases movement speed and power of buff/touch spells or some shit. A battle-mage variant of a sniper ability makes no sense.
>>
>>27294486

No, it increases her speed AND the power of her spells. Battle mages don't get weaker ranged spells, they just don't get sniper spells (There are probably some battle mages who focus on magical 'shotgun' attacks with the high mobility).

We also don't get weaker melee spells. We just get a boost to the range of all spells.

We do have a sniper ability. It's just not exclusively sniper.
>>
>>27294486
>It's like you can't read. The original skill increased the power and accuracy of spells USED AT RANGE
It was never we hit harder at long range, it was always we hit harder and have greater range.
>What, her spells are more powerful if she's moving fast? Just give them their own skill that increases movement speed and power of buff/touch spells or some shit. A battle-mage variant of a sniper ability makes no sense.
it's simple her spells have normal range, boosted power and accuracy and she closes the gap to melee range faster.
>>
>>27294555
>It was never we hit harder at long range
"Increases the maximum possible range of all spells in addition to briefly increasing the power of any spells used at range and their accuracy"
Is English not your first language or something?
Briefly increasing power and accuracy of spells used at range. Can't really be any clearer. It is brief, and not a permanent boost to all spells. It is a boost to spells only when they are used at range. That is what it said.

>>27294536
>No, it increases her speed AND the power of her spells.
Yes, but it shouldn't.
>Battle mages don't get weaker ranged spells, they just don't get sniper spells.
Fair enough.
>We also don't get weaker melee spells.
Indeed. Weaker in comparison to our stronger ranged spells which we specialised in, but not weaker than normal.
>We do have a sniper ability. It's just not exclusively sniper.
It should be.
>>
>>27294536
>Battle mages don't get weaker ranged spells
we they do, but that's a side effect of the Aether shield spell rather then something inherent to their magic
>>
>>27294666
range is anything that isn't contact
>>
>>27294382

She cares not where it comes from in Asia.

>>27294486

You misread the ability. Magic Fight doesn't mean the further away you are the more damage you do. Just that your spells have more power, accuracy, and range overall. Hell, it even boosts the power of Brooklyn's Light Axe Crusher (apart from the range, which is still melee), simply because the Okarian bonus allows her to add Darkness element to the attack. Think of this as the Okarian ability to more naturally channel magic into things. My wording may have been off, but this was my intent.

As to why Wilhelmina has Magic Fight? Simple, she's a fighter Okarian. However give the Aether shield bonus would nullify the range bonus, I just allowed it so that she can move faster. One of the perks of being a battle mage.
>>
>>27294687
Ok? But current magic fight works on contact spells. It even works on spells you cast on yourself, like aether shield.
>>
>>27294670

Well, even then it's only at long range. Hence my mention of 'Shotgun' (In the video game sense, not actual shotguns) spells.
>>
>>27294704
>aether shield.
is a projected field range is like inches, even melee spell auras have miniscule range.
but all this is irrelevant as Sand >>27294688
has laid down the law
>>
>>27294688
>My wording may have been off
Or eloquently describing a different ability. Why would you have two separate clauses of the sentence specifying that the range applies to all spells but the power and accuracy apply to something else if you just want to increase the range, accuracy and power of all spells? What is brief about a permanent boost to everything? I seriously don't see how it is possible to write that while intending what you say you intended. More likely you changed your mind and forgot about it.

>Think of this as the Okarian ability to more naturally channel magic into things.
So why did we have to choose it instead of getting it naturally by being an Okarian?
>>
>>27294981
it's always been like this on the character sheet once it was added to the sheet
Magic-Fight
Rank: 3
Each rank in this skill slightly increases spell accuracy, range, and power for all spells.

"Everything" is much too vague of a word for me, so I made the of the things I wanted it to buff. Secondly, there is an ability you're describing. In-Fight boosts the power of melee moves, their accuracy, and movement speed of user. Only Belkarians and Ashuran's can learn that though, so I had to alter Wilhelmina's Magic fight. I planned for it since the very beginning.

Secondly, choose what? The ability to naturally use magic in melee abilities? That was something that was done when Brooklyn first learned a melee technique that used Aether. As for getting the ability not at start? (1) I didn't have abilities back then. (2) Not every Okarian as it. Some may not be fighters, while others may have Elemental Focus instead (which I was highly tempted to give Wilhelmina instead of Magic fight for spirit)

Your first gut reaction is to head over and see if you can get an audience with Mary, but the warnings from earlier drift in your mind. From them just blasting you with an attack all the way to becoming a short-term servant for the library doing non-glamorous jobs like cleaning the washrooms or maintenance of the practice area while live fire exercises are underway. You decide against it for now. In order to get a proper audience with any of them, you’re going to need some sort of evidence.

