You are Princess Lydia Tannhäuser Von Cygnus Gates the third, second in line of succession to the throne, duchess of Tannhäuser, and executive director of the Royal Rocketry Corps of Midland.

You are currently attending the spring equinox ball in castle gates. The Meteor 2 and 3 missions have both landed safely and your Selene 3 probe is now safely in lunar orbit, you are celebrating the spring equinox as any lady of your station is expected to do.
Your dancing is however interrupted by a page descending from the radio room. He waits for a break between the dances before bowing to you and telling you that an urgent confidential message has arrived for you from Stonefield. He has no idea what it could possibly be about.

Also, What are you wearing to this event?
>We are wearing our RRC uniform
>We are wearing our Royal Gown.

It is now turn 7, you have 50 RnD points to spend, and 1 luck point remaining.

Haha you're unpopular and suck.

Let's buck tradition a little bit - we can still be the smart, formal, dignified princess in our RRC uniform. And it'll be so much easier to dance in than a ballgown.

For the moment, we need to go and investigate this message. Who is it from - the Royal Society, or our own engineers on the telescope?

You excuse yourself and head up to the radio room, hitching up your skirt to ascend the stairs without tripping. Once you have dismissed all the staff you enter your personal code into MVAC and decrypt the message.

It's a monochrome photograph of the dark side of the moon from Selene 3, the picture depicts an artificial looking structure sprawling radially across the surface like a city, or a fortress. It's surface appears to be scarred by meteorite impacts and it appears to be very old.

Okay, no panic. Who has seen this as of yet?
>>
>>26472459
Well. We will need to have two lunar missions, then; one on the light side that everyone can see, and a secret one for the dark side.
>>
>>26472459

Looks like it's uninhabited, so there's that. Who knows what treasures await!

>>26472580

And some way to bring some loot back.

Let's focus on the official mission; we can always simulate a problem and land half an orbit later. The real question is -- who to send?

We should NOT inform Jakisan yet, the potential for treasure is too high.
>>
>>26472459
See who send us the message; was it Smith or Minerva?

We must contact them through a coded MultiVAC message to discuss this.

>>26472687
>we can always simulate a problem and land half an orbit later.
We can't. We're skirting the mission parameters too closely and we can't afford a single delay or failure in the mission.
>>
>>26472715

We can claim that there was a problem, accidentally land on the far side of the Moon instead on the planned spot, and only release pictures of rocks.
>>
>>26472758

How about we dare the unthinkable and throw this wide open instead?
>>
>>26472537
Support this budget - we need to get the RTG tested, it'll be part of the moon mission if we want to do anything on the dark side, out of the area where the photovoltaic generator works. Although I'm not quite sure why we're taking a TV module up with us - we've got plenty of orbital photos already.

>>26472772
Ohhhh no. No no no. A person is smart, people are dumb panicky animals. We do *not* want to start mass panic across the entire nation. Or alternatively have everyone think we're a weird crazy princess who forged photos to get attention.

Also, we gave our word to the secret society of planets not to speak publicly about any of this. Is our word as a princess unimportant to you?
>>
>>26472577
Right now this information is only known to people who have been monitoring selene-3. Right now as far as you can tell Stonefield is the only radio telescope capable of receiving it's signals. You believe that the SSC is building there own radio telescope but are not sure if it is finished, or even aimed at the probe.

>We shall consult only with the RRCs high command and the RAS. Keep this a secret to everyone else.
>We shall inform the void knights of this.
>We shall publish this information publicly.
>>
>>26472758
It would be far better to have our second mission go to the far side of the moon.
Our first must succeed as planned. It is a matter of prestige, and the second mission will have a bonus to its rolls.

>>26472772
No. We gave our word that the secrets of space would be safe with us.
>>
>>26472815
Photovoltaic cells work on the dark side just as well as the light. The dark side is a misnomer, it is bathed in sunlight just as often as the light side is.

