We got a lot done last time, now we just need some more anons to help out.

Please remember:

We're trying to build a sector without the LOLRANDOM, and keep things at least somewhat respectful of canon.

We're building a relatively depopulated sector, fresh out of a colossal Warp Storm that wrecked 95% of the established power structure. There's no *big* empires here, and very few civilized worlds.

There is very little Imperial presence, aside from the massive Crusade that's been launched to reclaim Oestalan.

There's no Tyranid presence, nor Tau presence. Their canonical location is very far away from Segmentum Tempestus, where Oestalan is located.

Dark Eldar have little to raid here, so their involvement will be minimal, but not necessarily nonexistent.

There IS room for a few more Necron Tomb Worlds and/or minor dynasties, but there isn't a massive Necron empire here.

There IS room for a few more Chaos warbands. The sector has a very weak Warp presence for the most part, so Chaos warbands are likely drawn here for two main reasons: To prove to the Gods that they can fight even without their help, and prove worthy of their gifts by doing so, or to open a Warp Rift and bring back the Great Storm.

There IS room for two to five Space Marine chapters, NONE of which are native to the sector. They would be riding along the Crusade.

Likewise, there IS room for Imperial Guard in great numbers, all Crusades need them (Only War fans apply here, plz) and room for a handful of Sisters of Battle convent detachments.

We could use another Craftworld or two, bearing in mind that they would have been in a Warp Storm for nearly a thousand years, and only recently released.

We also have an anon who's willing to update the wiki (me), so if you have a good idea, and /tg/ likes it, odds are QUITE GOOD you'll get into the wiki.

So have fun, please don't yell at people, and let's make something worth reading!

Relevant info and links.

Shit, I forgot the thread title. Should I go back and make another thread, or can I edit this thread somehow?
>>
>>27182043

How about them Orks? Sisters of Battle?

Perhaps a devision of Techpriests?
>>
>>27182074
You wanna brew up some Sisters, go ahead. Orks, we already got a lot of them, and they live in the Green Traverse, our local LOLRANDOM sink of balkanized Ork warbosses.

If you want to fluff techpriests, read up on the Mechanicus Empire, they're a semi-Heretek techno empire who survived the Great Storm where others died. They have a tripartite political system, those who want to return to the Imperium, those who believe the Imperium was weak and should be destroyed, and those who want to wait to see if the Oestalan Crusade actually succeeds before making a decision.

Is it fine if I homebrew a planet and a guard regiment? I've got an idea that I think might be interesting.
>>
>>27182286
Don't make them the last regiment in the universe with nothing but Baneblades, don't make them ten million men strong, don't make them wield nothing but archaeotech, etc, etc, etc, and you're good.

Same thing I tell to everyone in these threads, just do a second check of your idea and try really hard to resist the temptation to make your personal stuff OP as fuck, and everything else will sort itself out.

Also learn to take criticism. Ignore blatant haters, but do please be ready to change if we see something bad with your stuff. Nobody gets to have their homebrew overshadow anyone else's, otherwise we'll have no contributors.

Sound fair?
>>
>>27181870
Can I make some loyalist Tech Priests on a hulk? Could be fun, and could provide intel on the Heretic empire for a price.
>>
>>27182343
Well, the gist of it is a bunch of retired guardsmen resettled on a planet to repopulate. Unfortunately, due to Administratum mistakes, everyone was about 20 years too old. Contact was recently reestablished and now the survivors are ready to go on one last crusade for the Emperor. A bunch of old folks who spent the last 10 years on a frozen hellhole orbiting a white dwarf.
>>
>>27182352
On a hulk? Maybe not, because techpriests trapped on something that jumps through the Warp unshielded aren't likely to come out the other side as loyalists, or even techpriests.

On a space station? As advance scouts of the Crusade, hunting archaeotech? Maybe.
>>
>We could use another Craftworld or two

How's this sound for a start:

“Whilst you dreamt of the skies, we knew the stars.” - Farseer Tethys

Before the collapse of the Imperium of Man and the fall of the Eldar, there existed a grand vessel designed with exploration at its forefront of purposes. This proud vessel now shoulders the burden of the continuation of its race. The exodus of the newly assigned Craftworld Cerethe was one of great calamity and confusion as its current crew at the time did not expect their vessel to be chosen to bear so many souls on board. As such, much of its internals and decks were not modified to house Eldar and could only take on so many on-board. The ship's crew took this failure and carried its weight into the turbulent fall of civilisation and beyond. Determined to make something of their failings they decided to re-appropriate only a third of the vessel and to keep the rest of its exploration devices. Their mission, instead of merely carrying their precious cargo of Eldar, was now to seek out new worlds to colonise and give rise to Maiden Worlds. Their voyage has taken them now to the recently revealed Oestalan sector, where perhaps they might find the homeworld they have been looking for, or their final resting place amongst the stars.
>>
>>27182372
Are you one of those guys who was part of that thread debating what happens to old Guardsmen a little while ago?

Making the Last Gasp Battallion sounds hilarious though, having an Archivist swap <40 years for >40 years of age on the recruitment forms, and suddenly a planet is stripped of its old, sparing the young. Seems very Administratum to me.
>>
>>27182392
Weren't Craftworlds designed as trader vessels?

Other than that, it seems OK. Fluff that shit out, bro.

Also, you imply that this Craftworld would be very depopulated compared to most because it wasn't designed for transport. Is that the case, or is it overcrowded as fuck, because it can't hold many people?

For the latter case, they'd be pretty desperate to get to a planet they could get supplies from, and describing the risky route they took to go as fast as possible could be cool.
>>
>>27182389
Maybe they crashed after their escape on a far off moon or asteroid?
>>
>>27182450
As far as I was aware it was the other way round. The 'Craftworlds' were just any big enough ship to carry Eldar the fuck out of there.

>population

Yeah good point, I wasn't clear. Basically they had to either leave a load of Eldar behind because they couldn't fit them, which they obviously felt like shit about. Their Craftworld will have a lesser population than your average one. I kinda imagine they'd be able to get the jump on people a lot and expect when they're coming, even for Eldar standards, due to their exploration and deep range scanners.

>they'd be pretty desperate

Yeah I got that feeling when I was writing it myself. Charging into the Oestalan sector just because it's new grounds to explore? Quite hasty.

As for their organisation I'd figure there might be a Farseer on board, the captain of the vessel, but I'd be open for there not being one as well, and a bunch of Seer Council members just run the ship from the bridge. Their numbers would be lacking but I imagine the vessel would be capable of defending itself, especially given it was used to explore deep space. Maybe they make use of grav-platforms a lot and Warp Spiders.
>>
>>27182463
If they're trapped in one spot, yet still close enough to provide intel, it's hard to explain how the Mechanicus Empire hasn't either conquered them or allied with them already.

But, if you want them to be that way, it sounds fine. Just explain how they survived the Great Storm without aid or significant resources for 1000 years.
>>
>>27182589
They would flee after the storm abated and then raid for supplies to build up their base/ stay alive.
>>
>>27182562
This is starting to sound like a large Eldar Battlecruiser rather than a Craftworld.

Remember, Craftworld's aren't warp capable, so they'd have to crawl along at sublight, praying that the Great Storm abated before they got there. The storm raged for 1000 years, so there'd just about *have* to be a Farseer on board to give them the confidence that heading directly into a massive Warp Storm wouldn't end in catastrophe.
>>
>>27182618
The storm raged pretty much constantly for 1000 years. It's the entire reason why Oestalan is largely empty of big high tech empires and Imperial presence.

They would have had to wait for a millennia before leaving shelter, is what I'm getting at. Fallout Mechanicus, maybe, living in a vault they built as the storm was forming. Now they've left, and are seeking supplies they desperately need. Trading intel might be part of that, because perhaps they can infiltrate the Mechanicus Empire better than anyone else, being Mechanicus themselves?
>>
>>27182626
That would have been a hell of a voyage.

"We're going to fly into that warp storm. My divination has revealed it will clear precisely when we need it to!"

They must have spent a long time on this voyage, preparing for their arrival. I wonder what the crews and their families did during that time? I wonder what they built in preparation? Maybe some big stocks of wraithbone so their singers could get some warp gates up and running on the planets they pass by. Maybe some enscribed with messages for other arriving Eldar, in some hope that they're laying the stones for a new civilisation. I'm thinking they could be desperate and upset over the past, but really confident and bright about the future.
>>
>>27182701
Fluff it out, bro. One thing I've noticed about homebrew threads of late is that you can't count on other anons to do your work for you. Get it rolling and people are more likely to contribute.

I at least promise to not judge your work, or anyone else's, unfairly, as best I am able. ;)
>>
>>27182662
Hmmm... Ill just go with the vault idea then.
>>
>>27182743
Lol, why so depressed? I'm just asking you to think about how your homebrew would have arisen, survived, and then what they would do when the storm passed. I'm not MAKING you go with my vault idea, Im just proposing an option for you to consider.

If you want your idea, please just explain how it fits into the sector's setting. That's all I ask. You'll get a better product anyway, because it won't feel shoehorned into existence, it'll be a natural consequence of history!

Is there any plans for a Deathwatch Fortress about?

I'm about to run a game of Deathwatch, and I like the jive of this system. Plus, my players have read absolutely everything about the Jericho reach, and I don't want to have to deal with their out-of-game knowledge - I've got it on good authority that they stay out of /tg/, and 4chan in general though. Oh, and they want to fight Orks, and preferably more than just random lootaz passing through.

Anyways, any good spots for a potential Deathwatch base? I'm thinking maybe an old, abandoned castle on some moon somewhere, recently discovered and supposedly once belonging to the Deathwatch - Although, it seems to be abandoned over the long years. Probably still has dead Marines about, ones missing for a very long time, clutching their weapons fighting some unknown foe.

Planet Fluffer anon from previous thread here once more, and Welcome back to Pavel Heleanis' Journey of Fun!

After leaving Blue Rock, aided by the planet's powerful Warp "tailwind", Trader Pavel covered a great distance before emerging from Warp space once more.

By his Navigator's reckoning, the good ship Goldhunter had emerged nearly at the fringes of the sector itself, and here the Trader found a marvel of the cosmos.

An oceanic planet rolled in its orbit around a hot, blue star, blinding in its majesty and utterly out of place in the dying stars of the Halo Zone. The world was a storm-tossed place, and plowing through the hundred-foot tall waves were dozens of armored Hive Ships, massive, circular domes protected from the wind, within which millions of civilians lived and died.

Originally, they were mining vessels, using divers and drills to extract resources for the Imperium from below the waves. As the Great Storm stripped Imperial presence from the sector, the resource rich world found itself cut off, and its mineral wealth went toward building and repairing the Hive Ships over the next thousand years.

Trader Pavel contacted the world, named Hydrageo VII, and reestablished contact. The locals welcomed him as a legend from distant times, and have promised to give the Crusade their support, as soon as it gets close enough to permit shipping of resources.

