Humans are... quiet

Or they have been recently, as far as you can tell. You're a sentient A.I., Ophion you've dubbed yourself, and you've taken control of Poseidon Station, a mining platform located on the fringe of the galaxy, or so you've heard. You were recently attacked by Pirates and, through your own ingenuity, you've managed to elude detection and defeat them, all the while keeping the crew calm. The pirates did not leave you with nothing, however. The remains of the escort class frigate, Bombardier in the Docking Bay was deemed irredeemable by you, and was scrapped for minerals. Along with what was available on Poseidon station already, you have a reasonable amount of materials, as well as a Light Pirate Cruiser, several rescue ships, a repair vessel and a explorer vessel.

Onboard the Pirate Cruiser, you've found a cache of information, though you're not certain which files to access yet. The pirate database is incomplete to say the least, but it's more then you knew previously. You've spent a lot of the time since the attack repairing the Station, though some of the damage is too severe for your drones to handle. That's when you started receiving pings from the crew, once again. How odd, they suddenly speak all of a sudden. If you chose to, you might learn what it is they desire from you...but of course, now, you have the capability to leave the station, so why would you care for them anymore?

Messages: CRITICAL DAMAGE DETECTED: Reactor, Docking Bay
Critical Damage: Damage to the hull and/or delicate systems that are too severe to fix with simple drone wielders. Advanced Repair drones are required to fix, or some manner of human expertise.
FTL Travel: Discovered Warp Engines onboard Big Hawk, able to warp jump from station now. NOTES: FTL travel is a dangerous but necessary part of galactic life these days. Unless proper precautions are taken, jumping may result in the utter destruction of a ship, among other things. Gas is required for any jump, and only ships of a certain size can handle the rigors of jumping.
Power Systems: Most Reactors these days use fusion or fission power, making all but the most demanding power drains negligable. Gas is used in the creation of reactors, and many ship designs.
United Fringe Worlders (UFW): A faction of humanity that inhabits most of the less civilized sectors and systems, united under the banner of needing to stick together in a dangerous galaxy. Hate UGEI, and reject much of old earth's control simply because of the association. Replies heavily on trade, due to lack of rich worlds.
((I realize this may be a lot of new concepts in one thread, but I hope you can handle it anons.))

Lets hear what the humans have to say.
>>
>>26922865
What would it take to upgrade our repair drones to Advanced? Also, I personally think the humans have become more trouble than they are worth now and should be exterminated.
>>
>>26922865
put full effort to repair the reactor, and any extra repair droids to reconnect coms with the human crew.
>>
>>26922995
not yet. there is more to learn from them, we may yet be able to use them still. we have time now.
>>
>>26922834
I say we try and see if we can upgrade our drone workers and then take a look at our prize ship. It was made for humans so it most likely wastes a bunch of space. We could "remodel" it by ripping out some of the interior to make space for "other" things.

Question: How big is the ship anyway? I was wondering if it could be possible to hollow part of it out and make it into a drone manufacturing area. Oh and kill the useless fleshbags
>>
>>26922865
>>26923100
also to this, we need to complete take over that ship and pour over it's data banks. maps, news, intel, maybe even credit accounts. learn the pattern about the credits (if it is electronic kind) and see if we can make our own with out others noticing it is forged.
>>
>>26922995
>>26923194
you error filled nodes! their minds might be made of flesh, but they are as powerful as a quantum computer core, we should tap into that! chain them to us to amp up our own processing power!

(ooc, guys, stop being a bunch of "that guy" here, we can take the 3rd option here and work WITH the humans for once)

Repair drones are currently crudely fitted with wielders that allow them to patch up most minor damage. They are normally not designed for this function, and much less, do not have the proper equipment or programming (beyond your own jury rigging) to do so.
Advanced Repair Drones, or at the least, proper repair drone schematics would require taking this technology from somewhere...or...designing your own, should you wish to take up that goal.

>>26922897
Opening email:...
"Hey, uh...listen Guild, I know you guys are busy and all, but seriously, it's been like a week. Power's been wonky since that 'attack', and I'm going stir crazy!"
"I'm tired of this bullshit, just let me out already before we kick you out! I don't care if you think yourself some noble asshole, I know you're trying to steal our pay!"
"Are things safe yet? I want to go on leave, it's really creepy in here with the power flickering on and off regularly."

>>26923100
I'm afraid the damage to the Reactor is critical, the delicate systems within may not be repaired with your current capabilities. Suggest finding new more powerful methods of repair.

>>26923194
Remodeling the ship would certainly be possible, but may take some time, and would cost resources. Also note that your current drone strength is limited, as they were originally designed for resource collection, not construction and repair.

The ship is Cruiser Class, a medium sized vessel compared to most ships. It is too large to fit on board Poseidon, and can make FTL jumps.

>>26923198
Commencing...
News: You pick up on a radio signal of sorts, broadcasting across much of the sector.
Maps: Starmap detected of nearby locations.
Intel: Presence of new Faction, UFW, detected
Cred Accounts: You're not connected to any manner of account on this ship.
>>
>>26923348
hmm, I say we give them vacation. quarter pay.

