Our warriors unleash a volley killing both friend and foe and sticking enemies to the ground. They then drag an undead by all of its limbs away from the swamp. They manage to get to the elven settlement and drop it on the ground in front of the guard captain. The guards think that our warriors killed him. Their suspicions are routed when the undead gets up and attacks the guard captain. The undead misses and falls over before the guard captain crushes his skull with his sword. Your warriors proceed to drag the undead all of the way back to the hive.

lurking and seeing it posted and unexplored with each update was driving me to low bandwidth (26.4 Kbps for the last 3 days) madness.
Armor is important but keeping our guys warm and cozy is important as well. Fishermen can fish longer. Hunters can stay out longer - and also have their own
sort of natural camouflage.

The hunters have a great catch. Various deer and chipmunks are caught today

The fishermen didn't have time to prepare a tank for the whale. it is just dumped in where all of the other fish go.

The observers try to make a warning sign, but it doesn't come out very well. It looks like a giant bio-hazard sign.

The workers begin digging another pool for the whale. They manage to finish digging it out, but it needs water.

The houndmasters try to breed bigger wolves and seem to succeed, but these wolves seem more beta than robot 9k.

The Homeguard (90) make and fill all rooms in the hive with doors made of solid stone that slide open and closed. Let's see if the undead can get past that!

The alchemists, noticing that their specimen is no longer (relatively) alive, can't really test its infectiousness in the way that they wanted. They throw Mikey in the hole and make him sleep with the corpse over night to see if he turns but nothing happens.

Reporting in.

Remember to label this Part 8 in the archives later on when we're done for the night.
>>
Scouts: I think they're all dead. If we've had babies, new scouts.
Hunters: Keep up the good work. We'll want to be ready for a siege. Work on trap-making especially, consider how to apply such things for bigger game. Like bears. Or people. Or 9-headed hydras.
Fishermen: Care for the whale. Figure out what it needs.
Warriors: Guard at the edge of the swamp. Try to capture if you fight anything. bring it STRAIGHT HOME.
Scientists: I consider the elves adequately warned in the process of wasting our prisoner. Figure out what good the clothes the scouts brought back are. and then look at all the hides and think of how to make more.
Workers: Fill the pit with water and whatever fish still live in the spawning pit.
Houndmasters: Oh no. Tame mounts. That's only EXACTLY WHAT WE COULD HOPE FOR. Breed 'em bigger until they're mount sized.
Homeguard: We know what doors are! Awesome! Two options, guys. Pick one. Work on insulation, or figure out basic fortifications like arrow slits.
Alchemists: Tan leather. Make it big and thick and durable. Also, make mikey eat some zombie flesh and keep him in the hole for another night. If he doesn't get sick and die, default option for dealing with zombies is cook 'em and throw 'em to the larvae.
Scavengers: Check the woods for trees and find the seeds from them. I get the feeling having a steady supply of lumber might become VERY important.

Okay, so right now we should march to defend the elves or at least establish a forward base to launch attacks on the zombies.

The hunters: put half the meat in the hive's stores, bring another half to the elf village. We're gonna prepare for a seige.
The fishermen: dig that whale pool and try feeding it
Farmers: make sure the hive doesn't starve until the war is over
The observers: bring the sign and plant it between the swamp and town where the elves can see it.
The workers: update the history wall, add a few names. Later, we'll start the memorial room but not now. After the wall is updated, go to the town and dig trenches.
The houndmasters: go to town.
The Homeguard: Guard and help with odd jobs. We're short on hands.
The alchemists: burn the zombie corpse and try to observe those furs
Warriors: defend the town

To the war party: approach carefully and act concerned. We want to help.
To nest: I know people are pulling double duty, but soon we'll have no shortage of hands.
>>
>>26321739
I really, really don't think we need to burn the scientists on planting a sign. Pass it to the warriors that brought back the corpse.
>>
>>26321794
Why should the scientists be anywhere near the zombies?

It should be planted away from the town itself, but where it can be clearly seen as referring to the swamp. A bit away from the sign is where the trenches should be. We're establishing a forward line.
>>
>>26321834
EXACTLY. you're the one saying the scientists action is to plant the sign. Anyone could do that. The scientists are precious. We need them figuring out what clothes are. LOOK AT THE HIDE AND THE STUFF THE ELVES HAD.
>>
>>26321739
Whale pool is already dug, Fishermen can fill it up with water
>>26321834
I think the Scientists should be used to work on language so we can tell the elves what we're doing. Because if you think about it, all of this would be really strange without any explanation
>>
>>26321892
Oh, okay. I see your point. Then have the warriors present the sign to the elvish guard, then go around the town (NOT THROUGH IT) to where the swamp is. Then plant the sign in the ground and start entrenching, nudging the elves into the trenches when possible.

