Predator Quest: Episode 42

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

The day grows late, and light drains from the sky. You make haste to the arena gates, with Sharp-Strike following close behind. There, you meet with Ebon-Claw and four others.

He approaches you, and sweeps his arm at his companions. "These are the most loyal of my guards. More will meet us at the prison. Are you ready?"

"Yes," you tell him.

"Good. Now, are you carrying the signal suppression devices I gave you? We can't afford to have you tracked."

Do you:

A. Say yes, and show him the cube device stowed in your pouch.
B. Confront him about the the poison devices hidden within.
>>
>>26537418
>A. Say yes, and show him the cube device stowed in your pouch.

Two can play at this game.
>>
>>26537418
A. If he doesn't know we disarmed them we'll be at the advantage.

I think he was provoking us into breaking Quick-Shadow out so he could then capture us and use us as proof that Cloud-Viper is carrying out illegal operations in Night-Prowler territory.
>>
>>26537418
A
>>
>>26537473
I was reading a few of the earlier threads and am beginning to think this jailbreak is unwise. Our mission was to collect information on the Night-Prowler ruling council so we could then exonerate Quick-Shadow and discover the conspirators. This puts that operation at risk. We might not even be able to uncover the conspiracy now. I don't think our Matriarch will be happy with this.
>>
>>26537497
In addition, if we are caught this could cause a disastrous inter-tribal incident.

Hmph. We'll see how things go tonight. Perhaps Quick-Shadow has information that may help us.
>>
>>26537481
>>A.

You say "yes, of course," and show him the cube device stowed in your pouch.

"Good. Now, we move."

You follow him out of the arena and towards the series of secure complexes where the prison lies. You stop a around the corner of a large warehouse. He taps a few times on his wrist computer, and a moment later, the warehouse door slides open. Ten more of his warriors greet him inside. You notice a large device sitting on a hover carrier in the middle of the warehouse. It's a disruptor warhead.

"Right," he tell you, "here's the plan. We will wait here - facing the gate - while I send two of my security experts to the rear door. They will cut the comm lines and put down signal scramblers, so the base can't call for help. Once they're done," he points to the disruptor bomb, "we detonate this thing, take their security measures offline, and storm the gates before they get the security back up. Simple, right?"

Do you:

A. Agree with this plan.
B. Tell him you should be with the security team sabotaging the rear entrance.
C. Tell him about the extra patrols Death-Gifter has ordered.
>>
>>26537516
Unless Quick-Shadow is already dead...
>>
>>26537617
>B. Tell him you should be with the security team sabotaging the rear entrance.

Allows us to watch for some sort of treachery.

Option C is unwise. We don't want him to know we've bugged Death-Gifter's house.

>>
>B. Tell him you should be with the security team sabotaging the rear entrance.
>>
>>26537639
>>B.

You tell him you should be with the security team sabotaging the rear entrance.

"No," he tells you flatly. "We need you up here, for the assault."

You insist, however, telling him your talents are wasted in a frontal assault. At last, he relents, and reluctantly agrees. He points to two warriors behind him.

"Red 6, Red 7, go with them." He turns to you. "Remember, don't talk to anyone, don't waste time snooping around, sneak in, deploy the signal scramblers, and destroy their comm equipment."

You agree, and the four of you set out. The two specialists, referred to only by their code monikers, lead the way silently.

You hear a voice over your private comms. "Look up and to the left."

You raise your head. You see two figures bob up for a split second on the roof of a large apartment, before disappearing again. It's Ashen-Blade and Steel-Arrow.

"We're in position." You click tersely to acknowledge.

You reach the rear of the prison, and lay prone.

There are four warriors on patrol. You notice a comm relay on the roof, and a series of cables leading up to it. Those are the cables you need to cut. One of the specialists begin to extend a spear gun. "Assault them," he tells you. "We'll cover."

You:

A. Ready your plasma casters and prepare to assault.
B. Suggest they launch a distraction while you go in for the cables.
>>
>>26537796
B, theyre unlikely to shoot us in the back till we get our friend out, but they wont mourn us
>>
>>26537796
>B. Suggest they launch a distraction while you go in for the cables.

They're trying to provoke an assault. Perhaps they want to get a recording of us.

This is shady.
>>
>>26537796
B.
>>
>>26537818
>B. Suggest they launch a distraction while you go in for the cables.

"That's a bad idea," you tell them. "More guards are just around the corner. Why don't you create a distraction."

The specialist says nothing. He looks through his scope, and fires. The shot strikes one of the guards square in the chest, killing him.

