Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can stop your plans early.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When I roll 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Recent Events Summary:

Abigail's entrance into the Archonium was sudden, and not what you expected. She lost herself somewhere within the enchanted gateway, stuck between bits of her personality given life and pitted against one another. With no other recourse, you dived in after her.

The archonium transported you to the deep recesses of your own mind. You met with the elf queen, Ellendra Kalladar, your Humanity, and your Temerity. Queen Kalladar informed you that you were, in fact, Erebus. She split you before you could fully recover in order to give you what she termed a "choice", and informed you that the elements were an illusion. Fundamentally, there is only Order, and Chaos.

Your Humanity is something new that has coalesced inside you over time, thanks to the opportunity she granted you. Ultimately, you joined forces with it to defeat and reign in your Temerity, who has grudgingly accepted your dominance.

You managed to escape your own visions, and Humanity directed you to Abigail's location within the vast dark of the Archonium that lies between the gateways. Within her vision, 11 long years have passed. In a strange world in which she was the only source of magic, she united warring clans of monsters and beasts and ruled over them as empress. However, after forming that empire, her personality split in three, and have since been locked in an uneasy stalemate.

Two of the three sides of Abigail have been reunited. You have cornered the third in her fortress, where she seems to have prepared some sort of powerful magic. Abigail encourages you to watch her back so she can focus on her own battle, and you step up to defend her position.

>Last time...

It takes you nearly a minute to trek down the vast, cavernous hall. Eventually, you reach the tall, thin doors at their end. Abigail throws them open.

Inside, the cavern narrows off and ends. The back wall looks more like a an ancient temple than the foundation of a fortress. Giant crystals scattered through the room glow blood red with magic.

The Banshee is studying one of the crystals carefully. Her hands are tapping and touching it, as if manipulating something.

"...what exactly are you planning with all this?" Abigail asks.

The Banshee slowly turns. "Our ascension."

"I don't remember wanting to ascend."

"I do."

"We will rejoin, now," Abigail says. It's a statement, but there's a slight question in the words.

"We will," the Banshee says. "But it will be on my terms." Her nails thicken into claws and begin to glow the same red as the crystals.

Abigail lifts her staff free with one hand and draws her sword with the other. "...we don't have to fight."

"Don't patronize me." The banshee gestures to the largest central crystal. "This isn't for show. You'll learn soon enough."

A howling from the hall behind you draws your attention. It's easy to sense what's coming. <...summons,> you say. <A lot of them.>

"This is my fight, Shadow," Abigail says. She doesn't take her gaze off the Banshee. "And I will win. But it would probably help if you kept that hall secure."

You order your wisp to tuck itself away and keep an eye on things. <I'll watch your back,> you tell Abigail.

<Thank you.>

"I wish I could do more, but I need my focus forward."

<You've done enough. More than enough. I know you can do this, Abby. Good luck.>

As you turn away, you see the corner of a smile on Abigail's face.

You step into the hallway.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw_mUVxIPfs

The howls you heard now have owners. A horde of monsters is coming your way - two dragons, and sprinting between their feet, a mix of ghouls and black hounds. A huge golem made of Shadows stomps behind the dragons. The air is filled with harpies and crow demons, sword-wielding revenants, and scythe-wielding reapers - and that just looks like the first wave of this mess, if your senses are accurate.

This could be challenging.

You stand alone, a small shadow before the door leading to the room behind you.

What do you do?

Shadow Hounds x 4

You gather you mana and push it into the air around you. A frothing blast of water grows, then splashes down over the cave, turning the lose soil into a wet, thick mud. The flying monsters and lighter creatures like the ghouls and hounds are not much slowed, but the dragons are suddenly bogged down, growing and struggling to get their feet out. Oddly, the Shadow Golem slides over the mud without trouble...but it's already slow moving anyway.

Your Earthforge calls the stone forward. Walls and pillars of rock erupt from the ceiling and floor, growing, twisting. The spell slips from your grasp slightly, and you don't quite form a funnel with your structures - but at the least, the flying creatures are ducking and diving to get out of the way. They're split up, and there's a maze of hiding places. The section of the room directly around the door where you stand remains relatively clear. To your dismay, the reapers are able to soar straight through the physical walls.

