As the Panzer IV comes to a stop in Oorai's Senshado hanger, you're already sliding off the side to the ground. "What's got you in such a good mood?" Roy says irritably as you head towards Black Jack. He never was much of a morning person, though.

You are the commander of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and you are high on a huge breakfast, a well-fed Panzer IV crew and the promise of a new toy for Duck Team to play with. "Christmas is coming early year, Roy!" You say, throwing our arms around his shoulders.

Even ten minutes before practice officially starts, the hanger around you is alive with activity- Rabbit Team's Lee has finally been repainted to its natural olive drab, though a large cartoon bunny has been added to the side, holding a pair of wicked knives- that's the sort of attitude you like to see in a tank crew!

The Oorai's girls using the IG tanks area bit of a dream to me.

Not sure if there are any more. I think I found it in a thread on /m/ when they were talking about the Sentai scene in OVA6.

oh? well, thanks none the less for it.

>>
>>25942006
it's only retarded if it doesn't work. besides, in lore, baneblades are classed as "light battle line" tanks. there even bigger monsters out there. Probably known as BOLOS (with out the AI running them) and BOLOS have pritty much the same set up with having turrens everywhere.

"Roy, seen the auto club girls anywhere?" You ask as you scan the hanger. If anyone was going to know whether Glorianna had delivered a tank last night. Your loader seems a bit less chipper than usual. "Up late last night or something?"

He yawns a bit. "You could say that." He says rubbing his eyes. "Some of us actually do homework, you know? Anyway, last I saw them they were still putting some finishing touches on the Lee." He says, jerking over towards the big American medium.

You smile. "Well, let's go have a talk with them, then!" You save, giving a wave to the M3's 75mm gunner and loader as they transport some ammunition to their tank.

A brown haired head pops up from the commander's hatch of the Lee. "You!" She says angrily, an arm appearing to point at you. "What the HELL were you thinking yesterday?!"

You come screeching to a halt almost mid-step. "Wait... What? What did I do?" You say, taken aback by the angry, pointing, fairly tanned girl above you. "I didn't do anything! It wasn't me!" You stutter.

You puts her hands down and, in one fluid motion, pushes herself up out of the turret. "Oh yes you did!" She says angrily, never taking her finger off you. "Do you enjoy making extra work for us? Is it some sort of entertainment?"

"No!" You say, shaking your head vigorously.

"Do you have any kind of idea what sort of structural damage that little popgun on your Pershing does to a tank like the M3?" She shouts up into your face, only a few feet away now. "I missed my entire first period just checking to make sure you didn't torque the poor Lee's superstructure out of line!" She takes her finger away from you to begin counting off her day. "Then, after school, we spend three hours checking the hydraulics and fuel lines to make sure you didn't crack a line just from the shock. And then, only after we made sure that the tank wasn't a complete write-off did we managed to patch the cantalope-sized hole you left in the armor." She points over at the freshly applied plate. "We had to fabricate that from scratch."

You blink.

You look at the mechanic, then over at the Lee, the terrible damage inflicted on it completely erased. "Oh. I had no idea that it was that much work to put it back together..." You really didn't actually- although you'd done repairs on Black Jack before, he generally had thick enough armor that he was only subjected to "simulated" penetrations that amounted to little more than dents or divots in the armor- maybe a damage track or antenna or engine. "There was a reason for it though-" You start.

"You wanna demonstrate how safe they are in that Lee?" She cuts in. "Fire a 37mm at it! Hell, fire the 75mm at it!" She says, her voice building. "But you chose the one gun we've got that can actually put one of my tanks in the scrap heap. You ever pull something like that again with my tanks and you'll be fixing the Pershing yourselves!"

You blink, the tide of anger finally subsiding away from you. "Don't ruin your tanks... Got it." You say, swallowing.

"Yeah. Better remember it, too!" She looks up at you and you finally realise that she's actually a lot shorter than you. "So, what did you want?"

