Gundam AGE Quest: Part 51

Last Time On AGE QUEST!: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Gundam+AGE+Quest

Check my twitter for when the next game is and possible delays: https://twitter.com/Crosswire

Your name is Scarlet Crocker and your father was recently shot. Apparently Vagans infiltrated the colony, built two mobile suits from snuck in parts, and tried to kidnap your father at gunpoint while attempting to steal your Gawain. However that went sour and two of the kidnappers were killed, the other fleed. Your dad was shot up in the process and is currently being looked after by Mom. You’re not sure where Rysis and Travis are, but you can see that Walker’s team has been thoroughly wiped out by this “Green Knight”.

You can just in time to see the Green Knight smash your Grandfather’s cockpit. It looks dented, not crushed, so he very well could be alive. However you can’t worry about that right now.
At the moment you are in the Gawain Gundam armed only with its fixed weapons and flight capabilities. The Green Knight as large physical blades fixed to its arms, a chest cannon, and a pair of powerful cannons that deploy over the shoulders when fired. He’s already fired these at you once and from what you can tell you DON’T want to get hit by them.

Walker is engaging the Dorado Variant on his own, so you’ll have to take this guy by yourself. At the moment you’re pretty damn close to the base. Destroyed suits lay scattered around you with weapons strewn about. The Green Knight is standing in the bases parking lot, trucks and cars scattered around him.

What do you wish to do Scarlet?
>>
Fuck yes, it's back.

We need to lure that guy away from the base. Toss a disabled suit at him, and use the opening to grab a DODS rifle or something from the nearby damaged suits. We're probably faster than he is - if we can make him follow us around, we should be capable of getting him as far away from the base as possible.
>>
What's the status of the base? Are our guys evacuating while we're slowing these fuckers down?
>>
>>27201385
From what you can tell, yes. The base is still intact, it hasn't been hit thanks to you and Walker. The others are probably evacuating to the inside of the colony walls, a few reinforced sections are good for taking shelter in the case of a disaster or attack.

>>27201126
You decide to move as far was from the base as possible. No need in risking damaging or destroying it in the fight. As the Green Knight fires on you, you swoop downwards and grab one of the destroyed suits. You spin the Gawain around and fling the suit at him. Quickly you turn around and begin to fly away, grabbing a DODS Rifle off the ground as do so.

He fires a few shots from his chest cannon and over shoulder cannons, however the shots miss you as you gain altitude. You can tell he's following you from below. Leading him away from the base is important, but where will you go? Fighting in the civilian areas won't be any better. You could fight in the damaged industrial sector, that's pretty torn up as it is. You could also try luring him out of the colony, but he might just turn around and head back to the base to destroy it if you out right leave.

You wonder why he doesn't do that now. Maybe he has something against you or your family? Maybe he's looking for a good fight? Regardless it's best not to try him.

What will you do Scarlet?
>>
>>27201504
To the damaged sector it is.

Dodge his attacks and keep railing on him to keep his attention focused on us. Also, I'd rather not risk accidentally shooting our own guys while we're nearby the base - so use melee attacks and our high mobility against this dude, and only use guns when there's nothing we can accidentally hit.
>>
>>27201004
After this is over, BIOMETRIC LOCKS ON ALL THE GUNDAMS
>>
>>27201836
I think only one suit (the Crusader) has that thing installed. But yeah, we should improve our security. The fact that we had spies working under our noses this entire time shows how much we're screwed.
>>
>>27201590
You go to the damaged sector, flying a path that leads the Green Knight through less populated sectors, all while firing on him with your Railgun.

Soon you arrive at the industrial sector you hear a voice over the comms.

"Ah! You and your family are exactly like the files say you are. Predictable. You're so concerned with saving lives that you fail to think of what kind of tactical advantage it will put you at." The Green Knight ducks behind a build as he speaks and comes back holding a hand held rifle of Vagan design, similar to the one the Zeydra used.

He takes aim and fires, forcing you to land and begin hovering around, darting in between burnt out buildings. You return fire with your Railgun but the Green Knight manages to react to all the shots and dodge them with relative ease.

"Why are you doing all this? Don't you know you're working for lunatics?" You say as you ramp up the Gawain's speed and ready your beam sabers as you begin to circle around the Green Knight.

"I could say the same for you. The Earth Federation is as just as corrupt and evil as you think the Vagan Government is. If you think your family has a chance at changing that you're wrong. Wars have always been the product of people in power and the people who try to halt such wars are stomped out and destroyed. Do you think your family will be any different? I think not!" The Green Knight fires all his weapons at once. If you can dodge them you'll be able to swoop in and attack at point blank...

