You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

You hope things won’t change much more. The pact you recently made with an ancient forest spirit and king of one of the Courts of the Fae may have been the right thing to do (both in terms of your conscience and in terms of assuaging his anger at the injuries caused to his daughter), but you’re still keeping an eye open for any unexpected side-effects.

You’re currently enjoying a nice, peaceful moment in the moonlight, having finished spending a few hours sitting on a park bench helping a friend of yours develop and control her burgeoning psychic powers. This is what passes for normal in your life now, you suppose. It’s better than facing down ancient spirits or punching demonically-backed drug dealers, anyway.

It’s dark now, and Jill is getting ready to head home. She may be starting to doubt her mother’s authority, but it seems she’s not yet ready to provoke the beating that will likely ensue if she starts openly breaking curfew or otherwise flouting her mother’s strict rules against “sinful” behaviour.

[]Escort Jill home. It may be getting late for both of you, but it’s better to be safe than sorry, with Jason and his demonic sponsor still out there somewhere.
[]Head home yourself. Jill can look after herself, and if you keep on getting home so late your mother is going to start setting a curfew of her own.

You're awesome.

Jill is quite happy to have an escort, particularly given the school assembly this afternoon, about the missing girl. You inwardly pray that Sally Chambers has just run away from home, or spent the night with a boyfriend, or something that doesn't involve Jason, Isabella, and the strange, tentacled thing Avril described as a 'Corrupter'.

Jill is almost skipping along. At the corner of her street, she turns to you, the bright moonlight lighting up her hair and her smile. "Thank you for a wonderful evening, Chris". Suddenly, she leans forward and gives you a long, warm hug. You hug her back, and give her a small kiss on her forehead. She tenses a little, then relaxes into the hug again, before letting go and hurrying down the street to her house.

You hurry home yourself, but it's getting really dark now. Your mother frowns at you, but hands you a plate of cold dinner without any comment.

Your mother has cleaned your room at some point while you were out. Doesn't look like she's moved anything important. You lie back on the bed and ponder your next move.

[]Focus on Jill. Slowly work her free of her mother. You've started making cracks, but if you push, you might open them wide - or frighten Jill back into obedience.
[]Focus on Isabella. She's the threat here, the one trying to manipulate and control you. You've rattled her, but not defeated her.
[]Focus on Avril. You need to regain her trust. It will be a long, slow process, but it'll be worth it in the end..
>>

Jill is fine already. What we need is to work on Avril, and/or Isabella.

we should get things to the way before. also we need to start feeding again.

also, i think we should talk with our mother a bit sometime. i enjoy playing as fucked up teenage monster but we dont need to be that idiot teen who takes everything out of their mother for no reason. she has been good and understanding so far.

You run things over for a moment in your head, and realise that you should probably talk to your mother now, before things get out of hand. You get up and head downstairs - your mother is in the kitchen, still clearing up after dinner.

"Hi, Mum. Look, I'm sorry I keep coming back late. I know I've been making you worry a bit, but I've just been out with some friends, okay?"

Your mother smiles. "Thank you, dear. I do worry about you a little too much sometimes. It's good to know that you're making more friends, though. You'll have to bring some of them round for dinner some time. If you're going to be out late, do try and call home, all right? Just so I know where you are and that you're safe. The news mentioned that one of the girls from your school is missing... I can't imagine what her parents must be going through."

"Okay, Mum. Love you."

"Love you too, dear."

The next morning, there's another school assembly in place of the morning register. Sally Chambers is still missing. The police are out searching the nearby fields and forest.

You make sure to grab a seat next to Avril in Chemistry. Jill is sitting on her other side, and the two of them are chatting as you sit down. Avril apparently finds fractals intriguing, but doesn't quite understand how the pattern can keep shrinking down infinitely.

