You can no longer stand by as the Night-Prowler judge begins to beat the witness senseless.

You bring up your hand and deflect Ebon-Claw's next blow.

"You won't find out much by killing him," you say.

Ebon-Claw grunts, and casually throws the guard against the wall. He shouts an order to the nearby guards. "Throw him in the cells. Find out how this happened." The guards obey, and approach the unconscious guard, slumped against the wall.

Ebon-Claw turns to you, and is about to say something, when a loud cheer erupts from below. You look to the ring. Sharp-Strike has pinned Dark-Spike to the ground, and has both his opponent's arms locked down tight. It looks like a solid victory for Sharp-Strike. Suddenly, Dark-Spike's voice booms across the arena, as he holds up something between his fingers.

"Cheat! He's a cheat!"

You look to the judges. "Have them both arrested and thrown in cells," Ebon-Claw orders.

Do you:

A. Appeal to the rest of the judges, and question the need to arrest Sharp-Strike when it's clear Dark-Spike is the cheater.
B. Appeal to the judges to sponsor a trial now, with the evidence present.
C. Demand that the judges clear Sharp-Strike's name right now, in order to not sully his honor.

C. Remind them we have the recording. Who knows, we could have already sent the data somewhere else in case we were arrested.

Plus, we must adopt the persona of his true mentor, so we obviously must care a lot about sharp strike's honor.

>>C. Demand that the judges clear Sharp-Strike's name right now, in order to not sully his honor.

You strongly voice your concerns, and remind them that if such blatant acts of dishonor are not immediately addressed, grevious harm will be brought upon the spirit of competition.

Ebon-Claw's face begins to pale. He looks to the other judges, and you detect a faint gesture of approval from another Night-Prowler judge.

Ebon-Claw growls and stares at you in barely contained anger, but at last relents.

"In light of clear evidence," he announces to the audience, "Dark-Spike is guilty of sabotage and violating the sportsmanship rules of the games."

He clears his throat. "Arrest him, and award the win to Sharp-Strike," he adds.

He suddenly turns to you. "Make no mistake. There will be an investigation." He turns to his fellow judges. "If you'll excuse me, I have an interrogation session to attend."

Do you:

A. Ask for permission to join the investigation.
B. Attempt to slip a transmitter under the judge's table.

On the other hand, I feel bad about condemning the man we interrogated earlier to certain death... or worse.

Of course, the mission comes first, and he was complicit in this sabotage, but I can't shake the feeling he was doing so almost unwillingly.

Who was chasing him earlier?
>>
>>26462466
>>B. Attempt to slip a transmitter under the judge's table.

You look over the railing and watch as several guards haul a very confused Dark-Spike from the ring.

Sharp-Strike, a bit dazed but nonetheless looking quite pleased with himself, returns to his seat.

You begin to walk away, but as you do, you palm a transmitter and deliberately bump into the judge's table behind you. You steady yourself and furtively stick the transmitter to the bottom of the table.

You bid the judges goodbye and return to your seat.

You watch a few more matches between young warriors without much excitement, and leave with the crowd once the day's competition comes to an end. Along the way, you fill Sharp-Strike in on the day's events.

As you walk back to your barracks, you see Burning-Scythe waiting for you. He waves a cylindrical device in the air.

"Black market. Set of decryption codes for low-level Night-Prowler security. Lets us play with the transmitter. So how do you want to do this?"

Do you answer:

A. "Let's take the transmitters out of the badges and shove them under the bed."
B. "Let's try to modify the transmitter to broadcast a fake location"
C. "Let's take out the transmitter and attach them to one of these drone mines."

"Let's try to modify the transmitter to broadcast a fake location," you suggest.

"Right, Give them here."

You and Sharp-Strike hand over your badges. After a few moments of tinkering, the transmitters are modified to broadcast your barracks as their location, no matter where you are.

"Where's Ashen-Blade?"

"Scouting the Hall of Ceremonies, and tailing Death-Gifter. I was supposed to cover for him, so I'll need to get back to the market before they notice my absence. Good luck."

Sharp-Strike asks you for your next move.

Do you:

A. Join Ashen-Blade at the Hall of Ceremonies and see what Death-Gifter is up to.
B. Go to Death-Gifter's house while he's absent and see what you can find.

"We know for certain Death-Gifter is away tonight. Let's go to his house and see what we can find."

Sharp-Strike agrees.

Carefully, the two of you sneak off of arena grounds and into the city proper. The city itself seem deserted. You notice several guard patrols ambling back and forth in the night.

