Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Recent Events Summary:

You have entered, and escaped the Archonium. In so doing, you have confronted your Temerity, embraced your Humanity, and helped Abigail achieve balance and return to the world. It's a trial that will sit with you, and her, for the rest of your lives...but it's one you've beaten.

You decided that your priority needs to be finding the Staff of Winds and healing Sir Flint of his parasite. Fang told you the location of the staff - Xile, the floating isles of the wind mages. Unfortunately, Xile is surrounded by fierce winds that make up the core of the spell that encompasses the entirety of Venia, making it totally inaccessable.

However, Fang also located the landing site of the Goddavi family, Flint's ancestors and the sole group that retreated from Xile before they cast the skysever as a countterattack against the Black Hand. If there's any clue to returning to the islands, it'll be there.

When you returned to Haven, you barely ducked a patrol of angels flying over the forest. They've set up camp - right where you need to go.

You've learned that Lucifer, an angel second only to Sandalphon, is leading an excavation effort - and his goal is the staff of winds. He's using Vonnegut's resources to accomplish this task as fast as possible, but his anxiousness to see it done created a rift between himself and the crime lord. You capitalized on that, earning Vonneguts allegiance and promising him access to your contacts, and to have him accompany you if you ever meet with the Black Lady, Queen of Vampiria.

But before Vonnegut could create his promised distraction, the earth split open - and the constructs of City 002 attacked in great force. You and your party managed to reach the inside of the excavation, and you've discovered it's an airship once piloted by Flint's ancestors, long since buried after they fled from the skysever.

The ancient technology recognized Flint's touch, and began to power up once again. Poised so close to finding the staff, you decide to pilot the wind-driven ship through the storm of the skysever to reach the islands of Xile, the floating kingdom of Aeolus.

Auriel and your party crew the bridge. Vonnegut and Sir Flint take the engine room; Abigail is now patrolling the inside of the ship, ridding it of any unwated guests. You've moved to the upper decks, where Lucifer himself is battling against a powerful robot powered by an earth dynamo. Their fight isn't good for the health of the airship - if you don't do something soon, you'll drop out of the sky before reaching your destination.

You come to. You're not sure how long it's been. You stand up.

An evening sun is shining down on you. You hold up an arm to block the light. You're outside?

No, not outside - but you're on the edge of a huge hole blown in the top of the airship. It stretches down several decks, revealing intersecting hallways and stairwells. Snaps of magic spark at you where the wiring is broken and frayed.

"ShhKadoshw!" You hear Auriel's voice through a nearby speaker. It's distorted and warped by the damage. "Husltl damage iskh...we cashkt mskht hits!"

The message is garbled, but you get the idea. Stop the airship from being blown to bits.

You hop to the top of the hole to look around. You immediately feel dizzy.

You're standing on the edge of the airship, and you're high in the air - higher than you've ever flown. It isn't practical to go so high you can't land in a reasonable amount of time, but the airship has no such limits. The Great Forest stretches below you like a green rug covering the earth. The airship's wings appear delicate and flowing, as if it was built to be like wind. You're not sure if that's aesthetic, or if it holds some magical significance.

You glance up at the sky, and your eyes widen. The skysever is close, and it's huge - a massive, spherical cyclone of winds, big as a moon. You can hear the thunderclaps and the shearing of the air spinning on the edge of the globe at high speeds. You're hurtling straight for it.

You can see the airship's shields working to keep those forces at bay, wind fighting wind. It forms a sort of translucent barrier a short distance away, wrapping about the ends and pieces of ths ship. Touching it would probably be a bad idea.

The robot is in worse shape - still together, but there's noticeable damage around the housing on its torso that holds the dynamo. Lucifer warps in and smashes his hammer into the robot's chest before it can recover from taking the blast, slapping it back down the deck.

The hits the hull hard, but adjusts quickly, getting its feet back underneath it. It sprints across the hull for its arms. Lucifer doesn't make any immediate move, but watches you carefully, and waits.

And nobody try to attack Lucy now. He didn't hesitate to attack us both, but he hasn't target us specifically, and we haven't targeted him. No need to make this harder on us than we need to. And since he needs the ship, we may be able to do some Vonnegut-style diplomacy after we take out the robot.

Its torso spins a 180 as you slam into its chest. You ink your way into the nooks and gaps, and then forcibly expand. There's a long ugly creak as the torso bends. But your efforts are hampered by a flurry of punches slamming into your sides. You cling to the armor for dear life.

Adavan is definitely good, but I dunno if he's good enough to handle the Ring City's second in command, plus his lackeys with just one summoned creature as backup.

We're probably better equipped to handle Lucifer anyway, seeing as his main advantage is speed, which is something we can actually make a run at matching. The robot is tough and big, and its big magic is obviously bad news, but it's not terribly scary otherwise, and Adavan can probably handle it.

The robot will also probably be focusing on either us or Lucifer while charging due to his directives, so Adavan will have the element of surprise to some extent, whatever that actually does for him.

<Adavan, my attacks are no good! Try to attack Lucifer!>

You lunge for the robot, leaping over the scare in the hull left form Lucifer's spell. The construc is still moving, but awkwardly, and you catch it without difficulty. You dig your claws into the armor, desperately trying to remove the dynamo before another magical explosion can damage the ship.

The Banshee jumps and glides toward the angels. Its screech strikes the angel's spell, continues forward, and blows him to bloody pieces on the spot. The other angels dive wide to flank the Banshee as it lands, and they're quickly locked in close combat.

Adavan stays near the doorway to the airship. You can feel a surge of spirit at Lucifer's position. The angel's hands fly to his temples, and his face twists in pain. He tosses and turns, firing magic around himself blindly to try and cut the last of your bindings. The hull is damaged, but he doesn't open any more holes.

The earth magic reaches a peak.

The dynamo pops free, and the spell dies. You clutch the powerful sphere of earth close to your chest, and sigh in relief.

The airship enters the storm.

Clouds engulf your vision. The shielding buckles. Thunder slams your ears, drowning out everything shriek of the winds - a banshee's wail that never ends. You're forced down to the ground. You clutch at the hull, desperately trying to find purchase, but there's nothing to grab. You scramble for safety before the winds blow you away like a leaf.

As suddenly as they raged forward, the winds vanish. The air is calm. Behind you, a wall of grey wind still swirls, but now you sit in blue sky.

Xile stretches before you.

The islands are vast, and numerous. Most of it seems to be covered in woodland, or even large bodies of water. Many smaller rocks float about, drifting like clouds.

Dotted here and here about the landscape are signs of life - ruined buildings. In the distance, toward the center of the main island, you can see a great castle set amongst other buildings on a series of tiered islands. Far to the east, you can see what appears to be another city, larger than the one in the center.

The darkness you felt is suddenly much more clear. It lingers in one of the ruined buildings closer to you.

You don't see any signs of the airship...or anyone else, for that matter.

And then the winds hit you all at once.

You leap downward. Chasing you is what look like winds that are -alive-. You can see faces inside of it, roiling, mutating faces. You barrel for the surface and land on the edge of a lake.

The winds chasing you vanish. You sigh in relief. It seems that you're not out of the skysever just yet.

Now that you pay attention, the wind here...is strong. It weighs upon you, squeezing the sense of earth strongly. The trees themselves seem bent into the wind. You carefully tuck your earth dynamo into your sachel - you're amazed the belt made it through the skysever in one piece, but you're not going to complain. It's full enough now that it can't hold anything else.