“...Where do the Subota’s usually hang out?” you ask Wilhelmina as the practice ground once against sings to life with wild spells being flung every which way on the battlefield.

“Mary can be spotted around the library usually, but comes down here twice a week to clean the area like clockwork. Wendy Subota is usually either in her office or in her section of the library with her own study group.” Wilhelmina replies. “People who prefer dead silence go to that area. Do you have something to say to the Subota’s?”

“Na, just curious.” you reply.

“My advice is don’t bother. You’d need something that has deep and vested interest in the Okarian race or the library as a whole. That or be in one of the study group’s, which has a waitlist like you wouldn’t believe.” Wilhelmina replies. “Anyways, our time for this booth rental is almost up. Is there anything you want to do now?”

You give a small yawn, reaching into your pocket to check your watch. Hm... About 9:33 PM... Bit later than you thought and nearly time for bed. Of course you can stay up a bit later if you really wanted.

“Na I can’t think of anything. Let’s head back home.” you tell Wilhelmina.

“Question, what about Mina.” Wilhelmina asks.

“...Shit... Can you swing by and get Mina at the Fighter’s Guild? I’m about to drop dead myself.” you reply.

“Of course. Question, do you know the way.” Wilhelmina asks as you both begin to leave.

******

After a day long and very pleasant trip to the library, you begin to head back to the caravan. You leave with two books checked out from the library. The catch with the library is that while they are fairly lenient with how long you want to check the books out for, they are quite strict on the return policy. As not only they’ll charge out of the ass for it, but dispatch a Librarian to get the books back... Which you also pay for. You make a very strong, mental note to return these book within a week and a half’s time. That is assuming nothing completely disastrous happens during that time.

...Which appears to be the case as you step into the caravan area, seeing one of the caravan wagons is now only a withered husk, complete with the bits of cargo laying on the ground below it, workers now doing their best to gather up salvable remains.

“Lady Brooklyn! So nice of you to join us!” Amanda says, clapping with happiness as she approaches you, putting the charm on.
>>
[2/2]

“...Amanda... Why is that trailer a... burnt husk?” you ask her.

“Well you see, that is a fairly loaded question in itself.” Amanda replies.

“How is it a loaded question to ask why is something a burnt husk when this morning it was fine!?” you ask.

“Well you see, I didn’t take into account that the unique aetheric waves of one of our companions, when combined with cat hair, would ignite the caravan.” Amanda says.

“Fire and cat hair caused this!?” you ask.

“Mostly the latter. See the shielding device we had for the wagon reacted with the cat hair... While Nitroglycerin is a fickle material to work with. But rest assured Lady Brooklyn, one fifth of the tea that we brought with is still in drinkable condition.” Amanda says with a smile.

YOUR TEA!?

“This is why we can’t have nice things Amanda!” you reply to her. “They always catch on fire then blow up!”

>>
>>27299784
But there were two lists. Two separate groups of bonuses that apply to different things.
>Increases the maximum possible range of *all spells*
>in addition to briefly increasing the power of *any spells used at range* and their accuracy
If you wanted to just say "Increases the range, power, and accuracy of all spells" you would just have said that. Like on the character sheet.
Whether it was rare overall or rare among Okarians and Greed demons, that was ambiguous and I misinterpreted it, fair enough. What exactly "briefly increasing the power of any spells used at range" means, that could also be up for debate. But "permanently increasing the power of all spells whether they're used at range or not" is not a possible interpretation of it at all and you don't even seem to be acknowledging that.
If we can vote for an option that says "bow to Mary Subota" and then you can say "oh, I meant flip her off when I wrote that! You do and then she kills you" that is kind of a massive problem.
>>
>>27300531

We'll make sure not to kill any of the Subota girls, then.
>>
“One fifth...” you sigh while rubbing your forehead.

“On the bright side, this means that you’ll be able to sample all those exotic teas Old TO imports, the ones which you are always talking about!” Amanda says spinning the point.

“If there’s any more bad news, now’s the time to get it off your chest, now’s the time.” you say using your finger to give a poke at Amanda’s chest.

“Nothing you need to sully your hands with Lady Brooklyn, that I can assure you.” Amanda says with a small bow.

“...I’m going to contact the boss now. Make sure no one interrupts in my trailer.” you tell Amanda.

“Of course my Queen! I’ll make sure the twins let no one by!” Amanda tells you.

“*Without* setting my trailer on fire!” you say with emphasis before heading into your trailer.

Inside of the trailer, the first thing you do is put down your books and begin a fire. plopping down for a few moments before grabbing a nearby cookie and eating it. Staring out into space of the room, devoid of any thought other than waiting for the room to warm up. After a few minutes of waiting, you begin to draw the magic circle needed to summon Oksana and call her up into existence.

“Ah Brooklyn! How pleasant to see you again!” Oksana says as she materializes in front of you. She looks around the room briefly. “I see you’re in a trailer. Have you made it to Toron- ‘Old TO’ yet?”

