You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Having volunteered to return to your home sector, Paxia, in order to secure information about a supposed gateway into the unexplored sector Corgus. A choke-point of goods flowing into and out of the frontier sector, ripe for Lord Wilson's wolf pack to plunder. If you don't get caught and killed for being a pirate, that is. Your journey from Deus to Paxia encountered a small hitch, however, and the fickle nature of warp travel has cast your vessel and, thankfully, your partner's vessel into the year 340.M41. Undaunted, Captain Morix and yourself began your infiltration mission by visiting your home world, Garenthis.
>>
Returning home under the name of the man you cut down to capture your vessel, Captain Menexel, you found that old enemies and old friends still thrived. Your family, not so much. Shortly after your escape from this forsaken world, your father and several siblings were assassinated. Assuming control of your noble family, your step-mother bled the family nearly to destruction until your eldest brother exposed her and her son as heretic cultists. Mortally wounded, your family name hangs upon the edge of oblivion, the various siblings left mostly to fend for themselves.

After cutting down a quartet of Periun goons sent to collect you for some form of blackmail and ransom combined, you find yourself in your elder sister's trading office and a very awkward family reunion. Your younger sister Synne once again clings to your arm as she loved to do so long ago, the two of you worriedly looming over your fainted elder sister Alica as your old combat instructor fans her. "Miss Alica, miss Alica?"

Wounded from your earlier fight, your companion and fellow pirate Ana struggles not to laugh at the situation before her.

Gerard looks at you, his eyes giving you a silent, stern lecture. 'Fairly skilled' and 'medicae' should never be used together unless you've ceased caring to live. "She's fine, just fainted from the shock of recognizing you's all."

Reaching out, you softly tap your fainted sister's cheek. "Come now, dear sister. This behavior is entirely beneath our fine breeding." Your efforts yield little result, though Synne manages a soft bit of laughter. "You still know nothing of women, Percius." Reaching into a discrete pocket in her clothing, your dear sister pulls a small object the size of her thumb and snaps it in half with practice. Alica's eyes open with a start shortly after the pungent odor is waved near her nose.

"Percius!"

Your sister's body tenses, her arms moving quickly as she rises slightly upon an elbow.

Darkness overtakes you as your head is suddenly jerked to the side, the sensation of a fist digging into your jaw searing into your mind. "You bastard! Where were yo-"

You awake on the floor, an enraged Alica standing over you as Gerard attempts to restrain her. "You show up now, Percius!? After that bitch destroys our name? Those Periun goons coming in and ruining what little we have left? Little Percius comes back with a ship and that stupid smile, calling himself 'Captain'! Emperor, we're saved! Our dead brother, returned to save us all from this miserable shit!" Something wet falls upon your cheek, your sister slowly losing her strength as Gerard keeps her from falling. "If you're back from the dead then were is father!? Where are our brothers!? Why are you the only one back from the dead, you little shit!?"

Alica breaks free of Gerard as you begin to rise, her arms snatching you to her as her unexpected strength tightens around you. "You little shit, Percius. You stupid little shit." Synne's arms wrap around you both. Your face is going to hurt for a long time.
>>
>>26736303

Eventually you're freed of Alica's embrace and led to an improvised table, your sisters both allowed to rest where they lay exhausted from their communal crying. Gerard takes the seat across from you with a sigh. "I suppose you'll be wanting to know more about it all, then." You simply nod, your jaw too sore to move for a 'yes'.

"Your step-mother took control after your father and siblings were killed. They never really figured out who actually planted the bomb, just suspicions. Leandros swears it was your step-mother, though. She bled the family for all it was worth through mismanagement, feeding her forsaken little cult upon only a cut of everything she destroyed. Leandros eventually got the better of the bitch, though. Even let me light the bitch's pyre in the square." His grim face flashes satisfaction for a moment. "She screamed to her false god nicely when the sanctified promethium started burning at her legs and slowly higher."