That should convince them what they're for.
>>
>>26321892
With clothes come armor. THat's why alchemists make leather. With armor, comes defense in combat, so we can make shields. Shield+weapon allows for formation fighting. Phalanxes and shit. And we're about to fight a war. we need war tactics.
>>
>>26321931
Completely agree.
>>
Hunters: Keep up the good work. We'll want to be ready for a siege. Work on trap-making especially, consider how to apply such things for bigger game. Like bears. Or people. Or 9-headed hydras.
Fishermen: Care for the whale. Figure out what it needs. Pour some water into the pit and move any remaining fish in there. Assuming the fish aren't good eatan for the whale. If they are, well, go fish and add to both tanks.
Warriors: Guard at the edge of the swamp. Try to capture if you fight anything. bring it STRAIGHT HOME. Post sign.
Scientists: I consider the elves adequately warned in the process of wasting our prisoner. Figure out what good the clothes the scouts brought back are. and then look at all the hides and think of how to make more.
Workers: Trenches. That's a really good idea. Also, try and make some other battlefield fortifications. Fill a pit with pointy sticks.
Houndmasters: Oh no. Tame mounts. That's only EXACTLY WHAT WE COULD HOPE FOR. Breed 'em bigger until they're mount sized. We can breed 'em for viciousness later if that turns out to be desirable, but we need one big enough to ride first.
Homeguard: We know what doors are! Awesome! Figure out basic fortifications like arrow slits.
Alchemists: Tan leather. Make it big and thick and durable. Also, make mikey eat some zombie flesh and keep him in the hole for another night. If he doesn't get sick and die, default option for dealing with zombies is cook 'em and throw 'em to the larvae.

Don't forget the farmers. I have no clue what they could do to help but certainly someone needs help
>>
>>26322044
Food. An army marches on its stomach and, if what I think is going to happen becomes a reality, the elves will be facing a siege soon. The zombies will try to starve them into submission or weakness.

We should prepare to help feed them, or at least give them some food to stockpile.
>>
>>26322044

Farmers: Farm, bring farmed goods to soldiers. While in town, see if there's anything we're growing they aren't, and vice versa. Bring any such thing they are growing back and figure out how to grow it.
>>
>>26322011

>>26322147

>>
>>26322147
Everything at once.
>>
The hunters work on making traps, but none of them seem to work.

The fishermen cake great care of the whale. They feed it all of the smaller fish that they can find. (must continue caring for the whale)

The Houndmasters (107(nat 97)) manage the breed the fieriest dire-wolf mounts you could imagine and experiment with riding them into battle. (we haven't developed any real mele weapons so jousting is not possible at the moment).

The Homeguard try to make arrow slits, but make them the wrong height and size. They're useless as it stands.

The alchemists experiment with tanning, but it's going nowhere fast. They're far to concerned with Mikey eating part of the zombie. Mikey doesn't seem too bad off in there.

The scavengers find various saplings (trees are now reproducible).

The farmers are successful and so is the harvest. There are plenty of crops to feed from and the strongberry supply for the warriors will be a boon in the upcoming war.

The elves, seeing a large war-party of dubstepping insects the size of a humans carrying Javelins and bows, try not to let any of them near the hive. The whole group goes around the city and the warriors show off their camouflage to the elves.

The workers go to dig trenches, but the elves won't let them close enough to the city. The trenches are built out a little further than intended.

The Observers plant the bio-hazard sign somewhere out near the swamp and examine the clothing of the elves, namely the guards who are wearing iron breastplates and have various other leather affixes. The Captain is wearing a very thick leather trench coat. They can see the elves building up fortifications as well.
>>
>>26322219
I think if this does turn to war, we should make Mikey be our bannerman for even more morale

Okay... good... now let's make sure those aren't for us.

Have the workers haul some stone and give them to the elves. Show our work is the same.
>>
Oh, and let's call the Captain "Vimes."
>>
>>26322467

Alright. Quickly, now.