“Yes and the trailer containing my tea stash has already caught on fire...” you mutter as you flop down into the chair.

“...Things have a habit of burning then exploding around you, don’t they?” Oksana asks after a few seconds pause.

"It was Amanda's fault. Her shielding device explodes when it touches cat hair or something. I was in the library and had nothing to do with it." you say waving it off.

“Oh... The Library uh?” Oksana says sounding interested.

“You don’t need to hint. Yes your daughters are alive and well. All three of them.” you reply to Oksana.

“All three!?!?” Oksana says in a surprised voice.

“Yes, but I only say Mary with my own eyes.” you tell Oksana. “Thing is I can’t get close to them since they’re in the whole ‘running the Okarian race and Library thing. Tell me i-... Are you crying?”

Oksana herself now appears to be crying what appears to be tears of joy. “Oh my god... I’m... I’m so, so happy right now... All three of my little girls are alive and well... I-I always feared the worst in that they’d be put to death and the Library being under Greed Demon rule completely b-but... For them...” Oksana’s words at this point become illegible, unable to be heard over the sobs of Oksana herself.

You’re actually quite surprised to see a Demon Queen like this. You always suspected Demon Kings and Queens to be utterly ruthless, but Oksana outpouring of emotion is clearly visible.

“Sorry you’re... kinda insubstantial and the moment so I really can’t give you anything for those tears.” you tell Oksana.

Oksana gives a small laugh in between her sobs, her voice being muffled by her wizard robe sleeves. “Oh don’t worry about stupid things like that Brooklyn! I’m... I’m just so happy to hear my girls are alive.” Oksana gives one more big sniffle and a sigh before pulling herself away from her sleeve. “Still... the hard part for me comes now.”

“Hard part?” you ask.
>>
[2/3]

“Waiting. I can tell you right now Brooklyn, that the waiting part is going to be a lot more painful for me than it would be for you, but... our security can’t be compromised, so I’m still forced to wait.” Oksana replies.

“Speaking of your daughters, is there any way to correctly go about speaking to them? I mean not only getting to meet them properly, as if I waste their time they’ll probably set me on fir-”

“Wendy would. Mary would hit you with a weak bolt of lightning.” Oksana replies.

“That’s just as bad!” you point out. “Well there’s that problem, then there’s the issue of them probably being watched all the damn time.”

“Oh, there’s absolutely no question about that. Pretty much all of the Greed Demons in the library... I’m assuming those bastards forced their way in?” Oksana asks.

“Yup.” you reply.

“Then those things are loyal to their house, and any situation where the Okarians hold power of them greatly disturbs them. Furthermore they probably have an Envy Demon keeping tabs on each of them at all times.” Oksana mentions.

“Then how the hell do I even get in contact with them!?” you ask.

“I don’t know!” Oksana says snapping back with a hint of anger.

“I... Apologize. I forgot for a second that they’re your daughters.” you reply.

“No... No I’m fine. Believe me Brooklyn, I’m more anxious than you are to meet them. Just... That meeting them may put you on the Pride Demon information network.” Oksana mentions.

“Information network?” you ask.
>>
[3/3]

“Yes. Getting in to see them is no problem. I can give you information that will surely get you a private audience with either one or even both of them. The main issue here is risk. The Pride Demons will make a note of you entering to see the girls. Now they won’t know will take place in your private meeting, assuming the girls remember what I taught them about warding, but they’ll know that you went into the room and came out of it. They’ll also monitor the girls behavior, and most likely begin to trail you for... a least a day or two after meeting up with them.”

“God damnit...” you mutter yourself with a facepalm.

“Now Mary is a Laminian. She’d probably be able to get rid of anyone who attempts to track her rather easily. The main issue would be getting the information to her in a discrete manner.” Oksana tells you.

“This is going to be tricky as hell...” you mutter to yourself.

“Yes, but you’ll have the thanks and support of my daughters if you do pull this off.” Oksana says, before giving a pained sigh. “But... security comes first and foremost as usual.”
>>

“OK, no problem. I simply get some Laminian to deliver a note to meet me in a certain location, and presto.” you reply.

“Mary does have a dwelling with the Laminians, but that Library was where I lived as a Queen. I had rooms installed for all the girls.” Oksana tells you.

“...You’re telling me that...”

“They most likely don’t leave. Non-Okarians are not allowed in either.” Oksana replies. “This... still isn’t a problem. You just need to be a bit more... creative in a way. I’m sure paying a large sum of money to an Okarian to deliver the note would work. As would a Laminian if you want to pay for that service. Or if you have someone very skilled at mental manipulation, get an Okarian, program her with an instruction to deliver the note, then when she does so have no recollection of either you or delivery.”

