Peter Parker Quest, Issue 14, part 2

You use the redial function on the phone to quickly call the number they called last. Two rings, then a familiar voice mail message-

Gwen’s phone.

You hang up and look around the phone- you don’t see anything obvious, just a small crevice by the side of the phone that’s easy to overlook. You shake your head and call Felix.

There’s a few rings before Felix picks up, he sounds tired. “Hello?”

“Hey, Felix, it’s Peter. How are you feeling?”

You voice is sympathetic and Felix’s voice comes across the line, softly. “I’m going to be fine now, Peter. Thanks for asking. Um…. Would you be ale to come over? I’m not good for studying, but I’d like to talk with someone and you and I are friends, we are, right? Well, I thought you might help me out.”

Felix’s voice is embarrassed and nervous.

>[ ]Sure, not a problem. I’ll be over in a little

“Yeah, no problem, Felix, I’ll be over in a little while.”

You exchange some final pleasantries with Felix, confirming your plans to head over to his house. It will be a little while until you should get there, around five, and its only about two forty-five. You have a good two hours at least.

What should you do in the meantime?

You remember the football player, and you know of another football player you crossed- Flash Thompson

Because I'll be DAMNED if I'm letting her wander off and get murdered not two days after we saved her ass. I still don't trust her to have survival instincts yet.

We can always go full creepy counter-stalker on Flash later.

But we don't outright accuse HIM of stalking Gwen. It might not even be him doing the stalking, but we straight up tell him that someone on his team is making Gwen's life a living hell, and that if he doesn't do something about it, we will.

Flash may be a jerk to us sometimes, but even he has standards, and if someone on his team is making someone that isn't Peter Parker's life a nightmare, shit's gonna go down.

I vote we confront Flash first, THEN make sure MJ gets home safe.

If she's smart, she'll wait for us before she wanders off. Of course, that's also assuming she's patient enough to wait while we have a man to man talk with our (second) worst enemy like >>27091226 is saying.

Hopefully the talk won't take too long, and we can get MJ home quickly enough so that Felix doesn't get worried/upset.

Question. Until what, last week? Flash has been bullying us our entire life. Why would he take any threat from us seriously?

Last thread, someone brought up the question of our current costume (the one from Last Stand, far left) and mobility. Our current costume gives us full range of motion, multiple disguise options, and plenty of extra space for carrying capacity and upgrades.

So, we get better at chemistry, develop high-tensile webbing like what was used in the MK1 SPider Armor. Instead of plates and gauntlets, we compress it down into thin inserts into the jacket and pants. Each one is hollow, filled with a mix of corn starch and water and sealed air-tight. Impact and bullet resistant on a low budget (relatively).

Then we work on electronics. Radio, cell phone, and police scanner. Air filter. MAybe a small rebreather (3-minutes tops). We build a collapsible helmet that can fold up from mask to I-Pad case. Make it look like the MK2 spider armor helm.

Then we crib an idea off of the Ricochet design and look into some non-lethal weapons. Web grenades, or just really strong bouncy-balls we can lob off of people's skulls. Some simple pockets woven into the arms can mean easy access to them. Probably wouldn't hurt to keep a water bottle and granola bar on hand too.
>>
>>27091308
Eh, I don't think it's a good idea to confront Flash at school.

Didn't we know him back when he was called Eugene?
>>
>>27091308
Hey, remember how she was smart enough not to try to find her way home from the arcade without us and accidentally end up in a bad neighborhood back alley where horrible things would have happened to her?

Yeah, I think we shouldn't trust her judgement until its started to be proven good.

We aren't threatening him. We're telling him that one of his teammates is messing with Gwen, and that if he's not going to do something about it, we will.

We aren't threatening him, but telling him that if he won't do something about one of his teammates stalking Gwen, we will.

As long as we keep calm, and again, not accuse HIM of stalking Gwen, we should avoid a pounding, because I'm sure even Flash has standards.

>>

Are you implying that Flash's standards do not include loyalty to his teammates? That he won't give them the benefit of the doubt and tip our hand (we don't have much of one at present)? Do you think he'll follow up on it and make sure they don't do something extreme?

...do you think he won't let Gwen know, as loudly as possible, that he's the one that put a stop to it? Which is fine, but could complicate things further.

I like The End Spidey costume, but I always felt it needed a little something extra. Adding webs to the design itself would ruin it in my opinion, but without any webs it doesn't QUITE feel Spider-Man-ish enough.

Maybe a web-patterned scarf? Nothing big, billowy and capelike; something about... waist-length, maybe shorter, like a Showa-era Kamen Rider's scarf?
>>
>>27091348
I always did wonder why web grenades weren't a standard part of Spidey's arsenal. Considering how much web fluid expands when it's exposed to air, we could use minimal supplies of it and still be able to web-up entire rooms at once. The only problem I can see, aside from accidentally detonating them in our pocket, is that we might suffocate people. How air-permeable is our webbing?
>>
>>27091474
Yeah, and it will be the most heterosexual thing ever.

>>
>>27091348
People have done tests, Oobleck isn't bullet resistant enough to provide that kind of protection. It won't slow most bullets. But it should provide significant bludgeoning protection, which if we do do the superhero thing is going to be the most likely form of damage we'll be taking. So all in all, good idea.

>[ ]Make sure Mary Jane gets home

You look in the direction the football player went. You want to confront Flash- its one thing to go after you, but to go after the people you care about is too far. But, you have a more pressing concern- you should make sure Mary Jane gets home safely.

You look around, using your spider sense as a beacon. The school is emptying out- barring any clubs or sports that are meeting. Eventually , though, you find her.

She’s sitting on a bench near the front doors of the school. She’s got a book that she seems to be periodically reading, but she’s looking around- when she spots you you see her put the book away.