Flying upwards as he fires the shot, you manage to fly in at him from the side as he tries to sweep the beam. You swing both your beam sabers and fire your railgun as you attack him at point blank. The Railgun round grazes the head of the Green Knight's suit, but you cut up his shoulder mounted and chest mounted cannons. Before you can cut any deeper the Green Knight knees your suit and kicks you back.

"You're good, I'll say that much. However I sense a bad things in the future for you..." The Green Knight runs away and ducks behind another build. Seeing as he only has a beam rifle you fly above it and fire your Railgun down on him.

"What are you babbling about? X-Rounders can't see the future!"

"All X-Rounders have a unique ability that sets them apart from other X-Rounders. Mine is the ability to compile possible scenarios of what might happen in the future. It's not entirely accurate since the future is always changing, but everything looks grim in your future. Especially what will happen quite soon"

"Yeah? What?"

"Me blowing you up with missiles!"

As you finally get visual contact of the Green Knight, you see him rip another handheld Vagan weapon from out of a large moving truck. fires it you, sending several light propelled missiles straight towards you.

"Please, you call that predicting the future? You sound more like one of those fake-crazy X-Rounders to me"

You fly back and fire your scatter beam cannons as the missile come at you. The scatter blast destroys them, and throws up enough smoke that you can put some distance between you and the Green Knight to think.

Priming your sensors you realize that a lot of rental trucks are in the area, all the ones that the guy at the Docks said had been rented out to the people who came in the shuttle. See this as a chance to use the Green Knights Weapons against him, you fly over to the nearest truck and peel it open.

The moment you do the truck explodes with tremendous force, throwing the Gawain back into a building.

"Maybe I can't really see the future, but I'm smart enough to plant explosives on all my weapon caches in case you'd want to sample from them. Seriously, It took you this long to realize I had weapon stashes? I'd have thought me pulling that rifle out would have caught your attention" The Green Knight mocks as he fires on you while you're getting the Gawain back to it's feet. You roll, but the shot hit and destroys the Gawain's left shatter cannon.

You hop back to your feet and fire on the Green Knight with your DODS Rifle and railgun, forcing him to take evasive maneuvers.

"So you guys came all the way here to kidnap my Dad and my Gundam? You're going through a lot of trouble just to do all that!" You shout, firing through the buildings in an attempt to hit the pesky X-Rounder.

"Who said that was my mission? The men who attacks your father were spies, I had nothing to do with them. I merely coordinated the start of my operation with theirs. " The Green Knight states, as he hops up and fires another barrage of missiles from his launcher, which you shoot down with your remaining scatter cannon. The missiles destruction fill the area with smoke, distorting your field of vision.

*Cont*
>>
>>27202842
"So what's your real mission?" You demand, firing a few railgun rounds into the smoke.

"Why should I tell you? It's more fun to watch you squirm!" From out of the smoke the Green Knight rushes at you from the side, swinging down with his two large arm mounted blades in an attempt to maul you.

Fire the spray guns to make him flinch. Then duck inside his reach and use his momentum to mecha-Judo him face down into the pavement. Follow up with beam blades to sever his arms. Or at least get rid of his shoulder cannons. If we get a good enough chance, head shot instead. Beam sword right through the cockpit. Unless his penchant for dickery lead him to move it to a different part of his suit. Can't think of where there could be room, though, with the beam buster in the chest. Crotch-mounted like mobile suits in Turn A tend to be, maybe?

>>27203012
I'm getting tired of these villains who keep pulling surprise twists on us. Nothing we do seems to matter, we just get our asses kicked anyway. I'm not saying it's bad writing, it doesn't feel like Crosswire's railroading us. But we've been really ineffectual. I don't know, maybe we're thinking too tactical instead of strategic. Honestly, we've handled this so poorly I'm not sure we can get a triumphant ending for this generation. The best we'll get will be "Well, they haven't killed us all. Yet." Which is fitting for Gen 2, I guess. That whole generation was just one big kick in the balls to the protagonists.

>Lure him over a factory of volatile chemicals/ munitions, and then blow that sucker up under him.

There are no stable factories left in this area that could blow up...but there is the trucks.