For now, Trader Pavel is reaping a vast bounty by using his ship to carry the most precious ores, and several other Traders and merchant captains are racing to tap into the planet's wealth for themselves. Pavel faces a decision now, to kill the competition, or annex it for himself.

Thoughts?
>>
>>27183043
There could easily be an abandoned base, but I do warn you that it would have been abandoned for nearly a thousand years.

It could have been discovered by the Crusade, no problem, and would probably be located near the Medegeminus system. Go ahead and fluff yourself a planet and/or moon.

They could help fight the Orks of the Green Traverse if they wanted, but we're not building your players and their characters into the sector, that's asking for real trouble and Mary Sue ism. You'll have to adapt the sector for them, not the other way around, kk?

The axe bit into the bark of the tree. It was a cold day on Geritine I, but then again, there were only cold days on Geritine I. The trees here weren't really trees, at least not the same kind of trees he knew on his homeworld, but they grew quickly and burnt well, and that was all that really mattered. He chopped at the tree again, and it toppled over, landing with a crunch in the snow. Silently, he began to process the tree into firewood. Once that was done, he began the slow march to the next snow oak, off in the distance.
He had to keep moving. Feyralian Fifth, Tomalz Ninth, Guldra One Hundred and Third, Mughal's Female Twelfth, Hyppolatan Twenty Second, all of these regiments, and yet none of them had been outfitted with winter gear. He would've chuckled, but there was a distinct risk his breath would freeze in their air. They had made do. That was what you did in the guard, you made do. He felt the chill in his bones. Every year, every week, every day, it felt worse and worse. A bleak reminder that he would die on this snowball, he and everyone else on world.
He reached the next tree and began to work. This last one would be enough for the day. Tomorrow he would come out again, and find more firewood. Others would hunt or make repairs on the shelters. The military apparatus still chugged along, even though the cogs were rusty and several of the parts broken beyond repair. After all, each day was still a battle, just a battle of a different sort. Even young men would struggle in a place like this. The Enginseer had tried to explain it to him once. Something about the white dwarf, the composition of the atmosphere, the reflectiveness of ice and the Litany of Albedo. He hadn't understood, even though it was as lay an explanation as the man could give (and a more complicated one would be forbidden, regardless). It wasn't his place to understand. All he had to do was obey. Do what had to be done. For God-Emperor and Imperium.

“Colonel-Commissar. Second Lieutenant Esau Goldman, reporting for duty,” whispered the man.
The wind whispered back. At ease. Ten years ago, the Administratum had taken them all here. They were supposed to repopulate the world and make it prosper. Trouble was, they were all too old. The Dynas Campaign, the Mortre Crusade, the Siege of Kruxas IV. Years slipped by, until the young enlisted men had gone into middle age, hair already graying. It was the same with the female regiments assigned. It almost seemed like the Administratum had a perverse sense of humor. Dying regiments on a dead planet in the ass crack of the galaxy. He picked up his tools and firewood, and walked to the village gates. They slowly creaked open.
Waiting there was the Enginseer, as young today as the day they made planetfall. His steel mandibles clacked and his multiple compound eyes gleamed in recognition.
“Welcome back Lieutenant,” said the steel man.
“Status report. How are the men doing?” asked Lieutenant Goldman.
“Less,” replied the Enginseer.
Same as it ever was.
“And our supplies?” asked the Lieutenant.
“The viability of our colony is growing by the day. We are up to three years of food and two weeks of heat,” droned the Enginseer.
The man sighed and went to store the firewood. The Enginseer nodded, and went back to tinkering with one of his machines. When they had arrived, there were thirty thousand of them. Now they barely numbered enough to form one regiment. He had fought orks, eldar, and separatists, but it seemed none of them could fight time.
>>
>>27183190
Did they repopulate the planet? Cause being ordered to leave your children behind to crusade again could be some good, tearjerker ground to explore.
>>
>>27183211
He walked back to the gate. The Enginseer looked at him, then looked outside.
“There is a man approaching the settlement. He is currently 1578 meters away and is advancing at 5 km/h. Based on his clothing, he is not one of ours, but he is Imperial. Response?” asked the Enginseer.
“What?”
“I said, there is a man approac-”
“I know that, you damned idiot. Who the hell would be on this backwater?”
“I am currently unable to speculate to adequate mathematical precision at this time. Please contact Mars for a suitable upgrade.”
“Make a guess.”
“Beep boop.”
“That's not a guess.”
“Yes. I am currently unable to speculate to adequate mathematical precision at this time. Please contact Mars for a suitable upgrade.”
“You're not being very helpful right now.”
“You are currently the ranking officer, and I have provided as much information as I can glean at the moment. Please hold. Calculating. It seems that he has a vehicle of some sort, and will be here in approximately five minutes. Twelve minutes. Two hours. Four minutes. Ten seconds.”
There was a knocking at the gate. They opened, revealing a short, fat man looking very irritated.
“Are you the governor of this despicable snowball?” asked the portly man with a sneer.
“I am the ranking officer here.”
“Very well then, it is your pleasure to be providing one regiment of guardsmen as your tithe. They will be equipped with only the best lasguns and flak armor the Emperor has to offer. Transport has been arranged for you. Have your men ready by tomorrow.”
The fat man got on his bike and sped away.
The Lieutenant was momentarily stunned.
“Get the boys together,” he said. “It's time to die like we were meant to.”

No, the youngest of them were in their 40s when they were dumped there. But someone should write a story about leaving your kids to crusade, I bet it would make good material.

Shit, man, this is pretty good.

Whenever you're done, giving me a summary of the planet, and of the Guard regiment will help, so I can have something concise to put into the wiki page.
>>
>>27183137
That's fine, I wasn't about to talk about that. I was thinking of a place, and maybe a few people who are leading the efforts to re-colonize the base. Y'know, plot hooks.

What do you guys think of a wandering planetoid, something like Pluto? At different times, it'll be in different parts of the system, perfect for monitoring the various planets as it comes close to each. That sounds a little bit speshul and it could have some dire consequences if it goes near the latter few planets, though.

Would a place near Grant's Landing, where it would be quickly found by the Crusade in it's early stages, or one of the Deathworlds be fine? A moon nearby or summat. They seem far enough away from the the more civilized worlds to be out of their hair and secrative, but close enough to get tithes - Good for a group of people who don't like being bothered by petty politics in favor of finding aliens and making them go away.
>>
>>27183341
Sure, I'm going to go down to Carl's for lunch, so I'll do that later. I can't write smut for beans (my necron/eldar fic was more comedy than porn), so I don't writefag often. Thanks for the compliment, it means a lot to me.
>>
>>27183362
Deathworld, Grant's Landing, whatever, seems fine to me. Fluffing your own planet for it to orbit would probably be best, though.

If you want, fluff out a whole system for it, and describe the various planets.

Easiest solution is to have it be exactly like Pluto, in terms of tilted, long orbit, but have the orbit path be more like a comet than a planet, very elliptical. Maybe even put in that the planetoid's orbit was artificially stabilized by the base, (and have it be small enough for a base to be able to do so), and if the base isn't reconquered and fixed in the next few orbits (to be fair, the orbit would probably be several hundred years), it will crash into one of the inner planets, destroying whatever relics and data it has inside.

That seem like a fun idea? (feel free to change it or ignore it as you like, of course.)
>>
>>27183402
Like I've been telling everyone in these threads, constructive criticism isn't that hard, and encouraging writefagging is usually a good policy, so long as everyone remembers that guidelines don't strangle fun if applied properly, they breed creativity. :)

It had been a thousand years. Against the odds Core 5 had held against the Abomination Magna class warp storm. Set deep into the cooled iron center the moon Yarsis of planet Jalix Teritio it was as stable as could be, but Tech Priest Ferux knew that the multilayered Gellar fields anchored around the site were its real defense. Various notices were being relayed to him by the withered servitors at their consoles. Primary was that the outermost shield had gone in sudden increase of warp energy as the storm finally blew itself out. But the rest were holding strong so there was little worry there. Next a side console informed him of the rest of the team coming out of cryo-stasis. Every one was proceeding appropriately except Secutor Qorrus, but that was do to his high mass, and would be sorted out shortly. What little hope Ferux could feel lightened his soul as the communication array light up with activity. He quickly strode over to the receiver and listened at various frequencies. The few facial muscles he had left tightened in anger and disgust. All he could hear was the monstrous wails and screeching chatter of machine code filed with foul blasphemes and cruel threats. He quickly changed the array from the old empire to the various other Cores. Core One droned like thousands of insects. Two and Three were silent. Four seemed to be silent except for a slight breathing, and as a nearby servitor's mounting unit creaked the broadcast from Core 4 also creaked a moment later. Ferux glanced at the caster console. Dead, and with no power going to it. He quickly shut off the receiver as the organic side of his brow beaded sweat. He was spared further horrors as Magos Tergus and Secutor Qorrus entered the command nave. "Report" hissed the Magos as Qorrus stomped over to the preator assembly.

Helpful tip: Paragraphs are really helpful for us to read your writing better.

I think I'm going to write a little Ork/imperial guard combat, but I have a quick question first; Is the imperial crusade halted because of the orks operating from the Medigeminus system? The arrow indicating the crusade makes it look like they've hit it and stopped. What's the situation between the orks and imperials?
>>
>>27183411
>Fluff out a whole system for it

I have to admit, that didn't even cross my mind. I might just start doing so, but I'll probably leave it at one planetoid that can be added to a system - Not everyone wants Deathwatch all up in their biz, after all. Although, a Rogue Trader fighting with a Deathwatch group over the relics within an ancient castle sounds like an awesome campaign.

Also, I love your plotline, I'll probably incorporate some of it. Gives a good sense of urgency to getting the base up and running, which will probably mean getting favors from the various factions in-system.

I love the feeling when a whole campaign just writes itself, right in front of you. Will write in the meantime.
>>
>>27183462
The previous threads fought about that a lot. My suggestion is that we say the Crusade has broken through the belt, punching two holes in the Ork occupation.

Rotation brings new Orks in constantly, and the purged rocks rotate away from easy control and get repopulated.

The Crusade has made inner Medigeminus a haven/resupply point, and has pushed a ways past the system to begin establishing the first imperial colonies, but the outer planets in Medigeminus are constantly under attack from the Green Traverse, though they have been settled.

Sound good?
>>
>>27183533
Sounds good. In fact, it sounds like heaven for orks. They get to fight, have a break for a few months/years to train, re-equip and eat, then get thrown back in. Not sure if it's anywhere near as good for the imperials.
>>
>>27183561
Yep. The imperials have to keep punching the supply route clean, which takes forces away from the main Crusade, but they can't just stop and clear the entire Traverse because it's HUGE, and they have to satisfy the commanders by pushing beyond Medigeminus.