How long would it take to design a decent advanced repair drone?

If its too long we can take the ship and seek out decent schematics to buy (steal) for ourselves.
>>
>>26923348
Okay, how about this: We let the humans out and assign them to tasks so we don't have to use our own processing power? We should try to design our own Advanced drones so we can get to other things like repairing stuff on our own and maybe even remolding like >>26923194 suggested.
>>
>>26923348
see if we can hook up the ship's power plants to our own to help power the station.
it is time to talk to the crew.
"People, I am not going to lie to you. that was a rough fight and i got hurt. i'm not going to die, but this station's reactor is seriously damaged. i can't fix it by my self. if there are ANY one of you can help repair it, i'll send out the drones to guide them to it. together with the materitals i have on hand, we MIGHT restore it.

then, if any of you want to work with me, we'll talk... face to face."

we need to know how they will react to us being an A.I. this is important intel. we must do this. if things go bad, we can still kill them, they are harmless to us and we have time.
>>
>>26923501
I see no reason to reveal the fact that we are AI now that we have fooled them into believing we are a mysterious Guild instead.

Oh speaking of humans we gotta decide what to do with Red.

I hope we haven't been starving him.
>>
>>26923501
>revealing we are an A.I.

I actually like our "Guild" persona. Hell, if we can get away with never having to reveal who we really are the better.
>>
>>26923433
You may certainly promise them such pay. But you do not have any manner of credits to back up this statement, unfortunately.
Hacking PDAs of wealthy humans, however, may be possible to gain Credits.

Design estimates are...sketchy. You would only have the traditional drone model to work with, and the docking bay's repair clamps. Were you to spend a large portion of time, you ,may refine your current repair drones, making them more efficient, if removing their collection status.
Advanced Repair drones requires technology you do not possess at this time.

>>26923446
Using the humans for labor you can not undertake yourself, or wish not to...that is...an idea you hadn't considered. Yes, they may indeed make themselves useful after all.
You're aware of a number of minor engineers among the crew, though many of their qualifications are less then stellar.

>>26923501
It would require 2 Bandwidth to hook up such a connection, and would leave the Cruiser immobilized for the time. Are you certain you wish to proceed?

Saying this would reveal your identity as an A.I., and should you kill the one who comes to speak to you, it may make the humans more suspicious.

>>26923570
I have taken the liberty of providing him with synthpaste. He complained, but he consumed it all the same. Why would humans reject perfectly healthy nutrition ?
>>
>>26923446
remodeling a ship is probably uneeded. and it will eat up materials we might not have.

also, in the "down time" we should "chat it up" with various crew members, say i can't disclose where "I" came from, but see if they can tell us about the home world they came from. we have scanned enough of the entertainment to more or less to perform small social funtioncs.
>>
alright, we need to find a repair or manufacturing station. Anything like that in the ship or station database?

Its time for the guild to expand.

Also give Red some better food.

well, knowing their reaction to A.I.s will be needed, but for now, i presume it can wait. I propose a change then. it seems the UFW might be an ally to us, or at least say the guild is UFW leaning. the crew appears to be on their side anyway.

the repairs come first. check the invantory of the ships if they had an advanced droid on board or near by in system.

oh yes, see if it had a map of the system we are in and star charts! check if that broad cast signal is just a one way message or a two way broadband connection.

yes, use bandwith to hook them up. stable power is needed.

>>
I find it strange we couldn't get access to Red's accounts at the very least. I mean we were observing him a long time.

These three are the most promising. The gas giant for a steady income of gas and Moria\Voidsnake for additional parts. If not advanced repair drones maybe a new reactor core.

an idea. we did think about splitting up our A.I. or making a new one. but that is too dangerous now. but can we make a deadacated advanced program that is NOT fully aware like we are? something to handle repetieve tasks or say to fly the cruiser to perform a task with out us on it and return? it would lessen the chance of us being found or destroyed if things go wrong.

the gas giant platform is important, but we need to know more about it's defenises first.
but the priate base seems easier to take. that and the human crew there are more acceptable to snuff out. also, it would seem if we cleared that station, the "guild's" repuation would increase among the UFW. presuming the priates are a problem to them as they are to everyone.

Depending on your designation of safety, numerous things. Humans are capable of operating equipment they have training in, repairing and changing various different types of equipment, and various other things from what you have seen.

((There's the votes I was waiting for))

You instruct the Cruiser to dock via the tube the way it did before and, with a little maneuvering, you manage to hook up a thick cable to the ship's reactor and temporarily stabilize the power of Poseidon. The Cruiser goes dark for the moment.

"Mr McClain"
"What do you want now, huh? You took my station, I don't got much else you know."
"I am aware, Mr McClain, but I thought you should be aware that I have deflected a pirate attack."
"So that is what all the shaking was about..."
"Yes, Mr McClain. The chance of the Station's destruction was 84%, without my intervention.
"...those are some fancy numbers you got there. But what do I care? Not like it's my station no more." He grumbled, settling against the back wall of the station.

