Beams of sunlight dance across your face and you slowly open your eyes to see palm fronds flowing in the breeze. The sound of gentle waves crashing unto the shore must have been a little bit too relaxing; you might have slept in a little. Hopefully everyone else isn’t as lazy as you. You slowly sit up and look to your left. Mordecai and Ruby are sleeping harder than you were, Mordecai in particular. His lazy ass is snoring louder than any ludroth you’ve ever heard.

Luckily, when you look to your right you find that at least somebody wasn’t dozing off. Twenty feet away from you sits Avery, quietly sharpening one of his many knives. You wave in his direction, and he silently nods back. He’s quite the mysterious one.

Time to remember why you are here. You hunt monsters for a living. You’re a hero. But what kind of hero are you?
>>

>Pick a weapon class
>It can be changed later so don’t put too much thought into it

>Lance & Sheild
You’ve always been rather cautious. A lance will have increased range and will be able to pierce into monster’s weak points from a distance. You will also be able to hold up your shield while you fight to protect yourself from attacks. You sacrifice speed for using the lance though, and will need to use the shield often.

>Sword & Shield
You’re an energetic young lad. Using a short sword will make you very quick and agile, but at the sacrifice of power and range. Your shield isn’t as good as the shield in the lance class, but it’s better than no damage. You will have a much more versatile set of actions than other weapons.

>Hammer
You’re a big guy. Using a hammer will cause massive blunt damage to enemies, and is capable of breaking bones and faces easily. But with great strength comes great responsibility. You don’t a have a shield, and as such have to use your hammer for defense. The hammer is pretty heavy too, so you won’t be running that fast.

>Great Sword
You like to put on a show. The great sword is an oversized sword meant to slice into monsters, capable of tearing tails off like child’s play. You don’t have a shield so you’ll have to either dodge enemy attacks or block them with your sword, which isn’t good for it. You are going to be a monster’s main target if you use this puppy.

>Bowgun
You’re patient. The bowgun is a long range weapon capable of firing bullets and darts for hundreds of meters. You’ll start off with a variety of pellets to use, and you’ll be able to make more if you ever run out. You won’t have any way of melee attacking however, and you’ll have to dodge things instead of blocking them.

>Bowgun it is

You stand up and look at the ocean, blue as ever. So beautiful, but so dangerous. Even in knee deep water you might get killed by some sleeping beast.

You’re mysterious friend Avery turns his head to you and motions to come over. He obviously doesn’t want to wake up your companions, and neither do you. Mordecai in a rage can be quite a pain. You tiptoe over to him, making sure not to trip over any of you or your friend’s armor. Sleeping on the beach overnight probably wasn’t that good of an idea. But boy, did it feel good.

“How long have you been awake?” Avery remains quiet, and looks at the sun beginning to rise into the sky. It’s probably about 6 AM.

“I just got up. What about you?”

“I’ve been up all night. I was keeping watch.”

“You could have asked any of us and we would have taken your place.”

Avery is silent, but you aren’t sure if it’s because he’s tired or if it’s because he’s moody. He is often very moody.

You break the silence. “So you didn’t see anything right?”

“Not really. A few epioths floating around in the dark but that was it.”

You sigh in relief. There could have been some very bad consequences to taking a beach nap in your profession. It’s a good thing you’re on a relatively safe beach. Or at least it was. You remember why you came to this island.

“So you didn’t spot any ludroth?”

“Not a single one.”

Damn. Mordecai rolls over in his sleep and says something about his bread rolls not having enough butter. Maybe you should wake your squad up.

Or maybe not. You see something move in a cove across the beach from you. It looked green and slimy. You could go and scout it out, just to give your friends a little bit more rest, if you wanted.

Quick Question: How Monster Hunter is this going to be? Just set in the world, or are you planning on going full on "Gather Everything, it's all useful, Haha, bet you never thought you could make weapons out of a Pumpkin?"
>>
>>27030504
Just in the world, I also plan on adding and exploring things not mentioned in the game. I want this to be less of a fanfiction game copycat and more of an origional story. It'll still be Monster Hunter, but it's not gonna be slaying the same monsters you see in the games.

Also the pumpkin weapon is the Halloween special

You step over your collapsed bowgun and other various tools you and your team brought on the trip. The sand feels good on your bare feet, warm and soft. You tap Ruby on the shoulder. She slowly opens her eyes up and smiles. You give her your hand, and help her unto her feet.

“Thanks Keane. What did I miss?”

“I killed a few hundred baroths, no big deal or anything.”

“Yeah right.” She kicks Mordecai in the stomach mid snore, who grunts and jumps unto his feet.