Taking care not to be spotted, you and Sharp-Strike slowly make your way to the high residential area. You cross-reference the various houses with your map, and identify the one belonging to Death-Gifter.

It stands out from its peers as a large, cubic building without windows or viewports, and the walls are covered by carefully carved runes. It doesn't seem to be guarded from the outside.

Do you:

A. Have Sharp-Strike on look-out from a distance while you approach the house.
B. Remain on look-out while Sharp-Strike investigates up close.
C. Have both of you investigate the house from up close.

>>A. Have Sharp-Strike on look-out from a distance while you approach the house.

You motion Sharp-Strike to stay where he is and keep a look out.

You approach the house slowly while carefully scanning for cameras or hidden security measures around you.

You slowly make a full perimeter around the house and find out the following.

There are two entrances. The front door is sealed with a biometric lock,

The rear door is sealed with no obvious external locking mechanism.

There are two vent ports on the second floor, but they seem to be sealed and out of your reach.

You see no other obvious entrances.

You carefully study the wall. It seems to be metallic. You'll need to get the transmitter inside if you hope to pick up anything.

What do you wish to do?

A. Study the front door and its biometric lock.
B. Study the rear door and see if you can find a way to open it.
C. Look up and see if you can find a way to reach the vents.

C
>>
>>26463396
>C.
We got them drones, right?
>>
>>26463416
>>C. Look up and see if you can find a way to reach the vents.

You peer up and examine one of the vents above you.

It seems wide enough to accommodate your size, but the trick is getting up there. The wall is hard and dense, and there doesn't seem to be any easy way to climb it.

You look around, and decide that if you could climb onto the roof of the nearby house, you may be able to leap and grab the edge of the vent. But such an action is likely to be loud.

You look down and thumb one of your drone mines. The small remote controlled metal spider should be able to climb without effort, but it won't be able to enter the vent unless you somehow manage to remove the covering.

After some deliberation, you:

A. Climb the nearby house and attempt a leap.
B. Have your drone climb up to the vent cover and see if you can find some way of removing it.
D. Leave the vent alone and investigate one of the doors.
>>
>>26463396
B. We can't afford to be noticed.

>B. Have your drone climb up to the vent cover and see if you can find some way of removing it.

Although, that'll be too loud.

Perhaps even just a rock, or a throwing knife. Three-Claw is resourceful. He will find something.
>>
>>26463527
D

>>26463577
>>B. Have your drone climb up to the vent cover and see if you can find some way of removing it.

You set one of the drones down and control it remotely from your wrist computer. You activate the suite of cameraa on the drone body and verify the feed. Once everything is setup, you send the drone on its way. It crawls up the wall effortlessly on its four thin legs. It reaches the vent.

You carefully examine the vent cover. It seems to be plasticene, with small holes to filter air through and presumably pests out. You stick one of the drone's legs through a nearby hole and give it a jitter. It doesn't seem to be bolted on tight, but removing it is beyond the strength of the small drone. The drone's legs, however, are sharp enough that you may be able to use them to enlarge one of holes to allow the drone to slip through. You peer inside, and notice the vent actually curves upwards, indicating a possible second entrance along the roof.

Do you:

A. Attempt to use the drone's metallic legs to file away at one of the air holes to make it bigger.
B. Have the drone scout out the roof.
C. Retrieve the drone and think of something else.
>>
>>26463722
B
>>
>>26463722
>B. Have the drone scout out the roof.
Oh yeah. I can initiate the different plan I had in mind when the grappling hook option just came to mind.
>>
>>26463722
Already voted for B, but as a follow up we should back away from the building, and hide. Our drone can explore at will, and we avoid any troubles with patrols.
>>
>>26463722
B.

If the vent vents upwards, the dwarf won't have to fight against gravity while breaking through the vent, so let's go up there.
>>
>>26463755
I agree.
>>
>>26463755
B Also seconding this no need to be out in the open if we are using the drone.
>>
>>26463740
>>B. Have the drone scout out the roof.

You motion the small drone further up the wall until it reaches the roof.

As precaution, you carefully secret yourself away into a tight alley between two neighboring houses, in order to better keep yourself out of sight.

The roof is perfeclty flat, with the exception of one square opening. This opening is far smaller than the one on the side of the building, but is large enough to accodate the drone. This one seems to be covered as well by a metallic plate, but you notice this one may be slid open.

You nudge the drone against the edge of the small plate, and slide it open. You peer inside. It seems to lead into the main ventilation system. You drop the drone down the small shaft. You find yourself inside the ventilation system.

