seriously, he has actually said in a WD commentary article that one of the reasons he loves Space Wolves so much, and has an army of them, is because he believes them to be the super "true-hero marines" of 40k

Samus shoots a small black hole, followed by a miniature Sun and a rip in reality.
Space Marine ends up in the Warp while being boiled and ripped apart, but somehow survives and comes back two minutes later because Warp time.
Then Samus uses the screw attack and a power bomb.

...Seriously, the only reason for a Space Marine to win would be plot armor.
Not to mention that Samus can just steal their equipment if it's in any way superior. Imagine the nice upgrade she'd get from the composite SM.
>>
>>26308859
>Composite Samus Aran

Gotta go with Samus. More flexibility.

Ice Beam, Wave Beam (emp), Annihilator Beam, Phazon Suit, Phazon in general, enough visors to pierce any camouflage, Power Bombs, the always invincible Screw Attack, morph ball abilities for maneuverability and a quick escape, kick ass space ship with auto pilot, sonic attacks...the list just goes on and on.

I see the battle as Samus sneaking up on the marine and taking out half his armor before he can even get a bead on her...and at that point, it's already over.
>>
space marine.

because fuck weeaboo nintendan characters >:(
>>
>>26309082
I wouldn't say she's more agile. The Space Marine is on par with her in terms of abilities.

Wait, how does that work? Why can't she drop bombs in the normal mode, where did all the details on the suit ( her helmet, the cannon, the 'scales' on the abdomen beneath the chest, those GIGANTIC pauldrons) disappear to, how can a human being roll themselves around after pressing everything that could give them forward motion into a tight ball?
>>

The suit works like a henshin ability. She can summong it at will. So it can easily transform into the morph ball shape.
Samus herself seems to transform into energy.

Yanno, this might just work.
Hell, given all the tricks and tools of Chzo tech, she might have been mistaken for a female Vulcan.
Can you imagine it, going around the galaxy seeking out parts of the lost armour? It would be just like finding Vulcan's lost toys, but only the chapter master could do it because they wear the sacred, hereditary armour.
>>
>>26309396
The suit's made by a race of aliens who came up against the greatest predator in existence, engineered a lifeform specifically to destroy it and then got bored so they gave up having physical forms and moved to a higher plane of existence

I think he's saying it's the other way around. The Chozo came across X, and developed the Metroid species to deal with them, since the fusion suit is half Metroid and it can eat the X like it's nothing.
>>
>>26309489
Parasite X WAS said predator, able to take over and assimilate any lifeform it came into contact with, they built the Metroids to dispose of it permanently by EATING it.
>>
>>26309519
>But how are marines vs radiation?
40k gets by the whole 'radiation thing' by never mentioning anything about it.

Though iirc, Vespid have a somewhat 'radiation gun' (Neutron Blaster), that kills marines pretty good.

>>
I wonder how the Galactic Federation would fare against the Imperium.
They do have energy shielding on everything and lots of reverse-engineered Chozo stuff.
>>
>>26309597
Eh, true.
Maybe that's why it's a stricken chapter though, because she uses that tech.
>>
>>26309489
It's the other way around. The Chozo developed the Metroids in order to combat the naturally occurring X on their native world.
>>
>>26309597
Maybe not those boring Vanilla "Canon" Chapters...
>>
>>26309645
>>26309656

>>
>>26309647
And then the end of Fusion implied that the X might be able to develop a conscience or at least the ability for rational thought.
Which might mean that they aren't that dangerous after all.

You also forgot the irony of Samus exterminating all Metroids. Bonus points for the fact that "Metroid" is basically her role. And then was was literally partially Metroid after becoming infected by the X because she wiped out the Metroids that her adoptive parents created in the first place to combat the X.

They say that 12 Guardsman are a match for your average Space Marine.
I'd say that Samus, with minimal equipment, could take more than double that amount.
With MAXIMUM equipment, I'd say she'd be in line to take down somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 or so Guardsman.

There is NO comparison between Miss Aran and any single unit in 40K

Now imagine Samus on a crusade against the Emperor because he wiped out her OTHER set of parents.
That's something I'd love to map out. She'd likely start by raiding a Blood Raven armory for useful upgrades.
Then she'd raid a few Necron tombs and try negotiating for Eldar tech... Until the Eldar turn out to be assholes and get fucked sideways.
She could even get upgrades from the Tyranid forces.
And once she'd sufficiently prepared, she'd step through the warp directly onto Terra.

The space marine has one organ implanted in them that helps them deal with some levels of radiation. I doubt the ability could withstand weaponized radiation though. Samus is still the winner.

I dislike Space Marines but Samus would not win. Samus doesn't have the heightened natural abilities of a Space Marine - it's Chozo DNA that is pretty much the only salient ability, which is pretty much just for suit interfacing. Her weapons aren't that strong, especially since they often have trouble with combating Space Pirates/Federation armor; putting them on the tier of bolt weapons would be dubious at best.

And more importantly, she is too fearful and emotional. In her latest appearance she freaked the fuck out when confronted with Ridley and would have died if not for the interference of a random black dude. The suit's structural integrity, moreover, is as of her latest game highly dependent on her emotional state - when she got shot in the back by an unaugmented human she was K.O.ed instantly.

She can't do it.

Well, it depends on how you interpret the sunburst and darkburst beam missile combos from metroid prime 2.

The darkburst is a little hole to another dimension that sucks nearby shit into it. It moves really slowly though, kind of like a sphere of annihilation or something along those lines.

Sunburst is similar in that it's a big glowing ball that moves really slowly, but it's just really hot and bright and burns the shit out of everything it touches.