The only issue here is that a night on the moon lasts 14 days. So you will need either Fuel Cells (included in rations) or an RTG if you want to do something on the surface for any period of time longer than that.
>>
>>26472845
>We shall consult only with the RRCs high command and the RAS. Keep this a secret to everyone else.
We have our honor to uphold, as well as operational security, and not inciting mass panic.
>>
>>26472864
>you will need either Fuel Cells (included in rations)
Speaking of which, we should develop a Recycler Module.
It would really help on long trips to cut down on Rations we need to bring.
>>

Yes, sorry, lunar night is what I was thinking of, word fail rather than physics fail.

>>26472845
>We shall consult only with the RRCs high command and the RAS. Keep this a secret to everyone else.
We gave our word to preserve these secrets - we'll have to tell the people in a position to help keep things under wraps, but no-one else. ((We will have to tell the void-knights eventually, if we're going to send them on missions to this fortress place, but not yet.))
>>
>>26472845

We're going to inform our Void Knights. They must know as much of what they are facing as possible.

Oh, boy.
>>
>We shall consult only with the RRCs high command and the RAS. Keep this a secret to everyone else.

You lock yourself in the radio room with orders to not be disturbed and contact the Colonel back at Tannhauser Island.

"A hidden city on the moon. Well I'll be cursed..." You can only imagine the colonel's expression as he says this. "This definitely complicates things your highness. A lot more questions that need to be answered now.
If I can offer some suggestions, I'd tell you to put Project H, and anything else designed for the lunar surface, on hold right now and focus on a manned lunar flyby. That way we can test the Seraph and get a better idea of what we are up against, and we don't have to worry about a second launch site or in-orbit assembly."
>>
>>26473265

It might be useful, while we do that, to talk to Orion's mother. Howevr distorted by myth, they may know something.

"A wise course of action, Colonel. We also wish to hear your opinion of placing more radio satellites into lunar orbit, in order to ensure constant communication with any mission we send to the far side of the Moon.

God Mother, the Seraphim is currently being developed as one vehicle.
However, here you have it listed as two separate vehicles, the Lower Stage and the Upper Stage (which appear to actually be an Thruster part).
Will we need to develop the Seraph Upper Stage separately?
>>
>>26473556
>We'll have to put some stuff on the back burner
This is just for the fly-by mission.
Actually recovery is what's being put on the back burner.
>>
>>26473571
The lower stage and upper stage are separate parts. One is used to make maneuvers in space, and the other is used only for the launch step. No name has been suggested for the mass 10 upper stage so I have given it the same name as the mass 18 launch vehicle that carries it. The mass 5 Cherubim Upper stage also uses this naming convention, but the Hawtry void engine does not.

Hecate 6/10 for 8 RnD

Let's get started.

Thank you for the clarification, God Mother, but what are the ratings of the Seraphim Upper Stage?

>>26473895
Also, if we're putting the Hecate on the back burner, let's change this to:

8RP Build Trailblazer prototype ((since I believe >>26472537 didn't actually happen in the end?))
32RP Trailblazer 9/10
10RP EVA 17/20
>>
>>26472537
>>26473895
>>26474138
Consensus is required for budget.

The Following is required for a Lunar mission
>Seraph Launch Vehicle. (5/10) Prototype built, untested. Required for large lunar payloads. 18 points per level of improvement.
>Trailblaizer Capsule (5/10) Required for all manned lunar missions. 8 points to build or improve.
>Unnamed mass 10 upper stage, required for all large lunar payloads. 30 points to invent.
>Hecate Lander (5/10) Required for lunar landing, 8 points to build or improve.

A second launch location would also be handy for a manned landing as that would require two Seraph launches which ideally should happen on the same turn.
>>
>>26473895 here. I will be supporting Black Arrow's budget.

>second launch location.

...I guess we will have to visit Orion's mother. We definetly cannot share this with the suthlanders.
>>
>>26474277
We don't have to tell Orion's mother about this either, you know. We can just ask about the second launch site, much as we were planning to before.

In fact, telling Orion's mother is almost certainly a very, very bad idea. Didn't he say she worshipped the Foe Stars, or something like that? Telling her that we're going to try and investigate the (possible) home of her gods may not go down well.
>>
>>26474138
We will not be able to test the RTG, then.
As quickly as we need to do a manned lunar flyby, remember that we need to do an interplanetary probe, so we can get the budget bonus increase from it.
>>
>>26474333
I think they are smarter than that.
>>
>>26474277
Another option would be building a launch facility in the mountains near the southern border. This happens to be very close to House Cygnus's ancestral home, built by your namesake 500 years ago. Lydia Tannhauser Von Cygnus the first.