"Ah, well we were expecting a bit of a present from St. Glorianna..." You start. "Probably a big tank-sized crate of hopefully-awesome..." You say, realising that what you were expecting from Glorianna was probably not what you were going to get. "Seen one of those around here?"

The wrench-wench's face darkens in front of you. "You mean the boxes of parts that got dropped off here last night?" She says dangerously. "The one you guys probably expect us to put together in our free time- y'know the free time that isn't already dedicated to the repair and upkeep of the six other tanks on the team?"

"Wait... pieces?" You say. You were expecting a tank- maybe not in the best of condition but at least in one piece.

"Oh yes. Got an engine in one crate, the chasis in another, the gun and turret assembly in a third. Drive train, treads, electrics..." She sighs and looks up. "We started it this morning..."

You look over at Roy really quick and shrug. "You guys need any help with it? Maybe I can-"

The mechanic turns her head and hollars back over her shoulder. "Hey Hoshino. Mr. Pershing here wants to know if he can come help with the Trumpeter!"

Hoshino, even browner than the first mechanic girl, pops up from the Lee's engine compartment, holding a hammer in one hand and screwdriver in the other. She grins down at her friend. "Tell them to get us some drinks and stay out of our way before they screw something else up!"

"Hey! We've kept Black Jack going for-" You start to protest, but the girl in front of you cuts you off again.

"Yeah, yeah. Leave it to the professionals, Gentlement." She says dismissively as she turns to head back to the Lee. "Now, if you're all through- we've got important things to attend to."

"Roy, we need to get Yukari." You say simply. "We're gonna figure out what Glorianna gave us ourselves."

"Do we really need her for it?" He says, a bit hurt- he was the historian of the crew, the guy who knew the historical aspects of the various tanks. "I mean, it's probably just a Crusader or something, can't be too hard to identify, even if it is in pieces." He yawns. "Also, where can we find some coffee or something?"

"Just how late were you up last night?" You ask. "Doesn't matter- I want to get this right and I figure between you and Yukari you'll have just about anything the Brits made covered..." Two brains would be better than one on this...

You guide your loader over towards the Panzer IV. "So, what were you up to so late last night?" You say nonchalantly. "Something's got you wiped out this morning..." You stick your hands in your pocket, looking at him innocently. You knew there was something he wasn't telling you...

"There was just a lot of homework and we went late..." He says, instantly annoyed at the line of questioning. His lack of sleep was his undoing, and he realises what he said almost as soon as he's said it. "Dammit, Russells, just forget about it..." He says, resigned.

You're happy too. You've gotten more than you needed anyway. "Saori, where's Yukari at?"

The Panzer IV's radiowoman looks up from the roadwheel she was checking. "Oh! She's up in the turret!" She bangs on the side of the Panzer and Yukari pops up from the turret.

"Russells!" She says cheerfully. "What do you need?"

And add para-frags for even more fun and profit!

B-25s were probably the best medium bomber of the war. Versatile, easy to fly, respectable range and payload for their size, good survivability, able to bring their crews home, and could take off from a goddamned aircraft carrier (eat that Mossie fans!)

And the terror of Japanese shipping and airfields in the South Pacific.

Anti-shipping mainly. A 75mm will bunch through a transport's hull much better than a 20mm ever would. Also was good for hitting aircraft revetments and bunkers in strafing runs.

"Glorianna sent us a tank!" You say excitedly. "Only problem is that it's not assembled and we have no idea what it is!"

Yukari's eyes widen- there's not much that gets her more excited than a new an interesting tank. "I'll be right down!" She says as she scrambles down off the Panzer IV. "This is so exciting!" She squeels as she hits the ground and salutes you. "Did the auto-club know what it was?"

You frown a bit. "They weren't quite in the mood to discuss it..." You say. "I don't even know whether it was a cruiser or an infantry tank or what..."

"Hmmm" Yukari wonders for a second. "We'll figure it out!"

