I still think we should divide the workers between archery range and fish pool for the hunters
>>
>>26297891
We can do that. If it is a tech success, it will work out so that both are built in one turn
>>
>>26297891
I think the fish pool will be pretty complicated. We may have to build a dam or something.

It wasn't? Is there a way to tell? I was getting nervous because the thread was going for 8 hours and posts were short. I was worried we were going to hit the limit.
>>
>>26298033
The limit is 300 posts on /tg/. And even then, a new thread is not required. It takes ages to sink off the board.
>>
>>26298053
Yeah, you really shouldn't start a new thread until you're on page 9.
However, it's an easy mistake for new quest runners to make.
>>
>>26298053
Oh wow, I'm normally used to /b/ where threads seem to 404 in 30 minutes.

I figured that, but it's not easy for me to factor in.

>>

I gotta go keep the thread alive hive mates so that one day I may return
>>
>>26298251
Yeah, we need to keep this going.

So what do the other castes do?
>>
>>26298271
Scouts: East, on the other side of the river, on the road
Scientists: observe the workers. See if we can't construct more efficiently or manage two projects at once
Farmers: don't fuck up this time
hunters: net fish the river
hounds: hunt for fungus
workers: Dig out spawning pool and construct archery range
flame keepers: torches
scavengers: hunt for fungus
warriors: set up a forward observation post (a small hole never elvish territory, basically) and do some patrols
>>
>>26298330
I'm going to go ahead and assume everyone agrees.

just started following in the last thread and my interest was peaked once I saw the phrase "mind control bugs" thrown around.
So, how do I help?
>>
>>26298403
What about the new caste. The alchemist. The poison mixers and antidote makers, the royal jelly makers, refiners of acid and oil, makers of explosives and the ones who will assist our gene-weavers. Do we have to wait until our gene-weavers are done.
>>
>>26298451
The mind control bugs our this warms form of assimilation. We mind control the creature. We shove it into the chrysalis. The bug fuses with the host brain and we add a new member to the swarm.

When we go nano sized we can make the hyper evolutionary virus.
>>
>>26298470
We'd have to assign larva to that caste.
>>
>>26298330
The scouts go east of the forest. There are many lakes in the area and the air smells of salt.

The scientists see if they can help the workers, but there's no need.

The workers (89) use various vines around columns in the hives bigger rooms to haul out stones more quickly as well as place wooden targets in the new archery/javalin range. Every type of target that they have imagined has been carefully crafted to look like every species that the hive has come across. Their major masterpieces being life-sized elves, trolls, Insects (he haven't named our race really), and most importantly, Khepri. (ranged attacks will be improved once trained here successfully).

The farmers fuck up again.

The hunters (78 (75 is the new tech success)) have a ridiculous haul of fish. One of them accidentally dropped his net into the water when he caught a school of fish. When the others tried to get it out with their nets, they found even bigger fish. (Learned how to use bait).

The houndmasters (98) sniff out various fungus and manage to find a strain a virulently poisonous fungus. They learned how to coat their weapons with the spores. (Poison tipped weapons ((narcotic poison)).

The flame keepers used up most of their wood from last time and spend the day harvesting new wood.

The scavengers get a lot of different fungus and labeled each with pheromones so that the hive would know which are good and which are bad.

The warriors set up their observation hole only to realize that they can't see through all of the shrubbery.

Wow... I never realized that...
Do we even have a name? Does the queen have a name? We should probably name the queen first and maybe the hive after her.
>>
>>26298742
All they have so far are berries that work as a steroid. It's untested on how it will affect other clutches as it hasn't been fed to the queen

Silurian - named after the first period that insects were seen.

I don't care what we name ourselves right now but it's going to help if we end up communicating with other races.

Dat's my vote, for what it counts
>>
>>26299324
>Scouts: Follow dat salty smell.

