Pushing distracting thoughts out of your head you work on the forms you were taught at the dojo of centered flame. Feeding your emotions to the flame in the center of your soul you work through the moves known as allegories: techniques emulating various animals and stars, things such as pheonix wing strikes, dragons breath, meteor flamestrikes, celestial orreries.

As you work through them you spend some time thinking on the firebending scroll and how to emulate the dragon in it. Snapping one hand into a makeshift dragon tail and the other into its claws you notice a change in your firebending. Continuing your experimentation you find yourself drenched in sweat before long. Stopping you make cool your head in the courtyards pond, as you rub the sweat out of your face with a handful of water you hear a slow clapping.

"That was impressive Maro, I've never seen an allegory of that nature... did you come up with that yourself?"

"Somewhat, the allegory is my own but I came up with it when thinking of how to emulate a dragon.?" Turning you see Rokan is the one clapping softly.

Though it's been five years, you still remember Rokans favorite method of opening a duel - a rolling meteor kick. Parting the flames as they cascade towards you, you step forward with a stomp and punch both hands forward shooting a biting gout of flame at Rokan, which she deftly rolls under, kicking more fire at you.

Absorbing the bolt you exhale steam - this fight feels nostalgic already. You remember challenging Rokan often as a child, over anything and everything, you had a quick temper and Rokan often did things to deliberately annoy you saying "You looked cuter when mad"... every lost duel meant another thing owed to Rokan and parents upset over burning trees, scorched grass and other destruction. Rokan always took the blame for that, even though it was never her.

A thrusting kick towards the ground shoots a small sheet of flame over stone tiles towards Rokan... which she springs over from a handstand, you know that she had to feel some of the heat though.

Rokan smoothly transitions into a cartwheel you realize she's been toying with you - probing instead of actually fighting. Anticipating her leaping out of the cartwheel into two more bursts of fire and another rolling kick, you spin a defensive wall of fire up from the ground and around you - it absorbs the fire bolts and when you let it explode into the wave you intended it to be it sends Rokan flying several feet, landing soundly on her bottom.

Rokan launches into an entirely new repertoire of moves as the fight escalates, waves of fire are split apart as you dash towards her, bolts of fire barely miss your skin, a whip of fire is barely jumped over and then you're within striking distance. You manage a single punch straight across her jaw and she's down... You've finally won a match with Rokan.

You look to your feet to see Rokan spit out a mouthful of blood and you feel a horrid guilt. "You're still holding back Maro... I suppose that's what I always liked about you, so gentle even though you had such a temper. You could have hit me harder - the monks certainly did". She picks herself up as you stare stunned... then before you even realize whats happening she's grabbed your head and pulled you into a deep, passionate kiss. Regaining your senses you break it off and push Rokan away.

"You violate the terms of our duel the moment after I win it. You want to know what I'm holding back Rokan? Fine, I'll show you" stepping away from her and with a few hasty movements you thrust your hands towards the sky and create a massive fan of many pronged lightning.

"That is what I am holding back and I hold it back because the first time I used it it ended in the death of a fellow student. I'm sure you know Peng from the house of Ten - he's a charred corpse now by my hands." anger flaring you throw two small blasts of fire at the ground and stomp away after shouting at your former tutor.

Not waiting to hear any responses from Rokan you start to head towards Pans rooms - which is when you notice that your mother saw the entirety of the latter half of the duel.

The rest of your party arrives shortly and breakfast is served with the only absentee being Rokan. Lily ends up playing Pai Sho with Maru for quite some time, while Sho practically harasses Mayu and Ming on the subject of what fighting is like.

Allowing yourself to relax you find yourself laughing whenever Lily stumps your father in a match, or when Ming and Mayu decide they're going to put on a display of skills for your parents. Right, I probably could have explained that a bit better. about 6 threads ago as part of the letting the tension relax a bit a guard captain named Ling Yi informed us about something called the 'eight deliberations'... basically they're fun little legal maneuvers in the fire nation that absolve someone of the 'guilt' of a crime they've comitted. Rokan is an influential person and gaining audience with the firelord would be a relatively easy feat for her - it could take as little as a written note. From there you could use it to get the house of ten off your back (you guys still haven't felt the reprecussions of this... yet).

Well, I suppose it would make sense to travel within the fire nation for a while. We'd kind of like the Firelord to take some of the political pressure off us, and more importantly off our family.
