Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25801190/

This is Yellowman Quest, where you play mysterious voices in the head of a scout commander named Scott Yellowman that advise him. Yellowman, along with a trio of tiny aliens, a newman paladin, and a New Vegas bouncer, are caught up in an interdimensional death race for a grand prize of a wish.

Currently, Yellowman and company have just arrived in Central City, the capital of Amestris. Their goal is to find a way to reach the Gate of Truth and pass through in order to reach the next stage. Being that none of them are alchemists, this is problematic.

"OK, so we're in a dark alley, it's winter, and we need to find an alchemist," Charlie recites, checking the ammunition in his looted pulse rifle. "If there's a bar or something, I could try to schmooze it up and see what information we could gain."

"Might be something, but I have a feeling a bar isn't going to cut it for information gathering on using forbidden rituals to access an otherworldly gate," Yellowman says, leaning against a building. "If we knew when in the timeline we were, we'd be better off."

"Well that's something Charlie could find out at a bar, right?" Elyse asks, blinking. "Oh! It's winter... Was it winter anytime in the timeline? I can't remember."

"Hey! Hey Commander! Hey!" Pot says, excitedly, hopping up and down on his hover-disc. "I just had a great idea! If you call us chimera that you own, you won't have to hide us!"

"But what about explaining your flying discs?" Elyse asks. Pot stops hopping.

"...Zarg it to frumph!" the fungal tube exclaims, slumping down to sulk.
>>
>>25919400
Instead of flying around, FFP could simply stay landed on top of the Luggage. The Luggage itself would be enough to call it an Intelligent Chimaera.
>>
>>25919400
I think the first thing we should do is go around, and find a pawn shop. We could pawn off some of the gold and silver coins for local clothing and cash, which would be essential to blending in.

Then Charlie and Scott could go to a bar and try to get some information to see when we are in the series.
>>
>>25919512
"Good idea!" Fat says, the three aliens landing on top of the trained mimic.

Your motley group makes it ways out of the dark alley and searches around until you find a pawn shop, attempting to remain as inconspicuous as possible.

It doesn't work.

Though the streets are mostly deserted at this time of night, the few passers-by visibly gawk at your passing, many stopping whatever they were doing to stare.

Finally, you come to a small stone building with a sign outside that reads "Jug's Pawn."

It's closed, as have been most of the stores you have passed.
>>
>>25920031
>closed
Argh! Scott, check the business hours listed, if any.

Also, if there's still any passerby still around, ask one of them what time it is, and if there's someplace we can stay for the night. We'll just have to see if a local will take a silver coin instead of bills.

We should probably come up with a cover story, such as us being from a nation beyond Creta or Aerugo.
We could just say you're from America, Scott, and the story might work.
>>
>>25920191
"Open from 6 AM to 8 PM," Scott reads.

"HEY YOU!" Charlie shouts at man in a greatcoat who looks like he's trying to ignore the group. "WHAT TIME IS IT?!"

"F-f-five AM!" the man hastily responds before walking away quite swiftly.

"We're not far from dawn, then," Elyse notes.
>>
>>25920304
Huh, only an hour until the place opens.

Hey, you guys are probably hungry. Scott, take out the cloaks you got from the Oglaf world, and put them on. This is a world that knows guns, and we're in a country that's pretty close to Nazi Germany (but without the Jews because those untermensch Ishvalans have been mostly exterminated already), so you should hide your rifles.
Might be also good to take off your helmets for now. Elyse, you should let your hair down to disguise your ears.

The policeman disguise you've got might work to make you a little less conspicuous.

Since we've got an hour, let's see if we can find a diner that's open early for the morning shift. This is a decently industrialized nation, so there should be one around.
>>
>>25920430
"Elyse, take off the helmet and let your hair down, try to fluff it out a bit so your ears... uh..." Scott begins to instruct as Elyse does as told. It becomes obviously fairly fast that hair isn't going to do it, the newman's ears being long enough to poke though her hair no matter how it was arranged.

"Oh well," Scott shrugs. "Cloaks on, helmets off, and let's try to find a place for breakfast."

>>25920617
Oh god, we're going to fail so horribly.
>>
>>25920617
Remember to ask if a few silver coins is acceptable before ordering; we don't have cash yet.
>>
>>25920617

It's probably going to be a bit difficult at this time of the day, but try not to get any really greasy/fatty fare, if you can afford it. It can make you real sluggish if you eat too much fatty bacon or sausage.
>>
>>25920713
"Thanks, moooom," Scott says, rolling his eyes.

"You know, you keep talking to yourself, I'm going to start wondering about you," Charlie remarks.