You fire your scattering beam gun and cause him to slide his arms into a defensive stance. Slashing the Green Knight with your Beam Saber you knock him back far enough to allow you to grab one of the nearby moving trucks, sick a tired

"You're pretty good at planning, but you're dead wrong about my family. We're all about being unpredictable. Think about that over THIS" You lob the moving truck at the Green Knights suit and as if on reflex he cuts it in half causing the weapon and explosives inside to detonate right in his face. Leaving an opening for you to unload into him, scoring several direct hits on his suit.

Moments before the suit explodes, something pops off the back and rockets skyward. A sudden explosion nearby shakes the colony, and you can see that the air is being sucked from the colony.

"Hahaha! Good show, but don't gloat over your victory. These colony will be ours or they'll be dust. So remember Scenario is the name of the Green Knight who will slay you, because I'll be seeing you again!" You fire your DODS Rifle and the Railgun at the small escape pod-thing as it flies out of the hole and into space.

"Yeah and I'll kick your ass AGAIN. That escape trick won't work next time!" You curse and while tempting it is to follow him, you need to get to work fixing the hole.

>>27203270
(I'm not railroading, honest. You guys have done a good job so far, but Gen 2 is kind of supposed to be a kick in the balls consider how pear shaped things are turning for the Federation. However you've made some very smart decisions so far and let me tell you, things could have been a LOOOOOOOOT worse if you guys had gone and done something stupid in the past couple threads. So you're decisions do matter, for better or for worse)

(cont)
>>
>>27203270
Yeah, things are pretty grim at the moment. We lost Luna base, we probably won't recover from this attack on the HQ in time for the real Vagan attack, and who knows what else will go wrong. Though we might be able to salvage things and do the impossible.

We'll see what happens.
>>
>>27203457
I think we need to get to work on the Wings of Light and our Zeydra custom.
>>
>>27203457
Yeah, that's about what I figured. I don't think you're intentionally dicking us over. Like I said, it really just seems like you're going for the Gen 2 experience. Which is "Corruption and bureaucracy have left the most critical roles to a handful of skilled but inexperienced and poorly supported amateurs." I'm not assuming we've been COMPLETELY ineffectual, just that we've got such big threats headed for us that we're still getting our shit kicked in. I mean, how much of our mobile suit corps are still intact after this encounter? Two guys, and they took out the entire Knights of the Round. We need to step up our game.
>>
>>27203457
The hole in the colony is big, but not big enough that you can't fix it. There is a system in place, a kind of goo that is deployed in large bubbles that acts as a kind of temporary "Band-Aid" for the holes till proper repairs can be made.

There's one of the devices in each section of the colony and they're made to be activated remotely or via mobile suit.

So you can activate the system or you can head back to base and leave this for someone else to fix. I mean the atmosphere of the colony is only being sucked into space.

What will you do Scarlet?
>A) Leave it for someone else. Colony Emergency Maintenance Workers are supposed to be on top of this stuff. Besides, Walker might till be in trouble!

>>

>>27204034

You decide to fix the hole. Finding the station is pretty easy and thankfully it wasn't damaged. After fiddling with it for a minute or so you get it to activate and it produces a huge red bubble that's released and immediately sucked towards the hole. It gets stuck in the hole and pops, producing a large red covering over the hole that immediately hardens.

With the hole out of the way you call HQ on the comms but don't get a response. You then call Mom on her phone, which she quickly replies.

"Scarlet? Are you OK? We heard, and felt, an explosion!"

"Yea Mom I'm fine. There's a hole in the colony, but I patched it up using the emergency systems. Where are you? No one's picking up at the base"

"We're all down in the reinforced section of the colony wall. Apparently this place as a life support system. It's kind of like a colony sized shelter, it can be detached if the the colony is going to be destroyed." Mom explains as you begin flying back to base to check on Walker.

"Is Dad OK?"

"He's doing better now that he's gotten medical attention. The wounds are pretty bad though, so he won't be up and walking around for a while."

"What about Rysis and Travis?"

"They left to see if there were any enemies outside. They should be back shortly if there isn't anyone out there."

"Alright. Have everyone come back to base, Dad should be in the infirmary and not down there if his injuries are that bad."

"Good point. We'll be up shortly." You hang up your phone and set down, seeing Walker's suit sitting next to a burnt up Vagan mobile suit, his heat Katana skewered through it's remains.

"I heard an explosion and I got worried, but I can see you're fine. You know how to handle yourself pretty well Scarlet." Walker states.

"Thanks. What about my Grandfather? Did anyone check the disabled suits?"

