Death-Gifter to each side of the arena, and relay his cordial greetings. He proceeds give a short and ceremonial speech regarding the coming of age for young warriors, and the spirit of competition. Afterwards, he politely bows out, and leaves with his entourage. You do not think he intends to stay to watch the competition.

The first pair of contestants are introduced; their names are called and each steps down into the arena. The match is between an up and coming clan Night-Prowler favorite and a tall young blood from clan Fire-Forge.

Do you:

A. Stay and observe the match.
B. Excuse yourself and attempt to follow Death-Gifter.
C. Excuse yourself and attempt to find a quiet place to monitor any signals from your transmitter planted on Death-Gifter's shuttle.
>>
>>26020575
Wonderful, I thought it was going to be tomorrow, so this is a pleasant surprise.

C. Excuse yourself and attempt to find a quiet place to monitor any signals from your transmitter planted on Death-Gifter's shuttle.

The other option is too risky.

>B. Excuse yourself and attempt to follow Death-Gifter.

Only to make sure he gets into the shuttle where we put the tracking device on. It would suck for us if he jumped ship at this point.
>>

>>C. Excuse yourself and attempt to find a quiet place to monitor any signals from your transmitter planted on Death-Gifter's shuttle.

You excuse yourself and head towards the rear of the arena. You make your way along one of the rear passages and step out into the balcony.

You glance around to make sure no one is near, and casually lean yourself against the railings.

You tap your wrist computer and tune into the transmitter.

Through it, you hear the gentle thrumming of the engine. The shuttle must be lifting off.

A short while later, you hear the Death-Gifter's voice, as he enters conversation with an unidentified female.

"We're going to see the Precentor. Take us to the Hall of Ceremonies."

"Why? Now? In daylight? Do you realize the risk we take? What if someone discovers us? You know as well as I do the Empress has agents here."

"Yes, and I suspect I saw one of them."

"What? Where?"

"At the arena, just now. A Cloud-Viper warrior. First, a Cloud-Viper tries to go through Night-Star's files, then he shows up? We need to warn the organization. We need to see the Precentor. Take us to the Hall, now!"

The conversation then de-volves to small talk.

Do you:

A. Try to find a way to sneak out of the arena and make way for the Hall of Ceremonies.
B. Attempt to communicate to Steel-Arrow and Ashen-Blade and ask them to investigate the Hall of Ceremonies.
C. Go back inside and return to your seat.
>>
>>26021062
>B. Attempt to communicate to Steel-Arrow and Ashen-Blade and ask them to investigate the Hall of Ceremonies.

Keep the police heat onto us!
>>
>>26021062

C. We're not actually going to intercept the shuttle without raising suspicion, so time is not is of the essence in investigating this hall. Might as well just tell them next time we (naturally) see them.
>>
>>26021183
Actually, I agree, but it might be too late.
>>
FUCK YEEEAAAH!

Off topic, where do you live PredQuest? I thought the session would be tomorrow night.
>>
>>26021062
B. Glorious distractions, HO!
>>
>>26021134
>>>B. Attempt to communicate to Steel-Arrow and Ashen-Blade and ask them to investigate the Hall of Ceremonies.

You open a comms channel to your teammates and inform them of what you've heard.

"Right. Good intel." Steel-Arrow responds. "We'll head over to the Hall of Ceremonies and scope it over."

You close the channel.

Suddenly, you pick up an interesting conversation from your transmitter, between Death-Gifter and his companion.

"...why not just kill him?" It's the female's voice.

"What? How can you even suggest such a thing? Do you know the consequences of..."

"It's your city, isn't it? Half of the warriors patrolling the streets used to be under your command. You say he's a threat, so get rid of him. Simple."

"And what then? Have the Empress's wrath come down on our heads?"

"Her wrath is already here, or did you forget what happened to Night-Star? Do it. Strike first."

"How?"

"I'm sure you'll think of something. But make it fast. Best do it before he sees what's coming. "

"Right. I'll alert my agents at the arena now and let them know."

The conversation again drifts into silence.

A moment later, you hear footsteps coming down the hall, and the metallic click of an extending combo-stick.

Do you:

A. Casually step away from the balcony and return to your seat.
B. Continue to lean againt the balcony and pretend to admire the view.
C. Press against the wall and extend your wrist-blades.