"Never you mind," Scott replies as the group walks through the streets. "Over there... That a diner?"

On a street corner is a tiny building, almost a stand, with a counter with stools. A sign declaring it to be "Quick Eats" hangs above it, roughly painted onto an oak plank. Despite the rough looking nature of the establishment, the distinct smell of frying bacon and sizzling eggs wafts from over the counter. As the group nears it, they see a fat man tending a small kitchen area directly behind the counter.

"A real meal..." Elyse sighs with anticipation. "It seems like months since I've had one..."

"Hey, cook!" Scott calls as the group closes the distance and takes seats. The cook turns and promptly does a double take at everyone, cloaks not really doing a hot job as disguises up close. "I'm short on cash, will you take pure silver coins?"

"What?" the cook asks, confused before Yellowman dumps the nine silver coins he has on the counter. The cook frowns. "Your spare change might get you an egg or two... huh. I've never seen coins like these..."
>>
>>25920929
Try to bluff him a bit, Scott.
"Yeah, they're from out past Aerugo. Not sure what the real exchange rate is to Cenz, but it's pure silver, so it should be worth more than about 1000 Cenz, easy."

1 Cenz is equal to 1 Yen, which is about 1 cent.
>>
>>25921013
"How do I know it's pure silver?" the cook asks.
>>
>>25921071
Got a sulfur match? When combined with burning sulfur, pure silver gains a black mark that combined alloys and other metals such as Nickles don't. This doesn't hurt the coin either, and can be cleaned off with Vinegar.
>>
>>25921071
"Well, you could test it one of three ways; bounce the coins against each other and listen for the higher tone, burn some mustard on the coin to see if it develops silver sulfide, or use a pair of matches and burn one match against a coin with the other to develop silver sulfide."

Come to think of it, instead of just a pawn shop, a jeweler might be a better option to offload these coins; they'll be able to tell the purity better, and give us a better price.
>>
>>25921214
>>25921241
"Huh.... you sound like one of them alchemists..." the cook murmurs, rummaging around and producing a match. When he applies it to the silver coin and the predictable result is obtained, he hastily sweeps the nine coins away into a pouch on his apron. "Right then! The house special! Times three! Pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and fresh orange juice!"

"If we eat too much, we-HURK!"

Scott is cut off as Charlie and Elyse cover his mouth with their hands in unison.

"I am HUNGRY!" Elyse hisses.

"I'm sick of raw bear meat and trail rations!" Charlie mutters. "Just give us this!"

"...it'll be good for morale," Scott finishes lamely as the cook goes to work.

So. . . Chef. I've been away for quite a while.

What's the recent news? I heard rumors of a library burning down.
>>
>>25921350
"So hey, what's happening around in Central nowadays. As you can tell, I've been out for a while. Haven't been here since, oh, that big military exhibition match between the Flame Alchemist and the Full Metal Alchemist, back in 1913.
>>
>>25921536
Wait, that happened in East City. Make sure that we say "that big military exhibition match in East City".
>>
>>25921566
I agree. If we are to ask any questions, I'd rather keep it vague just in case it hasn't happened yet, regardless of how unlikely that case is.
>>
>>25921536
>>25921566
Also, take out the date.
The dates are different between the 2003 and 2009 FMA series; we want to be vague because we don't have confirmation of which series we're in.

"So hey, what's been happening around Central nowadays? As you can tell, I've been out of Amestris for a while. Haven't been through Central since, oh, a little before that big military exhibition they had in East City."

This sound agreeable to everyone?
>>

good for me.
>>
>>25921637
"You've been away for quite some time then," the cook says, mixing some batter. "Probably for the best. Central Command went and conducted an experiment that had everyone collapse all at once! We had a bit of a coup when Mustang and Armstrong went and heh... relieved them of command. Bradley's dead too, though what exactly happened there is still under investigation. Not a time to be a stranger in this city, especially with that weird get up. You're liable to get investigated by the police."
>>
>>25922092
>We had a bit of a coup when Mustang and Armstrong went and heh... relieved them of command
Wait...that's after episode 51 of the 2003 anime.

We might not be in any of the anime series or the manga. This could be the first FMA movie, Conqueror of Shamballa.

"Yeah, I know about the clothes. We were about to go across the street to the pawnshop for something less foreign. You know of a jeweller's we could go to? Figure a jeweller could give us a better price on my old ma's earrings than a pawnshop."
>>
>>25922092
Oh, how long ago did that happen? Couple months?
>>
>>25922368
"Sure do. Try Emil's on Fifth," the cook says, pouring the batter into a pan.

