>I'm back!
>First thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/26467910/

You are a sentient weapon named Winter's Tooth by your first, and as of now, only partner. You feed on the blood of those you kill, gaining strength in death, as is only your due as a weapon. Over the last week and a bit, you've killed an evil charismatic warlord with good publicity, turned your partner into a fugitive, trained him in the art of spear-fighting, and became an impromptu spirit communication guide.

It's been two days since you last encountered the fire spirit (which Jameson has since named Cinnamon). Jameson's arm has been bandaged and treated, and it's almost recovered from the light burns it has had.

Jameson’s gone to town, as he’s been getting rather stir crazy in the forest with nothing much to do. He’s doing a rather good job so far of keeping a low profile. Obviously, he’s bringing you along, but you’re wrapped in cloth. You’ve managed to hijack Jameson’s senses, and he’s currently in an inn, chatting with the owner.
>>
“-you sure know your drink, kid. Nice to see who appreciates my stuff. Not like those exorcists who’ve come into town.”

“Yeah, my family owns a brewery. It’s not large, but people enjoy the beer. Anyway, you said something about an exorcist? Things have been getting pretty bad around here, haven’t they?”

“Yeah. What with the bandits plaguing the northern route, the infernalists who’ve popped up, the raids from the northeast, and the wolf-men coming from north, it’s not a very nice time to be a simple inn owner. I even heard the infernalists tried to burn down the old Sweetsprings forest. Thank god the mother church is at least looking out for us.”

Hm. These look like rather interesting conversation topics. Some investigation seems to be in order.

>Jameson, ask about the infernalists.

He nods, just a tiny bit. ‘Yeah, sure.’ Turning his attention back to the innkeeper, he leans forwards onto hi elbow, and inquires about the infernalists.

He barkeep shrugs. “I don’t know much about them That sort of stuff ain’t meant for ordinary people to know about.” His eyes flicker around furatively, and then he leans closer to Jameson.

“They say that the first one killed Lord Moore. An Infernalists assassin. He escaped with his hellbound weapon. After that, we started hearing more reports about the damn demon-bargainers will their hell green flames coming here.”

He leans back again, and slowly starts cleaning a glass. “We don’t talk about them, though. The church doesn’t approve of that sort of talk.”

Hm. That’s interesting. So Jameson’s an infernalist now. Or supposedly. You consier asking about the raiders, but decide it’d be best not to appear too curious.

>Jameson, buy another beer. Scan the room.

‘You mean I get to drink alcohol and relax? I like this plan. I like this plan a lot.’ Grabbing another mug of the alcoholic beverage, he walks to an empty table, and scans the room.

You can tell he’s not really registering the individuals, but looking through his eyes, you are. There’s a rather rowdy group in the corner, wear armor and weapons. Mercenaries or the town guard, most likely. You can’t tell. Three people in cloaks are huddled in a corner, discussing something. You catch a glimpse of something shiny on one of their cheeks before one of the hoods that they’re all wearing obscures it. A strange four are counting gold or something. Foreigners. A fighter, a rogue, a priest, and a wizard, it seems. And then scattered here and there are solitary figures, eating their dinners and merchants with guards standing by watching them.

Jameson takes another sip. You can’t understand why humans love this mind altering toxin so much.

The mercs and foreigners are interesting, but I don't really want to move on too far before we wrap up that thing in the forest with the spirits.

Right. That’s enough lazing about for now. You still have things you intend to accomplish. You direct Jameson to get up.

‘Actually could we stay here a bit longer?’ He pops his joints as he stands up. ‘I like this activity.’

>No. I have no desire to accommodate your taste of alcohol, and we have things to do.

With a sight, he ambles out the door, after tossing a couple of copper onto the innkeep’s counter. The sun makes him blink, as you walk outside. ‘So, where are we off to?’ You tell him, and you’re off.

First off, you and Jameson start purchasing the supplies that you two need. A whetstone, some oil, extra clothing for Jameson, camping gear, a lantern, and some armor (or at least a shield). Jameson runs errands rather speedily, hitting the blacksmith, general store, and tailor, and you two manage to grab all of your supplies in good time. That’s good news.

The bad news is that purchasing all of these items practically drained your momentary supplies. In other words, you’re broke, or very close to is.

“two…. three. Three copper, and one silver left over. Shit. The last pay didn’t go very far.” Jameson finishes counting your remaining coinage. ‘Where do we go next?’

>Well, we should probably earn some more money before we go exploring the town. Maybe check if anyone’s willing to pay for work?

It turns out not a lot of people are willing to pay for quick work. The town’s very well entrenched, and everyone in it knows everyone else in some way or fashion. It’s much easier to simply ask a old friend or family for help.

Jameson plays a couple of shell games with a con-man, winning a few rounds, losing a few rounds. He makes a tiny profit, before the con-man scowls at him and tells him to shove off.

Eventually, you two end in front of the wanted poster in front of the guard station. There’s a couple of posters there, including what looks like a poorly scrawled impression of Jameson, himself.

>You should probably tear that down.

‘Yeah, probably.’ He slides it into his pocket, and just as he does so, a guardsman walks by. He and Jameson stare at each other for a few seconds, before the guardsman’s eyes light up.

‘Shit.’ Jameson says. You agree with him

>Shit

Jameson turns on his head getting ready to run, and you prepare to be drawn for battle. Both of you are surprised, when the guardsman, instead of running for calling for help against a dangerous infernal fugitive, instead steps towards Jameson with a friendly expression. “Are you taking a bounty? That’s great!”

