@GhostAdjutant

You were a ghost operative of the Terran Dominion, under Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. Your Codename is Delta Phoenix. You received a transmission from Korhal. "The Emperor is Dead. Long live the Emperor. "

It seems like a lifetime since the fall of Korhal disabled your neural inhibitor and you went rogue. With the help of a rogue Dominion Marine, Jacob Henderson, you and your small crew secured a Gorgon-Class battlecruiser you now call The Daluke. The Dominion, bounty hunters, and criminal scum alike are all after you with a massive 1.5 billion credit bounty on your head. But they're going to have to earn it, first.

You stand in the middle of a deserted factory complex on the desert planet of New Albuquerque. A lone gunman knows where your bounty target is, and has challenged you to a duel.

You come upon the factories. It's so far out that the roads are just dirt, tumbleweeds roll past. You sense him long before you see him, but you see a man with a large hat in all black leaning against the door to it.

>"Hey! We're looking for Scarmaster."

The man stands up and walks to the center of the road. He flicks the cigarette he was smoking to one side then holds his arms out. A bandana covers his face, but what is visible is heavily scarred. Somewhat noticeable is the fact that you can't read his thoughts.

>"Who wants to know?"

>"We're here to bring him in, alive or dead."

>"You are, how do you say, Confused. You are here to either die, or walk away."

The man's fingers twitch. You suspect they're hovering over his sidearms.

>"You're outnumbered and outgunned. Give up peacefully."
>"Me? No, no, no. I am not the Scarmaster. I am just a loyal gunman. The man you seek, he is not here."
>"Where is he, then?"
>"Ah, but if I were to tell you, I would not be the loyal gunman."
>"Well, how much would it be to move that loyalty?"
>"The loyalty of slugs can be bought with gold. But not the loyalty of a man."
>"I admire that. I really do. Would there be anyway to sway your loyalties?"
>"There is only one way, seƱorita. And you already know what it is."

His hands twitch, still maintaining their position over his sidearm.

>"Then Draw."

You pull out your sidearm, as does he.
A single shot sounds out. Pain jolts through your hand as your pistol goes flying. He's far too fast. That said, he's also incredibly accurate, and managed to shoot the pistol from your hand without giving you so much as a scratch.

Your squad raises their weapons. He drops his pistols.

>"I am no fool. You win the war, even if I have won the battle. I surrender."

Whiskey steps forward and picks up the man's pistols, though he - and everyone else - keep weapons trained.

>"You seek the Scarmaster. The train carrying him will stop here, and he will load the vultures onto the train personally. From there, they will go to Don Javilito's hacienda."

You must now decide what to do with the prisoner.

You recall the assassin.

>>
>>26018515
Oh man. Yeah, we want this guy. Assuming he's on the level, he's just right for our crew. Speaking of, can we read his mind and tell if he's being 100% honest here, Adjutant?

If so: "I'll do you one better. We'll save him. After it's all over, my offer to join us still stands. We won't hold anything over you. What does he look like?"
>>
You probe his mind. He didn't even know he had a son until Don Javilito pulled him out of the woodwork. A young boy, perhaps 4 or 5, is kept at the compound. Even if it's not truly his son, Enrique feels responsible that he's been taken from his mother. The image of the boy in your mind's eye looks as though he could be related.

You have no doubts as to his previous records. He was indeed a renegade criminal. But it also reveals a good deal of corruption in the government you're currently working for. You begin to question the motives of these bounties, and wish you knew more.
>>
>>26018701
so, shall we set up a trap?
>>
>>26018701
Aw hell, we can agree to help out the kid at least. Tell him we'll do our best to save the kid from the compound if we can.

Let's take a peak at those plans
>>
>>26018701
I am so glad that we didn't just straight up kill super cool gunslinger character like we straight up killed other cool characters.
>>
>>26018701
WELL I LIKE THE POSSIBILITIES HERE

1. Use Enrique's intel to attack the Don's compound, rescuing his "Son" while capturing the Don, dead or alive.

2. Collect the bounty, and recruit Enrique with the promise of sanctuary in our crew. He can bring his "son" if he wants to. If not, find the mother or whatever. He'd probably want to bring him.

