Predator Quest: Episode 49

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue. Your investigations have ultimately led you to Earth - where you will strike out at Weyland-Yutani's headquarters.

With the cruiser destroyed, you turn your fleet's attention to the sole remaining traitor ship, still exchanging fire with the human fleet.

The human fleet, along with Ashen-Blade's hunter-killer ship, far outweigh the lone cruiser in tonnage, but the cruiser's plasma cannons gives it an overwhelming advantage.

The cruiser takes another volley of human missiles to its forward section, but in return, several plasma bolts carve through the human ship's hulls, resulting in a splattering of fireballs as oxygen is expelled violently from sudden decompression.

Do you:

A. Order a torpedo volley at the traitor's cruiser to get its attention.
B. Open a communication channel to the cruiser, and demand its surrender.
C. Hold your ground, and focus on getting rid of the enemy small craft before engaging the cruiser.

You open a comms channel with the Silver-Tempest and give the order.

The battleship's missile bays once again open, and a dozen fission torpedoes streak towards the traitor's cruiser.

The cruiser, its point defenses already overwhelmed by the abundant human missiles, only manage to shoot down four, allowing the remaining eight to slam into its hull.

Explosion after explosion rock the cruiser, tearing it apart. Once the debris clears, half of the cruiser's mid section has been blown apart, and the entirety of its forward compartments are vaporized.

Surprisingly, its engine and reactor are still operational. It begins to turn, and prepare for jump into foldspace.

Do you:

A. Allow it to jump, and attempt to track its trajectory.
B. Fire a second volley of fission torpedoes and destroy it.
C. Fire a volley of disruptor torpedoes and attempt to disable it.

You give the order to launch a second volley. The new wave of torpedoes strike the cripple cruiser along the aft section, and the resulting explosions turn it into a cloud of debris.

The remaining enemy ships, seeing the destruction of their capital ships, begin to lose heart. Some turn tail and run, but most are mowed down by your fleet.

Slowly, ship by ship, friendly reinforcements begin to trickle in piecemeal. They tear into the remaining traitors with fury and anger.

You look around you. You've suffered heavy losses during this fight, and the traitorous conspirators proved to be more resourceful than you thought. But you have won the battle, and that, at least is small consolation.

Crippled ships and floating shuttles drift around you, but friendly ships are already beginning to aid the survivors. Much of the damage will be repaired, but there are some losses which are irreplaceable.

What is your next course of action?

A. Find Flame-Mantle and ask him how this came to be and why Death-Gifter was still alive.
B. Speak with Ashen-Blade and his human allies.
C. Go ground side and speak to the Matriarch.

>>B. Speak with Ashen-Blade and his human allies.

You open a channel with Ashen-Blade, and ask him for the status of the human fleet.

"One of the cruisers suffered some pretty significant damage, but nothing a few days in our dry dock won't fix.

"I was on my way to human space, when I picked up a distress signal from a few of our scout ships near a remote human outpost. I answered, and found them in the middle of a fight between Weyland-Yutani invaders and the colonial marines."

A human face appears on the holo-screen. You recognize him - it's Mickey, an ally from the past who helped you mount a rescue of Ashen-Blade.

"We marines pay our debts," he tells you.

"That was good timing," you tell him.

"We need to head to Earth," Ashen-Blade tells you. "Something is happening there; Weyland-Yutani is gearing up for war, and if we wait for too long, we'll need to deal with more and more of their warships."

Do you:

A. Tell him you'll need a human ship, as the one you captured was destroyed.
B. Ask Mickey why the outpost came under attack by Weyland forces.
C. Ask Mickey what the marines' stakes are in the coming conflict.

You ask Mickey why the outpost came under attack by Weyland forces. He responds, "After the attack on our colony, one of our scientists noticed an oddity with one of the xenomorph corpses.

"There seemed to be some sort of device embedded into its skull. After taking it apart and studying it, she discovered its purpose - a neurological microprocessor which allows those monsters to respond to commands and be controlled. After cross-referencing these findings with several recent incidents of xenomorph assault, we built conclusive evidence that the Weyland-Yutani corporation is behind them.

"We provided the evidence to the government, and an inquiry was launched. But, our colonial science team came under several rounds of assassination attempts by Weyland-Yutani in an effort to silence us and bury the evidence. We thought we'd be safe out in such a remote outpost, but apparently, we were wrong."

Do you:

A. Tell him you'll need a human ship, as the one you captured was destroyed.

>>B.

You ask Mickey what the marines' stakes are in the coming conflict.

"It's not simple," he tells you. "Weyland-Yutani has gained unprecedented powers and they've proven they're willing to do anything to get more. Now, because of your technology, they've achieved technological superiority over others. Given a few more years of development, no one, not even the Colonial navy, can challenge them."

