>Looking back in the beginning of the previous thread, I made a mistake and cut a portion of the dialogue, a mistake hopefully I will not make again, Should I plug it in somewhere?

“Good afternoon Professor. If you are free for a moment I will like to chat.” You asked the older man who merely nodded with a smile.

“Sure, I wanted to ask you some questions as well.”

You walk into his home and as like the day before it is filled with a variety of books, parts of his home look damaged from what seemed to be some type of experimentation and finally some type of small machinery on his desk though a bit more put together then yesterday. Once taking a seat the bald wizard sat behind his desk putting his things away. “Now what did you wanted to ask?”

“You probably heard by now of the fight between me and....”

“Mr.Gramont?” He filled in for you and you nodded.

“Yeah him, will that lead to any repercussions?” You asked in which case he can only frown and proceeded to fold his hand together and leans forward glaring at you.

“As a teacher you know that I don’t approve of someone beating on my students.” He stated as you return the glare and explaining what had happened that resulted into the duel.
>>
>>26815575

Once he had gotten the full details on what transpired all he could did was cover his hand over his face and sighed. “I had a feeling that might have been the case though considering your discipline, I've would thought you would've been able to avoid such confrontation especially from a child several years your junior but considering that you didn’t do any permanent damage to him and the fact you’re a familiar of Miss Valliere there won’t be any real repercussion though I still didn't see why you did so.”

“Well I couldn't let the half-pint deal with the fallout and from what I could tell suffered enough ridicule for something I partially did even though it was out of good will.” You explained causing his brow to rise slightly.

“Half-pint?”

“Miss Valliere, it’s a nickname, she doesn't know so don’t ask or tell.” You quickly explained before moving on to another thing he said. “Wait, Disciplined?”

He nods. “When you first landed here while you immediately pulled a handheld firearm at me how you did so was more of cautionary warning then hostility and more so that you aimed at me the oldest one rather than at my students.”
He pulls out his staff and places it near his desk. “And I can assume you know what would had happened if you had done so.”

You nodded and accepted the fact since if you were in his position you would have prepared yourself to do the same. “That doesn’t explain that you were the only one to react the way you did and from what I can tell they seemed like it was a joke.”

“Well they never have seen a firearm that small before.” He explained before looking at your rifle. “Or a musket of that design either.”

Musket? Okay you know that you’re stuck in some fantasy land in which the weaponry you have now is years before to call it a musket is a little insulting.

Considering one of your old superiors carried one and was more intimidating with it then any modern firearm.
>>
>>26815608

“So I can assume you are well acquainted with them?” You asked following one of the main principles of the Reserve Corp is to consider all and any avenues of weaponry available to you.
“I am not.” He replied shaking his head. “They are an uncommon weapon and from what I know they are produced in small numbers in this country.”

“However you know of it.” You pressed. “You even recognized the more hand-held version something in which would have taken more time to understand and develop.”

At this comment Colbert grimaced and looked very uncomfortable as if remembering something very unpleasant. A short moment of silence settled between the two of you before he began to speak up.

“I was part of the military in my younger days” He says with a dry tone in his voice. “A very secret part of the military of the Tristain government in which I’m no longer a part of and the less said about it the better but let’s just say that I was around long enough to recognize another soldier.”

You know better than to pry a person’s military career if they do not wish to say anything about so you nodded and change the subject.

“Then tell me about the government in Tristain what type is it?”

“It is a monarchy in which it is said that the royal line is the decedent of the founder himself.” He says as if giving a lecture to a student. “However the king had recently passed away leaving the princess Henrietta in line however…”
>>
>>26815635

“She is too young to lead and right now she's relying on her advisers.” You guessed and he nods at your response.

“You are correct, so is there anything else you wish to ask?”

>>
>>26816414
We can buddy it up with agnes as one soldier to another sure but there is no cheating on one of our own comrades in arms. We save ourselves for Maya
>>
>>26815653

“So the political situation is not exactly stable at the moment.” You sighed mentally cursing at the fact, though you didn’t serve through the worse part of your nations conflict your serve is enough to show how bad a weak government can be torn apart by opposition both inside and out. “I hope that she settles in without difficulty.”

You take a deep breath as you get ready to ask the most important question that has been welling within you since yesterday.

“Ok, though we pretty much been vague to each other on some personnel details as you can guess I’m not from this world.” You explained to the wizard as your brow begins to sweat slightly in nervousness as you continued. “I would like to seek a way to return to my homeland. When I was brought here it was in bad circumstances, my comrades probably think me vaporized by some kind of radical rebel weapon."

Colbert was silent though his eyes were widened slightly by the revelation of you being a person from another world but his brow furrowed when you mentioned of wanting to return home.

“It’s not that I don’t like this place it’s lovely and the magic here is impressive if not headache inducing.” You continued ignoring his expression as you keep talking. “but my comrades are probably sober by now and Maya will probably go on a rampage soon if I don-“

You’re not sure why you keep talking.

Your heart beating slightly faster and breathing slowly being a little erratic from his expression alone you understood what the answer will be. You’re a Corporal of the Tesenturian Reserve Corp; an experienced combat engineer that has built many fortifications to protect your comrades as often as you blew up the enemies, you understand from the time as a recruit that talking any more than necessary when you’re in hostile and unknown area will get you killed.
>>
>>26816514

You are a disciplined soldier that survived life and death battles while some of your comrades did not. You survived the war. Your can finally see your country at peace!

Yet when you see this Wizard’s face or rather his answer your mouth keeps moving as if to prevent or maybe change what he has to say.