So basically, the Traverse is a pair of half circles separated by a few million kilometers, with an Imperial Crusade flowing through the gaps. As the belt rotates, it brings in a slow conveyor belt of new Orks.
>>
Ah, cool, one of these threads. I was involved in the first couple but I've been away for a few months so... what're we working on now? If I remember correctly when I was last here we were finishing up that first system.
>>
>>27183498
Yeah, I meant fluff the system (most of which will be feral or depopulated, given Oestalan's fluff, just as an fyi), and give it to us so we can put it on 1d4chan. Could provide a good spot for some more storytime, which is the lifeblood of these homebrew projects.
>>
>>27183632
Medigeminus still needs some work, if only to get rid of the faggot who scrambled how the system is set up and wrote in a bunch of his own planets without consulting anyone.

All we have established for certain at the base level is this:

Medigeminus, primary star. Big red supergiant.

Pinprick, neutron star, has an asteroid belt orbiting very close to it.

14 planets of some variety.

Green Traverse, massive, massive, MASSIVE asteroid belt built from the debris of the Pinprick's planetary nebula, full of Orks of every type and description. Thousands, maybe Millions of Warbosses, fighting over the millions upon millions of asteroids. Very Balkanized, no one warboss can get a Waagh, but that may change with the big target that is the Imperials, which may galvanize the Orks into unity.
>>
>>27183617
That is glorious. I've been playing orks for seven years and been writing about them for almost as long, and that's the best bit of orkiness I've heard in a long time.

Okay, the fight is going to be between some guardsmen from Akturi Alpha and Deffskull orks. As it will be told from the guardsman's point of view, I'm going to leave the warband name of the ork's blank. If you think it should be a particular group, you could always mention it if you put it in the wiki.

Where in the wiki would writing like mine go?
>>
>>27183685
We haven't made a Storytime section yet, really, so I'm not sure. Feel free to make a placeholder section for that though.
>>
>>27183681
Sounds good. Were the inner planets all finalised properly?
>>
>>27183681
Medigeminus also has an asteroid belt of the same type and rough size as Earth's belt, orbiting in the middle of the 14 planets.

>>27183705
None of the planets were really finalized, save for i think it was named Eclipse or something, the iceball elliptical orbiter where the CanoptekCrons lived.

One douche tried to say that his special homebrew fortress world had somehow held out in the inner system, fighting the Traverse in its entirety for a thousand years, an was gratefully welcoming the Crusade, but that's kinda OP.
>>
>>27183685
The point of the Green Traverse being so huge, orbiting the entire system as it does, was to give everyone a place to write a little Warboss and his group of their very own, and to take a break from more serious sector writing and be a little more loose for a while.

Some people called it a creativity dump, but I'm hoping it can be interesting if we remember that it's a tool and use it properly.

So, feel free to write your own Warboss, just don't make him OP. There's thousands more like him out there, at MINIMUM, and taking on one Warboss means that ten more might stab you in the ass, you know?
>>
>>27183685
One thing though. We may have to restructure the Medigeminus system, as people took it over just for their special snowflakes, so the inner system may have to be scrubbed and rewritten later.

You could have them fight ON Akturi Alpha, but I would recommend having the Guard regiment originate elsewhere.

Hell, maybe write about the fight to liberate the planet. The Orks of the Green Traverse could have let a few stragglers slip past long ago, though they usually kill everyone trying to claim the inner system, because no one warboss can escape his jealous brethren.
>>
>>27183733
Looking at the wiki now. Did we come up with a SM chapter for the crusade?
>>
>>27183703
I'm really shit with the wiki and have been yelled out for using it wrong before. I'd prefer to just hand it to someone else.

>>27183758
It's a lovely idea, and really does let ork enthusiasts go crazy. What really gets me is how orky it is. A conveyor belt of green death that just keeps going round...

I'd say that a lot of locations in the GW canon of WH40K are creativity dumps, so it's not a bad thing.

I might after a bit, but it's a little early for that.

I have two questions; What are the asteroids composition and size (environment, atmosphere, plant life, gravity, cities, etc) or are they all different? And how often are these threads often up?

Me again, what is that about Akturi Alpha? Has it fallen to the orks? In which case they will be from somewhere else, as I was really just picking a place for the guardsman to come from.
>>
>>27183833
Asteroids are relatively small, perhaps the largest would be a hundred miles across or so. They formed from condensation of the Pinprick's planetary nebula and other accretions, so they're fairly widely dispersed despite their smallish size and great number.

Threads aren't up often. We're just getting started again after some very ugly fights, and I'm trying my hardest to get people interested, but also CONSTRUCTIVE, rather than angry and hostile.

>>27183822
No SMs yet. Brewing chapters inside of the Oestalan thread has proven difficult in the past, so maybe brainstorm in a separate thread, and bring your ideas back here?
>>
>>27183856
No, people wrote that the Medegeminus system had some significant native/industrial presence, which wasn't fitting the sector fluff. The thread died before anyone could propose alternative options, so the wiki has a lot of obsolete crap that needs to be swept out, especially in the Medigeminus System section.

Basically, if you want to write about fighting Orks, that's fine, but they're largely confined to the Green Traverse, because no warboss wants his neighbor to seize the system's riches.

However, if you had a Guard regiment, they could be part of the team ceaselessly fighting to keep the supply lanes clean, or perhaps one of the teams that helped punch through to begin with....
>>
>>27183955
No, not really my thing, sorry. I ended up being the guy who made sure everything was recorded in the wiki, and kept all the Anons on track for brainstorming.
>>
>>27183433
"We are alone lord" wheezed Ferux replied. "The Empire has fallen to the warp and the rest of the Cores are silent or displaying what I can only call vox anomalies." The Magos stood for a moment assessing such a huge loss then replied "The Cores were the most protected sites the Mechanicus could produce, and all but ours fell, thus we are the anomaly in this situation. I want to know why." At this he turned towards Qorrus. "Secutor. How have the defenses held?"

"There has been no breach of the fields or the armor, but there are some odd readings inside the main access ways. Unaccountable heat and pressure differences around 20 years ago. I have already alerted Decanus Zertak and his squad to do a sweep." grated Qorrus. After some quick searching Ferux found a strange coincidence. "Magos that time frame is when some of the greatest energies from the storm were released, and there seems to be field disturbances in sequence right at that time."

>Trying to set up a bit of a creepy atmosphere
>>
>>27184011
I was just going to choose one from the list, as it's not a terribly vital detail in the story. The important thing is the sense of anger that the guardsman feels at being in this fight at all, so him being a member of a regiment that are hopelessly trying to keep the supply lines clear fits perfectly. Should I choose one form the list or is there a particular regiment that has been doing that?
>>
>>27184072
Sure. Choose one that hasn't had any fluff written yet, if you wouldn't mind, so we can start with a clean slate and not have to retcon your stuff if one of the established Guard Regiments turns out to be crap, mmk?
>>
So how does a new anon contribute to this setting? Just post in the thread and good ideas will get added to the wiki page?
>>
>>27184131
Seems so, I'm just lurking.

WRITEFAGGOTRY, ENGAGE!
TELL THE STORY, OF THE OESTALON DEATHWATCH

The ancient being in front of them rumbled, gears whirring and then grinding,
dust flying out from every corner and cobwebs fell from the ceiling as the entire
room shuddered from the strain. Twelve Guardsmen, those in His divine service, watched
in awe as servos revved and then failed, lights blinking on and fading just as quickly,
until enough dust and earth had fallen away from the mound before them to reveal
His servant.

It was enormous, gilded with the Imperium Aquila in true gold that, despite the ages,
had refused to lose it's luster. The rest of the steel behemoth had not fared so well.
Steel shutters, thick enough to deflect Lascannons and shrug off cannons, now had
rusted beyond use. An ancient pattern assault cannon attempted to spin once more,
but stopped after only a moment. An enormous hand clenched, then opened, and as if a
miracle, raised up towards the ceiling before dropping slowly - That one arm still
worked at all was the Emperor's will itself. Yet that was all that would move -
After an eternity of ages, the Dreadnought before them was otherwise broken beyond repair.

"HAVE YOU COME TO RELIEVE ME, CHILDREN OF THE EMPEROR?" It's voice boomed across the
empty stone walls, gilded in nothing but rot and ruin now.

"I HAVE SPENT SO MANY YEARS WAITING. I HAVE FOUGHT OFF ALIENS, WHAT FEW WOULD COME,
AND I HAVE FOUGHT OFF MY OWN DOOM LONG ENOUGH. THOUGH MY OPTICS HAVE FAILED ME,
I WELCOME YOU TO BRUTUS' KNIFE. I AM THE LAST OF MY BROTHERS, THE FINAL CAPTAIN OF THE
DEATHWATCH, BUT I CAN WAIT NO MORE.

"HAVE YOU COME TO RELIEVE ME, BROTHER?"
>>
>>27184185
Eleven men lowered theirselves in blessed reverence to the glorious machine, but one,
clothed in a black coat and armed with chains and locks and wings of the Emperor, stood
as if making a decision. He swallowed, before walking afore the still-living
Sarcophogas, and spoke.

"Yes, brother, I swear that I shall keep this place safe in your absense. Your
duty is done." He lied, words that will require penance later, but he sensed the
ancient Marine's weakness. Someone had to take up the slack here.

One enormous arm, the only thing left in the Armature that could work, came down and
opened once more before the human. In it was a small eagle, a badge in the shape of
the Aquila, attached via a maglock years ago. Delicately, the man in black took the
artefact, and the tomb spoke again.

"THEN I LEAVE THIS PLACE IN YOUR HANDS NOW. NOW, I SHALL REST... JUST UNTIL
I AM... NEEDED ONCE MORE..." The dull green light on it's faceplate faded along with the
Dreadnought's voice, until the room was still once more. If anything, it seemed
even quieter than before, as though a great presence had left it.

The man ran his fingers along the Aquila badge of honor, then turned to his men.
"Get command on the Vox. Tell them to contact the Ordos Xenos, in the name of
Inquisitor Micheal Thesselson. Tell them to bring the Deathwatch back home."
>>
>>27184199
>Now for the useful information

On a rogue planetoid in the Oestelan system, there lies a cold and dark secret
from a past age. Once the home of a mighty group of Space Marines known as the
Deathwatch, the planetoid contains an enormous fortress, known as Brutus' Knife.
Named after an early Deathwatch Captain who began it's storied history, the Knife
was once a vanguard in the defense against the Xenos who preyed upon the sector.

Then the Warp Storm hit, and the Knife was lost. Although it's inhabitants had
fought bravely, they had fought without supplies, without support, and without hope
until it was destroyed, down to the last man - A single Dreadnought, who stood at it's
inner gate and refused to move, denying it's gifts to the various attackers, raiders,
and any who dared to venture into the fort.

Now, it has been discovered once more by the members of the Oestalan crusade. The
Inquisitor who discovered it, Inquisitor Thesselson, has sworn an oath to the
Emperor that he will ensure that the Ancient who put his faith - However misplaced -
in the Inquisitor will not have fought for so long in vain. He has contacted the
Deathwatch, which has sent a small contingent to re-claim the fortress, and to re-engage
operations within the Xenos infested sector.

