What's good? I'm Ember, kick-artist and part-time grappler, and this is what's good:Nothing much, unfortunately. I've just transferred into the continent wide megacity - you know, *The* City - in search of my big sister, Ashley, who I thought was long gone. I'm running off a scholarship to a pretty serious place called White Wing Academy. Like everywhere else in the city, it's just as combat-mad as the rest of the city... so I fit right in, or I would, were I not apparently set on making an idiot out of myself. First getting slapped by my knockout roommate for not laying off flirting with her, then nearly committing social suicide by breaking the submission rule... so things are pretty shit for me right now.Meilang catches up as I slink out into the courtyard, away from the glares of the students gathering for classes. Not surprising, since I'm still wearing her jacket for modesty. For a few moments, she just walks beside me, but then she takes my hand and drags me off the beaten path. "Come here." Since I've beaten her into the ground already and I'm more than willing to do it again, there's no real reason not to let her... she pulls me behind the school buildings, where the foliage runs free, through the bushes, and... to a small, burbling stream. She sits down on the grass and motions for me to do the same.Sure. Why not."So? What the hell was that?" she asks me.>None of your business is what.>Bad day, blew my top, was stupid.>That was me not being constrained by your shitty rules.
>>26955959> Bad day, blew my top, was stupid.
>>26955959>>Bad day, blew my top, was stupid. That about covers it, I think. No need to give her lip, especially since she seems our only ally right now.
>Not sure if huge katana or tiny girl
>>26956012Huge katana on a tiny girl.
>>26955959> dem headphones>Bad day, blew my top, was stupid.
>>26955959>Bad day, blew my top, was stupid.
>>26956025Replace her shoes with rollerblades and I could assure you that she will soon UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF LOVE.
>"Bad day, blew my top, was stupid."I sum it up for her. Meilang rubs at the bridge of her nose. "Man I was just fucking with you when you stormed down the hall. Sorry. ... still, you're gonna have to do something to make up for it. Even if Storm is saying for people to lay off...""I got that." I tell her drily. Thinking of it, I hand her back her jacket, which she takes, but she lays it out on the grass and flops back on it, tucking her hands behind her head."Look, babe. I suggest you start with an apology. That goes a long way. On the other hand, if you want to blow some people up to get over it, I have a fun idea in mind.">Go and apologise to people.>Hear her out.
>>26956118Hear her out. Can we do that while we're going to apologize to Jean?
>>26956118> babeIs she a black woman full of SOUL?
not sure who was there at the end of the last thread so I'll just put this down here again. We (or me and someone else at least) figured that MC has more than a few problems. The ones I remember off the top of my head are survivors-guilt from living through that crash with her family, and that's going to be an old scar that just got ripped open because her sister is actually alive. An inferiority-complex with her sister, inferiority complexes actually can look like superiority complexes until you start digging.Self-loathing that is most likely at the center of the inferiority-complex (also fits with the survivors-guilt).Loneliness, she's been without her family for a very long time.Harsh self-standards she makes herself live up to because of wanting to point of needing to live up to her sister's legend. And feeling of impotence, the only clean fight we've actually won is that first one we fought. All the other's we either lost or just don't count (the gang fight wasn't our fight). Also our roommate... I think we agreed she was being far to vague so the slap, while understandable, was unwarrantedAnd some also complained that only a minority voted for the conditional release from that hold we had her in last thread and the majority wanted to let her go. I didn't look myself that was just what some people were complaining about.
>>26956156You forgot to list being gay.I kid, I kid, please don't hurt me.
>>26956118> Hear her out.In this situation I wouldn't mind apologizing so much but I'd still like to avoid it until it had cooled down some.
>>26956118Hear her out, we can decide later on when we've cooled a little and won't spill /quite/ as much pasta.inb4 WRONG CHOICE and any chance at reconciliation with at least one of them lost.> giving your QM ideas// I know.
I always miss the QMs updates in this quest because I scan through and think that he's just the namefag Captain Middle of the Road Brutus making his regular longish posts, and skip them.Bah.