“You mother fuckers. I was having the best god damn dream of my entire life. I had wings like a bird, and I was soaring through the sky. Down below me I could see valleys and streams and canyons and trees. It was beautiful, more beautiful than anything I’ve ever seen in my entire god damn life.”

“Sounds nice hun.” Ruby says, before giving him his trousers.

He grumbles angrily and scratches his thick head, but he takes the pants and then slowly slides them on. He’s a big guy, towering over you by at least a few inches. And you’re almost six feet tall. As soon as he gets his pants on he grabs a pitcher of wine he brought with him and swallows a mouthful. It’s not even ten o’clock.

You hear a roar from across the beach.

You jump over to your belongings, and quickly slap on whatever armor you brought. You made sure it was lightweight, in case you’d get forced into the water. You bowgun would become useless underwater, but at least you’d be able to swim away if worst came to worse. You get your armor on before any of your friends and start to run.

“I’ll check it out, you guys okay?”

“Yeah we’ll be there, you check that shit out.” Mordecai says, sliding a massive breastplate over his head.

You grab your blowgun and head over to the call. After a few hundred feet, you run into a rock wall, and you crouch next to it, making sure that you aren’t out in the open. A charging ludroth is not something to mess with, even with armor on. You pear past the outcropping.

A few slimy lizard like creatures are crawling all over each other, and the sound of scales rubbing is audible over the incoming surf. The group of ludroth seem to be feeding on a fish. A big fish, at least as tall as you. They probably pulled it up from out of the ocean. Nasty creatures. All of them appear to be about four feet in length, and they all probably weigh about 200 lbs. They aren’t too intimidating from a distance, but you’d hate to fight them up close.

Avery appears behind you first, dragging his massive blade in the sand. Out of the four of you, he wears the least amount of armor, but his sword is much too large for him to carry. You’ve always told him he’d be better suited for a smaller sword, but he treasures that huge blade.

He huffs and puffs.

“Alright Avery, it looks like theres about four of them. I might be able to distract them with a few shots, but as soon as I hit one they’ll know where we are. I might be able to kill one or two if I hit them right in the eyes.”

He nods.

“I can slice the other two in half no problem. Is that the plan?”

Alright guys, time to talk about rolls for attack

If you want to use a specific ammo, that needs to be decided now. Heres a quick list of ammo you have:
Regular Pellet x 25
Flame Pellet x 5
Shock Pellet x 5
Paint Pellet x 1
Sleep Pellet x 1

Also choose where you plan on attacking
>Aim for one of their heads
>Aim wherever you're guaranteed a hit
>Aim behind them to (hopefully) create a distraction
>Or my choice
>Other

Sorry if this is confusing, I just want to give you guys plenty of options
>>
>>27031205
Flame pellet, right in the middle. Get as many of them as possible.
>>
>>27031205
Regular Pellets will give no modifier, and all other pellets will have an effect roll.

Paint pellets will stun a creature and then mark it for whatever reason. The paint will wash off in the water, but will leave a trail used for tracking

>Success

You flip your bowgun out, and the machine clicks itself into place, parts sliding around until it unfolds completely. You grab a pellet and slide it into the chamber before looking down the scope. It takes two seconds before the pile of lizards is in your view. You take a second to observe them, noting their movements, predicting what they might do next.

“Avery, on my mark get ready to fight. Is Ruby close?”

“Yeah, her and Mordecai are just around the corner.”

“Alright. Are they ready to fight?”

“Yeah, it looks like it. Although I don’t think Mordecai is drunk enough yet.”

You hold back a laugh. Maybe he isn’t such a broody guy after all.

“3.”

You locate the center of the lizard pile, a place where you’re sure to get a hit.

“2.”

The sound of Mordecai and Ruby’s clanking armor is getting closer and you notice one of the ludroth turn its head towards your direction. Too late little guy.

“Go!”

You pull the trigger and you gun lets out a click as a bullet fires out directly at the middle of the pile. You watch through the scope as the bullet slams directly into one ludroth, causing it to topple over another. Both are obviously stunned for the moment, but you can see anger forming in the other two lizards. They know where you shot from, and they are on their way. Mordecai and Ruby are right next to you, and Mordecai is huffing and puffing. Avery has already started running towards the biggest lizard.

Reaching into your pocket, you hear a loud grunt, and turn your sights to see Mordecai smacking a ludroth off of him, before falling unto his ass. The reptile springs at him, but Ruby thrusts her lance at the beast and impales the creature through its mouth. It slides down her weapon before coming to a sickening stop. She lowers he weapon and tries to pull it out while Mordecai gets back up and starts his charge at the dazed lizards.

