Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

You have entered, and escaped the Archonium. In so doing, you have confronted your Temerity, embraced your Humanity, and helped Abigail achieve balance and return to the world. It's a trial that will sit with you, and her, for the rest of your lives...but it's one you've beaten.

You decided that your priority needs to be finding the Staff of Winds and healing Sir Flint of his parasite. Fang told you the location of the staff - Xile, the floating isles of the wind mages. Unfortunately, Xile is surrounded by fierce winds that make up the core of the spell that encompasses the entirety of Venia, making it totally inaccessable.

However, Fang also located the landing site of the Goddavi family, Flint's ancestors and the sole group that retreated from Xile before they cast the skysever as a countterattack against the Black Hand. If there's any clue to returning to the islands, it'll be there.

When you returned to Haven, you barely ducked a patrol of angels flying over the forest. They've set up camp - right where you need to go.

Do they know about the staff, and the landing site? Or have they merely been able to track your movements? You're not sure, but you're going to find out.

>Last time...

When you wake, the air is still. The space is dark. You know it's been some time, though you couldn't say how long.

The only sound is a gentle breathing.

Abigail is curled up next to you. Her wings are folded back behind her. Her arms and head rest in your lap.

You don't move. You don't wish to wake her.

"...shadow? Are you awake yet?"

You start. <...I just woke. I thought you were asleep.>

"I just..." She yawns, sits up, stretches. "Same here."

<Abby...what's on your mind?>

"...not much, I guess."

You don't let her get away with that. And this close, she can't evade, anyway. <Something is bothering you. What is it?>

Abigail slowly folds her legs inward. "...you'll think I'm being stupid."

<I'd never think that.>

Your tone makes her look up at you. "...I...what if...this is just an illusion?"

<What do you mean?>

"I could change things," she said. "What if I made this up? What if I walked through a door...and this is just anther trick? I'm still inside. This is just another test. Another way to hold onto me."

<It isn't.>

"Can you prove it?" Abigail says. Her voice cracks. "Can you really prove it? You can't. There's no way. I could be making this all up."

<...I fear the same thing, Abby,> you say. <Sometimes I wonder...that I'll open a door, and I'll be back there. As John. A farmer, stuck in unreality - with an Abigail that isn't real. A fake one I made up to keep myself company.>

"...is that really so bad?" she whispers. "Maybe that one is better than me."

<That's impossible.>

"...it is?"

<I could never bring your forth with all your...self. Your depth. Your personality. Your warmth. I couldn't make it. That thing back in my vision was a doll. You are real.>

"How do you...deal with it?" she asks. "I feel real. I tell you I'm real. But what if it's just a trap to keep you stuck? What if you're a trap to keep me stuck?

<Let me answer you with another question. How do you know that the first world was real, and the Archonium was an illusion? What if the Archonium is actually reality, and all this is just a dream?

But if this is an illusion,> you continue, <then it's a remarkably accurate reproduction of the world as we left it. Those illusions weren't there to give us a world to change, a path to walk. They were like spiderwebs. Honeypots that lured and trapped. I am not stuck here with you. I'm walking forward with you.

<If this was an illusion, Flint would be cured. The world would be at peace. Light and shadow would get along. Chaos and Order would not be at odds. The elementomachy would never have happened. I...wouldn't have to grant you power. You'd be able to live a normal life. You wouldn't have ever gone into the Archonium. If this was an illusion, I wouldn't want it all to be so damn different.>

"But - "

<It's done, Abigail,> you say. <Is there something after, if we die? Does life have any meaning? Is this reality, or just a projection onto the senses?> You take her and bring her close. <You are real, Abby. I am real. That's all I can hope for. And that's enough. That's all I need.>

You sit together in a dark silence broken only by the sound of her tears.

>>
It takes Abigail a while to get it all out. You wait patiently, letting her rest in your embrace. But eventually, she pushes a way and gets to her feet. New determination is set on her face.

You make your way back up out of the small ruin holding the shadow mana pool. Or, you should say, the pool of order.

Abigail speaks to you as you walk up the long, winding staircase to the antechamber. "Hey, Shadow."

<Yes?>

"Did Erebus just want to destroy everything?"

<...it sounds...too simple,> you say.

"That's what I was thinking," Abigail says. "If you're Order, and the rest of us are Chaos...what does that mean? You're standing there. I'm over here. We don't spontaneously annihillate each other when we touch."

<It's never been like that, for me,> you say. <I can destroy things...Consume them. But it's always voluntary.> You think for a moment. <Erebus planned carefully. There's a reason he went for the elementals. I'm not sure why, though.>

"Maybe, once Sir Flint is better, we can look into it."

<We?>

"I'm going with you," Abigail says firmly.

<Is that a fact?>

"Yes."

<Well...I can't say that I'm upset about it.>

"You damn well better not be."

The strong tone makes you glance back. You find her grinning at you.