Of course it was all in vain.

“I’m sorry but there is no way to return you home.”

And you finally become silent.

>What do you say or do?

*coughs to clear throat and inhales trying to keep his voice from cracking.* Then If I might make a request for two things. A bottle of the strongest alcohol you have, and a stringed instrument of some kind, preferably a guitar, if you have those."

Yeah time to drink alone tonight. And perhaps sings some songs of home.
>>
>>26816530
"Well, fuck. Fuckity fuck shit fuck cunt fuck bitch fuck whores!"

Take a deep breath and calm down.

"Are you sure? How often do you get people from different worlds? Does this mean you don't know any way to go home or that you know there is no way home?

For that matter why was I summoned? Everyone else seems to have animals, has anyone ever summoned a human like this before?"

Highest Roll: 18

Your body shakes as images of your home war ridden it may be but still your home and all the possibilities of seeing it change for the better, the comrades you made as you walk with them towards a new life besides holding a rifle or a knife, and the ones you lost and still have not yet buried.

You close it…all of the images.

You can’t break down here.

While you’re not in your homeland you still represent it…e-even if you can’t return.

“Give me the strongest drink you have and if possible a stringed instrument…” You mustered out though a bit shaky you managed to say it without breaking your voice.

If reading books of fantasy was a childhood pastime of yours then playing guitar or similar stringed instruments was a hobby of your limited time of adolescence in which you had practiced into your service years in the war.

While you won’t be getting any distinction or awards for your skill it was adequate enough to satisfy either your drunken comrades during the…harder times as well as good.

It has also calmed you when it was too dark to read and had nothing to do.

“I’m sorry; I try to not have liquor in the same place as I work.” He shakes his head but continues. ”Nor do I carry such instruments however I will try to look into this.”

He smiles at you like a teacher trying to console a student. “Just because there is no known way means there is no way at all, I will look into this as much as possible.”

You give him a respectful nod as you take his hand to shake it. “Thank you.”

He has answered your questions while asking only a few and is willing to help you despite not being necessary.

“Though I do wish to ask more about your world, the technology here intrigues me when we have the time of course.” He requested and considering what he’s done you gave another nod before leaving.

After taking some time to clear your mind of these matters you proceeded to head towards the kitchen but not before heading to towards the nearest water fountain and take the time to clean up (well as much as a soldier can with a military issued mess kit). Once you thought you look presentable you arrived only to be greeted by the scent of warm food though you maintain a disciplined posture your mouth can’t help but salivate a little due to the smell.

You opened the door to hear a loud cheer of what seem to be most if not all the service staff Siesta included greeted you with a loud cheer and a raise with their mugs. In the center was a large man with a clean shaven beard wearing a chef’s hat and uniform and opened his arms to you.

“Greetings our warrior! For we gathered here to celebrate your victory here today!”

You had a long day and after many events and information similar to that as the day before but unlike the previous day, you are greeted with cheers.

And your response

“I uh buh wha. Huh?”

Yeah, very articulate

“Hahaha, it seems that our warrior is quite confused by this surprise.” Howled the large man with the chef’s uniform. “Didn't you tell him of the party?”

“Pa-party?” The maid stood up from her seat. “You said it was only a dinner how did it became a party, Marteau”

“Well what did you expect if the entire serving staff and kitchen staff would want a glimpse of the warrior who defeated a mage in single combat no less?” The Chef known as Marteau roared as he patted you heavily on the back causing you to tilt over slightly from the shock. “Now what say you warrior, shall we celebrate?”
Your mind can barely comprehend what was happening but was very slowly piecing it together.

"Wait, so beating up a kid, even though he's a spoiled brat, warrants a celebration?” You said realizing what you meant and surprised at the purpose of this celebration and frankly it kind of bothers you that you are rewarded for beating the blond.

“What is it warrior is something the matter?”

Until the smell of the food fills your nostrils and the mugs filled with liquor glitter in the candlelight.

“...Fuck it, I need something to get my mind off...things. Celebration it is."

This actually ties into the weirdness of Saito being the hero of the common man in the story at the beginning.

We court the princess. We become king and then slowly change the political system from above.
>>
>>26823328
We need to pique her interest.
Upon the introduction, you need to put emphasis on the fact that you're a soldier of the proud and GLORIOUS People's Free Democratic REPUBLIC of Tessenturia.

Her reaction will determine the next course of action.

If they think democracy is just a fancy dream, you can deploy a massive culture shock.

If they've never heard of the concept, you can deploy a massive culture shock.

If they know of it and are hostile to the entire concept, then we can abuse the fact that autocrats respond to all opposition with violence and rally a massive support all the while sparking an industrial revolution.

But at this point our character hardly has any motivation to start getting involved in foreign politics.
Only after he accepts that he's stuck here will he have motivation to build a future for himself here.

Are you aware of the old observation that the more adjectives relating to "people" and "freedom" are in a nations name, the less likely it is to actually be free and run by the people? There are a few exceptions, but really?
>implying an industrial revolution will be good for the poor folks
It won't. Not while it's going on.

She can't do that I'm afraid.
Royalty has a duty to go through a political marriage wether they like it or not.

Unless you prove yourself to be unstoppable god of war or seize control of the country's financial assets, you're probably not going to get anywhere via that route.

That's pretty much exactly what being the Gandalfr makes us. It's also what being the only one who knows how to use things like the Staff of Destruction makes us.

Nitric acid, a touch of sulphuric acid, cotton. Won't be the best thing ever, but it'll go boom. And as others have said, blackpowder can work too.