Both require prohibitively large amounts of beam ammo and missiles to use.
>>
>>26309797
>They're actually really shitty since they are so expensive and slow.
Better than the flamethrower, though.
And the Sonic Boom actually works decently well. It's just fucking expensive.

MP2 is the only game where we saw an ammo system. It was also the game where Samus was shooting rips into reality and small black holes.
Think about that for a moment. What does this imply for her capabilities if she uses external energy sources? She collects the ammo from fallen enemies.
She can power higher calibres of her weaponry with the souls of her enemies. And these higher calibres basically scale her up into Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander territory.
She only uses weapons with unlimited ammo because she has no support. With support, she'd be free to use all kinds of insane equipment.
Maybe that's why she doesn't cloak - It would require additional energy management.

One, I strongly object to including Other M at all, because that is a shit game to begin with and an abomination of a Metroid game. Metroid fans think of Other M like Type Moon fans think of the Tsukihime anime.

Two, she got shot once in the back while her defenses were down because she trusted the guy, whereas in a battle she would never do that (see: every Metroid game, in which she gets shot by damn near everything and takes a bit of damage).

And three, fuck the emotional breakdown, that was against an enemy that KILLED HER PARENTS. Nevermind that she'd wiped the floor with him some six times by that point already, chronologically. God I fucking hate Other M.

If we're taking everything from every game, the bonuses far outweigh the two moments of weakness Other M showed. Between the myriad of suits, beams, missiles, visors, et al, Samus is pretty much godmode hax.

It's the latest, explicitly canon iteration of Samus we have, and the only one to give any read on her emotional state at all. You may not like the writing - and that's a good thing, because it's badly written! - but it is the most authoritative thing we have.

Gameplay power, which is lenient for ease of play, has to be weighed against cutscenes as well. I take cutscenes with more weight, which is problematic for Samus as even in games outside of Other M she's been sucker-punched by some seriously mooky enemies, and she doesn't have nearly the resilience displayed in-game. Meanwhile, Movie Marine bullshit is off the charts.

Samus is hax relative to the caliber of her own games, I don't think she can take the stupid SM bullshit at all.
>>
>>26310030
Well, he doesn't usually go at that speeds, not that it'd matter since Space Marines don't go at that speed anyway.
He's quite durable too anyway.
>>
>>26310032
I prefer if I can respect her without losing the fanservice.
Other M was fucking degrading, but she doesn't have to be ugly or hide herself in a burka to be badass. It's not like she's nude in combat - She's only doing it when it's practical.
>>
>>26310024

Nope, Samus is distracted by the deadly Metroid in front of her, and then Adam strolls out from behind a pillar and shoots her. For basically no reason, too.
>>
>>26309938
No, he /can/ kill them. That means he has the ability to. It does not mean that he has the means to.
At his hypest Tohno ran on walls and jumped off of the ceiling to get in range to attack Akiha, and he still took a heavy blow. Satsujinki is basically him at 100% 100% of the time.
He's basically an Eversor with maxed out movement and agility, lower toughness, an accurate death attack, and an invuln save. He might take out a composite space marine if he's lucky, but a good Servant is too hard unless he gets the drop on them.
>>
>>26310048
Didn't Other M also reduce her height?
>>
>>26310036
>the only one to give any read on her emotional state at all.
Did you forget her small wave after she saves the Luminoth?
Or the moment when she looks at the ruins of Talon IV's Impact Crater?
Or in MP3, where she vomits and goes on with her business?
Or when she raids a Pirate base in Zero Mission?

And as a side note:
She has plenty "movie marines" bullshit going on in the cutscenes. She can kill pirates with uncharged shots in MP3's cutscenes, for example.
>>
>>26310048
You make an excellent point.
I cede the discussion to you.
>>
>>26310036
While you've hidden your Marine Fanboyism well, your sockpuppeting has given you away...

Considering when I picture "Rule 63 Space Marine" I see Samus FUCKING Aran, I would at the VERY least give her equal footing to an Armored Super Soilder who is often brought down by standing in the way of a thousand flashlights.
>>
>>26310087

These examples are little details, not story focal points that I'm persuaded are designed to give any special insight on her emotional state.

...and 'killing pirates with uncharged shots' isn't exactly what I'd call impressive. It's not like we're talking about Dante from Devil May Cry or anything, which is about what I'd need to see to seriously consider Samus in this matchup.
>>
>>26310083
She's 6'9".
She's supposed to be the tallest human in any given room, but she wasn't anywhere near the tallest in Other M.
So yes, they did.
>>
>>26310072
Which I think he would since doesn't he "ping" as regular human? Similar to how servants treated Shiro until they learned that he could actually kill them?

All of my type moon knowledge is either secondhand or from hanging out in the Fate-Zero threads. So I'm probably way off base.
>>
>>26310142
And that's outside her suit, by the way.
I think her suit slaps another few inches on her.
>>
>>26310116

I really, really, *really* dislike Space Marines, not least of which because I think the 'no women allowed' thing is dumb as all shit. Resorting to that kind of ad hominem isn't going to change my opinion, however, which I can keep separate from my personal feelings on the matter. Just because it 'feels' like Samus should be able to match up with the marines doesn't mean that is necessarily logical.
>>
>>26310116
Equal footing is laughable in that regard, considering Samus is a named character and 'a space marine' is a power-wank mook.
>>
>>26310083

