You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to investigate breaches of forbidden knowledge by clan Weyland on the planet Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known in the human tongue.

After dumping the assassin's corpse into the reactor exhaust shafts housed beneath the arena, Ebon-Claw, the Night-Prowler judge and elder, bids you to follow him.

The two of you thread through the labyrinthine passages of the arena underbelly until you come to a dark and poorly lit chamber encased in stone and metal.

Ebon-Claw presses his palm into a mechanism along the far wall, triggering a hidden door to slide open, revealing a tight passage. You enter.

Ebon-Claw pushes a key on a nearby control panel, turning on the lights. The room is bare. A young warrior is shackled to a rack in the middle. The blood stains splattered all over the ground near him tells you the grisly truth - he's been extensively tortured, and is now most likely dead.

At first it's difficult to identify him through the macabre wounds, but after some scrutiny, you're shocked to find this was Dark-Spike, the Night-Prowler competitor who attempted to frame Sharp-Strike. You feel uncomfortable. This is so far removed from the rules honor and pride you revered. This is not how a warrior should die.

Ebon-Claw steps forward. "He was stubborn, but in the end, he gave me what I needed to know."

Do you:

A. Show your distaste and rebuke Ebon-Claw for the torture.
B. Ask him if this is how all Night-Prowlers deal with prisoners.
C. Listen to what he has to say.
>>

You growl menacingly at the scene, clearly showing your disapproval, but you say nothing, and listen.

He points to Dark-Spike's limp form. "The plan was for him to frame your student, have both you thrown into my custody, then arrange for you to die while under my care. When Cloud Viper demands your return, I am put on a sham trial, and executed. Who sent him to do this he would not say, but I've gleamed much from his feverish mutterings while under intense pain."

He begins to pace back and forth. "He mentioned several names, but the one I caught is "Night Star," with whom of course, you've made your acquaintance.

"Fortunately, yesterday's incident gave me caution, and when a canister of poison gas went missing from my armory, I immediately launched an investigation - personally. I combed the entire city for residue of the gas, and surprise, I found it near your dormitory. If they were solely after framing me, surely they could have found other, easier victims. The fact that whoever masterminded this went after you twice, well, three times now, tells me they also want you dead. Why?"

You gather your thoughts for a moment, and answer:

A. "Not sure. I was hoping you could tell me. I'm just here to take part in the games."
B. "Why don't you tell me who and why they're after you, first."
C. "I've been snooping where I shouldn't, and my targets happen to be high ranking Night-Prowler leaders."
D. Tell him the truth - about your investigations and attempts to find a link between the Night-Prowler ruling council and Night-Star.

"Why don't you tell me who and why they're after you, first," you tell him.

He thinks for a moment. "Fair enough. I'll go first."

He tilts his head upwards and after a long pause, begins to speak. "Who? I don't know. If I did, he'd be dead. It's certainly not Night-Star. The Empress's agents have him now. No one escapes her agents, and I wouldn't bet on Night-Star being the first exception in millennia. As for why? Well, I can think of several reasons."

He turns to you. "And I'll tell you this, only because you're an outsider. Judging these games and training young warriors is my hobby. My real occupation, and I've been at it since long before you were born, is burying information for the clan."

He begins to pace back and forth. "Did you like the fail-safes on Night-Star's personal computer? The viral worm that informs us any time it's been tampered with? Yes, of course I know you triggered it. I was the one who implemented those fail-safes. You see, our clan, by its very nature, brokers information and espionage, and sometimes, information needs to be destroyed. Utterly.

"Records need to be wiped, systems purged, evidence burned, and sometimes, persons silenced. I was very, very, very good at it. So good at it that every time they tried putting someone else to the task, I had to be summoned to clean up the mess. Someone must think I know something they don't like, and they're trying to take me out to tie a loose thread. No one knows my true role except those who put me in power, which narrows down our list of suspects."

He turns to you. "Your turn."

A. Tell him you're just here to take part in the games. You're just a tourist.
B. Tell him it must be something related to Night-Star, and ask him what information regarding the former fleet master has been "buried".
C. Tell him you've been snooping around the Night-Prowler leaders in an attempt to find a link between the Night-Prowler ruling council and Night-Star.

I'm thinking we might need a pastebin of all the relevant personalities we've been interacting with.
Might cut down on some naming confusion and make it easier to connect the dots between them.

Basically, our interaction with Clan Night-Prowler have been through the following:

>Their Matriarch (name I forgot) - tried to undermine us during the council meeting, but made amends
>The one in charge of the armory (name I forgot too) - gave us the hologram gadget
>Quick-Shadow - betrayed by Night-Star
>Night-Star - all around grand douche, and collecting ships through scrupulous means
>Ebon-Claw - Night-Prowler's top CIA agent-like dude
>>
>>B.

