Quest 16 and 19 under 'Space Waifu Quest'

Current Mission Time: +00:02:21:54

You are Delta Phoenix. You were once a ghost operative of the Terran Dominion, but you acquired your freedom and went rogue in the fringes of the Koprulu sector.

You've been able to band together a small fleet and army from the rebels and refugees that lived here. Now the fringes burn. A Broodmother has unified the feral Zerg broods and crushes all resistance for some darker purpose.

You are attempting to rescue your protoss friend and mentor, Kassix, from the planet New Ares. While marines and tanks pound the zerg on the ground, you hunt a more insidious threat on your flagship, the Daluke.
>>
Let's get the doorknob chewing out of the way early.

I vote we ask Saul and our Zerg Advisor if they'd like to volunteer for iNfestation to awaken their latent psychic powers.

>"No. Split up our ghost detail and hunt changelings. We need to secure the Daluke more than anything."
>"Aye, sir."

You walk the halls of your ship, weapon in hand. You scan the minds of your crew in futility, hoping it will give you some insight.

>"Everyone on Murric... dead, just like that."
>"Not sure what we're doing. No way we can take on the entire swarm."
>"Damn fuel lines in bay 4 are on the fritz again. That shit's going to kill our combat repair times if I can't get the crew chief to requisition some minerals to repair it."
>"Wonder how Mescal's holding up. Hope my parents are okay..."
>"But you can't target switch fast enough between confirmed hits because of the rotors. Augh, no wonder the Dominion doesn't use Goliaths any more."
>"Total slut. She thinks he doesn't know, but I'm going to tell him. I'm going to walk and tell him "Kyle, about your wife and her amount of consumed penises."

Although you're concerned about the mental health of your crew, nothing stands out as Changeling material. You sit in the Mess Hall. Charlie sits next to you.

>"How many you bagged so far, Dee?"
>"None. You?"
>"I thought I had one, but turns out Henderson just... legitimately -can't- dance for shit. He tried though."
>"Any ideas?"
>"Of course. I'd be a useless ghost if I couldn't outperform an enemy intelligence agent."

Loading relevant files, Changeling:

The changeling, composed of a protoplasmic substance, is capable of shape-shifting into a form resembling a terran. It can shift between specific appearances. It can even send out psionic impressions leading terrans to believe that everything is "all right".

It is intelligent, capable of operating computers. It possesses more strength than an unarmored human and can transform part of its body into a deadly bone blade, although its primary purpose does not appear to be combat.

Indeed, Commander. It's only 0.9c. FTL speeds are impossible without warp drives.

The actual limiting factors are the zerg swarm in orbit over Jestos, the fact that there are more hives in the sector and you would need to guarantee the queen's death. It will no doubt be useful in any assaults on heavy Zerg hive planets, however.

Let me see if I understand you correctly, commander.

You wish to issue stim packs to over 5 thousand crew members, causing untold medical problems, addiction, damaging crew morale, impairing combat effectiveness across the field and completely destroying your reserve of supplies that you cannot replenish, on the off chance that it can possibly harm or kill less than 12 alien life forms that are posing as your crew.

I can't let you do that, Commander.
>>
>>26538029
Even if you did you would not know if they are changelings.

Blood testing will be underway shortly on mission critical personnel. This will take at least 30 minutes before results can be verified.

I suggest a more pro-active approach, Commander.

Lets ask the doc

If discussion does not properly develop and you do not take a course of action it will impair your combat effectiveness drastically.

Ghosts will be deployed to the following targets. You are merely selecting where you go, personally.

The ship is at combat stations in hostile territory, commander. Ground forces are already engaged.

A lockdown is not a viable option. It would do more damage than the changelings themselves, as they would be aware of the change in crew deployments and signal the swarm that we are defenseless.

>"XO let me know when Protoss Command is aboard their carrier. I imagine that Judicator is going to want a word with me."
>"Aye, sir."

You close your eyes and bring a hand to your temple. When you open them you're on the streets of Kilaro. You clutch your teddy bear tightly in your arms. The guns keep shooting. They're really big. You hate the noise - it scares you - but they keep saying it keeps you safe. Funny cars with guns on top spit fire on the bad people. You don't know what happened to the bad people. They keep crying. You feel sad for them sometimes, but then sometimes you remember that they ate people.

You don't feel sorry for them any more.

Two army men walk past. Mommy keeps pulling you forward. You heard there's help here. By the tent with the red cross. They're dumb, though, 'cause that's a plus sign.

>"What's the situation down main street?"
>"Air support's fucked, Sergeant. They can't take out the overpass."
>"Shit, we're looking at 17 million infected coming down that boulevard. How many hellfire rounds do we have left?"
>"Less than 100, sir. We're calling in for more..."

Mommy picks you up. You're tired of walking. You've been running all day.

>"Are you sure? There's no where else?"
>"Radio silence from the other camps. I don't think so, Ma'am. We were waiting on evac, but-"
>"But - but what? Someone is coming for us, right?"

