Your name is Hairy McTerrorcastle, student at the Fifth Circle. Through a series of unlikely shenanigans and pure dumb luck, you've managed to make yourself stand out to the faculty as a rising star amongst the students. Shining as a beacon of talent the very moment you began classes, you've managed to learn the true name of an Imp rather quickly, travel to the Entropic Plane and just recently made what you believe is a close friend out of one it's strange denizens, whom you have now named Oblitus Luna, the Forgotten Moon.

Being a rising star in the Magic world has it's downsides - the Archmagister explained that the Empire who seeks to suppress Magic may try and do something to get rid of you.

Fortunately, the Fifth Circle Academy is here to protect you every step of the way - whether it's through a secret, shadowy group of other prodigies identified by the Academy, or just plain protection given by some of the most powerful Mages alive, they're quite confident as long as you remain within Academy Grounds, you're safe. From the Empire at least.

Celebrating the successful experiment, you went on your long awaited date with fellow student and member of the Fifth Circle, Ariane. The cute mute showed you all about alchemy and potions, and the two of you accidentally(?) drank something you probably shouldn't have. Fueled by teenage hormones and magical viagra, the two of you returned to her dorm for some good old fashioned teenage mischief. No penetration occurred, perverts.

>cont.
>>
>>26758986
>No penetration
Whoa, seriously? Uh, okay.
>>
>>26758986

You suppose you're officially dating now. The two of you didn't really discuss it - once the potion wore off, it was one part awkward, one part unsure, and one part confused but not upset.

In any case, you returned to your dorm for the day - Oblitus was still there. Come to think of it, you don't think there's an actual limit on the spell... the Librarian, who is also apparently an Entropic Entity, seems to be on a permanent holiday here in the Material Plane. Guess Obby's got the same package. He's just kind of standing in the corner of your dorm when you get back.

After a goodnight's rest, it's Monday, and you have a Lecture today! You have three hours to prepare. Oblitus has been watching you sleep, needing no sleep of his own. Jaqul is missing from his bed - he's left a note.

>Breakfast?

You decide to read the note first. 'Gone out.' Is all it says. Gee, thanks Jaqul. Very informative. At least Magister Vann isn't sleeping in his bed this time to give you the old-fashioned brotherly warning.

You head down to take a shower. Lutharius is already there, scrubbing some strange black gunk off his hands. "Don't ask." He mutters, scrubbing at it a little more fiercely. Huh. You wonder what he got up to? You're a little disturbed to find Oblitus watching you curiously as you clean yourself, but you guess you'd be curious too if you had no need to do any of these little morning rituals.

"... Is that some sort of Summon?" Lutharius says, a little wary. You nod at him - you can tell him the full details later if you choose. "His name is Oblitus, he's my friend. Er, ignore him."

Feeling fresh as a daisy, you come out to the Kitchens. Nobody's made any breakfast yet - at least, if they did, they didn't make any for anyone else. You start your morning tradition of the communal breakfast; just some eggs, sausage and bacon.

Despite coming in after him, Lutharius emerges ten minutes after you, hands now free of the black goo... whatever it was.

Drazeen comes down for breakfast shortly after, and you introduce him to Oblitus as well. Oblitus has taken to hiding behind you, almost like a shy child. The three of you discuss nothing in particular over breakfast, as Oblitus kind of hovers over your shoulder, watching you eat. You offer him some of the food, but he declines.

You have about an hour and a half left on the clock before you have to go to the Summoning Chambers.

You decide to explore the grounds. You aren't sure where you're heading, only where your feet decide to take you. You know the other Schools of Magic have a separate section each - maybe you could visit one of them?

You don't think Divination would be that interesting. Force classes are usually held in the Courtyard, and the Alchemical Labs smell like all hell.

Your feet however, take you to the Hall of Illusions. Jaqul studies Illusions, and is apparently pretty good at it but you realise you don't actually know much about it. You barely even know the Magister's name.

You push on the large wooden doors, and you are immediately assaulted with the smell of a herbal smoke. It tingles your nose, as you wave it's hazy cloud away. The Hall is full of cushions and couches, and various students are all lying around. Are those... are those pipes?

"Oh... Hello..." A faint voice says. "Welcome to the Hall of Illusions. Have you come to broaden your horizons?" The Magister of Illusions, clad in wafty purple robes seems to glide across the ground towards you, smiling serenely but vacantly. She holds out a pale hand for you to take.

