Nearly 30 years go, alien invaders landed on earth. Since then, they have systematically taken hold of nearly all of Europe and Asia and reduced the global population to less than 1 billion. This threat, known as the BETA, is the greatest crisis that mankind has ever faced, and yet humanity still has yet to truly unite against them.

Welcome to MuvLuv Armistice. If you're familiar with the franchise, then most of this will seem recognizable. If you're not, then don't worry if you don't know squat. Everything will be explained in time.

For now, let's just start with the rules of the game.
>>
>>26030819
Rules of the Game
This game, story, quest, whatever you want to call it, mostly relies on player and reader choice to determine outcomes. Different choices lead to different results. However, there are exceptions.

Chance Events
Chance Events are times where luck and fate play an important role in determining the outcome. This is determined by a diceroll. Only the first of such rolls made after an Event has been selected will be accepted. Every roll is made with a number of d6s against a set difficulty. The difficulties are listed below.

Difficulties

Effortless: 3
Routine: 6
Simple: 9
Challenging: 12
Difficult: 15
Hard: 18
Very Hard: 21
Heroic: 24
Legendary: 27
Impossible: 30+

How many d6s are rolled depends on Aspects.

Aspects
Aspects are Jericho's talents, both in and out of his TSF. All actions are tied to a particular Aspect, which is usually (but not always) listed along with the decision choice that prompts the Chance Event. When a Chance Event occurs, a number of dice equal to the rating of the chosen Aspect are rolled. The Aspects and what they mean are listed below.

Might

Might represents Jericho's raw physical aptitude and constitution. It is used whenever he must exert or resist large amounts of force. Possible uses include running, jumping, swimming, attacking in close quarters, taking a hit, and moving heavy objects.

Agility

Agility represents Jericho's finesse and grace. It is used whenever a large amount of coordination is involved. Possible uses include dodging attacks, making a ranged attack, palming items, avoiding detection, and various applications of acrobatics.

Wit

Wit represents Jericho's mental prowess. It is used whenever Jericho must use mind over matter. Possible uses include understanding technobabble, repairing machinery, advanced use of computers, and noticing fine details.

Charm

Charm represents Jericho's gravitas and social acumen. It is used whenever Jericho's ability to motivate or manipulate people is important. Possible uses include intimidation, establishing rapport, telling falsehoods, and leading troops.

It may seem obvious that many of the higher difficulties will be extremely unlikely to downright impossible to achieve, which is why there is a fifth, special Aspect.

The Fifth Aspect: FREEDOM
FREEDOM (always written in All Caps) is Jericho's fifth Aspect, which allows him to do the unthinkable. It represents the spirit of America, the greatest nation ever known, flowing through him. Any time a Chance Event occurs, you can elect to channel FREEDOM into the roll, adding an additional 3d6 to its outcome. Even if this roll still fails to meet the difficulty, channeling FREEDOM mitigates the outcome of that failure. After all, America can never truly falter, can it?

FREEDOM isn't Free
FREEDOM is not a static statistic like the other Aspects. Every time you choose to channel FREEDOM, you reduce Jericho's FREEDOM rating by one. Once spent, that FREEDOM is lost forever, but all is not lost. It is possible to recover Jericho's FREEDOM through several methods.

Dealing with Complications: Even though it is the most powerful nation on the planet, America loves an underdog. Any time Jericho deals with the skeletons in his closet or the fallout of his own actions at serious risk to himself, he regains a point of FREEDOM.
Outstanding Success: Demonstrating the superiority of America can also replenish Jericho's spirit. Any time Jericho succeeds on a Very Hard or harder difficulty Chance Event, he regains a point of FREEDOM.
Tragic Failure: Like a phoenix, America rises from the ashes of even the worst defeats. Any time Jericho fails a Chance Event by 6 or more, he regains a point of FREEDOM.

Note that Jericho cannot recover FREEDOM from any Chance Event in which he channeled FREEDOM.