3. Look into the New Albuquerque government. Anything we have on file, anything we can find on the system's net. Anything on Murric's net. Anything.

4. If we don't like the cut of their jib, perform a coup.

5. Maybe make Enrique the new planetary governor?

6. Acquire a second friendly planet to our cause.
>>
>>26018782
sounds like a rather simplified but decent enough plan

>>
>>26018817
I will put it forward as an available option once we return to the Daluke, Commander.
>>
>>26018855
>>26018817
What would we even do with one aside use if we could be detected by other psionics?
>>
>>26018833
Fine. Put Hernando, the friendly street merchant in charge. He was a poor youngster who worked his way into a university and who studied law and philosophy back in a core Dominion world. But when he came out to the fringes, he was robbed, beaten, blackmailed, tortured, escaped from captivity, tried to get help but found none, went for vengeance and failed, got drunk and depressed, aged for years, met a girl and got married and content, simply continued to sell food in his town square while squandering his education.

He would be a good choice.

And then Enrique could join us.

Schematics are uploaded to your HUD. The compound has several security layers, automated and not. The train from this station will get you past some of it, however.

You and your crew load into one of the vulture crates and wait. It's not long before you hear the train pull up and feel the crate being carried by SCVs. You suddenly bang your head as the crate goes to one side, but your team manages to remain quiet. At least in any frequency the enemies can hear, November's thoughts are cursing like twelve sailors.

>"Watch it, that's military hardware, not a sack of potatoes!"
>"Sorry, boss."
>"You ain't sorry until I say you're sorry, now just move the goddamn thing."

You wait in the crate until you sense the train moving forward. You didn't plan ahead particularly far, however, as there's another vulture crate on top of yours. You push several times, in futility. You feel your frustration start to build, and despite all odds, the crate lifts up and your crew piles up.

>"Delta, did you just... pick up a vulture?"
>"I... work out."

Maybe the Spectre treatment did something, your psionic strength seems massively increased. Your squad moves up to the door connecting compartments. The next one contains several unarmed criminals with small arms.

Yes, yes there is.

Alright as we've been functioning with the drugs for a bit now... I think we can cross these off of our side-effect list as they would have been noticable pretty quickly.

onset of babbling,
unusual gestures,
compulsive behavior that appears to follow rules such as arranging objects in stacks or lines,
minor audial or visual hallucinations.
>>
>>26019592
we've been on them for like 2 days
>>
>>26019592
Those might be time released, we can't be sure.

If we notice a sudden drop in intellect, sanity, or other such things, then that is cause for immediate alarm, as we're a commander and our own desire for power shouldn't overshadow that

Some of those can probably be controlled more reasonably...I just pray we don't meet Taldarim. That would be...bad to say the least.

>>26019612
Side-effects generally occur the same time the increased enhancements do as well. And we just picked up a damn vulture with our mind.

Like you would waste time leaving evidence of anything other than your target's death. Your team makes it's way to the top of the train and opens the escape hatch.

The maglev is going well over 200 miles per hour, you extend your combat knife and dig in. Your crew does the same as you move from one compartment to the next.

Although this might prove difficult for lesser men, your team has no problems moving past undetected. Eventually you sense the thoughts of various individuals and reveal that Maurice "Scarmaster" Lannett is in the compartment directly below you.

>Hellfire grenade down the escape hatch. No survivors.
>Flashbang down the escape hatch. Eliminate only the target.
>Wait for an opportunity to make it look like an accident.
>>
>>26019662

Make it look like an accident. We are ontop of a train going over 200mph. the less we give away about the fact we are here, the better.

Hmm, yeah.
Given that the kid isn't in there - which we should be able to detect with our psionics - we want to ride out the train to the compound to rescue him. So we should then make it look like an accident when Scarmaster dies.

