A thousand worlds and dimensions have fallen to your kind. Entire civilisations have been consumed by your kin, the minds and bodies of their inhabitants completely shattered and twisted to the whim of your families. Other worlds have taken up worshipping you as gods, protectors or saviours. Your great vexic hives flit across realities, ignoring and surpassing mathematical, scientific and magical laws imagined by those who try to see some sense in the universe.

The hive has expelled you, and you travel at over 10,000 TPS, achieving speeds and directions thought impossible by most sentient beings. You feel several magical and dimensional fields and blocks shatter as you enter this reality.

You lie in the crater created by your arrival. As you prepare yourself to explore this new world, you wonder… what form do you take?

>Body
You are a physical being, a thing of pulsating flesh and tendrils. While you are small now, as you grow in size, your existence will require the use of mathematical dimensions invisible and incomprehensible to many beings; some may be horrified or driven insane by your majesty. You can affect the world around you, but at the moment you are small and weak; you require sustenance in the form of flesh, bone and blood in order to grow and survive. You have psionic abilities that are minor at the moment, but will grow in power as you grow in size.

>Mind
You are a being of psionic energy, a mass of glowing orbs and thoughts. You can turn visible and invisible at will due to this state of existence, and you can use your mental abilities to control and influence others. However, you cannot affect the physical world anymore than a light breeze can; you must influence or possess other beings into doing more laborious tasks for you. You feed off of the psionic energy generated when a being experiences a strong emotional state, be it terror, anger or joy. As you grow, so will your size and influence over the minds of others.

Ah, yes, of course. You are a being of body.

You emerge from your crater, tentacles and tendrils groping and pulling at the grass and earth so that you may lift yourself into the cool air. You find yourself on a large, flat plain. There are several small outcrops of trees scattered about, and a river not too far away. In the distance are mountains. A short while away there is a small settlement of stone and wood huts.

Where do you wish to go?

You make your way towards the river, propelling yourself across the ground with a series of spazms and twitches, your tentacles pushing and groping at tufts of grass; you are not yet strong enough to stand upright on your tentacles and walk upon them.

You reach the edge of the river and experimentally dip a tentacle into the water. The water is cool and flows lazily, and the sensation is quite pleasant on your flesh. You gently ease yourself into the river, doing your best to hold onto reeds and stones to stop yourself from being carried away on the gentle current.

You submerge yourself almost entirely in the clear water. The river bed is composed of fine silt and gravel, and the occasional large stone topped with a gently undulating green water plant. The first sign of animal life you see are several water snails on the river bed beneath you, but after several minutes of waiting, a small, silvery fish swims near you and appears slightly intrigued by your quivering form.

You wait for the fish to get extremely close to you before you lash out. While the speed of your movement is slightly impeded by the water, you manage to wrap a tendril around the fish even as it begins to swim away. You tug it back towards you and, after wrapping several other tendrils about its body, begin to throttle the squirming creature as you pull it into your body. The fish vanishes amidst your limbs with one last, desperate wiggle, and then you consume it.

You feel hard little scales, soft flesh, cool blood and thin bones being passed through your body. You process them and add them to your mass, and can't help but shiver slightly in delight as you finish your first ever meal.

You are once more alone, other than the water snails.

You reach out with a tentacle and grab onto one of the water snails on the river bed beneath you. You attempt to consume it, but the shell is rather hard to get through. After the soft flesh and hard little fragments of shell have been processed by your body, you reach out for another snail; however, with this one you insert a tentacle into the shell and forcefully scoop out the snail within. You discard the shell and consume the snail; without the shell, the meal is much easier to process and much more enjoyable.

You also snatch at a clump of aquatic plants anchored to a nearby stone. The plants are rubbery and hard to hold on to, and secured firmly to the rock, but you eventually manage to tug some of the weeds from the stone and consume them. They're edible, but hardly feel nourishing compared to the fish and snails.