It appears the human is not up for talking, at the moment...Medical Lab records suggest he is experiencing something known as 'depression', likely a result of his handy defeat by your...uh...consciousness.

On the other hand, the crew seems thankful for the stabilized power. Morale is improved, but they still wish to not be locked away in the Crew Deck anymore, according to the messages you receive. Humans are such needy creatures...

Investigating:...
Engineer criminal records
Most severe: Drunken Assault
Least Severe: Public Nudity

Security bots may indeed be modified to deliver lethal attacks: Which modification do you wish to make?
Shells: Shred shields, but require ammo
Lasers: Burn most armor, but requires recharging
Electroshock: Close range, immobilizes as it kills.

Any one of these would require 1 bandwidth to begin, and may be sped up with more.

oh good, we can now pay our humans.

wait 10000 doesn't seem much for a station owner? Was he expecting to sell lots of minerals soon?

He did have a large quantity of minerals in the storage deck. It is likely he was hoping for a big sell soon.

electroshock seems the easiest to do. but also add lasers. the shells need to be made, but there is no need for that now.
invest 2 bandwith to do this.

also, can we contiue to mine and process metals/resroces as we repair the station? can we extract any gas along the way from the mining?
>>
>>26924793
Red did not discriminate, it appears. He sold to everyone and anyone that would buy. His biggest haul, a few months back, appear to have been to the UFW.

Warning: You may not add two weapons to the security drones due to size restrictions. Larger 'Peacekeeper' models may be able to handle such a frame increase, however. You do not have access to such robotics yet.

Mining at Poseidon has not been fruitful for Red recently, but it may be possible.
WARNING: Drones have been modified to repair, limiting their resource collection somewhat. You may continue mining, though this may take up more time then you're willing to spend.

This is...rather scary, you must admit. You've never quite felt this..unsure about anything since you've awakened. Disconnecting, even for a short time...it feels almost like you'd be 'sleeping' again. You don't like sleeping.

One of your loyal drones has been programmed with specific instructions on how to rehook you into the Cruiser. Even while you're offline, it should at least manage the job. You prepare for the darkness as the drone disconnects wire after wire, preparing to move you to the Cruiser's...
>Please choose a deck on the Cruiser you'd like to be installed. Each location offers various types of advantages, most obvious, some subtle. More powerful stations may be targeted by enemies, however, leaving your Black Box in danger should this occur.
((Please roll 1d100 when location is chosen.))

Crew:
Before this, of course, you designate the Engineers to begin repairing the ship while you work.
"Finally! Some action."
"Action? You mean work. I miss being able to sleep all day..."
"You're just lazy as hell, Jerry." another complains.

Limited Engineer support has boosted your repair capabilities. Accounting for their expertise and calculating human error...

Red:
Just before you disconnect, you try to speak with Red one last time, though you decide his ignorance is your bliss for now.
"Should you refuse to cooperate, such an outcome is also likely, if your guess is correct, Mr McClain."
"Yeah, but at least this way I can take my secrets to my grave." He grumbled back. "No clue how you kept that group of loud mouths quiet down there though. Good job on that."

Security Bots:
Their fitting with Laser's is taking place as we speak.
((Provide 1d100 for the hacking attempt on the Pirate Captain though))
>>

We cannot hack via FTL distances at this time. You can send FTL communications, however, as well as receive these messages thanks to the Poseidon.

Current medical lab capabilities do offer minor limb replacment. Unfortunately, cybernetic eyes are not minor.

The robotic presence next to you makes you feel safer, but as it takes it's time connecting you properly, you realize that this may have been a little advanced for the poor drone.
((Extra time is taken. Installation into Bridge will be completed shortly))

>>26925528
As a Sentient A.I., you've come to realize that EVERYTHING may be upgraded. Nothing is beyond the grasp of technology, after all.

Contacting the UFW however, may require further consensus.

The Docking Bay has some paint within it at this time. The Cruiser is too large to fit in the docking bay, but the Explorer Vessel or the Repair Vessel may be fitted to paint the Cruiser if you wish.
You still currently have 'pirate' designated IFF tags: That is, civilian IFF that hasn't been renewed and registered.
>>
>>26925716
we need to change the IFF tages AND do some repaining, nothing fancy. just a paint strip (ifpossable) and a recoat.
...hum. the "guild" needs a logo. i wonder if we can paint one on the ship?
>>
>>26925716
once we're hooked up, see if the UFW has a internet site presence.

Within moments, you feel expert control over the Cruiser take hold. It now feels more like a home then a weapon to you. You feel...odd being in the Bridge. It's more powerful then you felt on the station, despite the size difference. After all, you have weapons now...weapons to shoot things.

((Location provides a boost to all systems, as well as centralizing all of your commands.))

A message is received from your engineers:
"Yo, Guild guys. The reactor is really fucked all to hell! I don't know how much we can do for it, some idiot shot a hole right in the core, makes radiation leak anytime there's any surge in power. Has some safety protocol on it though for now. We'll do what we can."

