I tried doing this yesterday, figured I'd try again today. Chaos Biker faction. Let's fluff it out. Going to dump what I made up yesterday.

Please feel free to contribute or call me a flaming faggot as I do.
>>
>>26284975

I'd make them White Scars that fell to Chaos.
>>
http://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/26268366/

Here is what we did yesterday.

They're a Chaos Undivided faction in theory with individual mono-god factions filling them out. The Marines ride daemon-possessed bikes, while the cultists ride highly tricked out motorcycles or go in chimera or rhino back because they haven't earned the right to ride yet. They have as many renegades as hard core chaos worshippers in their mix.

Most of the renegades are forced to chunk around in apcs because they haven't given up enough to earn the attention of a daemon, who becomes their ride.

The daemon bikes are all maintained by a specialist warp-smith, who is the closest thing to a neutral authority figure amongst the sub-divisions of the warband.
>>
Night Lords spin-off group called the Night Riders
>>
>>26284994
That's a bit too simplistic and kinda boring. Making them all just evil White Scars devalue the potential. Though the possibility for a good number of them to be renegade White Scars, or founded by a group of renegade White Scars, is a good idea.
>>
I could have sworn that bikes was a slaaneshi thing.

Looking up the lore now.
>>
I figured they'd be heavily based on the Bebop counter culture that cropped up after WW2. The Wild One with Marlon Brando as a kind of key influence, as well as all those grind house movies from the 60s and 70s, where the dangers of smoking marijuana eventually lead you to becoming a merciless hard core criminal. To keep it a bit tongue in cheek.
>>
>>26285007

Chaos's Angels.

Or Disciples of Doomrider.
>>
So they hold a competition/rally/meet up every ten years or so on a shitty little dust bowl world. Every warband descends on it for a year long festival of decadence. The slavers raid and bring new victims that they will sell to the war bands. The warriors get together and fight it out, with warlords falling and new leaders emerging. The pleasure seekers form vast carnival tents and engage in all manner of twisted pursuits. Daemons are conjured into the material realm, captured for the whims of the revellers or to be honoured as a patron.

And it all ends with the big race, where every daemon-biker measures p for a continental blitz. And the winner of the race gets to launch a Wild Ride against a planet of his or her choice, and all the warbands have to help out under their authority as the temporary overlord.

But they better get it done in ten years, because the bikers will drop anything to go back to the shitty dust bowl, have their year long festival, and crash out again for another Wild Ride.

And most times they get it done in under ten years, with the bands splitting up on every point of the Chaos star, ripping up the warp road. Or sometimes the overlord gets killed and the rest don't give enough of a shit to finish that guy's ride. Sometimes the overlord is just a shitty fucking commander and they ditch his ass to go do their own thing.

But every ten years they meet up for their planetary rally, like god damned clock work.
>>
>>26285024
The Angel thing would have everyone assuming they're descended from one of those 'angel' chapters.

Maybe the Warp Riders or Chaos Riders instead?
>>
>>26285019
We hunted around the fluff yesterday and the only all biker faction we could find in Chaos was connected to the Red Corsairs. And they had more of a hunter thing going on.
>>
>>26285019

Disregard.

Steeds of Slaanesh is a daemonic unit, not bikes.
>>
So here's what I got for the mono-dominant dudes in the Warband from yesterday:

So instead of being one warband its made up of dozens of minor warbands that band together, each one having a specific god or combination of gods or no god at all.

So you'd have your Khornate band, call 'em the Blood Riders or something. They favour getting stuck in with axes and road hauling guys on spiked chains until there's nothing left but a torso. Big wheeled machines that just crush everything they ride over.

And you'd have the Nurgle guys, let's call them the Corpse Kings. Their bikes just spit out toxic fumes, leaving a trail of disease in their dust, the fumes literally made up of buzzing flies swarming out of the pipes. Dudes on motorcycle back wielding scythes.

And you got your Slaanesh guys, Diamond Dogs, who are all about going as fast as possible, lightning strikes and raids, doing trick stunts in the middle of battle to show off. Their bikes are more organic than most of the others, almost human bodies that they plug into creating an intimate connection between the rider and their daemon-machine.