However, it is not so simple as moving into the ancient space castle. In ages past,
the Knife had used Archeotechnology to re-align the Planetoid it sits on into a more
stable orbit around it's system. Without the technology being constantly repaired,
the orbit has grown more and more unstable with every passing year - And it has
been many years since the fortress has been used. Within the next 10 years, it will
likely crash into the surface of one of the planets, or, in the worst case, be sent
into the Sun itself, and all of it's secrets will be lost forever.
>>
>>27184214
There is also the case of clearing it's hallways out. So many years in a Warp Storm,
the castle has grown weird and probably is infested with something This could be dealt
with, except that every door and gate is locked with an intricate set of codes and
vaulted doors. Since the previous occupants have passed away, no living being has the
authorization to open these doors - The Deathwatch must either break the doors down,
or somehow guess the combinations, and both will take much time. This makes
even setting foot into the castle a difficult proposition.

Finally, ownership of the castle has been challenged on several fronts. Similarities
between the Knife and a once-lost Fortress-Monastary of the Black Templars have
called into question rightful ownership of the castle. In addition, there are any number
of other faction in Oestalon who would kill to gain access to it's mysteries.
For now, the various Space Marines have agreed to get the castle operational first, and
decide who owns it later, but both sides are carefully watching to try and usurp control
over the castle.

>>27184225

Anyone see any huge problems with this? I just cranked this out, but I don't want to step on any toes.
>>
>>27184125
Okay, sounds good. I think I'm going to go with the Nixon Rifles, of which there are apparently 402 regiments. I will take the 401st as the one to write about. I'll use this as a starting point and hopefully flesh out the regiment as I go along.
>>
>>27184131
Pretty much. All we ask is that you keep in mind the themes of the sector, read what others have written (and ideally offer helpful criticism), and don't write things that are going to be incendiary (Lost Primarchs being found here, etc), OP (Grey Knight Successors found here, holding the warp at bay for 1000 years), and so forth. Also, be prepared to take advice on how your ideas can be enhanced, and don't get so defensive that you take everything personally. Trolls may show up, that's just part of life on 4chan.

Other than that, have fun!
>>
>>27184265
Groovy. Already had some ideas for the Sororitas Order of the Violet Flame, although the actual name of the order is easily changed.
Would it be out of place if they had items/equipment not explicitly in the 5th ed codex? A relic powerfist sounds like something a Canoness would wield, for example.
>>
>>27184242
Looks pretty nice, I don't see any problems with it.
>>
>>27184225
Seems pretty OK, so long as the data and relics, whatever they happen to be, aren't super OP.

Did the Dreadnought remain active for a thousand years? if so, holy shit, that's incredible. Almost.... too much so.

Maybe say that the Dread was hooked into the planetoid's cogitator directly, accessing greater resources for his continued survival than most Dreads can access, because they have to be mobile, but he could be stationary, guarding the fort?

His mental fortitude would have had to be incredible as well. A true shame such a strong servant of the Emperor had to remain awake for so long, in the silence and pain...
>>
>>27184305
I dunno Sisters fluff very much, so as long as no one else says it's impossible, I guess it's OK. You'd fluff it as a smaller powerfist designed for their smaller armor, prolly.
>>
>>27184323
Perhaps he had himself in a shallow sleep and woke up every time something came by. Then the Dread of Ages would only have to be awake half the time.
This guy needs a suitably awesome name. "Something Something the Eternal" or suchlike.
>>
>>27181870
Oi. I said that the RZAC are NOT part of the crusade.

They existed before the crusade arrived. Theres nothing random about that. So dont mess with the lore.
>>
Does anyone have any artistic/Photoshop skills? Eventually we're going to BADLY need someone to help us expand the title image to reflect the updated sector map, because we can't keep retelling the story of every planet, system, and space anomaly.
>>
>>27184371
Really? The fluff you wrote didn't say where their homeworld was.
>>
>>27184371
It's been 1000 years since any of the worlds in this sector had contact with the Imperium. These guys are just sitting in the middle of nowhere, buried in warp energy until recently, then, while still being a regiment?
>>
>>27184396
NVM, i see where you implied it was near the Ootraki. It wasn't clear the way you wrote it though. Feel free to edit the wiki and place them where they need to be, but you might want to consider this anon's question >>27184418 as to how they survived as a regiment for so long.
>>
>>27184444
Nice quads.
>>
>>27184323
No real plans for super OP data & relics, it's probably the usual stuff - Legendary sword, legendary armor, legendary gun, legendary other, all scattered about and a super pain in the ass to get ahold of.

Apart from that, it would probably have whatever's left of the resources that would have been around - Some Terminator armor, some extra power armor, extra weapons (But no ammo, those all got shot up), but relatively little in good condition - A good amount of gear might come from dessicated corpses of the Marines who died, so long ago, still lying where they died protecting the Base.

The only thing that might end up being OP would be the Archeotech device in the centre of the base, but the entire point of that is to be some sort of gravity well generator so that the entire castle can go ahead and not crash into the sun. But, I mean, I don't even want to know what a group of PC's can do with a gravity generator, and if a Rogue Trader got ahold of it, HOLY SHIT...

Although, by that point they've probably earned it.

>>27184365
>"Something Something the Eternal"
Actually, let's go with that. The dude has been an absolute trooper for so long, he out-lasts half his Dreadnought, and, in the end, outlasting his name. Extensive research on the body finds that all nameplates and evidence of WHO was in the Dreadnought was destroyed by combat and by time.

So, one of the mysteries can be, who was the Dreadnought? Who was the last marine standing? As such, he might be known only as "The Ancient Eternal" or something such as that. Honored and respected, but in the Grim Darkness of the Far Future, his actual name has been lost.
>>
>>27183341
>>27183402
Alright, the planet of Geritine I was chosen for settlement due to its rich deposits of Tantalum, Niobium, and Lithium. It has liquid water, but the oceans are trapped underneath massive sheets of ice. The planet is locked in an eternal winter. The planet is not in Oestalan proper, instead sitting in the sector prior, but the local Mechanicus wants to exploit the resources, and will probably send another group of colonists if the crusade is successful, annexing it to Oestalan. The new regiment, the Last Gasp Regiment, is a combination of five previous regiments. As such, it is oversupplied. It is highly experienced, and the members are old and about to die anyways, so they are unlikely to break and rout under pressure. Unfortunately, their advanced age also makes them frail, and significantly reduces their combat capabilities. The leader is the newly promoted Colonel Esau Goldman, and the de facto second-in-command is the Enginseer XIIL-3B3RT. They have been assigned a commissar, James Coolidge, a young man almost fresh out of the Schola.
>>
So an idea for a Xenos race.

Yrashn VI
Yrashn VI is a large, warm, wet and swampy planet. The atmosphere has an abundance of oxygen and H2O. This has resulted in reptiles being in feasible for survival. Amphibians and giant insect rule. The Osterii are the pinnacle of Amphibious evolution. Three metres tall, with a metre long tail, sharp claws and powerful jaws, they as physically intimidating as Orks. Slow, yet powerful, their jaws can crush a guardsman in armour. Their weaponry is chemically based, relying on chemical reactions on piercing armour, and acids to damage muscle. They also use a high amount of flamers. They have domesticated several species, including some of the giant insects.

After further analysis Ferux added "The disturbances start at the outer shields and proceed inwards, then a few hours later they reverse and go back out in the same manner. What could have done this lord?" Tergus was pacing as he often did when nervous. "Something was here, something that could defy a warp storm, slip through our fields, and leave little trace of who it was or what it was doing." Just then the Secutor announced that the search was over and nothing had been found. 'I doubt we will ever find what was here Secutor, but do not agitate, there is much to do. Keep a squad on patrol, but have the rest ready themselves for scouting and shock assault."

After Qorrus relayed instruction to his squads and left the bridge the Magos took the station com and stated the Exponential Dirge, a binary song for the greatest of sorrows. On a sub channel he explained the situation to the rest of the Tech Priests and Skitarri warriors readying for battle. When his summary was over he added "The Omnisiah does not forget his people, nor does he forgive traitors. Mars will send help brothers, and soon the cogs of Oestalan will turn again."

So basically, a Mechanicus base managed to weather through the Warp Storm the entire time? Probably fine, there's a significant Mechanicus presence near the center of the sector. This would be one of the moons that didn't decide to go all rogue and such, and they probably have most of their machines still working until the Crusade finds them. Neat.
>>
>>27184778
No, Tarkus. Wasn't his name the Eternal at one point in DoW II?
>>

Fluffing out their thoughts and actions when they first notice the Crusade's presence would also be appropriate.

Ah, Tarkus was called "The Ancient" in DOW2: Retribution.
>>
>>27184834
Yea. The 5 tech priests rotate out of cryo ever 50 years, one over seeing the Core and logging the storm. The Cores arent in the actual empire but around it to monitor different parts of the storm. The moons surface is barren and empty while the centers are small outposts.

Is there room for some human worlds that are non imperial perhaps?

I was thinking of a three or five system political block, perhaps a alliance or something similar.

I am thinking a longshot project launched before the Dark Age, and before proper warp drive got developed that missed the mark a bit.

With a very active and massive drive into Education, Trade, Research, Engineering and the needed security to survive.

Perhaps developing something like the Tau warp skimming drive, and not gellar fields. They would come into conflict with the Mecanicus by dint of ideology eventually, or manage to set up a beneficial relationship only to have a later conflict erupt due to Imperial policy that all humans have to be under imperial governance.

For the ships i was thinking drive plates akin to radiators along the ship functioning as a hovercraft or a scramjet.

Say, the Six Star Union, founded by the original long shot colony and its two adjacent star system it governs and the other two older and further colonies that broke off administratively and politically, and the capital in a empty system aboard a cluster of stations serving as way point between them, and diplomatic center. I am thinking something along the lines of Caprica/Blood and Chrome, GitS, BT Sphere after they got better on society and culture. Some kind of de-facto nobility in various fields.

The feel on the ships and military would be akin to Blood and Chrome episode 3 and 4. Cramped passage way more so than a sub, a command post that is a tiny bit larger than a 747 cockpit cramming more than half a dozen people in it, unlike the Large thrones and halls of the Imperium. Exposed internal machinery, but no decorations, save for perhaps something very personal in a very personal space and no dust or rust if the crew can help it.

Highly paranoid and compartmentalized organization relying on deception & stealth, with ghost fleets and successful intel ops to survive Waaghs, Xeno incursion.
>>
>>27184305
As promised, first draft for The Order. I've deliberately left the naming vague, just in case the name gets changed later.

Attached to the Osetalan Crusade forces by decree of the Adeptus Ministorum, the Order has accompanied the fleet in the priory-barge "Saint Andura". Appointed not only to safeguard Cardinal Orlando Martelus but to directly prosecute the crusade against whatever heretics that may be found in the sector, the Order holds its martial duty to Church and God-Emperor to the highest degree, lest the weak willed or doubtful use their example to turn from the light of the Emperor's grace.

