Evening lads, it's that time again. Hopefully we'll finally get around to counting the spoils of war and building up the tribe. Previous threads:

I'll post the most recent update in a moment, along with choices.

Gronk began to knuckle his way down the path, wondering what had happened to his axe. After a few moments, he remembered throwing it at some dwarves before pursuing off into the tunnels. It was a relief to now that it wasn’t buried under the mountain. He quickly neared the end of this branch of the mine and found nothing but smells to guide him. He could easily smell the blood and sweat of the trolls, and was just able to pick up the humans past it. It took him some minutes to catch up with those who had been making the smells. He had sent three trolls after the humans, believing there to be only one human. Now he saw that there had been three, each stranger looking than the last. The first, currently pinned under the claws of one of the trolls, had a beard like a dwarf. Except that it was pearly white and reached down to his ankles. His clothes were blue and purple, embroidered with gorgeous emblems. The second had a face that had clearly been born to fight. The nose and mouth very strangely twisted into an unattractive smirk, and that was before the scar tissue and abrasions were taken into account. This human wore strange leather armour that interlocked like scales. On his back was a sword that almost big enough for a troll to use. Gronk couldn’t see how he used it. Finally, there a thin sallow faced man wrapped in black clothe and covered in knives. He eyes were darting constantly from side to side, searching for something. Gronk growled. These three were a complication.

>Should Gronk eat the humans, listen to what they have to say or go back and see if the dwarf leaders were caught?

Optimistic bump...

Finally! I've been waiting for this.

Right, that's enough time for people to join. Counting these, I'll write the update.

Let's listen to what the humans have to say.

Hello guys, have been keeping up with the troll, insect and gnome thread with the archives, because I'm on vacation. Will participate in this thread for as long as the wifi will hold

Sorry guys, had a computer malfunction. It's fixed now, but I've only just started the update. It'll take 5-10 minutes to finish.

Let them know of their wrong doings and how they wronged us

Let them know why their companions were devoured and why all this could have been avoided

Gronk walked to the nearest, the bearded one that smelled of age. He waved away the attendant troll and picked the human up. Looking into the human’s eyes, he asked what it was doing here. The question was quietly spoken and without obvious malice. But the effect of a low, soft question from a towering troll still covered in blood was its own threat. The human gave a little gasp of shock upon hearing common from a troll, before clearing his throat in a nervous way. His eyes flicked to his comrades once or twice before he began to talk. He said that he had come here to study the ancient artefacts the dwarves had in their mine, and that the other two were his guard. The one in black shrilly screamed that those were lies, but was silenced by the troll guarding him. Gronk had the troll let him speak, and heard a far more likely sounding story.

>Cont.
>>
>>26072950
The knife wielding human said that they had been hired as troll hunters, after an encampment in the mountains had disappeared. It wasn’t uncommon for camps to be attacked, but trolls were rarely organised enough to destroy a whole camp and kill off everyone that fled. This camp had vanished without a trace. A second, larger, camp had been sent to continue the last ones work and research, but the authorities in Märlas had worried about the growing troll population. These three had been hired to find out as much about the trolls as they could, and kill a few if possible. They had travelled with the second camp, accompanying them to where they had pitched their camp. They had gone out into the wild for a few days to look for traces of troll, only to return to a ruined camp. They doubted they would make it back to Märlas without provisions, so had decided to make for the dwarven mine instead. When they reached the mine, they had tried to warn the dwarves of the danger, but Gronk’s attack had come mere hours after their arrival. Gronk looked at the three and glared. He found it unlikely that such a weak looking trio could ever kill a troll, but he had doubted any goblin could wound a troll and then lost half his face. Looks could be deceiving.

>Should Gronk kill them all or keep them prisoner? Or a combination?

Be careful though the power is indiscriminate in what it disintegrates Gronk had better have space around him when/if he does that.