Both would probably have similar logistical hurdles. One is high in the mountains, and the other is a remote island. But The mountains are far enough from the equator that one extra burn would be required to get into Low Earth Orbit.
>>
>>26474333
Yes, Orion and his people worship the Foe Stars.
>>
>>26474415
The problem with building it in the mountains is that a third launch would need to be done to top off the fuels tanks after the lunar capsule is in orbit, since it otherwise would not have the fuel to make all of the burns.
>>
>>26474415
>on one hand: one extra burn
>on the other: no typhoon season

Choices, choices.
>>
>>26474504
It might be possible to re-work the plan to be slightly more efficient.

>>26474138
>8RP Build Trailblazer prototype
>32RP Trailblazer 9/10
>10RP EVA 17/20
Confirming budget updating wiki.

What shall you do now?
>We shall go back to Tannhauser island at once.
>We shall head east with Orion to visit his mother.
>We shall head south into the mountains to see about a possible second launch site at our mother's home.
>We shall head further south to meet with Ms Kenaway and try to find out if she possibly intercepted the lunar probe's signal and knows about the ruins.
>>
I suggest this budget:

Anonymous
08/06/13(Tue)17:02 No.26472537
Turn 7 Budget:
18RP RTG Test Mission
Meteor-3
1. Pilot
2. Engineer
3. RTG (already in Inventory)
4. TV Module (already in Inventory)
5. RCS
6. Empty
Cheribum Upper Stage
1. Launch Fuel
2. Orbital Insertion Fuel
3. De-Orbit Fuel
4. Empty
Cheribum Lower Stage

8RP Build Trailblazer Capsule
24RP Trailblazer 8/10

This is to test the RTG so that we can do the interplanetary probe and get the budget bonus.
>>
>>26474415
>one extra burn would be required to get into Low Earth Orbit.

Ah. Aren't all our calculations predicated on the Seraphim having *exactly* enough fuel to launch our missions, such as with the example Lunar Flyby mission detailed in >>26473522? Wouldn't that require developing an entirely new, even larger rocket, which would start out at 5/10 again, with a new, larger, upper stage, both of which would then have to be researched (at 3xMass) and developed up from scratch?
>>
>>26474588
>We shall head south into the mountains to see about a possible second launch site at our mother's home.
It is not an optimum location, however not being constrained by a typhoon season when time is limited outweighs the drawbacks.
>>
>>26474588
>We shall head further south to meet with Ms Kenaway and try to find out if she possibly intercepted the lunar probe's signal and knows about the ruins.

But we're going to have to discuss this *very, very* carefully. Even something like "did you spot anything interesting in our probe's transmissions" lets her know there's something interesting to find and could entice her to poke around and find out what. This is not "a cool find". This is a matter of national security and needs to be protected on the level of nuclear secrets.
>>
>>26474620
Or we do a refueling mission to top off the lunar vehicle while it is still in orbit.

>>26474631
Talking to Kenaway about this could tip her off that there's something valuable in the transmissions we don't want her to see. That's not what we want.
>>
>>26474620
You could also make the midstage (which has not been prototyped yet) larger and launch the capsules with a slightly smaller payload.
>>
>>26474680
Then why even ask? Unless you can ask her if she has a way to intercept our transmissions without raising her suspicions about what we found, we shouldn't risk it.
>>
I have a question, God Mother.

The various supplies that one might need to do archaeological work - lights, digging tools, portable generators, mapping equipment - will those count in the weight of the craft? If so, how? Independently? In bulk?
>>
>>26474732
She does have a radio telescope that may or may not have received the transmission. And she might also notice if you start encrypting further transmissions.
>>
>>26474732
Well, how about inquiring into the progress of her radio telescope? She wouldn't have any other way to intercept our transmissions, as far as we know. If the telescope isn't finished yet, obviously she hasn't found anything. ((And if she has found something, she's probably going to start interrogating us about it as soon as she lands. Jakison doesn't seem like the shy, retiring type.))
>>
>>26474768
They would count as Winches, carts, Mappers, and power sources. Most of them would weigh 1 mass. I'm considering having carts work like capsules with an internal capacity and dry mass.
>>
>>26474689
>We shall head south into the mountains to see about a possible second launch site at our mother's home.