The man looks sad. He's old. Gray hair. He's really tired you think. He just shrugs at mommy.

Mommy starts to cry. She sits on the curb. She starts to sing to you. You feel better. It's harder to hear the bad men scream but you still smell the burning. You start to hear men yelling closer and closer

>"...-over-run, sir. We have to pull back."
>"Pull back where, Alenko!? West front's dead! East is the remains of Killaman stadium! Two million 'refugees' in there looking to tear us apart! South was Jakibs, but it got over-run by the Pallbird district horde. North is nothing but wrecked siege tanks and broken defenses."

You're too scared to do anything. You clutch to your mother tightly. She'll save you... she has to.. She's running but they keep coming. Hands start to grab at you, pull you away, you scream and-

>"Commander?"
>"Yes. I'm here. Yes, XO?"
>"The Judicator is hailing us, I'm putting her up on main screen."

The communication ends. Kassix stands beside you on your bridge.

>"She is right to fear you, Raging Phoenix. But she is wrong to deny you the right to defend your own worlds. The letter of Dae'Uhl is not the same as it's spirit. Come"

You follow him down the various halls, before you reach the Xel'Naga artifact. As easily as you move, Kassix opens the black obelisk. It floats into thousands of smaller shards, covered in blue and purple runes that undulate with untold power.

>"Open your mind, Raging Phoenix. Accept knowledge in it's truest form. And know it's burden."

You step up to the artifact and attempt to reach out to it with your mind.

Your world is suddenly filled with action, simplicity. There is no light but there is sound. It fills you in great, sluggish waves. Not heard, but felt, through your countless cells. The cells pulse, separrate, contract according to the rush of blood. This is the basis of your being. The flow in your blood.
You feel your heart beat increase. Your breathing is shallower, rapider. Your muscles tighten as the rage flows over you in great bouts of emotion. You are not in control. The rage is.

You may be in the clear for now but more and more zerg forces and coming by the hour. Your defenses won't hold against this endless wave of zerg. This won't be the last of them I assure you command. I'm about to make you decide this almost impossible choice.

Give me your fleet to destroy the central hive mind in this sector.

Without the hive mind the zerg forces would scatter around in disarray, your forces on the ground can mop up the rest of them with almost no resistance. This new wave is coming soon command, the sooner we go out and destroy the queen the sooner we can end this slaughter. This decision will be tough if not almost impossible to give but command I am giving you the option to trust me on this.

We must mop up the majority of the zerg forces in this region, bolster defenses and come with me to strike down the queen with the righteous fist of humanity. If not the death of millions would be all for naught. We even have the aid of the protoss in this battle.

We need speed, since the Broodmother can still escape on an Overlord if she knows we're coming to get her

((Someone find me some FINAL STAGE MUSIC))

Also instead of having the leviathan dive into the planet as the broodmother might survive that lets have it warp into the system's star.

>"Ejector's jammed! I'm fucked! God DAMNIT!"
>"NACS Shiv is going into a spin - they're not responding. I think the bridge is out."
>"Prismatic core failing. We require assisstance."
>"Last November to Daluke. We have taken critical damage to all systems. Preparing jump drives for ramming speed."

In a flash the ship jumps through the Leviathan to destinations unknown. It's grievously wounded. Now is your chance. You reach out to the creature's mind, and-

You're floating through space. You can feel the solar wind on your skin. You can hear the cosmic song of a thousand stars. You feel the thousands of Zerg inside you, clawing and crawling, waiting for their moment to be. Their moment to live their lives. You sense another presence. It isn't mother. It's a pretender. It's the one who hurt you, and it wants you to... kill your mother.

It's mind is strong. You try to resist. You don't want to listen. You can't resist. Fine! You'll kill yourself! But not mother! Never mother!

>"Sir, the damn thing just... it just ran a tentacle through it's own head. It's caught in the planet's gravity well. I think we might've just pulled-"

A large explosion rocks the ship. Several sirens sound.

>"Mia to Daluke, you've lost a wing! Repeat, starboard fin is detached and in freefall!"
>"So much for nuking it from orbit to be sure, 'ey XO? Let's get to the transports."
>"No."
>"... Sorry?"
>"We have to be sure. The rail cannon is still online. I can fire it from the bridge. Get everyone else out of here, Delta."
>"XO, are you crazy, we can still-"
>"42 seconds until we hit atmosphere, Commander. I suggest you use it wisely."

The man picks up the phone and speaks directly into the intercom.

>"All hands, the Daluke is in a decaying orbit to the planet's surface. Make for the nearest escape pod or transport. I will keep her afloat."

You make for the nearest docking bay, and board the new Hercules. The bridge to this one is similar, but you know it's not the same.

>"Ensign, status report."
>"We're free, sir, waiting to fill up. We've got a banshee on board. I've sent notifications to your squad leaders to try and regroup planetside, outside of range of the Rail gun."

