Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are LUCAS WILLIAMS, a student in the Sturmfuhrer Academy a graduate from its elite TIER ONE Program.

You also found out that your squad sniper, Morgan, is actually a girl posing as a boy, for reasons still unstated. However, you agreed to keep the whole thing a secret from the rest of the your squad.

You also found out in the middle of your training that you had a hidden dark side, a destructive bloodlust that triggers whenever you see someone you care about get hurt. Thankfully, you've been taking special training to suppress that urge, so it really shouldn't be a problem in the foreseeable future.

You've now graduated from Tier One, and now are an official part of the Demons of Randgriz. Not only does this meant that your school days are over, but also that you're now expected to fight when called on.

And that time came rather quickly, as you were called upon to eliminate a group of troublesome pirates, though it was a relatively simple mission. However, now you're being sent on an actual campaign in exotic lands across the Atlantic. And you're going to ride there in style...

I hereby claim this thread in the name of me.

I've had a crazy idea. Just... just hear me out. How about... we spend some time... getting to know the other guys in our squad. Crazy, I know. Runaround needs some talking to, Edwin needs some character development, we need to talk to Simo and Bragg...
But who am I kidding.
>>

You dare suggest we actually spend time away from our waifus?!

It's about fucking time

Where did you even get the funds? A really loud bird with no sense of volume?
>>
>>27230168
We've got four girls after us. Both Sturmfuhrer twins (possibly), Lucina, and Morgan.

We need some friends of our own gender.

What're you implying? That I funded the construction of the Volume Control?

I fully agree. I don't think Runaround has ever had a solo convo with Lucus YET

CODEX ENTRY UNLOCKED

GNS Kestrel Megafloat-Class Mobile Airfield

While the Demons had enjoyed much success in using Gallian engineered weapons and equipment, there has always been a traditional limitation that hampered their efforts to act as an international mercenary company. Since the Gallian military was always intended to be a defensive army, logistics were never a priority because it was assumed Gallians would always be fighting on home territory. It was at this point the Demons realized the necessity in adopting foreign equipment, or even just creating their own in order to make up for the gap in capability.

It was during one of these times where Jager complained offhand how he wished they had a "mobile airfield" of some sort. While accounts vary, Qyburn overheard this remark and allegedly cackled quite madly.

The resulting Megafloat-Class Mobile Airfield is Qyburn's magnum opus. Using the salvaged remains of the Hresvelgr and Excalibur, the production facilities of the once defunct Hydrian Mountain facility in Belka, and six years of development, Qyburn finally achieved what was thought to be impossible. A flying aircraft carrier, that put the seabound ones developed by Emmeria and the Federation to shame.

The secret behind the Kestrel's operation is the "Ragnite Reactor", a revolutionary new power source that Qyburn developed. However, knowledge on how this device was created or even works remains highly secret. The only known fact was that it runs off very rare and pure forms of ragnite, and that even a pebble of it could power the ship for decades.

The ship itself is literally a floating city, able to carry several squadrons of aircraft as well as a small army for ground operations.

However, having only recently been finished, the Kestrel and the Megafloat-Class as a whole remains untested. How it would perform in battle is anybody's guess...

Your farewell to the Academy and Castle Sturmfuhrer was quite an emotional one. Everybody's parents were present to see them off, including yours. Mom couldn't stop crying and Dad just gave you the proudest grin. Tarin gave her daughter the barest, nonverbal grin while Ramirez locked her in a tight bearhug. You could almost swear you could see the hardened veteran crying his eyes out, though he'd never admit it. Jager and Sam were there too, though there were hijinks involved as Charlotte and Falynn swapped uniforms in order to utterly confuse their father, much to their amusement. Even Alek and Elsa showed up to bid their farewells to Simo and Morgan.

Heck, even Nemo showed up, since she was apparently tagging along to keep track of the Falcon's development. She had a brief but heartfelt meeting with Qyburn himself, now positively ancient and wheelchair bound. The old cooky scientist handed her a thick journal almost as old as he was and nodded before allowing himself to be pushed away.