The buses have already left. You gesture for her to follow you. “C’mon, let’s go home.”

She nods and follows- it takes a little longer than usual and by the time you see her off into her house to put your backpack away- it’s about three thirty. You could waste some time here, or you could go out and do something.

This sounds like a very good idea, and so long as the plates are small enough and in the right places it should not effect mobility at all, something which i really want to keep with Spiderman, as the it's his best defense, only second to pissing off his villains.

Plus the pricing of it, that shit might as well be free.

Only concern i have is fitting all the tech we want into the mask and have it be that small and cheap, along with the DCs will will need to pass for the production of the damn thing, as well as the armor in general.

>>
>>27091545
Let's do some research on Oscorp. See if they have a student intern program or run workshops for junior scientists or what every they call interested high schoolers these days. Also try to get some more information about any prominent researches on staff that have enough of a background in bioengineering to pick up our father's work. Or modify it.
>>
>>27091595

Capes and scarfs just aren't worth it. Too much can go wrong.
>>
>>27091619
We know SHIELD has some public face, the post Cosgrove made about our question on mutants quoted a SHIELD press conference. So they're not in complete secrecy. But I'd imagine Nick Fury's identity is probably a secret. Searching for information on him could get us noticed. "What the hell is this kid doing that he knows who Nick Fury is? Wait...his name is Parker?! Shit."

>>27091519
The oobleck is for impacts. Bats, fists, etc. The webbing is the bullet resistant parts. Stronger than kevlar and naturally sticks to itself so it can be layered in straight lines, rather than woven.

>>27091484
It's not air-permeable. That's why Spidey was always very careful with it. And why he threatened Kingpin with it during the One Last Day arc. If we keep the grenades and their burst radius small, we may be able to get it to work, but we'll need to keep some solvent on hand to dissolve them in an emergency.

I see, though Kevlar is multiple layers of the stuff, and I doubt even our webbing is enough to stop bullets with only one or so layers.

>Grenades
The first problem needing to be solved is how to prevent the casing from hitting people with any amount of force. Odds are we're going to be building something that is essentially a ton of webslinger assemblies drawing from a shared pool of adhesive. If we're really concerned with potentially killing people, we'd be better off designing it as a disk we skip off the floor, the rotation and the webbing coming out of one plane will essentially turn it into a super bolo.
>>
>>27091819
Could we potentially create a grenade that has the webbing contained on soft packaging wrapped around a stick? So that when it detonates, the isn't any shrapnel and only webbing flying everywhere?
>>
>>27091734
Osborn can use the same method to track us. No.
>>
>>27091812
If its made out of our webbing and easily dissolvable than, yeah. sure. why not?
>>
>>27091819
>>27091737
Grenade People, why don't we just invent Impact Webbing. I mean, it pretty much does what a grenade would do, and has the advantage of being usable from the web shooter instead of carried.
Also, maybe we should take a page out of Ben's book and add a dart launcher so we can fire sedatives.

Well... okay then.

What about a web-patterned ascot? You know, something we can wear around our neck, but all tucked into the coat and junk. Class it up a smidge without making it a target or safety hazard.
>>
>>27091819
...couldn't we just over pressurize the liquid webbing then have multiple release jets? That may be what you're saying, but I think you might be over engineering this thing.

For pressure I assume we can hook a small CO2 canister up to the thing, but I'm open to suggestions if you think that would be too bulky.
>>
>>27091870
that might work.

>>27091864
Didn't it require extensive modifications to the webshooters, basically doublign them in size and necessitating a second emitter nozzle? Wasn't that why Scarlet Spider's were clearly visible arm bands?
>>
>>27091856

Also, what would happen once we contact Nick Fury and tell him what our parents said to? He's not going to just let us walk away. We know far too much.
Of course, being S.H.I.E.L.D., they'll eventually find out Peter is Spiderman. And then they'll want us to work for them.

This is all pretty damn predictable behavior for them.
>>
>>27091856
Osborn can keep tabs on us through Harry, our teachers and likely a fair amount of electronic surveillance equipment pointed at our house...and maybe installed on our computer...
>>
>>27091888
How about making the web grenade small, like the size of a marble. You can put it in your pocket or in a small bag.
>>
>>27091819
Oh, I like that idea. Yeah, radial-burst web grenades would be much safer. So a bunch of nozzles arranged in a ring around a disc containing a small web capsule with a bursting charge.Throw it into the room, let it bounce, and it shoots out a dozen web lines at everything around it. Much easier to use safely, though there still might be some risk if someone got really unlucky or was just too close to the detonation.
>>

>[x]Give your new costume a quick spin

haha! time for webslinging
>>
>>27091914
So... like one of those ninja smoke pellets, except it shoots webbing everywhere?

I like it.
>>
>>27091844
I shouldn't think so. I mean the adhesive doesn't reactive explosively to air iirc, so there would need to be a mechanism to spin it.

>>27091864
Compared to designing a grenade? Probably take more effort to be honest.

>>27091870
I'm totally in favor of stylish emergency tourniquet.

>>27091888
No that's pretty much what I was thinking. I'll see if I can't wrangle Gimp to try and draw up what I was talking about.
>>
>>27091914
Or launched from the wrist like our webbing.
>>
>>27091891
I think the second nozzle was actually the dart launcher. I know he used larger web cartridges then peter, which is part of the reason they were wore on the outside. The darts and impact webbing also required specific hand motions.
>>
>>27091870
I'm still not a fan of anything around our neck that someone could grab for leverage or to choke us. Could you just add detailing to the jacket itself or the shirt? I really do not want to get dragged by a flying enemy (think green goblin) across Manhatten by an ascot. Style can be cool, but it can't take priority. My two cents anyway.