Gronk reached out casually and plunged a claw into the bearded human’s chest. He wrenched it down, slicing through the man’s rib cage and gaudy robes. Then he pulled his claw out and grabbed the man, bringing him up to his mouth. With a few savage bites, he devoured him. Fresh human blood mixed with the congealed mess already decorating Gronk’s chin. While doing this, he never broke eye contact with the flat faced human with the sword. Despite losing some blood to his face, the human didn’t look away or blink. The one in black, however, threw up over his own chest. As Gronk swallowed the last lump of the unfortunate human, the flat faced one suddenly twisted. The troll holding him had one arm against his chest, pressing him to the wall. But the troll was completely focused on Gronk eating the other human. The flat faced one slipped under the arm and rammed a dagger into the troll’s eye. Ducking and rolling through the bull’s legs, he drew the massive sword that was strapped to his back. He faced off towards Gronk with a challenging position.

>>
With a grunt of dismissal, Gronk stepped forwards. The human span the sword around his body, making the great weight of metal move fast enough to make the air whoosh. He sent it slashing towards Gronk’s neck, only for Gronk to raise an arm. The sword hacked into it, tearing half way through before stopping. Gronk reached out, quick as a pouncing viper, and snatched the blade of the sword with his other hand. With a sharp yank, it slipped from the man’s fingers. Gronk simply stepped forward plunged three of his claws into the human’s chest, before throwing him across the room. His corpse slammed into a wall and slid down. Pulling the sword from his arm, the Big Papa ordered his trolls to gather up the body and bring it and the live human to the hall. The live human was not to be harmed, at least not yet.

As they reached the cross roads, Gronk swung down the other tunnel, after the dwarves. Once again, he let his mind drift as he knuckled down the passage towards the end. He thought about what the human had told him. If it was true, then the authorities at Märlas were somewhat more prepared than he had thought. He could see the difference between attacking a city not expecting him and one that had locked the gate and had men holding the walls. On the other hand, he remembered Ragnar and Moruk saying the walls were cracked in some places anyway, so perhaps it didn't matter.

i think we should get other troll tribes under our rule before we move on south. we now have the magical power and weapon/armor knowledge to make an easy job out of other tribes, if they refuse to bow.

He finally reached a wooden door frame that had presumably once had a door. After he had eased himself through it, he found the door some metres from the frame. On the floor next to it was a dead dwarf. He shuffled on, straining with his ears and nose. He heard slight movement up ahead, and smelled a little blood. As he rounded a corner, he found the dwarves and his trolls. The trolls were standing over the dwarves, about six of which had been rounded up and forced into a corner. One more was held in the huge talons of a troll, his eyes wide with fear. The troll clearly had him poised to be eaten, his mouth already opening in anticipation. When he heard Gronk, he dropped the dwarf to the floor and turned around. Gronk knew he had ordered the dwarves to be taken alive, but that had been almost an hour ago. He could understand the trolls getting a little bored.

In a single bound, Gronk cleared the room and grabbed the offending troll. Two swift blows to the head disorientated him, and then Gronk heaved him up into his arms. Taking a couple of shaky steps, Gronk proceeded to hurl him at the others. With grunts of shock, they tried to catch him, but were sent onto their backs by his airborne weight. Suddenly Gronk was among them, his claws flashing. Squeals and shrieks of pain echoed through the mine, and Gronk sliced and ripped flesh until they were all standing again. Gronk roared in their faces, causing each to look down before bending the knee before him. With a contemptuous gesture, Gronk signalled that they should rise. He told them to escort these dwarves to the main hall. When he arrived, he found all of the trolls not hunting slaves with Moruk gathered there. With the mine his, he realised that the temple seems small by comparison. On the other hand, he had complete control there. It wasn’t as grand or defendable, but he knew its layout.

>Should Gronk take the prisoners back there or bring the females to the mine? Some prisoners will die on the long, cold trip.

Looking over the trolls that stood on the hall’s floor below, Gronk selected one of the younger bulls and called for him to climb the stairs to him. When the trolls had gained the platform, Gronk grabbed him y the shoulders and looked deep into his eyes. The troll stared at him with idolatry and hero worship clearly present in his gaze. After a few seconds, Gronk asked if the boy had killed during the battle. The troll nodded, and said he had slain three of the dwarves in the weapon room where Gronk had slain the grey beard. Gronk seemed to consider him for a few seconds, before ordering him to select three trolls to accompany him back to the temple. He was to fetch the female trolls, female goblins and the crippled humans, escort them back and report back to Gronk. The troll’s eyes widened and he threw himself to the floor and thanked Gronk for the job. Then he sprinted down the stairs and roared out orders to three trolls of a similar age to him that they were to accompany him. Gronk grinned, betting this would boost the bull’s ego no end.

