Hey /tg/, you want to pillage, plunder, cast foul black magics, and steal souls? Well, every prospective agent of Hell has to start somewhere...

This is Imp Quest (1 of hopefully many).

You are a mere, newborn Imp freshly awoken from your dream-state and ripped out of your fleshy cocoon by a nursery Devil. You look up at it and you know; you know what it is, a higher ranking member of Hell, and what you are, a lowly maggot freshly metamorphosed from your larval state of a damned soul into a wretched spirit of Pain and Torment. There is work to do, and you shall do it.

All Devils are Soldiers of Hell. There is a war being fought, and the battlefield is the material realm. However, this is by no means a conventional war. The enemies of Hell cannot tread upon your King's domain, and neither can denizens of Hell tread in the Heavens. Yet. There comes a time when this will no longer be the case, but for now, this is a distant, hazy future.

Slacking will not be tolerated. Hell knows when you've been lazy, and not a moment of thought later and you have to get to work. There are mortals to be tempted, deals to be wrought, and souls to steal.

... But how can you do this when you haven't even established what kind of Imp you are?

Are you a:
>Strong Imp, as in your physical attributes grow faster
The Strength of your Damned Spirit lends to tasks such as possession, soul-snatching, and of course physically moving objects when you have a manifested, physical form.
>Smart Imp: as in your mental attributes grow faster.
Your smarts lend to how observant you are, what kind of foul magics you can wreak, and the strength of your connection to Hell's collective subconscious.
>Guileful Imp as in your social attributes grow faster.
Your guile lends to how convincing you are, how resilient and tightly woven your contracts are, and your likelihood of being summoned by mortal sorcerers and warlocks.

>>
Guilef- aww...
>>
>>26473817
You pause to inspect yourself. You're not that particularly big of an imp. You stick your tongue out. It's quite long, but it's not particularly forked. Feeling the horns on your head, gives you the answer though. Your horns are quite long, longer than some of the horns you see on other freshly born imps in the spawning pit. You must be a smart imp.

There is much to be done in Hell though, and anything that you do could net an opportunity to steal some power from another individual, or even be awarded it if you're an especially useful imp.

In the brooding pit, you see only three nursery Devils tending to the cocoons birthing other imps, but they're by far outnumbered by the wobbling and hatching cocoons. Also there are numerous unguarded larva oozing along the pit that, while small, might be delicious and good for your strength.

High up above you, you see a great way station, like a floating bus stop. You know it heads to the mortal world, but as you are now, you're not sure you could actually possess anything stronger than a grasshopper should you go there.

Elsewhere, there is a Colosseum-like structure. You can here the jeers and cries all the way from where you are.

What do?

Sorry, mate, the first few guys piled on smarts.

That's one vote for visiting the way station, and one vote for eating the larva.

First thing to get three votes is the action, as said before.
>>
>>26474189
Is eating lava really good? Anyway im totally going for lava.
>>
>>26474243
I'll concede to larva, because why not.
>>
>>26474046
Deliscious larva
>>
>>26474046

Keeping a wary eye on the Devils tending to the fresh hatchlings, you begin skulking out of the way and picking the grub-like little larvae off of the ground and the walls of the brood pit. Popping one into your mouth experimentally yields a tiny burst of energy in your tiny body. Ah, so there is some power in these things!... but not much.

Gaining some confidence, you begin to gorge yourself on the larva around the area, under the noses of the understaffed nursery Devils. Isn't it lucky you weren't eaten as a larvae? These things will just mature into other Imps competing against you in the hierarchy anyways.

You must have horked down a couple dozen of the little crawly things before it becomes too risky to do so, but you feel a little stronger than before.

+2 power.

Someone should start a cherubim quest, wherein you play a freshly spawned ally of heaven.