And just like that, you were all on your way to a land you've never even heard of, let alone seen.

>>
>>27230591

You still never got quite used to the feeling of flying. It was just the way the planes moved and tumbled in the air that always gave you this mild, uneasy feeling that the craft was suddenly going to drop out of the air at any given moment. It didn't help that the crew and pilots just LOVED talking about well known aerial disasters just to mess with the ground pounders.

However, there were small mercies. The Kestrel itself was large enough that it wouldn't be buffeted and rocked by high winds or turbulence. In fact, riding the Kestrel felt far more comfortable than any ship you've been on. Unfortunately, the Kestrel wasn't particularly fast, and while a Skyranger could cross the Atlantic in under a day, the Kestrel would require almost four or five.

Well, this was a new ship, and that meant new people to meet! Or, you could always just track down any other Wraiths and hang out with them...

You decide to go track down Simo. You've got a good idea where he might be, considering he was pretty much the quintessential sniper. He's most likely be in the highest part of the ship, with the best view.

Sure enough, you find him sitting in the open air observation deck on the very top of the ship's main tower. He's just staring off at the distance, his eyes darting from one cloud to the next, as if he's subconsciously trying to judge their distance from him.

"Hey, Simo?" You announce yourself as you approach.

"Huh? Oh, hey Lucas." Simo sighs. Well, he doesn't seem annoyed and angry any more, which is a plus. But he's still clearly troubled.

"Oh, well... it's just the whole Morgan thing." Simo sighs. "I was keeping the secret for what, six years? Maybe more? So long I've completely forgotten. Then, one day, she just comes up to me and says she doesn't want to do it any more." Simo sighs. "You spend your life trying to keep a secret, to uphold a lie, an then all of a sudden you're just expected to stop it? That's just... rough."

"Not when my integrity is on the line." You respond resolutely. "I made a promise to Morgan not to tell anybody, including you."

Whats a good story without a healthy dose of drama.

A good story is one where characters you're emotionally invested in don't die or suffer bad things happening to them?

I'm afraid anon, that your tastes are suspect.
>>

Actually it was really the dice that decided it. Merc did a good job of using natural failures and successes to develop a romance that seemed natural, basically it came down to Same being the most obvious IC pick.

That's what I'm praying for innVMQ2 instead of whoever waifus and samefags hardest. I'm pretty optimistic because that nat failure and getting plastered is a good example of what I'm talking about. Let it happen with the rolls, don't just flirt with everyone.

Stupidity?

>>
>>27231735
"Honestly, who came up with a dumb idea like that?" You ask.

Simo laughs. "Oh man, it's great to hear somebody else think the whole scheme was stupid. I actually don't know where exactly the idea came from, but I have a strong suspicion it was from Elizabeth. I mean, she's a good spy and I'm sure she had good intentions, but I think she sort of forgot the person in question was a kid who didn't even hit puberty yet."

"Well, I guess even the best make mistakes." You nod.

"Like you wouldn't believe." Simo nods.

Well, at least the both of you found some common ground, and at least got rid of that gulf that had previously existed between the both of you. You feel that the conversation has run its course, but then again, there's always more things you could try and glean...

ICwise, with Lucina and the twins being childhood friends and the new revelation about morgan, it was a foregone choice.

Start of school, who do you look for, your best friend, your childhood friends or some strangers?

After we found morgan crying, with Lucas' character and the stuff he overheard at the end of the ex, it was very much in character to go after him (at that time) to see if he(at that time) was alright.

And if you actually note, we've never actually specifically chosen char. Shes always been shot down by other choices.

According to who? We've been just friends with them for 18 years, we could've easily gone just as we had before. And we barely knew anything about Morgan previously, even if my other points are invalid, we certainly didn't need to go for her.

"Yeah, well, I was just checking up on you. Gotta make sure our fearless team leader is doing okay." You say as you make your way back to the entry hatch.

