"This board ain't big enough fer TWO God-Eaters!" Edition.

"The untested grow weak.

Those unwilling to change, fade into history."

...welcome home, kids!

Yay lets do this!

Brief Recap:

The counter-attack on Kaalun was successful! After much sneakery and just a bit of unorthodox luck, the raid succeeded with minimal casualties. The return party should arrive back in a few days.
~
A Queen Tunnel Worm attacked the Hive while the bulk of the inhabitants were assaulting Kaalun. Fortunately, it was lured into the Hatchery, where an intense mind-battle took place between it and Rozooll. The God-Eater prevailed after an exhaustive exchange and now controls the beast!
~
A stranger found himself in the Oasis. He was brought before the Queen and he introduced himself as Ronin the Wanderer, a blind elf. Despite his lack of regard for Rozooll's power, he was found invaluable in his magical knowledge and was invited to stay among the hive. He accepted, but on a few terms.

>Cont.

(Note: I removed shrub/hide sacs. They were pretty much functionless)

Ronin decides to hole up in the main chamber for now. Apparently he doesn't mind the lack of privacy too much.

With the farmland above recently repaired, harvest is back to it's usual productivity.
(+8.9 Units of food)
~
Deciding to waste no time in finding out what Ronin knows, Rozooll summons him to the hatchery for her tutoring. It turns out spells that don't directly pertain to the desert and/or mind control can be difficult, especially given the Insect's naturally negative disposition towards magic. He teaches her a few words, as well as some hand motions, and much progress is made. Ronin thinks that with a little more training, she'll learn a new spell.
~
Two Nomads are sent to scout out the desert, one back North, the other to the unexplored South. They return at sundown, unharmed, but the Nomad who travelled North reported finding a great deal of tracks. Though he had to return before being able to follow them.
~
Ronin is asked to help the Curious Ones develop a form of documentation. He replies, with no lack of honeyed snark, that a blind man wouldn't be able to offer much in the 'writing department'. Medinh, however, offers to take up this task.
~
The remaining members worship Rozooll, for her valiant defense of the Hive, as well as her power in dominating a Queen Tunnel Worm. She feels a great amount of pride and strength at such devoted worship. The rituals the humans have started to teach her children seem to somehow enhance this effect.

I say keep Studying Magic for one more turn before trying to replenish our numbers after the battle.

I also had an idea to create a sort of watch system, just to keep an eye on the surrounding area. We could dig long tunnels outwards in all directions, with an exit up into the desert to allow a spotter to pop up and observe easily. The tunnels would allow faster and safer travel as well as potential ambush points for attackers.

Wait so whats happening with the royal we brought in? Have we talked to the bitch yet and indoctrinate her?

Harvest brings back 8.7 Units of food
~
The Curious Ones studying agriculture find ways to improve land cultivation. Harvesting is improved, slightly.
~
The Queen meets with Ronin to resume learning magic. This session goes a bit smoother, despite some magical mishaps (scorch marks adorn the chamber), but Rozooll finally breaks ground and masters her first spell!
[Spell Learned: Firebolt!]
~
The remaining Curious Ones look into improving the Warriors' effectiveness. They find that a lot of the Warrior's equipment is of inferior quality. They set their minds to improve their smelting methods.
~
Discussion on a tunnel/lookout system is started. Some Rozoollim are still in favor of building The Spire in the Oasis. Further discussion may be needed.
~
The Legion should return from Kaalun next turn...

~
Satisfied in her magical knowledge, at least, for now, Rozooll resumes laying eggs. She lays a clutch of 12 eggs, however these eggs are different than before. They all have a strange, fleshy tone to them.
~
The Curious Ones keep at their work in improving their smelting methods. The process is ongoing, but they claim to be close to a breakthrough.
[-5 shiny ore chunks, -1 Flamestone]
The Curious One in charge of documentation is working hard with Medinh to derive and develop a language. It's hard work, but it's making progress.
~
Ronin seems to have an affinity for speaking in the Rozoolliim's tongue. He sits in the central chamber, with his Curious One assistant (whom he has taken to calling Zooks), imitating his clicks and chitters.
~
The Hive gathers in reverent worship of their Queen Rozooll. The ceremony is led by Medinh, and with her children in awe of her ability to learn and wield magic, they sing her name, dancing and (in the case of the Rozoolliim) clattering their shells. Rozooll feels a huge rush of energy...she reports that she feels...more fertile.
~
Without surplus Warriors, dispatch to the Tunnel could prove risky.
~
A Scavenger reports that he sees the Kaalun dispatch returning!