>>
Hey OP, a question, will we be an imp forever or will we be able to evolve into some kind of demonic badass? It's cool if we stay as an imp though.
>>
>>26474369
Looking for work doesn't take long. Being the a smart imp like you are, you have a stronger connection to the collective of Hell, stronger than most newborns anyways. Clambering out of the broodpit, you begin your search the search for power under the oh so devious guise of helping. Too bad every Devil has beaten you to that ploy, but at least someone somewhere needs help, hmm?

You come across an odd "settlement" of sort, complete with what looks like a barracks for strong Demon Soldiers and several nearby buildings including one big off-white building with several steps leading to it. Several heavily robed demons are trailing in and out of that building and are all much bigger than you are.

You sense that there is scut work to be done

>in the barracks
>in the building with the robed Devils
>in a small building that resembles a series of outhouses.

What do?

>>
>>26474548
Robes! You see robes and your impy little brain puts two together and you conclude, these guys must be smert. You plod over there and the robed Devils just keep filing in and out to a rhythm only apparent to them. One even steps on your tail and keeps on moving without even noticing you. Rude, but there's little you can do about it. You can tell these guys are a few pegs higher than you on the totem pole.

Going inside, you can see other imps and small variant incarnations of the Damned filing around, carrying scrolls, organizing books, and other things. It would appear you've come across the House of Wisdom. Oh so many things you can do here! One clever bastard is even siphoning off some of the magic being cast by a bigger Devil. It'll be fun to watch if he gets caught.

What do?

After this post, I'm going to start rolling stuff with the basic stats put up for strength, smarts, and guile being a 1:1 mod for a d% roll. I'll put the DC of actions up too starting with the next choice. Best of the first three rolls for an action is the roll used. Critfails override this, but critsucceeds cancel out critfails.

>>26474758

You sneak around and look for tomes and scrolls, but they refuse to open for you, like they're super-glued shot. Even the scrolls refuse to unfurl. You have a feeling it has to do not with your physical strength but with your low power levels. The answer in every quandary in hell is to just get stronger, of course.

Hmm, there's an ordering system here with numbers, least to greatest. You have no idea what that means.

Abandoning that line of pursuit, you head off and mage to see a Devil in the midst of casting. You discretely try to look busy nearby while you suck some of the excess magic away. Great success! You've managed to acquire +3 power from that... but dare you take more?

Successfully, you siphon even more off of the spell. You look like you're just going about your own business too, so no worries. Those silly big Devils just spew it around so wantonly, that you'd be doing Hell a disservice by -not- taking it.

Hmm, those scrolls could have something nice in them. What could you possibly uncover? You look at the various stacks of books, scrolls, and other sorts of papers and parchments and again, you have a strike of inspiration from your connection to Hell's collective subconcious. It pays to be a smart imp. Toddling along, you head down to where the number system organizing these things is lowest. The lowest ranking scroll has an ornate 5 on its wax seal. The next lowest is 8, and after that, a 17... hmm.

Just as you break the seal on the scroll, now knowing that the numbers are the ammount of Power you need to access them, a grabby red hand snatches it away from you! Whirling around, you see a smaller, shifty eyed imp, coiled like a spring and ready to bolt. He must have been waiting for a stronger imp to open a scroll for him!

No mercy for this sniveling little thief. You bring your forehead down and ram your larger than average horns into his back, scraping off his not-flesh. The little imp lets out a shrill squeal but can't do anything with you pinning it down. You continue to savage him with your horns until he stops moving.

A tingling moves down your horns. Ooooh, this little guy did gather up some power before he met himself with a bad end. You sample the black ichor trailing down your horns and it tastes bitter, unbelievably foul... but there's the barest hint of power hiding in it.

Quickly horking down what you can of the corpse, unhinging your jaw and distending your belly, you swallow the little shit whole. Ugh, that tasted nasty. Looks like eating other imps isn't the best source of power... but there was some power to be found there.

+2 power. Total Power: 10

Now that you have the chance to read the scroll, you see that it's addressed specifically to new imps. How convenient.