You grab the newspaper from your bag and go downstairs- there’s a note on the board from Aunt May- she’s going to get a few things from the store- so you have the house to yourself for now- Uncle Ben won’t get home until five or so.

You turn on the TV and flip to the news- there’s something there-

-”BREAK-IN AT OSCORP”-

There’s an article there on the news and in your paper- it seems like there’s some property- experimental technology- that’s been stolen from Oscorp. The weapons were patented but were major prototypes for flight based technology and theoretical stand ins for Kevlar, along with a few other minor things.

At the current time, the person suspected by police is the Black Cat, though the article notes that this is contrary to his normal modus operandi, especially since there wasn’t a cat card left behind.

Regardless, the police feel that people should be on the lookout for any suspicious persons and if they have any tips, to sent them to the police hotline immediately.

You stare down at the paper, feeling oddly satisfied. Serves Osborn right.

A break-in at Oscorp, though, and Black Cat is suspected?

Gwen has been avoiding us like the plague since we said we like her and has a confirmed stalker. She also has spider power.

MJ moved back in with her aunt two days ago and is still recovering from an abusive childhood and her mother's recent death. She still has a restraining order against her father and has been shown to make bad decisions when feeling threatened in any emotional way.

We made out with the black cat and petted her a bit.
>>
>>27091975
> call black cat
She didn't do this right? Not her style. Lacks her style. Obviously not her.
But if the cops are going to be blaming the black cat for stealing from oscorp, well might as well give them a reason and show them how its REALLY done.

We have a few ideas about that.
>>
>>27091975
>[ ]Call Black Cat- see if she’s responsible
Aside from the fact she's some kind of master thief, she seems like a pretty cool gal.
>>
>>27091973
If it was an easy tear-away thing, it wouldn't be a problem. Like a clip-on tie. One tug and i pulls right off. We could leave it as a calling card, use it as an air-filter for someone else we have to get out of a burning building, emergency bandage or tourniquet.

My only worry is working them in a sterilized environment so they don't get Parker DNA evidence on them. Don't want to leave fingerprints and hair samples.
>>
>>27092119
It's hard when she refuses to even look at us in school. We could use a few suggestions on how to get her back.
I mean, should we give her a gift to let her know we're serious? Like a costume (she got bit by the spider too)?
She might be willing to talk to us again.
>>
>>27092112
We have our Spider-Phone now, we don't need to use a pay phone.
>>
>>27092145
Oh, I like that one. Get her help by phrasing it as an insult to her skill for such an unstylish heist to be attributed to her.
>>
>>27092170
Caller ID, son.

Failing that, she could probably trace the phone to us using some kind of freaky-awesome thief skills.
>>
>>27092170
I thought that was for public use? Don't want anyone to stumble into the phone's contact list and find "Black Cat" saved there.

And she'll find out that it came from one Peter Parker, not Spider-man.
>>
>>27092166
Perhaps we should clear up the stalker problem first. If she still refuses to talk to us, then it's probably has to do with the bounty or Black Cat.
>>
>>27092192
Please tell me that we did not register that in our own name. We paid in cash and the whole point was to have a phone that didn't lead back to us.
>>
>>27092175
There is a possibility that this is all a trap to capture the black cat.
>>
>>27092194
>>27092192
It's a disposable cell phone paid for in cash. There's nothing tracing it back to us.
>>
>>27092229

Then let's call the kitty.
>>
>>27092219
Its calls CAN be triangulated between towers, and its position tracked. But they'd need access to the phone company and reason to suspect that phone's particular ID. So Shield and Oscorp are the only ones to worry about tracking that phone now.
>>
>>27092208
You didn't register anything. It's a disposable cell phone, one you can get rid of. There's currently nothing that leads it back to you if you get rid of it. Other than maybe your fingerprints.
>>
>>27091975
>Call Black Cat- see if she’s responsible
"Can you believe it? Take a break for not even a week and people are already imitating you."
>>
>>27091975
Well now this is interesting...

Call Black Cat; ask if she's been a naughty kitten.

Also Part 1 of 14 has been the only Cosgrove quest thread I have ever missed. Feels weird
>>
>>27092252
Right. And we only need to worry about them tracking us with it if we repeatedly call from locations that can be used to identify us. If we're swinging through downtown the triangulation won't mean much since we're moving and downtown doesn't mean anything to us.
>>
>>27092253
Thank you, that is an incredible relief.
>>
What kind of costume do we currently have right now?
>>
>>27091975
Should we tell her that the thing we're aiming to take has literal world-changing potential?

You know, to keep her interested?

With a disclaimer along the lines of >"For the record, that wasn't me either."

And I would like to propose that if we ever get a chance to work on something next, I suggest we tinker with this phone. Maybe build in some kind of scrambler so it can't be tracked?
I doubt Peter would want to waste money repurchasing disposable phones.

>[ ]Call Black Cat- see if she’s responsible

You head downstairs, locking the basement door as you go and grab your mask and put it on before pulling out the Black Cat’s card and dialing the number. You /could/ use a public phone, but then she’s hear your voice, unaltered by the mask.

The phone rings once- twice- three times- before she picks it up, a bit out of breath. “Spider, is that you? I thought you‘d never call.”

“Yup, I saw the news so I had to call. I’m still in the planning stages so it wasn’t me and this doesn’t have your style over it at all.”

You keep your voice calm as she catches her breath, her voice becomes teasing. “Ah, you know me too well Spider, and you were waiting until we could do it -together.~” She pauses and gets more serious, her voice almost sounding angry.

“This wasn’t me, and I‘m actually upset people think that it is. The news isn’t reporting it but there was a guard injured, badly, and that goes against my code of conduct. Furthermore, I like to have a challenge and there’s no reason for me to steal something that can fly- this Cat likes to stay grounded.”