The remaining guards shout in alarm, and begins to take cover. One of them starts moving in your direction. The specialist who fired the shot looks at you, and bares his fangs. "There's your distraction. Now go."

Do you:

A. Open fire with your plasma casters on the advancing guard. (DC: Medium)
B. Hold your position and try to remain out of sight. (DC: Medium-Easy)
C. Take a few shots at the guards, attempt to cloak, and run away, leaving the specialists to take the attack.
>>
>>26537917
B, if we get a chance, kill this meathead
>>
>C. Take a few shots at the guards, attempt to cloak, and run away, leaving the specialists to take the attack.

As long as we *miss* all of the shots.

They are far to eager for us to attack.

B is also fine with me, so long as we do not kill anyone.
>>
>>26537917
What exactly are we doing in B? Holding position where? Next to the specialists?
>>
>>26537917
B, if possible, do what >>26537930 said and jam a knife through these dickheads dreadlocks

>>
>>26537965

You keep your head down and engage cloak. Plasma bolts begin to fly in your direction.

You hear a snarling to your left. "Go, coward! Go in, now!" the specialist demands.

You continue to hug the ground.

Suddenly, a large beam of light shines down from the top of the prison, and illuminates the area around you. The first specialist fires again, and takes down one of the guards running towards your position.

The second specialist crawls over to your position, grabs you by your shoulder, and puts a plasma pistol to your head.

"Go," he snarls. Suddenly, his head explodes in a shower of wet chunks as a plasma bolt smashes into it. You roll away. The first specialist, not realizing what has happened, continues to fire desperately.

He manages to take down two more before dying to return fire. You and Sharp-Strike quickly roll away from the beam of light and hide yourselves behind a nearby wall.

A few moments later, the shots stop. Suddenly, you hear a sharp and loud crack, signalling the detonation of the disruptor warhead. The spotlight goes dim. In the distance, chaos erupts.

Do you:

>>A. Attempt to sneak into the prison from the back.

Yon keep your head low and sprint for the prison complex. You motion Sharp-Strike to follow. Most of the guards have either been diverted to guard the front gate, or busy investigating the two specialist corpses.

You crouch, cloaked, looking for a way in. You suddenly notice the maintenance door slide open. A technician runs out, and past you. You quickly slide your combi-stick through the door, propping it open. With Sharp-Strike's help, you manage to pull it open wide enough for the two of you to sneak through.

You quickly glance around. The bulk of the prison complex is underground, and most of the guards are out front dealing with the attackers. You should use this chaos to your advantage.

Where should you head to next:

A. Try to find a control room where you can access records, and try to find where Quick-Shadow is being held.
B. Look for a way into the warden's office, and question those in charge of the prison.
C. Head straight for the cell blocks underground.

You make your way towards the center of the prison. Along the way, you find two technicians sprinting along with a large equipment satchel. You hear one shout to the other, "hurry, security room D, now!" You follow.

You stop just outside of the spherical room. It is unlit. The holo-screens inside are likewise dark. The disruptor warhead must have blacked them out.

You see the two technicians frantically unpacking their equipment removing one of the access panels on the wall. "We need get everything back online, fast!" You hear one of them say.

Do you:

A. Let them go about their work, while you remain out of side outside of the control room.
B. Burst in and stop them from doing so.

>>
>>26538641
Glad to see you back old-friend. We've come a long way since then, and have transitioned to the espionage and back-stabbery department.

I'll summarize.

Clan Night-Prowler has been supplying humans with Yautja tech. We uncovered the conspiracy with the aid of a certain Night-Prowler, called Quick-Shadow. Quick-Shadow is probably the only honorable Night-Prowler we've come across.

After uncovering the conspiracy, the Night-Prowler clan jailed Quick-Shadow and he is soon to be on trial for treason. Our plan was to gather information on the Night-Prowler ruling council in order to exonerate him, but we've decided to simply break Quick-Shadow out of prison with the help of a shady Night-Prowler infosec agent named Ebon-Claw.

Ebon-Claw is not to be trusted. You can learn about him by reading the Archives of the last two threads.
>>
>>26538729
so we're basically Predator Bond? Sweet. I can roll with this.
>>
>>26538662
>>B. Burst in and stop them from doing so.

Not wanting to let them bring the security systems back on line quite so soon, you quickly turn the corner and rush in. You take one of the technicians while Sharp-Strike takes the other.

Wary the honor code, you slam your victim's head hard against the wall and knock him unconscious. Sharp-Strike brings his elbow around the other until he, too, loses consciousness. You unplug their equipment from the jacks in the wall and turn to the control panels.

None of the holo computers are powered, but you're able to rip out their data slates, where the information is stored.