>Hounds help the hunters

The rest of my post should be unchanged. The scientist should help the farmers and should talk to the scavengers on where they found them.
>>
>>26299361
>>26299383
That's an agreement. Going for it.
>>
That smelly smell that smells smelly gets even smellier as your scouts push forward. It gets a little more taxing for them to walk this far and they have to stop and forage. It's not easy so they don't get far at all.

The farmers and scientists work together to pioneer some crop growth. They notice things start to bud.

The Wolves refuse to hunt the birds (probably because they're off a cliff face. The hunters make a sport out of catching birds with nets (78). Utilizing both bait and nets, the hunters improve their trapping capabilities.

The deshrubbing doesn't go too well for the workers. They aren't used to the flimsiness of the plants and can't properly tear them out.

The Flame Keepers find that dried herbs work as perfect kindling with smaller wood building out to bigger wood. (Success rate for starting fires is 100% under normal conditions) (Bonus 10 to anything dealing in torches)

The scavengers (95) catalog a wide variety of plant life. Pheromones are planted everywhere so that the whole hive knows where and what everything is. Now all we need to do is figure uses for them. (+10 when working with plants and home field advantage in this forest +10 to fighting here).

The warriors practice their archery and javelin skills. They suck at it. One of the warriors got frustrated and took to mele with his javelin when an arrow hit him in the back. He's not dead, but out of commission for some time.

Geneweaving gives us the ability to be even more Zerg-like right?
Also how big are we? (I'm just curious)
>>
>>26299854
We're about as tall as a man, and yes. Geneweaving improves our mutation rate.
>>
>>26299854
Geneweaving is like advanced genetic engineering. It produces 1 extra evo point a turn and has a chance of culling genetic failure.

We're roughly human sized. We have one Troll that we captured and have older bugs (who don't have acidic mandibles) ripping limbs off of it to feed the hive and the elves know that we are sentient which means that they won't attack us on sight. We still creep them out a bit, but they admire our craftmanship which was a critical success when making a gift for their queen.
>>
Can we communicate with the elves?
Maybe we can make more shiny things that they want in exchange for them teaching us how to use bows. It's a stretch but it might work.

No, we're insects and make a noise similar to dubstep. We have ideas for a mimic caste that will act as diplomats, traders, spies, assassins, and cult leaders.

I suppose we could get vocal chords, but I would prefer we maintain our overall insect-like culture.

What are our long term goals?
(I'm sorry for the constant questioning, I'm really fascinated by this whole thing.)
>>
>>26300174
Oh, it's not a bother.
Long long term goals are: infest everything on the planet and spread the word of the Queen.
Long term goals: geneweaving, caste specializations, poison, infesting a giant hydra, mind controlling a elf town, and mimicry.
>>

Space and beyond!
>>
>>26300204
I'm seriously down with this
Only piece of advice I can offer about long term plans: Fire-resistance/Being Fireproof is good in case there are heretics who do not agree with the spread of our Glorious God Queen's influence. People seem to prefer fire when dealing with insects, and other fast spreading organic matter
>>
>>26300111
Your scouts manage to reach the ocean. The water is warm. (Endless fishing).

Your farmers keep screwing around but your scientists develop an irrigation system that keeps plants watered when there is little rain. (plants can be ready for harvest in a few more successes) (These farmers keep failing)

The hunters and hound masters manage to track down a Grizzley bear defending her den. The hound masters distract it while the hunters set up a falling stone trap that disorients the bear enough for the houndmasters to clip its achilles tendons with their mandibles, making so that the bear can't stand properly. They rip it apart as well as the cubs and bring back the meat for the others. (Houndmasters learn distracting strike)

The workers create a back drop out of various vines and other things so that the archery range is much easier to use. They also figure out a way for them to mass produce known weaponry (learned assembly line).

The flame keepers try to make burning weapons, but the weapons tend to burn too fast to be useful.

The scavengers don't know what they're looking for but they look for it! They manage to find some more shinies for her holiness. These ones are very smooth.

The warriors are finally able to hit something. They're not so good yet, but they're getting better.