"Ever since, Leandros has been struggling to rebuild the dynasty. He's a fool, though. That harlot dealt a death blow. Only your married sisters survived it, boy. The rest of your brothers and sisters have to make due on their own. Most of them are likely scattered across the Sector or beyond, by now. I'm only here because Alica and Synne offered me a job."

>Orders?
>>
>>26736327
My first priority is the safety of my siblings.
Then the removal of the Periun family from the picture.
From there I shall begin to restore our name, whether Alica believes it to be hopeless or not.
>>
>>26736327
"As unfortunate as most of that is, we're still alive and we're still relatively rich. That's what matters the most in the end. Now, why don't you tell me what Leandros is doing.
I'm sure that he could use a trustworthy captain to do business with."
>>
>>26736387
My rough outline of a plan is to get our sisters to safety and see if there's any mutually beneficent ventures our brother can come up with.
Then, once we build up some cash, we kill the Periun with whatever we want because we can afford it. I would not mind raiding their shipments either.

That's all for later, though. We're already years late on our task and that must be dealt with first.
>>
>>26736327
What of the Periun? Are they and other vultures trying to pick at what we have left? We may have been dealt a serious blow, but I still plan on trying to help to bring us up from this. How is Leandros doing anyway?

(And now we have a goal: Funnel part of our personal wealth that we make into turning our family strong again)
>>
>>26736535
>(And now we have a goal: Funnel part of our personal wealth that we make into turning our family strong again)
I don't think that's viable. Keeping a ship running is costly enough as it is. I'd rather cooperate with them so we both profit.
>>
>>26736633
True, well the general idea is to find a way to strengthen our families standing and I would like to think by whatever means necessary. (A pirate's life for me)
>>
>>26736692
Wekk, the obvious solution would be to have our brother keep an eye out on anything the Periun try to ship in or out of the planet and then call our pirate buddies to rob the ships transporting the stuff blind.

We and our pirates divide the loot between ourselves, our brother gets a cut because he tipped us off and the Periun get fucked.
We also get the chance to grab more ships that way and that's always important.
>>
>>26736795

The only issue with this is that the Wolfpack is moving to Corgus...

Maybe if we can convince and/or encourage the family to move to Corgus with us... Then we will have a friendly business with which to do business, both via trade and targets...

Either way, I think we can spare one of the crates of Nebula Sapphires for our family... a small one if they want to stay, a medium if they want to join...
>>
>>26736974
>The only issue with this is that the Wolfpack is moving to Corgus...

Ultimately, that depends on how hard it is to move between the sectors. Taking a few weeks of travel time to prepare a raid isn't really much of an issue considering the potential payoff.

>Either way, I think we can spare one of the crates of Nebula Sapphires for our family... a small one if they want to stay, a medium if they want to join...

Being in possession of those things is too risky for them. It's fine with us because we're a pirate, but they are legitimate. They can't afford to be caught with them. Or trying to sell them.

Gerard flares with anger. "Boy, this shithole business and the apartment your two sisters share are what your family has left for riches!" Quieting his voice, he leans toward you. "Those Periun bastards fell upon your family like starved wolves. You and Selenti are likely the only two left that don't wonder if the Periuns are going to kill them like that bitch killed your brothers and sisters."

"We're a noble family, Gerard. We'll restore our name and put those Periun bastards out of the picture."

"Maybe five, ten years ago. Percius, your family is noble only on paper. Your brothers and sisters are paupers, and this damned business is only afloat because Leandro and Jerim bleed themselves to keep it scratching by. You've been gone too long, Percius." Gerard pulls a flask from his hip, looking at it sullenly. "I was saving this, hoped your sister would find a good man to marry and care for both of them." Looking between you and the flask, he opens it. "You'll have to do, and I highly suggest you only care for them. Nothing good will come of the former." Taking a long swig of his drink, he offers some to you.

Also, good night, it's getting late here. See you tomorrow, hopefully.