You turn your sights to Avery, who is holding up his sword in a defensive stance, trying to keep the biggest ludroth from biting his arm off. You’re still loading the shot, but before you can get it in, Avery rolls off to the side and the ludroth jumps past him. He swings his sword left to right while backing up towards the cliff wall.

You aim towards the ludroth and wait until its movement become fairly regular. You lead your shot a bit, and luckily for you you’re a crack shot. You pull the trigger.

The shot strikes the ludroth in the leg. It stops its charge in pain and that gives Avery the chance to bring his sword down on top of it. You hear the sound of the blade cutting through the lizard and hitting the sand below. Two down, two to go.

You look over at Mordecai and see two ludroth surrounding him, both hissing angrily. Ruby has started running towards his direction, but it’s quite the distance away. Avery is still pulling his sword out of his kill.

You aim at the ludroth slowly circling towards Mordecai’s rear. Ludroth are much more cleverthan they appear, and two of them can easily overwhelm an unprepared hunter. Mordecai’s not unprepared but he is a little drunk. At 6:30 in the morning. He grabs his hammer and lifts it above his head, leaving himself wide open for an attack. But before the lizard behind him can strike, you fire.

Your pellet strikes the ludroth on the side, sending it curling over. You didn’t really do much damage to it, but at least it’s not going to bite Mordecai’s head off.

Mordecai drops his hammer on the other jumping ludroth, smashing it into the ground. He slowly lifts his hammer up for another attack, but before he can the lizard spins around and starts running away. The one that you shot isn’t moving, it’s possible you killed it, or at the very least crippled it badly.

Mordecai shouts after the lizard.

You load in another bullet, and aim at the retreating lizard. You’ve been pretty spot on so far, but you don’t want to get to comfy with your shots. You hold your breath as you aim a few feet in front of the ludroth, only feet away from the water. You fire a bullet.

Unluckily, your shot zooms right above the creatures head as it dives into the water. You curse under your breath and Mordecai stands at the shoreline shouting at the lizard.

“Get back here you mother fucker! You fucking piece of shit! I’ll kill you!”

That’s disappointing. But at least you got one of them.

You unlatch your bowgun, and it begins folding up into its carrying mode. After a few seconds, you strap the compressed weapon on your back and close you ammunition bag, double checking to make sure that none of your ammo has fallen out. Avery is already skinning his ludroth, making sure to pull anything useful out of it. Ruby is also taking the time to harvest her kill. Mordecai seems unhappy to not have a dead ludroth in his name to skin.

You approach the ludroth you shot, expecting it to be dead, but when you get near it you are surprised to hear it whimpering. Apparently you didn’t kill it. Ludroth skins are worth a lot on the market, but a live ludroth is worth exponentially more. You don’t really have anything to restrain it with though.

You stare at the creature, unsure of what to do about it. You really want to capture it alive, its worth so much more alive. But you aren’t entirely sure how. You run your hands over your pockets, and then the idea strikes you. You grab your sleep pellet out.

“Keane what the hell are you doing? Skin that piece of shit and let’s get out of here!”

Mordecai lumbers over to you, but stops once he sees that the ludroth is still alive. He slowly reaches behind his back to draw his hammer.

“Put your hammer back. I have an idea.”

At this point, you have the attention of your entire group. Ruby and Avery are both bloodstained form their recent conquests, and wear smug smiles on their faces. Ruby is the first to ask.

“So…what are you doing? Exactly?”

“I’m going to use the sleep powder concoction from inside the sleep pellet to knockout this ludroth. Once its knocked out we can better secure it, and then we can sell it. Alive.”

Mordecai looks down before grabbing a bottle from his bag. He drinks it as you stab the sleep knife into the wounded ludroth’s side. It struggles at first, but eventually it comes to a stop. You place your hand against its chest, and you feel the bumping of its lizard organs. They’re slow, but still alive. Consider it out cold for at least four hours with the dose you gave it.

“Keane, that’s great and all, but what about that last ludroth? Our job is to get rid of them, and it’s great to get one alive, but still. We can’t go back until we get that last lizard.”

You look at Ruby. While it’s true that you were sent to remove the ludroth threat in its entirety, you know that a lone injured ludroth will be tough to find. And spending your entire day searching for it could result in your capture escaping.

“That piece of shit is as good as dead!” Mordecai barks, finally removing his mouth from his bottle. “I crushed its damn skull! If it isn’t dead already it will be in an hour.”