You eat a few more bits of plant life and consume several more snails (all scooped from their shells). As luck would have it, another of the small fish swims by; you snatch it from the water as it grows near and consume it before it has time to slip from your grasp.

Your meal of two fish, several snails and a few bits of leaf was satisfying but not extremely nourishing; you have not grown greatly and you hunger for more. You release your hold on the rocks and reeds keeping you in place and allow yourself to be carried downstream for several minutes, in case there is a greater bounty of food further down the river. You come to a halt when you grip onto another clump tangled reeds. This part of the river is slightly shadier due to a greater abundance of aquatic plants and weeds sprouting from rocks and the riverbed. There are several more of the water snails on the river bed and plants around you, and, floating on the surface of the water not too far away, amidst the safety of a tangle of reeds, a great clump of small, spherical, fleshy objects; some sort of waterborne egg.

It will be a good personality trait to have once we begin our unspeakable cult.

You slither a tentacle through the cup of reeds surrounding the eggs. The eggs are small and hard to hold on to, but appear to be semi-joined together in great lumps. You carefully pull several of these egg masses towards you and observe them. Each one is somewhat transparent and has a small, black dot in the centre. A few of the dots are larger in some eggs than in others, and some appear to be twitching slightly. You consume the eggs, fleshy membranes popping as your tendrils press against them, the tiny half-formed creatures within shivering and jerking as you take them into your body mass.

You leave several of the eggs where you originally found them; eventually they will hatch and grow into whatever creature laid the eggs and create more eggs; more food for you.

>>26772048
You focus on one of the eggs you left and attempt to channel your psionic abilities at it, perhaps to create some foul spawn of your own. However, sculpting the flesh of other living beings attempts to be beyond your abilities right now.

>>26772084
You attempt to fill yourself up on water. You allow water to flow into your body and feel yourself swelling up. However, you cannot process the water and can only hold so much in your body, so you decide to expel it. As you do, your body is pushed in the opposite direction; while your grip on the reeds that keep you hear isn't broken, you appear to have discovered a rather efficient form of propulsion.

>>26772297
You decide that now is the time for exploration. You travel further downstream for several minutes, lazily bouncing off of reeds and rocks as you experiment with your method of water propulsion. Your discovery is rewarded when you come across a fish; startled, it attempts to swim away, but using water propulsion, you manage to pursue it and get just close enough that you are able to snatch it from the water with a tendril and consume it.

After a few minutes, you turn around and decide to head back upstream. It takes slightly more effort to go against the current, but your journey is helped when you discover that you can control your direction and movement slightly more effectively, depending on the positioning of your tendrils. You eventually find yourself back at the point where you first entered the river.

You pull yourself from the water. It's a little difficult at first, as your tendrils are wet and slippery and the slow current occasionally tugs at your body, but you eventually get a grip on some tufts of grass and reeds and emerge from the river.

You are once again on the sparsely forested plain. You cannot see any living things in the immediate area, but you can hear the buzz of insects coming from the grass and trees all around. You can still see the village in the distance and, while you cannot make out whoever may or may not be occupying it, it is likely inhabited.

It's hard to tell. There's not really anything nearby that you can compare yourself too. From where you are quite a lot of things still look very large compared to you. It's probably a safe bet that you're still small compared to the other inhabitants of this world.

>>26772635
You attempt to tense your tentacles and raise yourself upon them. You can't walk yet, but you manage to master a sort-of practiced flop that allows you to move about at a respectable speed.

>>26772660
The tentacles at the bottom of the trees appear to be buried in the ground. Maybe there's something nutritious they're eating under there. Who knows?

>>26772679
You hope that whatever beings inhabit the cluster of huts in the distance are more filling. You start to move in that direction.

The village is far away and your speed is hardly astounding, so it does not seem like this trip will be a short one. As you get closer and closer to the village, the houses are becoming noticeably larger; your suspicions that you're quite small compared to the other inhabitants of this world seem to be confirmed.