>>26956204We can always reject her idea. Unless it includes fireworks that spell out apologies. Or stealing a truck filled with candy and teddy bears. Or both.
>>26956171That made me facepalm and laugh at the same time.Besides I don't think it will be the gay part that will get us in trouble so much as the thick head part.
>>26956118>Hear her out.Listen to her. And also we REAL need to control our libido.
>>26956213> VEHICLE-BASED COMBAT> HIGH-RISK DRIVE-BY TAKEOVERS> IMPOSSIBLE STUNTS ON MOVING CARSWell, it's called Fatal /Streets/ after all, right?>>26956218The problem is that Blaze acts like a master pickup artist while having, and I quote "the charm of a turtle".
Mostly what pisses me off is that the QM seems to find it all our fault with no possibility he may or may not have fucked up at some parts. Regardless, once more into the breech.
>>26956243Ah. Now that I'm actually looking at it... "charm of the turtle" indeed. Combine that with the thick head that hints seem to bounce off of... we really should have gotten that social app.
>>26956243Charm is really dependent on person, not the line. Different people shooting the same line has different effects, it has just been decided that we apparently have no game,I guess.
>>26956290The last paragraph in the wall o' text has something on that actually. Specifically on the last vote from last thread.
>>26956322You talking about the shitty rules thing? Because I am not sure how that one fits.
>>26956303Maybe we should refine our mind into steel…
>Hear her out."Alright, here's what's going on. White Wing has a rival school, Blue Wing, and yes, it's a stupid name." she cuts me off even before I open my mouth. "They have this real bad habit of trying to fuck around with us, and Storm's been going on for a while about giving a little back. School's only a short trip from here; it would be trivial to barge in and wreak havoc for a bit. Wanna?"Now that's an idea I can get behind. Having said that, there is still that stuff to deal with on the home front.>"I'm in.">"Sorry, I have other things to do."
>>26956393"I'm in, but can this wait a bit? There's something I'd like to do first."
>>26956331>And some also complained that only a minority voted for the conditional release from that hold we had her in last thread and the majority wanted to let her go. I didn't look myself that was just what some people were complaining about.
>>26956393Ok we are in but we like to gather info before we storm in their school.
>>26956393Let's do it.
>>26956451Oh that block of text. But thats not the QM admitting anything, is it?
Damn, here I was wondering where did this quest go. >>26956393>>"I'm in."Fukken obviously. Let's go wreck some cunts. assuming we've gotten back our stamina from the last fight.
>"I'm in, but I want to scout around first. And change.""Sure." Meilang stands up and dusts herself off. "Meet me by the gates when you're ready, okay?"... it takes me a bit to work up the courage to go back into my room to change. The door's been unlocked, but when I go in, the lounge and all has been completely cleaned of Jean's presence. There is, however, a post-it note on her door: "FRIDGE". I take a look out of curiosity; there's a still-in-its-packaging off-the-shelf small chocolate cake with another post-it note on it. This one reads "Sorry I slapped you and called you a siscon. Stop flirting at me. -Jean", which pretty much makes it clear. I do still need to ask her why I woke up with her sitting on me, but that can wait until later.Freshly-changed, I get moving asking around about Blue Wing. A lot of the students are pretty hostile at first, but when they get an explanation as to why I'm asking, they get pretty helpful - looks like old bad blood trumps new bad blood, or maybe Storm's pull really is that much. Turns out Blue Wing's setup is much the same as White Wing's, although their school is more open plan, set amongst a botanical garden not far from here. They have prefects, too, but the one to beat is Yang Long, who keeps on organizing the raids on White Wing. Taking her down should make things more peaceful around here. Apparently she's a spearfighter, but her grasp on her chi is pretty good, too.>Ready to go.>Still got things to do?
>>26956393>White Wing>Blue WingIs there a Red Wing?
>>26956487No. But like I said I neven looked at the votes myself so... well, who knows what the vote was supposed to have been.
All these armed fuckers. How the hell can we go against a spear barehanded?>>26956611>>Ready to go.Whatever, let's go wreck someone.
>>26956651Well I went back and counted it.
>>26956664We have the crowbar.>>26956668Okay. And? What was the count?