Henderson, your ghosts, the remnants of Helldog squad, Barney and Jessie, and your Chef manage to make it onboard the transport with the other marines. The drop towards the surface begins, with occasional fire from mutalisks or scourge collisions rocking the ship. It isn't until your ensign speaks that you're concerned.

>"We've lost engines. Brace for impact."

The Hercules hits a dune and goes flying. You hold on for everything you're worth. It hits another dune and starts to roll.

You regain consciousness on the ship's... ceiling.

>"Mornin', sir. Nice weather outside. Sunny, with raging sandstorms and zerg."
>"Thank you, Lieutenant Daluke, but if you could tell me who's alive."
>"We've got the locals and a few extra marines. Pilots are both dead - but I picked up a distress beacon. Mia went down about four miles northwest of our position. She's inbound if we can hold here."

You hear the boisterous cries of Henderson outside. He yips and hollers as he fires off rounds.

>"We should take him on more vacations. He always seems to enjoy himself."

You head outside of the ship. Some of the wreckage has been propped up for cover. Your marines hunker down behind it.

>"Hey Boss. We've been havin' us a shoot-out with these here mutalisks. Only minor casualties."
>"How many is minor?"
>"11."
>"Dead?"
>"Alive, Boss."

>"Now, mechanized divisions are east of our position, and infantry is southwest. We're waitin' on the big boom from Sall an' then we're gonna move in to verify that kill. Right now we've got two possible engagements for each division."

Infantry (Marines, Marauders, Medics, Firebats)

Mech (Siege tanks, hellbats, hellions, goliaths.)

Infantry should engage the Zergling/Baneling/Mutalisk force.

Mechanized division should engage the Roach/Hydra/Broodlord force.
>>
>>26540349
I love these types of decisions. Much easier.

Infantry should fight the Ling force.

Mech should go after ...well shit, both of those are really bad. Long as it's not too many Ultras, then the Lisk/Viper/Ling force. Broodlords would rape them without proper anti air.
Plus, Hydras can kite
>>

>"Alright, Boss. Now we just gotta rendezvous with Mia at the crashed Banshee and we'll be travellin' in style. Saddle up, ladies! We're moving out!"

You trudge through the desert, the sand is far too fine and gives way easily, making your march difficult. Strong gusts compound the problem as dust flies at you from every direction simultaneously.

Mutalisks streak over the horizon, seemingly out of nowhere, towards your location.

You still have your specialty ammunition, as well as your psionic powers.

You project several copies of your squad as the mutalisks approach. Despite your illusion and the nature of mutalisk glaive wurms, your squad still takes a significant beating.

>"Get to cover!"
>"What cover!?"

Bossman is picked up by a mutalisk, hauled into the sky, then dropped several stories to his death. Rio takes several simultaneous glaive wurms to the chest. Despite these losses you manage to force them to retreat. But they'll be back as soon as they're healed.

>"Keep moving! We're almost to the site!"

You arrive to find Mia already working on the damaged Banshee.

>"Sir. This all we have left?"
>"Two other divisions are engaged with the Zerg, actually."
>"Alright. Few more seconds and I'll have us airborne. Just need to get the sand out these rotors."

Moments later you watch the Banshee's propellers begin to swirl before you make out a voice in the static of your radio.

>"Delta, this is Daluke Actual, do you read?"
>"This is Delta. Go ahead, Sall."
>"Mechanized support is gone. Vipers hauled the tanks into the ultralisks and that was the end of it."
>"And infantry support?"
>"One squad's left. Says they found something in the sand. If the Baneling explosions I detected on sensors are any indication they won't last long."

>"Everyone on the Banshee! We're moving!"

You sail over the endless dunes. The planet has no other features. No rocks. No mountains. No planets. Just dunes and dunes of sand. Eventually you reach the Coordinates, but you don't see infantry. You see a templar, several stalkers, and a sentry. You can sense Kassix as you come in to land.

>"Phoenix. Your artifact was lost by those entrusted to it. You are very fortunate we sensed it before the queen did. If she were to use this..."
>"It does not matter. We are moving to finish the job. She still lives."
>"Wait, we've got our ship in orbit still, any second now he's going to launch a-"

You can't hear yourself think over the roar.

The mushroom cloud in the distance gives you all the confirmation you needed. As you see it you see a streak of light in the sky. No doubt the Daluke burning up in the atmosphere of this planet.

>"It seems that humanity has perfected the art of throwing rocks."
>"Well, time to go see if our thrown rock squished that bug."
>"Wait, Phoenix. The tide rises."

You wait a few moments, not sure what the metaphor means, before you sense them.

>"Defensive positions!"

Your squad takes aim and waits. Countless Zerglings. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, converge on your location. Hydralisks follow close behind.

>"She has sensed the artifact. We shall stand against the darkness."
>"Get to the Chopper! Load it up!"
>"Yuuuh, I got it boss..."