There was never exactly a canon number to begin with- just a very doubtfully canon Nintendo Power page that said she was 6'3 with the suit on. In Other M she's ~5'4, though, without the suit.
>>
>>26310137
>which is about what I'd need to see to seriously consider anything taking on Samus in this matchup.
Fixed.
>>
>>26310072
You're forgetting the fact that he can make 16 attacks in under a second.
See: Where he killed Arcueid.
Now with every one of those attacks being instantly one of the following, if it hits,
1) Debilitating
2) Instant death
3) Amputating

How could a Space Marine ever stand a chance?
>>
Samus crushes it. Samus' suit is ludicrously better, even if she wasn't personally (and she's pretty much equivalent).
>>
>>26310137
Regular Pirate = Regular Guardsman
And those moments are anything but little.
They are the few informing moments we had in an otherwise completely stoic character.
When we did see them, we were supposed to know their gravity by their rarity.
>>
>>26310171
>>26310176
I'd prefer if they'd make a compromise.
The American sources aren't exactly the most sane ones, anyway. We also had the entire "bounty hunter" miscommunication.
>>
>>26309862
Flamethrower is alright in the Wii version I understand. It's just that the Plasma beam is so strong it doesn't need the help..

Only the Super missile and the occasional tactical Wavebuster is useful. The ice one only gets a mention for being damn effective on the end boss.
>>
>>26310227

Pirate = Guardsman is again a dubious proposition for me, but that's not really here nor there (any shot from a marine is going to shred a guardsman like tissue paper so it's not terribly important).

Meanwhile, I feel like you're overthinking this - the Metroid games prior to Other M other than *maybe* Fusion just aren't story driven on any appreciable level. I simply don't think they're putting that much thought into it as it relates to Samus's overall personality.
>>
>>26310281
>Wii version
The Wii version downgrades basically everything else, though.
>>
>>26310172
Look, it's not about how much firepower or armor one has over the other...
It's MINDSET!

Samus is THE HUNTER while Space Marines, for all their martial prowess, often resort to methods that are tactically INSANE.

>>26310173
Yes, but I'm arguing with a Closet Marine fanboy here, who doesn't seem to realise Marines often die in HUGE numbers due to their lack of common sense.
>>
>>26310176
>just a very doubtfully canon Nintendo Power page that said she was 6'3 with the suit on.

No, it's been mentioned elsewhere that she stands out of armor at somewhere in the 6' mark. I think I recall seeing somewhere that it was even reconfirmed by the creator.
>>
>>26309751
>She'd likely start by raiding a Blood Raven armory for useful upgrades.

"Chapter Master Angelos, I come baring news!"
"Speak, Apollo"
"Sir, we detected an intruder in the armory, we believe they were after our wargear"
"This is terrible Apollo! Why was I not informed earlier? Was it ork lootas, heretics, dissidents?"
"No sir, that's the odd thing, the intruder took them and seemed to integrate it into their suit!"
"Apollo…are you saying they managed to steal our equipment's essence, yet leave the original behind?"
"Exactly si…Sir, why are you crying? At least I think you are, it's difficult to tell with that augmetic"
"Apollo, my dear captain, we have found them at last!"
"Who, sir?"
"Think, Apollo, A being with the ability to steal wargear, yet leave the victim none the wiser! Our Primarch has returned!"
>>
>>26310083
From 6'3" to 5'4" without the suit, yeah.
>>
>>26310316

I don't think the strategic lapses endemic to the Astartes are really going to come into play in this 1v1, no other details scenario. Nothing suggests that to me, at any rate, though if you'd like to illustrate it with further explanation I'd be much obliged.

...meanwhile it's not like Samus doesn't have her share of tactical mistakes as well. I can't see a decisive argument favoring her.
>>
>>26310342
>steal
Other than that, an enjoyable read.
>>
>>26310316
Well, lack of common sense is part of it. Indeed the major reason marines are actually portrayed with such rampant amounts of power-wank, is because of dev/writer bias and absurd notions of shit like '1 tac squad killing millions of dark eldar'. In many ways, Black Library was on of the worst things ever when it came to the fanbase's perceived marine powerlevel.
>>
>>26310357
She's also a genetically enhanced super-soldier, with better power armor and more experience.
>>
>>26310316
>Marines often die in HUGE numbers due to their lack of common sense.

Not the guy you're replying to, but the only example I can think of for Marines getting stupid numbers of themselves killed off the top of my head is in Soulstorm. I kinda thought that Space Marines don't lose many men when it all goes horribly wrong due to the fact that they tend to not deploy many troops in the first place?
>>
>>26310357

Marines are genetically enhanced, to much further extremes than Samus. They're also the kind of things a 12 year old would come up with (HE'S GOT TWO HEARTS AND SPITS ACID), but nevertheless.

I don't see an argument for her power armor being better, certainly not better than the best the marines could get access to. I know we haven't dwelled too much on their capabilities, but Artificer armor, Terminators, Dreadknights, these things have a lot more fluff on them and their stunning resilience, while Samus's has been pretty chumpy on more than one occasion.

And Samus definitely doesn't have more experience, that's crazy. Marines live and fight for hundreds of years.
>>

The japs are all crazy short anyway. Having a girl at 170cm means giant, something like 6'3" is probably not within the realm of their imagination.

Samus was engineered specifically to survive on Zebes. A place where the rain is acid and the wildlife that of a death world.

>>
>>26310586

None of these things even come close to the described firepower of something like a Warhound Titan. They're big things, sure, but they're more akin to like Sentinel Walkers or maybe Dreadnoughts if you wanted to be really charitable. They simply don't display destructive magnitude on that level.

Again, acting as if things are self-evident does not make it so. Your arguments are incensed, but they are not persuasive.
>>
>>26310652
>Dreadnoughts if you wanted to be really charitable.