Is there anything you want to discuss with her now, or do you want to wait until lunchtime, when you can maybe talk more freely?
>>
>>26010867
just chat and let avril and jill get closer. it is important for our plans that they like each other. we'll talk important things during lunch when we're alone.
>>
>>26010867
Hey would you both mind coming over some time so I can prove to my mother that I have friends?
>>
>>26010867

>>
>>26010923

>>26011125

>>
>>26011042
You make small talk with the girls, adding a few simpler examples of fractals to stop Jill diving straight into trying to plot the Mandelbrot Set on paper, and asking them about the missing girl. They're both a little nervous - Avril mentions that Sally was in her P.E. class, and she hopes that she's all right.

The class goes well enough, with you and Avril nimbly setting up the apparatus for the electrolysis experiment you're doing, and Jill diligently taking notes. There's a couple of moments where one of the other groups test their results by lighting off the gathered hydrogen with a sudden, surprising pop, and your beaker quivers slightly without anyone touching it. You don't think anyone noticed, though.

Avril waves goodbye to Jill and practically drags you outside when lunchtime comes. She sits down on the tables outside, still sitting on top of the table while you lounge on the bench next to it, and beams.

"So I talked to my dad and he tells me there's a couple of, well, odd positions for mortals in the Court. Normally you'd just be, like, a minion or something, mortals in the service of a member of the court don't really count for a rank, but with you being pledged directly to the King, technically speaking you *have* to have a rank, and there's a few things which were implemented way back, mostly so Titania could just grab mortal men and carry them off without her courtiers arguing, but still. So. Congratulations, Ambassador to the Brief."

Wait, what?

"All joking aside, what responsibilities does that come with? What will I have to do, and what or who should I be on the lookout for?"

Ambassador doesn't sound so bad, and it might give us protection from other Fae.

"I don't think I count as mortal any more, do I? I mean, I remember dying."

Avril shrugs. "You're not a Fae, and you don't fall under any of the treaties we have about representatives of other powers or anything. As far as our laws are concerned you're an enhanced mortal, like the druids were."

"So what does an Ambassador do? I'm suddenly reminded of an old saying about great power coming with great responsibility."

She throws her head back and laughs. "Responsibility isn't exactly a watchword of the Fae, I'm afraid. But don't worry, I wouldn't go making you a Knight or something. Remember, this is something created to let a Faerie Queen get away with having her mortal favourites hanging around at court. Your official duties are something like 'bringing a spark of mortal ingenuity to light up our Court' and 'making known the majesty of the Fae through the gracefulness of his life' and so on. Lots of flowery poetic language, no actual powers or responsibilities. And you're technically outside all the normal chains of influence and status and so on. No authority to order anyone else around, but no-one has authority over you either, except the royal family - Dad, me, my mother, my siblings. None of whom are going to care, except me, and you know I wouldn't go doing that to you. "

Avril glances down at her hands, clutching them for a moment. Her voice is suddenly nervous "Uh, one other thing. How're you doing in terms of those... hungers?"

What do you want to say?
>>
>>26011776
come to think of it. how exactly are we doing?
>>
>>26011776

"Okay, that's... that's good. I hope." Avril still looks nervous, but a little less so. You think. "Honestly, I don't know if we'll ever be... where we used to be. I want to, but I don't know if I could manage if it started to bring back... memories. We'll just take it one step at a time, yeah?"

"Yeah. I'd like that."

Avril smiles. "Okay. Thank you, Chris."

She gets up, hopping down off the bench onto the grass, and takes off her socks and shoes. "Just stay there for a moment?"

You watch as she starts to dance barefoot across the grass, slowly at first and then spinning, dancing in wide circles with inhuman grace. The grass seems to bend and sway as she moves over it, sweeping low and then leaping across the grass in wide, loping steps, spinning low to the ground with her arms outstretched and coming up with a pair of daisies clutched lightly between her fingers. She walks over to you and hands you one of the daisies, putting the other in her hair, tucked behind one ear. "A gift for the valiant Ambassador. With the compliments of the Princess of the Court. Come, and dance with me?"

By the time you get to your R.E. lesson, you're tired, and your feet are covered in dirt inside your socks. But you're happy.