>>26956611Is Meilang with us?If she is, tell her to guard our back while we go deal with this chick, in case some of her cronies decide to jump us.
>>26956690How do you hope to protect yourself from a stabbing attack with a crowbar?
>>26956668Yeah, that was a pure miscount on my part. Sorry. When I was writing the post, I saw a huge deluge in the "make her our bitch" votes and rolled with it.
>>26956690see>>26956719Also its fine, we make mistakes. I just want some recognition that its not all on us, is all.
>>26956611>Still got things to do?If we are gonna deal with spearfighter, it is maybe good idea to have some form of shield or metal gauntlet to block the spear attack.Fighting against arming fighter require greater skills while fighting unarmed.
>>26956769You know, we should see if it's possible to somehow pimp out our gloves or something with some plates.Maybe begin carrying light armor under some baggy clothes, or throw in some hidden weapons.
>>26956825We should get some forearm armour. Gauntlets are our treasure and I'd rather keep the light.
Aww, she gave us chocolate. Sure she's not gonna be our lover but… maybe we can still befriend her.
>>26956611Could we try finding something to protect ourselves against a blade? if not, LETS GO.
>About those gloves...... believe it or not, finding some forearm guards to go with them is actually easy. The school does have an armory - mostly for training purposes, but nobody complains when I rip off a couple of armguards. They aren't fancy and they don't fit perfectly, but they'll do for this fight. In theory I could take any of the weapons in here, but I'd be completely shit with them - I've never liked fighting with a weapon that wasn't improvised in hand; doesn't feel natural.>Time to get going.>Still got things to do?
>>26956965Lets do this.
>>26956965Find some leg guards as well, we're a kicker after all. Then let's do this.
>>26956965>>leg guardsWhile there. After that, go. Could wreck some faces when there to get used to our new armour.
>>26956980changing to what they say>>26956995>>26957011
>Leg guards too. Not a problem.Freshly equipped, I make my way out to speak to Meilang. She's lounging at the gate, noisily chewing gum, although she does at least offer me some - which I turn down. Gum is icky. I honestly don't know where I picked up that feeling from, but I've never been able to stand it. Maybe someone stuck gum in my hair as a kid. Who knows. Meilang whistles briefly at the new hardware. "Not bad.""Chick in charge is a spearfighter; might be a good idea. The crowbar's cute but I'd prefer to be able to just straight up block her.""It's actually a naginata -""And fuck you too Kneesy." I pat her shoulder in passing. "Let's go."It's not a long trip, really, only forty minutes or so. The route meanders along the river, oddly-scenic when you frame it against the ultra-urban background, and we eventually come to a small shrine-looking thing set on a bridge over the river, just beyond the school gates. There's nobody guarding the gates themselves, but the little building is probably a guardhouse; Meilang stops me at the edge, so we just lean around the corner like Scooby and Shaggy. "There's usually two or three guys inside, and it's a sheer wall so we can't just take a dip in the river. What do you want to do?">Lure them out with a distraction.>Sneak in and disable them quietly.>Kick in the door and Wreck Stuff.
>>26956965Can we scribble something to Jean? We owe her an apology too.
>>26957112>Sneak in and disable them quietlyThe least people remember us, the better.
>>26957112>>Sneak in and disable them quietly.Always start with stealth and secure a retreat.
>>26957112>Sneaky, sneaky. We are going to epicly fail at this, aren't we?
>>26957112We gon' sneak that shit.
>>26957112>Sneak in and disable them quietly.Time for Metal Gear Solid style!
>>26957115Suggestion: She's the bookish kind so perhaps alongside the apology we should write a detailed battle report to give her an idea of how well her soup worked? The only problem is time and Blaze's own intelligence I guess.Remember, we ended up doing what she wanted us to do anyways: Get into a fight and use a lot of Chi. We owe her our victory. >>26956928Yea, let's see if we can't get through to her. Living there at her sufferance and just avoiding each other seems a shitty way to let this end.
>>26957212We could always steal some books from Blue Wing for her. This chick we're about to beat up is a chi expert, they probably have some good stuff in there.