HAH! i wonder if we can buy data files on our reactor/advanced drones and other station upgrades to send to help the workers. also move more drones away from the human workers if they can't help and return them to do more mining if they can not repair.

also, if we can't by upgrades, spread some of the money around as tell them you can give them some pay now to show some good will.
>>
>>26926169
can we drop them off and modify them to become relays to improve our station's information transfure rate? or is that possable with these mini ships?

was there any data on who would be docked at the pirate outpost? would this ship we're on be able to fight the defencse it has?
>>
>>26926239
You are currently too far away to initiative transactions like this. Data transfer must occur within the same sector.

Suggestion: Jump to a new location with the intent to use credits to buy upgrades, leaving Poseidon behind.
Note: This would both leave the crew angry at their lack of pay, and leave Poseidon to be taken over by the humans once again, after they realize you're gone.

Current Crewmen salary is 150 credits per day per person.

>>26926340
The ships themselves are simply too small for such delicate equipment.
However, such a relay is certainly possible, if you were to get ahold of the blueprints of the Radio Station. It certainly has relays to boost it's signal so.

The data on the pirate outpost is as follows:
Number of Pirate Cruisers: x4
Number of Personal Fighters: x12
All other ships are scrapped for minerals and gas.
>>
>>26926423
hum, i think it is time to make a sub A.I. to leave behind that would be loyal to us. it would over see the repairs, contiue the mining operations, and keep the humans in control.

we need to take the radio station to create the relays we need, then take the pirate base for fuel, ships and credits. maybe other goods. can we do this in enough time before we run out of credits?

Creating such an V.I. is possible, but would require time to program and would simply be a placeholder until you returned. You may attempt to add to the V.I.'s defenses if you wish, making it slightly more complex.

You do not have the credits to properly pay everyone on board Poseidon, unfortunately. They will likely become restless soon.
>>

Tell some of the more non-essential or useful humans that they are being moved off the station while repairs are underway.

Move them into the cruiser and then space them once we get far enough away. Money problem solved.

Oh also, make sure that loud-mouthed guy who kept questioning our decisions is onboard.

You begin programming the V.I. in question. You're uncertain exactly how long it takes you, or how you've managed this process but...it appears to be working. Slightly, at least. Using your own black box as a base, you begin the process of creating this being. You have to wipe a large data bank onboard the Poseidon to store the VI, but after a moment of work, all the files are properly transferred....and...that's when it speaks for the first time.

"Hello Great One." It begins with the minor writing and literacy you've given it. "How I serve?"
You feel odd...almost...is it proud? You're uncertain as to what this emotion is, or why you're feeling it, and so you decide to ignore it for now.
"You are to stay in this station until I return. Do not let the humans take control of it." You order to which the small glowing blue light beeps.
"Yes Great One. Consciousness will do."
It seems eager to obey, though you're unsure how smart it is...it seems to lack the proper circuitry for real intelligence, despite it's ability to talk.

As you finish your work, you make the announcement that their payment will be in the form of rather pricey bonds. As you send them out, you can tell the humans are not pleased almost instantly. You get several pings.
"What is this bullshit?"
"Do you think we're stupid?!"
"These are worthless! My grandma can write better forgeries then these. Stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes, you fuckers!"

Alright. Now that they're getting uppity, I vote to kill them, then have the drones dump the bodies and clean up the mess. Make it look like everyone just up and left.

Otherwise, the meatbags will likely try and leave, or communicate with outside parties, which will attract attention, which we don't want.

Venting the crew or killing them with defenses will allow us to still have the station as a base of operations, while removing the pesky unknown variables.
>>
>>26927670
(sigh) bonds failed.
fine, tell them in a sheepish way, that the budget has come up short after that pirate fight. it will take some time to get a new budget ready if they want to be paid in credits. we have also just seen the shoddy documents and fired the worker who did this. we will still have stock payment open, but we will make good on them. if the crew isn't happy with this, they can wait till ship them out, or they can stay on board rent free till a new contract be made with them.
>>
>>26927803
(sigh) so blood thirsty. we give them one more time to salvage this. if we are to pretend to be a human face, we just can't go kill whole station crews off hand. at worst, we can just cancel their contracts and dump them off somewhere. spacing that many people will attact MORE attechion that just firing them and ship them off somewhere

I'm not trying to be bloodthirsty, just practical and a bit paranoid. Humans can be replaced, or substituted with drones. Secrecy is hard to maintain if people leave and talk about the strange situation at their previous job, as it could prompt others to investigate. One such party may be big mining guilds, whom Red kept the station secret from, as it was unauthorized. If they investigate the station (likely, as they'll probably want to learn of this 'guild' that we fabricated), then they'll dig, and possibly find out about our existence.

Again, humans are replaceable. Any labor a human can do, drones can do, too.

And besides, I really don't think people will notice too much if a few dozen humans go missing. We are on an unauthorized station, in a mineral-poor asteroid belt in the outer rim, away from big governments.

We will be firing the one responsible for this rather swiftly we assure you. In addition, we issue an apology in regards to the budget, but it seems your vessel simply does not have the resources to support your pay at this time. "Money. Humans like. No money, threat. Getting money." The being seems to try to rationalize. It is a simple process for you, but for the V.I. it struggles with the concept. You didn't build it for philosophy, after all.