"Yeah we did. Your grandfather is alive, he's got a busted leg and a nasty concussion but he'll live."

*Cont*
>>
>>27203813
Well, Jake is just injured, and will probably be fine. Grandpa Jack, though...

>>27203602
Let's leave the hole to other people. For now we need to make sure the base is alright. Comms are probably still jammed, so we can't just radio in.
>>
>>27204206
"We also pulled out a few of my guys and most of your trainees. Apparently these two had more fun chopping off their limbs and watching the suits flail around then killing them outright. If we hadn't jumped in when we did they'd probably all be dead." Walker sighs. "We're alive though and the base is still intact. None of the construction workers were killed ether. So what should we do now Scarlet?" Walker asks, standing his suit up and pulling his Katana out of Dorado Varient's remains.

Well Scarlet...what will you do now?
>>
>>27204262
Get a full status report. How many people did we lose, what's the damage to the base, and so on.

Order necessary repairs and resupplies, and go out and help the medics any way you can.

They managed to avoid hitting the cockpits and just disabled the suits, even with one of them firing missiles. Great. We're fighting evil Kira Yamato. Who might just actually be tolerable. Though I guess he could just turn out to preach evil instead of naivety. Which was kind of what the Green Knight was doing. Okay, yeah, we're fighting evil Kira.

You decide to get a Status report. While you wait for it you help the medics with the wounded and also help clean up a little. After a half an hour or so you get the report which Rysis has happily filled out.
----------------
>Casualties

Security Personnel: 24 dead, 4 wounded. (All of them basically)

Engineering Personnel: 3 Wounded

Trainees: 8 slightly injured, 2 dead

Walkers Team: 4 alright, 6 dead

Round Table Team: 6 Dead, Totally Exterminated

Jack Crocker: Broken left leg, currently suffering from a concussion.

Jake Crocker: Internal Bleeding, various damage to internal organs. Currently stable and awake. Doctors believe with proper treatment and rest that he will recover.

>Damages
Gawain's battle damage.

Proto Clanche and Proto Adeles cockpits were destroyed.

--------------------

Overall things look relatively OK. The base wasn't damaged outside of a few bullet holes and a small grenade crater in the hanger. Most of your losses were in personnel, but even then it could have been a lot worse.

So, what do you wish to do Scarlet? Get everyone back to work on what they were doing? Or did you have something else in mind?

Have the wounded sent to the infirmary or the hospital, depending on how hurt they are.
Let our men recover from the shock of this, they could use some rest and time to stabilize.

Go see Jake and grandpa in the hospital.
>>
>>27204664
Well, it could be Arabel Zoi. We did blew up his father's military base some 25 years ago, and his dad was pretty big on giving speeches how the Feds are corrupt while selling them weapons and sabotaging them. Maybe the spies were working for his dad, and that gave him the opportunity to slip in and do... whatever he wanted to do. Did he want to test us?

As for him being evil Kira, yeah, I can see that. Though he did apparently steal a couple of tricks from Jake, considering all the dirty tricks he pulled off.
>>
>>27204711
How did they take out the entire Round Table when we and Walker fought them off just fine? Sure, we're skilled pilots, but we're not THAT great. It wasn't even that they had been worn down, the Green Knight held almost everything back until we showed up. Then again, the Round Table were arguably mooks. We never actually learned their names. Sorry, Round Table. We doomed your narrative.

Right, anyway, orders: We need a perimeter lockdown. I don't want anyone entering or leaving the base until we've investigated how the spies got in. What happened to the Black Knight? I'm assuming that's what she's called, given her partner's name. And I just realized that it's a reference to the legend of Gawain and the Green Knight. Ugh, I should have seen that sooner. Whatever, did she get away? And if not, is she dead or in custody. It sure would be nice to have someone to interrogate. Along those lines of thinking, get the police looking into the smuggling operation that got the mobile suits in, meanwhile we investigate the spy situation. And it would be great if we could get the kids that are probably their accomplices.
>>
>>27204991
Well, the spies were already in the base, so it is possible that the suits were tampered with. The Round Table guys were supposedly test pilots (like Girard), so they were pretty good, but that doesn't mean anything if your suit is malfunctioning.