Striding down the stairs himself, he dispatched another troll to get a report from Moruk on the capturing of the fleeing dwarves. Now there was little to do but wait for his runners to return. In the meantime, he could explore the mine with his trolls, as the goblins were all with Moruk.

While the tribe was inactive, Gronk decided to have them explore their new home. He sent the trolls out in pairs to root out any dwarves still alive and find out what resources there were. He was also concerned about the layout and depth of the mine. He had no idea how far it extended into the mountain. After a day or two, trolls filtered back to the great hall. The room was beginning to stink, as the few remaining corpses rotted. The few dwarves that were brought back were horrified at the state of the room, and even more so when told they would be cleaning it. The most of the corpses had been eaten by now, including the flat faced human Gronk had killed. Gronk only hoped that he didn’t absorb the human’s ugliness as well.

Gronk spent many hours interrogating the dwarven leaders. They told him of the mine’s capabilities and resources, though he was never quite sure if they were being truthful. According to them, the mine had two forges, an armoury, an underground plantation of edible crops and seven shafts that ran deep into the mountain which contained any number of metals. They said there were no more tunnels in or out, other than the gate, the abandoned shaft and the escape tunnel the non-combatants had fled down. They guided Gronk to all the locations in the mine they had mentioned, showing Gronk the truth of their words. They unlocked any door that was locked and handed the keys to Gronk. His claws weren’t nimble enough to use them, but that was what goblins were for.

In the weeks following the battle, Gronk grew somewhat. Not much, though he attributed that to lack of real foes. There had been nothing to truly test his physical prowess.

thats probably because we worshipped right after every battle. but the powers were gained when gronk ate someone powerful. his first powerup was eating the old chief and noone was even worshipping him back then.

With the mine’s layout and resources identified, Gronk decided to remind the trolls who was the divine one. He set them to make a tribute to him, either something edible or a monument. For many days he worked on controlling his new found destructive ability, while they scavenged and built. He found he could extend the field a little further each time he tried, until he could make it almost a metre around his body. He was still unable to select what to turn to ash and what to leave unharmed, but he was sure it would be possible eventually. He also found time to practice with the sword, finding it to be far faster than the axe though with less weight to it. When he saw the monument, he was somewhat impressed. The trolls had dragged a huge slab of granite into the great hall and forced the few dwarves present to chisel it into a likeness of Gronk. It was rough, but was clearly him. In one hand he held a twisting handful of fire.

Some days after it was completed, Moruk, the trolls and his goblins returned. With him were many slaves, so many that they far outnumbered the trolls. Most were either too young to fight, too old or disabled in some way. Never the less, they were a huge work force and completely terrified of Moruk and the trolls. It seemed that he had been very vocal in butchering their few guards, shocking the remaining dwarves into obedience. Moruk brought them back and made them bow to the great statue of Gronk. His grin was one of pure pride, as he looked up to Gronk and gestured to the new slaves. Then he climbed the steps and prostrated himself before the Big Papa. His loyalty was clear, and Gronk wondered if he should give Moruk a public reward.
>>
>>26075649
Why don't we try both approaches? Ask him how much his employer is paying him (ask Ragnar to calculate this amount) and give him more gold and "promise" him lordship over Marlas if he pledges to help us. If he refuses, we eat him.

Give him a random troll finger off a corpse or something to take back to his employer as "proof" that he slew whatever troll was plaguing the area. Tell him to show them our old temple hideout if he asks where the troll lair is.

Then, declare all goblins free-children. No troll can eat them, kill them, and they must pay a blood price if they harm them to the injured goblins family. Dwarfs are still slaves though. After that, hold big party for free-goblins and trolls.

Then, scout-walk east and work on our farms. We have many more slaves now, but can we really trust these underground farms?