>>
It's an enjoyable movie. Partly due to Yuri's constant smartass comments in the narration. As long as you don't delude yourself into thinking Yuri is a good person. Because he's not. He is a bad man who sells arms to other bad men.
>>
Allright, what do you say if we start going Blood Ravens up in this crib?
We start hoarding artifacts, magical and non-magical for study and possible future use.

We will try to unlock what gives these people the ability to use magic and steal it for our country.

We need somebody to teach us to read their language though so we can raid their library, we've got plenty of possibilities here, we can put up an ultimatum for Louise that we demand knowledge in exchange for future services.
Colbert seems pretty interested in us, so we could make a deal with him, though Yuri probably wouldn't want to do that.
We could also manipulate Guiche to teach us, making him seem like an honorable gentleman that doesn't hold a grudge over duel, but instead honours the victor.
Siesta knows how to read at least, so there's that as well, but I wouldn't recommend that route because she probably wants the D.
>>
>>26824306
Now I wonder:
Was it ever established what happens if a commoner uses a wand?
>>
>>26824348
It was never established in the show, maybe it was in the books, but I never read those.
That's exactly why I'm curious.

There's apparently a limit to how much mages can cast per day, so I'd expect some sort of mana system, so if that's the case, we just need to steal objects that contain raw magical energy (These exist, the airships in ZnT run on them) and create essentially figure out a way to create wands with a slot for a magazine or battery that can be loaded with magic, afterwards we need a way to drain magic from nature itself.
>>
>>26824471
You know, I'd support this plan if we were doing a crossover with our MC being a Nanosuit v2 wearer or Alex Mercer or something superhumanly smart and capable like that.
But this is beyond the scope of a simple grunt. Even for a war veteran engineer.
>>
>>26824528
That's why we need to raid the library and for that we need to learn how to read to figure out if it's even possible for commoners to gain magical powers.

If the concept is possible, we just need to find somebody smart enough to bring the thing into reality.
Besides, even if it's not possible, we can still start hoarding the magical items normal people use.
>>
We need to figure out one thing.
How does one know if he is a mage or not if there's no wand to cast spells with?

One thing that always bothered me in ZnT is that they never explored wether Saito could potentially perform magic or not as they never tried figuring out, they just automatically assumed.

>Just so you know, I'm going to update very sparingly today due to a family partly but again, I'll do my best.

You take a seat between Siesta and Marteau and raise a cup of wine. “A toast to new friends, comrades, and alcohol.”

You proceeded to down the cup of wine and shortly afterwards several others it might have been a concerning issue but few of the other staff was keeping up with your pace and even more surpassed it. It was at this time when you were trying to finish your wine with some of the food that was prepared that Marteau slapped your back. “How is the food warrior? Though they are just reused leftovers it is to your liking?”

You nod as you continued to eat your fill before asking. “Though why you call me warrior?”

“Because we heard of your heroic battle against that pompous mage in which you used your wits and strength to overcome overwhelming odds.” He laughs before slapping his hand jollying at your back irritating your bruises. “Though accounts seem very sketchy at best so please share with us your tale of combat!’

Guys I might be gone for awhile due to the party but I'll try to be back when I can.

Though I have a question, in the novel and in some parts of the anime, they can of timeskip a few days to a week (sometimes more but I need to think a bit more on that)

>>
>>26824306
>We will try to unlock what gives these people the ability to use magic and steal it for our country.
>you are now aware that modern tech already trumps their magic
Seriously, the Staff of Destruction, which is treated with awe at it's incredible power, is a vietnam-era M72 Light Anti-tank Weapon. A single Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" that had been sitting in a cave for decades, piloted by a teenager with no combat experience, utterly devastated a rather large military force. A Mitsubishi F-2A "Viper Zero" pushed in the Ancient Dragon's shit. In the ZnTverse, Earth-tech trumps Halkeginian magic.
Well, except for the Utility Magic. Stuff like Water mages healing, Earth mages transmuting, that's useful. But it won't really do much for our homeland militarily.
>>
>>26830204
>Implying we can actually move enough of the artifacts to make a reasonable difference, or that they even work at all back in Tesenturia
>>
>>26830204
Well in all fairness this is the first time they had encountered supersonic weaponry, and most of the Earth weaponry had the element of surprise in terms of it's destructive power. Given the time magic would probably be able to come up an appropriate countermeasure, however supersonic bullets are used so little that there is not enough raw data to form a countermeasure.

When we meet Agnes we can easily pass down the most basic of firearm upgrades such as rifling and shaped bullets. Also depending on their level of advancement in the field of firearms we could also pass down things like paper cartridges or even something akin to a bolt feed for a cartridge. (Meaning rack the bolt out, insert the cartridge, then prime the hammer.) Which would also necessitate percussion caps. Damn the non-industrialized world

I wonder if earth magic can be used for fabrication purposes and not just transmutation. on the bright side if their transmutation follows equivalent exchange (which it looks to from the first episode) then materials will not be in short supply. Brass, iron, and perhaps even certain chemicals and compounds could be created through transmutation.

>>26825575
Also after a day or so to let the bruises rest we should make sure that we keep up PT. There may be lots of good food around but it is important to stay combat fit.
>>
>>26831610
If I remember correctly, there is a chemistry lab (or it's equivalent) in the school where they made fuel. If we wanted to make pure alcohol fuel, we need sugar, water, and a distillery. I'm also pretty sure they have sugar around here somewhere.