Hmm, you're right. I guess I will change my vote then, and just hope for the best.

>We shall head further south to meet with Ms Kenaway and try to find out if she possibly intercepted the lunar probe's signal and knows about the ruins.

You call on Ms Kenaway and she is glad to invite you over to her ranch. "It's so nice to hear you highness. You have to meet my fiance, he just got back from orbit." She sounds excited as you make arrangements over the satellite unlink. "Also I have some things to ask you, I hope you don't mind if I sound too ungracious a host."

While a trip to the east would take a flying boat. Traveling south you have the luxury of riding on the Great Southern Raillway. As you approach the SSCs ranch, you see several tall white buildings on the horizon. Unlike Tanhauser island where everything is crammed into a tiny island, everything here is spread out. They manufacture there rockets vertically in a single tall building (unlike the horizontal workshop you use) and roll them directly onto the launchpad on railroad tracks (You use a barge).

You also notice what appears to be some large radio telescopes.
>>

>"Also I have some things to ask you, I hope you don't mind if I sound too ungracious a host."

Iiiiinteresting.

We must remember not to on any account bring up the lunar probe or any transmissions until Ms Kenaway does. Ask her about her fiance, her project, etc. - if she has in fact seen these pictures, she'll undoubtedly be asking us first.

The nature of these questions is no doubt related to recent discoveries.

Should we prepare a good cover story? A Natural formation, perhaps? We should have a few natural philosophers do what they did to us and forge a paper that would pre-preemptively explain away the seemingly artificial nature of the surface photos. And besides, a foray into how lunar geography is caused would not be a poor waste of time.

Obviously these explanations would not be used without some sort of leak of the pictures or information (which we shouldn't delude ourselves to think will be hidden forever). If someone asks, this is our answer. And its swiftness and thoroughness will be enough for the public and most inquisitive professionals, just like the earlier false paper was.

Pic 100% related. Not that I think it's real.

Ms. Kenaway is as friendly a rival as anyone could ask for and she might be trusted to keep the secret for us, but we are not to tell her without the Council's permission. Which we should ask for at the next opportunity.

Sadly the ruins are much more obvious than a few hills that happen to look like a face if you squint. Too many right angles to be natural landforms and all. You are better off not publishing the images and convincing anybody else to keep quiet than you are convincing people that it's not man (or alien) made.

Ms Kenaway is waiting for you as you step off the train (which conveniently runs right through the ranch). Standing next to her is a tall elegantly dressed man with a short fro and glasses, and standing behind the pair is a short white girl with blond hair and blue eyes, she looks somewhat shy.

Erosion, combined with they way rocks fracture, can produce interesting formations. I would personally have attributed the formation to an ancient volcano peak and various volcano tubes which produced mesas after solar wind eroded the softer ash and rock away billions of years ago. All you have to do is say have experts say "it's coincidence that" and "Pareidolia" enough times and laugh at anyone who disagrees. Acedemia unfortunately often delves into dogma like that. It's not like what I suggested isn't without precedent.

But like I said before, the GM affirmed that kind of coverup to be disbelieved by the public and so it is.

"We are only just now experimenting with long-term habitation in the void and how it affects the human body. Most interesting; your bodily humors were not adversely affected?"

>>26477156
"That's certainly a vital interest to have. Do you think that the human body can mitigate the negative effects of the void on its own through training, endurance, and the right breeding; or do you think it will be technology alone that allows us to overcome our shortcomings?"

Question regards worldview.
>>
>>26477235
"My vital humors were not adversely effected, although my muscles and bones did atrophy and decay. It is only recently that I have regained the strength to walk without a cane. It seems my body is now re-adapting to the earth's gravity. I do however wonder what kind of effect the cosmic waves of space might have on the on the Genomolecules of my body. The MK is still within the earth's magnetic field and protected from the harmful waves." He explains this as he holds his hand out in front of him and gazes at the palm, as if trying to observe the imperceptible structures within his body.