Anyway, yeah, let's issue a lockdown and secure the perimeter, just to be safe, and get everybody on the case.
>>
>>27204991
There were no main characters around, and they're a high end experimental team of the best pilots.
What did you think would happen, they'd actually win?
>>
>>27204794
>>27205071
You decide to hold off on things and instead leave everyone some time to recover from what went down. You get Rysis and a sober Travis on investigating what happened to the surviving spy and how they infiltrated the base in the first place. Order a lock down, but considering that most of your security personal is dead and the perimeter fence is destroyed, it'll be hard to enforce. Still, you make a quick call to the police telling them about the trucks containing the weapons and explosives. No sense leaving them to blow up and hurt people.

After you make the call you head to the infirmary to visit Grandpa and Dad. Grandpa is already in a cast and is still out like a light. Dad is awake, but he's on heavy duty pain meds so he can't really talk straight. Still, it's nice to know the two of them are alive and kicking.

After stay there for a half an hour or so you leave to get an update from Rysis.

"From what we can tell the spies slipped in with the new recruits. There were so many applications we couldn't check them all for validity. We found out that a few of them visited the Camelot and hung out with the Round Table team. From what we can tell their suits were tampered with, a virus in the OS crippled their performance." Rysis explains with a frown.

"There is one survivor running around, but she's fairly young and we know her face. The police are on the look out for her, if they or anyone sees her, they'll get her." Travis adds.

What would you like to do Scarlet?
>>
>>27205301
Let's send a report to Flit about what we learned and what happened.
Maybe he'll be able to spare some troops or supplies for us.

Also, Travis is up? Good. He can make up for that drunk driving and attacking us by helping us salvage the destroyed suits.
We need to start recycling those things and making new ones, and fast. Might as well ask him what was that about Arthur.
>>
>>27205447
You decide to actually report to Vice Admiral Flit about how fucked up things are here and how badly you need troops. After making the report you go to Travis and ask him to start recycling the damaged suits.

"So Travis, you said something about Arthur before? What was it?" You ask, making him stop dead and look at you.

At first he looks concerned but then he just looks sad. "It's...a long story. I don't like talking about Arthur. Rysis asked me not to tell you, since it would only make things worse for you if you knew. However I can tell you this much. Arthur asked me to return a CD to Rysis."

"A CD? Whats that?" You ask.

"It's a type of optical media disk that we put music on. See, Rysis and Arthur were...engaged before the War started. The last time Rysis saw Arthur on normal terms, she loaned him her favorite CD. "Can't Say Goodbye to Tomorrow" by Rika Muranaka, and Carla White." Travis sighs and searches his jacket for a cigarette.

>A) Push Travis on the subject, screw Rysis!
>B) Leave things be. It's obvious this is a sore spot for Rysis and Travis/
>>
>>27205668
> B) Leave things be. It's obvious this is a sore spot for Rysis and Travis.

"Sorry, I won't bug you about that then. I'm just curious about him - he's apparently my great-grandfather or something and I know nothing about him."
>>
>>27205905
We don't know that. We have no idea bout our relation to Arthur other than that Jake is very similar in attitude to him. The similarity could just be coincidence.

Though we should ask Travis what Arthur's last name was. We never actually learned it. Certainly would be interesting if it was "Crocker". Let's say that: "Okay, I understand if it's a sore topic. Sorry. Could you answer one small thing, though? It's kind of silly, but no one seems to know Arthur's full name. Not even any of the historians. What was his last name?"
>>
>>27206154
Jake, according to Rysis, also looks a lot like Arthur. He reminded her too much, that's why she went ballistic whenever he was around. And MaG has a biometric lock installed - she probably wouldn't start for Jake back in thread 1 if there wasn't some genetic similarity. And then CDACE confused Jake for Arthur as well.
>>

"Okay, I understand if it's a sore topic. Sorry. Could you answer one small thing, though? It's kind of silly, but no one seems to know Arthur's full name. Not even any of the historians. What was his last name?"

"It was King. Arthur King. He was the ass end of a lot of jokes when we were kids...maybe too many..." Travis frowns as he continues searching in his jacket "Thanks for not trying to pry. If it was any of us could do anything about, we'd let you know. However I think you're better off just not knowing." Rysis finally finds a cigarette and lights it up, before leaving to get to work.

"Travis...can you tell me something real quick?" You ask as he begins to leave.

"Yeah?" He says, not turning to face you.

"What's it like to...wake up after so long?" You watch as Travis just stands their, looking forward in silence for a few moments.

"It's fucking scary. You wake up and realize everything you knew, everyone you knew, and everything you cared about is ether gone or changed so much you don't recognize it. It makes you wish for things to be like they used to be. Humans don't like change. Sometimes things change so much we try everything in our power to make them like they used to be. It's like Rysis's song. Some people just can't say goodbye to tomorrow."