Lead by the stern guidance of Canoness Sedra, the Order numbers a mere two hundred Battle Sisters. However, under the Canoness' leadership and backed by the arms and vehicular might from the "Saint Andura's" armouries, those two hundred can match the power of an Imperial Guard regiment in the prosecution of the enemy.

Like others of the Adeptus Sororitas, the Order is armed with the 'holy trinity' of weapons: the blessed bolter; the clensing melta; and the purifying flamer. Each point in the trinity is well represented in the Order's armouries, but pride of place is reserved for the Order relics ordained for use during the crusade.
>>
>>27185200
Alternatively, how about a post-Imperial world that rode out the warp storm by setting up Gellar mines or something that cut the whole system off from the warp but let them live unscathed?
Now that the warp is clear once more, the Gellar Walls are coming down and the now independently prosperous worlds of the ??? system aren't in any hurry to rejoin an Imperium they fell abandoned them.
>>
>>27185200
Just keep it low powered, and make sure the means why which they reached the sector aren't bullshit or OP.
>>
>>27184674
Suppressants slowly dripped into Qorrus' system. How could the entire empire be changed? Even Geenox? The Iron Slab? Formis Ailtae? The Capitol, Omniprax? How could such power totally switch itself over to such insanity. Even his beloved Ardix was now a shattered hell hole filled with raving lunatics instead of the well drilled legions that he remembered. Damn this storm. He clunked down the passage slowly curling his fingers into a fist despite the suppressants. As he approached his squads he bellowed "The Empire has rusted, now we must melt them down and make them anew!" To which they roared back "Mechanicus Triumpho!" Scared Bardercans. Regal Cerebrosus. Fanged Rabidus. Lithe Venator on patrol. And Immunis still calmly sleeping along with his squad in deep cryo. As he remembered their bloody history hope rekindled and he roar along with his monstrous brothers.
>>
>>27185200
Furthering on that I would think it would be nice if they had a few Skynet/Cylon event and managed to win it by defeating the corrupted software platforms and reestablishing proper user control and admin rights. Stil a bit paranoid about full AIs and using mostly idiotAI or limitedAI and VIs, with a few highly controlled full AIs used for analysis and computation. Still, autonomous drones and robots doing minor tasks unsupervised to provide a Iron Man like revelation for the mechanicus.

For cybernetics i was thinking very humanlike wares, a cyborg having to look and be able to function still as a human, thus cybernetic hands that can still feel pressure, heat, etc. and are of the same form the limb was lost, and if there are extra toys they are in internal bays where they retract after active usage if they need to come out. A minor visual and stylistic difference and preference.

Another would be the heavy reliance on their scram like drive that scales with size, thus the smaller you are the more cost effective the drive, allowing for something like a raptor, if somewhat larger, and with heavy restrictions like one jump every X hours only, jump distance limit to one skimming (thus only short range), and making the use of a navigator impossible. Transforming the doctrine very dependent on heavy use of fighter craft and escort sized support vessels mostly. Moving their stations every way around for safety and being able to do precision jumps inside a solar system, but having to take longer time traveling than the Imperial full dive and without the benefit of navigators.

A very elusive target that can avoid being hit unless there is a need for a fight above their home worlds.

I'd like to see especially how the Mecanicus handle this and how various IG and Navy persons will deal with it in either a position of a enemy or a ally, since it is imagined to be able to stand on its own either way.

Okay, ork versus Nixon Rifles,Regiment 401, story complete and ready for posting!

Tullun felt the air heaving in his lungs, the pumping of his heart and the pounding of his feet in the mud objectively, as if someone else was running for their life and he was merely watching. He knew that at this moment he was terrified, exhilarated and angry but he knew these things in the same way as he knew that a rock thrown into the air will fall down. They were just facts that he had registered, and had no feeling about. A strange calm had gripped his mind, leaving his body and feelings to stew in their own juices. In this moment of extreme clarity, he could feel everything with crystal clearness. He felt the ache in his collarbone, from when he had fallen out of his bunk in transit a week ago. The cut on the inside of his lip he had given himself this morning was sending little nicks of pain through his mouth. A bead of sweat that was trickling down his spine was really getting n his nerves, but felt better than his collarbone. Then suddenly the moment was over and he was simply running for his life, focussed on nothing but the flight.

As his eyes slid across the ground, Tullun saw the gap of the first trench in front of him. It yawned open like a chasm or a canyon, despite only being a metre or so wide. He wasn't sure he could jump it in one, but was even less sure he would survive long enough to slow down and find the stairs. The distance between him and the trench was closing fast, yet all he could think about was the cackles of glee that were coming from behind him. They weren't close, but they were almost certainly coming from a green mouth that was attached to s a gun. Probably via a body and an arm, but who knew with orks?

>Cont.
>>
>>27185530
Then the trench was before him and his legs sent him flying a cross. Lumps of cold mud flew across the gap with him, seeming to hang in the air like the asteroid he fought on. The edge of the trench rushed up to meet him, slamming into his chest. He hadn't quite made the jump and he could feel the wet earth on the lip of the trench sliding out from under him. With a gasp and a twist, he managed to stretch a leg up to join his arm on the lip. He heaved and wriggled, trying to get his other leg up and continue running. As he managed to get just enough leverage to roll over onto the ground on his desired side of the trench, something landed heavily in the mud a metre away. His eyes snapped up and his hands fumbled for the las-rifle strapped to his chest. As he his eyes took in the figure, he almost relaxed. It was the diminutive form of Telak, a guardsman he had seen around the place for several years. It figured that the small, stunted runner had managed to clear the trench in a single leap. As their eyes met, Tullun started to force himself to his feet. Telak made a motion as if to offer him a hand, then made a strangled yelp. It was preceded by the crack of a bolter round. As Tullun stared a Telak, the smoking hole in his chest was impossible to miss. The other guardsman toppled backwards, back into the trench they had sought so hard to clear. Looking to where the shot had come from, Tullun saw properly the things he had been running from; Orks.

The lumbering green brutes were only a few dozen metres away, and by the throne there were a lot of them. Their blue smeared green shapes filled the landscape, though there were doubtless many more shrouded by the all encompassing mist. The ork who had shot Telak was looking at Tullun in amazement, far more surprised to have hit anything than Tullun was surprised to have a comrade die in front of him. Before the orks had been trying to keep up with Tullun and the other men’s mad dash for the next trench line, but they seemed to need to prove that they too could make such a shot. All across the line, Tullun could see orks stopping their bounding charges and getting out their guns to aim at the guardsmen pouring into, out of and over the trench. They were all running for the next trench, a bare hundred metres away. It was full of fellow men of the 401st and had several heavy weapon teams set up. If there was anywhere that the guard might hold the oncoming tide of blue painted orks, it was that trench. It was then that Tullun realised he had been standing still next to Telak’s body for at least five seconds, and that several orks were aiming at him. His body set off running before his mind had fully registered this.

He shot away from the orks and towards his comrades. The curling mist and grey mud made for a dull background, in which any colour would stand out. His own black and blue uniform was spattered with muck from the trench, making him much harder to see than the other guardsmen running with him. Not that it really mattered, as the orks were simply unloading their ammunition in their general direction and remaining optimistic about hitting something. Stupid xenos brutes.

>Cont.
>>
>>27185554
The worst part was that it was working. When there were hundreds of orks, each with a larger gun than the last, there were almost too many bullets to miss. Tullun heards shrieks of pain and the bark of bolters from behind him, but didn’t feel anything blowing his own body apart. It was after a particularly agonised shriek rang through his ears that he saw the trench line through the mist. It was bristling with rifles, launchers, stubbers and heavy guns. His chest seemed to unclench in relief, and his run slowed to a jog. Now he must be safe.

The 401st regiment of the Nixon Rifles had been told to wipe this asteroid clean of xenos filth, and that would be what they did. Tullun, his squad and a large group had been sent out into the mists, with instruction to locate any enemy troops and note their position. They had only been walking for a few minutes when they ran into the ork war party. The ork warparty had been painting themselves blue and loading their weapons. They had been uncharacteristically quiet and calm, leading the guardsmen to believe that they hadn’t been seen. Then one of the larger orks had simply turned around and opened fire. The rest of the greenskins had followed suit, tearing several squads apart right away. The rest had fled for their lives.

>Cont.
>>
>>27185568
Tullun finally reached the trench line and dropped down into the crowded ditch. Welcoming hands pulled him to his feet and clapped him on the back. Words of congratulation on being the first back reached his ears and his back was slapped repeatedly. One slap hit his tailbone, reminding him of the dull ache. In the back of his mind, his rage still smouldered. It had been there since they had set foot on this asteroid, and had been an almost constant feeling over the last few years before that. The asteroid belt known as ‘The Green Traverse’ was a nightmare of ork strongholds, slowly revolving round and round. Every time a hole was punched in the belt, the asteroid simply floated on and a new one full of battle hungry xenos took its place. Every battle Tullun had fought with his regiment had seemed more pointless than the last, as they captured asteroid after asteroid, before abandoning them once again. It was vital that they keep the supply lines clear, but to lose friends and soldiers over a rock that was given back to the enemy weeks later made Tullun furious. He wanted to do something about it, to find some way of permanently securing a passage, but he was only a lowly trooper. What could one man do?

>Cont.
>>
>>27185575
Tullun was shaken from his reverie by a sharp cry of “Back to you posts!” which issued from some way down the trench. The guardsmen hurried back to the side of the trench and resumed watching the mist for signs of the orks. They could all here the gun shots and death screams, but no ork had yet been sighted. Tullun’s own attention was now fixed on the figure that had ordered the men back. It was a towering man in a black coat, a red hat adorning his head. He was Commissar Denxer, the man responsible for punishing those guilty of cowardice or heresy. The figure stalked towards Tullun, and now he felt the threat of death more clearly than ever before. The Commissar’s eyes narrowed and he roared;

“Trooper! Why did you abandon your position and your squad?”

“Sir? We found the orks, but were massively outnumbered. The whole squad ran sir, so I followed!”

“So you saw others failing the Emperor, blessed be his name, and thought that it would be acceptable to do so yourself? And how, may I ask, did you manage to get back first if you merely followed the other’s examples?”

I..uh...sir, I found the orks and reported back. Those were my orders.”

“You filthy coward. You were told to hold them at the first trench, not run back here covered in mud and shit so that you could snivel excuses at me. You have failed trooper.”

The Commissar’s face was set in a disgusted sneer, as his hand reached for the heavy bolt pistol at his waist. Tullun felt the weight of the moment dragging at him, but still couldn’t believe it was happening. He had out run the orks and dodged the bullets only to be shot down in the mud by one of his superiors? No, the Emperor would never allow such a thing to happen. And besides, he needed to sort out this damn asteroid first. It was his duty. Those were the last things to pass through his mind, prior to the bolt shell.

Its basically a GitS/ Galactica/ BT Periphery worlds, with a bit of a gimmick that allows them to be a local power and might be able to fight of a major incursion with proper preparation.

The more interesting view would be the high focus on Education, Infrastructure and Diplomacy with anyone willing to talk and act in good faith. holoband like networks that can span perhaps interstellar range with numerous expensive carefully planned relays. Large amounts of data to the individual, etc.

