@GhostAdjutant

You were a ghost operative of the Terran Dominion, under Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. Your Codename is Delta Phoenix. You received a transmission from Korhal. "The Emperor is Dead. Long live the Emperor. "

It seems like a lifetime since the fall of Korhal disabled your neural inhibitor and you went rogue. With the help of a rogue Dominion Marine, Jacob Henderson, you and your small crew secured a Gorgon-Class battlecruiser you now call The Daluke. The Dominion, bounty hunters, and criminal scum alike are all after you with a massive 1.5 billion credit bounty on your head. But they're going to have to earn it, first.

After organizing far too many rebels you killed Governor Lakas of New Albuquerque. However, you rescued his family who are now aboard the ship. You knocked his wife unconcious to get her to cooperate. Hopefully she'll be calmed down after.

Adjutant A.I. Online.

Good Morning, Commander.

Good Morning, Adjutant.

What is the status of Operation Lottery Heist?

Delta Phoenix, Enrique has requested the release of his son. As the child poses a class 1 risk to the ship I have allowed it. However Quanah has requested to speak with you when possible. She is currently detained in the brig. I have also received the operations report from the lottery heist. Whiskey and November were successful. Current credits are at 3,289,000.

Mac has already outfitted our wraiths with stealth reactors and repairs to the Daluke are complete. Remaining resources are as follows:

Daluke Resources:

>Minerals: 1250
>Gas: 0
Morale: 101 (+1)

Murric Resources:

+104 Supply. 880 Supply in storage.
000 Credits
>Minerals: 2650
>Gas: 795
>>

Tansfer 500 gas to Daluke and set up a conference between Quanah and Enrique
>>
>>26118288
additionally, I'm considering giving back some of the lottery money to Murric...

What do the rest of you guys think?
>>
>>26118288
let us speak with Quanah then.

>>26118354

Also guys we've found out the terrazine side-effect. Temper control. I suspected as much when we lifted that vulture and this last session pretty much confirmed it.

We should go talk to the doctor about this.
>>
*We already have the schems*

We can part with 2mil I think. Have Adjutant distribute them into technical and higher education.
>>

>>
Ok, anything to do/buy in Murric?
>>
>>26118622

A new economy?

The planet itself?

A new Military?
>>
>>26118622
Loading Murric schematics, please wait.
>>
We should invest in fleet defense. Point defense drones come to mind, those would have helped a lot in space.
>>
>>26118622
There is no available technology for sale that we do not already possess.

The Murric government has recruited or hired most mercenary groups.

Several criminal elements are selling civilian stimpacks, but not the schematic or military grade stimpacks.

Intelligence from Quanah suggests the boy's mother would want him to be with her.

Intelligence from Enrique suggests the opposite, that she would want the boy to be with him, and was fighting against her family.

With the woman actually dead, you have no way of knowing.

The child does not understand the implications of this scenario. I would suggest against using his input commander.

>"Guess we'll be rampant alcoholics together then."

He waves you in. The room is still mostly empty apart from his table, two chairs, and a bed. Like most ghosts he's used to have no possessions apart from combat equipment.

>"Once you graduated and moved in on actual Dominion operations you and Charlie made plans to break free, constantly. I did what I could to cover your tracks because, well, you were bad at it. Not for any lack of skill, just lack of possibility. You'd occasionally get caught, resocced, the whole process would start all over. You weren't the only ones, you were just... doesn't matter. In your ceaseless digging you managed to find your actual identity before you were Delta Phoenix. You were a little girl who's family ran away from the Confederacy to Umoja but got tracked down anyway."

Whiskey takes a bottle from his bed then sits at the table. You do the same. Your stomach tenses as you begin to fear the worst scenarios.

>"Fast forward to your 'last' mission. Our handler finds out because you didn't properly scrub the mainframe of his login tags. How you managed to get his credentials is another story that I don't know, but you did, and you found out. And you stole that Mission from Charlie, and he figured it out. And you got zapped."

>"So... the councilman?"
>"Just some suit. But you contacted him. You had him round up your family and tell them you were coming. They were with all those other dissidents on that super carrier, waiting for you to come, waiting for you to meet up with that rogue battlecruiser, and waiting to have you lead them to the fringe worlds to escape the tyrannical Dominion."