>>26957188This isn't Bleach Quest where every single attempt at stealth has critfailed for over thirty threads.
>>26957212Or we could take her with us on our next fight so she can see everything for herself. That was what she wanted to do before the whole slap incident.
>>26957212I think we could try. Write the report the best we can(which likely aint good) and apologise as well.
>Sneak in and disable them quietly."Wait here," I add, and start my move. I really have a few options here...>Vault the railing and shimmy along the side of the bridge.>Use the railing to springboard onto the roof and get in from behind.>Skulk up and slip in the front door.
>>26957298> Use the railing to springboard onto the roof and get in from behind.
>>26957298>>Use the railing to springboard onto the roof and get in from behind.Eh, why not.
>>26957298>>Use the railing to springboard onto the roof and get in from behind.
>>26957298>OtherImprovise a grappling hook with our crowbar and rope and use that to climb onto the roof
>>26957298Isn't our sneaky kit done just for this? Use that whenever possible.
>Use the railing to springboard onto the roof.I take a breath and launch myself along the bridge. Before I'm even fully halfway across, I leap up onto the railing, take two steps - make sure my feet are under me - and leap up, mantling the edge of the roof and rolling onto my back to quickly clear my legs from the little window. There's a couple of muffled sounds from inside - I did make some noise - and I can almost feel, rather than hear, the two occupants moving towards the front to take a look out.>Slip in the back.>Swing down and through the window to surprise them.
>>26957386Slip in the back.
>>26957386>Slip in the back.MAXIMUM SNEAK
>>26957386Slip in the back. Try to be as sneaky ninja as possible.
>>26957386>>Slip in the back.
>>26957386>>Slip in the back.We have committed.
>>26957254She isn't the fighty type, so she wouldn't like to be in the shit.
>>26957500She wanted to arrange a fight for us so she could see what was up with us. This would be the same.
>Slip in the back.I skulk over the roof - the gatehouse is pretty far away from the actual courtyard, so it doesn't look like too many students are in range - and slide off. The back door is unlocked, so I sneak in that way. The gatehouse, inside, is pretty standard - table and a couple of chairs - but both of its occupants, tall, burly guys obviously picked for their muscle rather than their skill, are facing away from me, one at the door, ready to defend it from entry, and the other peering out the window. Unfortunately, they're close enough together that I can't just drag one off...>Kick him through the window!>Crowbar one, fight the other.
>>26957529>>Kick him through the window!Fly chimpy, fly.
>>26957529>Kick him through the window! But please tell me we are still going by anime physics and he'll have a comically large fall but not fucking die.
>>26957529Crowbar one, fight the other.>>26957555This. Let's not murder some dude.
>>26957555Still anime physics.

>>26957562Then let hillarity ensue! Also nice to see more from you outside of posting the next segment of the quest.
>>26957529We need to be sneaky, guys!Crowbar one, kick one the other trough windo- No, wait, that's just taking both.
>Kick him!I move fast, quickly shuffling into a side on stance and throwing my weight into a vicious kick. It lands square between the target's shoulderblades and the sound of shattering glass fills the air as he's smashed straight through the window. He barely has time to yell before he smashes into the water below. I already have both feet on the ground before his buddy's able to react, and he comes at me with a big meaty overhand swipe.>Dodge and counter.>Stopkick him and go for the door.>Duck in and grapple him.
>>26957730>Duck in and grapple him. With additon of throwing him out the window!
>>26957730>>Dodge and counter. We the speedy type. Smash his fucking face in.
>>26957730Dodge and counter. Preferably a kick to the face that sends him out the window.
>>26957730Dodge and grapple! Out the window fatty.
>>26957730Dodge and counter.
Rolled 1Calculating tiebreak...
>>26957917>Dodge and counter. (right before the tiebreak post, damn you.)I slip away from him, turning into his body, just like always, and just like always, his blow whistles past. I raise my leg and drive my heel into his chest, setting him staggering backwards - which is right when the door opens. He staggers straight back into Meilang, who eagerly wraps her arms around his waist, braces her legs, and arches her back like a bow, bringing him over her in a perfectly-executed german suplex. He lands shoulders-first on the stone bridge and she's quick to release him, bounding back to her feet; he doesn't move again. Meilang grins. "Now what?">Wait to see if anyone comes looking.>Charge!