Travis then walks off, blowing smoke from his cigarette.

Everyone has started getting back to work. You should have a production update in half an hour. So what do you wish to do Scarlet?

Oh, I know the evidence is pretty damn strong. I'm just saying it's not something to assume as true until we know for sure. Like I said, we still don't know his god damn last name. What's with that? How is there so little information on him? Hell, Rysis at least had her name known to historians. Just how was the Federation so thorough in wiping the records of him?
>>
>>27206322
Grab some coffee and see mom, she must be in pretty bad shape considering how she lost her entire team and saw dad get shot.

>>27206332
He could have changed his last name. As for the Feds wiping all the evidence of him existing, they did remove all evidence of Vagan ever being a thing as well. If they were capable of removing all traces of a massive colonization effort of another planet, they could easily remove one guy from their records.

True. It just seems odd for there to be such big gaps in what is relatively recent history. Vagan can be excused as the Mars colonists deliberately hiding in the wake of the attacks, but given how many historians we know of who study the colony wars there should be more curiosity about these things.
>>
>>27206565
I agree. Let's see Mellis. She's been through a lot, lately.
>>

They could have written him off as another casualty of the Colony wars. There were probably thousands if not millions of those - what's one guy among them? They recorded that the Legendary Savior - the Gundam - ended the long war, but kept the pilot deliberately a mystery. That way, they get good PR and don't have to bother with such minor details such as Arthur disagreeing with their politics or something like that.

You decide to talk to mom over a hot cup of coffee, things have been rough for the both of you.

Sitting down in the cafeteria the two of you sip your coffee and sit in silence for a bit before you start to talk.

"So Mom, how are you holding up? I mean Dad was just shot, the Round Table Team was killed, things are going to hell and a hand basket, and the Vagans are going to be knocking on our door in about three days, if they even keep to that Date. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty stressed out over things..." You admit, as you drink your coffee.

"I'm...alright." Your mother admits. "When I married your father, I recognized that we'd probably be killed in a fight. Frankly I prefer dying in battle then withering up and dying of old age. So the last couple days have been hard for me, but I've been prepared for them for quite a while. I know I must sound pretty horrible. A wife should be concerned about her husband being shot, and I am...but I worry about your father. He's not the kind of man to let things go. He's always been driven. He has this unnatural drive to help people and while I love him for it, I know it'll be the death of him. So while I hope with every fiber of my being that he'll live and I know deep down in my heart one of us is going to die before this dreadful war ends."

What do you think about this Rysis?

>What do you think about this Rysis?
Did you just call us Rysis?
>>
>>27207196
Oops, I mean Scarlet!
>>
>>27207249
(Jeez, at least Jake and Jack sound alike. Now I know I need to get more sleep if I'm mixing up Scarlet and Rysis)

Give Mellis the strongest hug you can and don't let go. Show her just how much you love her.
"Shut up. Don't talk like that. Don't even think that. I won't let anything happen to either one of you, you hear me?"
>>
>>27207121
"You know what scares me? That even if neither of you are killed, you'll still be right. That you'll live to a ripe old age, get to see Dirk and I have our own children, retire with full honors...and the war will still be happening. How do we end this, Mom? Sometimes I wish we could just...leave. Take everyone who's still sane and fuck off to Jupiter or somewhere, where it's safe and Vagan wouldn't be able to attack us. You think I could propose that without it sounding like treason? Like, I don't know, an initiative to establish distant colonies to serve as population reserves and research facilities. Because it would be so much easier if we our colony cluster just was not here right now."

You're quite upset to hear how...fatalistic Mom is. You stand up, walk over, and give her a big old hug. "Mom. Just shut up and don't talk like that. I won't let anything happen to you or Dad, so knock it off with the Fatalistic crap OK?"

Mellis sighs and chuckles before returning to the hug. "I should know better then to think like that around you. You're a lot like your father."

You sit back down and talk with Mom over coffee, feeling that things are probably going to go your way...

(OK I'm going to have to end things early tonight because I have work early tomorrow. However we'll have part 52 tomorrow at 4:00. I'd also like to say I love how invested so many of you are in the story. Thank you for playing!)

Sure thing man. See you tomorrow.

Man, older Mellis is pretty dark. I guess that's understandable, though, all things considered.
We have to make sure she survives, no matter what happens.