"Hey, Lucas, for what's it worth, I'm sorry I was acting like an ass to you earlier." Simo says. "All that pressure having to keep a secret, you know?"

"Yeah, I understand." You nod.

You leave Simo to his devices on the observation deck as you reenter the ship. However, you sort of lose track of how many flights of stairs you're supposed to go down, and suddenly you realize you passed the level you were supposed to get off on and ended up on the lab level. Well, you haven't really said hi to Nemo yet, and you had to apologize for wrecking the Viper.

Unlike the Foundry, space was a premium on the Kestrel, so the lab section felt far more cramped as it was crammed full of experimental weapons and gadgets, not just for the troops but for the vehicles as well, primarily aircraft. You see Nemo working on a massive, aircraft mounted lance, though instead of a pointed tip, it tip of this lance was bulbous with some sort of camera embedded inside.

"Oh, Lucas, I didn't notice you coming in." Nemo blinks, her voice still sounding dull and tired. "What brings you here?"

"Oh, well, that's nice." Nemo nods. "In the case of vehicles, I usually assign blame to the driver, though. What was his name, Runamok? Gave him a good wrench to the knee to show my appreciation."

You wince. Poor Runaround. "So, uh, how's the Viper doing?"

"She's doing fine." Nemo grins. "Had to rebuild almost the entire rear section. I assume you've been taking good care of your own weapon?"

"Oh, the M60?" You say.

"Yes, did you find any issues with it during combat?" Nemo brings out a copy of the M60 and sets it down on a nearby work table. "I'm trying to develop a new MG so we don't have to rely on Emmerian designs, so I need some input on how to improve on it."

Operational Research has shown that accuracy doesn't help in the rate of enemies killed but is more closely related to the number of bullets fired.

Higher firing rate = more bullets = potentially more dead enemies.

Lighter weight allows Lucas to carry more ammo to balance out the faster rate of ammo consumption.

"I don't know... can't you just make like.. everything better?"

Then you get a sort of annoyed glare from Nemo. It seems to be the sort of glare every engineer learns to make when someone starts asking too much of them.

"I can't make a gun do everything perfectly. It's not physically possible." Nemo pouts. "It's just the way things work. There's tradeoffs to design changes, you know. Higher rate of fire generally tends to make guns less accurate, and lighter weight usually means smaller caliber ammunition, and so on and so forth. Even Qyburn had to make compromises in his weapon designs."

Accuracy is self explanatory

Weight would mean more to me if I ever noticed the effect it had/knew how much ammo we actually get to carry.

Does stopping power inflict multiple wounds?

Rate of fire could mean we hit more with one attack?

Basically what do these choices mean for the quest?
>>

>>Actually, the gun is good as it is.

Why not a PDW? Or would that be too advanced for this timeframe? Perhaps we can set R&D on looking into the creation of a not-MP5?
>>
>>27233102
>Choose one aspect you would like to see improved!

Incidently, whats the drawback for accuracy? weight? rate of fire?
>>
>>27233504
To some extent.

The British L85A1, for example, has a much longer barrel than the M4A1, though chambered in 5.56 NATO. While being a tad bit heavier, it was able to engage at longer ranges.
>>
>>27233545

It was the second best of 3 options, we should've just left it alone.
>>
>>27233558

>adding shit to weight down a trooper for a small chance.

Theres a good reason why machine gunners are not the first in in room clearance. They're the ones laying the firepower down for teammates to advance and assault.
>>
>>27233572
I'm assuming we'll be able to pick the old one or the new one depending on where we get deployed, so having another option can't be a bad thing, especially if we get into long engagement ranged in the notkorean war or something.
>>
>>27233569
The L85A1 was also a bullpup, giving it roughly the same OVERALL length as an M4. And was an unreliable piece of shit. The A2 models are a vast improvement, and beautiful rifles, but nobody in their right mind would carry an L85A1 into combat if they had the choice, and it dodged the length drawback due to configuration.
>>
>>27233558

You mean a not!automaticpistol.

Chambered in at least a pistol-caliber bullet.