>>26957972Wait to see if anyone comes looking and ambush. Gotta continue being sneaky!
>>26957972>>Charge!Before the fuckers wake and block our escape path.
>>26957972Hi-fives for Kneesy, then we continue being SNEAKY.
>>26957972> Wait to see if anyone comes looking. We got their attention, let's plan something nasty. Like dropping this fat bastard on them.
>>26957972My shadowruns are tingling, let's CHARGE before our cover is blown.
>Wait to see if anyone comes.I beckon to Meilang and we take up positions either side of the back door, surreptitiously glancing out. It looks like nobody noticed... but then who should come out but Yang Long herself, with five or ten Blue Wings behind her. The uniform, come to think of it, is much like the White Wing uniform, although it prioritizes a royal blue rather than the pure white of our own. Looks like we caught her just as she was on her way to come and catch us. Perfect.>Step out and challenge her openly.>Ambush her from the gatehouse.
>>26958155Ambush, baby. We're outnumbered, we'll fight dirty.
>>26958155>>Step out and challenge her openly. We're not ambushing all 11 of them..
>>26958155>>Step out and challenge her openly.fuck ambushing that many.
>>26958155Challenger appears! Fight!
>Challenge her openly.I give Meilang the nod, and we both step out, barring off the path to the gatehouse. Yang Long and her posse stop, as if sizing us up, and I take the opportunity to give the challenge."Turns out you guys screwed around with White Wing once too often. This time we're bringing the party to you.""Is that so?" Long shifts, resting her weapon over her back. So it wasn't a spear. It's a glaive. Faulty information-giving motherfuckers... "Take the other one. The fiery one is mine." I give her another nod, and Meilang starts tracking sideways, helping to keep the goons out of the fight. Just me and the boss.Just the way I like it.>Take the initiative and charge her.>Wait for her attack, and counter.>Fall back into the gatehouse.
>>26958486How long is that naginata? What are the conditions like in the gate house?
>>26958486>>Fall back into the gatehouse. She can't swing her glaive in tight quarters
>>26958511About six feet all up. Gatehouse is pretty cramped and sparse, just a couple of chairs and a table.
>>26958486Fall back to the gatehouse. We'll have the upper hand there. Also, infuriate her by hitting on her.
>>26958540Lets get the fuck in that Gatehouse. And Jackie Chan it up with that table.
>>26958541>Also, infuriate her by hitting on heShit, this. If she's hot, we hit on her.
>>26958486>Fall back into the gatehouse.Time for Jackie Chan style.
>Fall back to the gatehouse. Also...I give ground when she makes her first swing, ducking back into the gatehouse proper - and with a completely improper remark on my lips. "This way, cutie, I want you close to me." I can hear Meilang let out a vocalized eye-roll but I push that out of my mind, dancing back even further as Long follows me with a sharp thrust. She doesn't seem especially daunted by being in close quarters, although her stance is obviously restricted by the close walls - she really doesn't have room to swing her blade in here. That said, she doesn't seem too fazed by the compliment/taunt/whatever that was, either.Time to go to work.>Bait her into attacking and counter.>Go on the offensive.>Back up to put the table between us.
>>26958709>>Bait her into attacking and counter.Let her have the opening move.
>>26958709>Bait her into attacking and counter.Keep the compliments up as long as we can.
>>26958709> Back up to put the table between us.Flip the table over so that her glaive gets stuck in it, then break the handle. If possible. Also, keep hitting on her.Keep in mind that this chick is a chi expert, no need to rush in before we see what's she capable of.
>>26958709Put a table between us. Gotta see what that chi power is.
>>26958825>>26958786>>26958737>>26958735Can we combine these?
>>26958709>Back up to put the table between us.We should play defensive for now until she display her chi powers.