You wait. It's not like you have any where to be. You place your head against the escape hatch and listen carefully to what you can.

>"Boss, I gotta - take a leak, man."
>"Then get out of here, Jones."

You sense the guard leave, though he appears to be an addict and is using stimpacks on the job.

>"So we're looking at the resoc tanks we got from Governor Lakas. We should be able to get some CMC schematics soon, and we'll be able to help him with that coup."
>"Waste of time, but if he pays us he pays us."
>"Technically he'll be paying the Don, Scarmaster."

>"Nah, c'mon Scar, you know what Mikey meant was-"

The men leave the room, the target is alone.

You drop your head through the hatch, then the rest of your body. You grab the man into a choke hold while hanging upside down from the hatch. He struggles for a few minutes before he loses consciousness and goes limp. The man is extremely large, possibly 300 pounds, and he didn't manage to put up much resistance.

You drop down, and the rest of your team follows. Now it's just the matter of making this look like an accident.

You activate your reactor and step back to the wall, your squad does the same. The guard steps out of the bathroom just as you leave the visible spectrum of light.

>"Boss, you really aught'a have some boys look at this toilet, it's seriously backin' up like a mother- Boss? Boss!?"

He runs over and shakes the man a few times while muttering to himself. He stands up and grabs his hair. Then runs around in a panic. His drug-riddled mind seems to think that he'll be held responsible and killed, and you're not so sure he's wrong.

Eventually in his hysteria he runs into Whiskey and falls back on his ass. It doesn't take him long to realize what's going on.

>"G-G-G-GHOOOOO-!"

Whiskey reacts quickly, grabbing the man by the throat and cutting him off. He pulls the man up by the neck while strangling him. Whiskey pulls the guard close to his face and makes a 'shhh' motion.

You signal your intentions to your squad. The guard's neck snaps and his lifeless body is the first out of the hatch, followed by the rest of your team. The door gets knocked down.

>"Boss? Boss!?"
>"Ah hell, he's dead."
>"Where's Jones?! He was in here, right!?"

Whiskey then realizes he still holds the man's corpse by the neck, and throws it overboard as the question gets asked.

>"That seedy son of a bitch! He killed Scarmaster! Radio it in, we're looking for him."

You hang on top of the roof as you approach your destination. You hear the 3 familiar beeps of an Adjutant's alert.

Delta Phoenix, I have forwarded mission success to the local authorities and they have credited your account. I have received our next three assignments:

Vernon Otis. Assassin of the Javelito cartel. Wanted for the murder of multiple political officials and marshals. Extremely unstable.

Quanah Antinanco : Chief Adviser to Don Javelito, wanted for insurance fraud, blackmail, and conspiracy to tamper with elections.

Don Javelito : Charming leader of the Javelito Cartel. If there is a law on record he has broken it. Consider him to be extremely dangerous.

You ride atop the train until you reach your destination at the compound. They don't have proper sensors to detect you or your squad. It's likely that the train will be on lockdown and most of the security forces will be occupied trying to find your patsy.

Fortunately you're able to drop down and move out of the trainyard and into the building.

Commander, I have several probable locations for your targets.

>Quanah Antinanco: Office and library complex.
>Vernon Otis: Armory complex.
>Don Javelito: Main living quarters.

>>
>>26021325
Vernon, lock the Armory down or set an Irradiation nade.
>>
>>26021273
Quanah Antinanco has no combat experience and is extremely manipulative. She will likely be the least defended.

Vernon Otis is responsible for most combat operations of the cartel. He will have significant training as an assassin, however due to the nature of the organization will not be prepared to engage in a stand up firefight. He will use deceit.

Don Javelito is an ex-Confederacy Goliath operator. He will have basic combat skills.

Guards are posted at entrances to the compounds, and patrol the interior. For the most part the targets will be solitary with the possible exception of Don Javelito.
>>
>>26021289
This mission is already being recorded, Delta Phoenix.
>>
Tactical Notice: The guards are already on alert. Destroying the armory stockpile will not hinder combat effectiveness at this time.