Dig some of our tentacles into the ground, perhaps some algal spores left on our body could help us photosynthesize. It is free energy and our family members likely gathered energy from stars.

The humans would be a lot more welcoming of us if we could disguise ourselves as some sort of tree. Tendrils in the earth, stretched upper body, tendrils in the sky bearing algae colonies. We'd have to do a lot of work to get our shape right, but presenting our otherworldly nature as being that of a nature spirit could be effective. Something to remember for later, I suppose. For now, though, let's raid some livestock. Maybe some grain, too, if we can equate plant seeds to the eggs we ate. Stay away from the humans, though. They're big, and still scary. Let's just grab some chickens (or whatever microlivestock they raise, rabbits or guinea pigs would be fine too) and go hide somewhere.

By the time you reach the outskirts of the village, it seems to be late afternoon. The sun is still shining brightly but it is no longer at its highest point in the sky.

After some quick observation, the village appears to be surrounded by several patches of farmland and a few stables and farm buildings. Closest to you is a stable, in which you can hear something mooing, and next to it is a stone building that must be the farmhouse. There are several paddocks around both buildings. Most are empty, but one has several chickens and a small chicken coop in it, while another has two pigs lounging around in great swathes of mud.

You attempt to root yourself in the earth. Your tendrils scrabble rather feebly at the earth and manage to make some small indentations. You let the sun shine on you for a bit. The light is pleasantly warm, but doesn't appear to be very sustaining. Perhaps you'll be able to turn into a tree or siphon celestial energy from the stars when you've matured.
>>
>>26773094
We're still pretty small, though. It's not clear exactly how small, but their huts look huge to us. We're probably about the size of a cat. And it's not like we have any combat adaptations yet, all we can do is grab things and envelop them. We might be able to smother a human, but unless we find one sleeping we're not strong enough to pull ourselves up to their face. And eating one would take forever. We can be a horrible monster later. For now we need to play it safe.

Or, actually, since we know that things lay eggs, let's go for the hen house and look for eggs before we eat a chicken. Those are less likely to be missed. And, as we know from the last time we ate them, are delicious.

You decide to make your way over to the chickens. You flop across the ground and squirm through one of the gaps in the fence around the chicken-pen.

Most of the chickens are your size or slightly smaller than you. You could probably consume one without too much difficulty, and, compared to everything else you've consumed so far, it would probably be quite a nice meal in comparison. However, the chickens don't seem very keen on being near you; none have kicked up a fuss, but most move away if you get too close.

You also check in the chicken coop. There are a few more hens in here, sitting on shelves amongst piles of straw and grass. You can see that there are several eggs lying amongst the straw, but they're larger than the ones you ate in the river, and they look different too.

You wrap a tendril around an egg and pull it towards you. It feels different to the ones you ate in the river; much more solid. Your tentacles engulf the egg and crush it, then take it into your mass. The little shell fragments aren't much too your liking, but they're easy to get through in order to consume the much more enjoyable runny bits on the inside of the eggs.

You eat several eggs, occasionally tossing away a fragment of shell, each runny yolk processed causing you to shiver a little in enjoyment. However, you make sure to check for snakes, each time you snatch up an egg, shifting aside hay and straw in case any lie in wait. There don't appear to be any snakes hiding amongst the straw, so you go on eating without disturbance.

You eventually consume every egg you can find. You feel nourished and slightly stronger. While a single egg isn't too filling, all these eggs together added up to a much more sustaining meal than a few small fish and snails. A few hens waddled from the coop while you were eating; two more remain in here, sitting on shelves and peering down at you with red eyes.

You clamber up the shelves of the coop. The hens shift uncomfortably as you get near them, but do not make a fuss as you pass by and vanish into the shadows above them. You cling awkwardly to the wooden supports and some of the higher shelves within the chicken coop, and wait for the light to fade.