You reach the antechamber. The two stone golems that guard the doors to the room below are still silent. You wedge the mighty stone shut, and the spell snaps the door locked.

So I was re-reading the quest in came across this:

The water mage nods, and sighs. "...Nulis never should have taken the throne. It wasn't his to take..."

"That isn't our call."

"No. It's a woman's call, isn't it? And she's poison. She's the one that pressed him to demons. I don't even know why we're here. Why are we here?"

Guys. I don't think Obis' fiance is a very nice person. Velik said that the Empire may have set up Kan-Abar to attack and force Kelvere back in to the fold and she's a noble from Heavensgate. I'm also thinking this is why that prophecy said he could still end up dead regardless of our and Freja's help.

Other things worth noting:

Ellandra was apparently blessed by Geb and is the only surviving person to be blessed by an Elemental Lord outside of the Angels. Odd considering Adavan said that only Hyperion and Erebus were capable of Angelifying people, so it may be a different process.

David was able to erase/cancel magic itself, something Erebus himself couldn't do apparently. Yet we can do it with our Humanity(confirmed by SM to be Erasure incarnate). This probably also means there is a higher tier Servant tree/skill(Champion?) or that the completion bonus gives our Chosen Erasure.

Auriel and the angels wanted to kill us specfically to preserve Order and stop the return/spread of Chaos; so even the metaphysical laws of the universe say they're hypocrites.
>>
Abigail frowns. "...you feel that?"

<Feel what?>

"I'm not sure."

<Once, I felt something,> you say. <When I first came here, I used my senses to probe the area at great distance. At the time, I felt something watching me back...a great, ominous prescence. I returned to the surface quickly.>

She shakes her head. "It's not so much an individual as a sense of...something big? Below us. I guess that's the Timorian Deep, right?"

You glance about the room. It's hardly a straightfoward affair; while you know the tight passage you used to get here from Refuge, there are a dozen other such passages and several large caves leading away from the old doors. The Deep is a vast place. <...a mystery for another time. We have business elsewhere.>

"Yeah."

What do you do?

As for talking to Rogul... We never met Rogul. We hid for the duration of our visit. I'm not sure the orcs would take kindly to a shadow elemental showing up.
>>
Alright, so for the Great EXP Debate, Here's my position
Start off with Void Ring + Ray of Darkness, giving us a powerful hyper move and a sniper shot. The shadow magic tree is also where Light resistance is located, and there are two side-branches off of Void ring one of them might contain LR2, which we want before going into combat with the angel forces.
57 EXP remains. (51 with light resist 2)

Frostbite + Great Heal. Frostbite lets us trap spirit resistant enemies, and Great Heal could save our asses if we get knocked down to near 0 hp in one blow, or have to save one of our allies after we/they supercritfails and gets impaled.
40 EXP remains. (or 34)
Water Recovery isn't going to be useful until we are back from the Sky Temple place, but we will still have enough EXP left over to get it if we find a situation where it is useful.

Finally, one or two Levels of Lightning resist, because we are currently weak to it and we are sharing our weaknesses with servant's, possibly amplifying Abagail's natural weakness to lightning.
I also have a slight suspicion that we will run into lightning-element things in the Sky Temple.

At this point, we can stop and save EXP for reactive purchases, though if people wanted too, we might just save -All- our exp and only upgrade in reaction (though we wouldn't be able to get uncovered resistances)

--------

>>26656227

Apparently I'm serving special number 8 today.

Here we go.

-------------
-------------

You fly back to Haven.

Auriel, Flint, Adavan, and Ila are waiting for you, geared up and ready to go. You ask Abigail to keep her wings a secret, for now, as that would be an obvious sign that you were in fact capable of something only Erebus should be capable. Both she and Adavan are confident that they can pass off the use of shadow magic as just part of their natural abilities.

Ila and Cain's scouts have identified the main camp of the angels while you were gone. It's northeast, on the border between your small segment of the forest, the wide orc territory, and the northern section owned by the elves and werewolves. The camp itself is a half-mile within the forest from the meeting stone, but apparently there's some heavy construction going on in the field around the stone itself.

You've recieved intelligence from Janus that large numbers of Kanian forces are scouting and encamped inside the western forest. He's nervous that the demons will make further inroads in some larger plan to circumvent the remnants of Duke Vellik's army, which is fighting along the border with Arland.

>con't
>>
>>26656266
That she did, anon. That she did.
It was an intense series of posts, though, wondering what her crit-fails would bring.

Throwing in for the entire water tree, BTW. I'm not fond of Water Recovery, but everything else is swag so I'm willing to pay the cost for that situational bonus in order to get the tree complete bonus.
>>
I see no reason to aim for void ring at this moment in time. Hell I'd be against the water tree if it wasn't working towards the dark tree. Our build is primarily physical and we should continue to work to supplement it.
>>
I want Automaton
>>
There have been no reports on the movement of the demon lords.

