You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Having concluded your business with the vaguest form of authority willing to deal with a pirate such as yourself, you set out into the void to pirate your first victim. Unfortunately, your choice to pirate a sprint trader met with near disaster as your ship's engines could not withstand the strain of the additional output needed to maintain pursuit of the vessel. As your prey escaped despite a massive gash rent along her flank, the vessel's Captain taunted you with promises that the 'Merchant Lords' would hear of your attack. Thankful that your ship escaped with minimal damage but with further prey alerted to your presence, you decided to set course once more for Vectes before you became prey yourself.

Shifting back to the matterium causes your skin to tingle, the bridge crew going about their business and scanning the system once more with augers. Everything seems just as you left it, a forbidden system full of naught but asteroids, airless planets and the dead. As your ship sets for silent running toward the asteroid cluster where you noted the remains of a hidden base, your augers detect a small, new field of debris where the aft section of a cruiser should have drifted in your absence. "Looks like the guardians of this place aren't just the dead" mutters Elise.

We will need to do this fast, so get everyone ready to work hard and make sure to plan out shifts in advance.
Put what repairs we can on hold so we can free up more techpriests to clear the debris faster.

We know of one dock, right? See if we can find more. Look around the surface.

Also, what is our allotted time budget this time?
>>
>>26332925

Arvus Lighters are capable of deploying forces near the debris or in smaller areas.

Aquila Landers require larger areas to do so.

Your engines have suffered damage from being overtaxed. Without repairs further attempts to push the engines beyond their normal operating power may result in catastrophic failure.

>Look around surface
You have 6 Arvus Lighters and 2 Aquila Landers. Please distribute them between tasks.
>>

>All nearby women are likely to keep your hand after severing it.
Aww, Yandere.
>>
>>26333388
In that case, keep repairing things.

Our lighters are to use their full capacity to supply the away teams.
Our armsmen and what few techpriests we can spare are to clear the rubble from the main dock.

Can our lighters dock with the landers? If so, use the landers to ferry supplies and the lighters to just move them to the asteroid. Unless that's impractical or impossible.
>>

Dangerous, but possible.

Do you wish to assign any officers to tasks?

Nevermind, then. I can't trust the dice with something like this.

>Do you wish to assign any officers to tasks?
Keep Advinessa on repairs.
Kihomi is in charge of the lighters and landers.
Elise is in charge of commanding the work crews clearing the rubble.
Keller will be in charge of the armsmen once we start exploring the asteroid.
Captain Percius is in charge of troubleshooting.
Tell Orsola that we will want some of her medics on the asteroid in case of emergency. just a few will be enough and they will stay in the hangar.

Repairs go well under Advinessa's supervision, her repair team digging into the damaged portions of the ship and baring the damage to their strange ways in record time. As you sit about attempting to once more decode the pair of letters that were in Captain Menexel's possession. Hours pass as you scrawl various notes across parchment, each sheet in turn balled up and thrown in frustration across your quarters. Reports slowly filter in from Elise's teams as they hit complications, their progress into the kilometers of twisted wreckage. Though progress is made, the estimates of how long work will take grow steadily.

The second day begins, showing better results for the work teams, the debris that caused the initial delays nearly dealt with by the Techpriests and 'Rockhounds' of your armsmen. Advinessa's teams report that they'll have completed repairs by the week's end, and you finally cease throwing your decoding attempts into the sizable hill in the corner of your quarters. More good news arrives as Elise sends you a dataslate with a pict capture of part of the debris. You almost agree that the objects seem to be engines.

The second day ends as you come to an interesting conclusion. These notes seem to have been between Alexander Kerr and Captain Menexel, and the number 50 comes up in reference to the subject matter.

Did Advinessa get the chance to look at that in an attempt to identify them?
Have someone hook up a servo skull with a vid transmission to allow her a better look at it. Or whatever else she might ask.

Also, can we send servoskulls into the asteroid base to explore the place and look for traps and stuff while our crew works the debris?
>>
>>26334764
Your crew has no servo skulls, the anti-grav technology used in them isn't within your current means to produce.
There are several damaged ones in the possession of techpriests, but so far none have been in condition to repair.