You hook the slates up to your wrist computer and run a search for Quick-Shadow. You find him to be assigned to "Interrogation block, E", which is located at the very bottom of the facility.

The fastest way down would be via the lift. but with the disruptor warhead detonation, you're not certain if it's powered. Though if the facility is as deep as it looks, the lower levels still might retain some power.

Or, you can attempt to take the longer way, and pass through each cell block layer via ramps and stairs.

Do you:

A. Head towards the lift.
B. Take the stairs down.
>>
>>26538794
stairs, we'll have to do it all the way up, too. get quick shadow and get out, all else is secondary
>>
>>26538794
>B. Take the stairs down.

I don't want to be stuck in an elevator.

Can we try sending the elevator down? It would make a good distraction.
>>
>>26538794
could we climb down the lift shaft?
>>
I'm worried about this. Fighting our way up a staircase would be incredibly difficult.
>>
>>26538862

>>
>>26538881
We're just two Yautja. We will die in a frontal assault. We need to think tactically.

This is tough.

>>26538831

>>26538909

>B. Take the stairs down.

"Let's head for the stairs. Follow me," you tell Sharp-Strike.

You reach the first set of stairs and begin to sprint down. Along the way, you evade several guards running up to reinforce the front.

You hear Ashen-Blade's voice over the comms. "Death-Gifter's patrol has arrived. They're helping Ebon-Claw storm the prison. You need to hurry."

You acknowledge, and hasten your pace. You reach the first set of cells. There are about 10 or so prisoners in all, most of them categorized fro "light offences", presumably theft or honor violations, you guess. There's a mechanical switch nearby to open the cell doors.

>A. Keep on running through to the next level.

You ignore them and continue forward, down the next set of stairs. You put your back against the wall as you approach the next cell block. You peek around the corner to notice three warriors patrolling back and forth. One of them slams the cell cage with his plasma pistol and yells for the occupant to behave. This block appears to be for more serious offenders. You notice a mechanical switch on the wall near you. You think you can dash for it without being noticed.

Thinking a little extra chaos can't hurt, you open the cell doors.

Most of the prisoners begin crowding the stair behind you, eager to reach the surface and escape. But a sizeable number strips the guards of their weapons and begins to storm the cell block below.

You quickly follow, and make your way down the stairs after them. You hear a loud series of cries and grunts as the prisoners are engaged in combat with the guards. This appears to be a maximum security cell block, for those bound for execution.

The battle rages. Several prisoners are killed immediately, but the guards are not having an easy time of it.

You look for room E, and find it. The door is locked.

Not wasting time, you stand back and fire a shot at the locking mechanism with your plasma caster. The bolt slams into the metal and turns the lock into slag. You kick the door open.

You find Quick-Shadow slumped in the corner. A multitude of bruises tell you he's suffered more than a few beatings.

"I know," you assure him. "He's using us. But we're using him, too, to get to you. Now let's go."

"Three-Claw, listen to me. Ebon-Claw wants me dead. I'm the last loose thread. I am the last person to see the Matriarch alive, and I'm the last person to hold information regarding the link between Night-Star and clan Night-Prowler. He kills me, and his mission is complete.

The only reason I'm still alive is because Sword-Dancer wants that information as leverage for a second coup. That's why I've been locked up. That's why Ebon-Claw needs to stage this breach."

"And he needs us as the scapegoat, because it wouldn't be proper for Night-Prowlers to attack their own prison," you tell him, "I know."

He begins to pace back and forth. "How bad is it up there?"

"Bad," you tell him. "Ebon-Claw is winning fast."

He suddenly stops and looks at you. "We need to get my spear gun."

"No, we need to get you out first."

He leads you out of the cell, to the end of the corridor, and down a second set of stair cases.

"The call for my arrest was a sham. My clan's Matriarch used it as an excuse to question me about Night-Star," he tells you along the way.

"The councillors were involved in the conspiracy, of course, and they were rushing to destroy any and all incriminating data. The Matriarch knew the coup was coming, and spent every last bit of her resources to beat them to it. If she can find evidence linking the councillors, then she'd have leverage."

He suddenly turns to you. "I found it, Three-Claw. It was in Night-Star's home. A small transmission waiting on his personal comms. It contains the outline of a plan to free Night-Star, and it had every councillor's name on it. But it was too late. They assaulted her palace, and she had to flee."

"And this information... is in your spear gun?"

"Fourth spear in the clip. It's hollow."

"Right."

You hear Ashen-Blade's voice over your comms. "That's it. Gate is down. Ebon-Claw is advancing. Last chance to take him down."