Look at it this way: We didn't lose a worthwhile confidante AND gained access to the fae in addition to being protected from the side-effects of being dead.
>>
>>26013018
On that thought, something occurred to me; between us we're like 'the smart one' for our biology project, if we do the project solo then that nets us someadvantages while only marginally maybe affecting the outcome; A; we can control when we see Isabella as she would only need to come around on our say-so, B: if we act like we're stalling whilst really doing it all solo then we may be able to extract gifts or favours from her in return for cooperation, C: and maybe slightly more evily, later on we could drop her in it by telling our bio teacher she bullied us socially into doing it solo.

Is there a troll skin in this game? That'd be kinda neat. Also we could always just tell Isabella to leave us and ours alone on pain of having us beat her court to death with her torn off legs.

You don't have any trouble finding a seat near Masami, since she generally sits away from the other students. She gives a little wave as she sees you. "Hi Chris. Thank you for the party. We should, uh.. hang out? Again, some time."

Mr Miller is reeling off facts on Shinto and Buddhism today. Masami seems nervous, clutching her pendant every so often. She sits quietly, though, taking precise notes.

Is there anything else you want to ask her about?

((Also, does anyone know what the actual procedure for dealing with misarchiving is? I emailed Lord Licore the last time this happened and that one still isn't fixed.))

"So, Masami... what do you think of Shinto and Buddhism? Shinto is one of the main Japanese religions, right?"

"I guess so?" She thinks for a moment, then starts talking in a careful, precise tone, like she's reciting, or quoting. "Shinto is a religion of many weak gods, each with dominion over a tiny slice of the land. There is no unity in their domains and no strength in their gods, and their lands will inevitably be washed away." She blinks, then blushes. "... Um. I mean, I don't really know all that much I know the basic principles, but not the names of the gods or the rituals or anything. The Emperor was supposed to be one of their main gods, I think. I didn't really have this sort of education on other religions at home. Our school was quite small. And the English education system is a little... different. But it's nice. Freeing."

"Did your family not teach you much about other religions, or about Japan in general?"

Masami shakes her head quite vigorously. "Oh, no. The world outside wasn't supposed to be something for people like me to worry about. Not til I was older, anyway. But I was... curious, I guess."

The lesson is going to be over soon. Were you planning on doing something after school?

You pull out your phone and call Avril.

"Hi Avril. So I was thinking... want to go see a movie? Start things off afresh?"

"As long as we actually get to watch some of the movie this time. I still have no idea what that film was about, except that it involved zombies."

"I'll meet you at the cinema, then."

It's the middle of the week, so the cinema is once again fairly sparsely populated.

They're still showing The Shuffling Corpses. You've seen it once before, but you were both a little... distracted then. There's the new Superman film, Guy of Iron. The adaption of A Midsummer Night's Dream (Possibly appropriate. Possibly horribly cheesy.) And... Highlander II? Wow, someone at this cinema has strange taste in films.

[]See The Shuffling Corpses again. Try and actually watch the film this time.
[]Go for Guy of Iron. See if Avril enjoys an action movie.
[]A Midsummer Night's Dream it is. Hopefully she'll find it funny rather than cliche.
[]Highlander II? No-one else is going to watch that. You might as well.

This, it was an out of character move not wanted by the majority of the players. It was pretty much unanimous when the decision first arose. It was >Blinding yourself to the fae NOPE

Notice how the longer the thread goes on the more people start bitching? Stop that, we didn't lose our soul. The deal helped us control our hunger in exchange for a benign place under a queen in the fae court.

You find Avril inside the cinema, loitering near the food & drink stands. "Hi Chris. Did you look at the films?"

"Yeah. You know how you said A Midsummer Night's Dream was one of your favourite fairy tales? Let's go watch the film version."

She grins. "You remembered that? Okay. Let's go for it."

The film starts out fairly slowly - it presents Shakespeare as a struggling actor and scriptwriter with a small company. Then Oberon, King of the Fae, offers him great fame and talent in exchange for two plays, the first of which is A Midsummer Night's Dream. Avril seems torn between laughing at Oberon and applauding Shakespeare as he negotiates a careful contract

As the play starts taking shape the film cuts between the players rehearsing, and the actions of the Fae they're unconsciously mimicking. It's quite good, in a comedic sort of way. Very cutting about Oberon and Titania, though. Avril is still trying not to laugh.