Delays. It seems every hour more delays are reported due to the microgravity of the massive asteroid shifting debris as your men work to clear it from the dock. Thankfully, no injuries are reported, but you can't help but sigh as yet another report of an estimated delay is reported by Elise. Work continues into the next day, slow as ever. As you alternate waiting upon the bridge, the plotting room and your quarters, it strikes you. You're hungry for an adventure. Perhaps you'll take a jaunt into the confines of the base when your crew has cleared a path, or even the trapped vessel. Elise does seem quite content with the view when she returns from her shifts with the work teams. Eventually, though, good news is upon you. "Rockhound actual to home plate! Captain Aurex, we're your boys when it comes to this kind of work. We just cut a massive chunk of the debris free and we're about to set some boosters on her. We're going to set them to fire on a delayed fuse and pull out like this bitch is a Caseblancian whore!"

As your teams return to the ship and Kihomi prepares the vessel to dodge the massive chunk of debris about to fly out of the dock, Advinessa seeks you out. "Captain Aurex! I have identified the equipment upon the trapped vessel. It is a mining barge, possibly one that collected the very ore that makes up this vessel's core." Practically rambling with excitement, your Chief Enginseer can hardly stand still. "More importantly... the barge is not warp capable, but I believe that the designs may complement each other. We may be able to use the barge's equipment to secure it to the Partisan and thus make our escape with the whole vessel."

Your crews are quick to dive back into the heart of the debris and begin carving out a rough escape path for the mining barge. Two teams brave the wreckage and begin to cut directly at debris that has pierced the barge's hull. Clouds of tiny molten particles scatter among the void, marking the location of your work teams as you watch them from behind the thick windows of the parade bridge. Progress is still slow, however. After two shifts, there is little visible change in the debris from your perspective, but once again the Rockhounds produce results in the next shift.

"Rockhound Actual to Home Plate! We're going to have to blast some of the last debris in the way, can't cut through rock with our equipment. Everyone clear out before Commander Marbo gets cooking!"

"I'm flattered, Ketur. Now clear out before I light this baby up!" Keller's voice is full of joy, and you can imagine him happily setting explosives about the debris.

'Fire in the hole!'

Debris flies wildly from the gaping maw of the dock, filling the void with glittering red embers and silvered shards of smaller metallic debris. There is probably some rock in there as well, but you're far more concerned with the grin coming from Advinessa's hood. "That fool has done it, Captain! The barge is free!"

Your void suit is comforting, the carapace plates embracing you like an old friend in the void. Thousands of minute, molten particles fly into the void from Advinessa's torch as it melts through the twisted section of hull. Bracing yourself upon the massive metal beam that pierced the barge's hull, you double check the connections of your hellgun, the weight of it's charge pack still a new sensation upon your lower back. Tes and Ana flank your Chief Enginseer protectively, not sharing her excitement for the unexplored vessel as you do. Behind you wait the bulk of your armsmen, ready to storm the barge and eliminate any threats. Not that you'll find anything. You hope.

With a strong kick, Ana drives the jagged section of hull inward before deftly propelling Tes and then another armsman into the breach. "Clear lef- Oh shit!" Tes gives off a yelp of shock over the vox frequency, followed by a slight chuckle of the armsman that followed her. "Damned big bilge rat, Tes. Good thing the fuck has been dead for who knows how long, huh?"

"We're all clear in this compartment, looks like a massive hold of some sort but I'm not seeing anything. Come on in, boss."

You and Advinessa enter soon after, the techpriest quickly shoving herself off toward a nearby hatch. "The power systems are dead, but are not hardened against intrusion, Captain." In little time, she has pried a panel from the bulkhead and connected a series of wires to a large charge pack from her gear. Shortly after, a massive cargo door begins to open toward the vessel's aft with a soft hiss. Armsmen quickly head into the new area, finding a massive interior bay that stretches fore and aft far beyond the lights of your team. Equipment looms in the darkness, and you're quickly drawn to the form of a sentinel power lifter. "Corpses, lots of them."

The next six hours see your teams moving amongst masses of equipment and hundreds, perhaps thousands of huddled corpses. Making your way to the simple bridge, you leave Advinessa with a squad of men while you go in search of the Captain's quarters. Ana finds the Captain first, a decayed, scored pile of bones in a fairly plain officer's uniform. "Bilge rats must have made meals out of the dead" Ana picks up a simple locket from the skeleton, her gauntleted hands fumbling with the small object for a moment before it yields. Inside is a simple picture of a young woman in a sun dress and wearing a sweet smile upon her face. Returning the locket to the corpse's remaining hand, Ana sighs. "Well, shit."