B, we lose the element of surprise somewhat, but we also would get the pretense of "Holy shit this crazy ass Nightprowler just tried to shank my ass, could you believe it hahaha?". If we're obviously prepared for them, a. the pretense is off and we have to abort mission b. they'll know that we know and plan accordingly next time.

>>
>>26021721

>>B. Continue to lean againt the balcony and pretend to admire the view.

You calmly lean against the balcony railings and stare outwards at the city vista ahead.

You hear the footsteps come to a stop behind you.

A voice gruffly challenges you. "You! You're not supposed to be here. Follow us, now! We will escort you back to your seat."

You turn, and notice two warriors pointing their combi-sticks at you.

Do you:

A. Tell them the match is boring, and you're just here admiring the view.
B. Tell them you saw no signs of this area being prohibited, and demand they get out of your face.
C. Tell them there's no need for shouting and you'll follow them, then follow them.
D. Tell them there's no need for shouting, and you'll come with them, then attempt to leap forward and disarm them both. (DC: Hard).

"That's quite alright," you tell them in a calm voice, "There's no need to shout; I'll come with you."

You slowly step forward, then suddenly unsheathe your wrist-blades and lunge towards them. You catch the first by surprise, and manage to yank the combi-stick from his hand, but the second warrior is far more seasoned, and meets your lunge with skill.

He deflects your blow, pushes you to the side, and brings a knee up straight into your chest, knocking you backwards.

He spins his combi-stick in a short flourish and points it at you once more.

"Well, orders were to make this quiet, but I doubt anyone will hear us here, with the match and all."

You quickly bring up your wrist-blades and adopt a combat stance. You steel yourself and with all your strength, manage to deflect the tip of the spear.

But the seasoned warrior twists with your deflection and rams his armored shoulder straight into your chest. You're suddenly propelled backwards with great force, and behind you, you feel the railings snap and break.

You tumble backwards off the balcony to face a 30 feet drop into the hard, metallic ground below, one which you will certainly not survive.

You reach out desperately, and manage to grab the outer ledge of the balcony with your right hand. You are now dangling in the air, with only your feeble grip to stop you from certain death.

Above you, you hear the warrior sneer. He puts his foot above your fingers, and prepare to press down. He leans down to stare you in the face.

"No hard feelings. Just an accident. You slipped. It happens."

You ignore the sharp pain in your left ahdn and strain your muscles to pull yourself up. You slowly raise your body towards the ledge, and at last, manage to swing your right leg over the edge. With the added purchase, you bring your head to level with your enemy's. You slam your head forward hard against the face plate of his mask, and hear a sharp crack. You're unsure whether it was the mask which broke or your skull, but the blow drives the enemy warrior off balance and backwards, allowing you to free your left hand.

You pull yourself fully onto the balcony and stand up straight. You glance around, and see your enemy clawing at his mask. He rips it off his face and throws it against the ground. His partner is nowhere in sight. He faces you once again.

Ahead is an open passage way leading back to the arena floor. Your ears suddenly pick up a flurry of conversation ahead of you. You quickly halt and press your back against the wall.

You hear a few murmured assents as the warriors begin to disperse. You hear a low growl, coming from one of the warriors. "You've failed to contain him. You had a shot, and you blew it. Can't risk going after him in public. No more mistakes. We take him down tonight."

You look up at the scoreboard, and notice his opponent was changed at the last minute. He was supposed to fight a young blood from clan Sky-Spear, but has apparently been swapped to a Night-Prowler warrior instead, at the last moment, someone named Dark-Spike.

You lock your eyes onto Sharp-Strike's opponent as he enters the ring. He is unarmed, and wearing a short training tunic. Dark-Spike looks to be fairly young and agile. As he passes by one of the attendants waiting by the entrance, you notice something change hands bwtween the two.

The motion was quick, and hidden from the majority of the audience, but as furtive as it was, it does not escape your keen combat trained eyes.

You're not certain what it was, as you only caught a short glimpse of it, but it seemed to resemble a small capsule. Daek-Spike quickly palms the device, whatever it was, and obscures it into a fold on his tunic.

Your mind races, attempting to deduct what it could be. Could it be venom? Surely a simple autopsy would have revealed foul play. Maybe it was a muscular enhancer? Unlikely; he could have taken that before the fight. Your unease grows.