FREEDOM in Normal Events
You can elect to channel FREEDOM even when there isn't a Chance Event happening. Choosing to channel FREEDOM on a Normal Event generally causes you to accomplish the desired action with more style and success than you would have otherwise. For example, choosing to channel FREEDOM to crawl through an air duct might make Jericho proceed faster or more quietly.

Other uses for FREEDOM
There are a plethora of other, miscellaneous uses for channeling FREEDOM. This is the reserved use for the Custom Choice option. The following list is not exhaustive.

Ignore Jericho's wounds or damage for a short time.
Play the guitar flawlessly.
Make a one-liner sound cool, no matter how bad it actually was.
Ignore the effects of Jericho's Complications for a short time.
Slap a Jap for extra emotional damage.
Create patriotic special effects.
Smite Commies for double damage 3 times per day.
Consume ridiculous amounts of fast food.
Summon 1d6 Bald Eagles (They must be present in the area.)

The Limits of FREEDOM
Due to the immense spiritual strain that retaining FREEDOM causes, Jericho can hold no more than 10 FREEDOM at a time. Having high amounts of FREEDOM tends to have some side effects including: an affinity for large birds of prey, a tendency to carry sidearms even when unnecessary, G-Bomb addiction, and jingoism.

An image has been attached representing how much America per square inch Jericho is holding at each level of FREEDOM relative to other American people, objects or ideas.

With the rules out of the way, we'll get to the next part.

You are James Jericho, a Captain in the United States Army, and the hero of San Jacinto. It goes without saying that you're a pretty talented individual, but why don't we get to know you better? Before we begin, let's have you answer a few questions about yourself.

Question 1: What is your best trait?
Everybody has something they're really good at. What is your greatest asset?

Question 2: What is your weakness?

Question 3: Past Mistakes
Alright, one last question. You’re carrying some scars from your action in Operation San Jacinto, but that’s not all that’s wrong with you. Choose one of the Complications below to represent your past.

Bad Reputation
You’re a mean drunk, and you’ve been hauled off by the MPs more times than you can count. Somehow you made it to Captain, but this is probably as far as you’ll get promoted with your record. You can expect people to not trust you with important duties or information...at least when you’re outside of your TSF.

Bad Blood
This isn't your first stay in Japan. Last time you were here, you committed a serious breach of etiquette towards the scion of Kujou family, one of the five royal families of Japan, and they’re not going to forget that slight. Expect to be seen as a tactless oaf and to be shunned by the Royal Guard.

Bad Break
Emotional scars weren’t the only thing you got from San Jacinto. You took a serious wound in action, and it never quite healed right. You’ve gotten by through lies and bribes, but if your wound decides to act up again, it could put you at serious risk.
>>

"Arrow 3, watch your altitude!"

It's Major Stevens again. He didn't need to remind you, the indicator screaming in your face is doing that well enough. You cut the power and descend. Your F-15 hits the dirt and surveys the situation.

Artillery rains down from the skies in sheets, and twice as many beams of light lance up to meet them. The air is filled with clouds of heavy metal and dust. All around you, you can see Fighters swarming, circling the giant pillar in the distance. Pancho Villa, the Mobile Hive. Explosions light up the ground all around it, as it writhes and slams the ground, sending out wave upon wave of lesser monstrosities.

"Arrow 3, pay attention!"

"Sorry, sir!"

"You can be sorry when you're dead! Now get to your objective!"

You push on the throttle and your Eagle takes off, skimming the ground beneath you. That's right, you've got to get to the target. The launcher on your unit's shoulder holds what you hope to be the key to mankind's first victory. You just need to get closer. You're almost there...

"Jericho, look out!"

You turn to see a veritable wave of Tank-class BETA approaching, their massive jaws chattering in the desert air, crawling toward you on their many arms. One leaps ahead of the pack and toward you. You freeze. Your hand tries to shift the controls, but you just can't make it. All you can see are those teeth coming down around you.