>>25922369
"Last month, truth be told. City's still in a bit of a state over it," the cook replies.
>>
>>25922092
>Central Command went and conducted an experiment that had everyone collapse all at once
I don't remember this happening in the 2003 anime, but I think it happens in the 2009 anime and the manga, as part of the Nationwide Transmutation Circle.
>>
>>25922571
"Mustang...Mustang...Oh, NOW I remember him! Isn't he the Flame Alchemist? And Armstrong, the Strong Arm Alchemist?
"Wait...I had heard that there was third State Alchemist with them...the Full Metal Alchemist? What happened to him?"

All three were somewhat famous, so asking about them shouldn't be too weird.
>>
>>25922711
"What? No, his sister, the Major-General," the cook says, flipping a pancake up into the air. "Though I'm pretty sure Strong Arm was involved too. Not sure what happened to Full Metal."
>>
>>25922711
If Armstrong's sister is around, this has to be either the 2009 anime or manga.

Damn, and I was hoping we'd just need to go to the ruins and open the gate to leave.

After a few more minutes, the cook passes out plates filled with pancakes, bacon, and sausage.

"Eggs will be up in a minute," he says, turning back to the kitchen.

Charlie begins eating like a starving man, shoveling the food into his mouth and loudly chewing. In stark contrast, Elyse slowly chews each bite, an expression of supreme contentment on her face. Yellowman sighs and begins to eat quietly and quickly.

Finally YMQ is up to speed with /tg/'s quests!
>>
>>25922889
>>25923177
We should just make sure of directions to the Jeweler's place, Emil's on Fifth.

Also, if this is the 2009 anime or the manga, then, if I remember right, the series is already over.
The opening of the Gates happened already, and they've been closed, and Ed has lost his alchemy powers.

And how will we get them to open the Gate without sacrificing a life?
>>
>>25923549

Well, that's just one way to reach the gate, right?

Either we need to find a loyal yet morally bankrupt alchemist to do the stuff for us, or we need to find a way to do the same thing, but with divine magic. Elyse may not be powerful enough to call upon divine favor to open up doors between dimensions, but perhaps studying up on how alchemy works and trying to fill in the gaps using divine magic could work. That's a pretty long-term solution, however.
>>
>>25923620
>That's a pretty long-term solution, however.
One we don't have time for.
Or at least, not too much time.
There are the other racers to consider; though since we know where we are in the timeline is after all of the ready-made transmutation circles have already been expended, and the only ones who could possibly do them again are likely still here in Central (Ed and Al haven't left for Resembool yet), we could have a bit of time on our side as the other racers search for a physical portal that doesn't exist.
>>
>>25923549
Scott doublechecks the directions as Charlie finishes his plate and leans back with a loud belch. Elyse has only managed to finish the bacon, while Scott is almost done.

"I'm stuffed," Charlie sighs. "Can't eat another bite."

"Eggs are done," the cook says, scooping out scrambled eggs into three bowls and pushing them forward.

"Nevermind what I said earlier," Charlie says as he begins to dig in yet again.
>>
>>25923699
>>25923620
Wait, how much about this anime do the other Racers actually know?
Charlie wasn't Meta-Aware, and neither was Six-Slash Sam. But the Ghost we met back in the last world seemed to be somewhat Meta-Aware, and Conti definitely is. There's still Radical Ed and that Star Wars bounty hunter that may not be Meta-Aware.
But that Spectre that the Ghost warned us about might be Meta-Aware.

We might not have as much time as we think we do.
>>
>>25923745
Scott, how far away is this Jeweler's, and when will it open?
We might be best served exchanging just 1 or 2 Gold coins at the pawnshop to get some clothes that won't stick out, and then exchanging 20 Gold coins at the Jeweler's for some Cenz.
>>
>>25923906
"Opens at 8, and a good eighteeen minutes away, I'd say," Scott mentally replies.

The man called "Jug" at the pawnshop rips you off. Despite Yellowman's repeated and many arguments, Jug insists that the clothes are going to cost a full five gold coins. "That's the best I can do," he says with a shrug as Scott lays down the money with much grumbling.

>98
Things go much, much better at the jeweler's, though. The jeweler offers an exchange rate of 10,000 Cenz for each coin. You must decide how many coins to exchange. In addition, through the store window, Scott manages to see a patrol of black-coated military police searching for something or someone along the street.