Let's start with Quanah, work our way through Vernon and go to the Don. The don will be checked on the most - being found dead will result in an immediate alarm.
>>
>>26021237

Split up, take out the targets simultaneously, don't raise attention.

November: Abduct Quanah for interrogation.
Whiskey, Charlie: Eliminate Vernon
Delta: Eliminate Don.
>>
>>26021355
Alright then here's my suggested positioning
>1st Target: Vernon Otis
>2nd: Don Javelito
>3rd: Quanah Antinanco
>4th Child

The reason for these choices are pretty easy to explain. Taking care of the assassin helps ensure he doesn't try to take a hostage to save himself, if he doesn't just outright run

Don because, well, he's combat focused. Easier to kill him if he's not in a Goliath.

Quanah because she's the last to take care of

And finally the kid because, in the chaos, why would they focus on guarding a child when there is an assassin to find?

You decide to head for the big target first. Without the head the body will fall, or something to that effect.

The main compound, his house really, is heavily patrolled. That might have meant something to you if any of them could see your team. You scale the walls and enter the overly extravagant house. As expected the guards are few and far between.

You reach the stairs and follow your HUD to his office. sure enough, he's working at one of the desks, writing some sort of paper. He has no idea you're here.

Exiting the house compound proves just as simple. The guards are focused on the train so your team has no problem transversing the grounds. As you reach the door November is able to hack it open in seconds, and your team moves in.

The armory is fairly simple. It's mostly small arms, pistols, rifles, and the occasional CMC. A few explosives litter the tables. A C-10 with a silencer is on one of the work benches, and that's when you notice Otis step into the room.

Otis is an older gentleman, with long, gray hair and rotting teeth. His thin figure reminds you of a skeleton.

He stops. Then sniffs the air. It's almost as though he senses something amiss.

You sprint at the building full speed. If he was right the child hostage is likely on that transport.

>"Delta Phoenix to Hercules Actual. Dispatch Valkyrie to my coordinates and await further instructions."

You climb the side of the building, one floor at a time, and leave your team behind in the dust. Your anger rises, and you reach the top just as the ship is departing. In a single leap you grab the landing gear and the dropship flies over the compound.

>"Oi, Delta. Tha' wee laddie an' our target are on that ship. Yer own yer own though lass. We lot'll make our own extraction."

You shuffle along to the read entry door and grab hold. The wrist-mounted computer connects to the door and hacks it open.

>"You have learned some new tricks, mi'jo."

The old woman stands.

>"Then there is something you must know. This boy is as much my blood as he is Enrique's. And I will not see him left alone to that Bandito."

You probe her mind as well as the child's. Although Enrique doesn't know it, everything is suddenly related. She is not just Javelito's advisor, she is his mother. The boy, Pedro, lost his mother, Javelito's sister, to corrupt marshals. After she romanced Enrique to learn his weakness, which was used to effectively defeat and enslave him.

>"Don't need to claim bounties in person, already got your reports and you already got paid for the ones you got. Shame Quanha got away though-"

>"Not quite. I need to ask you some questions, Sheriff."

The woman leans back in her seat and shoots you a curious look.

She leans forward, her gauntlets lean heavy on the counter in front of her.

>"Nothin'. Like that."

The entire conversation was just a distraction as you read her mind. The local militia are effectively secret police, drug runners, and extortionists. He used them to monopolize the starports and shipyards, all of which he now owns, some of which were previously owned by the Javelito family, who fought at every turn to keep him from gaining control.

All he is is some random badass gunslinger, which does not imply the skill, will, or experience to handle governing a planet assuming he even agrees.

I also don't see why we need a planet. We have the Daluke, a example of the most powerful battlecruiser in operation. We also have Murric in our debt, a planet that is much better off than this shithole.