Hunters: Keep at it. Moar hunting. Moar traps.
Fishermen: Keep at it. Go fishing, feed whale. If you have extra fish, throw them in spawning pool.
Houndmasters: Start seeing how fast you can move riding them. If we can't fight on them, at the very least they can be messengers and scouts until we figure out what melee weapons are.
Warriors: Take a look at the swords and stuff the elves have. Think about melee combat.
Homeguard: Blargh. Tell you what. Figure out about personal defense. Think about ways to block something trying to stab you in the face. (Shields)
Alchemists: Keep up the good work. Let mikey out, but keep an eye, and an armed guard, on him. Celebrate him as a hero of the hive for his sacrifices.
Scavengers: I honestly don't know. Help, guys?
Farmers: Keep up the farming. If there's a spare plot of land, perhaps try planting some saplings?
Workers: Dig for shiny metals
Observers: Look at the shiny metal. Figure out how they turned the ore into shiny metal.
>>
>>26322671
The workers really should try to help the elves. An enemy wouldn't help build a city's defenses.
>>
>>26322671
I want to say, for the scavengers, to try and find battlefields and loot bodies. But i'm not sure if there are any of those yet. Have the elves fought the zombies?
>>
>>26322687
They won't let us near. We need to linguistic first. But i want us to have swords, or lances, immediately. Because we have DIRE WOLVES.
>>
>>26322707
Well, if we give them stone, we might avoid a misunderstanding.
>>
>>26322671
Workers leave stone near elves, Scavengers help them, and Observers get linguistic?
>>
Scavengers could also work on crafting shiny gifts like we gave them when we first met them. We give them those with the stone.
>>
>>26322729
>>26322671
Yes, I think this is good. The observers could at least learn basic elvish from commands like "stop."
>>
>>26322690

We have no idea whether or not the elves knew about this.
>>
>>26322770
Have we SEEN any battlefields?
>>
We should send Mikey and one Armed guard to see where the zombies are headed because we don't know if they were headed towards the town or not.
>>
>>26322782
Yes, the swamp was a battlefield long ago, but you wouldn't have recognized that because there were so many undead.
>>
>>26322914
So, guys. Scavenger+warriors for raiding party? See if we can't pick up any equipment from battlefields for copying back home?
>>
>>26322914
Also the queen laid 90 eggs

You will need 90 geneweavers total to keep them effective. That means you have 66 more newborns to assign and a huge food burden on the hive.
>>
>>26322962
Farmers are working their asses off, then. As are the hunters.
>>
>>26322962
We can assign something with basic gene-weaving to a different caste, right?
>>
>>26322962
Also, i'd say 16 scouts, 18 more farmers, 11 more observers, 10 more alchemists, 10 more hunters, and 1 more worker.
>>
>>26323001
You can assign something with geneweaving to a different caste though it doesn't add any bonuses to the caste. Geneweaving is strictly a mutation bonus. Geneweavers themselves are a caste of their own. Newer bugs can go to any caste.
>>
>>26323001
I think they're just kind of passive
So what's our plan going to be for this next turn?
>>
>>26323042
Plan is >>26322671 with workers gifting stone to elves.

>>26323014
I don't think we should have that many scouts. 10 at the most. 24 farmers, total.
>>
>>26323042
Hunters: Keep at it. Moar hunting. Moar traps.
Fishermen: Keep at it. Go fishing, feed whale. If you have extra fish, throw them in spawning pool.
Houndmasters: Start seeing how fast you can move riding them. If we can't fight on them, at the very least they can be messengers and scouts until we figure out what melee weapons are.
Warriors: Protect a party of scavengers going to that battlefield in the swamp. See if you can't recover anything to see what we're fighting against... and any weapons or armor that might be lying around.
Scavengers: Go with the warriors in a raid. Loot battlefields.
Farmers: Keep up the farming. If there's a spare plot of land, perhaps try planting some saplings?
Workers: Dig for shiny metals
Observers: Look at the shiny metal. Figure out how they turned the ore into shiny metal.
>>
>>26323098
Right. Sorry. Workers: Bring Stone to Elves
>>
>>26323098

And what about Mikey? He's a caste by himself
>>

>>
GOALS:

Get hands on any of the following weapons. Preferably all of them: AXE. SWORD. LANCE. SPEAR.

Learn to communicate and hopefully trade with elves.

IRON. DAMMIT.

Figure out the use of armor and shields.

Tan leather. Make more use out of our hunting.

Figure out proper battlefield fortification.

Tame the whale. Sail the whale.
>>
>>26323206
Sounds good.

So how's everyone doing this fine Tuesday Early Morning?
>>
The hunters don't seem to catch too much or have any headway in making traps.

The fishermen don't have the best catch and feed what they can to the whale.

The houndmasters can ride pretty fast on their wolves. Perhaps they would be good for messengers or out-runners.

The warriors lead a party into the swamp where they meet the undead army marching towards town. They start their volley while the scouts rush to be able to loot the fallen. Some undead go down, but there are so many to replace them. The scavengers couldn't manage to get enough equipment to really value.