The Captain's quarters is a plain affair, long forgotten letters and books decorating his desk and a dusty leather mining cap, complete with micro-lamp upon the brim, resting upon the floor before a set of shattered storage drawers. As your teams withdraw from the barge, you gather the collected reports of your armsmen.

I don't think that we actually need our armsmen to affix the barge to our main vessel.
We can just tow the barge to our ship and let the crew aboard our ship deal with the rest.

So, I suggest that we do so and give up on clearing the debris from the dock, instead sending the armsmen in to explore the base and search for loot while the barge is being set in place by our crew.

Sure, we can't use out aquila landers at all in this scenario, or maybe we can use them just to tow the barge, but we won't have a lot of time to do anything by the time the dock is ready to recieve them anyway.
>>
stayin alive, stayin alive
>>
I'll be doing scattered updates for the next few hours.

>>26349364

The barge is currently a 700m x 250m x 100m [it isn't perfectly rectangular, but those are the extremes of the hull] mass of dead weight with no fuel, no power, and more desiccated corpses than you can shake a stick at.

How exactly you go about getting it to your ship is a puzzle for you, the players, to solve. You can also assign an officer to the task, if you prefer. It is likely to take longer and more resources, but it may also improve their skills.

If you consider your officers as a sort of mix between a training game for their skills and horrifically mortal, you're on the right track with them.

Not that -you- aren't squishy and mortal just as they are... you simply seem to have better luck so far.

You've cleared enough debris that the barge is free, but is 'sitting' upon the larger debris remains due to micro gravity.

Where exactly is the barge? Can we bring the ship to it and then catch it with cables/hooks/whatever it is we use for these things?
>>
>>26351603
I was meaning fuel once the techpriests have looked it over and patched up as much damage as it possible without moving it. Moving will likely require it being under its own power or us having access to those huge grapple lines to pull it out, I figure, which I don't think we have.
>>
Actually, before we try anything big, let's just have Advinessa and her crew take a closer look at it and its insides to more accurately asses the damage.

Also, make sure to have our armsmen scout through it and look for surprises. Make a quick and dirty map if its insides.

Advinessa's crews take six hours to return with reports, and there is little good news to them. "Two small plasma reactors form the barge's heart, Captain. Both are intact and likely functional, but the main power conduits leading from them have been severed and are beyond simple repair. Plasma flow manifolds are also damaged severely, with debris piercing the critical systems of engines two through four. There is good news, however. The vessel's enginseer had a small collection of projects that are easily within my ability to complete."

Micromanagement is boring, but so was life as a political pawn back home. At least here there is the lingering chill upon your spine that you could be found trespassing in a forbidden system. Sporadic reports of combat with the mutant bilge rats filter across, one of your squads stumbling upon a massive nest of the creatures and causing massive swarms of them to scatter about the station. Hours of further reports come in as various squads are forced to abandon their search and withdraw in the face of the larger swarms or move to assist other groups. A squad from the Rockhounds eventually reports with some good news, however. "Rockhounds have done it again, sir! We've found an empty lighter bay on the far side of this rock, but even better I think we found a stockpile of voidsuits and weapons. We're opening the bay doors and will set up lux beacons. Armsmen continue to report scattered swarms of the bilge rats, but the major swarms seem to have dissipated for now. Your armsmen begin holding a contest, competing to claim the largest rat killed. The vox network floods with various measurements as dozens of men and women one-up each other by millimeters. Good enough sport, you suppose. Maybe they'll improve their shooting.

Advinessa's work is much more interesting, the barge slowly making it's way out of the dock area with all of your lighters crudely affixed to the hull at various points. "Retro thrusters! Retro thrusters! Roll left! LEFT! Sweet emperor, you're going to kill us all!" You watch the craft slowly lose control several times, but Advinessa's calculations eventually reduce the wild movements to a slow, stable spiral. "We're cutting the lighters free, firing up beacons."

Kihomi is quick to maneuver your ship toward the barge, but matching the spiraling craft's interesting trajectory takes nearly an hour. Slowly but surely, your techpriests work to secure the barge with the craft's mining equipment. Dull thuds sound as the keel section of your vessel is drilled into by a quartet of massive screws, massive bolts pressing into hollow cores to secure the grip of the barge upon your hull. Thankfully, Advinessa's calculations are accurate, and nothing vital is breached or damaged by this questionable method. "Docking complete, Captain Aurex. I've rigged two of the lighters to power the mining equipment of this craft, and we'll require them to remain as such for the time being."