So, again, why the hell are we bothering with this corruption shit?
>>
>>26023651
because this shit ass planet has loads of stuff we want, like starports and ships

all of which we get a lot easier if we have friendlies who are loyal to us in charge of it
>>
>>26023545
Clearly this can all be cleared up by making it known that we intend to purchase some nice things from their starports and that if we chose to continue to buy from them they could just ignore the contraband inspection.
>>
>>26023699
>nofun.jpg
>>
>>26023699
Look at it this way. If nothing else, we'll either get money, Starports, or maybe even a gunslinger outta this.

There are a couple of things to gain. Doesn't mean we'll get them all. Doesn't mean we'll get any of them...but that's why we're trying.
>>
>>26023639

Leave the sheriff's office, get to the starport, and ask to see whoever ordered the contraband search.
>>
>>26023701
>>26023735
So to get a better price on schematics, we're going to try and establish a puppet regime? Why don't we just try blackmail or something then?
>>
Thank the sheriff for her time. Tell Solo to cooperate for now but have the marines prepare to repel boarder should we need it.
>>
>>26023754
It's a little late, considering mainly that they think we're onto them now, and don't plan on letting us go, I assume. I'm betting they'll try to plant drugs or something.
>>
>>26023760
Commander, if I may.
>Order Solo to allow boarders.
>Tell marines to repel boarders.

This may be seen as a hostile course of action.
>>
>>26023786
>Tell Marines to repel
We're far better equipped then these backworlders, I assume Adjutant?
>>
>>26023786
>>Order Solo to allow boarders.
well, worked in starwars...
>>
>>26023786

Just stall them until we get there.
>>
>>26023786
Adjutant I forgot

What do we exactly have in the cargo?
>>
What I mean is allow the inspection but have our marines quietly get ready to evict them should worst come to worst and they attempt to pirate our ship./
>>
>>26023793
We are also outnumbered by 8 marines to an entire planetary defense force, Commander.
>>
>>26023545
All we really need is to work out a "deal" with the sheriff. We make sure to drop by every once in awhile to buy from their starports and they knock off the random contraband searches for a regular customer.
>>
Rolled 18

>>26023821
they're not checking for cargo, they're checking for the kid and his grandma
>>
>>26023837
It is only 2% likely that the contraband search is random, Commander.
>>
Unless we want to lose the Hercules and everyone on it, we're going to have to cooperate with this charade. It'll probably end up with us getting an 'offer we cannot refuse' from the governor.

Remember that we don't have the Daluke with us, so we're on our own.
>>
>>26023836
Well we're not going to try and storm the station, are we? Just push them off the ship and take off.
>>
>>26023836
we'll only have them pull guns when they decide to take the kid and the lady away.
>>
This place is known for its starports... any hostile action is going to be met with space ships of unknown quantity... so cooperate for now.
>>
>>26023786

Whatever we do, don't fucking shoot anyone. When we scanned the sheriff's mind, did we pick up what the "contraband" they're looking for is? I mean, the kid and woman aren't on that ship, are they? What else could they be looking for?
>>
Also have Solo hide the lady and the kid in the best smugglers compartment he has on the ship.
>>
Guys!

The 'contraband search' is a bunch of bullshit. All they want is an excuse to arrest us. They'll search the ship, plant something, then 'find' it and try to put us in shackles.

We don't have the kid and grandma on the Hercules, those two are safe aboard a Valkyrie.
>>
>>26023878
The sheriff is not aware of the search at this time.
>>
>>26023906
They are detaining all ships planetside and ordering a search of them, including the Valkyrie.
>>
>>26023906
hence the preperation of the marines.
>>
>>26023909

So it wasn't related to our asking questions about the governor. That means they were planning to fuck us over from the start.
>>
just a heads up, threads currently on page 7, heading for the end of the board, may want to make a new thread soon
>>
>>26023943
((I might just end it here, actually, and have the next one start with you returning to the ship.))
>>
What do you suggest we do then? Fleeing will give them a excuse to try and shoot us down. I think the best bet is to bluff. We don't have the lady you are looking for.
>>
>>26023920
Oh. I do not believe that was adequately explained. Is there anything else we need to know? Like if the Valkyrie is in a position to refuse and fly away? And what the consequences of refusing the search are?
>>
>>26023980
You are on a planet with industrial shipyards, in a spaceport with multiple anti-air installations.