By the time it is dark outside, several other chickens have joined the two hens in the coop, and the whole thing is rather crowded. You pick out one of the chickens, not too close to the others, and decide to make your move. You drop and flop down to it, trying to make as little noise as possible and, when you're close, you lash out. Your tendril wraps around a scrawny, feathery neck, and grows tighter and tighter. The chicken wakes up and attempts to let out a squawk, but only manages a very pathetic, squeaky rasp as you cut off its air. It begins to flap around as you draw your body onto it, tendrils and tentacles gripping onto it to prevent movement. A few of the closer chickens wake up and move away, but none start to squawk in fear.

The chicken’s movements grow weaker, and you eventually feel brittle bones in its neck snap and shatter. Your tentacles wrap around the fat body of the hen and start to pull it into you. The chicken is, by far, the most interesting meal you've eaten. Soft tickly feathers aren't to your liking; you expel them from your body and tear them from the body of the chicken. Fatty skin and soft flesh enter your body and warm blood squirts out over your form. You take it all in, feeling your body process it. The bones are difficult, but eventually they snap and crumble as they enter your body. You consume the entire chicken, and flex your tentacles. You feel well fed, and your hunger is practically sated.

Look. They're going to assume coyotes or something. /Nobody/ is going to think "COSMIC TENTACLE HORRORS!" after finding their chicken coops raided. Just kill the chickens and bugger off somewhere away from the coops.

Since Murky is gone for a bit, let's think of our options;

>the coop

A great meal so far, but the farmer is likely to notice them missing. We also have no idea if this planet is fantasy, modern, historical fiction, ect. If the farmer comes at us with a shot-gun and the town finds out about us before we are strong enough, we're Fucked.

>river

Many meals, few predators. Things like gators, garfish, eagles, ect. We can likely hide from them and get back to our jet propulsion. The ocean is far away, but we would not be ready for it for some time.

>tree

Can can become a tree-like creature. This is boring, but it can give us time to get used to the planet. Gain energy from the sun, snatch up critters, hell - we can become a mini-ecosystem ourselves! We might even be able to taint/corrupt the woodland creatures to do our bidding.

Fucking awesome thread, OP. Really, it's a blast, I normally am bored to death with quest threads. One complaint - where's the san loss? Surely some of those chickens would have fled in fear?
>>
>>26774331
This.
With the death machine of chickens backing us, we will be made god of this puny world
>>
We could psionic zap the water to make hydrogen and use that to fill up a bladder and become a flying tentacle thing. Combine that with the photosynthetic plan and we could travel the skies eating birds and descending upon centers of populations as a harbinger of chaos.
>>
>>26774391
Missing chickens are not a problem. He'll chalk it up to wolves.
>>
This is what we need to do.

Devour the entire town then enter the sea.

I respectfully disagree. Should we opt for a more peaceful nature of tentacle monster, we could convince the villagers that we're some sort of holy tree and receive sacrifice from them in exchange for our timeless wisdom, for instance.

I want this soo bad, but we gotta think short-term

or

>we stay inside the coop

Either way, we need to go somewhere else. If we have no luck, we move back to the coop, we should check out the forest.

>>
>>26774766
Exactly. Hell, it doesn't have to be a passive, stationary thing. If we can consume some termites and absorb the bacteria in their body that produce cellulase we could eat trees! We spread via our roots, eating our way up through the trunks of other trees as we replace their lost mass with our own. We become the forest, our creepers and tendrils reaching out through the ground to spread our will. And if we do it right the humans will welcome our presence, this intelligent embodiment of what they think to be the natural order. We need to dream big, here. Our parents are world eaters, we need to live up to their example if we're going to impress the folks back home.

His and my vote is as good as yours.

Regardless, impersonating a tree is not on our agenda for now. We can't even do fotosynthesis properly. We need meat.

