Your rescue attempt of your friends from the Phoenix Empire army camp has been going quite well.

Your infiltration by way of a flying, parasail-driven, wagon worked like a charm.

You were also able to locate where Ambrose Trapp, Barney Pitt, and Princess Mumei were having a lovely Hostage Dinner with some high-bred Empire nobles, and their very heavily armed guards.

You had Mage use his power to create a magical flash-bang distraction and you charged inside.

There you hit your first snag. Your friends have weighted ankle shackles on them.

So, thinking, and acting quickly, you decided to try and grab your own three hostages by using your paralytic poison on the three nobles.

There you hit your second snag, you only managed to fully paralyze one of the nobles. The one you got with your claws pulled away in time so that he only got a partial dose of your poison. The other one managed to dodge as he had the clever idea of hitting the ground when the flashbang went off.

The element of surprise is rapidly fading, and you have about one second left before the guards draw their blades.
>>
>>26346377
Well, looks like we're going to have a fight on our hands.

"Mage, cut 'em free!"
The rest of the group can just do their thing, they know their part is to help clear out the guards and guard the prisoners.

Who's closest to us, other than the KOed noble? A guard? We should probably get to fighting whomever is closest.
>>
>>26346377
Can we flip the table they were using onto the nobles?
>>
>>26346425
>Who's closest to us, other than the KOed noble?
That would be the blue crane, very-woozy, noble.
>>
We should probably do a tail swipe. That should keep a guard from drawing his blade for just a bit longer.
>>
>>26346452
eh, he's woozy, we'll prioritize him later.

I still say go after a guard. They're way armed, we need to at least weaken one before fight starts.
>>
>>26346450
>Can we flip the table they were using onto the nobles?

It's 30 feet long and made of solid wood. Took at least five slaves to move it in here. You can certainly try, Miss 200lb+ tail of 'pure muscle' if you want, but it'll be hard.
>>
>>26346484
let's not, that could kill them.

>>
>>26346377
Either we go after a guard or we take the woozy guy hostage. No point taking the one already knocked out, he's dead weight.
>>
>>26346540
Nope. Keep things short and to the point, and make the terms VERY clear.

{Anyone moves, this guy dies, Badly.}
-or-
{Everyone shut up and don't move.}
depending on how overtly threatening we want to be. Personally I don't want to make that call, because I am in a bad mood and I will propose killing and violence regardless of whether it is a good idea.
>>
>>26346594
>believers in reincarnation
>caring about someone dying badly

It couldn't hurt, though. They just might not care.
>>
>>26346594
I vote the second one. Shut up and don't move. No death threats, since well, we're probably going to paralyze and not kill them.
>>
>>26346630
At a glance, could you tell me how being paralyzed looks from being dead?
>>
>>26346661
Because it'd look very different from "dying badly", in the context of the two choices here >>26346594

If you make a threat, you need to be prepared to follow through.
>>
"Mage! Get in here and cut them free!" You shout.

Mage jumps through the slit and swears when he sees the guards and the chains. He drops to the ground and starts on Barney's (the closest) shackles.

{Everyone shut up and don't move.} You snap as you hold onto the Red Crane noble to keep his from collapsing onto his face.

The guards pause and go wide-eyed as a Snake has spoken in the Noble Song.

This maybe will buy you a few moments, but those guards are going to go for Mage or Barney soon. However, right now, the floor is yours.

I don't want to threaten these guys with "eating people" anyway.
>>
>>26346822
Yeah. Mumei is in the room.
>>
>>26346822
Honestly, I don't care how we come across to these people. I just don't want to waste time trying to get them to do something they'll never do when I have pressing concerns about the mental state of our friends.
>>
>>26346838
I don't care what the PE thinks of me either, but I do care how Mumei thinks of me, so professionalism.
>>
Be sure to physically place ourselves between the guards and our friends, so they have to get through us to get to them.
>>
And the worry sets in
>>
>>26347252
Okay, it's officially taken too long. I need sleep.

My plan is that if Mumei, Barney, and Ambrose aren't mindwiped, focus on beating the guards as quickly as possible. If they HAVE been mindwiped, drag out the fight as long as it takes to get a Beacon charge, then direct a lightray at one of their faces. I'd say Mumei, because ladies first.

If that works, continue dragging out the fight and do it to all three. If it doesn't, revert to beating the guards. Drag our friends out bodily if need be. Kill anyone who gets in our way.

Good night and good luck.
>>
>>26347318
well, see you later man. My plan is something vaguely similar, we'll see how it goes.
>>
>>26347366
Killing or Enlightening things is a solid plan. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
>>
>>26347378
Eh, I hope we can just cut the chains and get out of here quickly and with a minimum of fuss.