“Would a delivery Imp work?” you ask.

“Yes, but all Imps are instructed to drop off notes at the front desk. I’d probably reach my daughters but only after they determine the letter doesn’t have a Fate trap.” Oksana says, before another light seems to go into her head. “...You could... Make a note with the Subota family seal. That would go directly to the girls.”

“...And the catch...” you say.

“Horrifically illegal.” Oksana says. “Granted you do have my permission to do this. I can teach you the shape and the aetheric imprint that goes with it. Go to any forgery expert and they’ll gladly make one for you. ...Just... be sure to tell my daughters about it after so they’ll go after the new counterfeit stamp.”

just a reminder Ada has
Enhanced Suggestion (Good!)
You influence the actions of the target creature by suggesting a course of activity (limited to a sentence or two). The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the activity sound reasonable. Asking the creature to do some obviously harmful act automatically negates the effect of the spell. The suggested course of activity can continue for the entire duration. If the suggested activity can be completed in a shorter time, the spell ends when the subject finishes what it was asked to do. You can instead specify conditions that will trigger a special activity during the duration. If the condition is not met before the spell duration expires, the activity is not performed. At this level, success is measured in how many hours the suggestion lasts.
Aether use: Low
EXTRAS
Hidden Message!: When you give a suggestion, you can hide the suggestion rather than mention it in words. (EX: If your say, “Gee it’s a nice day, isn’t it?”, you can actually make the Suggestion of “Kill Timmy for me.” People around you will be shocked when the person you talked to suddenly runs off and kills the man next door)
Enhanced Memory Rewriting (Good!)
This ability covers rewriting a person’s memory. Targets must be able to communicate with the user. User is able to force a target to forget all memories associated with a certain thing within the past five years, even if they are emotionally attached. (Such as forgetting he ever had a steady girlfriend). Single Target spell.
Aether use: Medium
Craft Memory!: May also add memories to the victim rather than removing them. Memories at this stage can only go back five years in duration, but roughly anything is fair game (Such as convincing a target you moved into his house last year or that he knows you as a friend of some sort)

“We got two social manipulators in our little band. I’m confident that we could arrange something, but in the meantime I need what your family seal is.” you tell Oksana.

Oksana looks a bit nervous, before she finally makes a small motion of her hand, a hologram of her family seal appearing. “Here it is in full. Be sure to take notes of the depth the stamp has as well, in addition to the spiritual signature.”

“Done and done...” you say making your own soligram, molding it into a shape before you show it to Oksana.

Oksana looks at the stamp and nods. “The shape works, but bring it to a real forgery expect and let them duplicate it. The aetheric signature will... be a little more complex. It’s in the Beta section of Aetheric waves, length of 4245.5. A small deviation of 10 over or under won’t matter, but try to keep it in within those areas.”

“Pardon for the interruption.” Wilhelmina says to both you and the twins.

“Oh no worries Lady Wilhelmina. It was only the brute that forced her way past us.” Stacy says with a bit of annoyance in her voice.

“Brooklyn! Brooklyn! I went out and did so many things today!” Mina says. “First I went to the Fighter’s Guild, I was winning then I fought against some Ranger and got my butt kicked. But then I went downtown and got you some herbal tea!”

Mina then takes off a pouch from her side, putting it on the table. As you open it up, you surely find that there is a large portion of tea inside.

“Excellent! A high point of my day! Come girls, let us make some tea before bed, shall we?” you ask everyone.

What? No.

The relationship "inverse square" means y=k/x2, for some variables x and y and context-dependent (but measurable) constant k, and I'm not sure what variables you're trying to slot in there. (The obvious variables are "power of explosion" and "expended mana", but an inverse relationship between them is flat-out ridiculous.)

While "square root law" is awkward wording ("proportional to the square root" would have been better), it's still reasonable. (I read it as meaning "the square of the power of the explosion is proportional to the mana expended", or more straightforwardly, "the power of the explosion is proportional to the square root of the mana expended", or equivalently, P=k√m, for (again) some context-dependent k.)

>>
>>27304450
Given the context of explosions, he obviously meant the inverse square law.
When you have a force radiating out from a point, it spreads over the surface of a sphere (and as r increases, surface area increases with r^2, diminishing the force with the inverse square). This is why bombs in real life have diminishing returns.
So, if you increase the power at the center of a vanilla explosion by a factor of x, the force at a point r units away increases by a factor of x/(r^2).

How is trying to do our spells better different from training exactly?
>>
>>27305033
does it really matter? it was an experiment to see if that was a viable way of boosting our damage. now that we know that it is we can train to try and perfect the technique. It's about the scale of what we were doing not the content

I'm claiming that the scale of what we did doesn't count as training. it's the difference between trying technique once, and trying to perfect said technique.
>>
>>27305950

we spent 3 hours there 20:30
