Don't know what Valkyria Chronicles is? Check it out here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valkyria_Chronicles or http://valkyria.wikia.com/wiki/Valkyria_Wiki

You are LUCAS WILLIAMS, a student in the Sturmfuhrer Academy and currently enrolled in its elite TIER ONE Program. You've already got your little squad together and ready, but you've run into a bit of a problem. This "teambuilding" exercise you're currently on is less "teambuilding" and more "oh god everybody is out to get you". More specifically, your teachers probably found it amusing to make everybody gang up on what was presumably the most powerful team. Yours.

Thankfully, you not only succeeded, but you soundly trounced the other teams thanks to a combination skill, guts and sheer dumb luck.

You also found out that your squad sniper, Morgan, is actually a girl posing as a boy, for reasons still unstated. However, you agreed to keep the whole thing a secret from the rest of the your squad.

You also found out in the middle of your training that you had a hidden dark side, a destructive bloodlust that triggers whenever you see someone you care about get hurt. Thankfully, you've been taking special training to suppress that urge, so it really shouldn't be a problem in the foreseeable future.

You've now graduated from Tier One, and now are an official part of the Demons of Randgriz. Not only does this meant that your school days are over, but also that you're now expected to fight when called on...

You sigh as you pack up the last of your belongings and take one last look at your dorm. It's been your home for the past five years, and now you're just going to be leaving it behind. Sure, you were merely moving to the barracks at the main Demons of Randgriz compound adjacent to the academy, but it still felt like you were leaving home.

"Bye..." You say to nobody or nothing in particular as you close the door. You wonder who will take residence in this room after you leave.

You load your gear into the waiting truck. As you look back, you see Morgan, Runaround, and Edwin coming out with their gear as well.

Now that you think about it, Lara and the other girls are probably moving out of their respective dorms as well.

>Head straight to the barracks. You really should make sure your stuff gets there safe.

You decide to go look for Lucina to see how she's adjusting to the change. You feel that she wouldn't think it's such a big deal, considering her dorm was always pretty bare. Her interior design philosophy was pretty similar to her usual mindset, which was keep bare essentials and nothing else.

Sure enough, you see Lucina walking out of the girls' dorms with only a single duffel. The girl was definitely efficient, if nothing else.

"Oh Lucas, you're done packing already?" Lucina blinks.

>What do you say?
>>
>>27095806
I guess the best way to make sure Lucas doesn't end up as a copy of Jager is to put him in situations worse than what Jager went through during the first quest. (i.e. WP weapons, fighting Valkyria, etc.)
>>
>>27095856
Greet her... and maybe talk about elaborate on what you thought of her yesterday after the shopping
>>
>>27095806

Yeah. So far Lucas seems more "MAI HONUR!!" and much less "In this guys face!!"
>>
>>27095936
Don't worry, I think he'll worry less about his honor when he has a job to do, and last thread taught all of us that just because it was a non-combat situation, Dice Rolls do affect things seriously even if nobody dies.
>>
>>27095856
"Any idea where we're going to be going after this? We're getting deployed, right?"

>>
>>27095856
Please don't tell anyone about me in that maid uniform.
>>
>>27095996
Of course, we need to make sure they don't know it's us that cleans the camp.
>>
>>27095963

Hard to say really. I kind of think he would do his job because his honor says he has too. Which could make him a fairly terrifying a foe to face. Morale? He doesn't have one and he won't stop coming and working until he wins. Course this is all just from how he acts so far.
>>
>>27095963
Right. Like we are now locked on Morgan and beginning to develop a taste for wearing dresses (a couple more critfailed social rolls should do it).
>>
>>27096111
I guess this is because there is mystery surrounding Morgan, while the rest of the back-stories are more straightforward.
>>
>>27096111
I don't think we're locked on any route, we still got the entire game to play. It's just that Morgan had the most interesting subplot so far.
>>
>>27096196

If she pulls the ruined for marriage card, Lucas will have no choice but to commit. lol
>>
>>27095996
Don't remind her about it. That secret goes with us to the grave.
>>
What we do know about Morgan:
1. She's a girl
2. Likes Tanks and Military Equipment
3. May originate from the Empire (?)
>>
>>27096236
4. May or may not be a Valkyria.
>>
>>27096236