You tell him it must be something related to Night-Star, and ask him what information regarding the former fleet master has been "buried".

He clicks thoughtfully. "Yes, of course, that was my first thought as well. Ever since we got wind of Night-Star's... capture... the entire Night-Prowler ranking echelon went into a frenzy. I was ordered to take anything that's even tangentially related to him and destroy it. There was a lot of it. I wiped entire archives and replaced them with dummy, made up intel. I purged his service records, battle records, and even ripped apart his house.

"I never spent much time looking over the information I was destroying, though. Never was enough time and I wouldn't know where to begin even if I wanted to. I was too busy trying to race the Matriar..."

His eyes go wide for a split second, and just as you think he's on to something, his expression returns back to stoicism. "...ch's agents."

He turns to you. "I only know there was a lot of information I needed to obliterate. I never did try to comb through them. Perhaps they think I did? Well then they're fools. All that information is long gone now."

You say:

A. "Surely there must be some traces of it left. I'm certain you must have kept some private records."
B. "Why would the Matriarch's agents go against the directive to wipe Night-Star's info?"
C. "I think you're hiding something. Look, if we're going to work together, you'll need to tell me everything."

"Why would the Matriarch's agents go against the directive to wipe Night-Star's info?" You ask.

He makes a few tumbling gestures with his arm. "Who knows? Perhaps there was some evidence there that incriminates her. Perhaps she wanted to get her hands on them to make sure she gets to them first. Perhaps she's the one trying to take us down, out of revenge."

He turns to you. "But it's not like we can ask her. After all, she's not exactly around, is she?"

He leans closer. "You wouldn't happen to know where she is, now, would you? Because that could be why they're out to get you. After all, it's only sensible that she extradites herself to the bosom of a rival clan, such as Cloud-Viper."

You answer:

A. "No, I have no idea where she is. Why would I? I'm not a Night-Prowler."

You answer, "No, but I have a friend who might - you have him in prison." You elaborate, and tell him only the bare minimums of Quick-Shadow's plight and the impending trial.

Ebon-Claw clicks thoughtfully. "Ah, of course. I've heard of him... The last person to see the Matriarch alive before she left the planet. That prison is managed by Sword-Dancer, a current high ranking member of the ruling council; one of the four, and former aide to the Matriarch. He always was a bit of a rogue. Now that I think about it, I'm almost certain the Matriarch or her loyalists are the ones behind this. They're probably trying to put her back in the seat of power, but before they do that, they'll need to destroy every shred of evidence which links them to Night-Star. Namely, myself, and you."

He thinks for a moment. "We need to break your friend out. Find out what he knows. It'll be difficult, but he trusts you, and you two can work together to make this a success."

Do you:

A. Agree to this plan.
B. Tell him it's too risky, and you should focus on investigating the council members guilty of conspiracy to broker an appeal.

Alright. Then who is the new head honcho of their clan? And if Ebon-Claw was not working in-sync with the former Matriarch, who gave the orders to him?

I shut down the alarms on the outside wall, and I have a few warriors make a distraction from the rear door. Then, we go in from the front, and overpower them."

He turns to you. "Do you have any friends in this city? Can bring some help?"

He turns to a storage bin behind him and pulls out two small cubes. He hands them to you. "Here," he tells you, "keep this on you at all times. It kills the signal from the trackers in your badge, so they can't track you. Now go. We don't have much time!"

After you take the cubes, he bids you farewell and escorts you out.

You bring up Ashen-Blade on comm, and tell him in great detail of what just transpired. He listens carefully, and is silent until you tell him about Sword-Dancer being in charge of the prison.

"Sword-Dancer? That's interesting. I was scoping out the gathering at the Hall of Ceremonies last night. Most of the ruling council showed up. Death-Gifter. Keen-Mark. Dark-Shroud. You know who wasn't there? Sword-Dancer."

"Maybe because he had a prison to watch over," you suggest.

"Possible... I wasn't able to hear much of what they said, but on the way out, Death-Gifter referred to Sword-Dancer as 'a problem'. Doesn't seem like they get along."

You keep this in mind, and finish your narration.

Ashen-Blade considers this for a while. "Ebon-Claw. That's a new name to me. Something doesn't seem right. Why would he think the Matriarch is out to get him? I'm not convinced by his leap of logic. But he's right about one thing - we should break Quick-Shadow out." He pauses for a moment. "Do you trust him?"