The Judicator floats from the ground. Sand rises as well, suspended in the field of psionic energy. Arcs of raw power begin to encircle her, before she unleashes the storm. Zerglings are lifted from their feet and shredded into a fine mist by the power of her mind. Kassix jumps from target to target, taking no more than one swing per zergling. Your team fires wildly into the mass. There's no strategy here. Just numbers against power.

And the Protoss have power.

>"There are too many. I cannot maintain!"
>"We have one option remaining. Terrans, keep firing!"
>"You... cannot be serious, Kassix."
>"Our lives are forfeit regardless. I would spend the rest of it as one."

The Judicator kneels her head down into Kassix's hand. It might've been a touching moment if not for Henderson's interruption.

>"F'ya'll don't mind we're dealin' with a rather serious-"

The cigar in his mouth drops to the ground. Several more Hydralisk spines pierce his chest. He grabs at one in disbelief.

>"Well I'll be..."

He falls to his knees, then to his chest.

>"Jacob! JAAAACOB!"

Mia abandons her banshee. You hear the screech of mutalisks coming. The two templars form a single entity. The power blows the winds in every direction. The sheer force holds back Zerglings and Hydralisks, before the being emerges.

>"Power... OVERWHELMING!"

Streaks of raw psionic energy stream into the mass. The cries of the Zerg are all the motivation you need. You grab Mia by the arm and drag her away from Henderson, who's already dead. You know she's in no condition to fly and take the seat yourself.

>"Goddamnit, why, fuckin'-... why him."

You circle around as you head for the queen's location. You can still sense her. Although the Leviathan and the bulk of it's forces lie dead, she still lives. The archon below continues it's pointless crusade. The numbers do not end against it's unstoppable power.

>"Mutalisks inbound! Full speed, Dee!"

You feel the shocks as the wurms hit the rear of the banshee. Fuel starts to leak from one of the ruptures. Black smoke trails behind you. Eventually the fire catches and the explosion rockets you from the windshield.

You free-fall. Without even thinking you raise your arms instinctively and a psionic field forms. It breaks your fall, but the Banshee isn't so lucky. It collides with the sand at the full force of a crashing aircraft. You double back.

You can already tell Mia's dead. Jessie's had both legs broken. Whiskey's in pieces, he went through a propeller.

Charlie limps from the wreckage, Patriot squad follows suit. Barney appears from under a sand dune after a few moments and solemnly approaches the wreckage as well.

Jessie signals you over, clearly in pain.

>"Boss, Listen... I ain't goin' nowhere. An'... I don't exactly want the Zerg to catch up with me, if you catch what I'm saying."

Barney clanks along at the front of your group, slow but deliberate. You vaguely recall your dreams and, at this point, are beyond nervous.

>"Sergeant Mills, maybe you should stay at the... rear of the group."
>"No! Jessie always told me, stay at the front, Barney. You protect all your friends. You stay at the front, you keep them alive."

You hear his voice crack, he looks back to you.

>"I not have many friends left. I stay here."

Lot of good it did us.
Lot of good all our resources, all our warships, all our everything did us.

We entered orbit and immediately were crushed.
The only reason we still stand a chance is because of our men and all their sacrifices...

and...and we're running out of men to sacrifice.

And here's our nightmare

One lets go the wheel, while the other one steers.
One sold something that he never could replace.

One hits the bottle till his problems go away.
One found religion and the other lost faith.
Some held around while the others couldn't stay.
One started flames that he couldn't keep at bay.
One guards the door to their salvation.
One stays aboard his little rock of Gray.

That's when you hear them, overhead. Screams of Corruptors, and the whining of wraith engines. Your team ducks behind a dune as you hear the distant pop of missiles making contact and the painful cries of one of the beasts. One of them falls before you, it's acid spews across the sandy desert. You're fortunate, however. It reveals a hole.

The queen's already burrowed into the ground.

>"Drop down. We pursue her underground."

You enter the tunnel, cool and dark. Your visor switches vision modes and you move forward, where your senses guide you. That's when the queen begins to reach out to you.

>"Your time is running out. This place is a womb, where we grow our future. Your weapons fail, your ammunition runs low, your allies die by the hundreds. All you have is your hatred, and your... individuality. It's not too late, Dead one. You can still give in. Join the swarm. You'll never be alone again."

You block it out, as you continue down the tunnel. You enter a large room. Zerg eggs line the walls.

She's not here, but she's nearby, somewhere.

A spine flies out of the wall. White takes it like a champion. He struggles to stay standing for a few moments with the protrusion from his chest, but eventually falls flat on his back.

>"Barney, start roasting the eggs, lure her out!"

The room is bathed in the beautiful glow of perdition. You hear her scream.

>"Coward! Murderer! You fight a losing war out of spite! Not even losing, lost!"

She emerges from one of the tunnels at a full sprint. You unlock your psi-blade. It goes straight into her throat.