Fuck carrying a gun that can't kill a man in a short burst.

>Game-wise, lengthened barrel means you suffer a slightly larger penalty for firing on the move or fighting close quarters. However, it would make an excellent base of fire weapon.

"Okay, lengthened barrel it is." Nemo said as she reassembles the M60 and slots in the new part. "Here, give it a try."

In the lab's firing range, you fire off several bursts. You're impressed that the grouping is much tighter than before, but you notice it's a bit heavier so it's harder to keep in an aimed position on the move, and more than once you almost hit the barrel against walls and door frames.

"Every Gunner and Lancer keeps asking us that." Nemo sighs. "Unfortunately, with the advent of the assault rifle and improvements in body armor, SMGs and carbines have hit a bit of a dead end in terms of R&D and nobody bothers anymore. If you want, we can break out some of the older SMGs, but they're just modded versions of EW2 designs, and honestly it's another weapon and more ammo you'll have to carry."

Most likely not to be honest. Guy has a sense of honor but he would be willing to lie as shown by Morgan/Simo.

Underhanded to him I think is more something really underhanded like poisoning or lying out of cruelty.
>>
>>27234062
Lying is such a bad word, it's a bit more like omitting facts that make up the truth.
>>
>>27234062
Thing is, he only lied to Simo because Morgan made him give his word that he would keep her secret.
Keeping something you were told in confidence to yourself is different from outright lying.

>>27233975
Well, there was only one place you could figure Runaround would be at, and that would be the vehicle garage. Even though there wouldn't be any space to drive around, you had the feeling that Runaround just like spending time around vehicles in general.

As you enter, you see rows and rows of jeeps, armored cars, rhinos, Type-40 main battle tanks, and a few Vipers, including your own. And there, sitting in front of is Runaround, who seems to be looking at it with the greatest amount of focus.

Not really. It still is a lie and I'm not quite saying he would run around and lie for no reason. But something that could be this funny and would be worth it.

Do we use the normal rounds, or do we user hte hotter +p rounds?
>>
>>27234317
Recoil Compensators, or "comps" work by taking the hot gasses used to propel the round, and redirecting them upward as the round leaves the chamber. .38 Super is a good round to use with them because it fires the same bullet as .38ACP, but uses higher pressure loadings to fire it at a much higher velocity. More gasses for the comp to redirect, making it more effective. Really good synergy.
>>27234327
Technically, the +P headstamp on .38 Super doesn't actually mean anything. It was just added in '74 to help further distinguish it from .38 ACP (which the cartridge is dimensionally identical to).

"Trombe" is the name of Elzam von Branstein's horse in Super Robot Wars.
He also calls all of his mechs by that name.
And it's the title of his theme music which (originally due to a glitch, but in later games it's a feature) overrides everyone all other theme music, even boss themes. The only time Trombe itself has ever been overriden is in Alpha 3 when By The Beautiful Blue Danube overrides Trombe due to By The Beautiful Blue Danube being diegetic.

You decide to leave Runaround to his own devices. You always sort of figured him to be an aloof individual, but you guess he just became a different person whenever vehicles were involved. Actually, you weren't really all that surprised considering the type of person who usually signed up to be drivers.

Again, you find yourself wandering the ship, and before you know it, you're on the completely wrong deck. Trying to get your bearings, you accidentally bump into a very familiar figure.

"Mr. Menendez?!" You blink.

"Oh, well hello there, Lucas." Menendez grins. "It's been a while."

"Y-yeah, it has." You nod.

"What brings you up to the bridge deck?" He asks. "Usually the ground troops don't have much of a reason to come up here."

"Ummm, I'm a bit lost, sir." You say with a bit of embarrassment.

"Oh, well I'm not surprised. I get lost on this ship all the time as well!" Menendez laughs. "Anyways, I was just on my way to the bridge to give my regards to the captain. Do you want to come along?"

"Sure." You nod. You actually kind of wanted to see the bridge, too.

However, the bridge is still quite a distance away, and you notice that the walk is awfully quiet.