You aren't sure what you just walked into. Is this what Jaqul gets up to all the time...?

You give her a big, goofy smile. "Whaaaaaaaaaat?" She just smiles back, serene and vacant.

You're pretty tempted to take her up on the offer... but you have summoning in a little over an hour. "Sorry, can I take a raincheck on that?"

She nods serenely. "Illumination waits for all those who wish to take it, be it now, tomorrow, or lifetimes away." You pretend to understand that.

"What are Illusions like?" Always eager to learn things that could make you more powerful, aren't you?

She turns with a slow flourish. "Illusions are Imagination unbound, transcended and communicated. There are those who use the Art to hide, others to lie, but it is an Art first and foremast. The Greatest Masters of the Phantasmic Arts were not Deceivers or Skulkers in the night - no, they were Performers." She wafts into the middle of the room, and waves her hands. Trails of bright, multicoloured lights follow her movements, creating a halo of neon colours. "I seek to impart not only the knowledge of the Art but it's spirit. The School of Illusions is one that can be used to bring Imagination to Life. Through the Art, it is possible to tell the greatest stories and the saddest tales, limited only by Imagination and Skill."

You watch her make Phantasms and Illusions. She shows you a mock battle between Elemental Mages. Earth shields rise up to be blasted be gouts of flame, lightning called down from the skies diverted by a dome of water. It's very impressive. At some point the phantasms change and morph, becoming a Knight charging a Dragon. As the lance strikes, it changes again, until a beautiful couple waltz through the air.

You watch them for half an hour, before you bid her goodbye. You don't feel like you've learned anything concrete about illusions, except that you can really put on a nice show if you know what you're doing.

You head over to the Summoning Chambers with your leftover time.

You make it to the Main Chamber ten minutes early, the other students already milling about.

You decide to sit by the girl who doesn't seem to like you very much. "Hi, I'm Hairy McTerrorcastle." Your introduction is promptly ignored. She doesn't even glance at Oblitus - he's been getting a few stares from the other students, and the fact he tries to hide behind you doesn't help matters that much.

He shrinks in on himself as Magister Pythianne sweeps into the room, looking upbeat and cheerful. "Hello everyone! It's so good to see so many of you still here!"

You aren't sure what she's talking about - a little over half have left the class you think.

"Today's class will not be dealing with the denizens of the Infernal Plane. The Archmagister has insisted that I at least show you the Elemental Plane's denizens!" She beams up at all of you as she moves over to the center. There is no Magic Circle this time. She likely feels she does not need one.

"Firstly, the one thing you need to know about Summoning Elementals is that it's easier when there's more of the Element in question - summoning an Earth Elemental in the air is a lot more difficult then summoning one in a cave. The good news is though, they're very easy to bind! Even novice summoners can do it. The actual difficulty is Summoning them, unlike Infernal Denizens." She paces around the center, looking at each of you in turn.

"This is mostly because Infernal Denizens WANT to be Summoned, but have motives of their own. Elemental Denizens, whilst sentient, are closer to animals then a human."

She begins casting a small spell, and the ground rumbles slightly, as a small, human-sized figure made of stone and earth rises up. It's lumbering form is thick and bulky, but it has a pair of gemstone eyes.

It makes a rumbling noise. "See? Very simple! Now, some of you might find you are attuned to a specific element. That's perfectly natural! Everyone's magic is different and attuned to different things. You may find summoning some Elementals easier then others though."

>cont.

"Now, if you don't know your attunement, that's fine! You can usually find Channeling Stones in the Enchantment Tower, or Divination Chambers. This spell here though, is a very simple Summon Elemental I - I'll show you the main five."

She teaches the class the basics of the Spell, and it's minor variations required to summon different elements.

You head down to the center with the other girl, and both of you begin casting the spell. As you continue the incantations, you realise you are both casting the exact same variation - you are both summoning a Lightning Elemental.

It might not be the best choice - there is in fact, no preexisting source of Lightning or Electricity in general to use to bolster your Summoning ability.

Electricity crackles through the air as both of you complete your spells in tandem. With a crack of thunder, each of you stands before a tall, lithe figure, seemingly made of sparking lightning. It arcs from their skin on occasion, reaching out to the ground and potentially anything metal. You probably don't want to shake it's hand. Oblitus cowers behind you, as usual.

"Very impressive! Do we have any more volunteers?" Pythianne says, clapping her hands. The other girl gives you a cold stare. You think she sees you as a rival.