>Cont.

The large convoy makes its way over the dunes surrounding the Oasis and within a few hours, they make it to the Hive entrance. Despite some of the dispatch not making it back, most seem to be in good condition still. They come back with about 40 other humans.
According to one of the Warriors who returned, one is their 'Queen', whom they captured as tribute to Rozooll.

What shall be done with the people brought back from Kaalun? What shall be done with their 'Queen'?

Keep the rest in the Oasis above, their 'Queen' is brought down into the hatchery to meet Rozooll.
However the man walking in looks vaguely familiar...
Medinh recognizes the face as well. Before the man or Rozooll can address each other, Medinh speaks:
"Welcome back to the Hive, Hazim."
The man, clearly not expecting Medinh, turns his head, his face going white.
"M...Medinh! I thought you were lost to the sands. I'm so glad to-

"Don't poison this holy place with with your false courtesies, Hazim," Medinh says, his words oozing disdain. "My Queen," he says, looking up at Rozooll. "This cretin was the very same acolyte who betrayed me, as well as my brothers and sisters, nearly killing us before we could return to you. He is a heretic and is NOT to be trusted!"

"P-please, my Queen," Hazim starts, kneeling penitently, "I merely failed to see your radiance. I could not have known of your divine strength. Fear clouded my vision, but now...now I truly see! I-"

Getting slightly irritated that she hasn't spoken her piece yet, Rozooll interrupts, saying:

>A). Welcome him. The people of Kaalun seem to trust him, at least over Medinh. He will have an easier time winning the people over, if that's what you desire.
>B). Do not trust him. Medinh has been nothing but faithful...so far. The people may be slower to listen to Medinh, being denounced by his peer, but in time, perhaps they can be won over. Perhaps.

Rozooll interrupts Hazim, before more of his heretical falsehoods can defile the most sacred of chambers.

"ENOUGH!" Rozooll's voice booming throughout the chamber, "Hazim, you have committed heresies to me and my disciples. However, I offer you a most generous option: turn control of Kaalun over to Medinh. Tell the people that Medinh was right all along. Do this and I will let you live."

Hazim contemplates at first, but realizing that this very well might be a life-and-death situation, agrees.
"O-of course, Benevolent Queen!" He says, bowing hideously low, "Allow me to return to them above, so that I may inform them of their new leader..."

He is escorted to the Oasis, Medinh following behind.

The people seem relieved to see Hazim exit the Hive, but some of that turns to confusion when Medinh soon joins him.

"Brothers and sisters:" Hazim says, "I have made a grievous error. I misjudged these crea-" He pauses, but quickly corrects himself. "these people! They serve a truly divine and higher purpose than I could have ever foreseen. And the first to recognize this divinity was my brother." He gestures to Medinh, standing to his side. "They serve a benevolent Queen, whose only crime is responding to the slaughter of her children in the same way that we greeted them. In my shame, I refuse to declare leadership of you all, henceforth. However, Medinh is more than capable of leading you all to a new and fruitful life."

Some of the people seem confused at this turn of events, a few even giving sour faces. However, no one seems to speak out against this.

With Hazim's end of the bargain filled, what shall be done with him? And the people?

Hazim:
>A). Keep him among the Kaalun citizens. He seems to hold a sort amount of charismatic charm over them. Even recognizing Medinh as their leader, he could probably keep them in line better. But can he be trusted?
>B). Exile! His part of the bargain has been filled, but he was not guaranteed safety under Rozooll's home. Send him into the desert, with a warning to never return.

Harvest yields 9.1 Units of food
~
Medinh and his followers depart for Kaalun. He promises to keep a close eye on Hazim and send regular surplus supplies when possible. His acolytes remain.
~
In accordance to the bargain made with Ronin, he claims the Spell Tomes first, for his own study. What does a blind elf need with books anyway?
~
The strange eggs birthed previously have hatched into larva!
~
The remaining acolytes resume their dutiful worship of Rozooll. Their chants and praise resonate within the hatchery, filling their glorious Queen with strength.
~
The Queen continues to lay eggs, birthing a whole 15 unfertilized eggs!
~
Deciding that a dependable route to their satellite settlement will be needed, Rozooll orders her pet Tunnel Worm to bore its way westward, towards the city.
~
The Curious Ones make a breakthrough in metalworking! Blades and other metalwork will be a bit higher quality, with more bite in their edges.
~
Mazooll is developing nicely, growing more each day. She's already almost as big as the Rozooll was originally.
~
Nomads are sent to investigate the western part of the desert, between Kaalun and Greenhome. They find nothing of note, aside from the tracks made by Medinh and his flock.