Although it's difficult to be sure, you feel like your rage has increased since the terrazine treatments.
>"Adjutant, page Mac and Nelhav. Have them report to the labs."
>"Yes, Delta Phoenix."

You make for the labs yourself and get there first. Mac shows up first, followed by Dr. Nelhav.

Nelhav approaches you.

She withdraws a small flashlight from her coat and examines your eyes as you respond.

Your adjutant careful monitors your diet and hasn't registered anything abnormal. You don't have any memory loss that you can remember - but that's how it gets you.

The doctor steps out of the office and Mac steps forward.

>"Tilt your head forward. There we go. Just need to pop this baby out and have a look-see. Just think happy thoughts."

You feel a strange sensation as you hear a plop, and your aggression inhibitor - a small little device - is freed from underneath your hair.

>"Alternatively I can have a much better nano-edged blade added to the cosemetic hand. I can also redesign it a tad better, indistinguishable by human eyes, most sensors wouldn't be able to detect it. Could even have it outfitted with an emergency radio."

>"Upgrade the cosmetic, Mac. it'll be good to have a backup. And take it easy, yeah?"

>"Yessir."

He leaves. A few moments later Nelhav, Lee, and a few other scientists enter the room.

>"Commandah. I take it zee inhibitor is not zee issue?"
>"No, and it's not the way to fix this problem, so I may have to consider ending the treatment."
>"Very vell. Doctors, vee may begin."

Several of them attach diodes to your head, one takes a blood sample from your arm, Nelhav withdraws a large machine from one of the wall compartments. It's clearly some sort of scanner and it's anchored to the wall by way of a giant robotic arm. Finally, one of the doctors attaches an I.V. to your arm, though you can't be sure of the contents.

>"Ve're going to run a battery of tests, Commandah. Chemical, Psychological, und physical."

Battery was the correct word. The diodes were electrical, they stimulate your rage almost instantly and you sense the scanner reading every thought you have.

It becomes increasingly difficult to fight the rage, but you remain laying back on the table.

>"You are doingk good, commandah. Just a while longer."

Several monitors beep and change from green to red. Lee and Nelhav step over to them.

>"Innnnteresting."
>"That's bad. Really bad."
>"No, no. It's just an unforeseen side effect, Doctah."
>"I'm sure the same thing's been said about cancer."
>"Ve vill need to confirm zese results, however. Doctah Roth, administer zee serum."

One of the doctors steps up to the I.V. and sets it to drip. They watch you patiently.

This test is far more trying. Although slow at first your thoughts become more clouded. The screens beep and switch to red almost immediately.

>"Interesting. Zee chemically induced stimuli is far more responsive. Zat is vere vee vill find zee key to unlocking zis mystery."
>"I've got a better solution: ending treatment."

Nelhav shakes her head at Lee.

>"Doctah Roth, flush her system if you vould."

The man turns off the IV and replaces it with another. Within seconds you're back to normal.

>"Commandah, vhile zis is all very complicated und only a preliminary test, I haff a theory. At zee moment zee terrazine has wired your brain for aggressive behavior as vell as psionic potential. Zee purpose of zee Jorium is to counteract zis development und, powerful zough it is, it is not enough. Howevah."

The Doctor walks over to the displays.

>"I may be able to engineer a compound from zee terrazine zat provides zee benefits viffout zee side effects. But I vill need to continue zee terrazine treatments und zee tests until I haff zee results."

Doctor Lee interjects.

>"She's understating the damage here, sir. This damage is currently permanent -at best- with what we have now. You continue that treatment and it'll get worse, you might even develop more symptoms that we aren't even aware of yet."

>"Zhink of zee possibilities, Commandah. If vee pick up zis research, if vee are successful, vee vill be able to create psychics from -any- volunteer. Any marine can be a ghost."

>"And you might not be able to see it because you have to wear a straight jacket to keep you from killing yourself."

You will still need a source of terrazine, and likely other materials as well.

You head to the Mess Hall, you need a break after those tests. Charlie, Tyrone, and several marines are present with the new Chef, who's name you didn't actually learn. Luckily your adjutant brings up his personal file now that one exists.

Name:Gordon Green
Sex: M
Current Rank: Private
Current Assignment: Chef
Additional Training: Marine
Age: 22
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 193.4 pounds
Known Relatives: None
Addt'l Notes: Forcefully Recruited from Lakas security forces on New Albuquerque.