"Well all void travelers naturally undergo training to withstand these effects, but I think mankind is built for life on earth. If we are to truly conquer space, we will need a new race of man better adapted for it's hardships." He answers your question before Ms Kenaway's giggling interrupts him "Maybe I should be jealous you are getting along so well with my Fiance." She says, trying to change the subject to one she is more knowledgeable in. "He's been able to improve the life support systems of the Heaven Village. But we've been working on other things too." She points to the radio telescope's on the horizon.
>>
>>26477680
"Ah yes, your radio-telescope. Is it complete?
"We ourselves have been attempting to find other places to construct more, but with the unrest in the West, acquiring global coverage has been most bothersome."
>>
>>26477872
"Would it be presumptive to us to put forward the idea of an international aerospace congress to discuss cooperation between our separate national space programs?

As our programs mature, we shall set our sights on goals far greater than our individual capabilities; requiring new laws, treaties, standardizations, and an impartial international court to act as legislature, enforcer, and judiciary for such matters.
This is not a new idea, but rather than a mandate to force ideology or hegemony on its members, it would only focus itself on the void and the safety and success of those who journey there. Much of the void cannot be claimed with flags, forts, or garrisons; so the means by which nations assert themselves fail. If humanity is to succeed, we must view space as requiring not only a 'new breed of men,' but also a new breed of government to represent their interests and unique needs."

This is probably best saved for conversation at dinner.

"It's not finished yet, but we have already been able to track your lunar probe. You seem to have encrypted the messages though." Ms Kenaway explains as she leads you to the Ranch's admin buildings. "Anyways, I wanted to ask you something. Would you mind if I bought a Meteor 3 from Mr Harker? We could really use on on the Heaven Village." She quickly changes the subject after letting slip that she's intercepted the Lunar probe's un-encrypted transmissions.
>>
>>26477680

"Oh ho, so we take it that the telescope is ready? Prey tell, what interesting things have you discovered? Ours have not been very useful, yet."
>>
>>26478541

"Spying on others is not nice, such shameful display. Maybe we should take that in consideration in our next businesses? What sort of things have you discovered from doing that, hm? "

>spying
>unencrypted transmission

Anyone who is listening into the frequency could hear it. I bet ham radio operators heard it too. And besides. We've listened to their transmissions before.

Ms. Kenaway ain't the Soviets. She can't know bout he aliens, but we shouldn't act hostile. If it gives her any advantage, then that's our fault.
>>
>>26478536
Yes it is presumptuous and runs counter to everything that we have done. Stay silent with your unneeded and unwanted ideas.
>>
>>26478541
"We do not see any need to keep the Meteor-3 design an exclusive Midland product. We are sure that we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.
"But if your radio-telescope is already able to pick up lunar transmissions, surely you've been able to find something of interest."

>>26478705
>Anyone who is listening into the frequency could hear it.
Actually, no. They would need a radio-telescope, because the signal would be too weak to pick up otherwise.
>>
>>26478705
The RRC ans the SSC are the only organizations that can pick up signals from the lunar probes, Ham Radio isn't powerful enough to pick up the lunar probe's signal, but it was un-encrypted and therefore open to anybody.

"Oh, The same things you see I guess." She winks. "I was just wondering why you suddenly started to Encrypt it. I guess you want me to make my own probe, You so competitive some times is scary.
Anyways, Right now the Heaven Village uses a, not sure what to call in your language, Kijumbamshale space capsule for emergencies. But it only hold two people. If we had an Meteor we could have three times as many crew safely." She says as you walk past the first Kijumbamshale standing on display outside the admin building. You seem to recall hearing from Klaus the Kijumbamshale refers to a species of southern Swallow.

Oh, I'm sorry. I was just trying to set up a meeting place where we could discuss space laws. Do things like avoid Kessler Syndrome. International Space program some time in future. Decide who exactly owns the moon and how we can avoid fighting a war over it.

None of that is discussed now, it is discussed later by diplomats.

Here's a more concise way to put it.
I want a place where we can do this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_law
Does Kenaway agree?

Is that presumptuous?
>>
>>26478967
It's wholly unnecessary as we are the commander of XCOM and maritime laws and our own relationship with Kenaway is sufficient.