She slumps down, the life slowly fades from her eyes. Her claws grasp feebly at your arms.

>"This... means nothing... The darkness... still.. writhes..."

You pull the psi-blade free. The last legacy Mac left to you. You wonder, briefly, if he's still alive.

>"Is... is it over, Dee?"

>"Yeah... Yeah, Charlie. I think... I think it's finally over."

It's really ashame she didn't die back on that mission.

Maybe then...all of this shit could have just been avoided. Someone who was an actual leader would have taken charge and held off Broodmother before she ever had a chance to get a foothold.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what happens to the hivemind/millions of zergs, now that the Broodmother had a sudden case of death? Also, even if we make it off-planet (by chance) and somehow away to a different planet (is there even a ship left?), we will probably be hunted down by Protoss to answer for our "crimes".

Like Adjutant said, there will be no happy ending.
>>
>>26541260
You know, I just had an idea from your post.

We can emulate a hive mind can't we? And since "Mother" is dead, couldn't we....ya know...Make the zerg fly into the sun / jump down a chasm if there is one on the planet.

Adjutant, your story teller, has actually been dead for a while. She was aboard the Daluke when it burned in atmosphere.

The survivors torched the eggs, whatever they might've been, and returned to the crashed Hercules. They were stranded for a few days, but Blue managed to repair the ship to working order.

The Tal'darim fleet moved in to clean up the feral Zerg. Verdant worlds were reduced to glass and dust. Eventually New Albuqerque's remaining fleet led by none other than captain James Raven engaged them and found itself, surprisingly, victorious.

The Dominion abandoned the region of the fringes. Internal politics following the death of Mengsk don't allow for expansion, be it because of new policies or civil war.

There are still rumors of Dark Templar on remote jungle worlds, who are said to greet each other with 'En Taro Phoenix.'

There are several monuments, on Murric, New Albuquerque, Kilaro, and eventually the reclaimed Jestos, praising the hero Delta Phoenix and the long list of the crew of the Daluke, who sacrificed everything to end the Zerg threat.

Brutus "The Butcher" eventually settled down and married. He has 3 children and runs a butcher shop of Murric.

Years later, new Albuquerque was embroiled in a bitter civil war. El Presidente eventually lost, foiled by a mysterious gunman that is whispered of in rumors only as 'Enrique'.

But of Delta, and Charlie, and Barney, and Red, and Blue?

Well there's this little restaurant on Umoja. Open air. Nice wine. The owner's a little strange, though.

Carries a knife, an ascot, an ultralisk tooth, and a cigar everywhere she goes.

Unfortunately I can't continue this quest. I simply don't have the time that I did when I started it, and I'm going to have less as time goes on.

At some point in the distant future I may consider another quest, but I'll have to 'tone it down' a bit for /tg/ I fear. A lot of concepts were too difficult to execute/understand over this medium.

Rigged card game with Brutus at Nohallan, for ownership of super badass viking mercenaries based on top gun but with Norwegian accents.

Quanha steals Enrique's kid and you track her down, but he's living a better life and Enrique wants to let it happen.

Captain James Raven stealing nuclear weapons at Promeshi.

Evil scientist and redhead 'seductress' ghost at Promeshi. She would offer you 'evil' training on superghosts.

Mental battle with broodmother, ultimately dominating her and taking control of her swarm, which would've triggered your programming as a dominion operative all along.

Technically DP is still a sleeper agent.

But yeah, other than that, I already expected the players to be stupid. I also expected more starcraft knowledge. Sorely disappointed in that regard let me tell you. I have no idea what happened with Henderson. I expected /tg/ to kill him because quest characters I've run previously tend to be more chaotic evil.

He was a generic sarge who got some good rolls and ended up being fun.

Most favorite moment was probably the vignettes during the battle with Phoenix team's fleet over Murric.

My least favorite 'thing' about the quest isn't a moment. I feel like I could've gone into a lot more detail and done a lot more things in some areas, but I just didn't have time.

I feel bad about Alpha...but... I dunno, he did try to kill us.

The broodmother thing is not...really our fault, I feel. We were both tied up in politics and arguing among ourselves for consensus.

Honestly because I can say her micro was just like 'whatever' we'll say the broodmother was high masters.

Also the map had like 80 bases and no supply cap.

The dynamics for the quest being invaded by a genre-savvy zerg are unfair, I'm not going to lie.

I originally considered the protoss being the same deal, but that would've gotten out of hand and they would've been able to contain her too well.

Like, hidden meaning and shit.

God reminds me of that fucking Mental fight with the Protoss where we EMPed a Roach
*shudder*
>>
>>26541583
Yep. Always do.

You guys have a few recycled characters. Most of which you killed.
>>
>>26541592
>FTL
Oh my fucking god please my anus can't take it...
>>
>>26541592
> I might do one based on the federation from FTL.