"And what do you know about the ship's captain?"

"Oh, just an old acquaintance of mine." Menendez shrugs. "He's a good and honorable man, if a bit strict. You'll know more when we actually see him."

Erusea is the bloc controlling South America

>>27235366
CODEX ENTRY UNLOCKED

The United Republics of Erusea

The United Republics of Erusea is a relatively young coalition of nations, formed mostly in an attempt to deter Emmerian expansionism.

Erusea's history starts in ancient times, when refugees from the Darcsen/Valkrur conflict fled Europa and scattered to the four corners of the Earth. While some of the refugees settled in what would eventually become Emmeria, others sailed further south in what would eventually become Erusea. Up until the 1800s, Erusea only existed as various squabbling nations fighting each other over territory and resources. However, that all changed when Emmeria invaded and annexed Tenoch, which was literally a stone's throw from the southern nations. Alarmed, the southern states banded together to form the United Republics of Erusea.

However, "Republic" was a bit of misnomer, as the majority of Erusea's member states are in fact military dictatorships. Internally, Erusea is still just as divided and wracked with infighting. However, what all of these individual dictators can agree on is that Emmerian expansionism into their territory had to be stopped at any cost.

With the Emmerian supported rebellion and secession of San Salvacion and the construction of the Salvacion Canal during EWI, Emmerian and Erusean relations have been at their lowest ever. Both sides stand ready to fight each other, with San Salvacion being the fuse to the massive powder keg...
>>
>>27235665
Basically, for those of you who don't get it...

Emmeria = Essentially a US-dominant NAFTA.
Erusea = South America if Bolivar actually succeeded in uniting them.
San Salvacion = Panama
Tenoch = Mexico
>>
>>27235696
>Tenoch = Mexico

Huh, I though it was Texas.
>>
>>27235715
Is there a difference?
>>
>>27235741
Yeah. Texas called daddy Mexico out and kicked his ass, then ran off and eloped with that "America" girl.
>>
>>27235741

One's a country, the other is an admittedly fat slice of a country.
>>
>>27235715
Probably what happened was exactly like real world history except when the Mexican War ended, the US just decided to take the whole of Mexico, likely with the intention of using it and Panama as a staging ground into South America

"Wow... so Emmeria and Erusea really don't like each other."

"Unimaginably so." Menendez nods. "And all that resentment and hate is focused on poor San Salvacion. While neutral on paper, San Salvacion has very close ties to Emmeria, and even gives their ships discounts to pass through the Canal. Erusea has been making a big stink about retaking San Salvacion for decades, but it seems now they're actually backing up their threats."

"So... what's their capabilities?"

"I'm sure you'll be told when you're ready." Menendez says. "Besides, we're already at the bridge."

Menendez gives the two guards standing at the door a nod, and they both salute and stand aside to let the both of you in. Inside, the bridge itself didn't seem all that much different from one you'd find in a regular ship. A bit anticlimactic, sure, but you guess it was understandable. And there, sitting in a chair in the center of the room, is the man who is presumably the captain of the Kestrel.

"Damn it, Raoul, what did I tell you about dragging kids into the bridge?" The man sighs.

"Lucas, may I present to you Captain Jonathan Jurgens." Menendez nods to the other man. "Such hostility, John. I haven't seen you and years, and all you can think of is complain!"

"Damn right. Nothing but trouble happens whenever you're around!" Jurgens grumps. "So kid, what's your story?"

"Private Lucas Williams, sir!" You stand to attention and salute. "Part of SOF Team 6 'The Wraiths'!"

"Ah, one of those SOF kids." Jurgens nods, looking at you and Menendez. "Well kid, better get ready, because Raoul here is going to put you through all kinds of hell in those jungles. I don't envy your job one bit."

"And I can never imagine just sitting in chair in a cramped room all day." Raoul retorts lightheartedly.

"Jungles?" You blink.

"Did you kids skip out on geography or something?" Jurgens sighs. "Erusea is almost exclusively tropical jungle. Hot and humid as hell, and a lot of exotic and dangerous wildlife."