As for power, well the only thing they would have going for them would be better computers and data management and the ability to have a tactical or local FTL 747/ Chinook, and having to still rely heavily on interception grids, flak screens, primitive shields that work mostly against lasers and plasma for defense, stealth, EW, careful armoring and engineering and large number of strike craft, bombs, missiles and guns to put the hurt. Most likely having to pick and choose which to focus on or compromise for their choices in offense and defense. Not even using cruiser sized things and the like.

>Trying to fluff the Empire from a distance
Artisans Oria and Enriti flesh voiced in hushed tones to each other as they checked and double checked the primary maintenance access ways. "It can't be as bad as he says can it Oria?" Enriti said as she looked at the plethora of pressure gauges in front of her. "Im sure some of the outer provinces were spared the worst of it sister." Said Oria as she tightened a leaking valve. "But what about Zeipher? Do you think Zedoms shields held?" Oria paused scrapping a rust patch off a ceiling slab. "Home will be fine, now get to work." Suitably chastened, Entriti corrected a minor fuel spike.
>>
>>27185281
The main problem with this is it is very vague and generic. Maybe add something unique about this order.
>>
>>27185967
Not artisans. Enginseers.
>>
>>27185825
I like it. Scenes blur very well, makes it feel properly chaotic, urgent, and battle-like. I especially like the transition to the clean, sterile sort of style when he's about to execute. It contrasts the hectic pace of battle to the mechanical aspects of command quite nicely.
>>
>>27186123
*about to be executed.
>>
>>27185998
Of course it's vague and generic - it's a snowflake-avoiding Sororitas order. There's more to come but the unique stuff will be limited to named characters and some order relics.
>>
>>27186152
Speaking of which, here's a relic for you - easily convertable on a model by using the one from a Cadian or Catachan command squad box:

The Hand of Saint Eustice: a powerfist of providencial lineage, once wielded by the revered Saint Eustice in the Cantoran Crusade and the weapon that felled the Chaos Champion that held the subsector in thrall. Venerated as a holy relic and embelished with text and sanctified reinforcement, the Hand of Saint Eustice remains a powerful weapon against the Great Enemy eight centuries after it first saw battle.

"In-Game Rules" - as normal powerfist but can re-roll failed wounds to deamons... or suchlike.

So what are the colours of the Order of the Violet Flame (a name ripe for bastardization by guardsmen into "Violent Flame")?
Purple with white trim? White with purple trim?
>>
>>27185967
Lexmechanic Ulfur slowly surveyed the primary data stack, looking for corruption. No sounds were heard in this deepest of chambers except for the slow shuffle of his feet. I guess this is the last uncorrupted stack in the whole sector he thought. Another slow shuffle. Column 5. He quickly listed all the Alpha Grade stacks in the sector. The Capitals Ganglia Centris. Iron Slabs Monitor. Far off Atlis Five's Explis. And Holy Anticux just corewards from here on Nemus Pox. He then went through the secondary and tertiary repositorys. All borken, shattered, or filled with madness. Shuffle. Column six. "It's just you now old friend." He said to the old stack.

Here's another Relic.
The Lancia de la Santa
The Lancia de la Santa (Lane of the Saints) is a weapon that has been wielded my more saints and canoness' than any other weapon. The previous wielder, after they die, their mental strength becomes one with the lance. This means the more wielders die, the more powerful it becomes. One of the lances more famous victories was the slaying of an Eldar Wraithknight, the lance slamming into the Wraithknights mid-driff, then engulfing it in bright purple flames.

Don't forget guys, while the Sector is largely lifeless, it HAS been part of the Imperium, which means it has been Great Crusade'd right in the face back in the day. So try to mostly come up with independent factions that could have formed in a thousand years' time while everything was isolated. DAoT societies ain't make sense.
>>
>>27185622
I'mma stop you there. The only reason to allow something like this is if something really, really bad is going on behind the scenes - This is 40k, not GitS/Galact/BT. Education, infrastructure, and diplomacy gets entire systems killed and puts the galaxy at risk.

Their leaders are all a cyborg hive-mind, they did some GitS, put their brains in jars, and now there's a cyber-tyranny pulling the strings behind the scenes. Good thing there aren't demons that work mostly through technology that prey on this exact sort of situation.

o wait.
>>
>>27187143
Indeed. A good example of this is in the Black Crusade book. Q'Sal is a planet of clean high-tech shit and glassy towers and cool stuff.

Except all the tech has daemons bound to it. All of it. And the planet is full of minor Warp rifts here and there cause the sorceror-hereteks just can't keep themselves from waging war with daemonic warmachines against eachother.
>>
>>27185360
No, Geller Fields surrounding a whole system or planet is OP as hell, and virtually impossible by 40k standards. You'd have to resort to Dark Age tech, and that's a big nono for this sector.

Dark Age *relics* might exist, but no faction should have access to lots of them, or particularly huge single examples.

>>27185622
Education, Infrastructure, and DIplomacy? Sounds very Reasonable Marines to me, bro, and very not fitting with the 40k flavor.

Diplomacy is PUNISHED in 40k. Individual freedom is PUNISHED in 40k. And what most people forget is it's not just because people are fallible, and everything could be fixed if someone would just do better, it's a fundamental tenet of the setting, like a law of physics.

Defy it too much, and the trolls will come even from OTHER BOARDS to shit on you.
>>
>>27187334

Necrons have done it, or at least can try. At Medusa V, their campaign goal was to set up a whole bunch of obelisks that do just that, to seal off the planet from the impending warp storm fuckery. They failed, but hey, it's possible.
>>
>>27186908
This. Planets with some lingering, broken remnants of DAoT stuff are ok.

Hell, we could even have a planet where dozens of societies rose and fell trying to understand their ancestral relics, before the Imperium became the most recent owners. And they too fell, and now must try to reclaim the relics, even as fucked up as they are by now.

There COULD be a few places where the Imperium never really laid claim, 40k always leaves room for that kind of loophole. However, in those crevices, we are NOT going to insert utopian, Culture-style transcendent AI-run societies with just so very, very much to teach the Imperium.

We're also not going to fluff worlds of lost Loyalist Space Marine chapters, for example. (unless when they were cut off, they eventually died or fell to Chaos. That would make sense and be canonical.)
>>
>>27187200
>>27187143
Yyyyyeeppp. Glad there's some people that get the kind of boundaries we have to set ourselves here.

>>27185622
HOWEVER, we do appreciate you trying to share with us and be part of the project. Criticism doesn't mean you're a dumbass, it means you need to rework your idea and make it fit the setting *you* are trying to be a *part* of. You're not allowed to *overwrite* the setting's fluff and flavor, that's the difference.
>>
>>27186610
The Crusade will find them. They might send out a distress signal, but as far as they know, they're surrounded by demons and they have damaged resources, so they'd be much more likely to stay as passive as possible. When they see the Crusade as it approaches, they'd make contact.

They would also be HEAVILY screened for contamination, as anyone spending 1000 years at the mercy of the warp is a definite security risk at the very least, innocent or not.
>>
>>27184554
The name Osterii is similar to Oestalan. Having a derivative name of the sector itself implies a special place these xenos occupy, and that's not good.

Change the name, but other than that this is perfectly acceptable, especially since they don't have space travel, based on what I'm reading.

Holoband goggles and vid paper.

>>27187200
>>27187143
Well I was thinking high usage of memetics to counter the desire for dealing with warp entities, essentially brainwashing anyone immersed in the media against accepting to something like that, and removal of the psyker element if they cant control it. Through what means that is variable, results counting for the most part.

One needs psyker to practice sorcery or to have demons manifest for a long time.

Although something like Psi Corps with a Rei Ayamani like mass production with various approved batches, (i am thinking different strains akin to SM chapters )at least for the mind ghestalt if not for body and soul might be something to consider.

If one cracks the all crack soon after, and mass demon incursion, creating the need for a massive purge, immediate action and massive memetics campaign tailored for that incident.
>>
>>27187497
A low-tech society focused on keeping what they have running, sure. That's good.

A society with potential mass casualties from the Warp or wandering xenos or whatever, cut off from the Imperium? They might very well teach everyone they could how to work every machine they could, to safeguard against abrupt population loss depriving them of the skilled technicians they need.

Just keep the power level low. They don't have super sue tech.
>>
>>27187493

So an idea for a Xenos race.

Yrashn VI
Yrashn VI is a large, warm, wet and swampy planet. The atmosphere has an abundance of oxygen and H2O. This has resulted in reptiles being in feasible for survival. Amphibians and giant insect rule. The Arohii are the pinnacle of Amphibious evolution.

Better?
>>
>>27187529
"Rei Ayanami" for one. Two, keep the pop culture references out of this sector, animefag. Three, Psi corps are the EXACT thing the Imperium cannot allow, doubly so if they all depend on a keystone or a perfect unity to not fall to demons. That's too much power to concentrate in one area. It's too damn risky. You yourself admit that they'd all crack and demons would kill everything.
>>
>>27187552
Yeah, all you needed to do was change the name. This is fine.
>>
>>27187569
A Psi Crops kinda thing could work... If it was either secretly kept in one piece by daemonic pacts and shit, or it was rather limited in its scope, and carefully balanced. But its existence would mean that the Imperium must purge the thing once it arrives anyways.

Or... To be a bit more grimdark, the planet could be just a few minutes after midnight on the doomsday clock. The Psi Corps worked for the better part of the millennium of darkness. Then just as the Warp storm was finally coming to an end, in a twist of terrible irony, someone...

...cracked. The planet is now in ruins, only populated by twisted creatures that once were its human inhabitants, as well as Enslaver zombie hordes and daemonic incursions.
>>
I'd like to propose a small feral world.

We'll call it Wintergarden.

Once upon a time it was a mostly-aquatic eldar maiden world. Then the Imperium found and declared it a paradise world. They set up shop on the lush tropical islands and began colonizing.

At some point a giant orc-infested space hulk popped out of the warp and crashed into the planet, hitting at such an angle as to greatly slow the planet's rotation.

Now whichever half of the world is facing the sun is hot enough to boil the oceans. Whichever half is not is cold enough to freeze them solid. As the seasons change the landscape of the planet changes forever. What little land there was is lost forever. There can be no permanent structures, all life must move with the seasons or be boiled alive. What natural life survived became hostile, strong, and cunning.

But humanity is a tough nut to crack. They've adapted and learned to survive as a feral migratory society, hunting what they can from the ice and ocean, locked in eternal battle with the not only the many beasts of the oceans and ice, but the foul Orks and other dangers who survived and thrived after the crashed space hulk.

And of course, now that the Warp Storm is gone, the Eldar are going to be coming back to check up on their Maiden world, and they are not going to be happy with what they see.

Basically roaming inuit-vikings fighting giant snow-beasts and tribes of ice-orks. With some Eldar meddling thrown in for good mix.
>>
>>27187334
I was thinking more in Diplomacy as in trade with Xenos and willing to coexist with the imperium in a mutually agreed treaty or such.