He pauses for a moment. "We can't even challenge them now; they're already too far ahead. And now, they're moving on Earth, in an attempt to use this technological edge to hold it ransom. We can't allow that to happen."

"Then our goals are aligned," you tell him. "But I need a ship. A human ship."

"We had the same thought," he tells you, and refers to the Weyland-Yutani battlecruiser. "Which is why we purchased this vessel from one of their competitors, and repainted it with Weyland livery. Your friend is right. If we want to succeed in this mission, we'll need to hurry to Earth."

You agree.

Do you:

A. Tell him you should head out immediately and set course for Earth.
B. Speak with Flame-Mantle and ask him about the recent attack.
C. Touch in with your Matriarch, and tell her of your intentions.

You open a comms channel ground-side and ask to speak to the Matriarch. A few moments later, her face appears on your holo-screen.

"What's the situation up there?" She asks you.

"Stabilized. Traitor forces are destroyed. We've... lost the station."

"And Jackal-of-Carrion, yes. The station will be rebuilt and your mentor will be honored. You still have your mission. See to it. I don't know what happened up there, and I don't know how it came to be, but I promise you, I will find out. Now go. There is little more you can do here."

She pauses.

"I'm officially releasing the battleship Silver-Tempest to your command, along with the four destroyers of the fleet. It's what Jackal would have done."

You thank her.

Do you:

A. Speak with Flame-Mantle and ask him about the recent attack.

>>A. Speak with Flame-Mantle and ask him about the recent attack.

You find Flame-Mantle in a medical facility ground-side, and you establish comms with him.

"What happened? How did Death-Gifter appear on one of our own ships?"

The veteran agent growls. "The figure we cornered in the palace was a double wearing a holo-mask. The real Death-Gifter disguised himself as a guard, part of the contingent who surrendered to us with Dark-Shroud. We put them on board a prison ship for Yautja prime, but they must have found a way to escape."

"How did they disable our ships and security?"

"Night-Star, during his tenure as fleet master, had access to a large number of sensitive systems. He had ample time to feed back and exploit vulnerabilities. He must have had some sort of protocol in place for just such an occasion. His compatriots must have picked up his trail."

"And where is Dark-Shroud?"

"We're trying to track him down. He must have escaped during the commotion." He pauses. "But, given that the goal of the enemy was to steal additional ships, it shows they're running short on such assets."

"It also means they're planning for something bigger," you point out.

"Yes. Keep your eyes open."

You wish him a speedy recovery and turn to your fleet.

Your destroyers still have their main guns disabled, but with the battle ended, they have the luxury of time to perform repairs and restorations.

They tell you they'll need two hours.

Do you:

A. Tell them to prepare for departure immediately.
B. Give them some time to make repairs and re-arm.
>>
>>26800264
B. its required. can they repair on the way? or load the items required and only spend half an hour?

>>
>>26800295
>>26800319

>>B. Give them some time to make repairs and re-arm.

You order your fleet to make the necessary repairs - but to do it quickly. They respond positively.

You clear a docking bay for the human ships, and offer them a berth to make repairs of their own.

In the mean time, you hold a caucus with your team aboard the Silver-Tempest.

Burning-Scythe pulls down a starmap and shows you a route through the intervening regions to the human worlds, which he believes will minimize contact and exposure.

Seeking-Eye follows up with a detailed plan of navigating the city from both underground and above ground, and provides several options for breaching the headquarters itself.

Quick-Shadow produces two high precision large calibre spear guns, for use in urban terrain, and Steel-Arrow points out his ship has been outfitted with several extra layers of armor.

You notice Sharp-Strike being more reticent than usual, and guess he must be affected by the loss of your mutual mentor.

Do you:

A. Console him in private.
B. Pledge this mission to the honor of your mentor.
C. Remind him to focus on the mission, and to mourn later.

You are silent for a moment, and look at your team with conviction. You tighten your fist, and give a pledge to the honor of your mentor. You turn to Sharp-Strike, and say, "We're going to succeed. Nothing more, and nothing less. We'll take the fight to the enemy, and beat them. I can think of no better way to honor the fallen."

You reach over and grip Sharp-Strike's shoulder. He straightens his pose, and tells you in a determined voice, "I'm ready. Let's do this."

Your team echoes the sentiment.

A few hours later, your destroyers report that they're fully operational. A new batch of warriors was transferred from ground side to give the Silver-Tempest a full complement.

You muster your team and meet aboard the human's battle cruiser, painted with Weyland-Yutani livery.

Mickey greets you as your ship touches down in the hangar.

"Welcome aboard the Peregrine Celeste. We're supposed to be part of a fuel delivery convoy coming to Earth to perform maintenance. She's heavily armed - by our standards - but more importantly, she should blend in just fine.

"I hear you have a course already plotted. What's the plan for your fleet? Should we jump together?