4/10
>>
>>26310643

I'm not moving the goalposts; we are still contending with your initial claim that a marine has no defense against the plasma/wave beam (it's obviously untrue given that force fields exist, but to continue deconstruction).

More importantly, where is the source in Metroid Fusion? Where is it cited, in-game?
>>
>>26310637
She's genetically engineered. She basically went through her universe's space marine treatment.
>>
>>26310643
Actually, you said that a combined plasma wave beam could destroy any and all organic or inorganic matter. That is for all intents and purposes everything that exists as if something is not made of matter it does not exist on this plane.
>>
So now that we've settled that, who's up for Lost Primarch Samus fluffing?
>>
>>26310704
In game description of the Plasma Beam and Adam's comments on it when it's described.

And yes, it is moving the goalposts, since
>marine has no defence against it
is different from
>destroy literally anything and everything
unless the marine can make tactical use of 20 metres of rock and fight Samus at the same time.
>>
Forgot the technology aspect, Samus Aran is the only human being to ever survive being infected by an X Parasite, a species so deadly that they could easily infect and wipe out Tyranids and The Flood from Halo. Then she extincted them.

She also wiped out the Metroids, the only race that's actually able to kill X Parasites. Her job is to kill things that shouldn't be kill-able.
>>
>>26310762
But could she kill Shiki?
>>

>>
>>26310704
>Where is it cited, in-game?
When you are told that Sa-X is immune to anything except for the penetrative abilities of the Plasma beam. Not to mention that the plasma beam penetrates enemies ingame.
The Wave beam is specifically used to shoot through inorganic matter.
You are moving your fucking goalposts because no matter-based defense will stop these weapons. They will go through the ceramite, through the skin, the bones, the inner organs, while destroying/damaging all of it along the way.
The Iron Halo is an entirely different matter, especially as the SA-X is weak to plasma, which might mean that it also penetrates shielding.
>>
>>26310762
>Then she extincted them.

She just destroyed the space station.

Leman Russ attacked her for using Xeno tech and accepting aid from Xenos.
While shorter than her brother, her inventive use of her abilities and agility allowed her to gain the upper hand and soundly defeated him, yet refrained from a killing blow in the knowledge that killing him would lead to her legion being annihilated without mercy.

Worried at the safety of her legion, she contacted Magnus the Red, being aware that the two brothers had no love for each other, and asked him to keep her legion safe.
Magnus agreed, and inducted them into his legion, and then created the Corvidae cult so that they might continue their sacred mission.

After this, she took her Advanced assault craft and led the pursuing Space Wolves in a deco mission. Unfortunately, she ventured too close to a warp drift and was taken to places unknown.

When the heresy struck, the Blood Ravens, unsure if they should back those who persecuted their primarch, but concerned that she would never ally with such despicable beings, remained neutral to the conflict.
When it became clear that the Imperium was a necessary evil, they agreed to safeguard it for when their Leader returns.

As with all knowledge in the Imperium of man, the Blood Ravens slowly lost their knowledge of their Primach. Initially it was barred for their own protection, with only the captains an the chapter master being aware of it, but attrition took it's toll, and they eventually lost their knowledge.

Until recently, they knew their sacred task of retrieving relics, but did not know why. With the discovery of the Kronus artifacts, the truth has become clear.

Now Chapter Master Angelos, First Captain Diomedes, Captain Thule and Captain Vanile Cryo are the only living Blood Ravens that retain knowledge of the lost primarch.
They await her return, none shall find them wanting when she does.

Variety of Body Shape I'll give you, but realise I'm trying to pack all the organs that make a regular marine so X-BAWK HUEG into a nominally proportional female body...
Torso cavity needs to be scaled up for that else they're all squat and stubby...
Do realise that I do have them mechanically weaker because of their lanker frames however...

"Brother Bjorn, we know you dislike speaking of the pre heresy events, we have something that we wish to discuss in light of our recent discoveries"

PROVIDED IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU KNOW FUCKING WHO, I'M FINE

"It may relate tangentially, Brother, it concerns the missing Primarchs, and one in particular, the Primarch Aran"

WAIT, HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT SAMUS? EVEN I ONLY KNEW ABOUT THAT ONE BECAUSE FUCKING LEMAN WAS TOO HUNGOVER TO PUT HIS SUIT ON WHEN HE VISITED ZEBES AND I WAS THE NEAREST GUY. SERIOUSLY, MILLIONS OF FUCKING SERFS WHO WOULD CREAM THEMSELVES TO SERVE HIM AND HE PICKS ME? FUCKING PRICK.

"erm, yes, well anyway, We discovered the knowledge on the planet Kronus, and we wish to hear your input"

FINE, I'LL DO IT. BUT ONLY BECAUSE I LIKED HER

"Wait, you did? Why? i thought the missing primarchs were traitors"

WHY DO YOU THINK? SHE MADE LEMAN LOOK LIKE A DICKHEAD AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY.
FIRST TIME THEY MET, HE SLAPPED HER ON THE ASS AND ASKED FOR A QUICK FUCK. SHE RESPONDED BY CHUCKING HIM OUT A WINDOW.
HE TRIED TO PRETEND HE LET HER WIN, BUT WE ALL KNEW DIFFERENT. LION WAS TRYING SO FUCKING HARD NOT TO LAUGH

"While this is interesting brother, can we hear more of the raid on Zebes?
The one started due to accusations of Xeno tech?

XENO TECH? IS THAT WHAT YOU HEARD?

"Is that not what happened?"