>>
>>26076422

And we'd eat them to the last if they tried anything
>>
>>26076432
We know that there are goblins who've gone native already, though. The ones loyal to Moruk.

We just need to work on indoctrinating them.
>>
>>26076422
As far as I'm concerned Goblins aren't abused or anything- they're basically little trolls- as actual trolls are too busy beating the shit out of the prisoners to abuse the goblins.
>>
>>26076432

We can do it now, but they breed faster than we do. The future could be problematic.

We need to make them second class citizens rather than slaves, and have them depend on us, rather than the other way around. How can we encourage dependency?

Also, now that we have the minotaur breeding prowess, we need to claim all female humans for Gronk.
>>
>>26076448
Some of them are still civilized. We don't know the percentage of goblins who've gotten as bloodthirsty as Moruk's goblins yet.

We could dedicate an action next turn to improving/examining our relation with them.

>>26076466
There's only 1 female human left.

And we're already teaching their children that trolls are their masters. So there's that.
>>
>>26076484

Can minotaurs breed with dwarves, or goblins?
>>
>>26076512
They can breed with anything, yes.
>>
>>26076524
Well we have a shit load of female dwarves...
>>
>>26076524
But Gronk is not a Minotaur, so he has limits. He can breed with some species, which can be found out by testing. The results of breeding with the human are yet to be seen.
>>
Why don't we welcome the Goblins into our society as second class citizens by having Gronk fuck and impregnate all their females?
>>
>>26076549
Better experiment next turn, then.

We could even make it a part of our worship, I suppose.

>>
>>26076623
True. Let's not touch the goblins for now. Maybe rape their females as a punishment if they ever show cowardice or signs of rebellion. But not if they're completely loyal to us.

And hey. If we can inundate them into our cult, maybe they'll even offer their females up willingly in that case.
>>
>>26076623
I agree. How about we don't fuck with their shit but provide them with protection, food and whatnot in exchange for their loyalty and continued services.
>>
As Moruk rose, Gronk placed a heavy hand on his shoulder. He drew him to the edge of the platform and dug his claws deep into the other troll’s shoulder. For a terrible moment, he seemed to be about to toss him out over the edge. Then he turned Moruk to face the trolls below and began to shout out his decree. Moruk was now to be known as the heir of Gronk, to be obeyed in all things and be chief second only to Gronk. With his free hand, Gronk pulled the sword from his new belt and handed it to the younger troll beside him. Moruk’s mouth hung open slightly, as he was clearly over whelmed. With the sword in his hand, he tried to prostrate himself before his chief again only for Gronk to pull him up when he was half way down. As they looked down, the trolls below all sank to their knees in a submissive gesture. Gronk clapped Moruk on the shoulder before walking away. There was work to do.

The goblins were sorted into rooms around the mine, mostly single sex dorms. Moruk’s chosen, his elite goblins, were allowed to bunk with the females. This was recognition of their actions in the battle, leading the prisoner goblins in via the abandoned shaft in what had seemed at the time to be a suicide mission. They hadn’t, in fact, lost a single man. Their accuracy with stick throwers and vicious hand to hand fighting with their swords had seen them through. Tink-Tank had also survived, despite taking a wound to the leg from a dwarven stick thrower. Gronk set him to work getting used to his new workplace, the larger of the two forges. Gronk had several dwarves assigned as his underlings. These dwarves were told that if Tink-Tank was injured or the armour came out flawed, they and their families would pay with their lives.

>Cont.
>>
>>26076690
Gronk also spent much time talking with the black clad human. He talked of Märlas’s defences openly, without any threat or bribery. Perhaps being in the presence of Gronk was threat enough. He said that Märlas hadn’t been invaded in its entire history, and had given up maintaining its walls. In some places, there was no wall and the gate had no lock. Instead of a military, they had a corrupt and lazy force of watchmen. Many citizens owned weapons and the city often hosted mercenaries, but they were more likely to flee than fight. Finally, Gronk sent trolls out to scout the terrain of the mountain.

Tribes who refuse will at least be rid of their chief and forced to bow or will in worst case scenerio the tribe will face complete annihilation. we should unite the troll before we move to conquer southern settlements.
>E: train trolls and slaves.
>D: start on armors for trolls.
>>
>>26076877
Diplomacy requires you to know where they are. I'll count that as scout north shall I?