You respond:

A. "Do it. Take the shot. Bring the bastard down."
B. "Not yet. Get off the roof and follow him inside."
C. "No. Remain hidden, and see if you can secure us an exit."
>>
>>26540014
take the shot and observe. if they so much as sniff in your direction, run
>>
>>26540014
>C. "No. Remain hidden, and see if you can secure us an exit."

Extraction is most important.
>>
>>26540014
take the shot, watch the reaction. as >>26540044 said, safety is priority
>>
Are you guys sure this is a good idea?

I think it will bring hell down on Ashen-Blade and this facility. We need to find a way out. That should take priority.

Oh well. Whatever happens, I hope for the best.
>>
>>26540014
C.
>>
>>26540014
B, if we can catch them in crossfire and drone mines, we could conceivably take a lot of them down at once
>>
>>26540014
A

we can always say he died in the attack
>>
>>26540107
I implore you to change the vote to C.

He probably planned in the case of his death. Perhaps a transmission will be sent informing the Ruling Council.

I wash my hands.
>>
>>26540014
C: We need to get out first.
>>
>>26540014
B, its no point getting out if we are dead in the facility
>>
>>26540014
B.
>>
Looks like tie between A and C.

Any tie breakers?
>>
>>26540014
>C
We're here to get in and get out with the evidence and our friend, not fight a war. Or start one between our clans. If we start shooting they can upload it from their masks and go "Hey Cloud Viper is in our base killin' our dudes."
>>
>>26540146
Well, now it's a 3 way tie.
>>
>>26540155
ive already voted for B, but put it in too
>>
C
>>
>>26540155
>C
>>
I'll vote for C.
>>
>>26540177
>>26540178
>>26540181
Glad you guys came around.
>>
>>26540178
>>26540177
C wins. Write-up inc.
>>
>>26540186
I just now finished catching up to this thread. Glad I finished when I did.

If we have him take the shot now, we never get to see the look on his face when his bombs don't go boom.
>>
>>C.

"No. Hold that shot. We need you to stay hidden and secure us an exit."

"Understood. We'll look for way to get you out of there."

You acknowledge.

You continue pressing forward with Quick-Shadow and Sharp-Strike. You descend one more level and reach a circular corridor. Quick-Shadow motions you to stick against the wall.

"Her office is just around the next bend."

He shifts a few meters down and takes a peek. "Two guards outside. Heavily armed," he informs you.

You prepare yourself and get ready for combat.

>when we'll finish this arc.

excellent, being a detective in night-douche territory is starting to drag on too long
>>
>>26540254
OOC, what was the correct choice on taking the shot, in your opinion? or no answer?
>>
>>26540282
there was no correct choice, either Ebon-fag died then and there and Ashen-bro had shit to deal with, or he secured us an exit when we need to make a hasty retreat
>>
>>26540254
Good. See you then.

I think you've done very well developing the plot.
>>
>>26540298
I'm hoping that the secured exit is what's going to allow quick-shadow to survive.
>>
>>26540282

I was expecting you to have them follow Ebon-Claw into the facility, actually, but planning for extraction works too.

I would have brought in Death-Gifter to take part in the villain showdown if Ebon-Claw died.
>>
>>26540277
I'm working out the next arc, and the original plan was to have it take place on Earth, but feel free to throw in suggestions; I haven't made up my mind about anything yet.
>>
>>26540309
as a recap, how many warriors are with him? seventeen or so?
>>
>>26540317
10 or so, plus Death-Gifter's patrols, so about... 20 in all.
>>
>>26540309
I suppose it is good he survived, then. Allows him to think he has the situation managed.

Death-Giver would have been more vigilant after Ebon-Claw's death.

>>26540328
Twenty!?

We should have had Ashen-Blade enter the facility.
>>
>>26540328
thats why i wanted B, but an escape route is good too. how many ways out of this facility are there?
>>
>>26540338
A few... they'll be revealed tomorrow.
>>
>>26540338

Didn't we already change the location of our tracker? What I'm guessing is Ebon Claw can track his jammers, so we stick them on some guards or something and try to escape that way.
>>
>>26540381
looking forward to it, as always
>>
>>26540397
We took them apart last thread and saw no transmission capabilities, if I remember correctly.

We did however find plastic explosives tipped with poison needles.
>>
>>26540420
I'm just worried he knows what to look for/knows the frequency of the trackers or something.
>>
>>26540484
It's good we set the prisoners free. We're going to need many distractions to get out of this.

We're heavily outnumbered, so we must focus on subterfuge and evasion. I believe our mask still has the holo-transmitter.

Tough.