FUCK NO!
LEMAN WAS TRYING TO SCORE YET AGAIN AND GOT SHOT DOWN. SERIOUSLY, SHE WAS HIS SISTER, DID HE HAVE NO SHAME?
SORRY, BACK ON TRACK, HE GOT HAMMERED AND STUMBLED OVER HER ARMOURY.

NOW YOU MAY NOT KNOW, BUT SAMUS WAS FAMOUS IN HER SECTOR FOR BEING A ONE WOMAN DEATH MACHINE. NOT EVEN MAGNUS "OH SORRY, WAS THAT YOUR TITAN" THE RED HAS SHIT ON HER.
HER WEAPONRY WAS PHENOMENAL, AND WE NEVER KNEW WHERE SHE GOT IT FROM
TURNED OUT THAT SHE WAS CAPABLE OF INCORPORATING WEAPONRY INTO HER POWER ARMOUR. FUCK KNOWS HOW IT WAS DONE.
NOW EVEN LEMAN WAS SMART ENOUGH TO SMELL XENO TECH, SO HE STOMPED OFF AT FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO CONFRONT HER

There's no reason to think they're extinct. They're just not on Pandora anymore, so it is -assumed- they're extinct, as they haven't been found anywhere else. Borderlands 2 confirmed that there are only 6 human-populated galaxies in the universe, though, so they could still have galaxy-spanning empires elsewhere, and nobody would know.

Actual spoilers:
And the ending of Borderlands 2 confirmed that they were a hyper-advanced spacefaring race that dotted the galaxy you play in with dozens of Vaults.

I'm also predicting that the entire backstory of Sanctuary and Dahl's failed mining operations, indeed the entire Caustic Caverns area, was to set up in explicit terms that the protagonists now have the galaxy's most advanced mining colony ship, specifically to serve as a base of operations/transport in Borderlands 3 when you're implied to be planet-hopping between various Vault sites.

Leman- "...What?"

Samus- *Begins supressing the giggles, fails horribly.*

Leman-"S-stop laughing! I was in the Warp a long time, OK! I discover things about myself and shit..."

Samus-*Uproariously laughing at this point.*

Leman- "QUIT IT, I'M THE ALPHA WOLF HERE, THE ALPHA WOLF!!!"

"and then?"

WHAT DO YOU THINK? HE WAS ON THE ASS END OF ANOTHER ASS KICKING.
BUT SHE WAS IN TROUBLE, SHE KNEW THAT EVEN SHE COULDN'T GET AWAY WITH THIS SHIT, AND SHE COULD NEVER GET AWAY WITH KILLING A PRIMARCH WHO, DESPITE BEING AN ASSHOLE, WAS FULFILLING THE EMPEROR'S WISHED.

"What did she do?"

WELL FIRST OFF, SHE GOT HER LEGION THE FUCK OUT OF THERE, SHE MUST HAVE HAD SOME DEAL WITH SOMEONE, BECAUSE WE NEVER SAW THE FUCKERS AGAIN.
THEN SHE TOOK POT SHOTS AT LEMAN'S FLAGSHIP, AND BUGGERED OFF TO GO ON A DISTRACTION MISSION.
TRAGICALLY, THE WARP IS AN UNSTABLE BITCH AT THE BEST OF TIMES, AND THIS WAS A PARTICULARLY TURBULENT ONE. SHE WENT THROUGH THE WARP AND WE NEVER SAW HER AGAIN.
HOPE SHE'S ALRIGHT.
MAYBE SHE'S BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF LEMAN IN THE WARP AS WE SPEAK

"fascinating! This really helps seal the holes in the Kronus archive! Now, one more question, what can you tell me about her Legion"

NOT MUCH TO SAY REALLY, THEY DID THE JOB LIKE ALL OTHERS. WEIRD THAT THEY HAD A FEMALE PRIMARCH AND MALE MARINES, BUT THAT'S HOW THE EMPEROR ROLLS.

"Are you sure, was there nothing else?"

NOW YOU MENTION IT, AND NOW I RECALL THAT XENO TECH, MAYBE THERE WAS CREDENCE TO ONE RUMOUR I HEARD

"what was that"

THERE WAS A STRANGE TENDENCY FOR THE WORLDS SAMUS' LEGION CONQUERED TO BE SCOURED FROM ANY TECHNOLOGY. NOW I RECALL HER ABILITY TO ASSIMILATE TECH, I THINK I KNOW WHERE IT WENT.
IT ALSO EXPLAINS THE RUMOUR THAT HER MARINES WERE THIEVING LITTLE SHITS, IF HALF THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE, THEY'D STEAL THE BOLTS RIGHT OUT OF…OF
WAIT A MINUTE…

"brother? why are you staring at your paint job?"

YOU CHEEKY LITTLE FUCKERS.

I think it's more screencap worthy for future Samus/Blood Raven related threads

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Other M take place, literally, right after Super Metroid in the chronology?

Like, the tutorial area you're in at the beginning is right after her debriefing of the incident, including the baby metroid, which is why they have the baby's DNA to clone into a queen metroid.

Unless all of the Prime games happen before Super Metroid, that is.

I mean, I'm no scholar on the chronology, but... I guess I'm asking you to elaborate, more than anything.

The Prime games do indeed precede Super.

Op here. if I am not mistaken. Metroid timeline is:

Metroid 1, Prime Series, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Other M, Metroid Fusion.

Fusion is the last chronological Metroid

Well, holy shit. Makes less sense, now, that she lost her shit when she saw him. Though, she may have just assumed that he was dead for good after the incident in Super Metroid. It doesn't account for the whole, "oh god, flip the fuck out, lapse into PTSD," thing, but I could see a short moment of, "I thought you were dead," style shock after seeing him.