“I want you help Spider-man. Help me catch and reveal the person responsible for this, please.”

Her voice is serious and pleading.

>>27092943
Doesn't matter if they're patented. If another company has the secrets of how they're made, they can create duplicates that are just-different-enough to not be infringing. And it also shows that the company isn't interested in serious security if they'll let their secrets slip away. That attracts predators, other companies looking to eat up a part of Oscorp's stock or market share. We could also send copies to Hammer Industries, Reed Richards (though he has little interest in weapons, personal flight devices may intrigue him), and any other major companies.

>I'll see if I can't wrangle Gimp to try and draw up what I was talking about.

This is what I was talking about (only better drawn). A tapered disk with holes at the widest points to release the webbing. Swing it after some runners at knee/ankle height with some spin to stabilize the throw and provide torque for the webbing and you have a pretty safe takedown toy that prevents people from running without necessarily risking asphyxiation from your targets.
>>
>>27093016
True. Though I doubt he knows that much about Peter Parker. And asking Cat about how she impersonated Gwen that well would probably just get us an "a magician never reveals her tricks" line or some such. Best not to bring it up.
>>
>>27093063
That would be unnecessary against runners, we could just shoot a web line at them. But massed groups would still be nice to eliminate quickly.
>>
Slightly off-topic, but I do like the idea of designing some costumes for Gwen and leaving them as a peace offering for her some place where no-one but her would get them. I mean if the only reason she's avoiding us is because of high school assholes then she would have no problems with an alter-ego.
>>
>>27093016
I figured we'd just imply that we bribed high school students to tell us things, and wondered if Black Cat previously hired anyone to make things happen to Gwen that would strengthen her alibi.

But yeah that's a big leap from idle curiosity to creeping around a high school.

Ah well, it probably had nothing to do with her anyway.
>>
>>27093115

>>
>>27093101
Against an individual? Of course. But as a way of sealing off exits, making safety nets, catching groups, it's pretty close to ideal.
>>
>>27093073
Good point.

Eh when we're on speaking terms with Gwen, we might be able to piece together what happened.
>>
>>27093047
Actually that's kind of good business sense. Actually curing cancer eliminates one of the largest crash cows that the pharmaceutical industry has, chronic life saving treatments are expensive and recurring. Once a generic cure is on the market the real money will be gone.

Weapons, on the other hand, tend to be more marketable and retain a higher profit margin. And once they become obsolete you are generally able to legally expand their sale into new markets, so you still make good money.

A douche move on Norm's part to be sure, but he wanted to have his Savior of Humanity level publicity and actually have a revenue generating product.
>>

>>
>[ ]Yeah, tonight could work.

You think about it, so long as you grab a short nap after hanging with Felix, you should be able to manage it. “Yeah, tonight could work.

"So, Kitty likes to play in the night, huh?"

Your voice is teasing as Black Cat laughs, a very pleasant sound as she continues to banter with you. “Of course I do, Spider. But its always been alone, maybe this time I’ll have a partner? But it’ll be my first time, so you’ll have to be ~gentle.~

“Still, though, I have an appointment of my own to keep Spider, I need to put on my a face- a girl never should go out without looking her best. So, give me a call when you’re free and we’ll set up a meeting place.

“See you later~”

And she hangs up. You sit there and relax. The call was decently long, you should probably be getting ready to go now. You’ve agreed to meet Black Cat tonight, so should you bring your costume?

>>
>>27093142
But that's wrong. Everyone gets cancer, and a company that holds a patent on the only cure for cancer would capture the entire market and drive their competitors out of business. There will always be a market for a cancer cure, even if it's a cancer vaccine, because people are constantly being born.
>>

>>
>>27093212
Periodical cancer treatments cost money until you die. Cancer cures cost money once.
>>
>>27093175
Is there a reason we cannot wear the old suit that I missed?
>>
>>27093212
Right. What Osborn did in the 616 universe was he took a cure for cancer and weaponized it against the Skrull. Since it was so easy to turn into a biological weapon, it was banned and nobody could use it. It wasn't business at all.
>>
>>27093230
The old one is clothes as well, you could TRY to wear it under normal clothes, but it might get noticed when you're dealing with someone who pays attention to you and putting it into a bag would still have the same results.
>>
>>27093219
You roll a critical fail and cause the clothes of yourself and your three female friends to explode into a thousand pieces?

Put it in a bag and leave it someplace out of reach outside of Felix's house. Then pick it up and change after we're done.
>>
>>27093264
...I'm okay with that.
>>
>>27093228
And everyone with cancer wants the cancer cure, not the other competing treatments. You get all of the money in the entire market, all at once.

And if it's a cancer vaccine, literally everyone wants it.
>>
>>27093175
>>[ ]Yeah, leave it in your backpack, make it come off like you headed to Felix’s after coming back from school
Aren't we still heading to felix's anyway?
>>
>>27093279
This. We could have it in a beg that is webbed someplace not easily reachable or noticeable.
>>
>>27093159
Assuming that it is a symbiotic organism? Probably not. Yes technically you could put in some kind of genetic feedback loop to induce apoptosis once the thing can't detect any remaining cancer cells, but I've already thought of four ways that could go wrong in the last fifteen or so seconds.

Also, someone would reverse engineer an actual permanent cure out of the suit anyway, so he might as well take the publicity and noble prize and move on to more lucrative projects. In this case that was the weaponization of the cure for cancer.
>>
>>27093175
>[ ]Yeah, leave it in your backpack, make it come off like you headed to Felix’s after coming back from school
Besides, it'd make for interesting narrative. Cat's saying she has prior engagements right around the time we need to go see Felix...