You become aware of the fact that, at your current size, encountering the inhabitants of the village (who are likely several times your size) is not the safest idea. The cool waters of the river are, perhaps, the best dwelling choice and hunting grounds at the moment.

Before you leave, you look around the coop once more. One more quick-feed before you leave couldn't hurt. Again, a tentacle lashes out. A strangled squawk. Flapping soon subsided by constricting, groping tendrils. A shower of feathers. A few crunches and slurps.

You leave the coop even as you feel your body processing the second chicken. The village and plains are dark at night, but there are few clouds in the sky and the moon shrines brightly. You find your way back to the river without difficulty, but during the journey, you notice that you move much more easily. While you have not grown significantly, you believe that your physical strength has increased noticeably, and your 'practiced flop' has become more refined; still not a true walk, but a much more controlled mixture of rolling and dragging.

You eventually slide back into the slow waters of the river. You allow yourself to be submerged without holding onto anything, as you have faith in your water propulsion method should the tide carry you away slightly.

I wonder if we can propel ourselves underwater, as well as above.

I vote for gorging ourselves on fish. And if we cannot catch them, we use one of our tentacles as a worm-like lure.

You decide that it is once more time for underwater exploration. With a flick of your tentacles and an expulsion of water, you set off downstream.

You advance further down the river than you did previously. You have a little more difficulty navigating between the thicker clumps of reeds now that you’re slightly larger, but the more you practice this method of water travel, the easier it gets.

After roughly an hour of travel (during which you managed to grab and consume several of the small, silver fish), you find the river widening around you. The bottom of the river slopes away, and eventually, the river bloats into a large pond (or small lake). You find yourself floating freely in water of this depth. The bottom of the pond is shrouded in shadow, with the occasional clump of reeds rising from the depths. While the water is rather thick with water weeds and algae, you can make out several of the small, silvery fish flickering about through the plants, and shadows that may be larger fish closer to the bottom of the water.

>>

You propel yourself through the water. Your tentacles lash out at fish that come near you, pulling them into your mass of tentacles. You crush and throttle them, tearing them apart and consuming them.

As you get deeper, you find new fish. These aren't the small, silvery fish; these are larger ones, with bulging eyes and mouths. They move no faster than the silver ones, and you catch them easily. Your tendrils grope and crush, exploring every inch of these new living meals before you consume them.

You also find more of the water snails, scattered about the pond floor or on the reeds throughout the water. Again, you scoop out their satisfying bodies from the shells, consuming as many as you can find to add to your mass.

You feel as if you have been moving through the waters of the pond for hours, constantly searching out and consuming new prey. You flex tentacles that seem to constantly be growing longer, allowing you to reach out further and snare more and more.

After consuming several more fish, you decide to test your psionic abilities.

You focus your mental efforts and reach out into the water around you. Eventually, you feel your mind touching another; you gently probe around this psychic presence, before delving into it and taking control. You identify this simple mind as that of one of the larger fish you found in this pond. You experimentally tug at the fishes mind, commanding it to come towards you. As you do so, you spot the very fish you're possessing moving directly towards you. As the fish grows nearer, you tug harder at the fishes mind in excitement, attempting to exert more psionic control.

However, this seems to be too much for the fish. It suddenly jerks and falls still, blood trailing from its mouth, eyes and gills. It seems that you'll have to be very careful with your psionic abilities until you have a greater degree of control over them. You consume the fish regardless.
>>
>>26777519
keep using mind powers to gather all the fish close to us to eat
>>
>>26777536

Second. Practice makes perfect.
>>
>>26777568
You decide to practice your psionic abilities. Again, you reach out into the water, letting your mind brush against and caress those in the water around you. You feel the silvery fish, the larger fish... even the extremely simple presences of the water snails and other small creatures. You let your mind spread, experimenting with how many minds you can connect with and influence at a time without stretching your own conscience too far... Eventually you drift into a trance, lost in the process of practicing your psionic abilities.