Then we can get to the AIRSHIP CHASE
>>
(Apologies.)

{Now that I have your undivided attention, all weapons on the Table. Now.} You say.

There's a pause. {Do it, or you get to watch a Snake eat a juicy chick.}

The Black Owl Noble pulls himself up and looks at the scene.

He frowns and narrows his eyes at you. "You're bluffing." He says in Citadel tongue. "I know what you are. You're one of their sacred warriors, you wouldn't dare kill a helpless man."

{Stand back you idiots.} Owl says. {She's killed worse things and better fighters than you.}

"Kingfisher warned...one moment." He grabs the Blue Crane noble and sits him down in a chair and rests his head on the table. {Don't move nephew.}

"Kingfisher warned me about you." He frowns and looks at Mage. "If your sorcerer keeps doing that, I will have my people attack. They'll kill the bride and the old man before you can get to them. We already have their designs and prototypes."

He's slightly bluffing on that last bit. You can tell by his eyes flicking towards Ambrose. Mumei he doesn't need, but something the old man knows...

Barney and Mumei are trying to get you to notice two different things.

Barney is looking not at Black owl, but at his back.

Mumei is looking directly at an unopened wine bottle on the table, then she looks back at him and nods.

Ambrose is nodding at Barney.

"I'm not afraid of you Serpent." He smiles. "And I'm not afraid of the death of this body. As for this war, this is just a matter of calm principle...wait no...poor words that don't translate into your tongue." He smiles. "It comes to this, an empire that has set borders is an Empire that dies. We are the predator and your hodge-podge of elven terrorists, racist xenophobes, and that...horror show you have on the coast? You are our prey. This is nature."
>>
>>26348006
Yeah, but their responses when we arrived are still highly suspect.

I'd forgotten about that device's existence until someone reminded me after the fact, and I STILL thought it was suspicious as fuck.
>>

And there's something in the wine bottle?
I am... unsure of what this means. I have 0 ranks in innuendo.
>>
>>26348023
Okay, it's past two in the morning. Someone else sort this shit out.
>>
>>26348050

>>

okay, so the owl has a secret weapon.
>>26348069
But how would that help anything? What could possibly be in the bottle?
>>
>>26348023
... why would the wine be unopened?

I think it comes down to that, but fuck's sake, Echo, we're going to need more than that this late.
>>

It's also nature for predators to die at the hands of their prey. I mean, come on. Those horns and antlers aren't just for show!

>>26348076
Well, if the powder is wet...
>>
>>26348082

I like it.
>>
>>26348023
Quick quick bottle to the spine.
"No Owl, YOU are the prey"
>>
>>26348082
And we know basically nothing about guns in general. Besides that, how do you intend to open a wine bottle that is likely tightly corked and have it hit the gun in such a way that it goes down the very small barrel, past the shot and wad, and nulls the powder?
>>
>>26348023
"So, your advice to me at a critical junction is to start conquering your lands instead of merely defending my own? A grand idea, let's drink on it."

Then do the thing with the bottle. I assume smash in such a way that it will make the guy's powder weapon too moist to go off. After that, GUARD THE PRISONERS SHIT

>>
>>26348109
You don't need to get it inside the chamber. Early blackpowder weapons are externally-fired. It's the design's major flaw, and a basic principle that we should be familiar with if we've seen one work EVER.
>>
>>26348023
"you know, it's quite rude to call it a horror show. Doubt you care."

"It's late and I'm tired." You snap. "But, your advice to me at a critical junction is to start conquering your lands instead of merely defending my own? A grand idea, let's drink on it."

>>
>>26348176
You smash the bottle into his face, he staggers back, glass and wine covering his face, his arm pulls in reflectively, but he's still trying to shoot you.

It's the fact that the gun is so near his face that the misfire does much more damage. Had he fired as normal, the gun probably would have ruined his hand and caused arterial bleeding.

At THIS range however, his nose and his right eye are blown off his face due to the blackpowder misfiring and the gun blowing up, literally, in his face.

You know enough of blackpowder weapons from Barney that THAT was no accident. That was sabotage.

Also, you can clearly smell a familiar poison that was in the wine, from the broken wine bottle in your tail.

Which means that when the Black finally does mix with the Inheritance Powder in the veins, as it's doing now for both the Blue and Red Crane, the blood clots at an amazingly swift rate and the two expire with a slight gurgle and the awful stench of the voided bowels of nobility.

"So...you guys aren't part of the plan, then?" Barney asks as Mage frees him.