Followed closely by some, "let's fix that, shall we," style reassurance since she's done it so many times, now. Seriously, Other M's writing was terrible. To get any enjoyment out of it, you have to ignore, or completely skip over, most of the cutscenes.
>>
>>26312380

Other M's writing is so bad that you almost anticipate getting back to the painfully linear and simplistic gameplay. It's like the game itself is trying to play good-cop-bad-cop with you.
>>
The most fucked up part of Samus' arsenal, the Light and Dark beams of Prime 2, is not that she fires singularities of both the "infinitely hot" and "depthless void" varieties. It's that she's firing the axiomatic extremes of good and evil. Aether is not split on "phase wavelength" technobabble terms, it is split between "healthy planet, thriving ecosystem" and "twisted nightmarish Tim Burton production" terms. The D&D equivalent would be the different between Prime Material plane and the Plane of Shadow. And she's -shooting it-. From a -gun-. The Dark Beam's charge shots actually lash out and cling to enemies, slowing them and causing damage over time as it saps their life force.

The "Sonic Boom" attack, that requires both Light and Dark beam ammunition to fire? It's Sonic in name only, and only because of the rippling shockwaves and audible explosion when it goes off give it a faint visual similarity to a sonic effect. The description specifies that she is actually -ripping reality- which is why "fractures" appear alongside the shockwaves.

Samus is shooting, as a linear beam, what happens when you put a Portable Hole into a Bag of Holding.

The thing is, they did it for the worst reason, ever: Marketing.

They made her shorter, less muscled, hell, overall less of an actual strong female character, and more in line with Japan's idea of what femininity is, because it wasn't selling well in Japan. She wasn't what Japan wanted to see when they heard the words, "strong female character," so they overhauled her to make her fit, and made her an antagonistic, emotionless little shit who shuts up and listens whenever someone above her says something in the process.

Her ability to throw anomalies at target isn't what protects her from hostile environments, but it does give Samus the edge against the inhabitants.
>>
>>26312794
Her protection against the warp would come from the dark/light suit.
The dark suit is made from evil, thus allowing her to become resistant to the evil energies in the evil parallel world. The light suit is made from good and makes her immune against the evil energies.
But keep in mind that this was Luminoth tech and used one of the light thingies as power source. Stealing them would royally fuck with the Luminoth.
And her weaponry at the time ran off light/dark energies collected from fallen enemies.

>>
>>26312958
Uh. I've been here for like, 6 of these threads. At least. Samus has never come out as the loser. The worst she's ever done is when pitted against entire regiments, or if she's put at complete disadvantage by being surprised point-blank. Even then she's a contender.

Samus is equal parts Space Marine and Final Fantasy protagonist in power scale. A 1-on-1 Samus vs Space Marine fight, given all their potential power and equipment and assuming no special circumstances such as a surprise attack, always goes to her.

And yes, she could kill The Doctor easily, if she had to. His continued success depends on his enemies being blithering idiots with ignorable firepower, by her standards. And he was killed by a rather paltry energy shot once, from what amounted to a laser pistol. The Necrons are basically what she fights against in canon material, tech and power-wise, and she does just fine there.

>>
>>26313066
True, but tying the Metroids in as the Chozo anti-Warp weapon gives them a purpose for existing here...

...In fact, it could play a major role in her eventual leaving of the Imperium; The Emperor had her hunt down the Metroids under the pretense that they were an Anti-humanity threat, only to find out that they were a biological ward created by the Chozo to keep the Warp in check.

What's also great about the SA-X was that it replicated the missing parts from Samus's armor to the point where it was basically brand new. Imagine an X infecting only parts of a Marine's armor and then bam, you get a intangible blob that can morph into a fully functioning Marine with armor at will.
>>
>>26313325

She was armored. Trust doesn't factor into it, she didn't even see it coming.

Samus is incompetent.
>>
>>26313562
But could you dodge the blast-wave?

Alternatively, could you dodge them from point-blank range while the person had you by the throat and was pumping them into your chest cavity without even being damaged by them?

Composite look at the source material says we have to make her immune to the side-effects of her own weapons whenever she's shown to be. Which means she can just stand there, choking the life out of you, while she shatters reality around your rib cage.

Also, Space Marines aren't immune to their own bolters.
>>
>>26313623

Confirmed for trying too hard.

The most wanktastic depiction of Marines I can think of, Blood Gorgons, had a marine swatting supersonic bolt rounds out of the air. With his hand.

And how is having Nice Daemonettes raping Canon?
Their NICE, I've never made any claims that they are GOOD.
>>
>>26312380
Actually I can see a legitimate reason why Samus might lose her shit after seeing Ridley again.
Look at how many times Samus has killed him before other M. And every time he COMES BACK TO LIFE. Death itself cannot keep it's steely grasp on Ridley. He's like a nightmare that no nightlight can banish, you can get rid of him for a time but he always comes back.

On Ridleys side of the fence however he probably views Samus as Death fucking incarnate. Not a mortal, not a person, but force of nature that fate has decided to force him to fight over and over again. But maybe this time he'll find an edge and finally the cycle end.

I dunno I just like the idea of the two being completely scared of each other, thus spurring the both of them into all out war against each other and unknowingly cementing their fears further.
>>
>>26313662
Since ironically, Other M showed Samus to being quit brutal in terms of melee combat.
>>
>>26313616
To be fair, her armor is basically some kind of unholy organic/inorganic/spiritual tech mashup.
...Which means that X must have souls. And the ability to duplicate souls.
>>
>>26313693
Because daemonettes are literally made of sadism?
>>
>>26313662
Not talking about a marine, talking about you, since you said that you, personally, could dodge them.