That sounds intere-
>You guys like games you can't win, right?
scratch that
>>
>>26541592
>FTL

Fucking space-pirates with missiles and burst lasers.
>>
>>26541592
>You guys like games you can't win, right?
Just like this one...?

But nah, the difficulty aspect of this Quest was one of the main reasons I stuck around. You become too powerful and sometimes near infallible in other Quests, doesn't do anything for me.

BSG quest..?
>>
>>26541591
You would've been your own chief engineer and thrown me a goddamn curveball.

Also no one abused Mac.

No Dakkarauders.
No Maurader-Hellions
No cloaked goliaths.

All would've been possible if I ever had like 2-3 people go "HEY YEAH ADJUTANT DO THAT."
>>
>>26541601
>>26541592
FTL? Hm...

You know that game really has potential to cause intense rage in numerous poor anons.

Would that mean the starting laser is still the best weapon?
>>
>>26541619
>Not playing the Kestral with 4 weak lasers.
>2156
>>
Rolled 3

>>26541617
I think the reason why is because we were short of equipment and minerals to think of doing something like that
>>
>>26541617
>Cloaked gloiaths
Oh damn.
How about space capable banshees eh?
>>
>>26541592
yeah, One thing that could have saved a lot of hassle would have been showing us the rolls, that was what most people were upset about, they want something to blame for their bad luck and if they can't blame the dice they blame the DM.
>>
>>26541626
a colleague of mine plays by teleporting his entire crew over and hoping he can kill the enemy crew before they blow his ship up or jump out

it is scarily effective
>>
>>26541630
Probably. But there were a lot of bases available. I balanced the economy expecting you to have multiple bases but I see that was a mistake.
>>
>>26541617
Unfortunately, at that exact time we were trying to go AWAY from micromanaging.

It was a shame...it made us miss out on some stuff, despite it speeding up threads by 500%

Also about the' bad endings only' thing.

I'd like to say that, while the difficulty probably did get me to stay with the quest, I don't really like the idea of 'only ending badly'.

I mean, I get it from a writer prospective, but at the same time, we're all here to have fun, right? I don't think 50 threads of brutal ass rape ended with a simple "And then you finally died" is very fun..
>>
>>26541632
No never ever.

Banshess can't fly in space.

Don't listen to space maps with banshees they are wrong blizzard has already said so.

>>26541633
I don't like showing rolls because like, I roll then I write, right? And you already know you rolled a 100 or a 1. So everything I write is just masturbation. No sense of suspense.

It's a weird /tg/ specific thing. I don't have players go "no you're lying" when I DM actual games, but I figure that's because I can smack them.
>>
>>26541637
Heh, as I said, I didn't understand that it was a "You should build more bases" type of game....

Honestly, it should've been in the tag line "Bases R gud" even though I know you started it on a whim.
>>
>>26541635
Super high risk/reward, I can see how it works.
>>
>>26541653
And as we all know, Mutalisks fart through space.
>>
>>26541638
At that point I didn't really see any way out, but I wanted to surprise everyone in the event of, well, this, I guess.

Review actual bad ending for what I meant, kinda. Yeah it's bad, but you end up saving charlie and the ruins of the sector, so it wasn't all for nothing. You were a shitty hero, but you still tried to be a hero when I always gave you the easy way out, goddamnit.
>>
>>26541653
I don't mind the not showing rolls thing honest. In fact, it makes me hopeful that you'll be lenient with us when it matters most...or at least for small shit that shouldn't even be possible to fail.

That's part of why we started failing so hard, it feels like. Merciless, cold dice gods.
>>
>>26541658
it is utterly hilarious watching him cry about his poor crew after he jumped into a meteor shower, and as he is about to tele back to his ship, a meteorite takes out his teleporter
>>
>>26541674
Glad to know you do love us a little Adjy
>Engage emotion circuits
>>
>>26541657
Nah and I didn't make it apparent because I expected it to go that way with people going "WE NEED MOAR BASE ON MURRIC! MOAR LAND! BUY LAND NAO ADJUPHANT!"

And then you... just stopped.

And I was like "uh." because I expected you guys to play like some bronze kid going 3 cc before rax so I balanced minerals to be all crappy.

>>26541676
Yeah I always got nervous in long losing streaks because I'd be like "oooh boy, here we go, I wish I was this good at railroading."
>>
>>26541674
>you still tried to be a hero when I always gave you the easy way out, goddamnit.
What do you mean by that...?

We're we meant to slowly devolve into evil and madness due to the Terrazine?
>>
>>26541674
Heh, a mediocre hero, I guess. But no one else was looking to be a hero, so it's better then nothing.

I guess...that's sorta was 'real life' heroes are like. They don't blow the enemy away, but they did SOMETHING while everyone else sat on their ass.
>>
>>26541683
One of the possible endings was it being revealed you're a double agent, you rebel and become a triple agent and kill the swarm, and Adjy tries to kill you because her programming was to make sure you followed your mission.