We need around 3-10 days to produce it.
>>
>>26831919
Ok sweet then. So the facilities to create compounds already exist. And on the plus side we can make our own booze to drink....just never let Louise in this room. It'll go up higher than a chinese firework maker on new years

You take a moment to contemplate on how much you’re willing to say but considering the vague details you told Louise and Siesta about how you took down the blond and decided you might as well. You retold on how you decided to tell them in the same fashion though for some reason the service staff and chefs gathered closer around you trying to catch every word you said, their eyes twinkle with fascination in what you have to say.

“In short, the odds were in my favor from the beginning.” You told your gathering audience as you gave the vague details of the fight. “I had all available information about him at the time and could form a proper strategy while he underestimated me and thought of me as an uppity peasant with a stick.”

You sip your wine feeling the alcohol slowly taking effect on your system before continuing.

“I wouldn't have accepted if I wasn't sure I could restrain him but I was worried since I had heard he was from a military family.”

You sighed thinking that you may have overestimated him a bit but then shrugged slightly considering it’s better to overestimate and overwhelm him then underestimate and face the possibility of defeat by being unprepared.
Your enemies had often done this before when they invaded your country after all and were dealt with accordingly.

“However he was inexperienced and untrained and at best it was harder to not kill him than it was to lose.”

As you gave your final assessment there was a moment of silence before Marteau laughed hardily and continue to slap you on the back in joy. “As expected of our warrior he prepares ahead of time and plan things out before setting on a objective, you boys should learn something from him considering you can’t even prepare a meal without me pulling your asses out of the fire!”

The laughter spread throughout the group even Siesta laughs at the small group of embarrass chefs who were also smiling.

It was nice…

Ok OP question here. What kind of uniform are we wearing? >>26841805
The winter uniform is similar to that of the Red Army in WW2 the spring and summer uniform is slightly leaning towards more of the American/British/Allies though with more padding (especially since we have the light body armor) due to the easier manufacturing cost and to equip everyone.

The alcohol must be getting to you as the image of laughter and drunken activity begins to overlap with an image only a couple days before.

Right before you was sent here.

It was strange that despite being felt so far from home that this image, this moment felt like home.

"Thank you for this. Being brought to a new land out of the blue away from what I knew has been hard, but with friends like you it will make the stay that much easier, cheers." You raise a cup while you thanked them which were responded by another clang of drinks and laughter.

A couple hours past and the food and drink were slowly drained though you tried to sing countries of your homeland either due to the slurring of your voice or just your bad singing in general you were quickly bombarded with empty cups and plates.

Yup, just like back home.

However after those couple of hours everyone started to head back either due to them being unable to continue or having work early in the morning.

Highest Roll: 12

You yourself having probably had a bit too much wine were barely able to stand let alone walk properly though to your merit you were able to hold your wine without vomiting so you didn't disgrace yourself as a citizen of your nation.
“Hmm, it seems our warrior had a bit too much to drink.” Marteau muttered though a bit flushed seemed perfectly fine even though he probably out drank everyone in the room as he grabs onto your wavering form. “Hey, Siesta carry him back to the little noble will ya?”

“Eh?” She raises her head up in surprise her cheeks a bit colored despite being the only one restricted from having a drink for some strange reason. “W-Why?”

“You’re the only sober one.” He declares before pointing at you. “and he’s out of it and not to mention you need to also hold onto his gift since he might lose it if he carried it on his person.”
>>
>>26842677

With that line of reasoning she accepted while Marteau gave her your gift while mumbling a few thing you can’t quite make out and with one arm wrapped around her shoulder she escorted you back.

“Sorry.” You slurred as you try your best to not burden the girl you the half-pint’s room.

“It’s no problem at all.” She shakes her head as if not saying you’re a bother. “Actually I’m kind of happy to see you this way.”

“Happy?”

“Yes, since earlier when I met you seemed very serious even frightening so when you asked Miss Valliere for information despite willing to help me out with the cart.” She said pausing for a moment a smile forming on her lips before continuing. “But in the party you seemed to be having a lot of fun even laughing and singing even though you’re kind of bad at it.”

You nod having heard about this before and even agreeing your singing is terrible.

“Not to mention you even beat a noble and without any trouble at all just to help defend Miss Valliere.”

Huh?

“Even the help knows about Miss Valliere’s nickname and while we treat the nobles just the same we are aware of the pecking order in the social circles of nobles and ignoring it like it is none of our business.” She explained as you reach the doorway and slowly began to walk up the stairs. “However you ignored that despite having been summoned to deal with Miss Valliere, you still helped her and I find that quite admirable.”

You nodded dimly slowly registering what she has to say just as you reach the doorway leading to the half-pint’s dorm.
“and the gift?”

“Oh, Mr. Martearu gave you an empty wine-skin mentioning that you had enough but is willing to fill it up for you every now and again.”

You mentally thanked the Chef and was about to do so verbally until Siesta opened the door to reveal a slightly annoyed half-pint in a night-gown with her arms crossed and her foot tapping on the stone floor.

“He…ehey..lou..louis..” You begin to say your mind muddled with liquor as it came across a problem.

What was her name again?

Lou..Luey? Vascular?...something, something…

…Fuck it.

“Half-pint!” You bellowed your head nodding at your naming prowess your line of sight avoiding her twitching hand and wand. “Just experiencing the local cuisine.”

You take this sudden bout of energy to stand or rather stagger on your feet causing even Siesta to take a few steps back to help support you before swinging a pointed finger at her.