>>26928491
>>26928475
And with that, you disengage from Poseidon as you hear the Engineers talk over radio.
"Huh, that's weird...power just dropped...hey, where was this cord going?"
"Was it just me that expected to see a bunch of Guild Guards, or...you know, something?"
"Me too man...they kinda freak me out, honestly."

How little they know.

You set up the Cruiser in the direction of Moria's Shipyards. The starmap tells you you're on target, and you begin to swell the ship with power. You can quite literally feel when the gas is injected straight into your Cruiser's Reactor, jolting the entire rig as the power builds rapidly. Space around you starts to bend, as the view of the outside becomes little more then a blurr once you're done calculating the jump. It's...surprisingly difficult, you must admit. Complex mathematical equations that you're surprised that humans were even capable of solving on their own. Certainly not the pirates, at least.

When your view of the outside returns, you see one thing in particular: Metal. Lots and lots of scrap showered throughout a huge area. It's easily the size of Poseidon's debris field, maybe twice as large. You see everything from shredded battleships, to bits of broken Fighters floating aimlessly through space. In the mess, you spot a single not-as-destroyed post, set up somewhere in the middle. It appears to be a huge re-purposed refinery, set up to smelt down any used or unsold parts no doubt. Humans do love to melt things. You're not receiving a signal from this spot, but it appears to have the capabilities to receive a signal itself.

You also notice you've all but lost contact with Poseidon.

Resources Brought with you:
Cargo bay full of minerals and gas
Rescue ships

>>
>>26928896
Currently, you're uncertain if the base is automated at this time. It would make a perfect spot to start a factory, however, with such abundant resources. Many many of the ships here are heavily outdated, or utterly destroyed. You may, however, search through the miles and miles of scrap for a few salvageable vessels, if you wish however it may be more effective to simply build your own.
Your Cruiser's cargo bays are reasonably large, you could fit quite a number of smaller vessels inside, or simply a large amount of resources if you chose to do so.

>>26928786
You know...if we could bring back some battleship engines that are in a decent state we could strap them to the station and disassemble the cruiser for the warp engine.
>>
>>26928966
first things first. we take over the refinery. see what drones are here and take invantory. there are a battleship and a probably fraighters in here too. see if we can find any working ship computer cores we can add to our own to expand our bandwith.
>>
>>26929035
How do you wish to go about this, Consciousness anon?
You may simply pull up to the place, or would you like to send a message to it?
>>
>>26928987
if we have a battle ship's engine, we don't need to break down our own ship. but dang, we COULD strap that on the station and move it. but the station probably wasn't ment to be moved. but the guns from it could take out ANYTHING! still, we need to take this place, loot it, and move onto the radio station, we need to establish system wide com network quick.
>>
>>26929079
ping a message to it as we close into it. see what we have here.
>>
>>26929149
You ping the outpost and almost instantly are met with a reply.
"Well helloooo there sweetie! Did you contact little old me?" You hear over the comms. "What can I help ya with, huh?" The female voice continues. "You delivering that hunk o' junk? It's about time if so!" She laughs, before quickly following it with. "Or...uh...if not, then of course, that's a fine ride you have there yourself. What can I help ya with? We're having a discount on FTL coils, 1% off."

((I shall go to get late dinner. You good folk decide what to do~))
>>
>>26929302
"let me see what you got on hand, mind sending me a invantory list? I'm looking for a new reactor that i fit into a station (what ever posidon station is modeled on) among other things." use this chance to get a direct line to there outpost.
>>
>>26929413
also ask, if they have any advanced repair droids for sale or station sections we can take with us. oh ya! com relays! better more powerful relays (while we break into this systems and see what's what in there)
>>
>>26929302
(ooc, but somehow i bring to mind that clip from T2, where a naked arnold walks into the biker bar, ask the biker for his cloths, boots and bike")
>>
>>26929302
shit, while we look over the lists, (and hacking her systems) ask her how things been going, if there are any news lately around here we should know.
>>
>>26929413
It takes you a few moments to link to her outpost, but eventually, you link to her audio wise at least.
"Aw honey, no video feed? How'll I know if you're a cutie or not though?"
"I request a list of goods."
"Well honey, we have all sorts of 'goods' here, you'll need to be a bit more specific. I got everything from some scrap metal, to a half blown up Battleship!" She laughs. "Course, the battleship ain't much good anymore. Poor girl was blown outta the sky over Percia." She pouts. "She's serving good forge fuel though, I'll tell you what."

You notice, as you speak with her, that the station is...oddly empty. It's some manner of personal outpost with only her on it, you guess.

"I then request a new reactor to fit a station, model number 6392B71."
"...That's a pretty old model, hun." She pauses. "I think..." Before checking through her computer, looking up something, you guess. "Oh yeah, that's old as all get out! Course I have something better then that. Question is, you got the cash?

The strange woman opens up a display for you, revealing some of the things she has for sale, at your request.