And now I'm off. See you tomorrow!
>>
>>25924655
>the pawnshop rips you off.
Quite Honestly, I'd be much more surprised if he had gotten a fair deal at the pawnshop.
>>
>>25924655
We have 37 gold coins and 7 coppers.
I think we should exchange for at least 20 gold coins. That'll leave us with 17 gold coins in case we either need more cash or there's another world after this and we need to use the gold.

Also, for the clothes, I hope we got a hat that can hid Elyse's ears, and least got some suits and greatcoats for Scott and Charlie.
We should also hide our armor and guns in the Luggage. We can keep the pistols, though, and maybe cover Elyse's photon sword.

And we definitely should wait until the patrol has gone past us before going out there.

The FMA Canon and Amestris have firearms, and shotguns are one of them.
Should we visit a gun store after this to load up on shotgun shells and maybe some more rifle bullets?

Or, since Central City seems to be on alert, perhaps we should wait until where we're out in the country, and purchases of shotgun shells for game hunting makes more sense and would raise less suspicions?
>>
So, any ideas on getting to the Gate?
Should we get in contact with Armstrong or the Elrics for help?

Wait, why are we assuming that the Gate has to be created? Isn't it more likely that the Race Organizers have already set up a Gate transmutation circle in the remains of where Father and Edward had their last battle? The Announcer did say that we wouldn't have to leave the city to find it.

It's easy enough to wait in the shop before leaving to wait for the police to pass, but you still need a destination.

Guys, I have an idea on where the Gate may be set up. There's a few points where the Gate has been opened up, and most of them are in the main administrative building in Central (the one in the center of the city that all the main roads feed into.)

It's gonna be risky as all hell, but perhaps we should wander by the place and see if the cards react, and if so how strongly. If we don't get any reactions then we can look elsewhere.

The three places to think of in/around the building are the final battle location in the 2009 anime, Father's laboratory/lair down in the guts of the building, and where that one Alchemist and Pride forced open a Gate for Mustang. Or we could do a simple circuit of the city checking for pulses?

The sun is rising in the sky after all the sales are finalized and disguises in place. The once-deserted streets are now flowing freely with people going about their everyday lives, though there seems to be a high police presence. Patrols are common, soldiers and police wary.

The team is only halfway to central before an explosion booms in the distant on the other side of the city.

A cautious murmuring begins to sweep through the crowds, one that rises in volume as a second and third explosion join the first two.
>>
>>25940378
Well, looks like it's "Get the fuck outta here" o' clock! Is there anything distinctive about the explosions?

Also, watch out for snipers. Might wanna start edging closer to the side of a building as you move to help deter sudden sniper action.

Might be the bounty hunter, or someone else with bombs... Or Mustang frying someone. He can cause explosions.

Scott stares intently into the window, gazing at reflection after reflection as the crowd moves around behind him. So caught up in trying to pick a suspicious figure out from the uneasy masses of people behind him, he totally forgets to check the FRONT.

A massive man spins from an alley to Scott's left, a blur of red with his fists stretched outward as he comes to a stop a few feet in front of Charlie and strikes a pose. Flexing muscle on muscle, scars cover almost every inch of the huge man's body, with a beard and mohawk the only hair on his head.

"Bodies of IRON!" the man booms, flexing again as another man bounds from the shadows. This one is dressed in a garish yellow jumpsuit that barely contains his immense rolls of fat, with a long topknot reaching down to his waist.

"I am OVERFLOWING with charisma!" the fat man declares, taking up a martial arts stance next to the first.

"SETTING HEARTS ABLAZE!" the two roar in unison, as they switch poses. "THE! SPAAAACE CYCLONES!" they shout, putting emphasis on every word as they change poses at least five more times.

"Z-Zangief and Rufus!" Scott shouts, scrambling back to put a little distance between them.

"No time for drink! But...where is this flexy-man?!" Zangeif bellows. "My card pulses and my fists ache for fight, but you DO seem tiny. Tell me where challenge is!"

"Yeah!" Rufus puts in. "And tell us everything you know about that gate!"

"The man you seek is Alex Louis Armstrong, known as the Strong Arm Alchemist. The soldiers around here may know where he is now.
"The Gate is Alchemical, so you'll have to find an Alchemist to create it."
If we get them chasing down State Alchemists, we might be able to use them as a distraction so that security around the ruins goes down.
>>

Scott, best pokerface, please. For the love of Desna, best pokerface. How about the following, guys?

"You see those guys over there in the uniforms? The blue or black ones running around? Go over to them and ask for a man named Alexander Louise Armstrong.. And yes, he lives up to his last name.

As for the Gate? All we know is it's in the city.. Probably in the direction of those explosions? We were thinking about going the long way around to let the situation sort itself out before we stuck our noses in.. You know, let the fighters still there rest up and get ready for another go if need be."