4. Ought to try makeup to look cuter
5. Bad experiences with men in the past
6. Doesn't mind hand holding
>>
>>27096154
Hey, I was hoping for our blue haired, slightly awkward and brokenly strong childhood friend, but I think once you factor in the drunken kiss we've shown too much interest in Morgan to back out without taking a chance on her and watching it crash and burn. Also, we get to create an oddly effeminate fake personality while pursuing her to throw off any suspicion that we might be after a girl in disguise.
>>
>>27095856
"Hey, Lucina, I just wanted to say I'm kinda sorry about leaving you out to the wolves during the grad trip." You say apologetically. "I know you're not exactly comfortable doing all that 'girly' stuff."

"Well. I guess I sort of deserved it for letting the twins have their way with you." Lucina sighs. "But honestly, it... actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be..."

You then see Lucina look away for a second and her cheeks reddening just a tad.

>Ohoho, I wonder what the twins would think if they heard you say that...

Apparently, Valkyrian Powers only activate after near-death experiences. So until she gets close to death her powers won't activate (Unless she was close to death once before coming to Gallia)

Come on guys. We have to keep up appearance if we want to keep Morgan's gender under wraps.
>>
>>27096307
Sparky has an interesting background, but she tells us what happened. Morgan's background is only told in small excerpts and hints. Our collective minds pull out theories for those scraps of info and make our own backstory to compare to others.
>>
>>27096274
"Is there something you are embarrassed about?

I had one of the worst nights of my life. Found out I can't hold my liquor, and I humiliated myself and Morgan in front of the entire team. Not sure how I'm going to be able to stand in front of the team anytime soon.

>>
>>27096353
The interest in Morgan is about her past, about how her life went wrong. The interest in Sparky is what's she's doing right now, in the moment.
>>
So besides our LMG and pistol, should Lucas have a personal defense weapon like a compact shotgun or an SMG?
>>
>>27096449

Eh, I think Sparky has plenty of interesting stories to share.
>>
>>27096353
Plus, the ways we've been discovering those hints have often forced Lucas into very sensitive situations. They have been quite entertaining, and I think that they are often the driving force behind a lot of development, not just in Lucas and Morgan, but their relationships with the rest of the team as well. I can't see Simo looking at Lucas the same way after the incident.

"Hey Lucina, are you okay? Your face is getting kinda red." You say a bit worriedly.

"...huh? I'm fine!" Lucina stammers.

Oh no, you weren't falling for that again. You know that Lucina never liked admitting weakness, and it was not uncommon for her to hide illnesses or injuries. Whether it was because of pride or because she was just that secretive, you weren't sure, but you've made it your duty to knock some sense in her whenever she tried to pull that stunt.

You still remember the time she tried to go to PE with a broken arm, after all.

"Come on, Lucina, come here." You say, taking Lucina's forehead and pressing it against your own to check for fever.

You're about to follow her when you are suddenly stopped by Simo, who just glowers at you.

You seriously consider telling Simo the truth about your knowledge of Morgan's true gender. Lying to your superior officer isn't exactly something you like doing, but you made a promise to Morgan and you're going to keep it no matter what.

However, rather than outright lie, you try to deflect Simo's attention by reversing the line of questioning.

"Well, sir, I'm not going to tell until you tell me what your relationship with Morgan is. You two seem awfully close for students who supposedly never met." You retort.

Simo gives you a hard stare.

You decide to let the comment pass. Simo was already fairly pissed and you didn't want to complicate the situation further. Either way, you could try asking Morgan what exactly his problem was.

You make your way to the assigned briefing room, where most of the squad has already assembled. At the front of the class, a projector has been set up, with Bragg sleeping in one of the front seats. Simo comes in shortly after you do, and smacks Bragg in the back of the head to wake him up.

"Okay everybody, settle down." Simo coughs, clearing his throat. "As you should all know, you have all signed up to join the Demons of Randgriz full time. This means that you will be obligated to participate in missions. Remember, training is over. This is the real thing, and we aren't using paint rounds or anything like that."

Simo takes a long look at the assembled squad before continuing.

"Also, because we are not an official unit within the Demons of Randgriz, we will now no longer be designated Alpha Team. Instead, we will adopt a unit name to set us apart from the other SOF teams that operate within the Demons. Normally, the CO makes the name, but I'm going to be open to suggestions..."