The Lightning Elemental looks at you. It crackles. You think that's the equivalent of a dog barking or something. You can see... eyes? Little voids of space the Lightning never fills.

"... Hi..." The Elemental just crackles. That might have been a response.

"Hmm... can you do any tricks?" It crackles. You... aren't sure what to make of that. "Uh... Do a flip?" It arcs around in a blurring circle of light and energy. It's rather impressive to look at.

You're tempted to summon another one, just to prove your dominance over the other girl. Hmm...

You aren't sure about the difficulties of Summoning more then one entity. Oblitus seems to be a bit of a special case in these cases. You might have to ask Pythianne about it.

And not just concerning multiple elementals. What happens if we do multiple infernals? How about mixing and matching, like having Bowie and an elemental summoned at the same time. This is probably some pretty key information for a Summoner.
>>

This is a very important thing.

Also, mixing and matching elementals. She said that air and earth make things harder. So I bet fire and water make things harder. But what even is lightning?

You leave the Elemental with Oblitus to bond. As best as the primal incarnation of Lightning can bond with the incarnation of... forgotten... something. You aren't sure. But hey, maybe they'll be friends? Or maybe Oblitus will just cower.

"What are the limitations regarding summoning more then one denizen?" Pythianne beams at you - students eager to learn always make her day.

"Well! It gets harder to control them really - it's trivial to control a single Elemental, but when you start getting larger amounts of them, more effort is required, corresponding both to the power and amount. The same goes for Infernals and other entities, but probably more so - whilst Infernals love to be summoned, they do not enjoy the ah, binding as much, you know?"

>The DC to Bind receives a 50% increase for each entity already summoned - Oblitus Luna does not count for this. When summoning multiple elementals, Binding DC begins at half the Summon DC. The Summon DC does not increase.

"Would it be okay for me to Summon another one?" Pythianne blinks, before nodding.

"If you think you're up to it, sure!" The other students are summoning various Elementals of their own. There's at least one of every element present.

The two DC's are different, and haven't applied to the same spell so far. Elementals are the first Summoning Spell you've encountered that would require two rolls. I should've asked for 2d100 I realised, but the Binding DC is literally 7 for an extra Elemental, so I'm going to handwave that.

Summoning an Infernal is easy because Infernals WANT to be Summoned - there's no DC to Summon but you still have to bind them because it's still an Infernal.

Elementals don't need to be bound usually because they're the mental equivalent of a dog. They are, however, more difficult to bring into the world as they do not actively enjoy being brought here (unlike Infernals who relish the chance for mischief on the material plane) (especially if there is a lack of their element nearby).
>>

You watch her go, hand still outstretched. "... What'd you think was her problem, Obby?" The clothed man-thing just shrugs lightly. Yeah, he probably wouldn't know.

You sit back down to let the class finish, having your Elementals perform tricks idly, seeing if you can get them to dance. It's not very easy, considering the keep arcing around and they tend to move instantaneously. But it's very pretty to look at!

You finish by having them bow, and dismissing them. They vanish in a flash of light.

Once everyone has dismissed their Summons, Pythianne claps her hands together and positively beams at all of you. "Very well done everyone!" She strides to the center again, looking at all of you.

"I can tell we've got a very good set of students this year! I hope to see all your eager faces again next week! Until then, goodbye!"

You tell her about what happened with the Training Dummies, and how they came to life.

"Hmm... I don't really know too much about the Entropic Plane... Jasper told me a little about it earlier." She frowns at this. "You know what the problem with Divination is?" He doesn't wait for your answer, whatever it may be.

"Knowing the future is not the same as being able to change it." He holds up his apple now. "Take you for instance. I knew what would happen if you went into the Experiment." He glances at Oblitus at this, who flinches. "I told Jasper to do something, I told Pythianne to do something, I told YOU to do something. And yet here we are." He takes another bite of the apple. You're not sure where he's going with this.

"I'll be honest. I hate you. You're frustrating. You're just like Jasper, you know that?" He glares at you half-heartedly. "The future isn't set in stone, thank the gods. If it was, I wouldn't bother getting up in the morning. People can make choices. The problem with people like you and Jasper, is you always make the strangest choices. All the time! I can tell you, with 100% certainty what Pythianne will eat for breakfast tomorrow, but I can't even guarantee that Jasper is wearing clothes right now."

He sighs. "I don't know what is about you two that makes you so... so WEIRD, but for the love of all everything ever... Please. Please do not make my job harder then it has to be. It's not your fault, but you were targeted by the Empire from day one. So, can I..." He pauses, mumbling to himself, before glancing at the sky. "Hold that thought."

