"Why are they bailing out of the tank for a dud shell?" You ask, watching the movie. You shake your head- most of the film was pretty good about the realities of running a tank, but occasionally things like this popped up.

You are the commander of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and, despite some of the inaccuracies, The Beast of War ain't a bad movie.

"I know!" Yukari says. It had become something a contest for you to find mistakes, however minor, before she pointed it out. "Even if it was a cook-off and not a mechanical malfunction I wouldn't want to be scrambling around inside the turret trying to get out when that breech comes back."

You nod. It sort of wasn't fair to have a couple of actual tankers watching movies that, while obvious well-researched, were probably written by people who'd never even been inside a tank.

>>26848131
I think we're about to hit back. I think having a small timeskip before we get Russels to do so is a good thing: I do not believe Yukari would be comfortable with taking things quickly.

As a side note her parents are being remarkably chill about this given the normal xenophobia of most Japanese.
>>
>>26848292
I think imploring a young man to at some point knock up your daughter at your first meeting goes a bit beyond chill.
>>
>>26848292
Considering that Yukari is tanksexual, I think they're happy she's interested in ANY guy, even if it is just because of his Gaijin Power.

i guess her parents see that idea that their probably unmarryable daughter found a good man with the pristege of owning and operating one of the most powerful and rarest tank that is allowed in Tankery games (and the potenchial wealth that goes with it) off sets the xenophobia and having half breed grandkids.
>>

At the high school division.
College is cold-war stuff.
Professional is modern MBTs.

>>
>>26848519
even so, our BlackJack is a rare model and is worth a ton of money.
>>
>>26848519
wait. that isn't safe. cold war guns could penetrate the "super carbon lining" that protects the cabins, and modern MBT would cut though it like a hot knife though butter!
>>
>>26848699
Keep in mind that cold war tanks have roughly equivalent armor to each other, as to modern MBTs.

Tungsten APFSDS rounds are mostly ineffective against western Rheinmetall L/44 120mm bearing tanks anyways, and we lack practical information on how Russian models fare.

YOU CALL THAT TIME FOR TONKS?
>>
>>26848844
Most western tanks have armor with similar ratings.

The T-90 uses the same gun (2A46 125 mm gun) as the T-72 and its variant the Iraqis used, and it was completely combat ineffective.

The relatively silent turbine engine and night vision capabilities didn't hurt, either, but when it was hit (by enemy fire) the rounds did nothing.
>>
>>26849174

You mean the Iraqi guns firing mild-steel training rounds?

And the fact that the T-90 is firing superior ammunition to the T-72, along with superior ATGMs.
>>
You lean back against Yukari's bed. "Y'know, this is fun!" You say, looking over at the fluffy-haired loader. "Thanks for having me over!"

She smiles back over at you. "It's fine! I hardly ever get to have friends over, especially ones that enjoy tanks as much as me!" She says. YOu just barely detect a hint of... sadness?

"So, what movie did you have in mind next?" You say, stretching out a bit. All the running around looking for Roy and then Richard, preceded by the massive waterfight is starting to catch up to you. "Y'know, I've got some movies at my house- why don't you come over next time?"

"Oh! Which one?" She says, suddenly excited!

"Got an entire library..." You say, shrugging. "Patton. A Bridge Too Far. Battle of the Bulge. The Desert Fox. Sahara with Bogart. Sahara with Belushi..." Between you and your grandfather, you've got a hell of a library of war films. You could probably ask Roy to borrow some of his anime, too, but she's probably already seen all that.

She lights up at the last one. "I heard they did a remake of Sahara!" She looks confused, though. "Who's Belushi?"

"...Actually, not sure if he was the best choice for that film- he's usually more of a comedic actor..." You say, gazing up. "It's a great movie though- very true to the original."

"I'd love to see it!" She says, clapping her hands and jumping to her feet. "I'm going to go get drinks- did you want anything?" She looks eager to entertain her new friend.

"I'll trust your taste." You say smiling up at her as she practically sprints off downstairs.