When you ask, Auriel tells you a bit more about the angels themselves, and their command structure (see character sheet for top 14 list). The 13 Highest are those that recieved Hyperion's greatest blessing, and lead the angels themselves in a sort of council. Sandalphon, Most High, as designated by Hyperion himself, is in charge. The rest of the angels are highly regimented, a holdover from the days of active warfare. Each of the Highest acts as a general of a battalion. Under them are lower ranks that split the battalion into units of 40, and then squads of 5 or 10, though exact numbers vary. Others among the Highest are airship captains, and command their own crews. Like many other military forces that fight alongside magic, the lower commanders all have seconds, just in case of unforeseen events.

It is unknown which angel leads the team encamped within the Great Forest.

Fang told you that the approximate landing site of Flint's ancestors - the Goddavis - was also the great stone, where the forest's factions meet for dicussions. You'll need to be cautious.

Ila thinks that staying together as one group, on foot, would be best for concealment. But it'll also be slower going.

How do you approach the stone?

>ask a party member to scout things out while you make your way there on foot
>go on foot; stick together
>scout things out yourself, meet when the rest of the party gets there
>scout by air
>some other strategy

You decide to stay as one group and proceed on foot. It's a bit slower, but you'd rather stay concealed than risk getting pinned by a patrol of angels. Your party could probably take them out...but you need more information on the main encampment, first.

You make your way through the forest. Everyone in your party is experienced enough to avoid making sounds, or deadens their approach with a hint of magic. You and Ila wrap your auras together, and around the party, and you push through the brush.

Ila glances at Adavan, Abigail, and then at you. And then back to them, and back to you. She seems...disconcerted. You wonder if she can sense the fact that you've given them some of your power. You've spent a fair bit of time with Ila.

Do you say anything to her?

You're about 58 quest thread late to make this Shadow overlord quest.
The Archonium in particular was a decisive move toward Shadow being more "Human".

He doesn't really argue and his opinion is very much in the minority at this point since it's usually just plain out of character so he's a pretty trivial name fag.
>>
>>26657139

>>26657346
A small push more and a tiny pinch extra holding his ground and this guy will make it rain rage.
I can tell these things.
>>
>>26657333
We might have accepted humanity, but we also made sure to keep Temerity around so I would say we are aiming to keep the balance between the two sides.

Too much humanity is bad
Too much Temerity is bad
>>
>>26657389
I don't think that really applies to the argument though.

We use Humanity for talking and Temerity for fighting. We're doing the talking thing right now.
>>
So, since SM is out to lunch, I say we have more XP debates discussion, planning future purchases.
>>
>>26657421
Oh, don't mind him, he's just trying to live up to his name.

But yeah, we're definitely human enough to not fuck up Ila's expectations.

If we were going the full Erebus route, she'd be the new Dave by now, with her near-worship of us, but we solved that already with the whole "I'm a friend, not a master" speech.
>>
>>26657438
Teleport is sexy. I want it.

We could warp back to where we were "born" since we touched the mana pool there.
>>
>>26657421
It was more directed at the "We are human" and "We are not human" part as we might have become more human, but we can't forget what we really are.
>>
>>26657438
Eh, sure.

Personally, I think grabbing Teleport and delving into the Earth Magic tree should be a priority. When we're about to confront the Disease Daemon Lord, we should pick up Vigor and Mighty Regen.
>>
>>26657460
>We could warp back to where we were "born" since we touched the mana pool there.
Oh shit I changed my mind, teleport all the way.
>>
If we get Teleport we definitely need to save up the exp for a mana pool in Haven right away.

>>
>>26657514
Are you trying to defend you're "We're not human" arguement and yes, we all know that or is this a legitimate question?
>>
>>26657466
I didn't mean to imply that we're abandoning Temerity, only that we're minimizing him. We've kinda been spitting on him every time he brings talks to us, TBH.

>>26657460
>>26657473
I'm against Teleport for the reason I stated earlier - we're already silly fast, and we're about to acquire the magic staff of Fuck-the-Sky-Sever.

I like the Earth tree, and think it should be our next major thing, definitely before the Spirit tree. But the Poison tree is almost done, it's last two abilities are actually pretty good, and they'll unlock what are essentially the Physical capstone abilities. I'd like to move into those first.
>>
>>26657535
i have the worst memory
so yeah a question
>>
>>26657536
I did agree with you, but >>26657460 the temptation of seeing where we actually were back then is too great.
>>
>>26657460
Oh wow. That's right.

I was thinking mostly about how we weren't able to get to the mana pools in the ring city, and how funny it would have been if we could have just popped back in there whenever we wanted.

>>26657473
Sleeping Gas is nice for when we want to do a nonviolent mission (infiltrating flint's home castle for example) and while Vigor seems a bit expensive for how situational it is, It's complete immunity and it gets us the tree bonus and Mighty Regen unlocked.