The crates in question are on the far side of the hanger, the largest ones had already been opened and the tank's chasis was already up on a lift. Yukari wanders around it, inspecting it. Roy is going through the other crates trying to get a clue from them.

There's only 10 to a regiment.
>>
You wander up to the turretless, trackless and still only partially-assembled main hull. "Whatever it is, it's got some decent armor." You say whistling. "Gotta be at least a hundred millimeters frontal..." You test the thickness against your finger. "Just wish it had a bit of slop on it..." It's still nothing you've ever seen before.

"The turret's just as hard, it looks like." Roy says looking at the assembly as it sits on the floor. "Way too much armor for a cruiser..." He says. "But it's not any of the infantry tanks I've ever seen..." He remarks. It's far too big to be a Matilda or Valentine. And the turret is too far forward to be a Churchill varient.

"WOW!" Yukari exclaims, opening the top on another crate. "It's got a Meteor engine!" She says excitedly. "Even with all that armor it can definately move..." She thinks to herself for a second before shaking her head and thinking some more.

You still don't know what the hell you're dealing with here...

No, that would make it the Challenger.

IF it had a 77mm HV, *then* it would e a Comet.

Agreed on the fair play part, but at one point, they'll be set up against either Pravda or the Bund der Deutsche Mädel Schwere Panzerabteilung (Miho's big sis' school), at which point a comet and it's HV 17 pounter would be a blessing. Darjeeling would not throw away her best tank.

"Hmm..." You say, pacing around the hull. "Roy, see the gun anywhere?" This is definately something new- British tanks weren't exactly rare in American tanking circles, perhaps not as common as the ubiquitous M4s and Chaffees, but you'd seen just about every tank fielded by the British army between 1939 and 1945, and this was something completely new.

A few seconds of looking and he replies. "Found it! It's a Seventy-five, I think." A few seconds later. "Yep. Seventy-Five millimeter..." He confirms. "Not a very long one though..."

You happen to catch Yukari's eye as she finally puts everything together. "I think I've got it..." She says excitedly. "I think we might have one of the Excelsiors!"

Roy slaps his forehead. "Duh. Did you check the suspension? We can figure out which one of the prototypes it was!"

"The what?" You say. You've never heard of an Excelsior.

"Excelsior!" Yukari repeats. "It was a British prototype- meant to replace the early-war Churchills. It was supposed to have better armor than other Cruisers, but be more mobile than their other infantry support tanks."

Roy nods, looking around for anything else to confirm the ID. "Was the first inkling the Brits had of the idea for a 'universal tank'- they wouldn't actually put one into production until the Centurion..." He goes opens up a crate. "Found the suspension... Anyway, project got cancelled when they were able to fix most of the problems with the Churchill... Shame, really..."

So, you've got another prototype tank. Tough, mobile, decent enough gun.

Yeah, today is gonna be a good day.
>>
>>25949417
That could end horribly if we hit Kuro before we find the Porche Tiger.

Actually, with the SPershing, the Excelsior and the Tiger(P), we have a solid, if prototype-heavy lineup.
>>

Oh, yes, clearly superior on every point, except perhaps top speed.
>>
>>25949456

>>
>>25949441

Can it defend against a sherman's gun?
>>
>>25949440
Luck of the draw.

Personally I think it would be an interesting deviation from the original storyline.

And maybe I'd like to see one of the unnamed schools in the tournament...
>>
>>25949456

75mm ordance isn't that great a gun, though. It's mainly a anti-infantry ordnance, with rather poor armor penetration due to slow shells. We should swap it out for a 6-pounder (or a 17 pounder, but it would probably be too large) if we get the chance.
>>
>>25949466

Actually, historically the I-Go had a top speed about half that of the Excelsior. (It could hit 16mph to the Excelsior's 26mph.)
>>
>>25949491
>He auto club! You guys can pattern weld right?
>Yeah
>...wait seriously?
>>
>>25949470
100mm was what the Tiger had and it could take the 75mm shells at all but point blank and could still take 76mm shells at more than 500m.
>>

Oh yeah, the Aussies had a tank school too. With the way this universe has been dancing across the show's canon, I wouldn't be surprised if we got to see more Anzio or that French school that got knocked out in the first round of the tournament.
>>
>>25949676
>Sentinels

I know the 17 pounder is probably better, but I'd love it if they had the protoype with the twin 25 pdr guns. Just too see that in action.