You relax a bit, watching more of the movie when you hear her door close behind you. Looking back you see Mr. Akiyama standing there and jump to your feet.

You just about choke on your tongue as you turn and see Yukari's father standing there and your first instinct is to dive for the window, your second instinct is to swallow your cyanide pill, unfortunately it's a three-story fall and you don't have a cyanide pill. You're going to have to play it cool- you weren't doing anything untoward with his daughter. "Oh, hello there Mr. Akiyama!"

He breaks into a smile. "Russells! How are you?" He says in a tone like he wasn't blocking your only exit from the room.

You blink. "Great! I'm having a lot of fun tonight." You say. Dammit! "I mean, Yukari wanted to see The Beast!" DAMMIT! "I mean, Yukari was just showing off her..." You feel yourself sweating bullets- really, a three-story fall probably isn't going to kill you. And you thought you saw some bushes you might land on out there.

"Relax, boy." He says. "Relax." He repeats. "Have a seat. I know you guys weren't doing anything... untoward. I don't think Yukari would have it in her anyway..."

You look at Mr. Akiyama. Mr. Akiyama looks at you. You start speaking slowly... "Phrasing?" And you both chuckle a bit.

"I wanted to apologize for the other night..." Mr. Akiyama starts. "It's just... Yukari doesn't have many friends and when we saw her bring home a young man..." He sighs. "We weren't expecting it, is all." After a few seconds he looks over at you. "So, if I may be a bit forward, what are your intentions with my daughter?"

You look at Mr. Akiyama. He looks back at you expectantly. You glance at the window- so close, so tempting. You whimper internally but then summon your courage and look Yukari's father in the eye. "Wait... What?" You say, completely terrified and confused all at the same time.

He sighs. "Son, maybe you might've noticed, but Yukari isn't really like most girls..." He pauses for a moment as you visually measure the window- you're pretty sure you can't fit the mattress through it to cushion your fall. "It's just... I don't want her getting hurt, is all. This is the first time she's had friends, the first time she's brought a boy home..." He looks at you and sighs. "I don't mind one way or the other, I just want to know."

A Great Commander knows when to tell the truth and, well, you suppose you've got to be a Great Commander once in a while. "We're... well, right now we're just friends." You say with a heavy sigh. "She's a great girl- pretty, smart, friendly- she can load a 75mm round in under six seconds... I just... I don't know if she even sees me in a romantic sense. Maybe, if she did?" You stare at a boxed tank kit that hadn't been there a few days before- an M26 Pershing. "Mr. Akiyama, whatever happens I promise I won't do anything to hurt her."

He nods at you and smiles. "Thanks. That's all I needed to hear." He stands up to leave and, before opening the door turns to look at you. "Just... If it does go that way, use protection." You choke. "We want grandchildren, but we aren't in a hurry..." ABORT! ABORT! WINDOW GO GO! You're prepared to make a running dive at it when the door opens.

"Hi Daddy!" Yukari says with a smile. "Did I interrupt anything?"

>Why are they bailing out of the tank for a dud shell

Just came here to answer that question.
Protocol dictates a shell that does not fire is either a dud or a defect, meaning undercharged propellent or overcharged. Had it been an overcharge, the propellent would ignite slower because of the compression, blast through the breech and kill everyone inside.

A cannon is more dangerous when it goes 'click' rather than 'bang'

only if you were stupid enough to unlock the breech which is designed to safely contain such emergencies, all you have to do is wait it out and then eject it like normal and remove it from the tank

You open your mouth to assure her that her father had not just asked you to practice safe sex with her. The best you can do is a short, strangled squeek and a feeling like you'd held your breath too long.

Mr. Akiyama, luckily, answers for you. "Oh! I was just asking if your friend here conditions. He has really healthy looking hair!" He says with a hearty smile.

You nod as vigorously as you can without passing out, still trying to get your mouth, throat and lungs to work in concert. Now you're pretty sure your right eye is joining them in open rebellion. You test both your arms, just to make sure this isn't a stroke- they're still working.