>>26657512
We don't need to have a mana pool there immediatly. We can lay down the "Teleport point" there (assuming it can be changed) and when we need to leave somewhere we can just open it up from anywhere.
That would also mean that, since the secondary portal is two-way (i assume), we could open up a gate and call through an army when we go to attack somewhere.

>>26657536
We might actually end up ending the sky sever. We are heading into the keeping grounds for it's core.
Still, teleport is nice because it is instant and for reasons above.

<What's on your mind, Ila?>

She blinks at you, then gestures with her hand. Her fingers twitch and jitter, almost like a talking mouth. ~Did you give this lich...and the girl, your power?~

<I did.>

~I see~

<Does that bother you?>

~Well...no,~ Ila gestures. ~I just...you're always flying around, doing things. I should have realized there were other people you were working with. You offered me that power, too...I know that this is a sign of your great faith in me. So for them to have it...it means you have the same level of trust for them, as you do for me. But I don't know them, personally...it's a little awkward.~

<You're correct,> you say. <Abigail and Adavan...they've been with me since the beginning. And Abigail, in particular...> You trail off. Explaining it right now, on the way to the enemy, just won't do. <She is...very important to me. Almost...sort of like family. Maybe more. It's complicated.>

Ila's hands are still for a moment. Then, she forms a gesture. ~Do you consider~ She stops the next word she was forming, and begins again. ~Do you consider Haven, and us, your family, as well?~

You're not a naive little shadow anymore. You hear the unspoken question. What she really wants to know...is if you consider -her- like family.

~I see.~ Ila's eyes are wet...but she's smiling. Her fingers move, but stubbornly, as if she has to work hard to flex them where she wants them to go. ~You always know the right thing to say. Thank you, Shadow.~

<You are welcome.>

"Ila?" Auriel says. She glances back. "The aura feels a little weak."

"Oh! Ah, sorry. That's me, not Shadow." Ila blinks a few times, then refocuses on the ward.

The ground rumbles.

"Whoa..." Flint steadies himself against a tree. "Shadow, is that you?"

<No. Does anyone sense anything?>

"Nothing here."

"No."

~I can't feel a thing~

"...it's coming from below us," Abigail says. "It's...Earth."

The rumbling increases, louder, heavier. You catch Abigail when she stumbles, holding her steady.

The shaking fades, and stops.

"What in the 8 elements was that?" Auriel says. "Abigail, you sensed something?"

"...yeah. Concentrated earth magic. But it was foggy."

Auriel bites her lip. She glances at you. "Shadow, we're almost to the encampment, and they haven't detected us. That earthquake might serve as enough distraction to help us out..."

"But what about Haven?" Flint asks. "Maybe we should go back."

"We've come this far," Adavan says. "Might as well go all the way."

What do you do?

We are following the adventure of a party that consists of:

A former angel and lich who fought on opposing sides of a war 700 years ago.

A shadow mage whose soul was enslaved by the angel and a half-demon summoner whose parents were killed by a plague the lich caused.

A paladin that's dating the former angel and swore an oath to protect the half-demon despite being renown as a demon slayer and who is best friends with a shadow elemental, leader of the party and originally a god of order that wanted to annhilate all of existence.

This is a party of assorted BBEGs/Heroes working together under the guidance of what was originally th greatest BBEG of them all.
>>
>>26658217

The thing is, we're gearing up for war with demons - Chosen/Tree gift can potentially let us restore the art of golemcrafting to other mages.

Which is a huge deal, since golem armies are as extinct an idea as the dwarfes.

in any case, lets get the best of our options here.

1) Wispbro to haven.
2) Pause/wait, see which direction the earth magic is heading.
3) Analyze the feeling, see if it reminds us of anyone in particular
4) Consider focus or deep focus depending on information this reveals, and whether we want to maintain stealth.
>>
>>26658260
We only get three chosen at maximum, and giving earth tree to all of them would be a waste.

When/if we use chosen on someone, and if we get tree gift, it would probabably bee best to ask the character what they think is the best type of magic for them.
>>

I want to give Abby the shadow magic tree, mainly because she probably has the biggest mana reserves of any of our allies. This would let her use Eclipse when we unlock it, giving us and all our shadow mages twice as long to wreck things with double damage unresisted magic.

Also, Spirit can do a lot of things, but it's the lowest raw damage. Shadow has the highest damage of the lesser elements. They fit nicely together.

They are. Steward said there were, what?

>>
>>26658374
I agree, tentatively. I'd really rather see more of what the Earth tree actually is first.
>>
>>26658347
Golems =/= automatons with power cores.

Those golems that we've been facing were more like giant hunks of stuff directly animated by magic. They're more puppets, while automatons powered by power cores are like robots.

Yes, golems are still a thing. But golems which are self sustained with power cores are not. We are the first thing to make more of them in 700 years.
>>
>>26658374

That's a possibility, but we should really see what everything in the trees can do before committing.

Frankly, when it come to Servanting, I think we should follow Michael's advice and try to reignite Auriel's blessing.