Whatever he's cooking smells good. You step forward with the rest of the crowd and listen to the man.

>"- Here, look, we got the color, we're starting to get the floatin' action over here. That's what I'm talkin' about! Alright, here, we got some more wings over here, we're gonna season these with a little salt - awww yeah baby. Annnnd, little pepper. Now I like a lot of fresh ground pepper. So here's what I do, I do this layer here, then, we sorta just wanna turn 'em over a little bit, so now we can season this side as well."

>"We're all excited about salt and pepper, now?"
>"Beats the machine-pressed rations we've been eatin', baby. I love me some chicken wings."

You nod, amused. At least the chef appears to be enjoying himself now that he has a crowd. You head to one of the tables, where Barney, Jessie, and Daisy are sitting.

>"Evenin', Commander."
>"Haaaay Boss."
>"Any chance we'll get deployed, soon? I haven't been able to set anything on fire for days."
>"You might roast some Zerg before too long, Daisy. But no telling right now."
>"Ohh I love me some roast Zerg, how about you Barney?"
>"I roasted Zerg-dogs once!"
>"You sure did, buddy."

The conversation, while Jovial, reminded you of your potential mission. You take your leave back to your quarters.

>"Adjutant, bring up the information recovered from the Lakas compound."
>"It is onscreen now, Commander."

Your quarters are larger than most, with an entire wall dedicated to a single viewscreen across from your bed. You remove your helmet and sit down. The Broodmother's strike patterns and times are laid out before you. The patterns seem random in time and place. Some of them are just sightings. Sometimes the force would've easily been over-run, but the Zerg pulled back at random. Several times the Zerg didn't even engage the New Albuquerque forces. There's no hive. There's no base of operations. There's no infested town. There are only 5 broodmother sightings, and all of them are eyewitness accounts - she doesn't exist for all the evidence you have.

>"Adjutant. Has the information already been sent to Dale?"
>"Yes, Commander."
>"What did he have to say about it?"
>"Replaying logged audio record."

The grizzled veteran is onscreen. You recognize the background noise from one of the videos you recovered, a marine squad fighting zerglings aboard a ship that was boarded on the sector. There were no survivors.

>"There. Right there. That one on the left. He has a perfect flank but he keeps going."

The man draws from his cigar, then takes a drink from a short glass, before playing it again. The background noise of C-14's and marines barking orders can be heard.

>"He had a perfect flank. That marine was dead. But he -kept going.- Where are you going little zergling. What are you looking for. Did you find it?"

The man stares intently.

>"It isn't minerals. You didn't take those. It wasn't gas, the tanks were full. It wasn't the people, you left their bodies."

He puts out the cigar on the desk.

>"They're after something. She wants... something."

End recording.

>First consensus detected: Sall.

You head to the bridge, the knowledge of your original mission weights heavily on your shoulders. Your original intention was to ask him where to go next, but you recall he's also lost family. Recently in fact.

>"Evening, Sir."
>"XO. How're you doing?"
>"Little swamped. Between managing ship operations and base construction. You may want to consider appointing a commander of this base before I do it for you, sir."
>"No, XO. How are -you- doing."

He goes silent for a bit, as he puts his pipe in his mouth.

>"There's a reason the bar's happy hour happens to be my lunch hour, Commander."
>"Alcohol's... free for the crew, XO."
>"You can imagine why I need to go during happy hour then, sir."

He puffs a few clouds of smoke in the resulting silence.

>"Isn't it dangerous to smoke on the bridge?"
>"Extremely, sir."

He lets out another puff of smoke. You lean on the guard-rail before the large window, the both of you watching Murric's space lanes and the vast star-studded darkness.

>"I'm sorry about your son, XO."
>"He saved a lot of lives. He did his duty as an officer."
>"He was a good man. Perhaps one of only a few."

The XO nods.

>"After what happened to me, the years I spent on this ship, I knew his fate. I had done everything I could after the fall of the Confederacy to keep the peace. I bought the lies of the Dominion. I brought my son into the fold thinking he could be a hero that I was not."

The XO removes his hat and looks down.

>"I didn't stop to think that he would die like a hero, as well."

You're not good at this whole comfort thing. You place a hand on the XO's shoulder. He straightens up and places his hat back on.