The homeguard try to craft armor out of stone but it is too heavy to be used in combat.

The alchemists celebrate Mikey as a hero, but don't seem to get much else done.

The farmers continue farming. They plant more edible crops and get it all ready to grow.

The workers have too much trouble transporting all of the stone.

The observers don't know how the metal became so shiny. They assume it was mined from somewhere.

Lots of bad rolls this turn
>>
Yikes. Might want to try to do those tasks again.
>>
>>26323317

We haven't scouted south of the Villiage.

>>26323409
The map is as big as the minecraft wold.
>>
Hunters: Keep at it. Moar hunting. Moar traps.
Fishermen: Keep at it. Go fishing, feed whale. If you have extra fish, throw them in spawning pool.
Houndmasters: Go with the scouts. You can cover ground better, and we don't need you yet. If see threat, run away, report back is priority.
Scouts: Go North.
Warriors: Look at the melee weapons the elves have. Think about melee weapons. Figure out something. Come on, guys.
Homeguard: Blargh. Tell you what. Figure out about personal defense. Think about ways to block something trying to stab you in the face. (Shields)
Alchemists: Leather.
Scavengers: Fuckit. Search the shore for anything useful or interesting.
Farmers: Keep up the farming. If there's a spare plot of land, perhaps try planting some saplings?
Workers: Bring Stone to Elves. Try to trade for information, weapons and or armor. Not a bunch. Just examples. Use Log Rollers
Observers: Try to figure out how to talk to the damn elves. Sit down with paint and some boards and start exchanging pictures and sounds until you can make basic communication

And geneweavers are to work on that mutation.
>>

Mikey: Feed the whale and pet him
Are the Houndmasters going to be riding their new mounts?
>>
>>26323582
Yes. That speed will let them cover more ground with the scouts.
>>
Hounds should help move stone.
>>
>>26323589
Then I agree whole-heartedly
If the log rollers work with the stone, we can use them to roll the whale back out to sea once we deem it sea-worthy
>>
>>26323651
Dude, we have to figure out the wheel, vehicles, and reins and so much shit before we can do that. Let's... not put the cart before the horse.
>>
>>26323690
Pretty much what he said. It all depends on those success rolls.

Everyone agree on the course of action?

North of what exactly?
>>
>>26323828
I'm down with the current plans, and North of the Hive probably

That is pretty huge.

The Cryo-Hydra, maybe?
Let's see what's beyond that thing.
>>
>>26323828
The hive?
>>
and where are we assigning the 54 new bugs?
>>
>>26324030
I thought we already did that.
>>
>>26323014
Right here.
>>
>>26324050
Oh sorry, I missed that.

The hunters still don't manage to perfect later traps and their catch is abysmal.

The fishermen still don't catch much either. There is no left over fish.

The scouts and houndmasters go north of the hive. The place bottoms out and turns into sprawling plains. This place looks ripe for farmland.

The warriors examine the mele weapons that the elves have. Small, intricately made swords. These work great for the elves, but would it work for us?

The homeguard figure out how to block incoming attacks with wooden armor. This should serve as great protection from attacks from foot soldiers.

The alchemists develop a tanning process using various things from stones to herbs that makes the leather much harder. This material can now be used in making armor.

The scavengers don't find anything useful on the shore.

The farmers, (natural 99) manage to come up with a way of mixing up crops so that they help keep the land firtile, protect against disease, and grow slightly faster. This alone is enough to feed the hive this turn.
>>
Workers?
>>
>>26324433
The workers still don't manage to get the stone to the elves but they're getting closer.

The observers pick up on elven symbols and start to emulate them.
>>
Alright. That's good enough to end tonight.

Are the workers half way there?
>>
>>26324448
Yeah, I posted and realized I forgot them and the observers.
>>
>>26324474
Something like that. They got some bad rolls. Let me get the stats in before the archive
>>
>>26324433
So I take it Mikey didn't get to feed the whale?

The fishermen didn't get a good catch so no.
>>
Things to remember for next time:

We have leather now. First order of business should be to make armor out of it.

The alchemists should be working with the ex-firetenders to figure out how to smelt ore.

The observers need to open up lines of communication before ANYTHING ELSE HAPPENS.

We need melee weapons. The moment we have them, call back the hounds. As then we have our first advantage on the elves and undead, mounted troops. Vicious, biting mounts.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ONCE WE FINISH OUR CURRENT MUTATION, HIVEMIND!
>>
>>26324569
Also we need to do something about Mikey, I think he's cursing our rolls