Since we know how it works now, and are in a unique position to sense mana/souls, we'd just need a massive source of Light magic to re-infuse it.
Flint, I'm looking at you.
>>
>>26658290
We are nearly on top of the Angel Encampment.

If we can maintain stealth, we can probably kill them all quickly and then head back.

Sending wisp to scout out the disturbance while we do what we need to is good though.
And I think we got all that we could as far as reading the signature of the magic goes.

>>26658329
My guess is that Machinia Loqui isn't an upgrade on the tree but a plot item, which allows the creation of sapient golems like the City ones as long as a power core is provided, removing the limitation on the number of golems a mage can command (it sustains itself)

>>26658347
The earth tree is special in golem making is that it builds into the potential for Sapient Robots, something other elemental golems don't have normally.

>>26658374
It would mean making her purpose one solely of combat, shadow magic doesn't really do "creation" very well.
Regardless, if we use chosen and tree gift, i stand by the opinion that the character (proxy SM) should decide, as they know best what would work well with them.

Machina Loqui literally means Machine Talk, and is referenced in ability descriptions we have access too - it lets us command our mechanical creations better.

So yeah, its an unlockable ability. Translate for Machines basically.

>>26658449

Maybe. I suggested the earth tree for partial political reasons, though - bringing forgotten golemtech to archon would go a LONG ways towards forcing the council to accept her after the Archonium incident.

>Think about it. Why else would we need the thing gone to remove the curse Hyperion himself placed on Geb?

Actually, I've been wondering that myself.

So, didn't we learn from that sage/prophet and some other stuff that the light parasite was linked to geb, which was there to drive him mad?

Or at least that geb was driven insane by light magic.

And if a shel'kath get attached to a SOUL, it would stay there as long as it tried to reincarnate - it doesn't care about the body.

So if you're right, and flint is hyperion trying to reincarnate.
And hyperion's light magic is what was used to drive geb nuts.

Then by interrupting the flow of that with the amulet flint now carries, geb has some semblance of sanity back, but is still being eternally tormented by the wind-curse.

So that earthquake thing?
It may just be geb trying to get away from the air

I don't think we really need to worry about Abby's political career. Particularly since Fang is basically bending over backwards for her. We kind of already got the benefits of her ruling Archon without the drawbacks and I have a feeling plot will take us farther than any sort of skill tree in terms of getting her back in Archon's political body.

>>26658516
>I agree that it can't hurt to ask, but come on...

Well, there is a question of mana cost, actually.

it won't do to give someone the power to ECLIPSE THE SUN if they don't have enough mana for it.

Sm has told us that Shadow casts magic differently than others - the humans need to cast/accumulate mana, and while powerful, we just whip it out of nowhere and have massive reserves.
>>
>>26658521
Something like that might be beyond Earth Gift but I kind of doubt Shadow will get such a non-combat ability.
>>
>>26658536
Abby has the greatest amount of reserves out of all our party members, though. Hence the original suggestion.
>>
>>26658529
>a feeling plot will take us farther than any sort of skill tree in terms of getting her back in Archon's political body.

Yeah, no.
We're on this quest for the wind staff entirely to give fang an unstoppable airship army, or have you forgotten WHY he wants it?
>to turn off the sky sever for his air fleet

If anything, we want to get MORE involved with archon, since fang's main ability is fucking everyone to get his way.
>>
>>26658516
>Implying SM hasn't fucked up with the wording/definition of spells and abilities numerous times before

Everyone made such a huge deal over these super spechul spells that only we could ever cast, having them be off limits to non elementals wouldn't be surprising.
>>
>>26658546
We might end up getting something that commands plants.

But what we have of the tree looks like our verson of earth magic is the rock and stone type.
>>
>>26658546
>Something like that might be beyond Earth Gift but I kind of doubt Shadow will get such a non-combat ability.

Depends on how regeneration works, but after our vision of John, I think its heavily implied that shadow has a green thumb.
>>
>>26658536
He also said that, having gone through the Archonium, Abby is basically Fang, just with less experience.

And Fang is listed as Godlike magical ability. And Servant and Chosen boost magic ability.

And Fang was easily able tos spam /something/ that was a Spirit equivalent of Void Ring while fighting Magnock. This suggests huge mana capability.

So I think she'd be fine.
>>
>>26656102
>>note: character sheet has a few updates, especially to party members section

I was just going over this, and Obis Vin's description reminded me that was got those 5 suits of Adamantine Plate Armor from the shiprakers.

Who's wearing them?
Did we ever examine them/find out where they came from/forge markers?

If nobody needs em, spread em around to our party and haven defenders
>>
>>26658563
Have you forgotten that it can only be used for defense and that it was meant as a gift for Abigail?

He's building this up for Abigail, he'll probably spin her aid in it's retrieval as a really big deal to sway the council after the archonium thing.
>>
>>26658599
Flint is already wearing one of the suits.
>>
We need to give one of our Chosen the shadow tree, for double 420blazin action.