"Dad!" Yukari scolds. "I bring home a friend and the first thing you want to do is cut his hair?!" She says, embarassed. "I brought some tea, and my mom is baking some cookies."

Mouth, close. You close your mouth. Throat, stop being retarded. Your throat stops being stupid. Lungs, we need air. You take a deep breath. Now, and this very important, tell Yukari you would love to have some tea.

"I would like to have..." You throat seizes, you push out some words anyway. "some... drink... tea." It's practically a choke, but at least its a complete though. Kind of.

Yukari looks at you with concern as she hands you the cup. "Careful its-" You gulp it down and immediately regret your decision. "Hot..." She blinks at you. "Oh my, are you okay, Russells?!"

You blink back tears. "I'm... I'm fine." You say- the scalding tea had certainly relaxed your throat. "Just... fine."

Mr. Akiyama smiles and stands up. "Well, I'll let you guys finish your movie, then." He says. "You two stay out of trouble!" He says with a wink towards you that Yukari doesn't see. You realise you haven't inhaled since well before you drank your tea.

The correct ignition timing of a 1964 Bel Air Chevrolet, with a 327 cubic-inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor would be four degrees before top-dead-center.

Angel hair is a type of pasta. It's basically skinny spaghetti. And I fucking hate the shit. It never goes where you fucking want it to BECAUSE IT IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN!
Sorry. I worked in an italian restaurant for three years, making minimum fucking wage. And the owners were fucking assholes. I'm still kinda bitter.

There's over an hour left of the movie and, for the life of you, you can't actually remember a damn thing about it. There's some Mujadeen, the commander is an asshole, but after what Mr. Akiyama said, you can't actually concentrate on anything. Except that window- sitting there, taunting you with its promise of a fast escape.

"So..." Yukari says as you watch the last shots of the movie. "Great movie, huh?"

You absent-mindedly chew on a sugar cookie. "Oh totally!" You say, stirred out of replaying the conversation for the eighty-second time. "Can't believe I've never seen it..."

"Are you really okay?" She says, looking at you with worry. "You look tired and you've hardly said anything. And I've never seen someone drink hot tea like that..."

>"I'm fine... Just tired from all the activity today, I guess."
>"I don't know... I should probably get home and get some rest or something..."

You force a yawn out of yourself. "I'm fine..." You say, stretching your arms. "Just had a really busy day. Guess its catching up to me." When you look up understatement on wikipedia, that's the first example.

"You should probably get home-" Yukari says standing up, her face full of concern.

"Oh, I'm fine!" You protest weakly. "I really am fine!"

"C'mon! I'll walk to home." She says, helping you to your feet. "I don't think my parents would want you sleeping over..." She says with a smile.

Yeah, you aren't exactly sure about that. "I guess..." You say, stretching again and grabbing a cookie for the road. It isn't a very long walk back to your house, but you take your time, talking with Yukari about things like teachers, homework, and whether the German super-heavy tank concept would've created effective weapons.

As you arrive on your doorstep, an odd thought pops up in your head- against your better judgement you act on it. Turning to Yukari you give her a big hug. "Thanks for having me over, Yukari." You say, letting her go. "I'm really glad you joined the senshado team, and I'm really glad you're my friend."

She looks down blushing and kicking the ground idly. "Thanks... I'm... I'm really glad you're my friend, too!" She says with a wide smile before turning around and running off.

You smile to yourself. You need to go to the bathroom and puke, now.

We con Rose into pretending to be our girlfriend to get info out Roy, but then freak out when we talk to Yukari's dad?

Yep, confirmed for loving Fluffy.
>>

True, but also don't forget we consider Rose family. (as flattering/unflattering to her as that might be). And we didn't con her, she was more than willing to pull a trick on Richard!

Dammit, did we just accidentally friendzone the fluffy?

No, we're just advancing cautiously. Don't want to expose our side armor
>>
>>26855036
Okay.

I think we we ever need a grand romantic gesture, we should get a 1/35 scale tank kit (preferably a Polish 7TP, since that's her favourite) and hold it above our heads like a boombox.