~
Work on The Spire has started. It'll take about 4 turns to complete.
~
The larva grow into their shells, these ones are vastly different, though.
They only have 4 limbs, unlike the 6 of the other Rozoollim, and their chitin is a fleshy light tan. Their mandibles are a bit smaller, but they immediately display fluency in both the chittering language of the Insects, as well as Commontongue. This must be the result of the ingested human genetics!
(Caste name available for input. I'll select a default name of my own if no one cares.)

The Queen Tunnel Worm continues to bore westward.

~
A rider from Kaalun arrives!
He bears greetings from Medinh, as well as a small box of supplies.
(+3 hides, 2 Units of food)
~
Curious Ones and the New Caste take on learning about rituals and worship from the acolytes. They observe how they worship Rozooll, note the rituals they perform, and the symbols and other things they do. The whole 'magic' thing they talk about confuses them, but they start to understand the science behind it.
~
Tunnelers are sent down the large passage being dug by the Queen Tunnel Worm to help her out. The digging process is increased by a large amount, thanks to their help.
~
Talk about the potential uses of the New Caste is ongoing. They could serve as potential servants to the Queen and Princess, as well as diplomatic envoys. More discussion may be required.

A Harbinger, 6 Warriors, and 3 Nomads depart for Kaalun.

With the desire to learn more magic, Rozooll summons Ronin to the hatchery. Wishing to improve her natural affinity for mind control, he teaches her what he knows. Much of it comes easy to the Queen, but full mastery is just beyond her grasp. A little more practice is needed.
~
The 16 eggs remain unfertilized.
~
The Nomads dispatched previously have returned! They found that the desert gives way to verdant fields after a few days, describing it as "The Oasis, but as far as the eye can see!".

>>
>>26046383
This is from the 2nd thread. Im not sure if theres a more current one (i havent had time to read the backlong)

List of viable mutations:

>Thickened Carapace (Major):
The exoskeleton of the Queen and all future generations are strengthened. Physical and, to a lesser extent, magical, attacks will be more difficult to pierce the skin of your brothers.
>Hypo-metabolic Glands (Minor):
The Hunger can never truly be mitigated, but improvements to the Hive's digestive processes could reduce food requirements. Food per turn (~1 Day) goes from 3.5 units to 2.5.
>Growth (Major):
All future generations will be one size-class larger than now. This increases brute strength and base endurance/health. The Queen will lay fewer eggs per clutch, due to the egg's size.
>Growth - Queen (Major):
As above, but the Queen gets an enhanced effect. The Queen grows nearly two size categories. On top of the benefits above, her increased size allows a greater number of eggs per clutch.
>Caustic Projectors (Major):
A new caste of Rozoolliim are born.
Developments in chemical reactions allow this caste to produce and fling acrid globules of searing gel to melt through enemies and rock alike.
>Existing Caste Improvement (Minor):
One existing caste is generally improved.
For example, Warriors will be a bit more healthy. A little stronger. Develop basic autonomy when tactics are required,
Workers are capable of more profound constructions, idols, etc,
Curious Ones are more smarta, more curious, etc.
>Adrenal Enhancement (Minor):
Nomads and Scavengers get a notable boost in land speed. This could allow more yield in Scavenging attempts, farther exploration in smaller time frames, improved scouting, and more.
>Write-In (???)

>>
>>26046423

>>
>>26046412
I say we improve our scavengers to become assassin type bugs, sneaking and stuff. They were doing pretty well with it during the assault on the city so lets improve it further more
>>
>>26046444
Or, we could add wings to the Harbringers. Just putting it out there.
>>
>>26046423
Why not make what appears to be a human or normal settlement like >>26046352 suggested with it being small, but underground it is like a whole new hive area with a tunnel connecting it to the main hive.

We could have an entire fort's worth of men in a small encampment with no one being the wiser.
>>
>>26046493
Don't know about harbingers having wings. Maybe nomads would get them along with better eye sight so they can become fantastic scouts flying days on end

>>26046209
can wings be a major evolution, if so i vote for wings
>>
>>26046516

The Curious Ones look into evolution. No new information crops up, just that the Queen has the ability to assimilate genetics from other species. Outcomes in larvae seem to be influenced by the caste that fertilizes them, but for the most part, it's randomized.

D) study the worm, now that she's finished tunneling
F) expand undeground farms. We'll need to get ahead of our consumption again
G) evolve fertile curious ones unless it's a low odds evo.

Hey OP can we get some idea on what valid options for evolution are? Since you haven't given us any feedback about using an evolution point to make curious ones fertile or give create wings?