Your former instructor's face goes blank at your words, his flask soon retreating. "The boy comes back from the dead and won't save his sisters? Emperor help me, Wallaby. Yer boy's not what we thought he'd be." Exasperated, Gerard downs the rest of his flask before covering his face with his hand, elbow upon the table. "Just tell me you're a sign from the Emperor that we're all to join his side, boy. Get it over with."

>>26737642

"Only Gerard stayed with us, Percius. He's the only one left." Alica's eyes are red from her earlier crying, her voice carrying a slightly hoarse tone as she sits and speaks. "The rest left with the family's wealth or were killed in our step-mother's little purges. Leandro found her little 'art' collection before more of us were added, thank the Emperor." With a sigh, she turns her weary, green eyes to you. "What is it that you don't seem to understand, Percius? That our family fell to heresy twice and we're cursed?"

With a sigh, you give in to your sister's defeatism. "I'll offer nothing more than a quick tour of my ship for now. I still have faith that the family name can be salvaged, and my own work isn't exactly glorious nor safe by any means."

Gerard looks at you, his hand still concealing the lower half of his face. "So yeh went and contacted Synne, of all people? She's not going to watch you fly off for another fifteen ye-" Alica's hand motion silences Gerard. "What is done is done. Thank the Emperor he is alive or keep your mouth shut." "Aye, Miss Alica. My apologies." Your sisters and Gerard spend the next few minutes locking up the store, Synne pulling a small pack from behind a counter and beaming at you. Alica sighs. "Put your bob back, Synne. We're being given a tour, not an invitation." Synne pouts, but does not resist her elder sister taking the pack away.

Ana and Gerard are on edge as your little group heads to your ship, each of them gripping a laspistol tightly within their clothing during the walk. Thankfully, their paranoia is unfounded and you reach your vessel unmolested.

Eyeing a team of armsmen from the Rockhounds, Gerard turns to you. "With your leave, Master Percius, I believe you and your sisters have a private chat ahead, it seems I have some soldiers to give a hollering to, and I believe this beautiful companion of yours could use a flirtatious escort to your medicae."

"Going to set up an alternate way for my sisters to sneak aboard?"

Gerard raises an eyebrow. "Actually, I was going to teach them to stop that."

You take your sisters for a brief tour of your vessel, though you limit it mostly to the command areas. As your sister Synne admires the dorsal armaments from the parade bridge, her hands and face pressed against the thick arma-glass, Alica weakly smiles. "Father wanted to give you this, he just... never found the words." As you open the small black box with the key she offers, you find yourself looking at a bronze cryptex. Your fingers glide over the rings of ivory with letters and numbers carved into them, your eyes drawn to a small, folded note pinned to the inside of the box. 'Percius' flows in your father's script upon the parchment. With a twinge of disgust, you close the box; Alica's smile fades.

"I should tell you, then. You're family and should know." Your sisters both look to you, Synne practically hanging upon the cliff of your hesitation. "I'm a pirate. Well, I was a pirate since my ship was captured and I joined their crew. Slaughtered my way up the ranks as an armsman, now I'm a Captain... and I'm a better salvage hunter than a pirate, really." Looking at your elder sister, you sigh. "It just, it isn't safe, coming with me, but I can help. Hit Periun ships, take their cargoes back to the rest of the wolf pack. Get your ships harassed but have them escape to give you a leg-up on the competition reputation-wise. We can rebuild the family name! Toge-" Alisa's hand covers your mouth, muffling you.

Just... let it pass, please. Father didn't raise us to be helpless. We know our litanies and our faith is strong, but we'll never enact miracles."

Synne hops beside you excitedly, trying to draw your attention away from Alica. "The Dread Pirate Percius Aurex and his deadly sisters! We'll even get you a hat, a reaaaaaallly big one!"

"I do believe that one knows your weakness, Captain."

Keller feigns being stabbed in the chest. "Swords! My only weakness! And being shot! Or blown up!"