We could still choose a name to coincide with the unit number. I'd say we should pick something related to our status as a black ops unit. Something more secretive and sinister. "Hm, Wraiths. I kinda like it." Simo nods. "As of now, our official unit designation is Wraith. Bragg, write that down."

"Got it."

"Anyways, now that we've gotten that piece of business out of the way," Simo continues, "We've got a mission scheduled."

Okay, now the room was abuzz with activity, as you and your squad mates start wondering what was going on.

"Don't worry, this is a relatively simple mission, as far as mission go." Simo activates the projector, showing a map of Gallia's northern coast. "For the past few months, we've been picking up increased amounts of piracy and attacks on shipping trying to enter our northern ports. We've pinpointed the island they're operating from and have reason to believe they're rogue elements of the Imperial Navy."

"Define 'rogue'." Falynn says, raising her hand to grab Simo's attention.

"They are not officially affiliated with the Empire." Simo responds. "However, they seem to have suspiciously easy access to Imperial weapons and supplies."

"Anyways, the Archduchess herself believes that these attacks need to come to an end. Because this island is technically located outside of Gallia's territorial waters, the job is being forwarded to us. As such, this is going to be a joint operation between the Demons' naval, air, and ground forces."

Simo activates the projector again, showing a new slide of an aerial photo of a small, rocky island.

"This is the enemy base, codenamed MOSES. It used to be an old Imperial Navy outpost before it was abandoned after EWII. Our intel suggests that the pirates aren't equipped with anything more than destroyer size ships, with maybe a squadron or two of obsolete fighters. Total number of soldiers is unknown , but can't be more than a hundred." Simo drones on. "The basic plan of attack is that Wraith team, along with teams Metal and Predator, will be airdropped onto the island six hours ahead of the scheduled attack. Primary objective is reconnaissance to mark priority targets for the Navy and Air Force. After that, we'll land a couple platoons of Marines to mop up. Any questions?"

"Rules of engagement?" Lucina asks.

"Recon only. We engage only as a last resort."

"What do we know about Metal and Predator?" Charlotte asks.

"Metal and Predator are our two most experienced teams, both personally led by Ramirez and Tarin respectively before they retired from active duty." Simo says. "Because you're still green, we're bringing in our best to watch your backs."

"How is insertion going to work?" Mary-Kate asks.

"Each team will be on a separate Skyranger, going in at night from three different directions. We'll be airdropped on the northern end of the mountain. The terrain there is too rough to maintain any permanent defensive positions so detection won't be much of an issue."

"And what about vehicles? Runaround asks.

"We will be issued a team vehicle shortly." Simo nods. "We'll be reporting to the Foundry to take care of that later."

"And what if things go tits up?" Sparky asks.

"If the mission is compromised, we're to link up with Metal and Predator and retreat to the northern end of the island until the primary force arrives. The terrain up there will favor small units like us."

With all questions seemingly answered, Simo turns off the projector.

"The mission will be scheduled to take place in two weeks, so you better prepare accordingly. Keep in shape, review your training, and check your gear. On that note, you're all to report t the Foundry to be issued your weapons and field kit. Dismissed."

With that, Simo and Bragg exit the room, no doubt to continue refining their plans while Wraith team begins to disperse.

You head off the Foundry, like Simo suggested. Like the barracks, the Foundry was kept separate from the rest of the academy. What little you know if was that it was Grandpa Qyburn's personal laboratory. However, over the years, as he got older, he started doing less and less research and began letting his apprentices start running things. The old coot was still alive, but largely retired from active R&D responsibilities.

The Foundry itself is a rather innocuous building, looking like any other simple office complex, though out in the back you can see the large smokestacks of material fabrication facilities so the scientists there could manufacture needed equipment on site.

Strangely enough, it seems that you're the first person to arrive, so you enter on your own. You enter the front door, where you're ID checked and stripped of most of your gear before you're allowed in. You're not even allowed to wander the complex without an armed escort. You guess that espionage is a very serious concern in a place like this.

You're finally led to a door labeled ARMORY. Your escort opens the door for you and motions for you to enter.

What you find is something you're not really expecting.

There, facedown on a work table, is a young girl with a hooded jacket. She... appears to be asleep.