"Right, don't you worry. We'll be on him." he responds.

"Three-Claw? Uh, can you look at this?" Sharp-Strike directs your attention to his wrist computer. "I was looking over the transmitter logs... you know, ah, from Death-Gifter's house. Found a transmission of tonight's patrol orders for the city guard."

You scrutinize the orders. You realize the orders call for almost triple the amount of guards covering the patrol area. Last night, it was 5 guards. Tonight, it will be 14. The order contains no explanation for the change in patrol patterns, and a quick scan through the rest of the transmitter log reveals nothing.

"This can't be a coincidence," Ashen-Blade mutters." He looks up at you. "What do you think?"

Say:

A. "This complicates matters too much. I will contact Ebon-Claw; we postpone it for tonight and move it till tomorrow."
B. "We'll let Ebon-Claw deal with it. Nothing changes. We need to get Quick-Shadow out. The Night-Prowlers aren't squeamish about torture, and every day counts."

Edit:

Should read to "Patrol area" to mean "area around the prison".

Playing intensifies.

Ebby tipped off the guards that something big was going down and then comes to us to facilitate said big event.

We bite it, our Clan loses face, his Clan regains political power and position.

Cut and dry. Geek this fuck and blast off of this rock.

Don't let them in on the fact that we got Death-Gifter's house bugged.
And I think we figured out who Ebon-Claw works for now, since he's the only one we told about springing out Quick-Shadow.

Damn it. What are the cubes. Brainstorm.

Perhaps they activate an alarm in the prison.

Bombs.

He can kill us and the guy we're trying to save and make it look like an accident. He'll probably write it off as some treachery of our Clan.

B, ask him what the cubes are, if he recognises them or what they could be

Maybe... we could try eating them. Our digestive system shall find out.

"We'll let Ebon-Claw deal with it. Nothing changes. We need to get Quick-Shadow out. The Night-Prowlers aren't squeamish about torture, and every day counts."

You pause for a moment. "Though it is rather suspicious that Death-Gifter somehow knew about the plans." You suddenly recall seeing Death-Gifter's shuttle parked in the plaza.

You turn to Ashen-Blade. "When you passed through the plaza, just now, did you see a fancy shuttle parked in the corner?"

"No," he answers.

"Must have left then." You quickly comb through the transmitter logs from his shuttle, but find nothing apart from small talk with the pilot.

It's nearly time to meet Ebon-Claw to launch the operation.

You take out the two cubes you stashed in your pocket. You show them to Ashen-Blade, and ask him if he knows what they are.

"No. Never seen them before. Will need to try taking one apart to find out, though the last time we tried something similar didn't go so well, if you'll recall."

Do you:

A. Leave them in the dormitory for later.
B. Attempt to pry one open. (DC: Hard)

>>B. Attempt to pry one open. (Success! vs. DC 17)

You carefully lay one of the cubes down on a flat surface. Ashen-Blade hands you a small set of probes from his belt.

You carefully pry off the top cover to reveal the sensitive circuitry underneath.

You put on your vision mask and give it a careful scan. You identify several key components - including a signal squelcher and filter. So far it looks exactly as advertised - a scrambler that suppresses signals of a certain frequency, such as those found on your trackers.

However, there appears to be something else, underneath. You carefully strip away the circuitry to find a second panel underneath. You insert a probe near the edge. Suddenly, a miniature mechanical spring goes off. By sheer luck or reflex, you quickly press the probe against the spring and push it back.

"Mechanical tamper detection trigger," Ashen-Blade tells you. "Works even when unpowered. Good thing you caught it. Fast hands. Good work."

You continue your probing, and lift the second panel. You find a small sphere underneath. You open it to find a core lined with a touch of plastic explosives surrounded by darts, the tips of which are poisoned.

You've seen this before - on the dead agent. It triggers, detonates the explosive, shoots off the pins, and kills its victim by fast poison.

You carefully put it down.

Do you:

A. Remove the poison sphere from both cubes and put them back together, then carry them on you.
B. Leave them in the dormitory.
C. Confront Ebon-Claw about this.

>>A.

You carefully remove the poison sphere from the cube and stash it into a small box, and assemble the cube back together.

You take the other cube and do this same - this time avoiding triggering the spring all together.

You turn to Sharp-Strike. "It's time."

Ashen-Blade bids you to be cautious. "This won't be the only trip up his sleeve. Be ready for anything."

You stand up, take the plasma casters, and head off to meet Ebon-Claw.

Looking forward to the next thread.

Next thread we should take the poison spheres and plant them on him.