"I don't like it, Captain." Kihomi's face is disgusted as she begins maneuvering the vessel back toward the asteroid base. "That thing makes the ship handle like a one-legged grox."

Sure, agree with this.

And furthermore, suggest that after this 6 hours we high-fucking-tail it out of here. Th barge is a nice, huge prize, especially if we can get it working at full capacity. Drop it off somewhere within a belt that has shit worth mining, and we can make a tidy profit off it! Though it might tie us down a bit; after all, if we want to avoid someone attacking it we'll need guards. Maybe some of the less adventurous captains of ships i9n the wolfpack would be willing to be our guards for a cut of the profits? All things to consider!

I thought that we could leverage the Barge as an asset to the Wolf-pack for the assistance it could provide in establishing a Base of Operations in the Next Sector...

Alarms sound throughout the ship, bathing the parade bridge in red light. In an instant you're running for the bridge proper, finding your bridge in a mild panic. "Report!" Snapped into a vague sense of order by your shout, the crew begins to move with purpose. One of the crewmen looks up from the augers and throws you a quick salute. "Captain Aurex! Something has just emerged into the system and they're lit up like a small sun to our systems!"

Taking a look at the augers, you see that he isn't exactly wrong. A massive signature seems to have entered the system's edge spinward of your position, but the crewman has missed an important piece of information. It is slowly moving toward your position. A moment's inspection likely shows why: the chunk of debris the Rockhounds blasted out of the dock area has cleared the asteroid cluster.

At range? Decent so long as you're on a set course and don't deviate.

>>

>>
>>26356291
I think I know what we are dealing with, and if I'm right, they should better not reach us, but that is most likely true anyways.
>>

Very well. Aim the ship in the quickest escape vector which is within a 30 degree cone following their own course to the cluster... So long as we are moving away, it's all an advantage...

Also, heading in the right direction should also help when we go full burn to jump to the next system, then straight to another... then a third just in case...
>>
>>26356369
This. Deff. wait for the officers. It should take them minutes to get there and a chase should take at least a few hours; waiting for a couple minutes to get their input shouldn't hurt us and could be very helpful.
>>
>>26356402
You have a point there. Let's wait for a bit, especially sincd we can't do anything before our armsmen are back aboard.

"Recall all forces immediately! Don't linger! All hands to stations!" Your voice sets crew in motion as you move to your command throne. "Helm, find me the fastest course out of this cluster and system with that ship in our plasma wake!"

"Aye, Captain!" Kihomi dashes to her station as you bark orders, her jacket only upon one arm as she plots a course. "Course plotted, Captain! Permission to bring her about?"

"Permission granted!" Maneuvering thrusters begin to lethargically alter the vessel's position, your prow slowly turning to point away from the incoming contact.

"Aquilas 1 and 2 are away! Requesting lighter bay deploy the crash nets, we're coming in hot!" Advinessa steps to her station, her robes marred with a collection of various oils and scraps of metal sticking to the cloth. "Confirmed, Aquilas. Landing bay 3 is deploying crash nets. Arvus 2 and 4, why haven't you launched yet?" "We're unloading the extra o2 tanks!" "Ditch them in the void if you have to! The Omnissiah classifies them as disposable equipment without spirits!" "Copy! Arvus 2 and 3 launching!" "About time, lighterjocks! We're in no mood to be on this rock much longer!"

Elise rushes to her position in a poor state of dress, her hair still dripping. As she reads the augers, she curses. "Contact has ceased acceleration! They're making better time than we're likely able to, Captain." With a sigh, you offer your jacket to your XO. "Take it, you're clearly cold." Her eyes grow wide and her face red as she notices some of the surrounding crew glancing her way a little too much, quickly snatching your jacket and covering her thin duty shirt. "Thank you, Captain." "We're not going to survive if we panic, Miss Eberhardt. To your station." "Yes, Captain."

"Arvus 2 and 4! We've got the boys and are burning hard for home. Prep crash nets!"

"Arvus 2 and 4, adjust course to intercept at the coordinates I'm transmitting." Kihomi seems unnaturally calm as she works the helm, or perhaps pilots just get quiet when they think they're about to die. Your vessel's engines shake the ship as your Voidmaster focuses entirely upon her task, despite the augers showing an asteroid passing within the boundaries of the voidshield. Muttering a prayer to the Emperor, you watch your ship take a near suicidal path skimming asteroids even as your lighters are recovered. "All craft recovered and deployed crew accounted for, Captain."