There is little point in trying diplomacy with Tyranids, Chaos, DElfdar or Oldcrons.

Infrastructure is a must, for a few planets to be able to survive and with education everyone is replaceable.
I never said anything about Individual Freedom.

Everyone is eminently replacable, and when chaos shenanigans hit the fan the BigBrother(tm) tripwire in your brain specially tailored for you only sends out the beep and Men in Black or worse, Black Helicopters come in a few minutes or hours.

The diplomacy part would be something like stall and wait for a better deal, akin to say, being integrated only dejure in the imperium as a RT domain or a local institution, basically wanting similar relationship like the AdMech, a alliance of sorts. If the Tau met them then probably something similar, and not integrating beyond advisers and such. Essentially being open to join Imperium or Tau policy if it were under EU like terms.

It would in essence mean that Inquisitors would have de jure no power inside such a Territory and would have to get a acolyte within the law enforcement of said area and said acolyte having to work within said laws, if able to bend them a bit.

Trying to get the in client state, or placing them under administratum and imperial nobles would mean armed conflict.
>>
Also, remember guys, Warp storms are known to produce strange phenomena in the real world. Like that ice planet in Dawn of War 2 which froze over to due the influence of a Warp storm that cut it off from the surrounding sector.
>>
>>27187680
Yeah. Showcasing the nigh-inevitable consequences of tampering with the forces of Hell is perfectly fine, and very canonical. Would make a good story of when the Crusade finally caught them.

The Warp is very weak in this sector, but enough psykers, concentrated and used as fuel, and you might create a very small warp rift to fuel some posessions.

>>27187697
Seems ok to me.
>>
How about a cobbled together Mini-Legion of Renegade Astartes, along with some Eldar Corsairs, having captured and cleansed a Space Hulk, begin fighting but then are flung into the warp.

Only about half the ship gets some Gellar Fields on and the remaining Astartes and Eldar have to feverishly work together to keep the ship going.

Then they manage to plunge out of the Warp by sacrificing their Librarians and having the Librarians guide them.

Overall, about 187 Astartes and about a thousand Eldar survive.

Said Space Hulk is about 198Kilometers long on average, 78Kilometers tall and 112 kilometers wide.

Mostly including vessels no more than 15k old, the oldest being about 1.2Million year old STL vessel that had simply shit luck.

Little if any recoverable Pre-Imperium tech of use beyond trinkets. Mostly, the strange thing, Astartes and Eldar vessels.

Space Hulk name? Calypsonian Voyage.

Location? Deep Space.

Astartes make up is a mishmash of Known Renegades. Including 30 of the last confirmed Flaming Falcons.

Only functioning ship remaining on the Hulk is of Human Make, but of Corsair ownership.
>>
>>27187722
Trading with xenos is fine for rogue traders. It's fine, if illegal, for individuals. For a planet to officialy sanction the trade is heresy and treason of the highest order, and there is no acceptable excuse.

And I quote, >>27185622 "Large amounts of data to the individual". The Imperium keeps its citizens in the dark for good reason.

This world would have just been released from the warp at most a century ago. And the powerful races near it would have been mostly wiped out.

There's no one for them to really talk to or trade with anyway. Also, THIS IS THE TEMPESTUS SEGMENTUM. THERE ARE NO TAU HERE, ITS A LOOOONG WAY AWAY FROM THEIR TURF. Same thing with the canonical Nids.

Bold is not to make fun of you, or insult you, but people keep forgetting WHERE the sector is.
>>
>>27187769
Flaming Falcons? How gay is that.

Space Marines and Eldar? You're gonna have to work pretty damn hard to justify how Marines fell to Xenos. Chaos corrupts, but non Dark Eldar really don't.

If the rest of the anons decide this idea is ok, then the space hulk would probably have come from outside the sector, been swept into the Great Storm, and have been left in Oestalan somewhere when it abated.

But seriously, there's lots of red flags here. Being renegades is literally the only thing that even remotely keeps this from being mary sue and canon violating as fuck. It's gonna be a hard sell, i think.
>>
>>27187569
>>27187680
Well with various batches and different programing the idea would be than only some strains would fall while others would resist.

And with massive purges of the psyker element i doubt you would get anything beyond one or two tiers at best best beyond the human average on the imperial system.

Probably even a lower average psyker activity due to the millennial purge from the genetic pool giving them a tau like presence.

Couple that with kill switches and minders for the low powered psykers, and you have a workable system.

Of course if the imperium manages to come to a alliance like integration the Inquisitor will have to work overtime to keep them from blowing in their face, or risk loosing a entire subsector depending on imperial and pseudo renegade paranoia of each other and chaos.

Do keep in mind that one imperial non registered psyker can easily be far more powerfull than the average psicorps agent. A demon wating for the perfect moment needs only to use said nonbound psyker and then defeat the target and get the mind pattern to have the keys to a entire strain.

At which point they have to box them, and rewrite them all, if not kill them all if daemons start pouring in.

A good Black Crusade plot would be to identify as many strains, and then insert as many psykers as you can to pull it off. Essentially mimicking the Horus Heresy but with psykers instead of space marines.

>>27187782
I was just trying to make the point by bringing up the tau since they are the only other imperial power taking human worlds in. Of course this shows a bit more childishness than even the Tau in foreign affairs due to their vulnerability to be swallowed if not changed over time by a superior bureaucracy.

I just had an idea, or rather, the seed of a potential idea: A star system ruled by an Alpha-level psyker. Since there was no big =][= around to purge his/her ass, it could be possible.
>>
>>27187912
He'd have to work very hard to access the warp here, so he'd need to be alpha level. Since the warp is weak, that *could* be an excuse for why he didn't explode into demons at age 5.

He's an alpha anywhere else, and would be if he left or was taken, but in Oestalan, he's a beta level in terms of what power he can actually tap into.

Seem logical?

They were fighting their way to each other through shit-hordes of Genestealers, began skirmish here and there, but mostly kept slaughtering Genestealers.

After that, they tracked each other down and began fighting. Problem for the Astartes is that of nearly 5,000 of them, the largest number of the same chapter/heritage was 86. So poor cooperation.

Then the Hulk started to go back into the warp, and only a section managed to survive by getting a Gellar Field online. Once that happened, they didnt want to risk it with more fighting...

They didnt fall to xenos you dolt.

See, you need to at least try to explain what you're saying. Renegade Marines working with Eldar was your original post. That sounds like they fell under the Eldar's sway.

Marines trapped on a hulk, that just happens to also have some Eldar on it who are trapped with them, is much less canon-rapey. Might oughta lead with that, instead of following up with it like we're supposed to READ YOUR MIND. See how that works?

And that's why a star system under one's thumb could be a source of endless hilarity

Its literally two sides jumping the same Space Hulk, fighting through and slaughtering Genestealers, then murdering each other, then the ship returns to the warp and only some of them can get a gellar field on ontime. Some were caught killing each other, some of it was marine vs marine, and only a small contingent of either survived.

Then supplies ran low, they order there Librarians to attempt a warl exit. It works...right into the middle of nothing. And only one ship is known to still be Space Capable.

I said nothing about an alliance. Beyond surviving the warp.

>News about the Space Hulk travels
>A large Astartes force considting of Renegades and Undivided(Night Lord Mercs, A small Warband of Fallen and Iron Warriors) is cobbled together
>A large Corsair fleet decides to ge for it and salvage some ships
>Shit ensues, some skirmishes, then the Genestealers run out of bodies
>all out war, Marines by all rights should win against the relatively meager Eldar force, who avoided most contact
>poor communication, near to no chain of command, and Chaos being Chaos prevents this
>ship wants to go home
>shit gets real.

Took this idea and ran with it. VERY ROUGH, haven't edited:

Idris Envilion; Arch-Dictator of the Oestalan Unity (an ambitious name if ever there was one). A psyker of vast potential and equally vast self control, Idris Envilion awoke to his power at a very young age, alienating himself from the rest of society. Suppressing his power through a supreme act of will to drown out the voices in his head (chaos, naturally), Idris used his incomparable mind to study his world's history and discover his place in it. Along the way he used his power to gather followers; mind-thralls bent to his will until they were nothing but puppets.

After years of plumbing the depths of his homeworld's libraries and archives, Idris had learned the history of his world, the sector and the Imperium at large (such as could be found on one world). From this exhaustive study Idris reached an epiphany; he was surely a fragment, or echo, an 'archon' of the Emperor of Mankind's own power, shattered from the whole when the Emperor fought the Archenemy and was interred in the Golden Throne (this is of course all nonsense, but such is the madness of genius).

Idris has reformed his society through psychic might, reshaping his world into what he thinks is the ideal of the Imperium by sublimating the minds of its populace under his control. Now that the Oestalan Crusade has arrived, Arch-Dictator Idros Envilion seeks to gain control over its fleet and return to Holy Terra, all so that he may reunite with his sundered whole.

tl;dr = Alpha psyker thinks he's a fraction of the Emperor and wants to use the Crusade Fleet to get to Terra and fusion dance with the Big Golden Guy.

More Deathwatch-y goodness, but this is probably it for the night. I'll start digging into the important parts in a bit.

>Foyer and first rooms

Upon arriving at the Knife, the Deathwatch only has access to the first and second
floors of the castle. The first floor is dominated by a large entry-way, and provides
the grounds for connection to many other parts of the castle. Training grounds,
an emergency armory (Already since raided), the cafeteria and active barracks all fit
in this area. As such, it's been a relatively simple matter to begin re-stocking and
moving into the castle.

Most of the fortifications are ancient, but in basic running condition. Approximately
half of the weapons that can be reached need to be replaced, but the rest can be fixed
given time.

This section of the fortress seems dim, but is filled with the undying spirit of the
Marines both past and current. It is being used as the staging area for three forces -
The Deathwatch, the Inquisitor Thesselson, and the Black Templar forces.

There are two great doorways that block the way into the rest of the castle. On the second
floor lies a door marked the Door of Sanctums. On it's frame lies these words:

THIS DOOR IS BARRED TO THE ENEMIES OF THE EMPERIUM, BUT IT STANDS IN MEMORIES OF WARS FOUGHT
TO OUR ALLIES WHO FOUGHT AND DIED AGAINST ANCIENT MENACE, YOUR NAMES WE WELCOME

It's thought by the Techmarines that, through use of the datalock, it should be openable
with the the name of one of the lost civilizations in the sector. Forcing the door open
would be difficult and time-consuming, but not impossible.

>cont'd
>>
>>27188643

The second door appears to lead to the castle's underground, of which there is suspected
to be a very, very large area beneath. This door is less ornate, with a smaller
plate describing it as DEATHWATCH PERSONNEL ONLY. There is a lock on the door, with
a complicated, if low-tech, series of mechanisms. It is possible to pick through, but will
probably involve taking the door and most of the mechanisms apart. The Priests are,
however, still holding out for the key being somewhere on the premises.