If our intuition is correct, and Felix is who we think she is, and come on, it's way too obvious at this point. Felix is actually reverse trap Black Cat. But just because it's obvious at this point doesn't mean it can't still be entertaining, Cosgrove. then it's gonna be a fun issue...
>>
>>27093175
How hot is the Gwen suit? Could we wear pieces of it under our clothes or would épée over heat?
>>
>>27093230
No, just that it's not as good looking. We want to look a bit more professional with every appearance the Spider-Man makes. This is a purpose-made costume rather than a suitable collection of clothes.
>>
The new suit is a set of reversible clothing that we can wear as street clothes, then switch over to webslinging. No risk of detection, no phony stories about long-johns or night chills. Just a dude with a jacket and some pants.
>>
>>27093329
>>27093334
Not to mention Cosgrove said anybody looking at us would see it under our clothes. Like Felix, who will be joining us for the next few hours.
>>
>>27093308
To be honest I kind of suspect that the suit is tremendously unsuited to actually being a cure for cancer, to the point where it just straight up kills things.

Like in the Ultimate Universe, what really killed Peter's parents was that Eddie's dad tried wearing the Suit and it went berserk and killed everybody.

...Also I just realized that if he shows up in this quest, Anti-Venom would be what our dad intended to create from the beginning.
>>
>>27093279
Oh yeah, we could do that, couldn't we?

Though that might be somewhat risky.
>>
>>27093379
...What ultimate universe are you talking about? In Ultimate Spider-Man his parents were killed by the Hulk.
>>
>>27093379
Anti-Venom came up in a pretty contrived set of circumstances that we aren't likely to come across this time. We're very different from Peter Parker was in any of the comics or the like.
>>
Guys, put costume in bag and web it to the underside of a building near-by Felix's. We can get to it easily and change up on a roof.

>>
>>27093416
Isn't the Last Stand Spidey Suit's jacket reversible?

Theoretically, with our current costume, couldn't we just turn the jacket inside out to the Spidey side, put on our gloves and mask, and call it done?
>>

>>

Exactly. That's why we made it. It may not be the 'coolest' or 'most powerful' spidey costume, but it is definitely the most practical.
>>

I think it's pretty fucking cool actually.
>>

Really depends. Ultimate has soem ups and downs, but I stopped caring after they killed Peter Parker, personally.

in 616, main universe, that depends. the run right now has a lot of... mixed opinions.
>>
>>27093466
It is implied, though, that something went wrong during testing the suit. It's never made explicitly clear, but the videos Richard left Peter describing his research get very, very ominous towards the end. That also coincides with the time his research was being turned towards Super-Soldier work, so Banner probably wasn't the first berserk living weapon he encountered.
>>
>>27093497
Wait for Peter to comeback, whenever that is.

should be a fine jumping on point

Ultimate Peter was pretty good though
>>
>>27093497
look for the "0.1" book. It's their way of marking where a good starting point for new readers is.

Current storyline if you're starting with Superior Spiderman isPeter got a great job as an itinerant inventor at a tech company called Horizon Labs. Loved it. He leveraged a bunch of his old spidey-gadgets into successful technologies. Spidey was invited to the Avengers and accepted. Things were looking up. then a terminally-ill Otto Octavius switched his brain with Peter's and killed the old Otto-Body. Now Otto Octavius is running Peter's life with the conviction that he can do a better job as both Peter and Spider-Man than old Peter ever could.
>>

I find it difficult to believe a publicly traded company can track every single person that googles them.

>>
>>27093571

>>
>>27093497
Ultimate is great, including it's current run with Miles. Superior Spider-Man is also great. If you want 616 Spider-Man, start with Amazing Spider-Man issue #648, the beginning of Dan Slott's run. If you want Ultimate, read the whole thing, it's worth it.

You might also like "Venom" (though that's ending soon), "Scarlet Spider" (though you should read ASM #666-673 first), and "The Superior Foes of Spider-Man" (Only three issues so far).
>>
>>27093657
That's what a lot of spider-fans have said. I've pretty much passed on the whole run, myself.

That's right, we have a new costume, don't we? No need to take a backpack along; we can just pull the mask and gloves from the pockets, switch the jacket to the Spidey side and off we go.

Only reason I could see for us to take the backpack is to switch shoes when we change into Spider-Man, maybe, and bring along our tutoring things.
>>

I don't know if we made the jacket reversible, pretty sure that'd be the "deluxe" option, while ours was more "bare minimum"

Also we'd need to make sure we never take the jacket off, or at least no one looks inside it, which is tricky.
>>
>>27093716
Wait, the jacket is reversible? I thought we only rolled a moderate success for that?
>>

>[ ]Yeah, leave it in your backpack, make it come off like you headed to Felix’s after coming back from school
>DC15, result 18, success!

You take off your mask and look at it before grabbing your backpack and empty out all of your books, taking your costume and putting it into it. It’s a bit risky, but it’ll have to do.

Better than heaving to explain your costume’s existence to Aunt May and Uncle Ben. After making sure everything’s in order downstairs, you leave a note- saying you’re over a Felix’s place. You don’t say you’re tutoring, but she knows you can be over at Felix’s place for a decent amount of time.

With everything in order, you look at the clock. it’s a little after four, you might arrive a minute or two early-nothing too big.

You take you time walking there as you look around. The skies have some clouds in them, but it isn’t supposed to rain again for a few days. According to the weather forecast you read, at least.

You ring the doorbell when you arrive at Felix’s house and he opens the door with a smile, letting you in. He looks a little tired, but in good spirits.

“Peter, good to see you. Um.. Why do you have your backpack. We aren’t studying today.”

He looks confused at the presence of your backpack, but you wave it off, looking embarrassed. “Well, sicne I was meeting with you I stuck around school late to check out some books in the library. I got really involved in one on current material sciences- Well, anyway I kinda spent most of my time there before heading here.”