"Jericho!"
>>
>>26031605
"Jericho, wake up!"

You shake your head and lean forward. Where are you again? You look around you to see the uncomfortable seats of a transport jet, complete with a bag of stale nuts in your left hand.

Ah. That's right. You've been transferred. 'Strategic Adviser to the Japanese Defense Forces', huh? The brass should have known not to send you here. Not after the last time.

"Jericho, you alright there?"

You turn to meet your comrade in arms, Wayne Moore. He's a big guy with a thick frame and wild red hair. Honestly, he looks like a reject from the 80's, but he's been a good friend to you.

"Same here. I don't even know what we're supposed to do. Hull hasn't sent me any word about it either."

You shrug and collect your things. Kind of funny. Everything you own can fit in a single bag. Some private with too much time on his hands probably wrote a song about something like this by now...

It takes a bit, but you make it out of the terminal and to the road. This is the Greater Tokyo Area United States Army Airstrip. You wonder what stupid acronym passes for a way to shorten that name as you look around for your ride. You don't see anything on the horizon but the vague outline of Tokyo itself.

"I don't see a transport here. How are we supposed to get there? Hitchhike?"

"Hull's picking us up."

You open your mouth to question Wayne, but as you do, you see a faint glimmer on the horizon. With a cloud of dust trailing behind it, a red flash makes its way towards you. You instinctively take a step back as it barrels past you and spins around before coming to a screeching halt. It's a fancy sports car, a Felalli maybe? The door swings open and a familiar face peeks out.

"Well, if it isn't Jack and Wayne! What a coincidence, right?"

It's Hull alright, Daniel Hull. He's a fop, really. You sometimes wonder how he manages to feed himself when he spends all his money on the moisturizers, the hair spray, the cologne, and all those top brand clothes. However, it seems like it pays off for him; you've never heard of a time when Hull wasn't seeing at least two women.

You and Wayne climb into the car, tossing your bags in what scarce space there is.

"Sorry, I'm not used to this thing yet. Just started driving it this morning."

"Another one of your sugar mommas," Wayne asks.

"Bingo."

You comment that whoever she is, the woman has good taste in cars.

"You think? She's really open, so maybe I could introduce you two?"

'Honey' sounds a little too dangerous for your tastes, so you politely decline. As you enter the city, you ask Hull what the job's been like.

"Oh it's been great. They're just going to stick you in their pilot academy and you're basically just a TA. But let me tell you, it's awesome. The entire school's practically nothing but wall to wall girls."

You remind him that the only reason there are so many girls is because all the guys who should have been their boyfriends are dead.

"Who cares about that, right? If they're facing a population crisis, I'd be happy to help them out with that."

You figure that giving Hull any more ammunition is a bad idea, so you decide to button your lip for the time being and just continue the ride in silence.

"We're here!" Hull says as he throws the car into park.

You open the door and step out. This place looks more like a high school than it does an elite flight school. The shaking ground and the sound of whining actuators and metal on metal contact lets you know otherwise. You follow the noise, completely ignoring the main hall and swinging around to the backside of the campus.

It's a sword drill exercise. You see the F-4...No, F-4Js all cleanly lined up, practicing various maneuvers in synch with each other. You're not sure that drilling proper form is actually useful to a Tactical Surface Fighter pilot, but you keep your comments to yourself as you observe the students.

"Oh, hello. Are you another Adviser?" You look away from the students toward the sound of the voice.

It's a woman, wearing the tan uniform of the Japanese Defense Force. You look down for her name above her breast pocket.

Ueno, huh?

You nod and greet the woman, introducing yourself.

"Ah, Captain Jericho. We've been expecting you!" The woman looks both ways and then leans in close.

"Don't worry. No matter what the Kujou family says, I still think you're a hero."

"Oh right, right," Ueno gives her head a small knock, "I can't believe I forgot about that. Where are my manners?"