Losing auger contact with the vessel closing upon your position as your ship exits the asteroid cluster, you're quite dismayed to find their course already adjusted to intercept your own and the mysterious vessel gaining upon you. "How long until they intercept?"

"It will be close, Captain. If their weapons have enough range, they've got a slim chance to bring us within effective range before we jump. We'll find out in 44 hours."

Erin calmly steps into the bridge, seemingly aloof to your current situation. "I believe my services are required, Captain. Where do you plan to travel?"

The burn out of Vectes is nail biting, toward the end as the enemy vessel attempts to put on additional speed toward the end, but their efforts are thankfully wasted. Opening a vox frequency, you broadcast to your defeated foe. "Farewell, and may you remember this as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Bolton!" Alarms sound as your ship prepares to enter the warp...

The ship is rocked throughout the journey as Advinessa struggles to guide the ship toward Caseblanco, avoid a lingering warp storm, and evade the unidentified ship giving chase to your vessel. The crew gets little work completed as the warp storm causes great unrest among the officers and crew. Orsola tends to the navigator's throne, replacing the nutrient packs and oxygenation filters that sustain your navigator during such intense and lengthy journeys. Your own time is spent mostly with Advinessa and her techpriests as they claim one of the unoccupied officer's quarters and convert it into a sort of command center for assessments of the mining barge. The vessel is heavily damaged, not even the interior 'spine' sections that you personally explored free of penetrating debris.

"It will be quite an endeavor to repair this ship, Captain Aurex. Perhaps you might assist us with your more... human, viewpoint?"

no reaction from the crew to this?

DO you think we can find the parts you need to fix the barge in Caseblanco? How long will that take?
Give priority to engines, geller field and mining equipment in that order

Then we should get the engines fixed up, try to patch up the hull as best as possible and then get the mining equipment working.

Also, now you have me wondering about the servo skull projects and what exactly she has planned.
>>
>>26357835
"I was hoping we would be able to bring it back to at least eighty percent full capacity and use it for mining duties, either here or in [name of the sector the pirate fleet is going to] as a source of metals and perhaps even other things like chemicals and gems and who knows what might be found in asteroids and meteors. We should have two to three weeks if we hit Casablanco on estimated time of arrival to enact repairs before the fleet moves out. I would like us to attempt to get her ready enough that she can safely accept fuel so that we may fuel her up before leaving, that and full hull integrity are first priorities, and her engines as a secondary priority. "
>>
>>26357933
>>26358103
>>26358147

Advinessa nods eagerly at your words. "The hull repairs are a simple affair, the ship is civilian grade and is only armored to resist small meteor impacts and lacks void shields. Estimates of a week's worth of repairs to replace the damaged hull sections and seal the ship against the void. Repairs to the main power conduit to the ship's components may require funds, but we'll not know until we open up the section for repairs. Engines will need critical parts manufactured or purchased, but there is doubt as to the ability to manufacture them within the fleet. Lord Wilson's vessel would have the facilities required, if we are. Life support and fuel resevoirs appear to be intact and simply need restocking. Mining facilities are only for ore extraction and are not believed to be damaged to the extent of requiring specialist knowledge. I am confident that we can restore the barge to full operational status, given the ability to repair the engines." nearly fidgeting, your Chief Enginseer seems to unsciously count upon her right fingers. "I estimate 20 days of repair work, given the proper parts can be constructed before we would replace the damaged sections around the engines."

Just what are the limits of a servo-skull's usefulness?

Could we make one into a tailor?
>>
>>26358952
a combat-focused servo skull might be useful.
>>
>>26359106
A servo skull is generally run by a simple machine spirit. They are capable of basic logic and following simple orders. You could make a servo skull into a tailor skull, but it would basically just be really good at cutting cloth or stitching things with assistance of some sort.

>>26358952

Advinessa notes your delegation of the servo skulls, though you note a distinct pause when you order one specifically to tend to your hats and hat-based needs. Leaving the cog-heads to the details of your barge's repairs, you head to your quarters and offer a prayer to the Emperor to protect you from the warp storm while you sleep. Memories of home haunt your dreams, the faces of your siblings melting, twisting and reforming to jeer at you. The journey's end comes all too soon for you, the ship bursting back into reality despite the pull of the warp storm refusing to relinquish it's grasp. With your crew more than capable of piloting your vessel to meet with Captain Wilson's vessel, you leave Elise in command as you return to your quarters to enjoy a nice, hot shower.