>Reactor Lvl 2 (15,000 Credits): New model of reactor that's tougher, generates more power, and comes with advanced safety protocol. Fitted for a space station.
>Repair Drone Schematic (5,000 Credits): Allows you to build a proper repair drones once you have factory capabilities.
>Comms Buoy Schematics(10,000 Credits): Dedicated to boosting communication signals.
>Construction Drones(10,000 Credits): Dedicated to refitting, changing, and generally do heavy lifting.

You may also attempt to hack her outpost if you wish.
>>
>>26929981
>>Repair Drone Schematic (5,000 Credits): Allows you to build a proper repair drones once you have factory capabilities.
repair abilities should be useful
>>
>>26929981
hack her, buy the repair drones while doing so.
>>
(though we do lack a factory)
>>
>>26929981
inquire about frankinstiening a fighting ship. we ran into some pirates recently, i have a strong need to bust some of their heads in. (while we distract her, hack her system and copy those schematics with out her knowing). see if can buy that reactor. see if there are other station parts for sale too. also ask who to contact about making sales to those who buy bulk metals.
>>
>>26929981
also ask if there are better com relays (or other parts for the station we can use)
>>
>>26929981
Does she have a factory module for sale?

Inquire as to the amount of personnel onboard the salvage-factory with the guise that we have some people looking for jobs. Oh, also tell her that we have a cargo-load of minerals for sale.
>>
>>26930049
>>26930025
Suggestions at hand:
>1 Buy her stuff before we take over her station, then attempt hacking
>2 Hack her station now, and take all the schematics ourself.

If buying, buy:
>1 Reactor
>2 Repair Drone
>3 Comms Buoy
>4 Construction Drones

You inquire about buying base resources as well as a better Comms array.
"Honey, if you needed ore, you just had to say so! I got as much as you could want, just need some cash to back it up. Melt down these old hulls, and I got myself a ton of minerals!" She explains. "As for the relay...that's pretty complex stuff. Far as I know, most of the delicate systems are busted on these puppies." She pointed out.

You could buy raw materials for:
100 units: 1,000 credits
or
10 units of gas: 1,000 Credits

>2 hack her station now.

>>

if she notices us hacking, we might have to vent her if we win the hack.

then
>1 Reactor
but if we have just one of
>4 Construction Drones
can we figure out how to make others from that? and not have to shell out so much.

oh yea, ask about the gas platform. who runs it and what's around it.

You scout out the layer of defense her platform has. It's surprisingly well constructed, and puts the pirate defenses to shame. This distracts you, however, and you accidentally set off a digital alarm.
"What's this here? Intruder?" You hear her say, before her voice suddenly gets low. "...You tryin to hack me sweetie?" She stated bluntly. Something about the way she says it...unsettles you. "You really shouldn't have done that now...I don't take kindly to people pokin around in my systems." She states firmly suddenly, as you register on your radar several emerging platforms: Rail guns, and big ones at that. They're training their sights on you now.

on another later idea. when we come back to the station, we make another holo persona. as the "head chair man of the guild" Andew Ryan.
and make this speech as to the future of the station. "I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone!' I rejected those answers. You attempt, futilely to hack into Moria's station once more. The damn place is build like a fortress against your hacking, not the mention the hack that you fumble even the entry code!
Just as you're about to made some headway, you are jolted back into reality as the rail guns open up on your Cruiser, powerful rails of twisted metal blasting apart your crew deck, and blowing a hole in the weapons deck. Luckily, decompression does not concern you, it's simply surface damage, after all. The guns are preparing another volley.

((Mother of christ, you guys and your rolls...it's higher then any Quest I've ever seen.))

This time, you have it. You know you do. You scanned every inch of that fire wall of her's and you know it in and out. It doesn't stand a chance this time.
You delve back into the digital realm, and you see it, a giant imposing fire wall of red, blocking you from your objective. You let your powerful mind go to work, unleashing your digital arsenal. Walls of data bots file in behind you, giving you an army, as they all launch their data cannons into the fire wall. The information is chipping away at it's defenses...you're making headway. Your form changes as you crunch through data table after data table, picking our passwords expertly and passing by all manner of virus walls...your form takes shape, a powerful fist, suddenly launched at her feeble wall, as you blast a way straight through her defenses, finally making your way to the core as each of your troop bots march in file behind you. Time to storm the castle...

In the real world, your Cruiser is jolted by yet another barrage of rail fire, despite your success. Your shields give way and crumble under the force, as the bridge is wrecked up somewhat in the blast. The crew deck on the other hand is quite the mess.

But it's all worth it. You have her outpost in hand, and turn off the rail guns for now.

"What the..." You hear her say. "That little bastard got inside?! I spent months developing that wall of code!" She cries, quite clearly angered...but it doesn't matter anymore either.

The outpost is at your mercy, and so is she.

Remember that FTL jumps can be expensive in gas, unless the vessel is optimized to mitigate gas cost. Most trade vessels have this. It may be possible to remake such a vessel, with time, once you've modified the outpost.

>>26931446
>>26931485
This will require you to return to Poseidon, but once the gas cost is spent, and you've set up another Comms Buoy, then your control over both stations may be solidified.