The Tzeentchian guys (who I couldn't think of a good name for) have warp effects ripple out from their vehicles, the vibration of their engines literally manipulating the physical reality around them. As a result only the best psykers can maintain control of the bike and stave off exploding into a warp spawn while mounted, and only the best of the best can do that while still flinging out spells at the same time.
>>
And this is a vaguely in-universe bit of write-faggotry I wrote yesterday:

See now the Guards and the mutants are racing for a spot, thinking if they go fast enough on their pure machines they might earn the right to get up there with the Chaos Marines. Maybe get a favour or two from some grinning god, maybe get some blessed augmentation out of a less than scrupulous dealer of such things, but for the most part they're chasing wind and getting eaten up in the fumes. Some get to sit a daemon-bike and the best of them last a good hour before the speed and raw power rips them apart. And they get the privilege of having their soul stuff keep that bike going in the material world, so they do their part.

Some of them get to slip off that meat-sack they called a body and join the daemon-brigade, but only one or two cats ever managed that.

See the warp-road ain't a kind god, it'll eat you if you can't keep up.

The little brothers and sisters, ninety-nine times outta a hundred they get eaten up, but they try.

So you know, who are their heroes and important figures /tg/? What grand campaigns have they gone on? What have they won, what have they lost? Who are their enemies and who are their friends?

Come on /tg/, let's make something that isn't just another Space Marine chapter.
>>
>>26285194
The current leader is called Shad'ck. Mostly content to sit around and enjoy himself in hedonistic revelry and games of oneupmanship, his rule of the Warp Riders is punctuated by his fleeting obsessions; when something strikes his fancy he'll lead his forces out to procure or destroy the target of his desires. His latest target was the first daughter of the El-Aim sector dynasty, kidnapping her in an raid that left half a hive in ruins, destroyed a spaceport, and crashed a space station into the planet's surface.

I figure colour scheme wise they're mostly like the black legion, plain black armour, but with individual patches on their pauldrons marking which particular sub-division they belong to along with different colour trims. A bit Death Watch-ish, so not married to the concept, but its pretty similar to real outlaw biker attire..
>>
>>26285274
They should also include little customizations to their armor, maybe some graffiti or whatnot.
>>
>>26285264
I like! I'm guessing he's the current overlord, and Slaaneshi at that. So a Diamond Dog who is all about keeping the party going.
>>
>>26285290
Customised helms and tricking out their gear.Very individualistic. Maybe some of the Slaanesh guys drag along cages to throw captured slaves into.

I'm thinking one of em might have a huge Imperial flag they wave as a mocking gesture to the Imperium.
>>
>>26285295
Current and I figure either Slaaneshi or Nurgle, since he mostly just sits around doing jack shit and having fun.

Now guess which movie I'm referencing.
>>
>>26285314
They don't drag along cages, the captives are thrown into the sidecar.
>>
>>26285315

Shit, its on the tip of my mind.
>>
>>26285335
Does the side car have some kind of ridiculous, grotesque pocket dimension in it, linked to all the other sidecars in the band, and the interior is the most disgusting grungy dive bar in the universe with no physical exit?
>>
>>26285360
I'll give you a hint. The climax involves sledgehammers.

No, it looks like the mouth of an unspeakable hellbeast, keeping from flying out is just as important as keeping yourself from being impaled on the jagged teeth lining the edge of the seat, and there is no suspension at all.

They have taken over an Imperial Battleship and converted it to a massive dive bar/garage/biker den though.

There's really no option for what you name these guys.

Let's just look at the lyrics for the title track of this most wondrously metal of albums.

"You will not find us among
those who dream of escaping
Across the aether we've come
All is ours for the taking

You don't age when you live out of time
A thousand years in the blink of an eye

Secrets of the blackest void
known only to the ancients
Freedom from the planetoids
and the gravity that chains us

To make a fold in space and slip
between the curves
Sacrifice of the sisterhood to do for those
they serve
To cross a universe in hyper-spatial flight
We ride the warp of space into the
womb of night

Ourano's daughter, Hermes' bride
Mistress of the Mysteries
Upon the Warp she rides
Navigatrix of the star-seas

She makes a fold in space, we slip
between the curves
Sacrifice of the sisterhood to do for those
they serve

To cross the Universe in hyper-spatial flight
We ride the warp of space into the
womb of night
You don't age when you live out of time
A thousand years in the blink of an eye"