How far away is the town? If it's not too far, I'd say we split the party and have two drag the live one back to town and other pair hunt down the last one.
>>
>>27033070
>Search for the last one
Hunter honor man.
>>
>>27033107
You guys could do this if you want. You'd have to choose who went where though
>>
>>27033070
Leave somebody standing on hand to put the creature out of it's misery if it wakes up and tries to escape, the other three can go track the one that got away.

We should probably be the one to stay behind since we can hit from afar.
>>
>>27033070
Send the slow people back to the beach with the ludroth, you and the non-slow people will track down the other ludroth.

What happened to the quality, OP?
>>
>>27033147
Ok, then Ruby and us hunt down the last one and the other two drag the live one back to town.
>>
>>27033070
How far is the town? If its not to far, we could probably do a search for an hour and if nothing comes up, leave back with our live capture
>>
>>27033195
>>27033107
The town is a two hour walk from your location. If you want you could all hunt for an hour and then if no trail pops up you could send somebody back with the captured ludroth.

>>27033158
There never was quality
>>
>>27033249
Yes there was, but it's gone now, try harder.
>>
Splitting the party seems Mike a good idead
>>
>>27033249
Alright guys I guess the consensus is to split up, but who are you going to split up with?

The best way would be too split into groups of two, because one person carrying a live monster getting ambushed could be fatal

>Avery
>Ruby
>Mordecai
>>
>>27033337
Seems like a good idea*
>>
>>27033343
Lets go with mordecai to hunt the last one, he needs a kill still.
>>
Groups of two, Avery and Mordecai go to the town, Me and Ruby hunt for the escaped onde.

I think you should definitely troll us with Quarapecu.

You look at your three companions in silence, with the sound of waves crashing down all around you. You believe yourself to be a good man, and honest man, and lying about the completion of a job is something you aren’t going to let happen, especially not on a hunt where you captured a live ludroth. You do have a little bit of honor in you. A plan springs into your mind.

“We should split up.”

Avery nods his head in approval of the idea, but Mordecai and Ruby seem somewhat against it. Especially Ruby.

“No. That’s reckless and stupid. You just need to swallow your pride and kill that ludroth.”

Ouch. Avery speaks up on your behalf.

“I think he’s right. We can cover more ground if we split up.”

“Is that what you meant Keane?” Ruby is looking at you with disgust. “Or were you planning on having yourself go home with your prize while the rest of use hunt for some runt?”

“No, that’s not what I meant-“

“I think that’s a fucking good idea.”

You turn and look at Mordecai, a little shocked that he’s agreeing with you.

“Me and Keane here can hunt it. You two go take that lizard home, we need some male bonding. We haven’t even got to know each other, right Keane?”
>>
>>27033528
He slaps his hand on your back in a friendly way. Ruby smirks, but grabs the ludroth by its tail.

“Alright, whatever. Avery, grab this thing.”

Avery silently grabs the lizards and starts off with Ruby. He turns to you and nods, before they walk out of earshot.

“Bitches man.”

ACTION

“Alright bud. What’s the plan?”

You haven’t really thought of a plan yet. The ludroth went into the water to escape you, but as injured as it is you don’t think it’ll stay in there for long. Most likely, it came up on shore to rest. But where, you cannot be sure.

“You said you hit it on the head right?”

“Of course. Always smash the brain, that’s what my mom taught me.”

You and Mordecai begin walking across the soft sand of the beach, not really sure where you’re heading. You’re lost in thought, and Mordecai is lost in the bottle.

“Why’d you agree to this Mordecai?”

He gulps down some of his rum before burping loudly. He is quite a man.

“Well I have to kill at least one of them, right? And the less people we have hunting after it, the more of a chance we’ll have to find it, ya know? I just want to kill that little fucker.”

“Right.”

He finishes his bottle as the two of you walk, and then he pulls out another. How much can this man drink? You hope that this doesn’t mess with his coherency.

But it doesn’t and he spots it before you do. You were too lost in your own head for it.

“Ken my boy, look at that shit! Fuck me!”

It takes a moment, but then you see what he was talking about. The scaly body of a torn up ludroth lays motionless on the beach. It doesn’t look like it died from a hammer to the skull.

Something else got to it.

Something bigger.

And that is where I will end.

I think we should have been closer to starting out and happened into a group or something. Whether it had been other beginners, intermediates, or veterans. Just dashing out with a weapon as complicated as a bowgun left a bad taste in my mouth.

Otherwise, you seem to be doing a good job, though your spacing for conversation vs action could be better. It's a bit hard to read.

Welcome to monster hunter, where you master any weapon as soon as you get your hands on it.