Go through and re-read the suggestions and you'll see how well orchestrated the whole thing was, Muahahah!
>>
>>26541686
>And then you... just stopped.
I think we stopped because we remembered we were a ghost and not a commander, and went to do ghost shit

and then promptly forgot everything
>>
>>26541686
Well...I guess one anon should've been taking care of Econ, but...well, honestly I blame politics. The whole Communist thing really just turned to utter shit, on almost ALL of our trips there, and we got distracted.

Whiskey yelling "DUMB BITCH YOU FORGOT YOU NEED RESOURCES TO MAKE THOSE SCHEMATICS YOU WANT SO MUCH"

I really do feel dumb, though...
>>
>>26541687
Basically, yeah. or become some kind of jerkass pirate or something. The 'evil' option (give into rage, steal from the civilians, etc.) always had more rewards because you never chose it.

It would've been the other way around if it was the other way. Being a jerkass pirate and choosing to save civilians? Good luck with that.
>>
>>26541700
....but...can Adjy even get out of the Daluke?
Also, damn it we were a level 10 Psionic with Protoss friends! How did no one catch onto that?!
>>
>>26541707
You're only 1/7th as dumb as DP, don't worry.
>>
>>26541700
>Adjy tries to kill us.

At least she burned with the Daluke.

Did Sall do anything to our crazy adjutant while the ship was burning in the atmosphere?
>>
>>26541712
...so...back when we met the SUPER Zerg...if we hadn't given into the rage...?
>>
>>26541719
You bought her a terminator body without realizing. Why else would it be for sale in a black market that doesn't even make sense.
>>
>>26541727
I like to imagine Sall got totally shitfaced and launched a few orbital strikes at the wrong side of the planet on accident, and that's why it took so long.

In reality it probably just has something to do with TRAJECTORY!
>>
>>26541729
Speaking of terminator bodies and shit...

I just realized, we never even got to test out the fucking decked out Daluke!

We just warped into orbit and got blown up!

God, fucking rolls sometimes, man...we had shields and everything.
>>
>>26541728
Kassix be dead and you probably would've fought them every step of the way in the invasion.
>>
>>26541734
Adjutant had to make more CALIBRATIONS
>>
>>26541738
Totally worth it then.

Should have raged more.

...what would have happened if we raged when we gained super Psionics from that crystal?
>>
>>26541735
The upgrades were mostly for the rail gun because you guys never stole the free nuke pile at Promeshi.

Even with people going 'hey we need nukes.'
>>
>>26541734
Sall dying was crushing.

I felt that he was one of the few people who really understood everything we'd gone through - especially when we lost our suit briefly.
>>
>>26541748
You would've had a 50% chance to lose your shit and go murdermachine on every single roll.

Wouldn't have happened unless you guys really didn't give a shit about the whole 'hey so fight for your life or whatever' thing.
>>
>>26541704
>and then promptly forgot everything

This is /tg/ we have the attention span a of a goldfish.

And about the previous thread where I accused you of that speech about the door and bomb, i'm sorry, I guess I was infuriated about the wood league tactics and the bad rolls that we never saw, I came back and follwed the thread as anon though and smacked the morons whenever I saw them pulling shit.

Commander Shetberd, Gold league Protoss its been an infuriating pleasure.

Ill stay following your twitter.
>>
>>26541729
we never got to test out her 'enhanced' body...
>>
>>26541751
We wanted to. We also wanted Communist notRussia to be-fucking-have.

Shit doesn't go down like you hoped, you know?
They probably would've made that entire fight a little easier...still sore about not getting to use Super Ghost powers either though.

I was hoping for a Psionic impulse to make everyone in 100 miles kill themselves.

Zerg included.

>>26541760
I honestly don't even remember what you're talking about.

>>26541762
It was communist notcuba. More specifically nottropico

Yeah, I regret all them powers not being used. The campaign was supposed to be much longer. When I designed that list of powers I didn't even have an endgame in mind.
>>
>>26541772
Heh, best XO ever.
>>
>>26541787
>Yeah, I regret all them powers not being used

you could write how DP uses them after getting bad scores from food critics reviewing her restaurant on Umoja
>>
>>26541787
Did they go higher then 10?

You mentioned 50-70 threads I remember, and this is much shorter, so shit must have gotten busy quick.

I'd just like to offer this as a suggestion: I love the idea of being really powerful in quests, but it works better if there are other things that fuck us up despite that.

Aka: We were a super ghost at psionic level 10, sure, but we couldn't beat a whole army by ourselves.

Just a thought for future things.
>>
>>26541811
"I'm sorry, did you say it wasn't hard broiled enough?

"Noooow it is."

>>26541800
Soon, BARNEY QUEST
>>
>>26541813
IIRC 10 is as high as the academy recognizes, as they have never had someone go higher (without zerg or protoss interference)
>>
>>26541813
In lore, yes, but DP was a 10, she couldn't go higher because you'd be beyond kerrigan and this wasn't that kind of campaign.