They don't reach you first, though - the ravenous ghouls do. You haven't seen such creatures in a long time - but you remember the trouble they gave you and Flint early in your journey. You reach for more magic...

>mana: 33/48

You happily devour 5 of them as they rush you bodily. Your open maw becomes a churning ate, and they leap in without a second thought. You've erased five before they know what hit them, and you munch down two of the shadowy hounds, as well.

You try to turn yourself toward more enemies, but the last two hounds have you pinned in a pincer attack. With your magic active, you can't react in time for both. You manage to get your third hound, but the last chomps down on your backside and tears as hard as it can.

In moments, the other six ghouls are on you, ripping and tearing. Your aura struggles to deflect so many foes. You shield yourself with your limbs.

You leap in the air. You widen your maw, and spin the magic within you once again. You come down on the head of the last shadow hound, consuming it.

The ghouls, however, were more clever than you realized. They predicted your landing and leapt upon you as one as soon as you hit the ground. You tear and slash at them, clawing to get them off your back. They are endlessly determined, running back to attack you despite missing a leg or an arm of even half their head. Eventually, you're able to rip them to small enough pieces that they stopped moving.

You briefly consider trying to consume them, but the ghostly apparitions are upon you. The revenants glide across the ground at high speed, swords ready. One reaper each comes in from above you to your left and right. An attack from three sides.

Meanwhile, the dragons have finally gotten unstuck. They're still slowed, but they crash through your earthforged maze without much trouble. The Shadow golem is still picking its ponderous way along, but it's moments until the harpies and crows descend.

You hear several ugly roars. Three flesh golems are plunging through the deep mud behind the dragons, trying to join the fray.

Cone of destruction lets us nuke the Revanents and scatter the rest of the damage unto the other summons, plus it adds another close-range magic option, and we usually fight close range.

If you don't move back you won't be able to catch every enemy in the blast zone; it's a cone, not a half-circle. They're coming at you from the front, left, and right. I assume targeting them all is more important than the extreme close range bonus?

You pour your untapped energy into your magic. You need something stronger. More powerful.

>mana: 24/48

A conical explosion of shadow blasts out from your form. One revenant is caught straight on, and disintegrates. The other loses an arm and a leg, and falls prone. Its flesh writhes, slowly regenerating, but it isn't going anywhere fast.

One of the reapers loses its arm, and drops its scythe. It dives away from you, and vanishes. You see it reappear and fly into your earthen maze to recover.

The tail end of the blast catches two crow demons slow enough to get caught. They're ripped in half, and turn to dust.

The final reaper managed to dodge your magic entirely. It raises its scythe high.

I don't think that people here are getting how the rolls in SQ work. There is a set DC, and for something to be successful two of the three rolls have to surpass the DC. Unless of course there's a crit, or even better; a supercrit.

>Hunger - Normal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA2lx7vkCL4

You unleash multishade!

>mana: 21/48

Silence's power answers your call. The number of shades you create doubles from four, to eight. They explode out from you in every direction, most heading for the flying summons. One heads straight at the repear, which, confused, swipes early. You run in the opposite direction as the summons battle your illusions.

You fall over the reaper. Hunger's power aches for its soul. It never had a chance. You devour it.

Hunger is not satisfied. It leads you by your senses to the hiding place of the reaper. You peer down from the top of a boulder. The cowled, ghostly skeleton is huddled under an alcove, cradling a regrowing stump.

You slowly edge yourself forward, Inking along the top and then down inside and behind the reaper.

It pauses, then glances over its shoulder. It stares into your open jaws.

You envelop it. You can feel it struggle slightly. And then it starts to dissolve, and it stops struggling.

>you've gained 4 EXP (22 total)
>you've gained 2 health (76/81)
>you've gained 3 mana (24/48)

Your shades are still managing to confuse the crows and harpies, though the reaper is now ignoring the illusions and actively hunting you. The shadow golem has finally reached the area, and will be at the battle in a few moments. The dragons are just behind, and they're tearing through the earthforged walls, carving a clear path for the flesh golems.

What do you do?

>slow down the big guys in back with magic
>focus on the small ones closer to you. Clear the deck.