Other highlights of this album include "Night City", a song which fits Comorragh perfectly(perhaps they have a running rivalry with a Dark Eldar Kabal?)
>>
>>26285400
He might not win the duel, be interesting to see what happens to him after he's made bitch in front of his entire crew.
>>
>>26285407
And they've put a big damn racing strip all through the thing, going as fast as fucking possible in death races to pass the time. A lot of rookies end up plastered on the walls because the turning is too damn tight for shit-birds to manage.
>>
>>26285425
There are sections where the artificial gravity has failed, and this has not been repaired, leading to three-hundred meter jumps and zero-gravity mid-race combat.
>>
>>26285417

Please make Doomrider their champion. I would love a warband that generalizes on all stereotypes that surround harley davidson subculture. Make the bikes slower, but heavier and sturdier. Give them something leather to wear over jet black/silver armour.
Beards and long hair like SW, a nice break from pale&shaved boys most marines are.
And maybe add a touch of noise marines to provide music and drugs to the warband.
Oh, and capes.
>>
>>26285438
That is an absolutely phenomenal idea.
>>
>>26285508
Doomrider is a good friend that is something of a personal hero to each and every warp rider. Even the guys who hate Slaanesh look at him and go 'Damn, wish I could be that mother fucker."

And every other century when he rocks around they go crazy for him. He's their god damn rock star. They go on the biggest damn ride, tearing up everything.
>>
>>26285510
The zero gravity sections can also have huge loops, which you can't do anywhere else.

WE F-ZERO NOW!
>>
>>26285438
The most dangerous course, available to only the highest echelons of the group, is Captain Johnny's Rally, celebrating the capture of the vessel by the first overlord. A nightmarish course of twisting turns and pitch-black corridors, the racers have to enter the track by warp portal before braving a course full of servitor-controlled weapons, deadly mutants, and escaped warp creatures.
>>
>>26285419
I'd say if he lost he'd have to contend with the heads of all the other factions to maintain control of the Riders. The Khornate aggressive shit waiting in the wings might challenge him to a duel. The Tzeentch guy might think his will is weak enough to manipulate. The next Nurglite/Slaanesh guy down would be using it to paint him as too weak to continue riding and challenge him and it all comes ahead in a giant race.

The question is, are they wrong?
>>

The ship has its own small company of Noise Marines, not for fighting, but to provide a fittingly metal soundtrack for the races.

Competitive races are the only way to advance in rank. An aspiring champion MUST race to prove his right to command others. The more races survived, the better.
>>
>>26285597
A fair deal of respect and lulz can be won when a champion captures some dark eldar for torturing as he plows through Commoragh.
>>
>>26285552
The incursions into Comorragh by the Warp Riders have given them a vicious enemy in the skyboard gang known as the Hellcat Mongrels. This all female gang led by the one-eyed Di-Di takes pride in collecting the demonic bikes of the Warp Riders and displaying them as trophies around their lair.
>>
So who were the founders?

I'm personally going to go with they were originally pure renegade marines who were just sick and fucking tired of being told what to do after their indoctrination broke for some reason.

Just six bike squaddies who were members of one of the more authoritarian chapters. They fragged their commander and got the fuck out of the Imperium. ASnd orioginally they might have believed no single one of them had complete authority over his brothers. On the fringe their philosophy attracted like minded traitors and renegades, and it eventually blew up into this big thing.
>>
>>26285597
What happens when a rider loses all ability to ride?

Do they kill him, abandon/exile him, or do something worse?

>>

>>
>>26285681
If it's using the CSM book then how can you have all for gods appear in the bike squads?
>>
>>26285638
So the original six finally fell to Chaos when they met the warp-smith that converted their bikes to being living daemon-engines.

He told them he could make them ride as fast as the winds of eternity, with space itself a long road, but there was just a little price they had to pay.

And each one fell to a different power, and one of them held on as a pure angry renegade, but they all started forming their own coterie of followers and groupies. What started out as an experiment in brotherhood turned into a petty squabble of power plays for control of the Warband. And it didn't help that the new people started whispering in their ears and turning brother against brother.

But they made a pact that when they were riding out into combat they;d forget those games, and they'd be brothers in battle together again. And even as they were killed and corrupted and murdered each other, they never broke that pact of brotherhood.

Because when the Warp Riders ride out, they ride together.
>>
Their Bikes are alive and can be fucked while being riden across the battlefield.