“Man you people are a buncha lightweights. I bet you like thounsands of rubububules or whatever your currency is that I could outdrunk anyone in this place...cept Maya she could outdrink us all.” You declared thinking of her and that liver of iron in which she proudly named herself even your fellow medic were baffled on how she could outdrink men twice and at one occasion three times her size. Except that one time our musket wielding superior dragged her out and outdrank her then proceeded to the shit out of her then the rest of us in an all-out brawl as a form of ‘disciplinary action’

The Reserve Corp was forever banned at that bar…for the third time.

What can you say, the corp pay was good.

“God I miss her." You mumbled before landing on your hay bed forgetting to set up your sleeping kit. “Miss them all.”

Just before your eyes closed and your mind surrendering to the darkness which was liquor induced sleep, you begin to half-mumbled old drinking songs back home before being hit in the face with your new wine-skin before knocking out entirely.

>Okay judging by the novel/anime/timeline and my notes, you have roughly a week before of free time what do you do?

That is a question you must answer for yourself. As the questmaster, if you want to go the lewd way, then certainly, we can play out the sexual tension. If you want to keep this light because you don't feel like writing smut, then we can just wave the sexual tension away, and restrain ourselves to innuendoes and shenanigans.
>>
>>26843802
Well the reason for that is that are you willing to stay in the dorm with a bunch of teenage girls or try to bunker down and set up camp somewhere (in campus)
>>

>>Also are you comfortable with the fact that you a man are in a dorm filled with teenage girls and living with one in a nightgown?
I don't think he really cares. And better we are in Louise's room, because then we won't be a bad influence on the boys.

Anyway, in that week of free time we should start chatting up local people. We need to get contacts that can provide supplies for us.
Let's get started with simple stuff. I heard the smoke grenades should be easy to produce.
And it's supposedly possible to use gunpowder on one of our guns.
>>
>>26843719
I can think of two things right off the bat that we should be doing with the time
1. Spend the morning doing PT. Laps around the academy, pushups with out kit strapped to our back, things like that. Gotta keep in shape, despite the odd looks we may get for chanting both halves of a cadence while running laps.
2. Spending time learning the language to read from, see if Colbert or Louise could point us to some light reading suitable for learning.

As far as the tension goes I think >>26843802
has it correct. It's up to you, although I think that our own professionalism not to mention the air of authority from Colbert's warning that keeps us in line, however I think that we can deal with girls in nightgowns if we can deal with co-ed armed forces. Mostly by keeping Mama Ivanov or our drill instructor and the smack down they would pay upon us should we step over the line.

Hmmm.... Well, I don't think Yuri would mind staying with them, but in pragmatic sense it really wouldn't do him any good.

Base of operations could be useful.
>>
>>26843876
I think this is a good solution at this point.

We don't have anything secret enough that would require a base of operations to be constructed nor do we have materials to start manufacturing anything to a hidden cache.
>>
>>26843833
Okay so we stay in Louise's dorm for now.

However I still need some consensus on what we do for the week
>>
>>26844022
Stay in shape, build a network of contacts and supplies.
>>
In the long run, we need our ethanol. It can be used as fuel, ammunition for Molotovs, adhoc disinfectant, and anesthetic, but as of now.

>>26844022

Build up a list of contacts and find out where all the raw resources are.
>>
>>26843876
Getting gunpowder is the easy, but getting primer is hard.
If I remember correctly, in the show they were unable to reproduce cartridges with magic.

Unless we find a way to start producing percussion caps, our mosin nagant is getting it's ammo only from looting.
Besides, with our knowledge we can obsolete all of their rifles any time we want by introducing breech loading mechanism, pre-packaged cartridges, rifling and aerodynamic bullets, which will make old smoothbore muzzle loaders and blackpowder horns horribly insignificant.
>>
Also remember to work on the written language.
You want to be able to leave and receive messages.
>>
>>26844081
So find contacts, stay in shape, and get resources?
>>
>>26844202
I wonder if we can reproduce an early-revolver with their tech?
>>
>>26844261
That sounds about right.
>>
>>26844152
This. Contacts, raw resources, and suppliers.
Knowing where an iron mine is isn't worth shit unless we can get colbert or someone to bring us the materials.

That said, Colbert is one of the few people in this universe who could help us, and we could definitly help him, so we should try and get him on our side.
>>
>>26844202
They might not be able to produce the cartridge whole, primer and all but they should be able to make the separate components such as the casing and bullet easily. The prime we are going to have to experiment to create,

>>26844261
and start learning how to read.

>>26844262
At most without primer we could produce a breach-loaded, rifled musket that uses paper cartridges.
>>
>>26844022

>>26844081
>>26844152

These.
>>
How useful do you think a shotgun will be in this era?
>>
I think we all need another dose of
>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp8hvyjZWHs
to remind us of our unique slavic engineering capabilities.

We won't build a steam engine, we'll build a distillery that generates electricity by accident.

We won't be able to make more cartriges, we'll build a shovel bazooka.
>>
>>26844152
Speaking of medicine, we should invent vaccination. The process is simple enough to create a vaccine using a pot of boiling water and a culture sample.
>>
>>26844365
Now I'm really regretting that we did not have the opportunity to bring this poster:>>26843938
>>
>>26844328
Probably reasonably effective, and not the hardest thing to use.

We should also probably acquire a sword some time and see if we can't learn to use one. We only have so much ammo, it might be more efficient at times to stab people.
>>
>>26844328
Probably pretty useful, considering the close range at which mages seem to fight. Although something to get would be some sort of telescope for our rifle. As well as some burlap to wrap our rifle in and cover our self in
>>
>>26844365
We're a combat engineer from a small second world country. Not only that, but we're a combat engineer from the /reserves/. We can dig a mean trench, blast through a door, bring down a fort and set up a forward HQ, but I don't think we can make vaccines.