This.

Just because we have a ton of xp doesn't mean we have to buy stuff.
>>
You need a chance to clean up the area in front of the door before the dragons reach you. You focus your magic into the walls you made and Harden them.

>used 3 mana
>+1 mana from regen
>22/48

Your walls take on a shiny gleam as the earth morphs, melts, and binds to itself. The fire dragon brings its massive paw forward, and promptly breaks its claws off on a pillar of rock. Its roar of pain fills the cavern. They being clambering through the tangle, but that's even slower than what they were doing before. Their progress grinds to a slow crawl.

The shadow golem, which was picking its way along anyway, is just outside the clear space.

The reaper still hasn't found you. The crows and harpies are attempting to reorganize, but the stupider among them keep overacting when one of your shades flies by.

>+ 1 mana regen (23/48)

You soar up and into the melee of birds.

Your clever plan dissolves as soon as you reach them. They were already on edge from the illusions - they go berserk when you arrive. The fight breaks down into total chaos. By the time you're done ripping their wings off, they've scored more than one hit against you.

However, you were able to catch quite a few of them on the way down. The feathers were a bit bitter, but they were otherwise tasty.

>+ 2 EXP (24)
>HP: 71/81

You land.

The reaper lunges at you from behind, scythe extended!

But you expect that. You Ink down into a puddle, and it misses you completely. You snap back to your normal shape and catch its feet as it flies over you.

Reapers are relatively resistant to physical attacks. Clearly, you just need to hit it really, really hard.

You affirm your grip on its foot, and then you slam it into the ground. And then you lift it, and slam it again, and again, hard enough to crack the hardened stone beneath your feet. It loses its scythe, and its weak attempts at knocking your limbs away are ineffectual. You turn it into a ragdoll, banging it off every available surface.

It stops struggling, and you consume it.

>+3 EXP (27)
>+ 3 mana: (26/48)

The dragons are still struggling to fit through your earthworks. The flesh golems have now outstripped them, as their smaller size allows them a greater speed. You can sense your hardening enchantment starting to weaken.

The Shadow golem has arrived. It looms above you, silent.

I actually totally agree with you about buying Tao - however, at some point around SQ ~30, the thread in general began to trend away from Physical Shadow and toward Mage Shadow, so we never quite got enough support to top off the physical trees. It is what it is - if I vote for Tao, it's going to lose anyway. Might as well sway the choice between two close votes. (It's the same reason I still vote between Republican/Democrat, even though I'd rather a Third Party candidate wins).

There's no reason we can't do that now.

Save the biggest guns for their biggest guns.

Also, we could probably heavily influence this fight by Nightflare/blazing Banshee Abigail

i mean, if her army of summons can affect the outcome, we can too.

Anyway, the hard part i've been wondering.

Where is Fear right now? Banshee abby said 'wait, and come only when I call you'.

Its her secret weapon this fight. We're dealing with the diversion, and fear is going to show up, paralyze abby, and banshee abby wins.

In that situation, we may want to intervene and use temerity's plan, if good abby loses, because its way better than having an inhuman monster ruling archon.

Your question is akin to asking which class is best.
>>
You decide to slip away from the Shadow Golem. It turns and tries to lumber after you, but you dive into the canyon made by two walls and it is forced to go around. By that time, you're long gone.

You come across a shadow golem deep in the maze...and you've caught it from behind. You leap on it without hesitation, driving three limbs into its backside. It roars in pain, and scratches for you - but then you tear your sharpened arms side to side, sawing through its contorted spine. It drops like a rock. You roil over it and drain the energy from its flesh, leaving it a dusty, mutated skeleton.

Another one of the golems attacks you from behind! You dodge, and slice off the offending fist. It presses forward despite the injury, and you're forced backwards to evade the stone-crushing blows.

You can hear another roar nearby. The third golem is closing in. At the same time, you hear a grinding and smashing begin once more. The dragons are pressing forward, and it sounds like they're very close.

>HP: 74/81

I was waiting for someone to post this.

You've been away from your position too long. You dodge the golem carefully, predicting its movements from the way its body coils, and wait for an opening to make your escape.

It rears back for a big strike, then throws its fist forward, leading with all its weight. You duck out of the way.