Felix lets out a sigh and shakes his head, looking exasperated. “You don’t have anything but science on the brain, do you Peter?”

He gives you a grin as he hobbles on his crutch over to the living room, where you normally study. “Well… this is rather new for me. What do you normally do when you hang out, Peter?”

>dc7, roll 1-AUTOMATIC FAILURE

You shrug helplessly. "... I have no idea... Watch a movie or play a video game or something? Is Magic the Gathering still a thing?"

You give a helpless look as Felix laughs before shaking his head as you sober yourself as you sit in your usual spot. “Well, I guess a movie, but didn’t you have something you wanted to talk about?”

Felix looks away embarrassed. “W-well, I suppose. The thing is part of the problem was dealt with a little bit ago. I met this person, you see, our first meeting wasn’t the best… They called me earlier today and it seems like everything’s okay, they were just busy.”

He clears his throat. “S-so, I was wondering if you could give me any advice, as I’d like this not to mess up.”

You nod your head as you listen to Felix. So, he needs some advice. He probably met someone while he was at the hospital, poor guy. You’re not the best at relationships, but you can tell him what you can.

“Well, how much do you know about this person, Felix?”

Felix looks thoughtful before shaking his head. “Not too much, why?”

You give a smile, at least you can give this advice. “You shouldn’t rush things- get to know the person first. Learn what they like, what their hobbies are- that sort of thing. You shouldn’t make them feel pressured, you might drive them off. But don’t cross boundaries they’re uncomfortable with, either.”

Felix considers it and nods. “Yeah. You’re right. I should get to know this person better. Thanks, Peter.”

He gives you a smile as you shake your head. “Not a problem.”

Felix smiles, turning on the TV, which is rather large. “So, what kind of movie would you like to watch?”

Or we could roll seven twenties. Not too close together, though, because we can't hold all that spectacularity. Still, we are fucked. Can we maybe change the increase in Parker Luck to only apply when we're dealing with villains? Natural ones would still auto-fail, but we'd at least have the guarantee that being a dope with our friends will only ruin our reputation, not our karma.

Yes, but that's not because of Rerolling as a mechanic, it's because we have no idea how to "read" the rolls and the stakes up for grabs, so we treat everything as if it was life-or-death. As long as Cos makes the various types of failures consistent across rolls, we will learn and the PL will act as a much more relevant disincentive.

Okay, that actually is a good point. I had missed that. Yeah, not having Parker Luck would make it easier to deal with the fallout of a villain figuring out our identity, at least. Much better to catch Gwen falling off the bridge alive when the DC is ten less that it could be.

Though it does raise the question of whether Cosgrove will tell us when our PL decreases because of being found out. Straight-up telling us would kind of ruin the fun, but we would probably pick up on something from the villain having much lower rolls than we're used to.

Yeah. Which is why I object to the people who say Richards is a dick for not using his technology to change the world. Him trying to do that is how we get stuff like Clor.
>>
>>27095957
And the backhand in the origional script just called for a push, but the artist preferred big sweeping motions.
Hell the only reason we're even talking about it is because Marvel won't let it die.

>[ ]Grab a nap on a rooftop

You grab a good out of the way area on a roof- climbing it when you can’t be seen- that you wouldn’t be able to be seen well, by other people or from the air, and change into your costume before setting your phone’s alarm for an hour from now.

You then take a nap in your costume. When you awaken to the sound of your alarm, its entirely dark out- night has fallen and you have a meeting to set up.

You sit up and adjust your shoes- the one thing you had to buy- shoes with incredibly thin soles- thankfully not custom made, so you can easily use your climbing powers with them on.

You pull out your phone and call the Black Cat- the phone rings once before it is picked up. “Hey there, Spider. You made me wait, you know. I was getting nervous. Where would you like to meet?”

Also, superhero comics are an inherently violent medium where loved ones come to blows pretty frequently, and Pym was suffering from a mental breakdown and was more or less a supervillain at that point. Janet is perfectly justified in not feeling safe around Hank after that, but it's not because it was domestic abuse. It's an entirely different set of horrible behaviors. Characterizing Pym as a spouse beater because of that scene is really not fair to the character. The crazy, friend-murdering character.

I don't know about the Venom thing, but for most of his appearances in the comics the Green Goblin's identity was left ambiguous. Ditko wanted it to be some nobody to emphasize that a villain didn't need a personal connection to the hero to make their life miserable. Lee thought it needed to be Osborn or all the build-up was for nothing. Their disagreement over it led to the Goblin being somewhat of a vague character up until the Death of Gwen Stacy arc.

“Why don’t you decide, Cat?”

There’s silence on the other end for a minute or two- you think she might’ve hung up- before she finally speaks. “The rooftop of Our Lady of saints Church. You know the place?”

That place- you remember it. Most definitely you do- its not too far from here.

“Yeah, I can be there shortly.”

“Good, see you then.”

She hangs up as you look over the rooftops in the direction of Our Lady of Saints Church. It won’t take you long to get there by Webslinging, but you could also try to reach it more stealthily from jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

You limitedly sued you webshooters to websling around- and you have a new costume- you should show off some. But first- you web your backpack with your normal clothes to a wall- that’s safe for now.

Then you’re off- its enjoyable to do this, really. As you begin to fall you extend a wrist forward, webshooting out as you release and grab the web strand and use it like a pendulum to send you flying higher- again and again you do it.

The fast movement, the wind biting at you- its exhilarating. Forget a car- THIS is what it means to travel in style!

An a few minutes, you arrive at the Church’s roof and wait- she’s not here yet.

You sit in the shadows, the dark red and blues are almost unnoticeable in the shadows at the top of the church. However, even though you’re on the lookout, you can’t see where the Black Cat is coming from.