This week has been an attempt to keep you occupied. After finding out you won’t be going home anytime soon or if at all you try to settle for some normalcy in your life.

Like wake up in the early in the morning, do some light workouts and training, eat breakfast, play with the dragon, see some magic classes, help the maids…

You’re starting to wonder if your sense of normalcy is becoming warped.

Highest Roll: 12

You decided to perhaps establishing some contacts or connections will help you so you decided to try to talk to others. Though unfortunately the help while interested in you and grateful for you helping them every now and again was only turned to acquaintances at best. The nobles were weary to even look at you considering that you defeat the blond in the duel. However there were a few notable acquaintances that you further develop slightly
.
Marteau in which you took up on his offer about refilling your new wine-skin every now and again the day after a couple days after the party and was a great comfort to you whenever you see something that threatens your insanity…like that accursed bugbear.

Siesta always greets you with a smile and often chats with about a variety of thins such as gossip and news, you even learn that she is the oldest of eight kids which is surprising but after learning that her family owns a farm less so since they need the labor to support it.

Professor Colbert on the other-hand questioned the things about your world and was amazed with the technological develops such as machines that fly in high speed and self-propelled carriages but was disappointed to know that your country has endured several decades of war but was slightly comforted or perhaps pitted you that others notable countries had not had a real war for decades.
>>
>>26846362

Half-pint after promptly experiencing detonated explosives while running after waking up from the party and possibly having the quickest hangover in history after the rush. You kept some formality with her as you always have some negotiations about treating you like a person rather than a dog. Though some things still stood like her twitchy wand arm, and the eating arrangements in which you eat outside now.

There was one new contact in which you became acquainted which was Kirche the Ardent Zerbst in which while you know her as Half-pint’s mortal enemy and the owner of the fire salamander a being in which despite seeing it before makes you take a sip of your wineskin which escorted you. It was then you realize that on some level she was attracted to you which wouldn’t have been much of a problem in itself but when you were in her room as she tried to seduce several other boys came in asking why I was there and her setting ‘appointments’, you quickly excused yourself when she was distracted.

Highest Rolls: 17

However in comparison to your attempt at contract making you decided to find resources around the campus and food a surplus of natural goods. What you find over the week was a good amount of firewood, game such as deer and rabbits something that the dragon and Marteau appreciated when you came back with some, and some small sources of flint in small pockets which will make a good fire-started but nothing of big importance.

Highest Roll: 13+3=16

Unknown variable activate

Reading again was not so successful for a while only judging by context clues and some cards that Colbert made for you in his spare time of his busy schedule in which shows a picture and a word. Slowly overtime though you begin to see some of the words change into the language you’re familiar with. You don’t understand why but you stopped a bit after only figuring out some signs and an idea of basic sentences.
>>
>>26846393

You again wake up early in the morning as usual but to your surprise to the Half-pint already awake and ready.

“About time you woke up; get ready so we can go.”

>What do you say or do
>>
>>26846409
Where are we going? I had some plans today.
>>

>>
>>26846598
Have some work to do, going to finish this up before continuing.

Also we only have one set of clothes (our uniform), so we had to clean them every couple of days though you do see a certain fire lizard peeking at you when you do clean
>>
>>26846867
>fire lizard

>>
>>26847146

To see a lizard who's tail is on fire bothers him

Ask where we are going and pack out stuff. So... if we are stuck here, are we our own superior officer, or do we accept that "magic lololo" and consider her our superior?
>>
>>26847188
So I guess he didn't pick Charmander as his starter then, eh?
>>
>>26847327
A little of both, I will like to think so far considering that you in kind of unknown territory and she needs a familar.

Also not to mention she is feeding you and housing you too.

However you do have your own judgement and on several occasions you have negotiations with her
>>
>>26847327
I think there are only a handful of people we would actually salute, being Osman, the princess, and agnes.
>>
>>26847432
Agree wholeheartedly with that
>>
>>26847432
Not to mention Karin
>>
>>26847821
We would give her the same type of respect which is to stand at attention/ease when need be but she is not a military commander, royalty, nor someone who has earned our respect (at this point
>>

So we salute Tabitha when the time comes as well?

True, I forgot that she's a retired commander.
>>
>>26847950

>>26848251

I'm actually surprised we haven't met her, seeing as we hang with the dragon nearly everyday
>>
>>26848251
For a few seconds, no formal introduction or anything... yet.
>>
>>26848311
>>26848313
We should really introduce ourselves to her soon. She may grow suspicious.
>>
>>26848355

It's just the dragon that we hang out with and feed. We know very little else about it.

>>26848355
Suspicious of the person who seems to be romancing her dragon?

I don't see why anyone would be suspicious of that.

>>
>>26851187
May I suggest getting a twitter

So we can at least know when the thread is up and what thread?
>>
Just me musing to bump the thread, but until we actually come across a weapon we have no idea how to use, such as the A6M5 it will be hard to beg down the fact that we are Gandalfr, due to our natural training with weapons, and our reluctance to use anything either than our bayonette, or Moisin (although why use anything else). Actually it might be a good idea to invest the time/effort into making/aquiring a bow so that we have a ranged weapon that isn't limited by our awesome but scarce bullets. Actually we could probably use our engineering skills to make a pretty bitching compound bow with an earth mages help.
>>
Oh dear, I sense that the familiar talentshow thing is nearing.
We need to think how to handle this without expending our limited resources.
>>
>>26853968
True, also, that bow would also be useful for hunting down game. We could gain some money by selling skins, meat, horns and teeth.
>>
>>26854094
I don't think we should go and beat up another student, it might not go over well. They would probably not be impressed by how fast we can dig a trench.