It slams into a spiked stalagmite just behind you. The rock punctures it through the stomach. Guts spill out onto the ground around it. It weakly tosses its limbs in an attempt to be free.

Who could resist such an easy meal? You consume the golem in record time, and it's helpless to resist. It's quick work...very quick work. Hunger is feeling attended to.

>you gain 3 EXP (34)
>you gain 3 HP (77/81)

With that out of the way, you fly up and soar toward the doorway. You're not a moment too soon - a gout of fire roars through the thin passages back on the ground! You see the fire dragon's head poke out of the stone maze and eye you angrily as you make your escape.

You land back at the door, and focus your magic back into the earth. It hardens once again. You can hear angered roars of frustration.

>mana: 23/48

And then, you see fire. A lot of fire. The rock turns to slag as the stream of blue-white fire continues unabated. The fire dragon is melting it's way through by force!

The cry of last flesh golem cuts your ears. You swivel to face it as it charges at you. Lumbering behind is the mighty Shadow Golem - but it's heading for the door. With their numbers depleted, they're finally trying to break straight through to Abigail in earnest.

What do you do?

...so anyway, next time will be Wednesday! This fight's almost finished, and then we're on to the end of the archonium. Double super pinky promise.

Thread is archived, see twitter for updates, all that jazz

Meta questions while I make sure my teeth are squeaky clean!
>>
The archonium never fucking ends.
>>
>>26441518

So how well did we do on the Archonium so far?
>>
>>26441518

So will we have to worry about spawning rape elementals form all those notes you scribbled down?
>>
>>26441518
Is Flint angrily questioning Fang as to where we are/went right now?
>>
>>26441566

Solid B

The major points have been handled well. Your progress through Abigail's vision has been about as good as you could hope.
>>
>>26441518
So obvious reality warping powers not carrying over, how OP is Abby going to be if we successfully get her out of this?
>>
>>26441631
A B?! A B is failing! It's not 100%!

What did we suck on?
>>
>>26441631

What's an A supposed to be like?

I'm thinking just slightly over Sandelass.

SM, Might want to take a look over at Meta Game Quest.

Someone figured out how to make nigh-undetectable 1d1's, copying invisible text into the dicebox.

It only shows up if the e-mail field is copied into a word program.

Rainbows!

Also some stuff in the Abigail vision has been kind of iffy, not bad per say but definitely going to have consequences.

Ahhh.

I see.

When we get out of the archonium, I want to know what your plan for Temerity was
The Plot Side A, Plot Side B thing. Can you tell us, after the time has passed?

I got the naggling suspicion that temerity wasn't just going to make her into Order, he was going to jump ship ENTIRELY to avoid the corruption that is humanity.

I wish i could

>Our Waifu is the BBEG, we are forced to kill her
That's got more than enough feels for me to believe that SM would do it.
>>
>>26441652

She'll be a major, major force. Fang, but less experienced.

IF you get her out of here.

IF.

>>26441760

Yeah, sure, eventually.
>>
>>26441835
If she doesn't get out of here, people are going to start attacking pharmacy techs.

The choice is yours.
>>
>>26441835
If?
I-I thought we were past the point of dangerously fucking this up.
>>
>>26441835
>She'll be a major, major force. Fang, but less experienced.
Holy shit. I was expecting her to definitely be up to par of our other party members but damn.

>>26441860
We still got whatever bullshit The Banshee is trying to pull.
>>
>>26441835
I have a question.
I haven't shit in four days, because I have no toilet paper. But I don't think I can hold it anymore. What do I wipe my ass with?
>>
>>26441879
Your hand.
>>
>>26441835
>She'll be a major, major force. Fang, but less experienced.
Is that factoring in us using Servant / Chosen on her?
>>
>>26441879
Just shit and then hobble into the shower, or use a washcloth.
>>
>>26441891

When in rome...
>>
>>26441860
I mean, she's still behind closed doors fighting against her evil twin in said evil twin's hideout.

In which the evil twin has been setting up a plot that neither we nor regular Abby knows a thing about.

A plot that she's had 8 years to work on, and near-omnipotent reality manipulation powers to set it up.

