We can give a quick rundown, though, from the point of view of a normal person, and the point of view of our protagonist.

The Nasuverse works pretty much the same way the Potter setting does for normal people. It's the modern day world. There's monsters and magic and vampires and stuff but no one really knows about it. People who find out about it do not get to keep living for a long time.

The Mage's association and Catholic church are involved in keeping these secrets. Getting on either group's shitlist is a fantastically terrible idea, even for powerful beings.

Someone who does magic (like our protagonist, Ilya, her family, etc.) is called a magus. Little 'm' magic, or magecraft. It works by different rules than the Potter magic, but there's some similarities.

There's also 'big M' Magic. This is stuff that can't be replicated by effort, money, time spent working, without Magic. If you can make a brick wall appear out of nowhere, congratulations, that's a pretty impressive magecraft, but people can make bricks and construct a wall out of them, so that's not actually Magic. There's five Magics, but people aren't entirely sure what they all can do, and they don't all have living users. Harry's met the wielder of one of them, Zelretch, who can use the 2nd Magic- Kaleidoscope. It messes with moving things between parallel realities, and getting glimpse of it messed with poor Harry's head a bit.

We haven't seen much in the ways of vampires or the church yet, so that's not quite as immediately relevant.

True creation of permanent stuff is Magic territory. Projection is a skill that magi call worthless because they're idiots, and it allows you to make extremely temporary objects out of mana. Shirou kinda does something else, where he's basically reaching into his Reality Marble and grabbing swords and shit.

His "projection" is a bit different in that they'll pretty much last as long as he can focus on them, but getting them damaged by fighting ancient heroes tends to ruin them.

The issue in HF is that he's changed too much to use ARCHER'S Reality Marble properly. His own UBW works, it's just too different from the UBW in Archer's arm, and they conflict with each other because of it.

So long as he's yanking swords out of himself, he's still accessing his Reality Marble. Otherwise, he would not (under any circumstances) be able to pull out Noble Phantasms.

As I understand it from somebody else explaining it on some other forum Shirou has two ways of producing the swords
A) tracing them wherein he uses the blueprints stored in his marble to make a perfect copy of the sword made of prana. This is time and magic intensive but lasts far longer and is not as readily rejected.
B) just flat out pulling a copy from the marble into Gaia. This is far less time and prana intensive but causes a rank down for the good stuff and it immediately gets flagged for termination with extreme prejudice.