Refreshed and relaxed, you find a servo skull carefully tending to your small hat collection. Holding the Fairly Fancy Mitre of the deceased Iron Monk in two manipulator arms as a third carefully picks over the stitching of the hat, the skull watches you curiously before turning to another hovering skull. This second skull's left eye is elongated, and you quickly note the tip of a laspistol is made to look like a crude sensory probe. As both skulls hover about, you give them a few simple commands to move about your quarters at your whim. Satisfied that both will obey your commands, you call for your Captain's hat and for both constructs to follow you back to the bridge.

Your new servo skulls quickly take an interest in the trio of skulls hovering about the bridge, the five of them soon circling each other curiously and causing quite a few laughs from the crew. Advinessa sighs, the skulls quickly gazing toward her before returning to their duties. "The spirits are young and their protocols untested, Captain Aurex. Corrections required."

With your crew's spirits raising as they embrace the sense of safety that is the small gathering of the wolfpack, you take to your command throne and ponder your next move...

Report to Lord Wilson.

Inform him of our forie into the asteroid base and the finding and securing of the barge. Give him Advinessa's report on damages and repair orders. If he asks why we secured it, inform him it was because we believed that it would prove a useful asset in establishing and supplying a Operations Center in the next Sector.

Might give us brownie points, or at least a better deal on parts...
I advocate never mentioning the whole 'Captain Jack Bolton' thing to him... That is only asking for trouble as he probably has connections with the Merchant Lords... probably supplies for services kind of deal too.... wouldn't really be surprised if he already knows about the attempt....

A quick lighter flight sees you over to Lord Wilson's vessel, a sharply dressed assistant awaiting you in a small buggie of some sort. "Captain Aurex, I've been assigned as your handler for the future, my name is Erwin Estiban." He pauses for a moment, smiling. "I'm usually just called 'E' for short. I'll be taking you to Lord Wilson, Captain."

'E' wastes little time before speeding off with you, the vehicle's tires propelling you wildly down a massive cargo passage within the ship. Crews shout curses as you pass, their bulky cargo lifters simply an obstacle to be avoided by Erwin. With a screech, your trip comes to a stop upon a cargo lift, the buggie's suspension dulling the sudden lurch as it rises toward the command sections of the vessel. Erwin makes some small talk, and you soon learn he was born upon a world several systems from your own, captured by Lord Wilson's forces as a child and raised partially by the Lord himself. "Never had a son, so he likes to act like some of us are, at times. I was never skilled at fighting, so I sort of stuck around." Driving much more calmly in the command sections of the ship, you are finally delivered to your destination. "Good luck, Captain. I'll await you here."

Straightening yourself, you step into Lord Wilson's chamber once more. It hasn't changed much, though you note one of the guards is different this time. "Percius! You're back sooner than expected, how was your first voyage, boy?" Signalling his man, he motions for you to sit. "Herdil, fetch a good brandy. We must celebrate the rookie's survival suitably!"

"Tell me, Percius, what adventures have you gotten yourself wrapped up in?"

"I've plundered the aft section of a cruiser in the [name of location where we did that thing I am sorry I am terrible with names], and then headed over to speak to that Rogue Trader that I told you about previously, Kerr, to sell some of the loot we found, buy some supplies, and ransom away those prisoners. He seems a nice enough sort, hasn't betrayed me so far, and I think that a good sign. Tried our hand at some real piracy rather than salvage which.... did not go as well as it might have, our prey eluded us, however we were able to return to the salvage site and recover the mining barge you no doubt have heard is attached to our ship. I thought she might prove useful in either this subsector or the next, if we can get her operational. Mining might not be the most glorious job but it's not as frowned upon by the various Adeptus' as piracy and could be used to make some money on the side.

In the interest of full disclosure, we were... discovered at the salvage site. Some kind of cruiser-sized ship, remarkably fast for its size, warped in sensors full active as we'd just managed to get the barge free. We had to run for it but managed to get away. As far as I know, we lost them in the warp."