"Umm... hello?" You say as you gently poke the girl's face.

"Hmmmwmwaaaaht?" The girl groans as she raises her head, still obviously drowsy. "Oh, you're from the new team. Here to pick up your gear?"

"Yeah." You nod. "The name's Lucas, Lucas Williams."

"Nemo, Assistant Researcher." The girl yawns. "Specializing in aircraft avionics and general weaponry."

"It's nice to meet you, Nemo." You nod. "Umm, aren't you a bit... young?"

"Geinus isn't limited by something as arbitrary as age." Nemo mutters as she stretches her arms out. "Most of the Demons' current weaponry and 70% of the Falcon are derived from my designs, and speaking of weapons..."

Nemo gets up from her chair and lazily leads you to the back of the room, where you see row upon row of weapons snuggled safely behind a chain link fence. The way Nemo moves, you're almost afraid she's just going to fall asleep on her feet and fall over. Nemo then pulls out a large keychain and starts filing through the keys.

"You got in right when we're doing some big changes." Nemo continues. "We're phasing out wood as a building material for firearms and transitioning into weapons made 100% out of steel or plastic components. Basically all of our current weaponry will enjoy a 20% weight saving over previous models."

Nemo then leads you to rack where you see three different kinds of heavy and light machine guns.

"These are the latest designs out of the Foundry." Nemo yawns again. "Tier One equipment for Tier One personnel. Take your pick."

Standard Gallian designation for automatic weapons.

>>27099494
You pick up the MAGS M60. Sure, it wasn't as light as the MAGS 9 or as powerful as the HMAGS, but a general use weapon tended to trump specialized ones, especially when you're operating in small, individual units.

"You know, I've actually been wondering, has anybody ever tried replicating the Ruhm?" You ask "

"Hm, it was bit tough just trying to track down that weapon. We lost track of it shortly after the end of EWII, in which I assume it was under some sort of private ownership or just plain forgotten. The fact that it was literally one of a kind didn't help either. Either way, we've only recently rediscovered it. So... maybe give me a few months and we'll see what I can come up with."

"Okay..." You stow the M60 back on the rack for now. "What's the rest of the squad getting armed with?"

"Well, Simo prefers to use the newer model GSRs outfitted with the new .338 caliber rounds. Bragg likes the HMAGS. The rest of your squad is probably going to armed with this..."

She then pulls out an almost alien looking, black gun.

"The TMAG 27 is designed to be the next generation general issue assault rifle for Gallian forces." Nemo drones on. "As I said before, it's built entirely out of steel and plastics. Not a single wood component. It also uses a smaller cartridge to save on weight."

"Huh... okay." You nod. "And vehicles?"

"We've actually got three that can be chosen from." Nemo leads you to another section of the armory. "Due to the nature of how our SOF teams operate, heavy armor is out of the question, so we've been developing alternatives to heavy armor that's light and portable enough to be airdropped along troops."

Say it with me folks: "Lapua". I love the sound of that word. It just rolls right off the tongue. Sadly I'm too poorfag to ever own something chambered for it.

>"The TMAG 27 is designed to be the next generation general issue assault rifle for Gallian forces." Nemo drones on. "As I said before, it's built entirely out of steel and plastics. Not a single wood component. It also uses a smaller cartridge to save on weight."

It's meant as an assault rifle, not a SAW.

Wasn't the big complaint about the 27 was that some idiot thought that a machine gun with only slightly more rounds than an AR a good idea?

>RHINO GENERAL PURPOSE APC: Based on a Federation design, the Rhino is cheap and easy to maintain. Otherwise, it is essentially just a metal box on treads. Unmodified, its armor isn't particularly thick and it is open topped. However, it's portable and very fast for its size, allowing it to reach areas most other vehicles would find difficult to navigate.

VIPER INFANTRY FIGHTING VEHICLE: Unsatisfied with the apparent lack of protection used in both Emmerian and Federation APC designs, Gallian engineers decided to go a different direction and designed the Viper to not only act as an APC, but give it substantial defensive and offensive capabilities as well. This eight wheeled vehicle is armed with a turret mounted 25mm autocannon as well as disposable lance launchers to deal with enemy armor. It's own armor is thick enough to repel most small arms and it can still carry a squad of troops. However, it's almost twice the size of the Rhino.