As if on cue, you hear an incredible BOOM from the direction of the Alchemy Labs. "Right. Please don't make a target of yourself?" He gives you a tired look. "Juggling everything is hard enough."

It's on fire. You can see a small bubble of Magic, holding a large section of rubble from collapsing onto a group of students - the Archmagister is in the center of it, hands held up.

Vann looks very calm despite all of this, taking another bite of his apple. "You can run over to help if you want, although I don't know what good you'll do. Ranafiel will be over in five... four..." On cue, the orange-robed Magister bursts into the scene, and with frantic but directed gestures, bits of stone and brick are flung off the destroyed Alchemy Labs. "Five minutes until Magister Gareth arrives." Vann takes another bite of his apple, looking completely and utterly calm with what's going on.

"Yeah. Infernal Pacts aren't actually against the Law or Rules." Wait. Wha... okay, you're not even that surprised he knows. You take a polite sip from the flask. It burns.

"I don't suppose there's someone I could learn under...?" Vann snorts, and points to the rubble.
"Want to know why Magister Ahavans isn't allowed to actually perform Alchemy? He's attuned to Destruction as well. Powerfully." He takes another swig again.

It occurs to you that Ariane was probably in the rubble. And possibly Lutharius. "This has been very enlightening, but I need to check on my friends." You rush over to the rubble.

You find her. One of her leg's has been crushed by a piece of wall, and she's got bits of glass and other pointy things in her, but she's alive. You try to lift the wall up, calling on your Force Magic to help you but it's not enough. Ranafiel waves his hand almost casually, and it flips off of her leg.

Ariane doesn't appear to be conscious. Ranafiel returns to moving away the wreckage and rubble.

"Ahavans! I SWEAR TO THE GODS I'M GOING TO TEAR OUT YOUR SPLEEN FOR THIS!" Magister Gareth stands before the wreckage, looking furious and haggard. Jasper shrugs off the rubble he was holding up, dusting his hands. You can see Lutharius amongst the students he protected. "Later, Gareth. The healing?"

"Is everyone free?" Ranafiel moves a last bit of rubble, before nodding.

Magister Gareth holds out his hands. Magic bursts into life. It's overwhelming in it's magnitude, and power, uncontrolled and wild, roiling around you in waves like a maelstrom wind.

You can feel yourself getting better already - you weren't injured, but you feel energetic, restored. You look down. Ariane's cuts and grazes are knitting back together, her crushed leg restoring swiftly to pristine flesh. There isn't even a scar.

As soon as the maelstrom of Healing magic began, it ends, and Gareth slumps down on one knee, panting. Jasper brushes himself off, looking faintly pleased.

"Well. Ranafiel, please pick up Dio. He knows better then to practice Alchemy. Especially when there are students about! Heavens, someone could have died!"

Ariane's safe, and healed. She remains unconscious though.

You pick her up bridal style, and begin to head over the infirmary. The other magisters stay behind to assist with clean up; Vann appears to have disappeared somewhere. Probably to sleep.

The trip is uneventful - you garner some stares, but most people have been either rushing over the explosion, or sticking to what they were doing.

At the infirmary, you lay her down on one of the beds, and tuck her in gently. You're pretty sure she'll be fine, but it doesn't hurt anyway. Besides, she looks kind of cute like this.

Do we have an elemental attunement as well as being attuned to destruction?
>>
>>26763896
Ahh. That makes sense. Thanks for clearing it up.

If you want to make elemental spells clearer, you should put their element by them. So something like Light (Element - Fire). Or you could work brackets into it somehow. Or you could just keep it as it is, but it would help cut down on confusion and it would make sense to know the elemental alignment of elemental spells if we know how to cast them.

"The uh, Alchemy Lab exploded. Nobody got hurt... permanently, at least. Magister Gareth was quick to heal everyone." She nods lightly. She takes the offered water gratefully, gulping it down, before smiling at you again.

That's great social interaction there.

Mostly, or all?
>>
>>26764618
She isn't useless because she's a mute you fuckwit, she's useless because she's done fuck all the help us do anything aside from get horny, what does THAT tell you about her character?
>>
>>26764640
>sociopathic powergaming
>>
>>26764623
What's your opinion on this whole silly romance thing Magister?
Oh, and I told you this would happen.
There was no stopping it.
>>
>>26764640
>Shows us many interesting potions
>one is a "stamina" potion
>we get her to drink it
>she becomes horny
>she is useless and only wants to have sex!