Synne and Alica roll their eyes at his response, your elder sister quickly interjecting herself. "We're in, but we're walking when the time is right." Synne moves to protest, but you silence her by raising your hand. "Any man or woman is free to take their leave of this crew at any port." Synne again hugs you, your two officers smiling at each other.

Alica cracks her knuckles and stretches her arms across her chest in turn. "I'll deal with Jerim. It wouldn't be proper to have him know you're alive and pretending to be someone else, he'll be obliged to ask questions, as the administrator. Gerard will stay and help him, I'm sure of it. If you'll excuse me, Percius."

As your elder sister makes to leave, you call out. "That's CAPTAIN Percius!"

"I'll call you that in fifteen years."

Synne is soon running over to Elise and Keller, introducing herself.

As your sister's attention wanders to Keller's Sly Marbo jokes, you pull Elise aside. "Any word from our astropath on a reply from Lord Wilson?"

"No, sir. Astropathic communication is apparently not instant, but we should get word back soon if they're out there. It... said it would resend the message every week until a reply came back." Elise glances at your younger sister, her mind clearly wandering. "Sly, Captain needs you. Hop-to! As for you, little lady, come along. We'll need to find you two suitable quarters." Synne frowns, clearly enjoying Keller's Sly Marbo knowledge. "Lead the way, Miss Eberhardt."

You make your way toward one of the larger mustering areas of your vessel, finding the Rockhounds in full gear being run through a basic melee drill you remember well, old Gerard pacing before their formation as he yells. "Strike! Block! Grab! Strike! Reset."

Honestly, it is quite comical to watch. "Keller, take over for him."

Gerard looks worn, but keeps the rigid stance you remember from your youth. "Good to see you haven't lost your touch, old man." "Nor you your defiant spirit, Master Percius." "My sisters will be joining me, I was hoping that you'd jo-" "No. I'm too old for this shit, Master Percius. I've still your brothers to look after here, as well."

"Fair enough. I feel that I should do something of a favor for Leandro and Jerim, since they kept my sisters afloat while bleeding themselves. Perhaps I can help make their business successful."

Nan Pendert's best contacts for Corgus information are a pair of Imperial Navy captains, noted to be assigned to Steward's Gate. It is unknown if they're on patrol from there.

She's given you a general information contact for each major planet of Paxia, beyond that.

>Choose Destination:

>Steward's Gate - Imperial Navy stronghold, rumored Gateway to Corgus from Paxia [3 Months of travel]
>Brinica Prime - Hive world and seat of the Sector Governor for the last six generations [3 Months of travel]
>Barivia - Homeworld of Elise Eberhardt. A mountainous Agri world, Barivia's twin moons contain seas and host a healthy supply of edible life. [2 Months of travel]
>Ferinox - A sparsely populated world due to only several decades of settlement. This world is notable for the massive forests that sprawl across it's surface. [4 Months travel]

They're numbered with links to each on the wiki archive page. Guess I can start doing that again, though.

Stop replying to retards.

>>26751249
Well, we will need to find these captains. Or contact them somehow. Can we send them a message? Arrange a meeting? Get an intermediary to handle the trade?
>>
>>26751395

>Contact them somehow
The Imperial Navy places a very low priority upon relaying personal messages to their captains, but it would eventually get to the Captain.

>Arrange a meeting
If you find them in port or on patrol. Duty first.

>Intermediary to handle the trade
Set down a plan for it and see what happens!

>reply to retards
Shameful is the spirit that does not attempt saving fragile human souls from damnation.
>>
>>26751468
but those souls are already damned...

as too 'wat do', my votes for Steward's Gate, it may be a little risky, but its got our best contacts assigned there, and most likely the best second hand info we would want about the route
>>
>>26751468
I don't think we've got anything alse todo here, so I suggest setting course to Steward's Gate, maybe give the girls some time to get ready.