840blaze it
>>
>>26658610
All the hubub over needing the staff for the air fleet will be null and void if we are able to destroy the core of the sky sever.

Though that might not be a terribly wise course of action, given that it could mean the Empire of Light and their Airship Craftsman's guild might be able to engineer airships that don't rely on dynamos, among other consequences (angels don't have to waste time touching down, etc)
>>
>>26658610

That depends on how much damage we've done to the political structure of archon, really.
Its hard to say, but it sounded serious enough that SM will have our decisions come back to bite us in the ass later unless we strive to change people's opinions.
Also, Airship Army is a little more believable if abby has skill at artifice

>>26658626
>We need to give one of our Chosen the shadow tree, for double 420blazin action.
Not strictly needed, all chosen have Nightflare access through Shadow Gift, which is.... good enough Antimagic.
>>
>>26658675
Void Ring's also on that tree.
>>
>>26658675
Fang said that most people didn't like the thing and that most of the council wanted her head anyway. He also said that it would go over better if we retrieve the staff to supplement that loss of power.
>>
Wait a minute.

Doesn't Abby or Adavan have those gargoyles?

Don't they swim through stone?
>>
>>26658626
As far as a hypothetical tree to give Abagail, I have to lean toward earth.

Her magic doesn't work like normal mages -or- ours, I recall it being described as just forcing raw power from the nether into the shape she wants through her element.

She gets shadow Affinity from just being a Servant of Shadow, meaning she might be able to experiment and work outwards into more spells.
Giving Earth Affinity through tree gift might mean giving her Three different elemental "Filters" that she could put her magic through. (Though i may be horribly misinterpreting things)
The most versatile mages in history had four very weak affinities.

Her natural Spirit gives her unparalleled capability summoning things, Shadow would give her at least the basics of ruinous attack magic, and earth would open up a number of utility and control options that would make it so she isn't permanently stuck in the role of a warrior.
>>
>>26658753
Shadow mages created the orcs and vampires. Who says a smart mage can't use Shadows for non-warrior things?
>>
>>26658659
>>26658610
>He's building this up for Abigail, he'll probably spin her aid in it's retrieval as a really big deal to sway the council after the archonium thing.

Actually.....
We should probably remind fang of this when we give him the staff, for a few reasons.

Give ABBY the staff, since the air fleet is for her, and remind fang it was his gift to her.

If he uses it to destroy the sky sever, we miss out on that xp.

however, the correct option is to Magical Hack the skysever to ignore certain targets.
We give it an IFF, and everyone wins.

>>26656232
>I'm hesitant to support Eclipse because it could fuck us and our allies over by removing all shadow resistance for that duration.
The real problem with Eclipse is it paints a giant fucking target on the heads of anyone who uses it.

The ONLY person who could do it is Erebus. There are people still alive who fought him.
Using it is a DEAD GIVE AWAY that EREBUS LIVES.
And EVERYONE will shit bricks and assume Old Dickhead Erebus is back to finish the job.

You know how the angels over-reacted and were going to sun-nuke their own city when the shadow mages went free?
We're talking that kind of over-reaction.
"Highest, someone blotted out the sun!"
"HIT IT WITH EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT RIGHT NOW"

If anything, give Eclipse to Adavan

> "Elementals aren't common by any stretch," he explains quietly, "but those of Shadow, Spirit, Earth, and Water varieties are most frequent. The other four - wind, fire, lightning, light - well, I've never heard of any incidents at all. A curiosity. Something to ask a mage, maybe."

>Using it is a DEAD GIVE AWAY that EREBUS LIVES.

That was kind of already given away with the whole burnout wave from the first time we ate a dynamo.
Pretty much every major character felt the wave of power, and Hyperion in particular probably recognized what was going on immediately. (Before you say anything, who else would it be sealed away behind a great portal talking to top angels)

>>26658853
It was stated that what we do with eclipse and what erebus could do is fundamentally different.

Eclipse is a spell. Erebus blotting out the sun was an act of will.
It's like if eclipse was a costless ability on our shadow aura tree.
>>
>>26658853
Since SM didn't explicitly state it, and hasn't made any statement regarding it AT ALL, it's more reasonable to assume that any shadow mage of high power is able to do it.

I've never seen it. They've done the void ring deal, but never an eclipse.

Abby - Earth
Adavan - Shadow
Ila - Water
>>

Dave probably could, Demon lords may or may not be able to, but can do things of similar magnitude.

It would probably take large group of powerful shadow mages to pull off an Eclipse, similar to there needing to be many angels to pull off a Sun Call.

I don't think so.

>>
>>26658880
>I'm fairly sure those were the experiments of the empire, and not related to shadow magic.
They were shadow magic. Read the history of vampiria in the pastebin for vamps.