>"Any ideas on your zerg broodmother?"
>"None. She's a mystery to everyone. Dale thinks she's after something specific."
>"I recommend we look at expanding our anti-zerg capacity then. Widow mines would be our best option. Upgrading our siege tanks wouldn't hurt either."
>"Any ideas on where to go, then?"
>"We can get some samples from HA002, if you want to trust your scientists to figure out how to make zerg more dead. Alternatively Station 114 is likely to have some confederate technology available. More advanced technology we'll need to hit a Dominion target, but we just aren't ready."

To the station we go.

Ask what forces he thinks we should send, and what we should leave.

Also, look for a commander for our ground base.

Ask his and adjutants input. Leave the commander with money to buy more land so we can set everything down at once, and hire more SCVS.

also, more shipboard scvs before we leave. Plus ones suit per valkryie, and the crew members should get trained.

Possibly cmcs for our crews as well. Both Just in case they get forced down somewhere.

we can afford the time and resources for this, and the Valkyries have the space for it. No reason not to.

As you begin to devolve into really, really bad tactical decisions you decide it's time to call it a day. You nod to the XO, then return to your quarters. The last few minutes you spend awake are spent reviewing the information on the broodmother.

Who is she. What is she. What does she want.

You slowly drift to sleep.

just take all the valkryies. One cna only hold off eight or so wraiths.

Three, plus foru wraiths?

we're looking at 30+ ships to down us.

See about ats weapons for at least one valkryie first, though. Plus scvs/cmcs.

Might be useful. Like the gun in pilots bail out kits.

Your suit is gone. The thick mud camouflages you from your prey. You duck behind shrubs, rush between trees, and stop to kneel down at the tracks. Zergling prints. Thousands of them. You hear the bestial roar of some nameless monstrosity in the distance. You clutch your spear tightly and stand upright. The jungle shakes around you. The roar grows in volume. They'll be upon you soon.

They pour from the shadows. Trees fall at their sheer numbers. Dozens and dozens of them. They don't stop coming.

>"And so... very... pointless."

The looming figure towers past the endless swarm of zerglings. A brood mother. Her talons held back as she gloats at your inevitable death. You will not give her the satisfaction. Although you are dead you will give her something to remember you by...

You vault over the zergrlings with your spear, and take careful aim at the fiend. Your point pierces one eye, and goes through the back of her head. She raises her claws and pierces your chest as you kill one another.

And then... she laughs.

She laughs, and she laughs. The spear pierces through her skull and before your very eyes she starts to heal. It was all in vain.

You aim your C-14 skyward and let loose some rounds. Your city is free. Your people are free. The burning wreckage of the viking before you stands as a trophy to your rebellion!

That's when you first hear the dropships. Your comms officer can be heard in the background.

>"We're at 43rd and Higara. Does anyone have birds in the air here!?"

That's when you catch a glimpse of them as they get closer. They're coming from direct sunlight so it's hard to see, but you can make them out.

>"DOMINION!"

>"What!? Here!? What the fuck are Dominion-"

Joey's head flies clean off as the gauss cannon fires at you. You duck behind a building. You hear the screams of your comrades as the ship opens up. You can hear marines dropping to the ground, and then a voice that chills your bones.

>"Split up, marines. She was here. They were all here. Look for clues."

>Run for your life.

You man up and turn around the corner. You don't have time to aim as you pelt the marines and dropships with rounds. Two of them go down, but the other six aren't so impressed once your gun starts clicking empty. You drop the rifle and stand there, knowing your fate.

A single ghost steps forward, an orange... stupid ribbon thing flutters around his neck. He points a pistol up against your forehead. You are thankful that these CMC's have built in urinals.

>"I am looking for a ghost. Purple. Female."
>"I don't - I haven't met any-"

You are plunged into sudden darkness.

You hang from the side of a Banshee, soaring over a desert planet. Explosions resound all around you. Several other banshees are available on your wing. Mia sits in the cockpit, and you can hear her speak.

>"One sold something that he never could replace."

A large explosion rocks the ship. The lights dim momentarily. Several Mutalisks soar past.

>"One found religion and the other lost faith."

A banshee engine whines as one crashes into the dunes in a cloud of black smoke.

>"One hits the bottle till his problems go away."

The radio cackles, cries of dying pilots and dropship teams fill your ears.

>"Some held around while the others couldn't stay."

The ship is rocked, and you suddenly find yourself in a freefall as you fall from the Banshee.