I could've gone on for 50-70 or more easily, as the original plan was, but yeah. Rather just have it over with so I can move on to stuff I was supposed to have finished in, like, freakin' March.
>>
>>26541851
Heh, thinking maybe the everyday (almost) thing killed you?

No fucking idea how you did that.
>>
>>26541869
Not really. I think it's just that I spent too much time on threads because I'd be like "okay we need to get to point x" and you'd spend ten years too long at point y because "well what if we pump terrazine through the dominion base's air vents instead?" or whatever.
>>
>>26541895
>"well what if we pump terrazine through the dominion base's air vents instead?"

Was...Was that actually suggested?
>>
>>26541895
There was...a lot of that, yes. Some of it good ideas. Others of it...not so much.

We did get greedy a lot of the time but, oddly, it was the wrong kind of greed.

It's so ironic how that ended up fucking up the flow of the later parts of the quest so much...only to get super lucky at the end.
>>
>>26541918
Nah but I wouldn't have so much as blinked at it.
>>
>>26541919
Greedy not with bases...but with dem schematics.
>>
>>26541929
Also, for the record: That mech division at the end there didn't stand a chance either way

Vipers and Broodlords spell the end of Mech.

I wish we had gotten Thors...
>>
>>26541936
And it didn't mean shit because we controlled like, 5 bases out of 80
>>
>>26541756
Speaking of going mental - I loved the dream/nightmare sequences and the pseudo-propehcy.

Added some interesting dimensions to Delta and made her more...believable? relatable? More Quests need to do it. It also reminded me a lot of SpecOps - The Line, especially when you used some of the charred images for it.
>>
>>26541946
Yep.

Ling/bling/muta or roach/hydra/infestor vs bio with no mines was equally screwed.

I even had the queen on even tech so it'd be fair. She started out Zerglings and undertook missions on Jestsos and HA002 to gather more strains, eventually leading to the hive tech you fought.

You guys would've still been on Arclite siege tanks and firebats if I didn't throw schematics at you later on.
>>
>>26541987
Not me. When I post in quest generals or anything relevant to the thread I use this trip.
>>
>>26542000
What ended up eating up all our time, anyway?

There was like a huge section of time where it felt like we didn't get ANYthing new, schematics, or reinforcments.

I... I don't even fucking know. I'll have to go through it again eventually.

I didn't punish you guys for being overly cautious though. Not mechanically, i just had NPCs call you out on it when I started to get fed up.

>>26542016
failing

no seriously, we would fuck up something, get a bunch of people killed, and then spend 3 threads cleaning up afterwards, only to be back where we were before we fucked up, only to fuck up again
>>
>>26542073
Which is perfectly acceptable. While I do think you enjoyed our frustration a little, I didn't take you for a monster who enjoyed watching us fail.

Especially considering how it all ended.

Anyway, it's a real shame the high tension of the quest attracted soooo much hate. Glad you played through it though. Other QMs I've known have quit for much less.
>>
>>26542076
...yeah...you're probably right.

Like I said, the cold harsh decree of the dice was merciless. And as a result, well...we lost everything like, twice.

I bet Broodmother never once rolled a nat 1.
>>
>>26542108
Part of why I rushed it. I expected a bit of negative response, but mostly I expected player drops more than anything. There was a good deal of negative backlash. Mostly due to misunderstandings but that's sort of the nature of the game.
>>
>>26542129
Well there was always going to be negative responses, I guess. I mean, like you said, that's the nature of this type of game. Set up for big failures and all.

Unfortunately, >>26542121
>>26542076

We...well, basically: Being nice doomed us when the Broodmama was just going wild on the sector with her "LOL WHAT ARE POLITICS AND OR MORAL CHOICES RESOURCES!!!!"
>>
>>26542129
one thing /tg/ likes in its games is transparency, and if you don't use /tg/ dice to show everyone what what a roll is, anon starts getting paranoid, and the misunderstandings only festered that paranoid until those players became openly antagonistic towards the quest
>>
>>26542171
Yep. Which I don't really care about, since I prefer the system of not knowing.

It just sucks having to deal with openly hostile people suddenly because they don't like how 1 or 2 rolls went.
>>
>>26542171
The only problem with that is tg dice are not any less hateful.

I'd prefer to trust a DM and risk being railroaded a little then to sit and watch, with the DM, as we roll >30 over and over and over again with no way to cheat without openly making it obvious.

In our favor, that is.
Maybe I'm just a nice DM.
>>
>>26542194

Your interpretation of the rolls varied widely. Sometimes you were lenient, sometimes you killed people on the whims of a single roll. It didn't seem consistent.
>>
>>26542194
Looking back, I just realized the first thread ended with like, us getting our hand crushed and shit.

Man...old times.
>>
>>26541519
Wait what the hell do you mean no supply cap? You made us build supply depots and shit like, the 4th thread or something