Running is extremely dangerous.
>>
>>26023958
Aw. Happy you've returned all the same Adjutant.
>>
>>26023980
I say we allow the search but only when we are present, then we can deal with it in person better
>>
>>26023988
That doesn't answer my question. When we last saw the Valk it was picking us up in the middle of nowhere. If it's still around there, then it should be able to escape just fine and return to the Daluke. Otherwise if it IS in a place under cover of AA batteries, then we're just going to have to take our lumps.
>>
>>26024020
im assuming we landed at the nearest landing pad at a starport, with the sheriff being nearby
>>
>>26023988

Can November tap into their defense network and deactivate or reprogram the AA? As a last-ditch measure, I don't want to do this until we actually have to.

Also, I thought the Valkyrie landed in the desert. How do they know where it is? Are they searching the dropship we captured as well?
>>
>>26023988
I'm getting the feeling we shouldn't try to topple the government right now. I rather like our ships and men not being filled full of holes.
>>
>"You and your grandson will remain aboard the Daluke until I can validate exactly what Lakas is up to. Land the ship."

>The dropship lands in the desert, several of your marines disembark from the Valkyrie and take them onboard. You board the captured dropship and prepare to rendezvous with your escaped squad.

The Valkyrie should be somewhere on its way to the Daluke by this. We currently have the dropship nearby.
>>
>>26024020
Valkyrie picked your hostages up and went back to the spaceport. You stole a shiny new dropship and headed for the Sheriff's office to investigate this corruption, Commander.

>>26024030
It is possible for him to open a window to AA, but not orbital and ship-based defenses, which are numerous.
>>
>>26024069
Right so this place is waaaay better equipped then I was picturing in my head.

Screw fighting it I guess, and let's just go along with it.
>>
>>26024069
Wonderful.

Alright, NO LUBE BOYS. THEY'RE GOING IN.

Let's cooperate and see how far this goes. In the future, we might want to consider not blatantly being a rogue ghost.
>>
>>26024069

...why did it go back to the spaceport and not the Daluke?
>>
>>26024131
The Daluke is pretty far away to go without an escort. Besides, they probably hailed them and told them to land by order of blah blah blah corrupt government.
>>
>>26024131
It needs fuel before a very long trip.

Kind of like a car.

You know how cars work, right anon?
>>
I'm kinda curious on to what exactly they want us for.

Is it to NOT pay us for the assassinations? If the woman was typical it was a lot of dosh... but seizing the people you hire for jobs isn't exactly good business sense.

The kid and the woman? We didn't tell the government squat about her. Why would they immediately jump to the conclusion we were harboring her after killing her boss and son?

It couldn't because of us questioning the sheriff... we just started. The entire corrupt government would have to be a collective mind to do something like that.
>>
>>26024211
its pretty clear they don't know about Quanha and the kid, it seems like they realise how good we are, and want to strong arm us into working for them, which will not end well for them
>>
>>26024211

Since they planned to stop and search us before the end of the op, I think the most likely conclusion is that they don't want to pay us, or want to blackmail us into doing another mission for free.
>>
>>26024236
>>26024239
definately a possibility.
>>
>>26024196
we need to give every vehicle we have a nuclear reactor to run it

also, glad to see this continuing, thanks for running it Adjutant
>>
((Alright I'm taking off.

I dunno if I'll do a thread tomorrow cuz it's monday and I have to do work stuff.

Remember to upvote the thread in the archives.))
>>
>>26024305
ok, thanks for having us. You will let us know on twitter, won't you?
>>
>>26024305
night, Adjy. thanks for running.
>>
>>26024305
Farewell then Adjutant.
>>
>>26024317
((I'll let you know.))
>>
>>26024356
I don't mind waiting, for the record. The quest runs best when you're into it too