We can play the guitar. That's a talent. Or tell dirty jokes.
>>
>>26854244
Yeah the guitar playing does seem to be the best option at the moment, just so long as we don't start singing.

But we should play something interesting and challenging to play for the crowd. Maybe something like Zorba the Greek
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVIOWkk3c0E

or Korobushka
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9A2K2Bf-aQ

Also for anyone still on I found the lyrics for the song of remembrance. I tweaked the lyrics of Ich hatte einen Kameradrn.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5j-9cCHkq8
Original for anyone interested. I kind of imagine Yuri either sitting in a windowsill, or ontop of the wall with a bottle of alcohol singing this.

Oh I once had a comrade.
Oh I once had a friend.
More than just simple soldiers.
Comrades in arms were we.

The drums of war called.
So we stepped from our door
and were soldiers forever more.

Though death gazed on our company
I took bullet for him(her)
and he(she) blade for me.

Then fate's cruel hand approached.
Was it meant for you or me.
Torn apart without a goodbye
It feels like a piece of me will die.

So goodbye my comrade
goodbye my friend
Till we meet again in heaven
My precious comrade.

>Sorry, I've been meaning to update a couple of hours ago but had to attend a family meal.

“You’re up early.” You said as you begin to stretch and gathered your kit. “What’s the occasion?”

“What you don-“The Half-Pint said but stops she probably realizing that you indeed do not know and need to explain some of the customs to you. “Today is the day of the void, it is a day of rest so we do not have classes for the day.”
You nodded noticing and appreciating the gesture for the little noble before continuing. “So where are we going, I had plans today?”

“Besides training?”

“Yes, besides training.”

“Besides feeding the Tabitha’s familiar?”

She was probably mentioning the blue dragon since it was also a familiar and the only being you fed besides the Zerbst’s fire lizard who occasionally showed up to steal from the blue dragon who you fed but besides that you had plans.

“And besides going hunting.” You said shaking her head in disbelief. “Seriously you’re a soldier not some backwoods huntsman, right?”

“It gives me something to do.” You replied in your defense kind of picked it up from your more woodsmen comrades in your unit and sometimes out of desperation to supplement your rations or if you had any if the supply lines were scarce. “Besides if I were truly some hunter back home, they will be able to nab much bigger game then these underweight rabbit and critters.”

“We do you have anything besides that?”

“….”

“Then that’s settled we’re going to the nation’s capital.” She declares taking your silence as a defeat before pointing a finger at you. “I’m going to instill some culture into you and considering what you’re new hobby is, might as well find something else for you to do or at least get some new clothes.”

>What do you say or do.
>>
>>26863884
"Eh...sure. Give me a second to feed the dragon though. How much do I owe you for the clothes?"
>>
>>26863884
"Well I suppose my uniform does stand out a bit. Is this a gift? or is there a future favor attached?"
>>
>>26863884
"Culture? *give out an amused chuckle* Allright then, I'm ready to be amazed."
"By the way, while we're in there I'd like to take a look of the musical instruments you use in here, I play a bit of guitar myself."
>>
>>26864238
This.
Also, if we're in the capital we might be able to connect with some local artificers. If we know people like that our ability to create more complex devices will be greatly increased.

Yeah. Our most immediate need of things we need created are bullets. We will run out of those eventually, and without them any combat advantage we have is gone.

Also, we should stick a bit closer to Louise. We seem to keep running off without her, or keeping her out of things. If we want the continued protection of the school, we need to be in her favor.
>>
>>26864442
We don't want to show our bullets though.
To my knowledge they may not even have prepackaged cartridges (like used on napoleonic era)

We don't want to start giving them ideas, since if they're capable of producing them, they'll just steal the concept and start pumping them out without giving us jack shit and become rich.

We may want to find a guy who makes black powder and then we can think about finding an alchemist who could make us primer so we can start making percussion caps and through them, blackpowder bullets with modern casing.
>>
>>26863884

“Well I suppose my uniform does stand out a bit.” You muttered before looking down at your uniform a bit wrinkled but still serviceable though you are well aware from extended periods in the front how fast these will wear out if abused. You need to be careful considering you have no replacements. “Is this a gift? Or is there a future favor ahead?”

“Well of course it’s to save for a favor in the future considering you won’t listen to me and always run off when I tell you to stay by my side as a proper familiar.” She answered giving a small ‘humph’ while crossing her arms. “Not to mention your clothes is starting to make the others students uncomfortable.”

Well that will explain the stares and them making way for you when you walk through the castle with some small game in tow.

“Well who am I to deny a gift.” You shrugged as you gear up and follow the half-pint to the capital.

Which took several hours to get to the blasted
place on horse no less!

Even though you’re a soldier of the Reserve Corp and had to deal with many situations and method of transportation but never in your military career you rode a horse before. Sure, you ridden in a carriage which was a pain in itself but riding a damn horse who seemed too smug for its own good for several hours.

You rather march…in the mud while raining under gunfire.

Or rather shoot the damn beast of burden but you need to save on bullets.

However once arriving and shakily dismount from the prick of a horse you begin to slowly take in the sight before you. Narrow streets, people buzzing about, shops from side to side, and in the center of everything was a castle similar to those of the picture books you read as a child.