Though, considering she has, hand-to-hand, fought monsters that are two or three times her size, she's at least in the same strength bracket as them. In addition, hell, run straight at one, charging her weapon, jump over him, and shoot him in the back with it. See how his nuclear reactor backpack deals with having reality crack around it.

Or, hell, just pepper him with matter-ignoring electricity lasers from behind a wall, without ever stepping out. Wave beam.

Samus is going to lose no if ands or butts. I like how every Samus fan just says nah go home /v/ instead of having anything legit or isn't contradictory. Also I am sure she isn't backed by people with Necron level tech they can cage god like beings and blow up suns. I've seen on a number of sites that do Vs. threads and she can't even beat people with half the powers or resources of a Space Marine. Metroid fanboys go home or bring some facts. Not these hyped up fanwank numbers. I don't even like 40k but the metroid world is not on the same footing. Next you'll say she can beat Goku, the X-men and a great wyrm gold dragon.

So how would Samus fare against Megaman? I know he hasn't shown nearly the same amount of crazy shit that Samus has but he has the same "assimilate other's tech into his own arsenal" powers that she has.

Maybe he was also involved with the Blood Ravens when she was Primarch?

Also you are using the most powerful version of Samus thus you must use an equal footed Space Marine. That means an Iron Halo, plasma weapons, las gun, and from the most over hyped sources of the black library. Samus might be strong but she can't take out the a fully decked out Space Marine. Looking at Samus's wiki and Vs. account she doesn't have this.
>>

Megaman is a plug&play system. He can steal abilities because the other androids are made with the same hardware standards.

>And more importantly, she is too fearful and emotional. In her latest appearance she freaked the fuck out when confronted with Ridley and would have died if not for the interference of a random black dude.

Allright, you wanna count Other M. Then you also have to count that in Fusion she was back to her old badass self, and went back to eradicating a race, and blowing up planets.

So in short: She had a temporary moment of weakness when confrontend with an enemy who just wouldn't die.
>>
>>26309808
The entire arsenal of the Metroid universe is a cut above WH40K. You might notice nobody even bothers with kinetic projectiles unless they carry specialized warheads.

Also, physical abilities? You have clearly never played a Metroid game, because she can do things while in full armor that a level 40 Rogue couldn't dream of.

>>26313837
With each of them at full power? Megaman's got literally almost a hundred weapons. One of them stops time. I think it's a Rocket Tag situation. Whoever strikes first wins.

Though to be honest I think it'd be cute if he took to her like an older sister.

Also, Megaman isn't a conscious entity. He's just a really advanced Cleverbot with an impressive weapons suite. X, on the other hand, could get interesting.

Lost, possibly gender-bent Primarch, raised by the last remnant the race of Xeno who gave birth to Tzeentch and created the Essence eating Metroids to combat said trickster god.
The Emperor, thinking that the Chozo's machinations were a danger to his vision of humanity's future, sent his reclaimed Primarch Daughter to the other end of the Galaxy while another Primarch finished exterminating her adopted people.

It'll still explode like fucking crazy if someone hits it hard enough.

Beside the point: X-Ray Visor plus Wave Beam. Ice Spreader followed up by any kind of concussive weapon. The Sonic Boom, which moves about as fast as her Power Beam's own charge shot(pic related). Any of the bull she was capable of while in the PED Suit. The Diffusion Beam(Other M) which turns her basic weapon into energy-based ordinance. And that's ignoring that she could just Morph Ball between his legs, use the Spring Ball and Magnet Ball to jump up and cling onto his backpack and detonate a nuclear weapon directly on top of his ass.

Unfortunately, he's not. The scene at the end of Megaman 7 was altered in the American version. Originally, he intends to kill Wily, but he can't overcome the Three Laws, and lets him go, because robot.

In the American version, we get a much cooler scene where we literally witness the Singularity occur, he claims to be more than a robot, and only fails to take the shot due to the intervention of a third party.

X is explicitly the first "intelligent", free-thinking robot.

He also has a human soul, which is why he can canonically use the Hadoken.

Ah. Alright then, I'll concede that point. I don't know how nuclear power works. It's not my job to know how that works and I was going off of what Hollywood has shown when something happens with a nuclear reactor. Sorry.

On the off chance either of you were referring to the last bit of the second part, where I mentioned detonating a nuclear weapon, the Power Bomb is, canonically, a thermonuclear weapon.
>>
>>26314012
Fusion reactors have a Fusion reaction running, which must be suspended with a strong magnetic field.
It won't instantly turn off if the thing is destroyed. First it will lose containment, burn some stuff and then go out. That whole process would take up a few milliseconds.

The technology wasn't the issue. It was the retards that kept the damn thing running in 2011, despite the design being incredibly unsafe and outdated.
A nuclear chain reaction is fucking hard to achieve. That's why there's such a thing as "weapons grade" Uranium. Only a certain form of it can be used to get the chain reaction to have a real effect.
A decently designed reactor just shuts off when the cooling system breaks down.

That makes slightly more sense, but I still object on the grounds of Adamantium transferring heat like normal metal. Given a nuclear explosion, the metal coating would flash-vaporize the marrow and bone inside, still sterilizing his form of living cells.

The massive overpressure on the inside is more forceful than the nuclear blast. His bones instantaneously become adamantine frag grenades.