Okay. When Kenaway's space program reaches a stage when it might become profitable (lunar mining, let's say), just watch as things are snatched away from her or governments and/or corporations do as they please with consequences that our efforts quite negatively. Let's have space junk run amok. That will be super to clean up and a good use of our time.

A Princess answers only to the King (and, at times, certain government officials), but Kenaway's position is different and she will be faced with events she won't be in control of.

And then of course there is the lovely country of Nordhiem. If the basic laws are set up early, then they won't be able to make demands. Wait too late, and they get in a position to make demands.

But go ahead. Don't take the opportunity to write laws in your favor while you have a friendly rival. Wait for it to become a problem before doing something about it with apathetic and self-serving oligarchs. That'll be fun.
>>
>>26479211
The Nords are forbidden from building rockets or Radio reactive technology. A bigger problem might be the west however.

Anyways, if you want to ask Ms Kenaway a question, just drop the sage, use your royal We, and ask her in character.
>>
>>26479245
"Ms. Kenaway, your radio-teliscope brings to mind something we have been meaning to ask you: would you agree to the establishment of an annual congress that would act as an international legislative body for the regulation and governance of the void. Through it, we hope, that we might preempt a state of anarchy that might exist when travel to the void is less exploratory in nature and more commercialized.
We put up a handful of satellites now, but as the practice grows with new uses and participants, it might balloon out of ours and your control. This is but one example of how such a legislative body will benefit the safety and success rate of our current missions and future missions. Other matters might include ownership of planetary bodies, standardization of procedures, and cooperative projects that will allow us to pool resources for a common goal."

Better? I just want stability that lasts beyond the current paradigm. Isn't that what laws do?
>>
>>26478948

"Well, yes. You see, there are unpleasantries in being in the military. We have experienced attempts of sabotage (but please, tell no one). We believe the western dissenters are involved in it. Thus, we are taking precautions against possible future attempts.

Unfortunatly, that includes our transmissions as well."
>>
>>26478967
>Decide who exactly owns the moon and how we can avoid fighting a war over it.

It's simple. WHoever gets there first, claims the entire moon for their country.
>>
>>26479519

I'd rather avoid making laws without taking the moon over first.
>>
>>26479869
"I see." She doesn't seem too convinced and you get the feeling she knows more than she is letting on. "Do you not trust us then?"

>>26479519
"Well that's what the SSC is, at least for the southern states. None of them are allowed to lay claim on space, and must share it with the rest. I think we would have to come up with a new name if we merged our organizations however." She replies to your inquiry. "Think for now just sharing some technology would be best. We want to buy a Meteor from mr Harker, but we could also trade technology we have developed on the Heaven Village. Would you trade you automatic computers and television cameras for our life support systems?"
>>
>>26480150

"We may be royalty, but the RCC is a military organization, and as such, I have superiors to answer to, besides our Majesty. Superior who wanted to develop new weapons and bombs to 'pacify' the West. It is not a matter of trust between us two, ms Kenaway, but it is a matter of trust between mentioned superior and everyone else. We are afraid we cannot say anymore of the subject."

"While the Meteor shouldn't be a problem to trade, we cannot hand out the specifics of our computers."
>>
>>26480496

Also, someone pelase come up with a better write-in than mine.

And do we want/need the technologies she is offering?
>>
>>26480513
She is offering Recycler and Habitat.
Recycler takes up 1 mass and lets each void knight consume half a ration per turn instead of a whole ration. On a lunar mission this would save 1 mass. Not necessary, but nice to have.
Habitat is a capsule that cannot make re-entry or land on planets, but has less harsh faillure conditions, and can allow for it's crew to regain lost stamina in space.

And you could offer her MVAC without giving her your encryption keys. Part of the benefit of a universal computation is the underlying hardware reveals nothing about the system architecture. In fact you could sell MVACs on the mass market if they were cheaper. You might run into bandwidth issues if you did that however.

"We did not mean a merger of our organization, simply an international diplomatic conference hosted and participated by our organizations and attended by relevant diplomats, astrologers, and engineers. Our proposal had at its heart the preservation of the sovereignty of those involved. Much like how naval law is handled, at least between honorable countries.