"Let's get the HELL out of here," Scott whispers to Charlie, Elyse, and Fat Fot Pot as the group jogs away, leaving Zangief and Rufus to bellow at a very confused and frightened man in uniform.

It's a long walk before the group begins to close in on Central Command, the imposing edifice just beyond the large moat that surrounds it.

"Jefferson Davis and my Aunt Mavis," Charlie exclaims. "That fortress puts the Legion's Hill to shame."

"It looks prepared against any sort of frontal attack," Elyse notes. "But I'm not getting anything on my card."

"Me neither," Scott says."Maybe we should..."

"Hey! What are you doing?" someone shouts at the team. Scott turns to see a trio of black-clad soldiers with rifles approaching. Said rifles are still slung over their shoulders, however.

Right, but the story we give is that we were originally sent out into Xing months ago, before Fullmetal lost his alchemy.

Not a word, and be sure that the casual look we give her as we say it lets her know to play along without letting the guards on to it.

As everyone dashes for the safety of a nearby alley, bullets ricochet all around them, several slamming into Elyse, Charlie, and Scott. Scott, is the alley a dead-end? If not, pull out a pulse rifle and pump a grenade or two into the sides of the buildings of the alley's mouth you entered and try to build up some rubble to slow pursuit.

Elyse's Spells: 8/9

Elyse summons a shimmering wall of light that forms itself into a perfect replica of a bricked up wall.

"I did it!" she shouts, excitedly. "I did it!!!"

The illusion flickers and vanishes just in time for the three soldiers to come charging through, firing their weapons.

"I DIDN'T do it!" Elyse wails, Scott grabbing her by the arm and hauling her away as Charlie manages to get the manhole cover open enough for everyone to jump down through.

"We'll have to lose them in the sewers!" Scott shouts.

The unfortunate team clambers down a steel rung ladder and into a filth encrusted stone smell-o-rama. The ladder ends at a T junction, with three tunnels extending in different directions, each with a line of rushing water and filth rolling down the middle.

Each equally smells horrible.

"Well it could've been worse. We could've... guys?" Scott turns to notice Elyse and Charlie both leaning heavily against the wall, several gunshot wounds freely leaking blood into the murky 'water' below.

"Shit, shit SHIT! Come on guys, this isn't the time!" Scott says, as approaching footsteps and the sound of someone slowing descending the ladder echoes off the stone walls. A panicked wail is heard as a soldier falls down from the manhole entrance, apparently having slipped off of the ladder. With reflexes that would make a cat proud, Scott bounds to his side and delivers a stunning knockout punch. The soldier goes still.

"I know... I know... Musta... Musta hit something nasty," Charlie wheezes. "Which... which way... Chief?"

>Charlie takes 2 Wounds.

A is to our right, B in front of us, and C to our left.

I say we head down that . That way we can keep our weapon hands free just in case. Also, as we go let's break out three of those tactical flashlights from AvP world. Use them minimally, and not aimed back at the manhole cover as we move. Take any bend we come to and let's come up with another plan.

Also, be sure not to leave any marks on the walls or ground. They might be able to track us if we do.

Use of potions is a good idea as we go. Charlie and Elyse are hurting bad, and I wanna save the Sap.

It's a harrowing, panicked chase through smelling corridors and nauseating halls, but eventually Scott and the others manage to shake their pursuers, leaving them to lick their wounds in relative peace as stamping feet pass the tunnel they've hidden in.

Fat Fot Pot empties all of his sap onto Elyse, healing most of her wounds, and leaving her to burn all of her Techniques to heal everyone back to full health.
>Sap and Techs expended, all wounds healed.

"That... was too close," Charlie wheezes.

"My armor can shield me from plasma, rail-shot, vibroblades, and even cannon-shot..." Elyse murmurs, a hand going to her neck where the bullet had struck her. "...but a lowly bullet can still do so much if it hits just the right spot. It's humbling."

"Humility's a virtue, ain't it?" Scott sighs. "Goddamn that was a kettle of shit. All right, we need to figure out what we're doing now."

Elyse sings a light chant in a language Yellowman can't understand, and a radiant oval of light appears before the group. It shimmers there for a moment... before the oval loses its radiance and turns dark, the opaque light fading to be replaced by a terrible unblinking eye.

"Okaaaay, that's probably bad," Charlie remarks.

"Aw shit," Scott says.

A number of black rubbery tendrils tipped with tiny hands begin to reach out from the borders of the eye.