And we would have biker centaurs
>>
>>26285670
Why not make dreadnough bikes? Split a land raider in 2, powertape a jet engine to it and you have bikes for dreads.

>>

Dia El-Aim, the Songstress of the Warp Riders.

Once the daughter of a powerful Imperial dynasty, Dia El-Aim was abducted by the leader of the Warp Riders, a charismatic snake named Shad'ck the Foe. Dragging her through the warp on a wild ride through the cosmos, he exposed the terrified young princess to the energies of Chaos. Being young and susceptible, the young woman put up a valiant effort to stave off his corruptive influences but in the end she was only mortal.

Taken by the pleasures that come with submitting to the Chaos Gods, she was no longer recognizable as the frightened young princess but became a powerful songstress of Slaanesh, composing music in honour of her captors, marking out their horrific deeds for their entertainment.

She rides with her Lord into battle, blasting her voice across the battlefield, visiting sweet temptation into the minds of their opponents. She has used her powerful voice to win her lord many victories both obvious and subtle, staving off many of his would be usurpers through manipulating the politics of the warband.

A foolish band of heroes are on a quest to try and rescue the songstress, but after so long amongst the warp-bred even the most radical Inquisitor would consider her beyond redemption.

Shad'ck the Foe, also known as the Cobra. Current Overlord of the Warp Riders and head of the Black Rider Renegade faction.

Once a promising young aspirant of the Astartes, he lost his way in a scouting mission against the forces of Chaos. An enthusiastic rider of the biker scout squad, he spent years trying to find his way back to his home world before falling in with a band of Astartes renegades.

Proving himself a worthy rider, and far from the ministrations of his chaplain, his faith began to erode under their tutelage. He was briefly returned to his old comrades, but when he got back it was too late. His faith was gone, and he chaffed under the authoritative strictness of the chapter. Before he could be taken back to his homeworld for indoctrination, Shad'ck gave up his position to the Black Rider Renegaes, who stormed the position and killed his brothers. Baptised by this treachery, he was inducted as a member of the Black Riders and introduced to the larger warband as a talented new recruit. He proved himself in the ship-circuit and on Dust Bowl as a rider on par with the best in the Warp Riders, and quickly rose up the ranks of his own faction, before taking command altogether after defeating his former mentor in a hammer armed mounted duel. He crushed the old man and keeps his skull as a fond trophy, one he is often caught conversing with in his more withdrawn moments.

The man is a one of shifting moods and interests. He never keeps his focus on anything for long before grasping a new obsession, and quickly grows bored with his victories. He is only truly loyal to two things, his bike and his hammer, and has earned a cut throat reputation as a result.

Codex Marines has more versatility, no reliance on the Chaos Boons table, and it's already got the Mounted Assault rule, which we can simply rename Warp Riders. These guys aren't all chaotic, and I think playing up the Outlaw angle more than the cult angle would be good.

Di-Di, Sky Queen of the Hellcat Mongrels.

The Warp Riders frequent incursions into Commorragh have earned them the enmity of many Dark Eldar, but none more than Di-Di.

Leader of the Hellcat Mongrels, she turned her gang from a handful of disaffected Eldar youths to one of the most powerful skyboard gangs in Port Carmine. However, during a raid on the Old City that would have secured their fame and fortune in slaves and prisoners, the Warp Riders burst through webway portals, shattering the Hellcat's offensive. Half of the Hellcats met their doom that day, and Di-Di herself had part of her face torn out by Warp Rider's chained hook. Her forces scattered, her skyboard stolen as a trophy, and the Hellcats reputation destroyed, she disappeared into the Middle Darkness for years before returning with new followers in tow. With brutal efficiency she killed the new leaders of the Hellcats and began rebuilding their strength.

She rides upon a skyboard made from the parts of a captured Hellcycle, its' former owner reduced to a dismembered husk whose soul powers the board. She takes perverse pleasure in capturing the daemonic machines of the Warp Riders and raising them as trophies to herself, often sending their hapless riders back to face the shame of losing their bikes.

And they most certainly do challenge Dark Eldar and Speed Freaks, as well as any other rider faction. White Scars, Saim-Hann and Eldar Corsairs.

