Predator Quest: Episode 55

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue. Your investigations have ultimately led you to Earth - where you will strike out at Weyland-Yutani's headquarters.

You watch as the technicians continue prodding the beast inside the crate, shocking it into submission. The creature at last seems to weaken, and become sedated.

Two synthetic guards approach, and take position beside the crate. They shoulder their rifles and point it towards the hatches.

The technicians depress a few buttons, and the hatches hiss open, revealing the contents inside. It's a large warrior drone - of the strain you've encountered on Fey'lenn. A variety of devices and gadgets have been mounted to its body, and both its forearms have been replaced by some sort of cybernetic implant made of an unknown metallic alloy.

The technicians quickly drag over a large metal rack, and begin to strap the creature onto it with thick metal straps. Once done, they begin wheeling the rack towards a far door.

Do you:

A. Follow them quietly through the next door.
B. Let them go and stay where you are.
C. Ambush the procession and free the beast.

You stay where you are, and watch as they wheel the sedated beast into the next room. You hear yet another screech, emanating from a room further down.

You hear an incoming message from Steel-Arrow. "Three-Claw, increased synthetics activity. They've brought down a few more patrols from topside. I don't think we can stay hidden here for long. What's our response if we are discovered?"

You respond:

A. "Take what data you have and regroup with me."

You turn your attention back to the lab. You hear more footsteps approaching the area. You turn to see another patrol of three synthetic guards and a camera drone heading your way. Security is getting heavier by the minute.

Do you:

A. Head deeper into the bio-labs, towards the intermittent screeching noise.
B. Leave the bio-labs and head back towards the facility hub.

You quickly signal your team to follow you - and head deeper into the bio-labs. You come to a large, sealed chamber with thick, glass walls.

You raise your head and peer inside. You notice several hard-meat drones strapped to various racks, accompanied by a host of scientists and synthetic guards. A single, personal cloaking unit of Yautja design is strapped to a large test bench.

A scientist jabs one of the warriors with a metal prod. Its screeches, and thrashes violently. A human projector hooked up to the cloaking unit begins to glow. Suddenly, the beast begins to phase out of sight, but only for a moment. Its skin begins to burn under the intense radiation. It thrashes for a while, and is still.

The scientist gestures one of the synthetics to wheel another rack towards him. You order your team to stack up by the door.

Do you:

A. Attempt to assault the room with a breaching charge and disruption grenades. (DC: Medium-Hard)

>>B. Attempt to fire needlers at the racks in an attempt to free the hard-meat (Critical Failure)

You level your targeting beam at one of the racks holding an exceptionally large warrior drone. You direct the beam towards the metallic box holding the straps together, and fire. A flurry of needles penetrate through the glass, towards your target.

The beast on the rack thrashes suddenly, just as you fire, and jitters the metallic rack. Your needles miss the straps and slam into the beast itself. The beast roars in pain.

Three synthetic guards quickly turn towards you. A fourth takes a canister from his harness and throws it hard against the glass, emitting some sort of gas.

Your personal cloak fizzes upon contact with the gas, and you suddenly find yourself the target of several rifles.

You react quickly, and dive towards the ground as bullets crackle and fly over your head. You take a disruption grenade from your belt and toss it over your shoulder.

It donates with a muted thump. The synthetics are temporarily blinded.

Do you:

A. Assault them now, and take them down. (DC: Hard)
B. Use the temporary confusion to make your escape, back towards the hub. (DC: Medium-Easy)

You once again take aim at the rack's strapping mechanism, and open fire. This time, your aim is true. The strapping mechanism fragments instantly, and the straps snap loose. The beast struggles free, roars triumphantly, and whips its tail at its fellow's rack, slicing it in half.

The pair then quickly bounds forward to free their comrades. Soon, there are no less than seven drones running loose within the chamber.

The synthetics regain their senses, and begin to fire on the loose beasts. One is instantly torn apart by claws and teeth, but the others hold their ground.

Taking advantage of the chaos, you and your team quickly bounds over to the personal cloaking unit, and smash it to pieces. You turn around just in time to see a drone pounce towards you, but Sharp-Strike slices it in two with his combi-stick.

>>C. Quickly make your escape.

As the synthetics and the drones struggle with each other, you quickly rally your team towards the door.

You escape the effects of the anti-cloaking gas and re-engage your cloak. An alarm begins to sound throughout the facility. You notice, as you rush back towards the hub, that several escaped drones are making a run towards the containment area, where more of their comrades are held.

"Three-Claw," you hear Steel-Arrow's voice, amidst the panicked chatter of a smart-gun. "We've been discovered. Under heavy fire."

You acknowledge.

Do you:

You quickly sprint towards the data archives, while doing your best to avoid attention. Another voice alerts you over the comms. "Three-Claw, Ashen-Blade here. I'm seeing the entire building go into lock down. I've got several APCs heading towards the building. The front lobby's sealed under a massive blast shield, along with most of the lower floors. You're running short on extraction options. You'll either have to find a way to lift the blast doors or get out via the upper floors."