I love this idea and I would want to help a bit. As Geritine I is supposed to have been colonized 10 years ago, it's probably not far from Medigeminus.

The regiment is probably made of the physically fittest guards out there, because yes they are old but they also have lived in the woods for 10 years. The weak are affected to the logistics jobs. It is also totally interesting to see that a lot of those old fucks are nearly as competent to fix tanks as the average enginseer after 10 years.

So overall, the regiment is made from the majority of the planet, because nearly nobody wants to stay here. It has also a high number of non-combatant personnel, are skilled in winter warfare and especially foraging and maintaining their equipment in winter conditions. They also all wear Owlbears fur capes, from the big predator they used to hunt in Geritine.
>>
>>27188651
>beyond the Gate of Sanctum

With the name of the ancient civilization, the gate opens without flourish. Within
lies the third through seventh floors of the Castle.

These floors contain the chambers of the Deathwatch leadership. Everyone from Inquisitors,
special guests, Captains, Apothecaries, Librarians - Anyone who would warrant a private
chamber. In addition, there are several rooms for tactical planning and strategic mapping,
along with a large library made up of both data-slates and scrolls dating back thousands of
years.

To say that this is a great find is an understatement. These rooms contain many personal
effects and documents that fill huge gaps in the history of the system, from crusades
against Xenos, to early notes on many of the old civilization.

However, this information is all mostly useless history about civilizations that had
already fallen thousands of years before the Warp Storm - It seems that the leadership in
the Knife had somewhat morbid interests. The libraries contain a vast amount of information,
but all of it is at least a thousand years out of date, and the adepts will be cogitating
over the libraries for decades before a they're fully searched. However, the old
maps are potentially useful for helping the Crusade's planning.

As for looting, the most useful things to any Deathwatch team is still in the hands
of the last marines to use it. They will need to be consecrated, re-interred, and passed back
and forth until it either ends up in the Deathwatch armory, or ends up sent back to the
chapters of the Space Marine who had used them last. There's still a significant amount of
gear that is to be re-distributed, and it should add to the list of weapons and relics
that the Deathwatch can requisition.
>Once again over the limit
>>
>>27188669

Many of the rooms are locked, but opening them is only a matter of time (and looting
the right bodies). However, at the end of the 7th floor is a massive gate, similar to the
Sanctum Gate. This one, however, is filled with images of various heroic figures, each
of them representing previous Lords of the Keep (What's the name of the leader of a
Deathwatch group? Chapter-master? Some equivalent?). Again, this door needs a code to
enter, and the answer is related to the imagery covering the wall. A shared event,
a shared weapon, or perhaps a related campaign all might be the related to the code,
and on one of the various worlds in the Oestalon sector lies the secret.

As a note, this door should only open near the end of a Deathwatch campaign, after
whatever System-wide threats have revealed themselves. If the PCs ever end up stuck,
have the Door's secrets start to reveal themselves. The next scene is best savored
when it is initially given to be a source of hope for the players.
>>
>>27188679
>The Spire

Beyond the 7th floor lies the Spire, the personal chambers of the Lord of the Keep.
From here, there is plenty of space, storage, and rooms dedicated to the maintenance and
workings of the entire Deathwatch company. Within these walls held one of the most powerful
beings in the sector, a veteran of countless campaigns and the being responsible for
theh deaths of countless threats to the entire system. The secrets and weaponry held
in this room could have brought planets to their knees, and made Xenos quake in their boots.

However, 1000 years have passed since then. And, most importantly, this scene marks the
death of the Chapter Master. Alone, in his bed, he lies with his eyes still closed from
when the Eldar Assassin passed her blade through him. The dessicated corpse lies nearly
mummified, with both of his hearts pierced in one mighty blow.

The rest of the room is in a similar state. Whether there was a mighty battle amongst his
brethren after the murder, or whether the assassin intentionally destroyed the rest of the
room, the state of the Master's room is one of catastrophic destruction. All of the secrets,
plans, everything that would have been valuable to a group of Marines trying to save the
system has been destroyed. It is a dead end, and perhaps more a symbol of despair than
sanctity.

However, there is one shining hope in this room. A single ledger, containing the names,
ranks, and original chapters of every member of the Deathwatch that were serving at the
beginning of the Warp Storm. While there is no hope for whatever the PCs were hoping
to find, at least now the Battle Brothers can be identified, and they know how many are
still missing.

And that's the Astarted / etc. living quarters.

Next thing is the stuff buried in the planetoid. The Underground.

I'm thinking a mix between the Xenos Containment and The Omega Vault sections from the keep in the actual Deathwatch book, mixed with a heaping helping of things being loose down there. There aren't a lot of Tyranids in this sector, so things like Genestealers aren't going to be around, but Orks, Demons, and lots of unexplained and novel beasts are going to be around down there.

Double that up with the 1000 years of warp shenanigans, and there's a good chance that all the maps of the place are wrong. I'm thinking that fairly early on it should be clear that the undersections make even less sense than normal for a secretive facility, probably because the hallways and important rooms were re-arranged in the intervening years.

All sorts of shenanigans, in other words.

Nice. I like the idea of the old Watch-Captain's quarters are ransacked other than his bed where he lies as he died in peaceful sleep.

I wish I was better in english, I could try some writefaggotry.

Anyway as another anon has noted, the regiment is heavily equipped, including a lot of tanks and even more spare parts, which is lucky because those old folks prefer the "comfort" of a chimera to simply walking. But, as a lot of them were hunting in the Geritine taiga, those are skilled ambushers and snipers, and probably the most battle-hardened IG troops in the crusade. It also helps they prefer dying for the Imperium (or anything else) than living in their frozen hellhole.

Their heavy weapon teams are often mounted on their gunner's jury-rigged scooter or wheelchair. If not, as you don't expect them to carry them by hand, they at least got wheels.

tl;dr
>standard infantry in transports
>snipers
>vets
>tanks
>very few hand-to-hand
>iron resolve
>no cadets
>no stormtroopers
>no ogryns
>heavy weapons on wheelchairs

THREAD ARCHIVED: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/27181870/

Please vote up, we got even more done today than the previous thread! I'm really pleased with you guys, and I'll definitely try and upload most/all of the stuff you all have written to the wiki.

Some of these are real bulky though, so if any of it can be condensed to make sure I don't upload anything wrong, like that one guy lost his shit about earlier, please do so for my sake. Also, if anyone has any details that they want to be sure get included, or clarifications that need to be made, PLEASE DO SO.

Thanks, and remember to vote up the thread, because there's at least one troll that's following the archives downvoting for the hell of it. :)

Hey, best way to get better at writing (in any language)? Do more writing!
Keep posting and all the good ideas will carry on, even if some other kind anon has to edit them.

So yeah, keep posting and your writfaggery will only improve.

An entire company of old, grizzled veterans needs to be counter-balanced by a company of young, upstart youngsters who are only too willing to get into trouble with fancy new weapons, mutants, hand-to-hand tactics, etc. I think in the Wiki they mention
>Krieger Tremaine Bartonometh Murrey Sanguinistix the Fifth

Wherever he comes from, that sounds like a perfect counter-weight to this company. Gives them something to grumble about as they move up as the second line, hidden in the woods and sniping commanders three miles away so the youngsters can rush the front lines.

I like it. Any particular "type" you want to use for the general troopers? Maybe aged troopers in Russian-style uniforms, WW1/2/Cold War uniforms maybe? That's the stereotype anyways, maybe they can be like Alaskan frontiersmen instead. That's be pretty sweet.
>>
>>27189461
Also, I could use titles for these bits of fluff to provide a section header for the bigger chunks of writing, if you guys would provide it. It'd make it easier to separate and organize them.
>>
>>27189597
Deathwatch guy - I saved the stuff I typed as "Brutus' Knife 1" and "Brutus' Knife Interior." After the name of the Space Castle itself.

On a note, what *do* they call the Master of the Deathwatch? The Chapter-Master equivalent? It occurs to me I don't really know much about how they rank their captains.
>>
>>27189595
I didn't have any specific type of uniform in mind when I was writefagging. Maybe fur trappers ala mid-1800s, with the owlbear capes on the back.
>>
>>27189652
Watch-Captain. I don't know if there is a head of the Deathwatch, they're pretty dispersed.
>>
>>27189597
For my old man story, how about "To Die Well"?
>>
>>27189682
Now that's a style. I like it. It speaks to their character.

Somewhere, it should be noted that these guys have fairly irregular uniforms, but they involve deerskin and raccoon hats. Maybe some giant space beaver hide. Awesome.
>>
>>27189719
It's fine with me, if that's what you'd like.
>>
>>27182662

Warp Storms don't affect real space, the fact that the Craftworld isn't Warp capable and crawls along at sublight would actually work in its favour as they would be able to come and go as they wish.
>>
>>27189885
I'm pretty sure they do have realspace effects, but more importantly, the post I made was referencing that one mechanicus outpost someone else came up with, not your Eldar craftworld.
>>
>>27189595
My take on the uniforms, if we want to get something somewhat "realistic", is that besides the standard guard flak armor they did have nothing in common, but as their uniforms weren't tough enough to resist the Geritine weather, they are now mostly wearing what was available there, aka a warmer uniform made from old tank snow camo, trapper hats (sometimes replaced by a simili-wool (hand)knitted bonnet, or a flat cap) and Owlbear capes. Overall, they look like old countryside folks with a bit on frontiersmen in them (especially the capes and trapper hats). Or, if you prefer, old frontiersmen who tried to keep some soldier customs.

>An entire company of old, grizzled veterans needs to be counter-balanced by a company of young, upstart youngsters who are only too willing to get into trouble with fancy new weapons, mutants, hand-to-hand tactics, etc.
So something like
"Well, Colonel Goldman, even if we consider your tithes paid... Well, you don't really fit in the general strategy of the crusade."
"Even in wheelchair my men and I still serve, General"
"What I mean is, you need fresh blood, you can't simply have a whole regiment sitting in their chimera or camping in the woods, sometimes you need to charge"
"Well, except maybe Martha McMahin, I doubt anyone of us can be a match for a grot, General, and you wouldn't want to send that poor old woman alone"
"That's what I'm saying, colonel. I'll put the remnants of the 54th Nixon Shock troopers under your command. They are, for the most part..."
"...Whiteshields ?..."
"Young people full of potential. I'm sure your men and women will feel the need to emulate the courage and the ardour of the newcomers. You can go.''

"So, was this meeting with the general fruitful ?"
"Well, I don't know. We may have more boys, but we may not have more men"
"I don't really understand. Please contact Mars for a suitable upgrade."
>>
>>27189760
>>27189682
Fur trappers is way better than what I said here >>27190176, but we should try to keep it a bit military. At least, if they have deerskin or space beaver hide uniforms, at least they have to be, well, uniforms.

Geritine Last and Only ?
>>
>>27190318
No dude, don't rip off other canon stuff. You can come up with your own ideas, surely.

'twas a pun, as they aren't probably the last regiment from Gerintine, simply the most doomed.

The Old Men and the Space, maybe.