Avril is slowly squirming more and more. "Aah - that's not fa-air, Chris - no, don't *stop*, dammit -" She turns, takes your face in her hands and kisses you deeply. "Oh, dammit... slowly, slowly, one step at a time... this counts as a step, right?" She slides off her seat and onto yours, sitting in your lap. You're kissing her neck now, and she's trying not to moan loud enough to be heard by the people around you. Fortunately there's no-one sitting behind you. They'd certainly notice as you slide your hands up under Avril's shirt, gently stroking her sides and then moving up to cup and stroke her breasts. "Mmm... we really shouldn't be doing this, we'll get ca-ah!-aught. Ahhh, right there... Dammit, Chris." She gives you another deep kiss. "After this. You. Me. Bathroom. Whichever one's empty. Yeah? Now le- oh, fuuuck - let me watch the film." She reluctantly extracts your hands from her bra and shifts back to her seat, a thin coating of sweat on her face. It's hard to tell in the darkness of the cinema, but you think her shirt is probably damp enough with sweat that it's going transparent, too. God bless white school uniforms.

The film is still quite interesting, even if you're not paying 100% attention to it. Avril is smiling when she walks outside - although part of it is definitely a smile of anticipation. "Mm. Okay. Where now?"

"We have a date to finish, don't we? Let's get some dinner. Actually, even better, we can go back to my house - my mother's an excellent cook, and it'll be quicker than waiting around in a fancy restaurant."

Avril's fingers are twitching a bit, but she nods. "Okay, sure. Dinner at your place. No bending over and getting fucked, no matter how horny you made me. Dammit, this is how all our dates are going end, isn't it? You are such a tease." She gives you a long, slow kiss.

Your mother is a little surprised when you come home with a girl, particularly a gorgeous one whose hair is a shock of bright green. She's polite enough, though, and quickly sets an extra place at the table. Avril introduces herself as "a close friend". Fortunately your mother's prepared a roast with a lot of vegetables on the side - Avril quickly assembles a large plate of greens and potatoes, and digs in with an impressive amount of enthusiasm. She's also extremely complimentary of your mother's cooking, which clearly goes over well. Of course, it falls to your little sister Sarah to pipe up with "So do you two kiss and stuff?"

How do you want to deal with your little sister's questioning?

[]Deflect the issue. It's not something you want to be discussing over the dinner table.
[]Admit that you do, indeed, kiss Avril. Try not to be drawn on the issue of "stuff".

guess i'll be going with this one. though how do you deflect such an open and direct question? however you do it, it'll be so obvious you might as well admit it.

Avril is blushing and trying not to laugh. Your mother is putting her open hand across her face and sighing. You, however, decide to respond with a direct attack. "Yes, Sarah. I do 'kiss and stuff' Avril. Do you have something to say about it?"

"But.. but you're a boy. Boys are *icky*!"

Avril is no longer able to hold herself back from laughing. Once she manages to stop, she interjects "Don't worry, Sarah. You'll understand about kissing when you're older. And it doesn't necessarily have to be boys, either."

Sarah's eyes go wide. "Wait, I can kiss girls? That's a much better idea. Girls don't have cooties or anything!"

Your mother is still sighing. Your father has actually broken out into a deep-voiced chuckle, at something that isn't one of his own terrible puns. Avril takes the opportunity to grab the last potato.

Dinner is over quite quickly, your mother now trying desperately to deflect Sarah's barrage of questions about Avril's hair, tastes in music, tastes in films, and apparent lack of taste in boyfriends. Avril is biting her lip and looking at you, but doesn't seem to want to ask your mother herself.

[]"Mum, would it be all right if Avril stayed the night?"
[]Give Avril a kiss, and send her home.
[]Sneak Avril into your room without asking your mother about it

We'd have to destroy that Corruptor first, seeing as how our plans, and continued existence, is an obstacle and curiosity to be vivisected, respectively.

get her to her house. get her hot, tell her to definitely not masturbate tonight, and tomorrow we'll have a great time, to erase all the bad memories.
>>
>>26016774

don't worry all we did while you went on vacation was

>gave up our soul
>gave up our power
>became a slave of the Fae royal family

nothing we can't recover from given a few hundred years
>>
>>26016844
ugh.... alright.