You acknowledge. You continue sprinting, and find the data archives to be under siege by a squad of ten synthetics. One of them takes a plasma bolt to the head and drops, as Steel-Arrow and Seeking-Eye return fire.

Two more synthetics join the fight, and they have a heavy auto-cannon with them.

Do you:

You level both targeting beams against the stunned synthetics, and open fire. Your teammates, on queue, joins you in pouring fire into the enemy ranks.

Your needles and plasma bolts punch straight through the enemy guards without pause. Bolt after bolt slam into the exposed guards, blowing gaping holes in their chests and vaporizing cybernetic flesh. In less than a second, you've taken down over half of the enemy. Only six synthetics remain. Their leader calls out for a tactical retreat, and they begin to slink away in a fighting retreat.

You press hard against the retreating enemy, and continue to trade shots. You hear an alarm blast overhead. "Warning. Warning. Containment breach. Containment breach. Specimen cages compromised."

Hearing this, the synthetics begin to quick their pace.

You vault over your cover to give chase. One of the straggling guards turns his back on you, and you plant a burst of armor-piercing needles through his spine.

Suddenly, a door to your front right bursts open and a large warrior drone slams full tilt into the lead synthetic, bringing him to the ground.

You turn and see a dozen more Pandoran warrior drones crawling towards you with alarming speed.

Do you:

A. Turn around and regroup at the data archives, letting the drones tear the synthetics apart.

Seeing the inbound drones, you quickly turn around and head back towards the data archives.

You direct your teammates to hold formation at the entrance. "How much longer?" you ask Steel-Arrow.

"Finishing up now. Done. We can go."

He unplugs his wrist computer from the mess of probes and puts it back on his arm. Seeking-Eye takes his heavy disc and throws it across the room, slicing the data servers in half.

You hear the hissing of a flame-thrower up ahead, and more footsteps coming from the elevator banks.

Suddenly, you hear a secondary explosion somewhere to your right, and see the unmistakable red hue of a fire breaking out. Your way towards the elevator bank is blocked by the fire. The only alternative would take you through the test chambers.

Do you:

You decide to go around, rather than risk becoming engulfed by flames. You direct your team towards the testing chambers.

The facility is in chaos. You hear the chatter of fire fights throughout the entire level. You enter the test chambers to find the ground littered with violently torn apart synthetic parts.

The wall to your right suddenly caves in and the upper half of a synthetic guard flies through the breach, slamming into the opposite wall with a wet thump.

You hear a loud roar, and turn to see a Pandoran praetorian with a mess of wires and cybernetics wired to its head engaged in a one-sided battle against a squad of synthetics.

It whips its tale and decapitates another victim, before turning towards the third and last synthetic. It raises its claw, and smashes it down. Inches before making contact with its victim's head, however, it suddenly stops. It begins to jerk. You notice a large antenna sprouting from the synthetic's head. The beast begins to jerk and twitch, fighting an invisible battle against the controllers inside its head. Suddenly, it twists, and turns towards you. It hisses.

You target the praetorian and open fire. You and your team launch a lethal volley of plasma and needler fire at the lumbering beast.

Plasma bolts slam into its thick carapace from a different dozen angles. It begins to scream and hiss. A volley of plasma bolts strike the side of its face and slices through its crown. It dips its tentacle-covered head and charges towards you.

Your team quickly disperses. You hear a loud thump as the praetorian slams his head against the wall, breaking through it.

On the other side of the wall is a raging inferno. Flames lick at the lumbering beast, causing it to roar in pain and back towards you. Like all hard-meat, even the Pandoran strain is sensitive to fire. You also notice a large napalm tank strapped to the back of a nearby synthetic corpse, who wielded a flame thrower.

You extend your claws and dig into the synthetic corpse in front of you. You twist hard and fling the synthetic straight towards the praetorian.

Moments before it strikes the beast's face, Seeking-Eye takes a single shot with his plasma-caster, breaking the tank apart and igniting the napalm inside.

The thick, sticky, white-hot fuel splashes across the praetorian's face and burns through its carapace.

The beast roars in pain, and begins to claw at its own head, in an attempt to wipe away the sticky, burning mess.

You resume fire, and a slam a dozen more plasma bolts into its reeling body. At last, it stumbles under the pain, and collapses into a prone position.

Steel-Arrow and Sharp-Strike sprint forward and drive two combi-sticks into both of the beast's shoulders while Seeking-Eye slams his disc on to the base of the praetorian's tail, slicing it off.

You rush forward to join them, extend your combi-stick, and drive the point straight through its neck. Burning-Scythe takes his heavy plasma pistol and buries the barrel into the back of its head as you struggle to pin the thrashing beast to the ground, and opens fire. Once. Twice. Three times. The beast twitches with each shot, and at last, lays still.

You turn in time to see more synthetic guards entering the chambers.