This sound acceptable to everyone?
>>
>>26370885
"well I tried to sharpen my fangs, as I wanted to have some experience before going into an unknown system. sadly that did not go as planned and my prey managed to escape despite the grievous damage I dealt it.
I then went to an abandoned space station, were I found quite a few things including the mining barge, you can see strapped to my ship, it's damaged but if repaired it could allow us to establish a base of operation quicker, along with mutated rats, void suits and a rather nice leather mining hat.
as we were recovering the barge an unknown ship arrived in the system fearing they were aligned with my prey I decided to flee in order to avoid damaging my findings, I believe we've lost them in a warp storm."

Lord Wilson listens to your summary as his man returns with brandy and some ice. Though he pours the drinks neat, Lord Wilson happily adds several cubes of ice to his glass. "Quite an adventure, Percius. Looting the dead may be distasteful to some, but it keeps both the small fry like ourselves and the Imperium running at times." Carefully swirling his drink with a movement of his wrist, Wilson seems to consider his words. "Your interactions with Lord Kerr may prove useful in the future, I'm quite proud that you're one of my Captains. Quite proud. Don't worry about your first mark getting away, it has happened to us all and will happen again. Sometimes we bite off more than we can chew."

"You're strangely honest about all of this, Captain Aurex. Most of the rookies have some kind of excuse for failure or don't mention they've been followed by silent guardians of forbidden systems. The hats are a bit odd as well, but we all have our vices." With a grin, he sets his glass upon the table. "Shall we have a proper toast to your good health, or is there other business to discuss, Captain?"

As to the cargo upon your find, my ship has the facilities to refine the silver ore, though it is not as efficient as it could be. A twenty-five percent cut will allow me to ensure that those handling it don't skim off on their own."

You share several toasts of brandy with Lord Wilson, informing him of the various hats you've come across in your adventure. "And you say you have a servo skull that is dedicated to the care of your hats? Wonderful!" Wilson wipes at his eyes as his laughter subsides, his face covered in pure mirth. "Emperor save you, Percius, we need more good Captains. Until we meet again, Captain."

Your meeting with Lord Wilson over, you head back to your own ship.

We can expect a new engine to set us back quite a bit and we only have 21 wealth atm, if I'm reading it right.

Or, in other words, we will need to go out there and make some cash once we're done resting here.

First, send Advinessa a message to get us the specs of the engines we need for the barge and whatever else she might need to bring our main vessel up to speed.

While the repairs are underway, we can go down to the surface and ask around if there's anyone preparing for a job we can join. Even if we earn less by joining a job than by doing it ourselves, we are probably more likely to earn something that way.

Also shore leave for the armsmen.

The acquisition rolls were for Wilson's ship having the parts or the ability to make them.

Also, I'll need a 1d25 roll and 6d50 rolls for the silver ore

Eighteen bars of silver are delivered after refining, along with six wealth for an unexpected copper-nickel bi-product.
>>
>>26373995
Cool beans. And since we rolled so poorly on those checks for if Wilson's ship had the parts, I'm guessing we'll have to contact Ferrari to see if he has anything or an idea on where we might find them. Would be best if we didn't travel, I think. We've got, what, a month or so left before we're due to leave? I don't think it'd be good risking missing the jump to the new sector just for parts.
>>
>>26373995
whoops.

One-hundred and Eighty bars of silver
>>
>>26374111
I agree with this, for the most part. Let's see Ferrari and ask him where to get the parts we need.
>>
>>26374138
Oh. Well then. That's uh. That's significantly better than 18. It's something like 1 wealth per 8 bars, or was that 1 per 4? Yeah that's a nice bit of wealth if we can find a buyer.

Anywho, I guess it's time to message Ferrari.

"Captain Aurex! Good to see you alive once more. So very good." Signor Ferrari's image upon your vix-pict feed pats at sweat with a folded cloth. "Parts such as those? Hmm. I do believe I can put you in contact with a dealer of such wares. It will cost you, of course. Such information can be quite valuable to people, no?"

>Offer price?
>>
>>26374664
"Interesting. You'd rather payment up front rather than a cut of what we end up paying your contact? Very well, say, [2 wealth]?"

I really hope I'm not over/under bidding here. I hate not knowing how much something is worth.
>>
>>26374721
We should get him to make an offer or at least hint at his expectations. I'd guess he wants 5-10%. Should we say half for making the contact, half if he has what we want and is willing to sell it?