"Welcome, servant of Hell, to your eternity in the glorious principalities of their glorious light. You will find in this House of Wisdom many tomes of power and magic but little else. Magic is not All, but it is powerful. It will also drain you of your power reserves, but it may be the key to netting even more power, such as when a mortal summoner drags you into his realm.

Only the strongest of Hell may partake in the more advanced tomes and therefore only those with certain ammount of power can break the seals on these collections.

You need 1000 to metamorphose into your next stage of your Wretched Unholy Existence. Gather it however you can during your service to hell.

Hmm, that's intriguing. You open up your next scroll, might as well since you have the power. Unfurling it, you see some arcane gobbledegook that soon becomes utterly seered in your mind.

You've gained the Touch of Fire spell, set shit on fire with your bare hands! This fire is utterly mundane after started and spreads like normal fire. Being a demon though, you needn't fear it. This is a low level spell and doesn't really consume any power to speak of.

Now, you don't think you can yet open much else at your current power level... but you should return here, oh yes you should.

The Waystation is up... up very high, but that's no problem for the likes of hell. While in your native realm, flight is simple, nay instinctual. And so, you can fly, fly high up to the rocky ceiling dripping black and green ooze on the lower plane of hell below.

You arrive on the edge on a platform. Looking down, you see a hollowed-out cone of hell, the uppermost layer that you were born on, and several lower rings each descending into a darker, danker part of this cursed realm. You can smell a dark and terrible force brooding at the very bottom, at a depth your little imp brain, although mighty among imps, cannot comprehend.

You enter the way station and it seems this area has all kinds of imps, big imps, imps with long, forked tongues, and even imps with big horns like you milling about. There are even a few bigger Devils here.

You know this place goes to earth... but how are you going to get there?

"You must be new here," he hmms again, "Tell you what, I'll fill you in with the grand tour for, oh, three of your power. A good deal, yes?" The other smart imp notes the reaction on your face and retorts with, "Or you can figure it out yourself."

You scoff at the idea of giving up your precious power for something that you should totally be able to figure out on your own.

You sit... and sit... and sit... Wow, this is taking a long time. Or is it? There's no sun here, no night. Time's hard to keep.

Finally, you see three, bigger, apelike Imps with horns smaller than yours push through the crowd. they were half again as big as most of the imps in here. Suddenly, the stone gate opened up a hazy image that you instinctively recognize as the mortal world. A chilly breeze sweeps through. Brrr, it's a lot colder than Hell.

The three ape-like imps and a larger devil all barrel through, and you see them turn into a fine mist on the other side and scatter in different directions. Looks like you don't stay fully corporeal in their world...

Is that it? You see a few other imps waiting in the waiting room. Eventually, a small portal opens up and swallows that forked tongue imp that had tried to undercut the other imp selling you information. That targeted just him though.

Hmmm....

Well, with no one to tell you what this means, you'll have to figure it out later.

Flying back to the barracks, you peeeek inside only to see several soldiers carrying armors and weapons, and bossing imps around. The imps seem to be folding things, helping the much, much bigger Hell Soldiers, six or seven times as tall as any imp you've seen, don their equipment. Some imps are even fighting one another for the Soldier's amusement.

You watch the other imps fight for a while. It looks like the current champ of one ring is a brawny imp that overcompensates with his left side, but his brawn makes it so that he's tough for other, less brawny imps to exploit, or so it seems. Perhaps you could? The floor seems to be made out of some sort of black wood...

Also, the soldiers and even some of the imps seem to be placing wagers on who will win or lose. One fork-tongued imp seems to be the bookie. They're clearly betting Power.

You look and watch, and you have to fight to keep down the most devious little smile from splitting your tiny little face.

And you step forward asking to participate in the next fight. The current champ, a brawny imp, looks almost incredulously and begins the laughing, jeering, and taunting appropriate of the current leader in the polls.