“…huh?” Jameson voices his confusion in the most eloquent manner possible.

“We’re a little bit short of guard members these days, and any help would be appreciated!” The guardsman is almost annoyingly cheerful. “Actually, we could use some more help in the guard.”

“….huh?” Jameson’s broken. It looks like you’re going to prod him into action.

>Don’t just stand there slack jawed like an idiot. Ask him for info on the bounties.

Jameson twitches, then jerks into action. “Um, so are there any bounties that have quick cash rewards? I need to make money fast.”

The guardsman natters away at him cheerfully. “Oh, well, if you’re looking for money, you might want to try some of the larger bounties. Those are usually groups of men, though, so you might have to split the bounty with whichever group you join up with.”

Jameson nods. With you by his side, he probably has nothing to fear from large groups. “So, where would I find these bounties?” Glancing sideways at the board, he makes an observation. “It looks like most of these are… bandits.”

“Well, if you stick with the merchant caravans, you’ll probably get attacked by some sooner or later. I actually heard that can be quite profitable, because the merchants also pay you for escorting them.” He shrugs. “But I’m just a guardsman, so I’m not so sure about that. Most of the caravans travel through the forest to Hellensburg to the east.”

Jameson nods. “Well, thanks for the info, mr….”

“Robert Rorickson.” He waves to Jameson, and heads off to continue his rounds, or whatever he was doing before.

Jameson turns back to the board. ‘Which one do you think I should pick?’

I think for a bit more spending money before we head into the forest we should go after

>Bad Johns, a murder/rapist who’s attacked and killed 3 so far (15 silver)

For his victims he needs to stick around a town. So he is probably the closest.

>Rickety Riks, a bandit leader in the forest (5 gold)

We can pursue at our leasure.
>>
>>26611767

>Bad Johns, a murder/rapist who’s attacked and killed 3 so far (15 silver)

Since Rodney is a horse thief, and thus is likely on a horse, we're probably best equipped to deal with him.

Also, we have a spirit of the forest and a spirit of fire on our side so the bandit leaders might be fun to take down.

>Bad Johns. This violation of justice cannot go unpunished.

Jameson tears off the poster for Bad Johns, reading it before sliding it into his sack.

>Bad Johns
>Cunning and sneaky, will run away if alerted
>Reward: 16 silver
>Suspected location: In a nearby hamlet, or hiding out in the sewers

Underneath all of this is a hastily scrawled line drawing of Bad Johns. He’s a shaggy looking guy, thin and wiry. His eyes are sunken in, and he has a hunted air around him.

It’s appropriate given you’re about to hunt him. As Jameson starts to turn around, he bumps shoulders with someone. He turns to apologizes and stops.

It’s one of the cloaked figures from the inn. He’s rather short and slender, now that you have a chance to observe him up close. He tears off three posters and turns around. Jameson calls out to him.

“Are you sure about that? I mean, maybe you should just take one at a time.”

The figures in the cloak stops. “It’s my duty to help the townspeople.” His voice is quite higher than you expected it to be. “Besides, I can handle myself.”

Jameson seems shocked for some reason. “Are you quite sure… miss? I could help.”

>Jameson, I though miss was a female dimunative.

He blinks, rather rapidly. ‘…but she is a girl.’

>…but he shows none of the sexual dimorphism that you humans possess. Although his shoulders are small, his hips are also not noticeably larger, and his chest is flat.

‘….okay, not all-‘ Your mental conversation is interrupted by the cloaked stranger.

“Do you mind not staring at me? I already told you, I don’t need any help.” He seems upset. With a huff, he stalks away.

Jameson seems to want to go after her.

You almost stop Jameson, but you decide to let him go chase after the guy. You sort of trust his judgment after all that you’ve been through together, even if his gender recognition is shot to scrap metal.

He’s out of breath by the time he catches up. “Hey, wait!” The cloaked boy turns. “You can’t just be taking that many because you can handle them all! Otherwise you’d take them on after another.”

“What if I just don’t want to waste time?” The boy just keeps on walking. “I mean, I can’t be coming back every time to just to get a new contract.”

“…an reason for everything huh? Now I understand what people felt like talking to me when I was little.” Jameson chuckles a bit. “Just hear me out, alright? I think I know why you took all of those.”

The boy stops, and turns around. “Well?”

“When bounty hunters take posters, it shows they’re taking the contract, but also that they’re going at the reward, and that no one else should get in their way.” Jameson pauses to take in a breath of air. “You took all of the highest pay contracts. You were scared that someone was going to take them before you.”

“One hundred and fifty gold. What do you need that much money for.”

The boy seems surprised at Jameson’s explanation. Either Jameson was really astute, or it was so stupid, he didn’t even see it coming. “Ah… I- my groups’ in a lot of debt. We’re just some nuns from down south, you see, and we didn’t really know how things worked up here so close to The Wall… and one thin led to another.”

“Nuns from the south… determining distance by The Wall… who are you?”

[1/2]
>>
The boy stops to curtsey. “We are nuns in the service of the Lone God, the Solitary God, the Unconquered Watchman, who stood at the last bulwark of order.”

Jameson’s eyes widen, in some sort of realization. “You’re…”

“We’re exorcists, sent out to hunt down the spear wielding infernalists. My name is Charity.”

You go over what she just said, and then you come to a startling conclusion.

>Wait a minute…. she’s a girl!