We'd need some aspects of the Chaos dex. The mono-dominant groups would probably see some boons and mutations, and some of the cultists that hang on might come in with them already. We'd also need some warp powers since they use warp portals to ride in and ride out of different places. Plus the bikes themselves are possessed and can turn on the riders if they don't think they're living up to the prestige of riding them. From a mechanical standpoint there would be limits on what you can take and how much.

Daemonette biker bitches. Anon speak the truth

To summarize we could use:
SM Dex: All bike army rules can be used. Scouts on bikes could be deemed as cultists "hang arounds / prospects"

DA Dex: Allows the "Lord" to be pretty powerful. Lots of bike options such as Ravenwing Black Knights that add an element of veration.

CSM Dex: Add the line CSM bikes can be troops when <something>. Gives you everything this thread discussed from a fluff point of view and lets you max out on heldrakes and bikes in one list hahahahahahahahahaha

Restricted to HQ I think. Maybe in the fluff a whole lot of people have them, but on the table maybe just HQ or exalted champions and the like.

Though since Warp Riders can't take terminators, maybe a specific squad of daemon bike riders could substitute.

The Hunter Duke, Gonzer Scanlon, Road Jester

A bald headed, optically enhanced former straight laced Ultramarine chaplain who fell to Chaos after suffering a sudden inhalation of warp dust that drove him quite mad. He's known for babbling along like a lunatic to himself, chatting up spectral beings and writing down whatever they say. Observers insist he is not actually communicating with the Dark Powers, but the Warp Riders take to his lectures with an unbridled enthusiasm, taking even the most gibberish statements as if they were pearls of wisdom imparted by Lorgar himself.

He has a keen interest in just about every vagabond and rogue that he stumbles across, soliloquising them as if they were the greatest hero to ever step out of the warp.

No one remembers his original name, and he seems to keep adding new names. He is currently known to go by The Hunter Duke Gonzer Scanlon Calgar Theopopolos Shirley MixMaster-Blaster the Tenth, esquire.

No one really questions it.

Before the Warp Riders came Dust Bowl had been a very different place. A healthy, thriving agri-world, pious in its devotion to the God-Emperor. With green fields and gold fields of grain, and pleasant lakes that saw even the poorest had a meal of fresh fish. The people were humble, happy, and safe.

In those days it was called Verdania. It was governed by a Bishop of the Ecclesiarch and provided a way station for pilgrims. It fed half a system.

Then a strange pilgrim came on one of those ships that often stopped by Verdania. A wild young man, who drank and debauched and caused quarells to break out where ever he went. Handsome, he caught the eye of a young lady of the church. He pursued her as if it were a mission, and she became receptive to his advances, breaking her vows of chastity.

When the Bishop discovered the affair he put the young man to death and sent the young woman to a penitence.

When he was being led to a funeral pyre she prayed for his salvation.

Unfortunately for her, it came.

A warp road jester had caught her pleas on the wind, heard her words through the vibrations of the immaterium.

And he told his Overlord, a Diamon Dog Slaaneshi, who took deep amusement in the affair.

They sent out to the woman instructions, disguised as the dictates of a holy saint. Blinded by her love she followed them, offering up her own soul willingly to spar her wild lover.

A warp storm set on Verdania, ad out of it came the flagship of the Warp Riders.

It was only as the drop pods began to fall and the mad cackling broke over the vox network that she realised her terrible mistake, and the doom she had brought to this world.
>>
>>26287245
He rode with them that day, using the road jester as a vessel and burning the fool apart. The Doomrider blitzed through the fields of the agri-world, churning wheat to ash, and the warp riders struggled to keep up with the Prince.

They slaughtered their way into the capital, killing any that crossed their path. They kept their bargain, they freed the wild young man and his lover. And the lady of the cloth who broke every vow wept when she saw the young man embrace the overlord of the riders like a lost brother, and gave no resistance when he offered her up to him in tribute.

And they gave him a suit and a bike, and he rejoined their brotherhood. He took up the bishop and wrapped him in chains. Gracing the bishop with a kiss, he tore across the countryside on a daemon-bike, dragging the bishop all the way until the priest rattled apart all over the road.

And the rampage continued, the tread of the bikes ripping up the fertile fields and destroying the crops. The lakes boiled from the warp touch and they pitched the screaming peasants into it, until the waters dried altogether.

And Verdania died, and Dust Bowl was born.

Nurgle Bikes get the rule Hand in Hand to Hell: When killed in close combat the unit makes a test, if successful the bike detonates, dealing damage to all units in base contact.