"It's not so bad. Most of the dangers are just exaggerations." Menendez shrugs.

"Says the guy who's lived in those jungles all his life." Jurgens shakes his head.

"Could be worse." One of he bridge crew pipes up. "We could've been sent somewhere cold."

"Or worse, Ifriqiya." Another one winces. "NOBODY wants to end up there."

"You people are paid to WORK, not TALK!" Jurgens says sternly, and then turns to you. "If you don't have anything better to do, kid, I suggest you get back to the barracks decks.

"Yes sir!" You salute and make your escape.

"Cool, mind if I join in?" You say.

"W-what?" Edwin blinks in surprise. "Why would you want to do that?"

"Well, like you, I want to learn more about the enemy too. You know, be prepared and all." You shrug.

"Hmmmm, you know, you kind of surprise me." Edwin says, eying you warily. "I didn't think you'd be so dedicated to preparing for the mission."

"Are you kidding? You think I like going into battle not knowing anything?" You laugh. "And here I thought you were just naturally brilliant."

"I AM." Edwin scowls. "Come on. Just be quiet and don't breathe all over my books."

Edwin's quarters are bit... cramped, to say the least. Every possible nook and cranny is filled with books of all sizes and kinds. Carefully set aside are a set of history books focusing on Erusea, both general and military.

"Wow, this is... pretty impressive." You whistle.

"It's nothing compared to my family's library." Edwin says simply. "Here, you can try this one for size."

Edwin just blinks, genuinely surprised that you didn't contest his suggestion, and for the first time you seem just grin and shake his head.

"Are you sure you want to read that?"

"Well, sure! You suggested it, after all!" You respond, a bit amused at how Edwin was trying to suppress his confusion.

You begin reading, all the while noticing Edwin sneaking looks at you every now and then.

The book was actually more helpful than you thought. From what you can glean from Erusea's military history, most of their experience in war was spent fighting each other rather than any large scale conventional force like Erusea. In fact, in some ways, Erusea's military was just as inexperienced as Emmeria's when it came to full scale war.

However, you note that if the Eruseans had any specialties, it was their jungle fighters. They were pretty much nothing like regular military and didn't act like them, either. After several skirmishes with them, the Emmerians figured that it was too much trouble digging them out of the jungles and held off on pushing into Erusean territory. After all, the jungle fighters pushed north, they'd lost their defensive advantage, and if Emmeria pushed south, they'd be walking into a meatgrinder. It seemed this stalemate is what maintains the current status quo.

"Huh, that was pretty helpful." You say.

"I'm impressed that you actually finished it." Edwin responds simply.

"Yeah well, it wasn't that difficult. It was for dummies, after all."

"You know, I guess you're not that bad." Edwin sighs.

"Whoa, was that at COMPLIMENT you just gave me?" You gasp.

"Don't get used to it. It just means I trust you enough to watch my back." Edwin says a bit too quickly.

"So... I'm basically your friend now."

"I did NOT say that."

"But you were totally thinking it!" You grin.

Edwin then tosses another book at your face.

"This one's a bit more advanced, so sit down, shut up, and start reading!" Edwin shouts.

Yeah, he was totally cracking. But, you decide no to press to hard and continue your reading. You had a lot to learn, after all.

A lot, actually. Though because she's not socially stunted like Artya, she actually manages to be subtle about it. It's just lots of random little things you wouldn't miss at first.

So? We just drop a few Daisy Cutters into the brush with a dash of napalm and a heavy sprinkling of white phosphorus.. After that, we scour the ground for tunnels.

I wonder how many books are missing from Edwin's collection...
>>
>>27236896
He keeps a very close inventory on his books and would be quick to notice if any are missing. And rest assured, Sparky is the FIRST person he confronts if something like that happens.
>>
>>27236844

He supposedly cooked feasts for his troops.

Then again hes one of the few who can enjoy kusuha's health drink
>>
>>27236912
Oh God my sides.

Sparky confirmed for Best Girl.