Some of the Soldiers look intrigued and it's estimated that, 5:1 you lose. They don't think you can do it, it seems. The bookie collects bets, some smaller imps regurgitating power gems and handing them over, looking to make some easy power off of your defeat. The soldiers pass around much larger sums in the form of larger and much brighter power gems they pull out of themselves... enough to make your greedy little imp eyes bulge and your mouth salivate.... that's a lot of power.

Eventually, you place your measily 5 power bet and move into position. The reigning champ is much bigger than you, probably growing fat by betting on himself.

Getting into postion, you wait for him to lunge at you, and lunge he does. Stooping down, you place your hands on the floor and set it on fire! A small flame bubbles up and seperates you and the bigger imp... of course you devils don't have to worry about mundane fire.

Diving through the fire and smoke, you attempt to gore his exposed left side!

The brawny imp sees you and attempts to give a retaliatory strike, but he's too late. Your horns sneak up under his guard and gore him right in the side. Wrapping your arms around him, you manage to take him down and deliver a savage clawing while he's got your large horns stuck in his rib cage.

Withdrawing your horns, you see that he's unable to get up. It seems you hit something important. You are declared the winner!

You receive 25 power, with a net of 20.

Gloat like a motherfucker, then head back and see just how many scrolls we can open with this newfound power. If it continues like this we'll be in the mortal plane soon enough.

You quickly swallow your winnings and power up before scampering off. No need to test fate, and besides, you have scrolls to read. Perhaps you can game the system some other time.

At the house of wisdom, you head back to the low power scrolls section and you see the #17 scroll. Oh how delicious. You rush over and pop that fucker open immediately to gain its contents. The scroll has another simple spell within it.

Power Meter: For no power, this spell reveals whether a demon has more power than you, less, or the same. For 1 power, it reveals the exact count rounded off to the nearest thousand. For 2, to the nearest hundred... etc.

A larger, robed devil with a hideously long, twisted set of four horns turns out to be standing behind you. You whip around and look up. He does not look amused.

"You may be of sufficient power to read those, but you are yet to pay tribute to the House of Wisdom."

Well... shit.

For your exploits today, you have gained +1 str and +1 int, totaling you up at...

"We couldn't possibly gain any sort of power of worth from the likes of you," he said- oh dear he knew what you were thinking- "You will work, you will provide your services to those who need them. One day, one scroll. got it?"

You work one more day, stealing power as you go. There aren't as many caster and still as many other imps siphoning off magic to feul their own lust for power, so you're only able to net +3 power today. Going to the front, you request for tomes relating to the Mortal World, the nature of Powr, and Magic. The Librarian, quite bored, sizes you up, likely using Power Meter to measure your strength, and says "Number thirty-two," and goes back to what he was doing. With the convenient number system, you head off to find number 32.

It's a treatise on on Hell's quest to gather Power. Power makes you stronger, causes you to metamorphos into greater manifestations of darkness, can be burned to +1 your stats, and fuels magics most foul. Power can be spent and is the currency of hell when raw labor isn't called for. MOst importantly, power is generated when humans sin and souls are stolen, and it is thus every Devil's job to pervert the mortal world. Even animals are on the menu, although humans are the race that Devils most prefer to contaminate.

Your reading is interrupted by a loud, booming, echo, welling up from beneath your feet from the deepest recesses of Hell, a horn. You feel yourself pulled to it, and without a second thought, you're off like a gunshot towards the source. You fly out of the House of Wisdom and down to the next lowest plane of hell, seeing the scenery change from a rockyplace to a disgusting, imp-knee deep pile of putrid waters where you see some squabbling forms in the distance... although they're of no interest, your attention is drawn to that noise. You're there with many other imps. There's an announcement by a very, very, big Devil in ornate armor. He's big, brawney, and has a long forked tongue that flicks out and nearly reaches his waste.

"Boys. It's time to talk about your Sin Quota."

TO BE CONTINUED.