"STOP THE SPELL STOP THE SPELL STOP THE SPELL!" Scott screams, waving his arms at Elyse.

"I'm trying! I'm trying!!!" Elyse squeals, weaving her fingers in and our of complex patterns before declaring a single word of power. The eye snaps shut and the arm-tendrils fade away.

That... Was Truth.

Basically, it's the..... 'thing' that lives in the Gate we're trying to get to. Hopefully, we don't have to open it up to get through once we find it. It basically controls all knowledge int his world, and is on pretty much all levels responsible for the power of Alchemy in this world.

So we're probably on the watchlist it's got, now... Elyse, we're gonna have to be REALLY careful about more divination on this world. Seems it's close enough to Truth to attract it's attention.
>>
>>25946652
>>25946570

Ok, next plan. We're in the sewers, lets try to get to the bar owned by Madame Christmas. Talk with her and see if we can talk with Mustang. Explain everything, and hope she doesn't try to rat us out to the wrong people.

Elyse, it may or may not be a whorehouse. All we know is that it's a spy center.

"Elyse you are probably never going to set foot on their world again. I think your reputation is safe," Scott says with a sigh.

"I guess that's right..." Elyse says with a frown.

"I'd just like to say that my plan from the BEGINING was to get me to a bar?" Charlie ventures, raising a hand.

"Yeah, yeah, you're a strategic genius, Chuck," Scott says with a sigh. "I guess the first step is to get out of these sewers. Then find someone who knows where the bar is."

"I recommend an additional step!" Elyse says, raising her hand. "No one's going to want to talk to us if we smell like sewer!"

"Yeah, I guess getting a little cleaned up wouldn't be such a bad idea," Scott nods. "We'll find a hose or something."

>And stopping there for the night. Erratic updates tomorrow if this thread is still up, otherwise next session Tuesday as always.
>>
>>25947178
Uh, not to throw a wrench in the plan or all, but I wanted to point out:
>In preparation for the Promised Day, Roy receives a final piece of intelligence from Madame Christmas confirming the identity of Selim Bradley. The two then retreat below the bar and blow it up as a diversion to allow Roy to go undercover. Madame Christmas then heads east to Xing to flee the darkness of the Promised Day, meeting up with the girls from the bar when she arrives.
>>
>>25947244
So there's a chance she hadn't come back. At least we'll find out if the place is still watched by Roy's team.
>>
>>25947310
"But the bar is BLOWN UP!" Scott yells, swearing. "It's been, what, a month? There's no way it's been rebuilt in that time is there? I can't believe I forgot about that..."
>>
>>25948170
I hate it when I try and fail. Only one thing to do. POST MORE BAD IDEAS!

Check into hospital with ears claiming that it's the result of an alchemical backlash. When inside, go to Mustang's ward that he's almost certainly gone from.

Head to original bombing site and investigate to determine if other racers, and which way they went.

Take Elyse "Hostage" and demand to see Mustang.

Drop rumors that a man is looking for volunteers to help with the final process of creating a philosopher's stone, that should attract Ed and Al because they'll be desperate to prevent the volunteers from losing their lives. The reason why this won't work is that they're in Resembool. Also, we completely forgot that Ed can't into alchemy anymore.

Impugn the Armstrong Family HONOR by claiming that Olivier has accepted our hand in marriage.

Go to the area that's off limits near Central HQ and just stand outside the forbidden area. Just stand there. Waiting for the guards to get twitchy.

And that's all my bad ideas. Anyone else?
>>
>>25948170
Going to the bar is a bust.

First, We need Elyse to see if she can cast a glamour spell that can change her appearance and hide her ears. It would be prudent to change Charlie, Scott, and the Luggage as well. We've been seen, chased, and our description likely broadcast to all military and police patrols.
>>
>>25924481
Since no one has spoken against this, and it has a second, this levelup will now be entered onto the stat sheet.

MetaOP, for Elyse's "Practice Makes Perfect", should her spelltype tracking start from the beginning of this world?
If so, then we have 1 Illusion and 1 Divination/Scrying.
>>
>>25947178
Well, going to a bar to ask about the Gate is a bad idea too, since it's prohibited knowledge and the military will be on the lookout for anyone trying to get the knowledge that nearly killed the entire nation.

If Central Command was not the location of the Gate, then it may be somewhere else in the sewers.

Elyse goes through her usual casting rigamarole, and when he finishes, a cascade of multicolored sparks showers down on everyone. When it's finished, Elyse's ears look normal, and everyone is dressed in impeccably cleaned and pressed uniforms of the State Military. Yes, I have a better idea.