Meanwhile, our Astropath could send an message to Steward's gate to ask for the Catains.
>>
>>26751249
If there are lots of resources going into Corgus, maybe we could lean more from Brinica Prime or maybe Bariva?

I want to leave Steward's Gate for last just incase since we ARE pirates.
>>
>>26751716
I guess we won't have much trouble if we don't start pirating.

besides... I find the lack of hats here disturbing... we should try to find our father's old hat as long as we're here!

The problem isn't about us pirating it's about word of our vessel being a pirate ship reaching the ears of the navy while we made our way over here. Though if we are lucky they have the same time problem that we had.

You join your sisters in bidding Gerard farewell before your ship departs Garenthis, meeting up with Captain Morix's vessel to burn for the system's edge. Warp travel is oddly calm, Navigator Veritas commenting as such when you inquire as to her condition. "I fear a storm is coming, Captain Aurex. I feel it in my gut."

Alica and Synne settle in to their quarters, though it seems that Synne is more often than not clinging to either yourself or Elise, your XO filling your younger sister's mind with tales of your shared adventures and trials that you'd rather your sweet sister never know of. Especially that one about Keller saving you from the ratling cook during one boarding action. Your elder sister is often found with Tes, the two of them soon bonding in the officer's mess as they prepare a seemingly endless stream of meals with the addition of a few choice bits of your sister's former inventory. Elise and yourself seem to enjoy the additions the most, often playing a friendly game of 'vanishing food' as you both attempt to claim that little extra bit of food from home. Sadly, your sister never thought to deal in alcohols.

"I've been thinking, Alica. I could use someone with a mind for trade and numbers, and you've got more experience than anyone else aboard."

Your sister sighs, putting down her small glass of wine. "I'm by no means good, Percius, but I'll do it if you ask it of me." Synne is quick to cut you off, her voice still full of energy. "Oh! What can I do?"

"Can you sew hats, dear Synne?"

Your younger sister pouts. "Do I look like a Milliner to you?"

"Didn't you learn how to sew? I don't see why you coul-"

"I'm going to go find Keller and have him teach me to make BOMBS!" Synne storms out of the mess, her fists clenched. Cursing, you move to straighten out your newest crew member.

"Let her go. She's just like you, the Emperor will guide her toward her own path, and I'm sure Keller won't kill her."

"I'm more worried she'll have a Sly Marbo addiction from spending time with him." Sharing a look with your sister, you both burst into laughter.

The transitions seem easier, now, at least for you. Your sisters seem queasy, however, and are led off to the medicae to ensure their warp sickness is dealt with quickly. Kihomi stands at her station, looking to you. "Warp virgins. They'll get used to it. Helm requests orders, Captain."

"Bring us into the system and hail the naval station. Transmit our registry from Garenthis and inform them we've experienced time distortion on our journey to Paxia."

Your crew moves about their tasks, Elise eventually delivering the news that your sisters will recover in short order. "We've been given clearance to pull into a parking orbit near the civilian station, and the Captain," pausing, your XO inspects her dataslate. "Captain Erik Velant is due to return from patrol in the next few days, and will be informed that we've requested a moment of his time. It seems Captain Carmen Dergo is on extended patrol in sector Corgus."

"So we've got time to kill."

Once more you find that melta guns elude you, every merchant looking at you like you're some sort of fool. "Ha! That's a good one, Captain. Melta weapons have been on back-order for well over a year!"

The civilian station is full of colorful characters, Tes carrying her lasgun and wearing a carapaced cuirass as your bodyguard. You make the usual rounds, eventually finding an information broker claiming to have the information you seek. Young, sharply dressed, and wearing a hat that looks like it could literally cut through a tense air. "Welcome, Captain Menexel was it? Looking for information on the Galian Salient? Well, good sir, you've come to the right man! I've got the best collection of Corgus information outside of the late Rogue Trader Galia's lost ships! Yette Rodar, at your service."