Slaanesh bikes get the rule It's a Learning Experience: When testing for wounding after after breaking combat or failing a morale test, add one to the, lets go with Leadership, stat.

Khorne bikes get War Hell Ride: Treats Dangerous and Lethal Terrain as Difficult Terrain, no longer gets cover save for Area terrain.

Currently there are five major factions in the Warp Riders

The current ruling faction is the Black Rider Renegades - run by the Overlord Shad'ck the Foe

The True Skulls of Khorne - what's the name of their current warlord?

The Cadaver Kings of Nurgle - again, need a boss.

The Riders of Fate of Tzeentch - need a boss.

And the Diamond Dogs of Slaanesh - who also need a boss.

The Overlord and the factional bosses form the rider council.

Varkuz turned his head and noticed a trembling pile of turbines, exausts and weapons closing in on him at top speed from the right side. On the platform a group of orks was cheering and shouting obscenities even as one of them lost his head to a low-hanging pipe.

Varkuz cursed his bike and spat inside his helmet. He will not be bested by some fungus monkey hooligans. He pressed the engine beyond safety, all the time negotiating ruins and rubble at top speed.
For a moment the orks were just about to go ahead in this race, but suddenly one of their afterburners gave spirit as Varkuz shot it with his bolt pistol and the xeno contraption slowed down just enough for Varkuz to get in front of it. His mouth twisted in a grimace of contempt as he tore of a flamer from the front of his bike and pointed it backwards. As the weapon sprayed gouts of flame, the orks were engulfed in agonising inferno. A few grisly seconds later the entire orkish vehicle exploded violently sending Varkuz and his bike sailing through the air amongst parts of wreckage and orkish remaings, setting the bike and it's rider on fire as they soared through low-gravity atmosphere.

"HIGH AS A KITE!!!"
Varkuz let out a maniacal laughter as he cleaned bits of orkish flesh from his helmet's visor. Below him, a group of fellow Warp Riders blasted their way through the ruins, rocks and orkish wrecks.

Finally, his bike's tires once again connected to the ground, shock absorbers screeching in protest. He was way ahead of competition and many orks have went to the bosom of Gork during the course of this race. Well, except for the one that Varkuz dragged on a chain behind his bike, the beast was still panickly screaming, a testament to orkish perseverance.
Varkuz, as befits a madman, took his time to plant some gore-mines shoulf any orks dare follow his trail and with roaring engines, rode off to victory.

Papa Rempit, the Living Regent - A mystic follower of the Great Grandfather, who consults the augeries on almost every decision. He is one of the few members of the Warp Riders who is respected across al subfaction.

The Council of Raggare - a group of petty faced delinquents more concerned with their own personal glory than administrating their band. Pretty much every Diamond Dog is on the council, and it is why they very rarely become Overlords.

>The Riders of Fate

The Warpsmith Harlan Hendee Excelsius

In the depth of the warp this master craftsman works, marrying flesh and steel to create the perfect steeds. Commissioned by the ones who burn with the need to push their limits, they came to him with a simple proposal.

Take a machine, and give it life.

Conversing with all the great sages of the Four Ruinous Powers, tempting forth daemons into huis carefully constructed snares, he trapped the warp-beings and enslaved them upon the anvil of his forge, welding their essence into these machine-bikes, crafting a new weapon for the arsenal of Chaos.

This genius travels rarely from his forge, pumping out new and exotic cycles, no two completely alike. The few times he does venture forth it is to personally track down needed material.

His prestige has grown with this invention such that he now has a whole school of apprentices. But the task of mating daemon to motorbike is no easy task, and many a poor fool has lost his life or found himself the unwilling host of a canny daemon. Some are starting to produce serviceable work, but none yet have the skill to approach the master of the warp-forge.

In appearance Harlan is a bronze skinned giant with a long, curling black beard. His left arm is flesh only until the elbow, the fore-arm and hand composed of some strange, malleable material that forms any tool -or weapon- the craftsman might need. His mouth is split by jutting tusks, and he has an extra thumb on his right hand. For a man who has spent many millenia within the warp, working with warp-stuff, he is not too badly mutated.

He keeps at hand an axe, a gift he made for an aspiring warlord who had spurned it. That warlord's head now rests above the door to Harlan's forge.