Not sure why people think we're in the clear juuuuust yet.
>>
>>26441879
Just get in the shower and spray your ass. Preferable you have a shower head that you can hold in your hand.
>>
>>26441879
washcloth or take a shower
>>
>>26441860

You actually just stopped a major happening. If you hadn't retreated right then, the dragons and the golems would have penned you in. The shadow golem would have walked right into the battle of Abigails.

That would have been problematic.

>>26441879

be a man, use your hand

>>26441874

Well...we'll work it out. She'll be powerful enough to influence things.
>>
>>26441858
Yeah, SQ has already shown strong reactions when it comes to Abigail being in danger and it would be really sucky to have the really long Archonium ride end in failure.

Isn't Fang more powerful than us?
That's scary, yo
>>
>>26441765

That was incredible disappointing, I can actually see how he rig the roll.
>>
>>26441957
What's more problematic is that so many people voted to get us pincered. I can only imagine what would've happened if 1/4 of the non knobmiesters didn't make it to this thread.
>>

>be a man, use your hand
B-but I have no soap :<
My possession consist of computer+spaghetti+rice+rice cooker+onions
I have clothes and a calculus text book.
I.. I guess I don't need the opening chapter.
>>
>>26441957

Let this be a lesson people, holding the line is more important than anything we're doing so far.

Including snacking.
>>
>>26442017

He's got a shit-ton of experience on us, which is probably what would trump us if we ever got into a fight (which would be a monumentally stupid thing to do).
>>
>>26442011
>All of my nostalgia
>>
>>26442017
I think we have a fair chance.

I don't want to fight him, but if we can get plugged into a mana pool and spam 420NIGHTBLAZEIT and Void Ring all over him, then he'd probably have some trouble
>>
>>26441983
The computer company he's using is in one of the new england states(northeast coast USA).
Of course that might not actually be his location, but we have a timezone for tracking him down.
There can only be so many pharmacy techs.
>>
>>26442032
Use the blank pages they always include.
>>
>>26442032
In the back of most wallmarts there is shipping. Their security is terrible, you can walk right in and take some toilet paper. I've done it for dozens of things before.
Well maybe not dozens and dozens, at least one bakers dozens.
>>
>>26442032

How did you even get in this situation? Why did you hold it for four days?

Go use a public bathroom if you're desperate. Otherwise I recommend shit+shower.

Failing that, there's always the bed method...
>>
>>26441957
>You actually just stopped a major happening. If you hadn't retreated right then, the dragons and the golems would have penned you in. The shadow golem would have walked right into the battle of Abigails.

I keep telling you guys that we need to defend abby, but no, its shadow fight as usual, max out xp, consume everything type deal.

I think i have a good analogy.

The people who ALMOST let this happen are like Teammates in video games who Don't Play The Objective. Lets use tf2 as a popular example.
Players who just can't grasp 'get on the point' or 'defend that area' or 'prevent enemies from getting closer by advancing out only a LITTLE to fight'

This. Fucking this. Play the objective. This battle is one in which we need to STOP fighting the most efficiently for our own growth - and break out the big guns.

Shadow shotgun(now that we have it)
Berserk beatdowns(seriously, 80 hp is plenty to take a beating or two)
Big, multi-target spells - (one anon caught Ice Flurry as being multitarget, and hey there's fire enemies)

This is basically a Boss battle. Not a time to be skimping on our moves.

You know what, never mind, I don't want to know.

>You actually just stopped a major happening. If you hadn't retreated right then, the dragons and the golems would have penned you in. The shadow golem would have walked right into the battle of Abigails.

SM uses tactics against us.

We need to step up our game and do the same thing.
This whole war and army thing with the demon lords is gonna necessitate some semblance of strategic thinking if we don't want it to go to shit.
>>
>>26442175
We should also save our EXP in case we need to buy something big to stop Banshee's plan.
>>
>>26442339
I'll play EUIII & Total War to practice for the Kan-Abar invasion.

Just kidding, I'll read old military battles that have even a semblance of a similar situation to this one and script/extrapolate planning for our side and our given possible resources and the possibility of having much less or much more and all of the in between.
Well that's quite a bit of work.

See you Wed' day SM.