"Never mind that!" Mumei shrieks. "Ambrose! Get down!"

The Princess and Ambrose both dive under the tables, and the guards advance.

We can't do that. We already did it with Isen.
>>
>>26348805
we didn't mean to do it that time though!

You lunge, fangs out and you hear a shriek of terror from the man behind the mask.

You chomp into the soldier's shoulder, deeply, and inject a full dose of black into him. You let go and he collapses to the ground.

By His Light, you're hungry.

The two other guards are still busy with the wasps.

Peri does a double slash on Lea's guard.

Mage blasts the guy again.

Tricia continues to control her swarm.

Lea does a double strike.

Yeah, we really are burning through a LOT of vitamins and minerals making all this poison.

Not to mention all the use poison-> get food our evolution is based on.
>>
>>26348827
Tricia's swarm stops openly stinging the guards, but still keeps them over burdened with their presence.

Peri slashes open a part of the Guard's chest, and Lea...her strike is aimed right at the opening, and she pulls her fist back with a mass of...something, whatever it is it causes the Guard to drop.

Your turn.

Hell, if possible we could grab something now if there's a chance for a chicken leg or something. Is there anything like that immediately visible to us on the table?

Should we leave a note as well?
>>
>>26348827
Let's evacuate Mumei, Ambrose and Barney. Our comrades are keeping the others busy.

Anyway, go and coil around one of the wasp guards. The barbs will make him nice and quiet. Hopefully unconscious.

Grab some food off of the dinner table. Smack the remaining guard with the plate. Venom use makes a girl hungry.

Got to contend with the Ball and Chain.

And I don't mean their wives.

we're still waiting on mage to cut them free, aren't we?

You know something, let's not eat any of the food on the table. It seems to be poisoned, judging by the other two nobles who died.

You do taste a touch of poison, Inheritance Powder again, nothing you need to worry about.

A hard slash/smack and you have probably broken the guy's ribs and torn open a huge gash in his arm to boot.

The guards are still wasped.

Peri does a double slash.

Mage blasts.

Lea does a double strike.

Tricia continues to control the swarm.

peri and lea are really earning their damn wages.

Which we STILL don't pay them.

Yes. Mari knows we won't notice as long as she ensures we keep getting extra rations.
>>

Tricia holds the swarm long enough for Peri to slice off the guard's head, and for Lea to kick said broken rib into the other guard's heart.

They drop to the ground, very much dead.

Mage gets to work freeing the other two.

Barney gets up and looks at you, blood and Black dripping from your smiling mouth as you munch on one of the (decent, but you wouldn't eat them if you had options) meat pies that are on the table. (No poison in these.)

"So, you just took a very intricate plan of assassination, political maneuvering, and backstabbing...and smashed it to pieces in about five minutes." Barney says. Then he hugs you. "Oh, I missed you nut jobs SO much."

"We need to get out of here." Mumei says, when freed. "Kingfisher will be PISSED. He was counting on him," She nods at Blue Crane, dead in his soup. "To be living. Not to mention to keep us as hostage guests."

"Tell me you all didn't give up all of the blackpowder and flying machine secrets." Mari says.

Mumei shakes her head. "They have my prototype, but that's it, and it's calibrated to just work for me and my body type and weight. It'll take them ages to adjust it. I hope. Either way, longer than they'd like."

"They've got the plans for basic rifles and pistols." Barney says. "But the advanced stuff, the quick reloading device, and the chamber bullet designs are safe. Plus the Spell-Shooter advancements I kept quiet about as well."

"What did they want from you Ambrose?" Tricia asks as you all run towards Wagon.

"I'll explain when we get out of here." Ambrose says. "But trust me when I say it's horrible. The Phoenix Empire doesn't just want to conquer the land...it wants to conquer the soul as well."
>>

And now I must sleep...for what little time there is left. Sorry for the long gap, there was a plumbing issue that has been resolved...for now.

Also, I feel like we just sort of accidentally killed a few important NPCs. And WHO was setting up this assassination?

Mumei will need to fill us in.

Eh, not really. Things just sound much much worse online if you're vague. My woes are much less dramatic, and more time consuming than anything else.

Be worried when I don't have time for this and stop showing up. THEN it's probably serious.

You can't just feel good about ruining just anybody's plans. I mean sure, they usually deserve it, but good plans probably shouldn't be ruined.

Also, we're totally breaking our "use silverware" rules on this one. Barehanding a fish and a meat pie.
>>

No, THEN you trigger your dead man's switch and tell us who is holding you up and we go rescue you. Probably from ravening hordes of coyotes.