You say:

A. "We'll jump first. The disguise works better if we are alone. The rest of my fleet can follow at a distance."
B. "Let's jump together. We can't risk getting caught solo."

The course Burning-Scythe plotted seems to be a prudent one. The journey promises to be uneventful, thankfully.

What do you spend the majority of your time doing?

A. Going to over maps of the city and the solar system with your team.

>>C. Speaking with your human allies to better understand the political and military situation on Earth.

You spend a great deal of time with your human allies discussing Earth, and what to expect. A common topic of discussion seems to be the moon of Europa, where the vast majority of Weyland-Yutani's firepower around the solar system is concentrated.

There seems to be a host of conspiracy theories around what Weyland-Yutani actually has installed there.

Some seem to think it's a massive sensor dish, used for constant spying of colonial powers.

Other seem to think it's a large missile battery with enough warheads pointed at Earth to hold it at ransom.

Ashen-Blade suggests scouting out Europa first, using superior Yautja cloaking tech, before heading to Earth, while Mickey's inclination is to avoid it altogether.

They turn to you for your opinion.

You say:

A. Agree with Ashen-Blade. Scout out Europa and find out what Weyland-Yutani has stashed there.
B. Agree with Mickey. Approach Earth from the other side of Jupiter and avoid Europa all together.
>>
>>26800979
>A. Agree with Ashen-Blade. Scout out Europa and find out what Weyland-Yutani has stashed there.

Could have something that will turn the tide of the future battle.
>>
Mmmm. Does this mean we'll be able to use the Wind-Adder?
>>
>>26800979
A.

I suggested a while back that we have our reinforcements just blow this moon out of the sky when we're doing stuff on earth, but now I want to scout it out first. We might find some juicy intel while we're there.
>>
>>26800979

>A

Better to know what the stakes are.

Make a vewwy, vewwy qwiet approach though.
>>

You agree with Ashen-Blade, and suggest you scout out Europa and find out what Weyland-Yutani has stashed on the surface.

After some more discussion, Mickey is convinced, and agrees to adopt a plan to recon Europa.

A few days later, you exit the solar system at its edge. The system is rife with activity, and few challenges your presence.

Mickey turns to you. "How should we run this recon?" he asks.

You say:

A. "I'll take my ship and approach Europa under cloak."
B. "We wait for the rest of my fleet to arrive under cloak, and recon Europa in force.
C. "I'll take a small vessel, the Wind-Adder, and attempt to land on the surface."
>>
>>26801078
C
>>
>>26801078
C.
>>
>>26801078
Hmm... They may have cloak detection tech, especially on their main stockpile. So A is a questionable choice. The small vessel would almost certainly be detected as well. I vote for B, as it is the safest option. If not B, then we do C and make sure our reinforcements are too terribly far behind in case we need some help.

Most importantly, we can't let the fakely-painted Wey-yu ship near Europa until we're done.
>>
>C.

>>26801130

also this. Have some backup hidden on the horizon of a nearby moon.
>>
>>26801112
>>26801096
>>C.

"I'll take a small vessel, the Wind-Adder, and attempt to land on the surface," you suggest.

Mickey nods, and agrees. He reminds you to be careful.

You board the Wind-Adder, and power it up. It has been a while since you piloted this craft, but the controls instantly bring back a sense of familiarity. You carefully un-dock it from your ship and engage the stealth systems.

You slip out carefully and begin to head inside the solar system.

Your sensors indicate a large number of ships congregated around Europa, most of them probably from Weyland-Yutani. Finding a direct approach past them would be difficult, but the longer you remain close by, the higher your chances are of being detected.

Do you:

A. Approach from the dark side of Jupiter and take some time to observe orbital activity around Europa.
B. Approach Europa directly and use speed to slip past the orbiting ships, using their signatures to mask yours.
>>
>>26801204

I want to say A, but I feel like if we wait around until we find a gap in the orbit of ships to enter the planet safely, there will be a signature pointing at us. If we mask our signature among the others, then there's more interference to hide us. I choose B.

You decide to approach Europa directly and use speed to slip past the orbiting ships, using their signatures to mask yours.

You carefully increase the throttle and head for orbit. You find two possible entry points.

You can either attempt to slip between a series of fast-moving civilian passenger craft on a landing course to the planet, and attempt to reach the planet by hiding among them, or you can attempt to head towards two massive cargo haulers slowly heading to the surface and attempt to join them in their slow descent.

Which approach do you choose?

A. Approach the planet by hiding among a formation of civilian passenger ships. (DC: Medium)
B. Approach the planet by hiding among two large cargo haulers. (DC: Medium)

You quickly join the two large cargo haulers as they make their descent. Their massive engines serves to blanket you from sensors. The descent is slow and tense, but fortunately, your small, cloaked vessel is not detected.

You find yourself slowly approaching a military installation ground side. A large number of antenna arrays litter the premise, indicating a powerful sensor installation located within.