"Of course it is, and you can rest assured that this won't be to your disadvantage."
>>
>>26374664
I don't like this maybe we can hold off until we get to the next sector and find a port.

I'd say Y. What happens if we don't end up buying right away, because we lack the funds to afford everything we need? Is there a clause for a minimum amount of payment he would get just for referring us or am I over thinking this?
>>
>>26374860
Yes, I was told in chat there is no way to get parts in the next sector easy.

over-thinking, but he'll just kindly inform you of a debt.

Kind of want to go with these as hopefully we can get our Techs to upgrade them.
>>
>>26375159
I want the reliable ones.
Have one of our techpriests look over it before we complete the purchase. Preferably Advinessa herself.
>>
>>26375159
I'd say ask Advinessa or one of the techpriests to look over the

before finalizing, but other than that these sound solid.

>>26375209
>>26375236
>>26375240

Advinessa is less than pleased by 'Haaazin'z Part Empoorium', but she stops chasing the man around in a rage after you fire a warning shot. "None of the systems are designed for the barge, Captain. The tug engines are a cheap solution but under-powered for full loads. Sprint Engines would speed up the craft, but would have poor maneuvering capabilities. The Lifter engines would be the closest specs to the original engines, by my estimate."

"Can I kill him now?"

>Orders?
>>
>>26375345
The cluster or the modified lifter engines?
>>
>>26375392
nvm see my error
>>
>>26375345
Hrm. I would say we dip into our rainy day funds and go for the Lifter engines. That would mean 5.5 Wealth would go to Ferrari, yes?
>>
>>26375345
Killing him now would cause our reputation to suffer and deny us the equipment we need, thus reducing our ability to kill people later.

The sprint engines are not an option.
How much could you do with the other two? As in, how well could you adapt them, what would you need to adapt them properly and how long would it take.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the Lifter.
>>
>>26375392
>>26375405

Advinessa does not speak of that heresy.
>>
>>26375433
honestly I still vote Tug, tell Advinessa that she won't be on it all the time and we can't have some idiot like this guy killing everyone.
>>
>>26375421
>>26375418

That would eat up our reserves, if we even have so much. 52.2 you said, right?
>>
>>26375421

"Both systems require modification to the barge, but as the saying is... 'You acquire what you deliver monetary restitution for'... Correct?"
>>
>>26375345

Then we shall get the Lifter engines.

"Please do not kill him. I doubt there are many places in which we can get such parts..."
>>
>>26375493
"Quite. It was good that we contacted you to look things over before making our decision then. Thank you for your time Advinessa." Most people seem to be leaning towards Lifter engines, I think?

I don't like how low the Lifter engine brings us on cash reserves, what if we get damaged or injured. Also the tug is dead is it's not attached to us anyway why waste money.

Still leaning toward Tug
>>
Just had a thought....

That aft section of cruiser.... it had the ships engines in, right???

what is the chance that we could either return to loot them...
Or more realistically, find another battle site and find a more similar ship and steal Its engines?

>>26375648
When we returned the entire after end of the cruiser had been blow to smithereens. They knew we'd been there.

Tug Engines

>>
>>26375648

To strip components from a voidship, you would require a salvage component to be installed upon your ship [or another]

The barge may be ~700m in length, but it's systems are not interchangeable with voidship components aside from the odd small part that may be used in both.

>implying a minning barge has the space for a cruiser engine
Why don you cobble the aft section of the cruiser on your ship for more power then?

To be honest, my group tried that once.....

Usual Q&A while we're still alive here.
>>
>>26375759

Also, I did suggest a more suitable approach of taking an engine from another barge or ship-with-a-barge-compatible-engine....
>>
>>26375662
>Lifter Engines? Near-spec for barge. Will require Rainy Day Funds
>>
>>26375701

I assume that the 'salvage component' will be super rare, super expensive and totally not worth the hassle....

Meh, win some loose some. I'll throw in with the Lifter Engines.... Though could we try haggling? Because at the moment we will be spending 55 wealth, with 5.5 wealth to Senior Ferrari, so a total of 60.5 wealth.... even dropping it to 50 wealth for the engine would lessen the financial burden... Though Ideally we should drop the price to 47 wealth, then the total expenditure would be 51.7, leaving us with 0.5 wealth with an untouched rainy day fund...
>>
>>26376022
Yes, let's try to haggle it down. Advinessa should be more than happy to point out why the pice is too high.