A) as usual
B) as usual
D) studying the worm is a good idea.
F) use all tunnelers and any available curious ones to expand underground farms

We need to establish watchposts in half a day's distance around our Hive. We have way too many disappearances, and security has been a forgotten topic lately.
Along with this project, we need an enhanced form of hivemind, so that long ranged telepathy becomes available. We have serious reaction time issues so far.
Our Harbingers and Curious Ones should be taught by the blind elf some basics about the world. Sort of building a school where the elf is the teacher. In the long run we could work on using the Queen as a server of sorts, which could distribute information to anyone linked to the hivemind on a need to know basis. So yeah, like Skynet except with biotech rather than robotics and AI.

Gotta say Baron, I really like the choices you make and how you word them.

Oh, sorry! I think I overlooked those in trying to get updates out.

Yes. An Evolution Point can be spent in doing either of those things. They're both major, unless wings are given to only a specific caste, in which it could be a minor.

Evolutions are really only limited to the imagination. And logical reasoning. They're kinda meant to be powerful, but sparse.
>>
I doubt we can evolve wings all of the sudden

We never even have any experience with winged creatures so story wise. I think we should ingest some powerful winged creatures to even get the concept of wings.
>>
>>26047088
I agree. And I vote for an evolution to make the curious ones fertile.
>>
>>26047033
This is why I'm advocating learning telepathy and mind magics.

>>26047040
Thanks, right back at you. I've been at this quest for a while and generally like Civ-control games.

>>26047000
This on the long term to do list, but we need better food income first, to support our growing population.

>>26046977
I think we should make a request that the humans make a settlement atop the hive as well. We farm subterran stuff, humans farm aboveground crops. Gives the hive itself a direct access to trade and such, instead of having to do it through the city and the tunnel.

Harvest/Scavenging returns 9.1 Units of food.
~
Harbingers are sent along the Tunnel to meet with Medinh in Kaalun.
They should be back presently.
~
Work on The Spire is nearing completion. It's looking a bit crude, but seems to look functional enough.
~
The Curious Ones resume studying the Queen Worm. She seems to function off of many of the same principles as Rozooll, able to birth eggs at will, but needing mates to fertilize them.
~
Tunnelers start to expand the underground mushroom farm once more.
(+2 shiny ore chunks, 1 Flamestone)
~
The 27 fertilized eggs hatch into larva.
~
The Nomads return, but with grave news. The tracks belonged to a large group of humans traveling the desert. They managed to spot the Nomads, but the others managed to escape while the group focused on one of them that was left behind. He reports that they were wearing the shells of fallen Rozoolliim as armor. Unfortunately, the Nomad thinks that they could follow the tracks here. There could be a marauder attack soon...
(-1 Nomad)

Unfortunately, I think I gotta leave it here for the night. It's getting late (early) and I'm starting to lose focus.

I'll be around for just a little bit more, while I archive the thread and such, if anyone has any questions.

I've also written down the suggestions and such for Evolutions (making Curious Ones fertile) and progress on The Spire and other things, so those will continue first thing next thread. So I hope you don't feel jipped, as far as those are concerned.

Ooh. Seems like it's time for WAR.

It'll be fun using our new spells. What's the range of Domination? Does it require eye contact?
>>
>>26047181
Its all good OP. Thanks for the thread and have a good night :)
>>
>>26047206

Domination doesn't have a set range, necessarily. But it doesn't gain/lose power in relation to proximity of Rozooll. So there's that.

>>26047209

No problem, glad to do it. I only wish that I didn't need sleep, or else I'd keep going.
>>
>>26047181
Oh boy war

See you later
>>
>>26047230
Lol I have the same wish xD Well seeya next time :)
>>
>>26047230
Did you mean to say it DOES gain/lose power in relation to proximity? Because if you didn't, that "But" is a bit misplaced.
>>
>>26047230
>>26047258
But it does*** gain power.
God, I'm losin' it.

I've archived the thread at

...feel free to vote for it, if ya'd like. Just helps new players jump in easier.

Just another reminder that the links to the Twitter and Steam Group can be found here:

With all that said and done, I won't be around to run the thread tomorrow evening, but
Wednesday/Thursday might be a good day. I'm a little uncertain at the moment, with plans being in the air, but if you guys want/need to know at some point, I'll update the Steam Group/Twitter as soon as I find out for sure.
I'm gonna guess Wednesday at about the same time, 0:00 EST.

G'night, children. Thanks for playing!

Thanks for the clarification. Night, OP.