"Does he do this often?" Elyse asks, herself and Charlie staring at Yellowman, who for the last ten minutes had been sort of staring forward, slack jawed.

"Yeah... usually just before he comes up with a plan or major decision," Charlie admits, poking him with a finger. "Creepy, ain't it?"

"BWARGHABLE!" Yellowman shouts, snapping out of his trance. He blinks once then looks to Elyse and Charlie. "What are you two doing? We've got to find a bar! One that isn't blown up!"

"YES!" Charlie exclaims, pumping a fist. "Superb!"

Between the new disguises and Yellowman's increasing skill at fast-talk, the group is able to exit the sewers and locate a bar without raising suspicion.

The bar in question is a small, but well-kept establishment called "The Alechemy Lounge". A polished cherrywood bar stocked with many liquors dominates a full quarter of the interior, while tables and booths are scattered around the rest. A few people, soldiers and civilians alike mill around the inside. The barkeep, a stocky older man polishing a glass nods at Yellowman and company as they enter. Charlie immediately takes the lead, walking forward.

"Barkeep! Me and my pals won it big at a friendly game of cards with some off-duty chums of ours. How about a round of the house special, eh?" Charlie says, pulling out a wad of Cenz bills.

The barkeep doesn't say anything, but nods and begins to fill a few mugs with a frothy dark ale.

"We should figure out what to ask now," Elyse whispers to Scott.

"So what's the news around town? We've been in Aurego for the last couple of months, so we're out of the loop on gossip except for that huge fainting spell everyone had."
>>
>>25961649
>We've been in Aurego for the last couple of months
Actually, not good if we're in State Military uniforms. Best would be to say we were either in East City or stationed out West.
Aurego is another country, one that Amestris has been on-and-off at war with for a long time.
>>
>>25961784
Whoops, for some reason I got it confused with the city where Cornello was. It's not even remotely similarly spelled, how did I do that?

Let's go with an area that hasn't had much excitement recently. I don't recall the south doing anything. Perhaps Rush Valley?
>>
>>25961895
New Optain is a good candidate, since nothing is supposed to happen there.
West City and South City both have frequent combat and battles according to their backgrounds, and may not be a good option.
>>
>>25961986
And since pretty much everywhere on the way to the west and south have a military station, there should be plausible deniability.

I just checked the wiki, the towns under the command of the man (and I use the word "Man" loosely in this situation) who invaded Reole with the Amestrian military and allowed Rose to get raped due to his continued "support" in the area. It's only in the first anime, but nearly everyone else in the first exists, so why not him? Just mention that he was a bastard if asked, and not talk about him anymore.
>>
>>25962097
In the manga and 2009 anime, Rose doesn't get raped, and the bloodshed in Reole was instigated by troops from Central, not New Optain.
>>
>>25962219
That doesn't prevent a man like that from being a bastard. And I already mentioned that it only happened then, I'm just using the 2003 anime as support for there being a military base there that we can claim to be from.
>>
>>25962280
>I'm just using the 2003 anime as support for there being a military base there that we can claim to be from.
But we've already determined that this is the manga/2009 anime Canon; I don't understand why you would use information from the 2003 anime, especially when the wiki displays both information side by side.

The article for Major General Hakuro already states that he was stationed at New Optain in the 2009 anime, so I don't see why you would reference the 2003 anime.
>>
>>25962390
>I don't understand why you would use information from the 2003 anime, especially when the wiki displays both information side by side
Because I didn't see him mentioned in the 2009 anime, as I was only skimming, and because while the universes are definitely seperate, there is a massive amount of continuity shared between them and maybe things that are in one anime are shared with the other, even though they aren't mentioned. For example, Scar's brother having known the secret to transmuting a philosopher's stone, or Mason having been present in '03 but not '09, even though he was in the manga which '09 is closer to.
>>
>>25960272
"I was about to say there was an update on the search for the mad alchemist, but since you know Mustang and Armstrong have returned to Central, you seem to be on top of things," the barkeep says, pushing forward the drinks. "Fullmetal's been called to consult on the matter, but I don't know if he's here yet."