For orcs, when we met the dude whos sword we ate, he was all butthurt and bitching about the shadows making them what they are. And in Tarun Gakth, Flint and Obis both warned us that the orcs might not be so friendly with us because of that history.
>>
>>26658901
>Rough ideas for Chosen gifts: for the three prospectives

That assumes were's chosening everyone.

I disagree with Chosening adavan - Hecate is going to want him back, if we ever free her.

We don't necessarily NEED to use all three chosen slots. Its not something to be taken undertaken lightly.

I just hope we unlock that eventual Light Magic tree that Sm spoiled at one point, if it's still a thing we can do.

Sure.
Eclipse - Forcibly assert the power of darkness to eclipse the sun itself. Negates shadow resistance of all other individuals in a miles-wide area and doubles shadow magic power for 2-5 turns. Costs half of current mana, or 20 mana, whichever is greater. Only useable once per day.

Abby is probably going to end up a chosen by the end of the story; Adavan is a bit tricky, because we can't be sure how loyal to us he would be if he knew what we are and the true history or shadow.

Ila would probably be the best for shadow magic, if she wants the gift, as the de-facto leader of the shadow mages.

>>26658931
I think you are confusing Eclipse with Erasure.
Erasure is the final emergency power, costing 10 EXP.
Eclipse is the (maybe) final of the shadow tree, costing half our total magic power or some value i forget, whichever is higher.
Eclipse does not cost EXP, though it is incredibly expensive to cast and can only be done once per day, as well as having a fairly short duration (2-5 rounds?)

>>26658958
>>26658999
The demon lord we fought cast two super-spells. One was the massive antimagic, the other was what was essentially a shotgun consisting of Void Rings.

Maybe that's what's after Eclipse.
>>
>>26659015
Then we don't have to use it when we're fighting the demons. I'm certain there'll be other moments when it'll be useful.
You know, the same reason as to why we wouldn't use water against vonnegut.
>>
>>26658901
Beginning with: If any of our Chosen have a preference for their Tree Gift, I say let them have it.

That said:
I think Abby could do fantastic things with Earth. Given the fluff about how she and Fang shape spells, this is the sort of tree where her methods could really shine.
I think Ila would be better off with Spirit.
I'd give Adavan Water - the teacher/healer thing is (was) his gig, and it boosts that.

Though personally I'm not sure if I'd make Ila/Adavan chosen. I don't actually feel like we've spent a terribly significant amount of time with either of them.

Chosen+Tree Gift is a long, long way of, though.

Airplane mode: 2 xp
XP burn - the only other once/day power

Eclipse: Covers a continent or giant swath of earth. Eliminates shadow resistance entirely across all of it. Massive boost to all shadow mages, and you know, darkness everywhere.

There's no way its not costing 5-15 xp to use.

I'm fairly sure it is a Metaphysical or Nether barrier.

The winds at worlds end are closer thematically to the sky sever; one theory on why they are there is that outside the world is pure Shadow/Order/Nothingness.
The sky sever was created when the Black Hand was flying in to kill the wind mages, and specifically targeted shadow element things. So it constantly interposes itself between this world (the elements) and the world outside (shadow/oblivion).

It's not the a perfectly sound theory, but it's interesting.

Nah, didn't SM warns us about this inside the dreamworld?
>>
>>26659595
I get the feeling that physical distance doesn't really matter with this. Either each 'node' is independently supplying power to the seal, or having multiple unstable shards in close proximity will start a shitstorm.
>>
Anyone else think we could run into one of our shards up in Xile? Erebus put all this into action before the sky-sever happened after all.
>>
>>26659614
Looks like it requires 70% of our power. Shit's cray.
>>
>>26659638
No, its tying up 30% of each node to maintain, leaving 70% free to fuck around with.
>>
>>26659614
Maybe it's holding back Erebus's main personality until all the shards are together. We're Justice, and whatever is behind the seal is the "shard" that was in control of all of the old Erebus's actions.

The big bad is ourselves.
>>
>>26659649
No, it's using 70. 100-70=30. So because of that, we know that things have to fall below 0 to go bad and so we have only 30% power to work with.
>>
>>26659651
I think Erebus is officially not coming back unless we royally fuck up somehow. I'd put Legion as the big bad since he's trying to carry on Erebus' will.
>>
>>26659674
>Current power division protocols cannot maintain 100% seal integrity if more than one power node falls below 30% capacity.
>Below 30%
>Somehow equals a minimum of 70%
Did you fail basic numeracy or something?
>>
>>26659703
No.

Look; You have 100 power. You need to use 70 power for the seal. That leaves 30 power left to use.

That's why falling under 30% means failure of the seal. Because less than 30 makes a zero or smaller, thus running out of fuel for the barrier.
>>
Here's an idea:

Why don't we ask Temerity and the others where they feel their excess power going to? Surely they can figure something out.
>>
>>26659733
seal required 30
your english no goodygood
>>
>>26659751
SM said we can't really talk to our shards like we could back in the Archonium. Maybe if we meditated really hard or something, I dunno.
>>
>>26659756
No, less than 30 makes it fail. So it has to be 70 used because that's the opposite of less than 30.