Ueno salutes you, standing at attention. "Sergeant Ueno Yoshiko, Instructor on Squad Level Tactics. You're the adviser assigned to me, so I'll be in your care from here on."

Really? Well, that awful convenient. Ueno looks a little young, though, so you ask her about her qualifications.

"Yes, sir! I served in the Japanese Expeditionary Forces until 1997, when the Civil War happened, I left the Expeditionary Forces and joined the Defense Forces."

Civil War? The last time you were in Japan was back when you were a new recruit. Must have been '95 or '96.

"Eh? You don't know about that? It was a big deal!"

You offhandedly mention that you were busy in 97 and 98. Ueno gasps and bows her head slightly.

"Right, the Mobile Hive. I'm sorry, of course you wouldn't know. You'll need to report to the headmaster here, so I'll explain along the way."

The inside of the academy is a great deal more...aesthetic than your own pilot academy was. White tile covers the ground, and the walls are a soft, peach color. Cadets roam the hallways, and every now and again, you catch one giving you a wary glance.

"Anyway the Japanese Civil War was a conflict between the Imperialist and Liberal parties. It all came down to Prime Minister Uehara and his supporters in the Japanese Diet pushing for greater cooperation with the United States and UN forces."

That doesn't sound so bad to you, but Ueno shakes her head.

"Well, Japan had already passed several conscription laws at that point. We were losing our youth to fight in foreign wars, and the Imperialists just wanted to shore up our defenses and wait all this out. The Civil War broke Japan into the Empire of Japan, that's the old government, and the Independent Republic of Japan."

Ueno points to herself. "That's us. The Independent Republic wants to cooperate with the United States."

Obviously. Or else you wouldn't be here.

"Anyway, the Civil War lasted until the BETA invaded. Right now, there's a cease-fire between us until we can get all this sorted out. There's supposed to be some talks about reunification in a few months, and I hope that goes well."

You suppose that catches you up on most of the current events.

>>"The BETA invaded, right? How many hives are there if you're placing strategic advisers in an academy?"

"As of right now, there's just the Kyoto Hive. The Oshima Hive was successfully captured last year, thanks to your country's support, but the Empire of Japan lost a lot of soldiers to your G-Bombs. Our government decided that we should learn how to fight like Americans if we're going to be relying on American weapons to destroy Hives. Therefore, the Strategic Adviser Program was reinstated in order to more fully train our next generation of pilots. It makes sense, right?"

You suppose that's as good of an explanation as any.

"Well, then. I'll just wait out here. Go in and greet the Headmaster. He's a little scary, but I think you'll get along...maybe. One day..."

You face the large, double oak doors before you. Well, no sense wasting time. You open the doors in front of you and step inside.

The inside of the office is incredibly spacious. Bookshelves line the walls, and a thick green carpet covers the tiled floor. There is a large window at the back of the room, and the orange glow from the sunset filters in. In front of the window is a large wooden desk, and behind that desk is a large man. Despite the silver hair and large beard, his skin doesn't show a sign of wrinkles, and his narrowed eyes look sharp.

You walk inside and introduce yourself.

"Ah, if it isn't Captain America. I've been expecting you."

You feel like you've heard this voice before, but you've never seen this man before in your life.

"Don't remember me? You should."

He stands up from his chair and rests his hand on the pommel of his sword...wait. When did he get that sword.

"I am Kujou Kakeru," he draws his sword and points the tip at you, "And I'm going to make your life hell."

I say we focus our academy on combined arms firepower. Heavy gunners wielding 120mm+ cannon and trained to switch out magazines for the target, support gunners wielding 36mm rotary cannon, and then your typical midrange/melee skirmishers using whatever means necessary to keep the main BETA force from swarming gunner positions while the gunners thin out and mop up sections of the BETA swarm and support their skirmishers

meanwhile we see what we can do about getting russian or america missile boats, maybe even an armory ship, to support combat zones with clustered flechette kinetic warhead decoys and resupply containers