But you feel it best shelved, no matter. We are always open to discussing cooperation."

"As for the technology trade, we feel the scales a touch unbalanced. Is there anything small you can offer us to balance it out? It really is nearly fair, I assure you. Perhaps permission to build a radio-telescope of our own here? Funded and staffed by us, of course. That attempt at balancing is certainly not the only one. Again, the scales as it stands are uneven by just a touch."
>>
>>26480586
>>26480589
Computers and television modules are the two things that the SSC needs in order to be able to launch their own lunar probes.

Trading them that technology is tantamount to giving them access to photographic evidence of the city on the far side of the moon.

They must not be traded.
>>
>>26480150
"Unfortunately, Ms. Kenaway, while we may trust you, we cannot be so open with everyone.
"We are sorry, but automatic computers and television technology are currently not something that we can trade for."
>>
>>26481662
You make an excellent point.
>>
>>26481662
MVAC and unmanned probes are separate things now. The SSC already has the latter and does not need the former to send probes to the moon, the lack of powerful rockets and long range engines is there biggest obstacle right now.

>>26481768
Ms Kenaway frowns a bit. "What's going on you highness. You've been acting strangely lately. What is the word? Paranoid? Is it the west, or the sabotage? or something else?" She tries a different approach.
>>
>>26482211

"I'd like to tell you but I'll need to talk to parliament before we officially trade anything. After all the RRC doesn't belong truly to me but the people of Midland."
>>
>>26482211
"To be honest, both. The sabotage of our radio telescope resulted in the loss of Selene-1, and our investigations showed that the person responsible fled to the West, where sentiments against us are high. We are sorry for not being as open as before; call it a price of the times that we live in.
"But other than that, what are your plans for your radio-telescope? Will you also be attempting full global coverage?"
>>
>>26482436
He didn't flee, he was deployed to a garrison in the west.

"We would like to get that, but we don't have so many overseas colonies like you country does. Perhaps we should share, you build one in the east and we can use each others telescopes." Ms Kenaway proposes.
>>
>>26482896
"We shall think upon it. As well, we would need to negotiate with Queen Taurus of the Eastern Isles to build a radio-telescope on an island protected from the typhoon season."

A joint radio-telescope program would have the problem of the SSC getting access to our lunar transmissions and possible leaks about the Foe Stars.
>>
>>26483019
Sharing infrastructure does not share intelligence, You can encrypt the data so it can only be read by people with the right codes. Cracking said codes would take a million MVACs working together a Million years to solve.

And she'll have her own lunar probe eventually anyways. Not sharing might slow her down a bit but it won't give you an absolute advantage or stop her completely.
>>
>>26483129
>Sharing infrastructure does not share intelligence,
But won't she be suspicious of where our radio-telescopes are pointing, and when we don't tell her about the Foe Stars when they appear?
>>
>>26483186
There is one advantage that you have that she doesn't. Namely the equator.

None of the SSC's facilities are far north enough to see pole stars. Even Tarus' island would have the north pole as a blind spot.

Now, if there are any foe stars in the southern hemisphere, you'll need a new telescope to see them.
>>
>>26483224
That still leaves the problem of Kenaway questioning why we would need to encrypt all of our communications from the moon.
But since she can already see that with her own radio-telescope, it may be for the best to agree to a joint radio-telescope operation.

Where is her radio-telescope located?
Is it covering the same quadrant of the planet as the Stonefield Array?
>>
>>26483365
It's a similar longitude but opposite latitude.
>>
>>26483440
So that's a no?
We still need 2 radio-telescopes to the west (West and Far West) and one to the Far East?
>>
>>26477156
>is a Zoalchemist from Skaggar
Stop right there criminal scum

Obviusly a nord spy who seduced Kenaway, so that nords can keep hands on SCC Space program.
>>
>>26483476
You will need at least three telescopes to cover the sky completely, One to the east, one to the west, and one in the southern and northern hemispheres.

Stone field is north and central. The SSC is south and central, Taurus' island is south and eastern, The western islands are north and western.

And it's late now. So I'm going to go to bed. Thank you for 114 replies. I am not sure if I will be running next Friday because I will be traveling. I'll see what I can do.