One moment nobody’s there and the next, she’s sitting on top of the church in the open- hard to see from below- easy to see from your position.

It seems like she doesn’t know you’re here, in fact she seems to be deep in thought.

She steps away and sits down, gesturing for you to sit next to her. Your spider sense is silent and she’s rather serious so you take the risk and sit down. She smiles at you before letting out a sigh.

“What do you think of me, Spider?”

>>
>>27097639
Yeah, that's a pretty good one. Cat might be a criminal, but she's not doing anything particularly bad. She seems like a nice person, even if her antics are distracting the police. Really our only problem with her is that her breaking out right after we caught her makes everyone look bad. The police work hard, you know, they deserve at least an hour's worth of feeling triumphant before you escape.
>>

>>
>>27097808

>>
These write ins are kind of incredibly cringe worthy.
This super earnest all cards on the table type of dialogue is some shonen tier shit. Nobody would ever, or will ever talk like this.
Also, making huge generalizations and extrapolating about people to their face isn't the way to get ahead in social situations.
Nor is pushing this identity-crisis case to come clean with Peter.
>>
>>27097696
Except it's not a binary condition. I mean, the basic issue of trust exists on both sides. We've only met like twice now, and only have the preconceptions to work on. We're someone who wears a mask to hide our identity, while she can take the faces of others to hid hers. It's not a hard comparison to make that sets up the initial "flaw" in the relationship: we can never fully trust the other. Putting that out on the table isn't any more insulting than putting out any of the other possible responses about the question we know she's asking and that we're not addressing.

>>27097782
>>27097775
This instance of decision making is one of managing risk. There is no right or wrong answer here. If PL gives flat combat bonuses to our enemies than at a +6 Cassidy is still outpreforming his specialization by a significant degree and could still easily wreck us, because it's a bonus modifier. Being able to cheat death in a potential fight (that may or may not happen) is a pretty big deal in comparison to he 10% boost the 2 points of PL give him over spending it.

Also, looking at many of the opposition, most are for burning it, just not now.
>>
>>27097808
>Because it would be so much better to risk going into lethal combat without a safety net. A +2 is not going to fuck us for this one night, alright?
At the higher DCs (e.g. 15-18), +2 is a 15-20% drop in odds of success. And the higher DCs are going to be a lot more common on opposed rolls because all our enemies have PLUS EIGHT POINTS to all rolls.
>>
>>27097749
Cos, you might want to recount; I'm seeing more answers yes than no.
>>
>>27097834
>shonen tier shit
Cosgrove also runs Bleach Quest, so that is really not surprising.
>>
>>27097808
Isn't current Parker Luck a +8? That's a huge fucking modifier.
>>
>>27097808
We went in at the START of this thread without a safety net.
We could've been in combat many times.

Also my count was 14 Yes and 12 No.
With a number of Nos also saying not right now.
>>
>>27097834
So come up with something better.

And the problem is that realistic dialogue is essentially impossible due to there not being a way to get an effective back and forth, conversation is instead turn-based speeches.
>>
>>27097834
Fair enough. Do better.
>>
>>27097850
So is +6
>>
>>27097868
But it's significantly smaller than +8.
>>
>>27097847
>
For each point it increases, the Parker Luck will aid your major enemies. For example, if the villain is trying to find you loved ones or any other villainous schemes, they will have a bonus to their roll equal to your Parker Luck.
It says nothing about "all rolls" involving our adversaries.
>>
To reiterate-we have a get-our-family-out-of-anything card.
It is called nick fury.
We have his phone number.
Shield agents can extract hostages from just about anything.
The cost?
Its nick fury. Once he knows you exist your life has rails especially if you owe him a favor.
>>
>>27097868
It's less and makes it less likely that our friends or family will meet horrible ends.
>>
>>27097837
>Putting that out on the table isn't any more insulting than putting out any of the other possible responses about the question we know she's asking and that we're not addressing.
Black cat has probably been more friendly with Peter than anyone ever, all of her dialogue points to this, calling into question the sincerity of her actions getting close to the first person she's getting close to isn't a way to move forward in the relationship.
>>

“So miss Cat, it is my pleasure to get to know you better, and I think it's time to turn that question back on you. What do you think of me?"

She stares at you for a few moments as you look at her before she shakes her head, a small smile on her face. “Well, you have a way with words, honestly. You also have your own self-interests, but you aren’t a bad person- you don’t force people to do things- you could have made Jameson give you the money, but instead you manipulated him to do it instead.

“Honestly, that can be a bad thing, but, after tonight, I’m certain- you’re a good person and I want to know more about you.”

She smiles and stretches before pointing a finger in your face. “But I’m not going to steal these answers from you, I’ll get them fairly. How’s a question for a question- honest answers only. AND I promise not to ask your name. If we’re going to work together, we have to trust that what we tell each other is the truth.”

No it's not. A +2 difference on a d20 seems significant, but without a bell-curve of multiple dice, anything with up to 2-6 points of variance can be simply brute forced over a number of trials.

In short, the more times a trial is made, the less significant a 10% modifier on 1d20 is. Your point is pretty much only valid if a villain only gets one PL boosted roll.

A place where jokes and admittedly not so clever word play goes unnoticed.
>>
We should alternate light/heavy questions.

So our next one should be pretty fluffy, like her hobbies, or where she god her costume.

Not really that important. We have a working relationship, that's all for now. If it grows into more than that, great. But we need to focus. Eyes on the prize. What Black Cat may or may not have in His and/or her and/or its pants isn't important.

How did you impersonate the Captain's daughter so well?
What's your real hair color?
Is there a Mr. Black Cat?
How did you get into this life of crime?
>>
I'd say "Why she's a thief" is an important question.
>>
>>27098621
Yes I've been wondering for several threads where she got that costume.