It was the most recent one about Wolverine that isn't the one that was just released a few days ago. It's about how Wolverine came to be, prominently features Sabertooth as an antagonist, and ends with them prematurely waking up the incomplete Deadpool to try and kill Logan. Deadpool has the mishmashed abilities of a bunch of mutants mixed up in him, including Wolverine's regeneration and a young-teen Scott's eyebeams. The eyebeams end up heating Wolverine's claws to glowing orange, which he then uses to slice Deadpool's head off and instantly seal the wound, temporarily preventing him from healing.

A) Samus can dodge projectiles or, more accurately, the people firing them

>>26314152
It is okay if you think that, but you realize the same could be said about Samus and anything you had going for her falls apart. The writing is the only thing we have to go on to get a grasp of their power levels. Just because other universes have a much higher power level doesn't mean it is to be ignored or dismissed. It is what makes the universe the universe. Silver age Superman is neigh unbeatable because of the writers, but you can't just say oh Samus would beat Superman if not for those power wanking writers.

>>
>>26314480
I've always assumed the stuff with the Chozo is more like they came across a Theory of Everything; a scientific principle capable of explaining all aspects of the universe. Which is why they became so spiritual. Their awareness and perception of the universe was just so deep that their interaction with it ceased to be any different from spiritual communion. This is also why their tech is so crazy potent, it's based off these principles and can basically do whatever it wants provided the right type of resources.
>>
>>26314611
You know there are literal, vengeful, psychotic Chozo ghosts in Prime, right? And Metroids explicitly absorb a target's "life force"?
>>
>>26314611
This is what's implied in the manga, but they still send out robots to kill beautiful creatures with fire because they're dangerous.

Seriously, though, saying, "it's chozo tech," is on par with saying, "a wizard did it." It explains just as little about how it was done, and says just as much about how little anyone cares about how it actually works in the long-run.

>>26314642
I believe it's mentioned in their scan entries that they couldn't completely get right with the universe before transcending, and they went insane trying to stay on the material and transcend it at the same time. Literally tore their minds in half in the process. Made them crazy.

Also, energy tanks must just be spare batteries of life force, then, because metroids eat those, too.

And I'm saying that the life force and those ghosts could just be an unexplained scientific anomaly, or that the soul itself can be explained scientifically. But at the level of understanding that the Chozo have, they're literally doesn't exist a distinction between magic and science.

Metroids can eat and convert any energy. They're basically living transformers/capacitors. That's how they fly: They convert whatever they've sucked up into kinetic energy. It's also why they're weak to cold: It's the absence of energy. It was a built-in failsafe by the Chozo, leaving them a glaring (but nearly unexploitable weakness by anything without cold weaponry), as well as rendering space travel impossible.

>they're
There*. I don't see how I could fuck up that bad.

Considering that a Phazon Leviathan was capable of splitting a planet into two dimensions, I wouldn't find it hard to believe that Phazon is capable of corrupting an ascended Chozo.

I think that in game and in manga, explaining the concepts behind Chozo tech would detract from the story/game, the amount of explanation would be a huge exposition dump to justify it.

So, potentially, someone with a full tank of nitrogen gas could kill a metroid semi-easily? Spray it down and just smash it to bits with the tank?
>>
>>26314790
Yup. You could probably kill a metroid by locking it in a chest freezer for a few hours, then hitting it with a hammer. The weakness was twofold: By making them membranous, extreme cold also renders them shatter-prone.
>>
>>26314790
Basically yeah. That and enough conventional/non-freezing weaponry will kill a Metroid.
>>

>>26314818
Aye, ambushing works.

the problem is that for one, you only get one shot, and twOH JESUS CHRIST MONKEYBALLS FLYING SOUL SUCKING THING COMING RIGHT FOR ME, AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

>Conventional Weaponry

The only conventional weaponry that will kill a Metroid is something that can force it to absorb so much energy so fast that it literally pops like a balloon. Super Bombs in Prime, for example, which I believe are antimatter weapons.

Depends on the form of Metroid. Hunters, though still vulnerable to the Ice Beam/other dedicated freezing weapon, are capable of thriving in frigid temperatures.

Put an insecticide sprayer head on the tank and just carry it with you in, like, a scuba tank harness. Metroid flies at you, you side-step it, spray it down, and then kick it at the wall like a soccer ball until it shatters.

>>26314907
First off, Power Bombs. Not super bombs. Second off, they're small-scale thermonuclear weapons. Thirdly, it only took regular bombs in Super Metroid.

>Hunter Metroids

Those things were creepy in a totally awesome way. Given that they're called "Hunter" metroids, I guess we can assume they have additional predatory instincts and abilities. Maybe they can survive cold locations because intaking more energy lets them keep a sustained reserve of warmth.

I knew "Super Bombs" sounded wrong while I was typing it...

And I'm pretty sure they've gotten alternative descriptions in different games.

You'd have to hope like fuck that you guage it right, be it your reactions and the speed of the freezing.

Seeing pillars of dust that were once animals would scare the shit outta anyone and put them off their stride

They've never been antimatter weapons, though. Just extremely powerful bombs. Other M has them being described as being able to vaporize people, and the blast looks a lot like a thermonuclear explosion in that. Also, I like to imagine her toting nukes around just in case she needs one.

>>26315021
Yeah, good point. I'd probably opt more towards something to keep them away from me. Like a sturdy, lightweight bludgeon and lots and lots of running away.
>>
>>26315190
So what would happen if we cross Metroids with Head Crabs?
>>
>>26315221
You'd probably get flying head crabs that are slightly more efficient at consuming their targets, but somewhat easier to kill because their targets turn to dust and crumble away after a little while.

Either that or parasitic, cold-immune metroids.