Everywhere except the front's upper glacis at 500m, I believe.

>>25949731
Those French tanks are actually pretty good. If anyone is getting knocked out I'd think it'd be Anzio. The Italians were fantastic tankers, but they had shit tanks(comparatively)
>>
>>25949758

I'm probably remembering this wrong, but in the manga and show, Anzio made it pretty far in the tourney. I think they were in the semifinals, but got eliminated by Ooarai.

French tanks are pretty good, just one problem, they're crewed by the French.

Nope, Pravda was the semifinal match. Kurorororororororomine was the final.

>>
>>25949823
>Why the hell is our (Ausfag here) school called the Koala school? Call it the fucking, Kangaroo school? Drop Bear? Wombat? Bunyip?

Because Nips.

Hell, we probably only got a carrier-school in the show on grounds of the Nips thinking "They kicked our shit, they must truly be lords of all forms of warfare."

Which is kinda true, but still.

What kind of military is Australia running when they nuke a tank and then decide to put it back into service?
>>
>>25949974
One that works, apparently. We tend to kick a lot of ass.
>>
>>25949974
>An Australian Army Mk 3 Centurion Type K, Army Registration Number 169041, was involved in a small nuclear test at Emu Field in Australia in 1953 as part of Operation Totem 1. Built as number 39/190 at the Royal Ordnance Factory, Barnbow in 1951 it was assigned the British Army number 06 BA 16 and supplied to the Australian Commonwealth Government under Contract 2843 in 1952.

>It was placed less than 500 yards (460 m) from the 9.1kt blast with its turret facing the epicentre, left with the engine running and a full ammunition load. Examination after detonation found it had been pushed away from the blast point by about 5 feet (1.5 m), pushed slightly left and that its engine had stopped working, only because it had run out of fuel. Antennae were missing, lights and periscopes were heavily sandblasted, the cloth mantlet cover was incinerated, and the armoured side plates had been blown off and carried up to 200 yards (180 m) from the tank. Remarkably, though, the tank could still be driven from the site. Had it been manned, the crew would probably have been killed by the shock wave.

>169041, subsequently nicknamed The Atomic Tank, was later used in the Vietnam War. In May 1969, during firefight 169041 (call sign 24C) was hit by an Rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). The crew of the turret were all wounded by shrapnel as the RPG entered the lower left side of the fighting compartment, travelled diagonally across the floor and lodged in the rear right corner. Trooper Carter was evacuated while the others remained on duty and the tank remained battleworthy.

>The Atomic Tank is now located at Robertson Barracks in Palmerston, Northern Territory. Although other tanks were subjected to nuclear tests, 169041 is the only tank known to have withstood atomic tests and subsequently gone on for another 23 years of service, including 15 months on operational deployment in a war zone.

I've heard that during the campaign for north africa, ANZAC troops were notorious for mounting crazy shit on bren carriers, like a 25 pdr.
>>
>>25950599

Nah, the BREN would tow the heavy pieces around, but the best you could mount on it was a 2-pounder or a light mortar. The recoil from a 25-pounder would smash it to pieces.

They did mount the 25 pounder on a Valentine chassis (Bishop SPG) and Grant/Lee chassis (Sexton SPG)
>>
>>25950694
we also put 2 25lbr's side by side in a Sentinel AC IV to test the turrets mount by firing both guns simultaneously
>>
>>25950599

It was a 6 pounder they used on the UC.

The New Zealanders on one occasion nicked an 88 from the Germans, and promptly used it for the rest of the campaign, occasionally towing it around the base, and launching raids for more ammo.