>>26076864
Diplomise meaning breed with?
>>
>>26076877
I'm not sure if we know where any other troll tribes are, but I like your idea.

Sticking by my original votes though.

Guys, what should we do with the prisoner? Kill him? Keep him around? Milk him for more info?

>>26076875
You Eurofags and your superfluous u's.
>>
>>26076875
Oh, then I'm changing my vote from this
>>26076872
To
>Research fortifications (via dwarves)
>Research armor through Tink-Tank
>Train trolls and slaves (melee)

I'm thinking we might want to have Ragnar start training some of our trolls in the use of earth magic? Even minor earth magic would help.

No trolls have shown the gift of magic, though you can try. I think I mentioned it a few threads ago, though I don't remember.

The rogue is obviously a coward. Maybe we should ask him what HE thinks we should do with him. It'll open up his mind to us and the way he thinks.

>>26076953
Ah, I see then.

Well.

Maybe we can have our guys study the dwarven ballista, then make a portable version for trolls. Mobile artillery, heh.

E: Diplomacy: Goblins, sovereignty of trolls
C: Scout North

THOU SHALT
>>
>>26076984
I like you, Anon. Let's do that next turn?
>>
>>26076988
We have three actions.

>>26076935
>>26076984
Assuming these are both you, I suppose that counts as fortifications.

>>26077004
IT SHALL BE DONE!
>>

Start up the FORGES!
>>
>>26077021
Yes, those are both me.
>>
>>26077019
We can definitely do it next turn or now, but I'd like us to have it before we attack Marlas.
>>
>>26076984
Also holy shit do you realize a dwarven ballista is probably a crossbow in the hands of a troll?
>>
>>26077089
>>26076984
We need to do this
>>
The votes as I've counted them for this turn stand as

>Scout North
>Scout Märlas
>Research and build armour
>>
>>26077099
>>26077089
>>26077054

trollish crossbowmen.
HNG!

You guys all missed the big fuss over that in thread one... good times.

>>26077150
Oh man, I remember that.

To think our dreams would come true this soon.
>>
>>26077150

Is that where trulldrull raegquit because it was too "techie" and not "gore and viscera" enough?
>>
>>26077293
I don't think having trollish crossbows is too techie at all. If anyone thinks that's techie, look at the gnome civ thread in which they already have jetpacks and revolvers after what is pretty much a matter of in-game months.
>>
>>26077293
Yup. He returned next thread and joined in again though.
>>
>>26077341
>gnome
regardless, that a whole different setting, you cant compare.
>>
>>26077379
I try not to judge, as it's some other guys game. I like the troll way, slow and steady.

Only a few days behind Moruk, the part from God Eata arrived. The female trolls were very pleased to see Gronk, presenting him with the new cubs that had been born. Most were male, though there was a female cub as well. Every single one of the crippled humans had died or been eaten on the trip. The female was also dead, from child birth. Gronk’s son by her, however, was perfectly healthy. Half troll and half human, he was a strange thing. His arms were too long in proportion to his chest for a human, and his hair was too thick and long for a human. His teeth were far longer and his nails were black and claw like. He had once fallen and cut his head, only for the wound to seal after less than an hour. The most disturbing thing about him was his eyes though. Neither human nor troll, they lacked irises completely, being merely pools of black.

The trolls that had been scouting the mountain returned as well, giving little information that wasn’t already know from other scouting missions. There was a lot of loose rock in the territory, dumped by the dwarves as they cleared their mine. There was an abundance of animals, as the dwarves had rarely hunted. With the scouts returned and the tribe back together, Gronk felt more comfortable sending trolls out into the world. He dispatched his two deputies, Moruk and Ragnar, in opposite directions. Moruk was sent, with his goblins and a few trolls, to scout out the defences of the city of Märlas. Ragnar was sent North to find any other clans or living beings further into the mountains, with an escort of three bull trolls. Tink-Tank said he was going to start forging the first set of armour, and spent two hours measuring Gronk. The marked one wondered what to do with the black wearing, knife using human.