>Put the table between us and bait her into attacking.I step back further, actually rolling back over the table - it's the quickest way to get my feet on the floor on the other side of it. "You gonna use those lovely long legs or are you gonna stay over there?" This one, I don't have to feel bad about being flirty with. Long smiles faintly and advances. Just one step. Then the glaive comes crashing down overhead. Slight miscalculation: the gatehouse is *narrow* enough to restrict her, but she can still slash overhand and stab just fine. I flinch sideways from the blow - she cuts the table clean in half - but in the next instead she takes another step, scrapes the blade against the stone floor and kicks up a slurry of sparks that flash into my eyes, dazzling me.Shit.>Move back further, just in case.>Advance deeper in.>Hold ground and block her next strike.
>>26958929Get in there and fuck her up.Unless her chi power is altering the size of her glaive, in which case we're screwed.
>>26958929>>Move back further, just in case.
>>26958929We need to get close enough to see if she's any good at using her hands, overhand and stab aren't exactly great when we're punching her.Can we turn on Dragon's breath and try for a OHKO strike to the stomach from here?
>>26958929>>Advance deeper in.You do NOT move away from a polearm like that half blind.
>>26958997Sure, why not.
>>26959052I assume this is somewhat common knowledge, but can one "feel" someone activating a Chi power?
>>26959078I assume that'd require a power of some sorts. Maybe we should ask Jean once we're good with her again.
>>26959078Yeah. Maybe most people can't, but Ember can.
>>26959168Hrm.Well no one is voting with me, so we're advancing for now.
>>26959209We must go deeper.sunglasses,jpg
>Advance deeper in.I push in immediately, desperately blinking away the spots dancing in my eyes. This one turns out to be a good move - she must have attacked again, because the haft of the glaive thuds into my shoulder. It hurts, but it's not dangerous... yet. With my vision clearing, I find us face to face. Long is even smiling a little. "Oho... it seems like Storm sent someone with talent this time.""And I'm a good fighter, too." I return, smirking faintly. Her smile almost reaches her eyes. Then she twists the glaive, so that the blade lies flat, and jerks backwards, threatening to take it straight along my neck ->Twist away, then kick.>Move with her and grapple her.
>>26959379Move with her and grapple her.
>>26959379>>Move with her and grapple her.Ground game ho
>>26959379>>Move with her and grapple her.seems safest and smartest
>>26959379>Move with her and grapple her.Keep on with infighting style, we can't let her take advantage of her long glaive.
>Move with her and grapple her.I step into the space she retreats from, stopping her from giving me a new smile, quickly circle my arms around her head to control it and I'm just in the middle of moving to bring my knee up into her ribs when she suddenly twists the glaive across the back of my neck - like she's yoking me - and does almost the exact same thing. Her bare knee smacks into my thigh and stuffs my shot, and then a moment later she's stepping in even closer to bring the other up like a piston, straight at my gut ->Sway with it to minimize damage.>Lose the grapple and block with both hands.>Bullrush her backwards.
>>26959539>>Bullrush her backwards.Down girl
>>26959539>>Bullrush her backwards.C'mon baby
>>26959539>Bullrush her backwards.Slam against her into the wall!
>Bullrush her backwards.I shove her hard and step with her all the way, making her overbalance - she'd fall over, but I shove her back through the open door, and the glaive locks in the doorframe and stops her from falling.Which is fine, because it means I can turn all that momentum into a flying knee instead. The doorframe turns to splinters as the glaive tears through it - I duck, fortunately, so the same doesn't happen to me - and Long hits the ground hard; her weapon clatters away on the cobblestones."You look good down there.""Don't get used to it." Long is back on her feet almost instantly, and she rolls her shoulder, setting the tattoo coiling... the sensation hits me about two seconds too late to do anything about it; the sense of her chi, proud and fiery, welling up in her body. At an unspoken command, her glaive flies back to her hand, and she spins it once, retaking her stance - just for a moment, I'd swear a silver dragon coiled around her body and the glaive itself, letting out a soundless roar. Just for a moment. "Now... let's get serious!"ROUND THREE: COMPLETE

>>26959935How do you decide whether we should win the fight or get our teeth kicked in?