Whats your problem man
>>
>>26764635
There are some interesting things you could do with advanced alchemy... but that's true of all the Schools. Except maybe Force.
>>
>>26764555
Well the main point I see is that we aren't strong enough to fight... anything really. And we don't even know if she can fight at all. But I do agree with you.
>>
>>26764666
I find it vaguely amusing. I also figured this would happen.
>>
>>26764663
Can you seriously say she's been a good character either?
She's dull and bland and has hardly shown any emotions, fuck, Vann has more character than her.
>>
>>26764666
I can't believe you were so right about all this.

Archmagister, save us. Force us into some kind of plot asap so we have something to focus on other than waifu wars. I recommend we get kidnapped or something.
>>
>>26764671
>Except maybe Force.
So, we can't smash atoms together or rip them apart at high levels to induce fuckhuge booms?
>>
>>26764684
A succubus could have helped us fight.

>>26764712
In before we date and argue about dumping our bro Vann, who knew this would happen.
>>
>>26764685
That's why I'm glad we didn't take her chastity.
With romance, I must say it's slow and steady as fuck with /tg/ otherwise we get dissenters and an eventual shitstorm.
>>
>>26764733
I said 'maybe'. To smash atoms together would require very high skill. I'm talking exceeding Ranafiel. Good luck with that.

>>26764721
Plot is around the corner. And, if all goes well, it's crash into us at high velocity.
>>
SO MUCH METAGAMING IS KILLING IT.

ACT LIKE YOU THINK MCTERRORCASTLE WOULD, THE END.
>>
>>26764781
Seriously. These faggots need to fucking stop.
>>
>>26764721
I recommend he just slows the entire romance anything down, possibly even to a halt.
Toss us a fuckhueg amount of plot hooks on any and every sort of magic, and hope we're entertained.
And while doing so introducing more possible love interests, and whatnot, along the way too, but again, slow it all down.
>>
>>26764781
Okay, can we start the game and immediately roll to summon the succubus then? We're gonna fail binding it but at this point who cares.
>>
>>26764762
What about absorbing kinetic force and storing it?
Or even redirecting it?
>>
>>26764740
While this is true, I almost feel like it's too cliche. Its I'd feel like we were playing world of shitcraft all over again.
>>
I wonder what Tall Dickass Forcemage's alignment was.
>>
>>26764781
Based on most of our actions.
We want to have a threesome with our teacher and a succubus.
>>
>>26764859
Next thread we should get a group of our friends together and go touch the rock things that Pythianne talked about.
>>
>>26764781
METAGAMING ABOUT HOW TO STOP THE METAGAMING IS ALSO METAGAMING.

YOU ARE HAIRY MCTERRORCASTLE, THE INCARNATION OF SWAGGER, YOU AREN'T SOME LITTLE BOY WHO STUTTERS WHEN TALKING TO GIRLS.

FORGET EVERYTHING THAT ANYONE EVER SAID, YOU *ARE* HAIRY MCTERRORCASTLE AND YOU ARE FUCKING LUCKY TO BE HIM, NOW ACT THAT WAY.
>>
>>26764869
>summon succubus
>have bowie help us control her even without binding
>feed her that magic viagra
>give pythianne some magic viagra as well
>have bowie make sure the succubus doesn't kill us
>be sexually satisfied for the rest of our lives

I think it's a solid plan.

Hairy McTerrorCastle life plan.
>>
I think we should learn some Destruction. It will be fantastic for defense against the dickasses, and we have a secret clubhouse to learn it in.
>>
>>26765027
Wouldn't that just be playing into the stereotype that people born with an affinity for destruction all go on to be really destructive people? We have a chance to smash a hurtful stereotype once and for all!

I'd rather grind summoning and Force some more before adding another school to focus on. Since we have the affinity it doesn't really matter when we start, we'll probably get levels in it really easily anyway.
>>
>>26765097
Exactly, so lets start as soon as possible!

Study HARD
>>
>>26765097
Not learning Destruction so as to appease the people that will only be dissuaded from killing us by us becoming too powerful to kill?

For some reason, I don't think that will work. They want us dead for being a (potentially)powerful mage. Not adding Destruction to our repertoire will not deflate their murderboner.
>>
>>26765171
As long as we keep getting better at Summoning I'll be happy. And if we could make better friends with Vann that'd be cool too.