Then ask if her parents know she steals pricless objects of art
>>
>>27098608
"Why do you have a costume? Given how you impersonated Captain Stacy's daughter you can't have needed one yet."
>>
Should we ask if there was anything she told us the night we spoke on the roof that -wasn't- the truth?

Like I'm thinking of how she said she was an adult, and her breasts were natural.

It'd definitely clarify a lot, but I feel like it would be better to just give her the benefit of the doubt.
>>
Would it be too vain to ask how exactly we made such a strong impression on her?
>>
>>27098637
Furthermore, why would we suspect this without metagaming? Okay, Black Cat is clearly a master of disguise. But it's a bit of a leap from there to "oh my god what if she's really a dude". Without suspecting Felix, which Peter does not as of yet, there is no reason to wonder what her gender is.
>>
>>27098765
yes
>>
>>27098647
>What's your real hair color?
She said it was white, so let's trust her. Though.

"You said your natural hair color was white, and I have no reason to doubt that. Though there's only one way I can see that being the case, so I have to ask, what's your real eye color??"

Like regardless of Felix, we know that white hair=almost certainly albino right?
>>
>>27098775
Thought so.

And it would be too invasive to ask why she was out of breath the first time we called today?
>>
>>27098828
yes
>>
>>27098657

this

also we should ask her what her favorite colour is

it's black
>>
This doesn't really seem like a good time for everyone to be gone.

Since we're trying to sort out what to ask last thread, and it'd be good to have consensus.
>>
>>27098765
It's obvious. We're being nice to her little brother.
>>
>>27098841
Can we at least ask how she knew we were the ones calling her, before we even said hello?
>>
>>27098853
That's unlikely on two levels.
>>
"What do you think I could do to improve my costume?"
>>
>>27098866
Eh, she'd probably say paint it black.
>>
Weapon of choice for the inevitable zombie uprising?

Spiderman hero or menace?

Best thing you ever stole?
>>
>>27098404
"So... other than nicking cat statues, any other hobbies?"
>>
-'How did you impersonate Captain Stacy's daughter so well?' is good.
-'Is Snake Plissken the coolest character ever, or the coolest character ever?' (Maybe not, but hey)
-Did you ever have difficulties with your costume? Mine was such a pain."
Also supporting:
-"Why do you have a costume? Given how you impersonated Captain Stacy's daughter you can't have needed one yet."
-"Why did you choose to become a thief?"
>>
>>27098543
Give her a freebee.

"I'll cheat a bit. I've got super human strength, increased agility, and i can crawl on walls. Not to mention these things"
The webshooters "That i put together myself. Something happened to me, it's crazy, and im a little scared at this, well, Power."
>>
>>27098797
I thought she said it was a wig.
>>
>>27098858
Probably because she gave us a disposable cell number. We're the only one she gave it to or expected to call her on it. Just like if our phone rings, she's the only one we'd expect to be calling it.
>>
>>27098858
Actually it was probably just simple deduction now that I look back on it.
>>
>>27098890
Nah, I think she's honor bound to answer us honestly, though she might ask us something similarly personal in return.
>>
>>27098899
Yeah she said it was a wig, but she said it was still her real hair color.

So her hair is white, but shorter.

Because she's Felix Hardy.

Only due to rolling a 1, we've reached Harem Protagonist levels of oblivious in that field.
>>
She asked us a general question; lets not go all business guys.
Keep it light and friendly.
>>
>>27098926
it would really depend on whether or not it meant that she knew who Peter was beforehand, which I don't see her admitting to after a few words.
But really the point is moot, >>27098901
has it in one most likely.
>>
>>27098901
But we already gave our number out to Anna Watson and probably Aunt May and Uncle Ben?
>>
>>27098965
But yeah

>>27098909
>>27098926
Has a point.
>>
>>27098976
Whoops, meant to quote >>27098909
not >>27098926
>>
>>27098956
I think asking about her costume is pretty light and friendly.

I mean she's wearing what appears to be latex, fur, and a domino mask.

What's up with that?
>>
>>27099003
Ya I can dig asking her how she came up with her duds?
>>
>>27098956
Good point. How about swapping stories on why we chose our animal motifs? Black Cat is probably just for the cat burglar pun, obviously, but it could still be interesting to ask why she chose that particular theme for her supranym.
>>
>>27099035
I'd still like to find an indirect way of verifying if she knows anything about Gwen Stacy, and why she steals.

The other three ca be fluff tough.
>>
We could ask try to ask her something fluffy that turns out to be critically relevant, like what she had for dinner tonight.

But that'd be way too metagamey.
>>
>How does she feel about the musical Cats?
> What does she do when shes not stealing stuff?
> What was her inspiration to become a honorable thief?
>what kind of movies/music/hobbies does she like?
> How does she avoid pany and bra lines in that thing? I mean seriously.
> how about that local sports team?
> why the cat theme?
>>
>>27099113
>How does she avoid pany and bra lines in that thing? I mean seriously.

Actually that's a good point that indicates her gender.

Since since she seemed just as excited as we were, when she was straddling us that time, you'd think we would have noticed a certain something as well, wouldn't we?
>>
>>27099113
>what kind of movies/music/hobbies does she like?
Can't hurt to do this.
>>
>>27099113
>why the cat theme?
Cause a cat's the only cat who knows where it's at. Duh.
>>
Hey Cosgrove, when you're reviewing this thread, could you first just pick the five questions that seem most popular, and hold them up for review first?

I think we'll do good, but it seems like mostly everyone is gone.
>>
>>27099113
What's the last movie she's watched?
>>
Can we ask her if she and us are the only costumed weirdos she knows about?

I think that could be pretty informative.