No bombed out buildings,

No observation posts

No military emplacements

Things to do, get clothes, preferably tough, rugged clothing, like what a reasonably well off woodsman would wear. Take a look at bows, knives, and swords, we won't always be using our rifle and ammo is limited with it, so we may as well see what we can acquire locally.

Other luxury items might be nice, candy, sweets, and so on.

Someone call the fucking fashion police because we about to be swag as fuck.
>>
>>26866195
Regardless of our outfit, when we go out we should wear our cuntcap (if we have one, since OP never specified if we did or didn't have a cuntcap or a helmet)
>>
>>26866251
>>26866274
Just to clarify, these are both mine, so disregard one of them.
>>
>>26866280
We actually did not have any head wear since any extra helmets weren't in the armory and the cuntcap we might have worn would have been blown away during the ambush.

Thankfully we're not trying to make anything purple. Historically purple is a bitch on fire to make good dyes for and worth its weight in gold. You can fake it with woad and madder, but to get a deep solid purple you are going to pay out the nose. Scarlets are hard, but nowhere near as bad, and a lot of reds aren't really that hard if we have access to madder root, which is pretty wide spread.

Getting browns isn't that hard, between woad, dyer's broom, and some other stuff with the proper mordants we can get a decent selection of browns, yellows, and browns. If we have access to walnut that makes it a lot easier, but walnut was New World so we might not have them here. Then again this place probably has whatever plants the writer wanted and they didn't think too much about this.

They'll be muted colors of course, but that's what we want. We won't be getting a good selection of bright and vivid colors, if we want a vivid green we'll have to use fucking arsenic.

It'll also be hard to get a good solid black, it'd either take a lot of dyings with woad and mordanting, or using a plant native to Mexico which might not be available.

Obviously feel free to ignore this because we're in a fucking fantasy world and I'm just blathering about random dyes.

You’re awe-stricken as you take a moment at the scenery before looking back at the half-pint. “Amazing.”

She again lifts her head up high obviously pleased with your amazement. “Of course, this is the capital so of course it is the grandest-“
"It's like I've gone four hundred years to the past, just like in old history books" You finished off making the half-pint deflate a bit.

“Hey, are you insulting the capital?” She asks her brow twitching and her hand twitching back to her wand in which you look back with an almost care-free grin.

“No not at all.” You replied. “It just looks so nice and peaceful. No sign of war, aside from the castle which is obviously a military emplacement as well for housing the nobility. It’s like looking at the picture books I read as a kid.”

Your expression and how you described the city confused her obviously throwing her off her usual ‘get angry, pull wand’ routine before asking. “Your country, it’s not like this?”

You shake your head. “Not even close.”
There was a moment of eerie silence before the half-pint snorted before walking ahead of you.
“Come on, we don’t have all day so let’s go look around and I got my allowance so I can splurge a little but remember you owe me.”

--

You take the time to tour through the city looking at the various shops and goods that the merchants are selling in the stands and the general easy-going feeling in the streets.

It kind of makes you wonder how your country is doing during its reconstruction. Just as your thoughts go through that line of thinking it was quickly taken away by the first thing to do today.

To go shopping for clothes.

While the merchant had a wide selection of clothing, the higher quality goods were reserved for the nobles. Though you managed to scrape together an outfit that won’t embarrasses the half-pint and fit your sense of style. You gotten a brown tunic, with some pants of a rough but durable material, a pair of leather shoes, and a matching cloak making you look like a glorified Shepard.

Highest Roll 19

Once you exited the shop something caught your eye at a nearby stand.

A guitar.

The merchant says it was some offshoot of the lute or whatever medieval instrument in which you didn't care and after asking to test it out and play a few tunes in which you managed to gather a small crowd.
Half-pint managed to get a discount on the guitar due to the attention you’re getting for the merchant’s stand.

Highest Roll 15

However as you take a look through the crowd as you continue your melody you vaguely notice a couple of exotic hair colors though one seems familiar.

Hey Halp-Pint, recognize that hair? It seems familiar.

Also, we'd better be playing to the best of our abilities. We must woo the local women.

I'm not normally a "stop having fun" guy, but I feel the need to repost a random anon's comments about that sheet from a previous thread since you seem to be using it as a serious suggestion.

>>26726223
This sheet only provides vague general concepts. If you don't understand the underlying principles, the mechanics, the biology or the physics of these inventions, this data is only useful for impressing other nerds.

Chemical formulas like "C5H5NO2" and "C20H26O2" will not help you make superglue or contraceptives one bit. There are millions of molecules with exactly the formula "C20H26O2", and even if you knew which one, you have no idea what stuff to mix together to make it. It's wasted space on this sheet.

Thanks to the precession of the Earth's axis, and depending on how far back in time you go, Polaris may not be the north star. This may complicate your efforts to mine that cryolite.

The penicillin thing at least gives you some vague instructions, but starts with the assumption that any old mold is automatically going to be chrysogenum and not some random and possibly deadly fungus. There are lots of Penicillium, they all look the same, and they're not all safe, or you could cure yourself by eating nearly any moldy meat or cheese. It'll still take probably years of trial and error to make penicillin, if you're lucky and get access to the resources you need.

Aluminium electrolysis is a large consumer of electricity, using anywhere from 15,000 to 16,000 kilowatt hours of electricity to produce one ton of aluminium, so that's a definite non-starter for any pre-industrial society.

Keep on playing, try to recognize who it is, I mean people's hair colors around here are often pretty distinct. Most people don't have bright blue hair for one.

Don't go and bother them, it's their day off after all and we're busy playing, but if they come over to listen acknowledge them with a nod.

And we're on page 9, so a new thread is in order pretty soon.