TYPE-41 LIGHT TANK: A deviation from the current Main Battle Tank design philosophy, the Type-41 is specifically designed to be airdropped, and sports the heaviest armor and most powerful weaponry in the form of a heavily upgraded 76mm high velocity cannon. However, naturally, it trades troop carrying capacity for firepower.
>>
>>27100027
and then said idiot approved it for use and took away the AR's m249 for that thing, and given its fussy gas system and its love to crank up its ROF when dirty, its the worst thing you could give to a automatic rifleman

"Well, the Viper looks pretty good..." You nod. You should probably suggest it to Runaround when you see him.

"Wait, how exactly are we supposed to drop these things from Skyrangers, anyways? Aren't they a bit large?"

there was nothing wrong with the rifle, but plenty wrong with the training, the ammo and the supplies/maintenence

"You know, whatever happened to Qyburn?" You ask. "I haven't seen him around in quite a while."

"Oh, Qyburn? Hmmmmm...." Nemo. "Last I heard he was going off to oversee some 'special project' that was in the works for quite some time. I haven't seen him for the past couple of years. It's must been us assistant researchers keeping the Foundry running in the meantime."

"I see." You nod. "Anyways, thanks for going through all the trouble designing this gear for us."

"Don't mention it. It's my job, after all." Nemo yawns. "I'm just... gonna take a quick nap. I'm sure you can find your own way out...."

And with that, Nemo slumps back down on the work table and starts snoring loudly. Odd girl. You wonder if her colleagues are weird like that as well.

----------------------------------------

And just like that, it seems like the last two weeks passed by like a flash of lightning. You find yourself sitting in the back of Barfbag's Skyranger, trying to ignore all the jarring turbulence knocking the aircraft around. Behind the craft is the specialized glider holding the squad's Viper.

"We'll be reaching the LZ in about fifteen minutes!" Barfbag yells from the cockpit. "Prepare to drop!"

Well, this was it. The big jump. Even though you and the other Wraiths have been spending the past two weeks prepping for this moment, you're still wondering if that was enough time.

"Falynn, are you all right? You seem pretty nervous."

"I'm f-fine." Falynn mumbles quietly. So quietly you can barely hear her over the roar of the Skyranger's engines. "Nothing to worry about here."

Fine? The poor girl was literally shaking in her boots. Compared to her sister, the difference may as well have been night and day.

Falynn gently raises her arm and you can feel her hand ruffling your hair.

"Look, Falynn." You say quietly to her. "We're going to be fine, and we're going to get through this alive. We got through Tier One together, right?"

"Yeah..." Falynn nods. "But I'm not strong like Bragg, or as stealthy as Lucina, or as smart as Edwin, or as fearless as Charlotte or..."

"And no Falynn, you're not. Edwin, Charlotte, Lucina, everyone also has things they can't do. Edwin doesn't know how to stop being a ass and Sparky doesn't know how NOT to use explosives.

Thing is Falynn, no one here is as good as machines as you. You ARE the best Engineer in our year and no one could match you. And even if you were second-rate, which you are most certainly not, you're second rate in a team of elites. Falynn, you're anything but second rate. A second rate soldier wouldn't be about to jump out of an airplane. A second rate soldier wouldn't be sneaking around an enemy base--hell, a second rate soldier probably wouldn't even have gotten this far.

A second rate soldier would be part of those Marines gonna be mopping the island up after we've scoped out all the pretty targets for them to shoot--and last time I checked, Falynn, we're not the ones stuck at the staging area waiting to get intel on what to shoot at once we move.

At that moment, the red light illuminating the cabin suddenly switches to green.

"OKAY! WE ARE NEARLY AT THE LZ!" Simo yells. "EVERYBODY STAND UP AND HOOK UP! COUNT IT OFF!"

Everybody checks their gear to make sure it's all there and begins shouting off to confirm it. Once Simo is satisfied he wrenches the cabin door open. He then looks back at Barfbag, who gives the thumbs up.

"OKAY GO GO GO!" Simo yells, pushing the Wraiths out one by one.

Soon enough it's your turn to step up to the door. It's so dark out, you can't even the see the ground below. All you can do is close your eyes, take a deep breath, and jump.