"I'm looking to find a niche to exploit in the needs of the frontier, my partner and I feel that Corgus will make us rich. We need good trade routes, the military strengths of the systems to determine where to best take our cargo, political situations of the frontier, things of this nature. I also require the coordinates to guide me into the sector, as well." You conveniently leave out that you've a number of commonly sold false coordinates to check his information against.

"Well, I can not provide information that does not yet exist, Captain. There are no trade routes, yet, nor does the navy part with it's patrol routes. I've some information on the political situation, though I can not swear upon the Emperor's good name such information is perfectly accurate." Shrugging, the man quickly loads up a dataslate with the information he is offering. "Now, of course, Captain. This will cost you. I'm a reputable man, but I have a family of ten to feed and a wife that just won't quit trying to flip desperate traders' wives' jewelry. Two hundred and fifty wealth."

What specifically do you offer the man?

>You think back to the conversation with Alexander Kerr...
Kerr smiles. "A very diplomatic answer. The larger ones may fetch close to a gold bar each to the right buyer, but don't expect any sort of bulk sale at such prices. The smaller ones," the man quietly picks up the smaller gem, holding it up to one of the lights above. "Harder to say, they may be worth up to a thousand thrones or so, if this is a good example of your stock." Carefully returning the gem to the table, he takes another sip of his drink.

>Thinking back to your conversation with the bartender during the Captain's meeting...
"One million thrones a bottle, easy. Likely more if you can find a Protheran, since those Astartes allowed the world to be ravaged. Rumor has it that it that there won't be a centenial harvest until 500, possibly 600." The man pours himself a small glass of wine and offers it to you in toast. "As we say on Prothera, Captain. To life and luck. Emperor be with you." Tapping your glass against his, you smile. "And also with you, friend."
>>
>>26769720
>One million thrones a bottle

We could buy this information with two bottles and some cash if we can convince him.
>>
>>26770177
>>26770154
Well how about we go for the full package with two bottles of the wine and then offer if he would want the rest in thrones or maybe something a little more "interesting" that we found in our travels.
>>
>>26770177
Isn't a million thrones about one wealth?
>>
>>26770278

1 million thrones = 10 wealth [for the purposes of this quest]

The broker wants 22 million thrones, which means 220 wealth

>>26770270

Specify what 'interesting' thing you're offering.

Then roll 1d100 to convince him of the value of your cargoes. [flat fellowship]
>>
>>26770417
>Ah, well nevermind. Let's tell him we will be back after after we talk to our companion aka wait to see if we can get the information from the Captain
>>
>>26770425

"Well, I do not believe I'll be vanishing into the unknown, Captain Menexel. Do bring your companion along next time, we'll have a much easier time coming to a deal." Mr Rodar escorts you out of his establishment, bidding you farewell. "Hat lovers such as us should stick together, good Captain!"

Tes returns to your side, having investigated a nearby bar for naval officers. "Looks fancy enough for Naval officers, Captain. Care to buy me a drink, then?" You smile at her play for attention, wondering if you may have to deal with some jealousy between the various women in your life. Maybe you should recruit some more men, but then again... the views are so nice around the ship. "Now Tes, you know we don't drink on the job." The incredulous look upon her face soon turns to a moment of shared chuckling. "Too much!"

Walking up to the bar, you call the bartender's attention. Unfortunately, he doesn't approve of Tes' lasgun. "Yea', that ain't allowed in 'ere. Gonna 'ave to ask ya to leave."

"There is a good tip for you if you ignore my guard's slightly excessive worry, friend." People are always in the mood for a bit of a bribe, and this man is no exception as you slide a few larger thrones across the bar top toward him. "Pull the charge pack and keep it out of sight, toots. What'a ya two gonna 'ave?"

Tes is quick to remove her weapon's charge pack and order one of the specialty drinks, some sort of green liquid with a viscous, sinking gas bubbling up from it and settling within the massive glass. Your eyes roll as Tes gives the barman a flirtatious look and takes the drink's straw between her lips.