>>25961649
"Other than the search for the mad alchemist... Oh! There was a fight between three unidentified combatants in the north part of the city just recently. They duked it out for a while, holding off any military forces sent to contain them, then scattered when the military finally brought in a tank." the barkeep pauses. "Come to think of it, there's been a lot of trouble started by strangers the last day or so. Repeated incidents, though nothing like that figh- wait, no. There were also reports of some flying man buzzing the city, but if you ask me, that's a load of spittle. Regardless, the military's gone to high ale- wait, why am I telling YOU this? You're part of it, after all."
>>
>>25962824

"Weird they wouldn't tell you yet, but if you're just back to the city maybe they haven't gotten around to it," the barkeep shrugs as Scott and the others drink. "For three weeks or so, there's been rumors of an alchemist roaming around at night kidnapping people. Only in the last week did evidence surface it was to conduct experiments on human transmutation. Even since then the military's been relentlessly searching for him. I pity the poor fool, they'll get him eventually, and I doubt they'll be lenient with all that's happened."
>>
>>25963263
"Human Transmutation? Whoo, that's definitely gonna be a heavy sentence. Heard any rumors about where he's conducting these experiments?"

>>
>>25963375
We can't question the barkeep too much, otherwise it'll clash with our military uniforms.

Or...we might be able to get more information if we act like we just got hit with inspiration.

Like, we know this alchemist (operative from the Race Organizers) has been kidnapping people for Human Transmutation experiments.
So what if we ask the barkeep for a map of Central and start putting the locations of the kidnappings on it? There may be a pattern, and we can say that we think the kidnappings might have something to do with a large-scale transmutation circle.
>>
>>25963445
"They scattered and the military hasn't been able to find them since. It's driving them bonkers, let me tell you. They wanted at least something to show for their efforts before Armstrong and Mustang showed up. >>
>>25963812
I recommend we leave the bar soon. Go to the scene of the explosions and investigate to see where the alchemists went. When we leave tell FFP to keep an ear/timpanic membrane on the radio for any news about the alchemists or further explosions.
>>
>>25963812
"Right, thanks for the info, though. Hey, got a map of Central? I'm probably wrong here, and the brass have probably already thought of this, but I'd like to try putting those kidnappings on a map and see if there's a pattern."
>>
>>25964013
>>25963487

The barkeep fishes out a map and hands it over for the money.

"Pleasure doing business with you. Anything else? One for the road, maybe?"
>>
>>25964232

He did not.
>>
>>25964304
Alright, how about one last drink for the road, if he'll mark down the kidnapping locations.
>>
>>25964359
"I'd love to, but I don't know myself. They kept tight control over most of the details. All I know is that the first four kidnappings occurred around each compass point of the city."

Is that literal, or figurative?
>>
>>25964523
"First four, huh. How many in all was it again?"
Thank the barkeep, mark the map, and go out and start heading towards the northern section of the city.

If they were done at the compass points, the kidnappings might have been done to also complete an Alchemic Circle around the city.
>>
And it looks like all our leads point directly at the center of town.
>>
>>25964626
Again, Central Command.
Though we might be able to get through with our military uniform illusion.
Maybe we should take advantage of the fact that we're already in uniform, and find a quartermaster to get another set of actual uniforms from, to use as a disguise if this takes longer than a day?
>>

>>25964600

3

Divination
1
Oglaf World, finding FFP and a safe path through the castle, after the fight with the guards that had captured Elyse

2
AvP World, finding the portal, while in the Police Station Armoury
Dispel Magic
1
Oglaf World, removing curse from Sam, outside the city of virgins

2
Oglaf World, removing curse from Charlie, inside the Sorceress' Castle

Defense
1
Oglaf World, Sphere of Invulnerability works but is short-lived and alerts the enemy to our presence

2
AvP World, Wall of Stone, Police Station

3
AvP World, Protection from Acid, Police Station

4
AvP World, barrier field, sewers to test the sentry guns' IFF

Actually, that's what I would do if I was a Gamester; it simply makes sense.
Why drop the Racers onto a world where the Portal isn't ready yet?
No, it has to be ready within a very short time, hours at the most, from when the Racers arrive, so that the Race can continue as soon as the Portal is found by a Racer.

I agree we need to find the Gamester's Alchemist as quickly as possible; we need to get to the Finish Line ahead of everyone else.
As for trying to save the kidnapped people, I think it's already too late.

My "Need to win" circuit is conflicting with my stronger "Save people" one. Looking back through the thread, you are probably correct. He likely has at least one stone. I regret leaving the bar now, because now we can't ask when the last kidnapping was. Can we agree that when we get back to the guard that we need to come and kill these race masters?

And I just realized something. None of the portals that they've used have been something they made, but something they commandeered for the race. The Alchemist isn't theirs, he's doing this on his own. And of course, like an idiot, I forgot that the gateway of truth is unique for each individual, and that means that only his gate could be the portal. [spoilers]FUCK[/spoilers]

Let's find him first, and maybe leave a bomb to kill him when he leaves the gate of truth.