10 - 30 = 70.
>>
>>26659733
I see how you came to that conclusion, you just need to think on it more.
If it falls below 30%, it can't run. Meaning you need at least 30% to keep it up.

>>26659751
This is a good idea. For later. When we aren't trying to protect Haven and scout out an encampment at the same time.
>>
>>26659614
>Jesus fuck whatever this seal is locking away must be bad news.

The last SM said of this was "you REALLY don't want this to happen"
>>
>>26659776
>SM said we can't really talk to our shards like we could back in the Archonium. Maybe if we meditated really hard or something, I dunno.
>>26659751
>Why don't we ask Temerity and the others where they feel their excess power going to? Surely they can figure something out.

Should be able to do this in a mana pool, deepen our connection with the shards while we empower them
>>
>>26659777
That's not how it works. We have 70% to use. This is really simple logic, I think you're just reading the original statement wrong.
>>
>>26659777
no mate I am going to not take you seriously because you are incapable of grasping basic maths and basic english
You are small time.
Think on this long and hard:
>>26659703
I mean it.
Twist it around, you will come around and realize how silly you sound.
>>
>>26659777
I'll try to spell it out for you since it looks like you're just having a simple problem with how it's explained.

>Current power division protocols cannot maintain 100% seal integrity if more than one power node falls below 30% capacity.
If capacity < 30%, it fails.
Therefore, if capacity >29%, it doesn't fail.
We need at least 30% to keep the seal up.
Leaving 70% for our use.

None of this matters anyway because in the end we still wanna figure out where our power is going either way, because 30% is still a lot.
>>
>>26659789
Probably because it involves the Four Greater Elementals coming back without the lesser three free to oppose them.

And we don't have the power to seal them away anymore.
>>
>>26659777
Let me give you a hint.

Resonant shards are at 100% capacity. Broken shards are at 0% capacity.
>>
The barrier fails if we fall below 30% capacity.
The barrier fails if we lose 70% capacity.
The barrier is using 30% of our capacity.

The problem is a lot more complex than what we're treating it as, though. We have N shards (we don't know how many we're missing). If 2+ fall below 30%, the seal breaks. I've no idea what percentage of Erebus power is in each shard, whether it's equal across shards, etc.
>>
>>26659906
what if there is a shard that creates and spreads power to the other shards somehow?
>>
>>26659945
Temerity kind of already is that, sort of.
>>
>>26659945
What if indeed.
To many unknowns to really say anything at all about the seal.
>>
Power of shards are human souls.
Souls generate power, and we're using them to fuel our actions. More souls=more generated power. Wizard souls=more power.
THIS IS HOW CONSUME WORKS.
>>
>>26660024

Yes, but we also know that erebus is not at full power anyway.
>>
>>26660024
>Magic items give us xp too
OH JESUS MAGIC IS PEOPLE

ITS FULL METAL ALCHEMIST ALL OVER AGAIN
>>
>>26660024
It's not really "Souls" given that we get EXP from consuming artifacts and wierd magical stuff, as well as soulless things like demons.

Given what Temerity has said about it, it's more breaking down -all- of what is eaten back into raw energy.
>>
>>26660050
But we can be stronger than erebus.
We just need to consume a whole lot of people.
>>
SM please come back and save us from this reckless faggotry
>>
>>26660059
How horrifying.
>>26660061
I wasn't entirely serious when I wrote that.
Afterall, we got experience from human encounters before, and once from sparring with obis and flint iirc.
And yeah, temerity and all that jazz.

I'm of the opinion that the Human soul, if it even truly exists as we would define it, is fundamentally different from Chaos and Order. If a soul was just magic from the Nether or something then resurrecting people shouldn't be impossible and our own humanity wouldn't be capable of just burning Chaos out of existence and apparently Order too considering what it almost did to Temerity and us.

I would say it obviously came about from some sort of chaotic interaction but it seems to have become something different from the sum of it's parts.
>>
>>26660112
I was disappointed to find your pic wasn't Rorschach's monologue from the start of Watchmen.
>>
>>26660137
I was thinking that too.
>>
>>26660136
Resurrecting people is impossible because the soul dissolves in the nether when you die.

Which raises the question of what happens to the souls of people who die in nelmar, the place severed from the nether.
>>
Rolled 4

>>26660136
I'm pretty sure souls are Chaos since they originate from Chaos. Also Temerity stated he eats souls so the do exist.
>>
>>26660137
>>26660154
Man now that you mention it, it'd have been a much better choice. I am ashamed.
>>
>>26660187
Theres still time

Redeem yourself
>>
>>26660161
>>26660172
What I'm saying is that "soul" here may just be magical energy, not the way we define it as some sort of persistence of a person's consciousness into an afterlife, and that if something like that actually exists it's different considering how strangely our own Humanity behaves in relation to Chaos and Order
>>