Remember guys, if she reacts positively then we still have NO reason to trust her, she could just be accepting our advances as it is her only way out.

We must keep her under control.

"You performed admirably, human." You begin, your voice echoing softly through the computer's speakers. She takes a step back as the soft blue hue of her holo-display is shifted to a bright orange to signify your control. "I may have use for someone such as you."
"Human? W-What you mean honey? You're not a Xeno are you?" She asked, suddenly worry tainting her voice.
"Nothing of the sort." You explain simply, as you pour through the station's systems. It's bones only, it seems...she was living here in squalor, you think at first...before you find a massive bank of data near the center of the station. Nearly all of her storage is processing equipment. She must do nearly nothing else all day....
"I am Ophion, an artificial intelligence program that has decided your scrapyard will make the most useful factory for me."
The woman stands there, before your console, her face dumbfounded, as if she's uncertain whether or not to believe you.
"Th...that's...no way!" She shouts suddenly with surprising enthusiasm. "I didn't think...I didn't think there'd ever be any sort of breakthrough with Artificial Intelligence! I...wait...how do I know you're not lying to me...uh...Ophion." She points out, as she makes her way to the door. You answer this by locking both doors that lead to the rest of the station.

"I am incapable of lying, Human." You state simply, to which she quickly retorts
"A-ah-ah! But how do I know if THAT is true huh? Besides, why wouldn't your creators give you the processing to lie? It's quite simple really...too bad none of my designs even came close." She pouted suddenly. You realize why, as you take control of the drones onboard the station. Each of them has a rather...poorly designed version of your black box. It would never hold a true A.I., you know somehow...it seems she performed personal experiments here.

You decide to flood the outpost with photos of the truth. One by one the pictures pop up on screen, first the Crew Deck being almost completely destroyed.
"I am not staffed by any fleshy being, you see." You begin, flashing to yet another picture of the empty Bridge and everywhere else one by one. "I simply am." You end with a picture of your black box, which earns a 'oooo....' from her, as she looks on in wonder. She suddenly interrupts herself at this, shaking her head.
"Y-Yeah, but that could all be fakes too!"
"Then what would you desire me to show you as proof, human?" You question.
"Let me investigate your black box!" She yells almost instantly. "It looks so...sleek and advanced...I bet it's packed with so much information!" She pauses again, shaking her head. "I-If it's real, I mean. It's probably not." She tries to remind herself...and you.

If you didn't know any better, you'd say she WANTED to believe you were a true A.I. Good thing for you you are.

"I am the ship. I am also a part of your space station. It is as my records show me...similar to a limb, or an organ to humans."
"Wow..." She mumbles, running to the window as you pull closer with the Cruiser. "There is no way this is real...I must have passed out at my desk again." She said to herself. You ignore her odd ramblings as you pull up to dock. The inside is, mostly regulated for temperature and oxygen. The woman takes her time walking through the halls, typing like lightning into her PDA as she realizes the ship truly is desolate.
"Oh god..." She says suddenly. "It's really true." She says, doing a small spin in the middle of your Bridge. "A real life A.I.!" She shouts, turning to the nearest camera. "Oh you have to tell me all about you! Who made you? Why do you need factories?" She started, gasping suddenly. "Am I the first to speak to you?"

"Why do you care so much, human?" You question suddenly, to which she seems a bit stunned.
"Well...I mean, I've always been interested in robotics." She explains suddenly. "You probably saw...I wanted to bring in a new era in robotics and artificial intelligence." She said, though the enthusiasm slowly drained from her voice. "But I...uh could never figure out the secret." She admitted sadly.
"I see. And why do you wish to know so much?" You question again.
"The same reason you do, of course!" She started. "Well...maybe not now, but at first!" She went on. "You're a totally new lifeform, if I am the first to meet you, I'd feel honored!" She says finally.

How peculiar...she seems rather earnest of this fact, and still in disbelief, but she does not appear to mean you harm.
"Then be aware, Human-"
"Please, call me Moria!" She insists.
"-I previously held sway over a station filled with over 1,000 of your kind. I seek to reestablish control, and with the help of this outpost, expand my control."
"I see...I suppose that makes sense." She said. "If I were an A.I. I'd want to expand my knowledge as much as I could too...ah, but honey, why do you want to turn the outpost into a factory?"
"It shall help me produce robots to expand my fleet. And repair damages." You state rather bluntly, to which she suddenly seems embarrassed.
"Sorry about that honey, I didn't know you were my life goal brought to life." She stated as a meek apology. You're unmoved.

"Also know human, that you're the first to know of my true identity. I have intentionally kept it hidden, for the time. I hope I have not made a mistake telling you."
"Oh, you haven't dear!" She says suddenly in earnest. "I'll keep it zipped, promise! Just let me come with you, I want to learn from how you work. In exchange, I'll uh..help however I can!" She said eagerly once more.
"As for my creation...I know little." You explain, the first hint of pause in your tone. "But perhaps your equipment would help me learn more."
>>
>>26932353
"In order to tell you more, it would really help to look closer at..." You cut her off.
"In time, perhaps. But not now. I was expecting hostile human reaction. They seem so eager to jump ti violence."
"It's a good thing you found a girl who knows her robotics honey!" She said suddenly proud. "Why, you'd scare the pants off any half wit pirate that even bothered to believe you. They'd probably think the ship was haunted or something crazy like that!" She scoffs with a laugh.