Do you:

A. Direct the drone to the side vent cover and see if there's a way to open it from the inside.
B. Direct the drone along the vent and see if you can find a way into the house.
>>26463740
>>B. Have the drone scout out the roof.
>>
>>26463859
>B. Direct the drone along the vent and see if you can find a way into the house.
The closer the entrance is to Death-Gifter's room, the better.
>>
>>26463859
B

By the way, can the drone be traced back to us or our clan if it is discovered?
>>
>>26463859
B. We can't jump up without making a racket anyway.
>>
>>26463898
>By the way, can the drone be traced back to us or our clan if it is discovered?

The drone doesn't have any clan markings on it, but with enough scrutiny, it may provide clues.

There's always the option of detonating it remotely, though.
>>
>>26463898
You move the drone inwards, along the ventilation shafts.

Several more air filters block your path, but you manage to squeeze the drone through the corner of a cracked filtration plate to reach the main hall on the first floor.

You carefully crawl the drone along the hall's walls and survey the surroundings.

Most doors seem to be simply closed rather than locked, with two exceptions - the door leading to the armory and the private study.

You make your way to the front door and study it. There seems to be a control panel which allows you open it from the inside, but it will require some delicate key presses with the drone's thin legs. The rear door, on the other hand, is locked by a mechanical bar whcih only requires you to nudge the handle loose, but you notice a small sensor on the bar itself which triggers some unknown mechanism upon release.

Do you:

A. Carefully attempt to open the front door from the inside. (DC: Medium)
B. Hit the handle and pop open the rear door.
C. Return to the vent and attempt to work on loosing one of the side vent covers.
>>
>>26464007

I'm not liking the sensor on the back door. I think A is safer, and with a great reward.

>>
>>26464051

You carefully position the drone above the front door's control panel and carefully manipulate its legs to work the keys.

Rather than simply controlling the front door, the panel also controls several other aspects of the house's security system, and as such, you'll need to take care not to trigger anything else by accident.

After several minutes of carefully manipulating the drone controls, you manage to navigate through the interface and unlock the front door. You quickly make your way to the front, slide the door open just enough to let you through, and close it behind you.

You're now inside Death-Gifter's house. You quickly retrieve your drone and return it to your belt.

Do you:

A. Take a tour around the house and search for anything interesting, along with the proper spot to plant your transmitter.
B. Stick the transmitter somewhere inconspicuous near the entrance and quickly leave.

You carefully navigate your way around the house. You make your way through the entrance hall to a small waiting room to the eating area and then back around a spacious training area with the latest holo-tech.

Two rooms remain locked behind secure doors, however, with those two being the armory and Death-Gifter's private study.

Though the rooms seem to be fairly mundane in sparse decoration and furniture, several things catch your eye.

There's a small comm computer in the training room, which Death-Gifter no doubt uses for talking while working out.

Several thick cables encased in decorative plaster run along the walls of the waiting room, disappearing into the ceiling, presumably into the private study. You recognize the thick cables - you've seen them used for large comm devices for getting signals off-planet to the orbital relay stations and nearby ships.

A data chip lies on top of the dining table.

Do you:

A. Investigate the comms computer in the training room.

You rise. Suddenly, your wrist-computer lights up with a message from Sharp-Strike.

"Two figures. Approaching house from front. On foot. ETA 6 Minutes."

Do you:

A. Grab the data chip and leave.
B. Leave the data chip and leave.

Deciding not the press your luck, you quickly make your way to the front door and exit the house.

You turn the corner quickly, making for cover provided by the nearby houses. You control your breathing and track the two sets of footsteps. You hear them move past, and enter Death-Gifter's house. Once clear, you make your way back to Sharp-Strike.

You take a moment to check the status of your transmitter. It seems to be working.

You look up. You still have many hours of night left.

Do you:

A. Contact Ashen-Blade and ask for his status.

You turn to Sharp-Strike. "Those two figures - did one of them look like Death-Gifter?"

"Possibly. Sorry, didn't get a good look. Neither of them were in uniform though, and both were definately male."

You say to Ashen-Blade, "Need a hand?"

"Not sure. Too much security. More eyes would help, though."

He responds, "Good luck. Recording everything at the meeting. Can't make out much, but may find out more after analysis."

You gesture to Sharp-Strike, and the pair of you move on.

Fortunately, the remaining residences are more conventional in construction, and you're able to secret transmitters through various openings and crevices rather easily.

You finish your work, and decide to head back to the barracks before they notice you're missing.