I dont get why people are scared of making deals with Devils or Demons. Its all business, and you have to sign before it applies. Not hard to mend a contract into our favor.

Im reminded of that hilarious Metalocolypse episode, wherein the devil tries to get the band to sign a raw deal for their souls. The band is full retard at absolutely everything they do, except for contract law, so they end up completely turning the tide on the devil

You overestimate your abilities and the Corruptor's willingness to deal in good faith.
>>
>>26016774

What happened was that we decided to avoid a bloody nose by giving in to our anger, which made us go power-crazy. We went full rapemode on Avril, which understandably upset her. So we decided to cripple ourselves in order to regain her trust.

Yeah I don't much like it either. But hey, we're not dead/mindraped yet and we can still grow in power, maybe eventually we can unbind ourselves from Avril.
>>
>>26017002

for a moment of time we actually had leverage over both the Fae and Isabella's crowd.

now we have fucking nothing and our power is under scrutiny of the Fae
>>
>>26017060

>>
>>26017002
pffft, i dont underestimate my abilities. Just chris's.

Even the absolute perfect post, by an intelligent person who has thought three steps ahead, is only one post to be voted on by all of us.

I really dont trust us as a group to make the right decisions anymore. Not anybodys fault, just more people with big hearts here than ambition.

Annoyingly
>>
>>26017060
>for a moment of time we actually had leverage over both the Fae and Isabella's crowd.
What leverage? I don't recall any real leverage that we had, except Avril's ability to help us enforce contracts, which we lost when we lost her trust.

As for Isabella's crowd, there was only the illusion of leverage made by letting Isabella think we had more power than we actually had.
>>
>>26017060
get over it already. fae is not limiting us or anything. they dont give a fuck. i dont like it too, hell i raged and left the quest because of people's stupid decisions, but they did make them, and its now over and done with. move on. we dont have time powers.
>>
>>26017087

I would've preferred to take the hit instead of giving in to our darkest self (is that the technical term?), but I can't help but wonder how hard would it be to heal our wounds, now that we're dead.
>>
>>26017087

"Uh, Mum... it's getting pretty late. And you know how everyone's on edge with Sally Chambers still missing and all... it just wouldn't be safe for Avril to walk home this late at night. She really ought to stay here for the night. Right, Avril?"

"My parents totally wouldn't mind, Mrs Phillips. And it is really late to be wandering around outside."

Your mother raises an eyebrow. "And since we don't have a spare room or an airbed, I presume the plan is for her to share your room, Chris?" She looks at you for a moment, then sighs. "Stay here."

You can hear your mother rummaging around. Then she comes back in and drops something into your hands. It's a small, square foil package. "It's not that I approve, exactly," she says, "but I can see I'm not winning this argument, and I remember what it was like to be a teenager. At least be safe, all right?"

Avril grins. "Chris? Your mum is awesome."

You drag Avril upstairs, kissing her as you go. Once you're actually in your room, she seems a little more nervous. "Just... go slow, okay Chris? I want to give this a try again. Just as long as it goes... better."

You take her in your arms, kiss her slowly, and then gently but firmly place one hand on the top of her head. Avril sinks slowly to her knees, then reaches for your zip. She raises her own hand, lays it on top of yours, and presses your hand down into her hair. You tighten your grip a little, and she smiles. "Slowly doesn't mean I'm not still yours."

Lets do a little preemptive planning? I have a brilliant new idea.

Lets get Jill on our team. Then convince Isabella to help us. We already have Avril. Massami can come after that. Then we buy ourselves a van, a dog, and solve mysterys for the rest of our youth

This brings up an interesting question, actually. I mean, we're dead, and therefore probably can't procreate. On the other hand, Avril is from a court of fertility and growth. We should probably figure out exactly what our chances of becoming zombiedad are.