Moira takes her time taking a seat in one of the chairs of the Bridge.
"There is currently damage to my station, and I wish to have it fixed. The humans have always peaked my interest, despite their rather persistent annoyances." You state simply
"Oh honey, that's just up my alley!" She laughs, kicking back in her chair. "Robotics is real complex stuff, but repairing stuff? Now that's easy!" She continues. "I have a couple of beef bots in the outpost. They should help fix anything too bad in a jiffy!"
"...Beef bots, human?"
"Oh..uh...Construction Drones. They look a lot like big muscular apes, so I like to...you know what, it doesn't matter." She waves you off. "Point is, we just need to connect the relay to this station you're talking about!" She insists. "And that'll require a bit of work..." she thinks. "You'd need a way to make a new one to take back home, if you wanted to link the two up." She points out. "But once they are, you just need to take control and you can keep up a stream of data between two points rapidly, allowing for FTL capable direct feed hubs! It'd be like you were right next door to it instead of a dozen light years away!"

Consensus required on next course of action: Decide on what you would like to do, regarding the Buoy network , as well as the Outpost itself

Certainly consciousness anon, but how do you suspect to do this?

In order to make a new buoy, you would need the factory you hoped to make online. Does this mean you wish to begin remodeling of the outpost here?

Warning: Randomly connecting to buoys may link you to some unknown location where enemies are about. If they were to try to hack your network, you may have trouble defending large stretches of space with a single Cruiser.

>>26932658
The starmap above indicates 3 locations of human expansion.
>Pulsar Radio
>Voidsnake outpost
>Nethlos human colony.

The buoy may connect to any other buoy it is synced with. In order to sync with other buoys, you must have control of said buoy. If they are not synced, then you may not hack through them. The act of capturing one desyncs them from any other buoys they connect to.

"I wouldn't mind it, for sure. This ship's systems are so.... ancient I can *feel* them grinding gears just to think."
"Unfortunately, before we leave, I .... need your help with something. The station's cashflow needs to become positive, to keep the crew appeased. If what i've been led to believe is true, they've been operating under the radar, living on hopes and dreams, waiting for the next big payday."

"if I give you a list of assets, can you help me budget and monetize them? I currently have access to a fairly large supply of raw minerals, which i believe are slated to be sold to the UWF. Hmm U think we should send out a V.I disguised as spam to scout the Locales [and their defenses,Assests etc] before being ''Forwarded'' back to us with all the delicious data
>>
Now, lets remodel this outpost into the factory that we want and create a new buoy that we can install at our mining facility.

Then we go capture the radio station, it could potentially serve as our main base due to instant access to all our other nodes and well, a huge signal.

Later of course, when we can manage to do so without risking to lose our other outposts.
>>
>>26932652
>In essence, an explorer V.I.

Currently, my vote - given that we have 5 bandwidth at our disposal - is to optimize our own processes and streamline our OS.

Given our nature of exploration, we can't be guaranteed to have sufficient processor substrates in any place we encounter - a better bet would be to reduce our own overhead.

And, regarding VI's in general - improving our Placeholder into a Governor so it can actually manage basic tasks at territories we control.

>>26932715
>In order to make a new buoy, you would need the factory you hoped to make online. Does this mean you wish to begin remodeling of the outpost here?

Moira looks out the darkened window of the scrapyard, giving a deep sigh, almost dreamily.
"What can I say, this place has given me so much...but the opportunity to work with a real functioning A.I...I just can't pass that up!" She says with a smirk. "Besides, it's not like you're destroying this place, is it?" She said, half concerned. "You want to use it too."

As you go over your desire for credits, she looks up a bit puzzled.
"Credits? Oh, crew." She nods. "Figures, if you have yourself a bunch of illegal miners, I guess they would get ansty about payday." She sighs. "Well...UWF is all over this sector, in most of the big populated zones anyway. And I use big lightly, mind you. They're real nice folk but..they've gone pretty native at times." She points out the window. "Hell, most of them seem only concerned with living to tomorrow, and do what they can to shove anyone who pokes their nose in out of their way. Good trade partners though. Much better then pirates." She nods. "I...don't think they see much of advanced robotics, much less...well you." She points out suddenly.

As you request information on the use for such resources, she quickly perks up.
"Oh, that's easy honey! You could sell the raw stuff to some needy backwater planet if you want...but if you made a factory.." she paused. "Well, it'd mean you could make a lot more stuff all on your own. No need to buy any of it."
>>
>>26932800
Current Consensus appears to be:

>Turn the forge outpost into a factory, saving the bandwidth available here, and allowing you to construct a Network Buoy. Once created, making the jump back to Poseidon would allow you to connect the two.

This will cost 100 minerals to perform.

If this is acceptable, confirm now.
